I am utterly speechless and that's hard to get that over on me! AAA used them to come to me because we accidentally locked our keys in the car yesterday while we were at 7-11. They are based in Milpitas which is quite a ways from where we were at; however, the driver they dispatched was only 15 minutes away from us. We could watch him driving to us through the AAA app. The technician that cane to my aide was VERY polite and had me inside my car in under 2 minutes. Now not only do I know who I will request AAA to dispatch no matter how long I have to wait I also have a towing company that I know will give me great service. I have no clue about their prices. But in all honesty... Service and a woman alone with her children and a man coming to assist them that made them feel comfortable is worth any price they charge.
Thank you Pro Star for your excellent service yesterday and you now have a new customer for as long as you're in business!!!!!

Been towed at least 4 times by Prostar in various vehicles. Their towing service is fair, professional, fast, and covered by AAA.
The repair shop is proficient and they do everything by the book. That means higher prices than many and only OEM parts which are also more to buy.
It's a fair and reasonable repair shop. Not the cheapest but reasonable all things considered.

Preface: I don't enjoy giving bad reviews. This review is solely explaining in detail MY FACTUAL EXPERIENCE along with my opinions. The people I interacted with here (Chris, Dean, and Rene) are nice people, I just had a terrible experience. Also due to the fact that I had a dying car. Both combined to make a raging headache.
**I was reading through some older reviews and saw that the management team will sometimes respond with why didn't the customer call to directly speak to them and/or they will make sure that AAA never tows the customer back to their company again. I am not here to fight or argue - I simply want to share my own experience.
9/21: brought car in for failed smog due to parts covered under warranty from the time I had to bring it in last year for a $2500 service.
9/23: Told more service needs to be done to it, agreed to half of the recommendations and was told it will be finished sometime next week.
9/29: Car is "up in the air" right now, meaning it is up in the car lift.
**9/30: Got a call at the beginning of the morning stating that my car was taken to the dealership to get to the bottom why it continues to fail smog. Got a call DIRECTLY from the dealership at the end of the day inquiring why my car was there, because it was sitting in lot all day without any work order/tags, no work was being done to it, UNLOCKED WITH THE KEYS IN IT. Completely unacceptable. I called this shop and they seemed shocked to hear that the dealership called me directly to tell me what was going on. Thank God they did, otherwise I am sure this fact would have been covered up.
10/1: Car is ready for pickup.
Later that day 10/1: Nevermind, car is not ready for pickup.
10/2: Got another direct call from the dealership to clarify that they CANNOT service anything SMOG related because they are not certified in that area (This is South Bay Honda), told me that I would have to bring my car to either Stevens Creek or Fremont Honda. Called Pro-Star and told Chris, since Dean was out of town.
10/6: They offered to help sell my car since I told them I was planning to sell it anyway. Service manager was able to get someone interested.
10/7: That person apparently flaked because my car is listed as 2002 but it is really 2000. So he says... BUT no, it's 2001. There is absolutely NO WAY it is 2000, since 2000 Honda Civics have the old school body and 2001 was the first year they did a complete remodel on their civic styles... which is the one I have. So I have no idea what he was talking about, offered me $200 less. At this point, IDGAF (I don't give a f*ck) and I just want to stop dealing with this place.
10/8: Around 4pm, Dean states the person buying my car will be there with the money any minute. I say I will just come tomorrow morning around 9AM.
10/9: 9AM I show up to hand over the title, Dean states the guy will be there with the money in about an hour. Well what can I do? I say, "FYI Dean, this car is a 2001, NOT 2000." He says, "I know, it was listed as 2002 and the guy said 2000." Ooooookay.
10/9: 11am: FREEDOM. Got my $$$ and I'm out forever!

This review is totally for Jay! The #12 Driver. I had an engine issue and my car literally stopped in the middle of the road so I have to call for a towing. This is the first time I am with a tow truck and I would like to thank Jay for saving my day! Jay came fast and he is very professional and proficient. He took care of everything including helping me set up while drop my car to the dealer. Jay is that kind of person who is not only following his job description but also cares about what would be the best way to deliver his work. I only wrote a couple of reviews on yelp so far since 2014 and I really wanted to show my appreciation this time. Thank you!

My 2005 Toyota Prius conked out with an inverter issue.
Moments after tow driver (Tony) pulled up and I had briefly told him about the problem and codes, and also confirmed there was adequate gas in the tank...and nevertheless he VERY rudely stated (with condescension and skepticism in his voice), "I'm going to laugh at you if it's out of gas", ordered me to put the key in the car and walked away.
Clearly he thinks very little of Prius drivers, despite my knowledge and that I've rebuilt several cars and do regular service on them too!
Since towing is a need (like groceries and gas), I understand that writing this bad review doesn't reallydo anything...but the company needs to know about instilling a little tact, friendliness and courtesy into this gruff dude.
Peace!

Just had a mobile battery replacement completed. Adrian (I believe) was the tech who responded to my AAA call. He arrived promptly and was very pleasant. He politely gave me the option of just the jumpstart or I could have my battery replaced on the spot. I knew the cost of the battery at Costco, O'Reilly and Autozone. Pro-Star's price was cheaper than both O'Reilly and Autozone and I didn't have to risk driving to any other location and have my car not start again. Adrian completed the battery swap in about 5 min and I was on my way.
I can't comment on Pro-Star Towing, but their battery service is professional.

Robbie with pro star toe dropped a broken down car in front of my house. It's not my car or anyone who lives on my street. I don't know why he did this or who told him to and when I asked why he said it's a public Street that was the only place he could put it. I don't know how that makes and sense but he was very rude, dropped a car with a broken axle and leaking fluid everywhere and left

Brian was very helpful responding to my call about a dead battery.
Pro-Star installed this battery well over 6 years ago. At that time, the installation was expedient. I was soon on my way.
Assuming the battery had reached its end of life, I called Pro Star. The battery is actually fine. Brian spent some time attempting to diagnosis the problem, examining fuses a few basic connections, etc.
Ultimately, he was unable to get the car running. That required some time in the shop with a mechanic. However, he did not charge me for his time.
I appreciate the effort.

I ask him to leave my property since he can't help me. He throws a fit and banters back to his truck where calls the police, then they show up. For what? Got there today at 830. Front desk, I think Chris, got us out fairly quickly.
Rene showed us the difference between the parts. Test drove the car and it was running like normal again. No metal on metal action like yesterday care of Vung Tau "complete auto care". Ugh~ BEST PART: I was able to speak with manager, customer service was beyond expected from busy office, their credentials were visible when you walk in and they gave me my receipt without me having to ask for it.
Thanks for the great start to my day! See you next time!

I had my car towed to Pro-Star Towing in Milpitas as it overheated. After having Pro-Star Automotive service the vehicle (New Radiator, Two New Hoses, New Battery) the car still overheated and the Manager stated I must have a blow head gasket and wanted $5,000.00 for a used engine. I promptly drove the car to Wheel Works in Milpitas for a second opinion. The Manager, (Peter - Wheel Works), ran a compression check on the engine and the engine/head gasket had no leaks and was just fine. He then informed me, Prostar Automotive installed the WRONG type of radiator, so they (Wheel Works) promptly removed it and replaced it for free. Then Peter (Wheel Works) showed me the hose Prostar Automotive replaced was TOO LONG and rubbing on the alternator belt. The Prostar Mechanic had just zip tied the hoses and shoved them in, hoping nobody would notice. I am very disappointed I had to take my car to another mechanic, just to get it fixed correctly. I complained to the Manager at Prostar Automotive, and he was not interested and declined even a discount (Even though they installed the wrong radiator, hose was too short and rubbing, and diagnosed my vehicle with a blown head gasket (asking for $5,000.00 for an used engine). Prostar never did any check on the engine before starting to replace parts. In the end, I had the water pump replaced as well and the brakes done at Wheel Works. I have nothing but good things to say for WHEEL WORKS - MILPITAS. I am absolutely disappointed in Prostar Automotive. Total crooks. Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs. If you want more specifics, my email is (

IF YOU WANT YOUR VEHICLE DAMAGED CALL PRO-STAR TOWING in CAMPBELL. AAA dispatched them to tow my car. They unloaded the car too close to the curb and damaged my entire right front wheel. I'm not talking about a small nick but the entire wheel. Driver is a complete liar denying any responsibility and the company stands behind that. I even tipped him upon pickup of my car so that he would take care of it, or at the very least do his job and transport it without damaging it. After this happened I learned that other people I know have also had terrible experiences with PRO STAR TOWING. If you want your vehicle damaged and claim denied go to PRO STAR TOWING in CAMPBELL.

On Saturday July 25th in Fremont near Ardenwood Park, I need assistance due to my car not starting. I called AAA and they sent out a battery maintenance tech Bob, he informed me that my battery needed to be replace and that my battery was leaking acid. He checked his truck to see if he had my battery size and he did not. He called to see if someone had my size battery and David had my battery size. He came within 10 mins and delivered my battery. These two guys were absolutely amazing, quick to get my battery taken care of so I was able to attend a work function I was going to. I had such a great experience with Battery Tech guys, very helpful and ensured I was taken care of.
I called on Tuesday to request one of these techs to call me back as I had question regarding my battery that was dead. The staff at prostar towing said they would have them call me back. I received a call back from prostar towing to inform me that the techs were not there today. I requested that when one of them was in if they could please call me back. I was told that I would have to keep calling until one of them was in. I feel as a customer I should not have to call back until the tech is at work. I feel my message should of been relayed to one of the techs to call me back when they are on schedule.

My car broke down on freeway (flat tire) and AAA guy suggested to take it to prostar sice tire was jammed and not coming out... These guys told me over the phone we will replace flat with spare I already have at no cost. . But if something brakes , they will have to replace bolts and rim.. I was ok with that.. Fortunately from my side, they were able to just take out flat tire and replace with spare one I already had... And just to do that , they charged $48.. As half hour labor charge.. When I showed concern bat that, guy gave me like $15 discount.. Seriously."???? First over the phone, told me as free and then 33.. I didn't want free but just to replace one tire is not worth of 48$$....
I had no choice.. Afterwards Calderon tire service charged only 10$ for repair and 5$ to replace,,......
Prostar sucks. ... Big time.. Don't go thr at all....

Got a flat in my driveway on Friday, May 1 and I don't have a spare, so AAA dispatched a Pro Star truck to help me. They showed up within 15 minutes and quickly put my car on the lift, then towed me to the local tire shop for a repair. The driver's name was Victor, and he was awesome: super friendly, helpful, courteous, and we had a nice chat on the drive to the tire shop about that weekend's Pacquiao/Mayweather fight. :) I was very pleased with the service, so wanted to leave a good review as well as a shout out to Victor for the good service.

Love the Service I got from Joshua.
Yesterday, I went to start my car and it wouldn't start. I thought it was the starter and was going to call AAA to get my car towed to the mechanic. Kind of put it off because I just didn't want to deal with it..........
Today, I walked out of my house today and my neighbor was getting a jump start by Joshua. I noticed the AAA signage and asked Joshua if he could check out my car. He did! It was actually the battery that needed to be replaced. AND - He had my exact battery model in his car. He helped me initiate the call to AAA and took care of everything! He was so nice and such a sweetheart!!!!
I'm so happy with the service I got!
Thanks!

One word: STELLAR!!! These guys are ON TOP OF IT!!!
My perfect 7 year record of commuting 237 Westbound this morning, was stripped from me.....(my clean driving record of well over a decade is now tainted).
I called Pro-Star towing, got Chris Bernal on the line. I explained the scenario and my location. He took all of my info and immediately jumped into action to take care of me and my precarious situation. Since the accident occurred in PRIME MORNING COMMUTE, it was essential to move the cars to safer location. We were in the commuter / Fast Trak lane, near Zanker Road. Since no one was hurt and both cars drivable, we got off at the exit and got to safe area.
I was on the phone with my insurance carrier, and the Pro Star towing truck FOUND ME - I didn't tell them I had moved the car!!! The tow driver, Van, was just awesome - prepared to rescue the quintessential "damsel in distress"... the radiator was leaking pretty bad. He towed me all the way to PLEASANTON, to Diablo Auto Body, supported by my insurance carrier. AND, they also made certain that I was taken care of with a rental car as well.
These gentlemen at Pro-Star are just incredible and expedited my situation - I never lifted a finger (oh, except to call them....). A good number to keep handy, if you are ever in a "tight spot". Thanks again & kudos to Chris & Van, for helping me today! A very happy customer, indeed!

I was in an accident (hit and run) on a Friday night at 6:30pm and I requested the CHP call AAA because I am a member and have roadside assistance with them. Pro-Star Towing showed up 45 min later to tow my car to their storage yard until I could coordinate my body shop to pick up my car on Monday.
I was not told I would need to sign a release to my body shop until Monday morning when my body shop called to inform me of this with a warning of caution that they woman answering the phone at Pro-Star Towing was "cranky this morning".
First off, WOW... what an impression Pro-Star Towing... your customer service representative should NEVER be describe in this way. You are a business, and one that represents one of the largest federation of motor clubs throughout North America.
When I called Pro-Star Towing to find out what I needed to do to get my car to the body shop to be fixed I was greeted with the same attitude as described above. I was then told I had to drive to Pro-Star Towing (40 min away from my home and job) and sign this release form in person. I was not given the option of fax until I pushed the issue that I was at work and the inconvenience of driving to Fremont (40 min away from my home and job) to sign a form was ridiculous.
I then spent the rest of my morning attempting to fax back the release form to no avail. When I would call to ask if my fax was received or find out if a scanned email would be possible I was then greeted with heavy sighs and absolutely no help.
In the end I had to leave work and drive (40 min out of my way) to Pro-Star Towing to turn in this release form. After turing in the form I contacted my body shop immediately to pick up my car so I no longer had to deal with Pro-Star Towing.
When entering the Pro-Star Towing office it was apparent that other means could have been used to avoid me from having to drive 40 min out of my way to turn in a release form.
After being in a car accident (especially a hit and run) I was beyond stressed and frustrated and being treated this way by Pro-Star Towing is inexcusable.
Due to my experience with Pro-Star Towing I will be canceling my AAA services and will be notifying them of the reason why (Pro-Star Towing unprofessionalism and blatant rudeness).

A service manager, David, has contacted me through Yelp. He took the time to look up my very old record. He also offered 2 free oil changes. He offered an explanation of my charges, which is good, but I still believe what my mechanic (who is a family friend) told me.
1. I see what looks like a good effort to improve their customer satisfaction ratings.
2. I still stand by my experience as written.
3. I am giving an additional star for the time and effort they put into looking into my complaint even though the incident was very long ago.

They don't even deserve one star or any star . Been waiting here for two hours. Our car got stuck on freeway and when we called they said 45 min now it has been over 2 hours and they still are not here. AAA uses them as a partner and this will be the last time we renew services with AAA. Called 5 times with 5 different responses. They do not communicate with each other and I am writing this review stranded on the freeway. The worst service I've seen in a long time.
Be aware of this company!

I WISH I had read some reviews before I wen to Pro star Auto repair STAY AWAY!!...My car broke down and they came to tow my car through triple AAA. The tow truck guy said he was also a mechanic and told me that my starter was bad. Which was weird because I had just got a new starter put in not even a year earlier but I said well sometimes that can happen and I believed him against my better judgement. He tried a few so called tricks to see if he could get it to turn over but it didn't work.
He pulled out this coupon and said I should try this mechanic (WHICH IS PRO STAR AUTO REPAIR) Being that I needed my car ASAP and that I believed the tow truck driver I had my car towed to the shop to get fixed. I said I THINK it's my starter...They told me one price to replace it and I was like cool fix it. They told me my car would be ready the next day. I get a call at work and I was told that my battery cables were bad and that would be another $300!!! I'm like wth?!
AN HONEST repair shop would have checked to see if in deed my starter was bad before fixing it...not fix it then find out all it was was my cable connecting to my battery from my starter was indeed the culprit. I was so pissed I told the guy to screw that just leave it like it was and I would come back and get it towed to my house or somewhere else! Then he said well I will just try and fix the connection and just charge you $100 fir labor and like $20 for the part. I said fine fix it.
THESE GUYS ARE SHADY DON'T GO!! You are better off going to Pep Boys and you get a limited lifetime warranty there!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP...!!!

I wish negative stars were an option. AAA dispatched Pro Star to me, because my car would not start. They sent me a service tech, thinking it was battery. I placed my call (on Saturday) at 11am, Brian arrived at 1:15pm. After 5mins with my car, he determined it was the Alternator that needed replacement. He told me we needed a tow truck to tow us to a mechanic shop. Brian told me the estimated wait would be 1.5- 2hrs. before the tow truck would arrive. I made it clear to Brian that I had an appointment and could not stay for the Tow truck, but my boyfriend would be there. Brian had me sign a ticket and told my boyfriend not to lose it because my signature is the authorization that the Tow Truck would need, so that my boyfriend could be present on my behalf. My boyfriend waited and waited and by the time I got home from my appointment at 4:55pm, the Tow truck had still not come! (The auto shop closes at 5pm!) I called AAA and they called Pro Star, who still had their tow truck 40mins away from me! I asked to reschedule because my auto shop closed in less than 5mins. I called back AAA this morning (Monday) from work, because my auto shop was closed on Sunday, and they spoke to Pro Star who refused to send a tow out to my home unless I was present. I told them Brian gave me the ticket to sign authorizing my boyfriend to be present on my behalf, and Pro Star said Brian was not in today and did not note anything on their end stating this. I work across the bridge, it takes me an hour and half drive to get back home (But my car is broken!) So, even longer on Bart and bus! I needed my car repaired TODAY! I am SO UNHAPPY with this company and their lack of customer service. They are incredibly inconvenient! I filed a complaint through my AAA and ask that Pro Star Towing be removed as a service company through AAA.
UPDATE:
(Tuesday) I called AAA to have a tow truck come out as my car was still sitting in the driveway and needed to be repaired. I placed my call at 5pm, and was upset to find that they had to dispatch Pro Star as they were the company used in my 'territory'. The AAA dispatcher said the driver's ETA was 6:13pm, I said that was fine, but please make sure they come this time!
I called AAA back at 6:15pm informing them I need to run to the store to get my son more tylenol as well as some veggies to add to the soup i was making and can't wait around all day.
AAA agent (Regina) "They want to know if you're home"
Me: "Are you serious? Why is that even a question? I have been here since I placed the call!"
AAA Regina- "OK, they estimated 6:40pm"
(By now I asked to be transferred to a Supervisor, Jessica) I filed another complaint with Jessica and during our conversation Jessica noticed it was 6:42pm, and asked if they had arrived yet. I replied, No. She called their office and the office said the driver was dropping someone off and would be there soon.
David finally showed up and got the job done, but this was the worst experience I've ever had with AAA.
-Reading all the other negative reviews, I see the owner likes to reply to each one to justify their actions and claim it is not their fault. I'd like to see his reply to me.

Let me say, if I could give zero stars I would. These guys are not cool.
It sucks to break down and need a tow, but it will only get worse if you use these guys.
Had my car towed last week. The tow truck showed up, hooked up my car and then received a call and said that they needed to put my car back down and address this other call. What the...??? OK, so waiting for the next truck. When they finally came and hooked up my car they crushed the oil pan (should have been on a flatbed I was later told - as if I know jack about towing - isn't that these guys' job?). Basically turned a $200 problem into an $1100 problem! Called the tow company to work it out with them and they told me to take a hike. Wow, great customer service.
Since I went through AAA and got these guys, I'm now working with them to get this resolved. What a nightmare experience.

Prostar is okay, but I'll stick to my regular mechanic whenever possible.
I did some business with ProStar when my coolant hose was leaking and it didn't seem safe to drive, so I called AAA and they sent Jared (sp?). Jared was super nice and friendly. I should have asked him to take me to my usual mechanic in San Jose (not too far from where we were), but at the time, I just wanted to get to the nearest service center and get my car looked at ASAP.
They replaced my hose, added coolant, and changed out my oil at my request, but it came out pricier than what I've seen at other mechanic shops. They also said I had a small crack in my exhaust manifold, and to fix that would've been my rent money, so I asked a knowledgeable coworker to come with me to see it. The mechanic brought us to my car to show us the crack, but when we didn't see a crack, he said that he could hear it when gassing up the car and that it was in the back where it wouldn't have been visible. They even scared me a little by saying something about my car potentially exploding, but I was reassured by some third parties that the likelihood of that was slim, so after paying them for the work they already did, I opted to have my regular mechanic look at the manifold instead.
Once my regular mechanic and I popped open the hood, we saw that the Prostar guy was a little sloppy and still left some of the stickers and plastic on the hoses he replaced, so we took those stickers and plastic off. Mechanic said that if there was a crack, it was super tiny because he could barely hear any issues with it, but he agreed to take a look. The estimate he gave me for the exhaust manifold was $100 less than what Prostar quoted (including labor), but the other possibility he gave was that there might not be a crack but an issue with the manifold bolts, and if that was the case, the parts to fix that would be pretty cheap but labor would cost more. End of the day, it was an issue with the bolts, and the total cost to fix it came out to $200 less than what ProStar was going to do.
I would've given just 1 star to ProStar for the misdiagnosis, sloppy work, and prices, but I like Jared the towing guy a lot, so I'm giving another star just for Jared.

How ironic that this company is called Pro-Star. They are anything but professional. I locked my keys in my car and it took 3 hours to get someone out to slim-jim my car (through AAA)!! I was stranded in a parking lot at 10pm. I called back several times to check in on the status after the initial 30 minute quoted arrival time flew by. Pro-Star lied about being in transit while they took other jobs. Why else would it take THREE HOURS to get to me!! Listen, if you can't get the job done, don't take it. Don't promise that you'll be there in 30 minutes and then lie about being "5 miles away" when you're not. . Professional?......I don't think so.

My better half called AAA to have his1951 Hudson towed to his repair shop. He waited for a flatbed truck and it was towed to his mechanic. In the process, one side of the tow cable was hooked to a suspension rod instead of the axle and the rod was bent. He was able to obtain the replacement part following an internet search and his Hudson mechanic made the repair. After several discussions with Scott, he submitted the repair invoice and photos of the damage and his repair cost was reimbursed promptly.

First impressions are not always as they seem. I had an expeditious but more costly than estimated repair. I initially was getting my car towed from my house to my regular mechanic at Sunnyvale Ford. The tow truck driver suggested saving some money by having them repair my car. Happy with how quickly the diagnosed and replaced a failing fuel pump. So i decided to use them to diagnose my truck stalling. They changed out a sensor, finding everything else wrong with my truck and over a grand later... i went back with the same stalling issue after a week or so. Well another sensor replaced, $400 and 2 weeks later back to square one. You get the idea. Sloppy work... they busted out an AC vent and hot glued a broken a snapped in half kick panel and said the car came in that way. AAA warrantied work will give them the opportunity to keep recommending other repairs.

So annoyed by this place! First of all every time I call this place the front desk girl has no idea how to answer my questions. Before I even get to say what I'm calling for she is putting me on hold. She leaves me on hold then picks up again and puts me on hold again. Then has a mechanic talk to me. Why is she working front desk if she can't ask a simple question like is my car ready for pick up? She knows nothing and they need to hire someone who is more educated about cars or at least more organized and has papers on file at her desk so she knows which cars people are calling in for. Also, if she is putting the mechanic on the phone every time someone calls then obviously he isn't doing his job and too busy doing hers. Not only that the guy told me they would try to finish my car on a Friday and if they didn't have the part they would keep the car until Monday and give me a call to let me know. I waited all day Friday and no call so I just assumed by Saturday they were keeping my car over the weekend. Today, I finally received a call saying my car was ready for pick up but wasn't able to pick up the phone since I was at work. I called back and the girl put me on hold again. The mechanic got on the phone after a few minutes and I asked him if I could pick the car up later today since I was at work. He mumbled something and I asked what time they closed and his response was 'I ALREADY SAID 5!' Wtf. Nice attitude. My bad I can't understand mumble. I won't be bringing my car back to them.

I have used ProStar as my repair shop for many years. They have always been more than reasonable with my repairs and the charges. With an appointment, the work is often done while I wait. My most recent experience was I had a part fail again after repair. They immediately sent a tow truck to my residence in Gilroy, made the repair under warranty, and delivered the vehicle back to me. I could not ask for better service. Thank you!

I had a battery replaced by their service representative through AAA. Helpful and quick. He didn't pressure me for extra services. Charged me for a new battery, later I found that they lowered their prices. Called their battery manager, Doug, and he promptly refunded me the difference!

My car started to have problems in the hills, and I managed to drive to a spot where I could call for a tow. Even though it was early Sunday morning, I had a tow truck by my car in less than 30 minutes.
Nick trusted my description that the issue was probably the alternator, and gently and carefully put my car on the flatbed even though we were only going to drive a few minutes. He was very polite, very quick in filling the paperwork, and explained what I could expect.
The next morning, at 8am sharp, I had a phone call to confirm the details, and 30 minutes later I had a diagnostic and a reasonable estimate. I also asked them to change the oil. They never tried to upsell me anything.
At 2pm the car was ready, and I picked it up an hour later. I paid exactly the quote that I had had over the phone. Again, the staff there was very polite, and I had no problem. The fact that I was not a regular customer, that they had never worked on my car and that I had a club discount didn't create any difficulty.
It's not fun to have a car break down away from home, but with Pro-Star I had my car back on the road much faster than I could have expected.

My car needed towing today, but Pro Star Towing was great.
I called AAA, who informed me my tow truck would there within 45 minutes. I expected to wait a bit....but there were there in about 5 mins! Wow, I have never waited less than a half hour before.
My car was in a retail parking lot but the tow driver (didnt get his name :/ ) quickly manuevered my car into a better towing position, and got it hooked up. I appreciated that he double checked that I had my purse and my things out of the car first. :) My car was on its way to the mechanic in about ten minutes.
Pro Star = fast and efficient!
They had to call me back for an address because they couldn't find the mechanic at first, but I dont know if that was Pro Star's bad, or AAA's bad. Not a big deal.

4 HOUR WAIT FOR A TOW!!!!
DO NOT use this copmany if you have a choice. I had to use them according to my AAA Emergency roadside assistance program as supposedly they were the only sub contracted company serving the area I was in (Fremont, CA). I am skeptical that AAA didn't have another sub that could get there earlier than 4 hours!
The first driver from this company that came in 1.5 hours was very rude and simple said leave the keys in the car and i'll be back in an hour. 1 hour goes by and i call AAA. They said it would be another 1 hour! I stayed on the phone with AAA trying to figure out if this was a Prostar Issue or AAA issue. I believe it is both but I also believe Prostar is equally involved because of how they dispatch their own drivers.
I believe they did not want to tow my truck 30 miles away because there were many other closer jobs that could be done quicker and for more money than they are contracted with AAA.
Please don't use this company if you have a choice!!

So, i called AAA and they directed me to Prostar. I made sure to tell the customer service rep that my car had been modified, specifically extremely lowered, about 1.5" from stock miata height. The AAA rep said, "Ok we'll make sure to send a flat bed to help you out. I was relieved because I had been worried that they might not tow the car.
30-40 minutes later, the tow truck guy tells me he can't tow my car!! It's apparently against the policy of Prostar as well as AAA. What a waste of time. The only reason I purchased a AAA membership was because of towing coverage, and my older car.
After insisting that we could get the car onto the flat bed regardless if the car is damaged (hello i'm an hour away from home, i just want the car home.). finally he pulled the, i'll lose my job if i help you. So basically, they just wasted my time.
My advice to the company's. Please don't make assumptions and waste time. Ask questions to make sure you'll be able to do what you came to do. I'm not going to question whether you're able to do the job or not, so don't expect me to ask you anything.
--
Anyways..
The driver I was dealing with had great tone and communicated what was going on. He even called some "experienced drivers" to see if he could get the go ahead. He did refer me to a great commercial tow company, that did everything i asked.. I will review them later.
1 star for politeness. 1 star for checking with base. 1 star for referral. loss of 2 stars for making assumptions, and poor communication with AAA...

They picked me up at Great Mall after an hour and get to go home with my car in tow.

Do not trust this company. They hire shady people on their staff. Their president Ted Dixon informed me that one of their technicians, Rene Buenaventura forged a receipt using their official PO system and that was the receipt that was provided me. So Ted Dixon knowing this crucial information about the criminal activities of one of his employees chose to do nothing about the situation and kept Rene Buenaventura employed at their facility. As a matter of fact, when I brought Rene's actions to Ted, he accused me of just looking for "deep pockets to sue". He acknowledged the forgery of the receipt of his employee, Rene Buenaventura, but he did not do anything about this and kept this person employed at their facility. If you ask me, shady people hire shady people.
----------------------------------------------------
Doug, your explanation does not make any sense at all. The BAR did an investigation and then what? However you handled the situation with Rene Buenaventura is irrelevant. The bottom line is that he is still part of your company knowing that this person is a known scammer and have used your facility and equipment to facilitate his immoral behavior.
You also did not address the poor attitude of your president, Ted Dixon. I guess it comes to no surprise that ProStar would hire people with poor character when the president himself has a poor attitude. Ted Dixon made a baseless accusation saying that I was merely seeking 'a deep pocket' without fully understanding the situation.
Also, it is quite apparent from your responses here on Yelp to myself and to others that ProStar is hardly ever at fault. You guys seem to have excuses for everything which is also a good reason for people to be aware on how you do business.

These guys are our approved towing company for our business with 40+ vehicles. I wish I could review the actual service that they could have provided, but every number that was found on the internet was not working, even the emergency number. I called AAA because they are listed on their website and told them our situation. AAA had the same problem we did - could not find a number that would go through. I even went onto Facebook to find alternative numbers with the same outcome. Sad that because of this problem that they are more than likely going to lose our business.

I called AAA towing and they were at my home in 10 minutes. I was going to go to my local Honda dealer but Pro Star towing said that they are AAA approved and I will get a 10% discount. I was hesitate because they were not the dealer and thought they wouldn't have my part. I had a faulty intake valve so my car would start and then die. I was right they didn't have my part since I had my car towed in the afternoon. After all was said and done. The next day they picked me up to get my car and all was taken care of. I saved $$ for not going to the dealer. Mike explained everything to me and even gave me the part to show me what had happened. I would use them again!

These are the nicest group of guys I have ever met!
I have the awful habit of *ahem* forgetting my keys in the ignition or on my seat and then locking them in the car. These guys are near my work so they have come out a few times to get my keys out of my car. Once it happened twice in a 2 month span and when the driver pulled up, it was the same one from the previous call. He recognized me and just laughed as he pulled up.
I have also had my car serviced here for the last 4 years and have never had a problem with them. The cost is fair, the work is quick and professional and the service is friendly.

This is for the Fremont location: They would have gotten 5 starts for towing. The guy who came out to do my battery and two were awesome and very friendly. Andy the mechanic, not so much. my car stopped working due to my a/c compressor. Mark (manager) gave me three options: the least expensive and time consuming option was removing the a/c compressor and installing a pulley bypass system. Of course i was told this could always be removed to install a new a/c compressor when i was ready. that was February 22, 2011. Today is April 26, 2011. I took my car to Pep Boys for an oil change and they informed me the belt used for the pulley bypass was fraying, the guy even showed me. So i called Pro Star since my work was still under their 90 day/4000 mile warranty. Brought the car in and my boyfriend was infomed it would be $40 for a new belt. I had them call me and spoke with Andy the mechanic. I asked him why the new belt would not be covered and he told me it was because they did not install a belt. When i told him i was confused as to how they installed the pulley then, he said they used an old belt that was already there. I told him but the pulley system was new so where did they get the belt. he told me i wanted the cheapest band aid for my car and that's what i got. I told him no one informed me about using an old belt. His wonderful response: Well you are so cheap even if we had offered you would not have taken it anyways. We didn't fix your car, we put a band aid on it. Charming right? and apparently I was lucky to not be charged labor for installing the new belt. Reported them to AAA and better business bureau.
UNBELIEVEABLE
Update 5/3/2011:
I have been compensated for the new belt I had installed. After my review I was contacted by David Dixon, who set things right. It says alot about a company that is willing to go quite a long ways to right their wrongs. For customer service on that end I would say 5 stars all the way.

These guys are scam artists. One clue would be how much turnover (new employees) they get. They have two tricks: convince you that your battery wont take a jump, and if they try it, it COULD explode...then give you a price on their EXPENSIVE battery.
Another trick is: oh its not the battery, let me tow it to my shop, it wont cost ya anything. LIES LIES LIES.

Regarding the Auto Service:
I had hoped there was a separate listing for the Auto Service, but it looks as though towing and service are being lumped together. I've been taking my Grand Caravan to Pro-Star since 2001. One of the things I liked about the previous service manager, Mark, who has retired, is that he would guide me away from unneeded repairs. Example: at times my control cluster would go out and my speedometer would go to zero... usually if I smacked the dash it would pop back up. When I asked about repairing it he said, "well, we could spend $2000 trying to find what's going on, or you can just hit the dash when it happens". He also warned me last year that I should probably be looking to replace our van soon and not put too much money into it (which I appreciated since he is in the repair business rather than car sales).
Dean is their new service manager and I've had several occasions to go in since March and have had a good experience with him as well. The thing that most impresses me is that they do stand behind their service warranty. I had a new computer installed in March -- an $800 or $900 repair? In April the SES (service engine soon) light started coming on again and the van starting running very poorly.... I thought I needed a tune-up. Dean called and said that they diagnosed it and found it was actually a faulty computer -- and that since it was still under warranty, they would fix it for free -- even the labor portion! About a week or two later, unfortunately, it happened yet again! This time they went with a real Dodge part and had to send the van out to have it programmed... but they still didn't charge me. Not having the van while in the shop was never fun, but not getting charged for the repair made it much more bearable. Considering the part was faulty and not the labor, I appreciated that they still kept their promise and didn't charge me.
They also have wifi in the office and a nice little waiting area including a little fridge with bottles of water. Another nice thing that Dean did was to go ahead and get some loose rubber seals fixed... his window guy was there and so he didn't even charge me which went a long way in creating good will. These seals will keep the rain from pooling into the passenger compartment which is nice.
Usually I get my van back in a very timely fashion. The only time I didn't was when they had to send out the van elsewhere. I didn't know I wasn't getting it back on the expected day until I called at 4:45 and found out that the mechanics had already gone home -- it would have been nice to get a heads up call in advance so I could plan better. However it was an isolated instance. Now I usually check in to make sure they have received any parts they need and to get updates on when the car will be ready.
One suggestion -- and this goes to all auto repair places, not just Pro-Star.... it would be great if with any repair of $200 or more that the car would be washed! Or for small repairs at least the windows washed in and out. I know that car is fixed, but somehow when you spend hundreds of dollars it is nice to SEE a change!
Towing Service: We've used their towing service on many occasions given that the van has 160K miles on it. They've always been very helpful and polite.

I only gave these weasels a star cause i had to to get this thing posted. Fer real.
well the reviewer before me was right to use the word "crooks". I had pulled over to do some work - outside sales - and when i went to restart my car, it was a NO GO! So i called triple a and was towed to a pro star station. Now i gotta say, the TOW was fine! The tow guy was great, and because i had triple a, there was no charge... but what happened beyond that is super duper sleazy!
I had no choice but to let them fix my fuel pump - a $710 job that had to be done to get my car back on the road - but when i gave them the go ahead, they called me and told me that the brakes also needed to be repaired - METAL ON METAL they said and that i shouldnt drive the car out of there without having them fixed. Im blonde, im gregarious, and i may even come off a bit bubbleheaded at time, so maybe their estimation was that i wouldnt know any better. But I have a smart as a whip fiance who loves Gary Voss at Big-o so we decided we'd risk life and limb and drive the car back up north for a brake inspection there....
well, the guys at Big-O just called to let me know that the breaks are fine, and that i can come pick up my car. Someone is lying here, and its just gross that they would do this. Pro Star, you should be ASHAMED! But youre probably not...
I agree... STAY AWAY. SLEAZY tactics.

I am writing this review to document the exceptional service I received from Dave K. of Pro-star battery service [AAA].
He arrived exactly when I was told he would get to me, he was thorough with diagnosing my situation and showed me the technical test print out. He removed my 4 year old battery, replaced it with a new one, tested to make sure all everything was then working ok, and was so very professional and pleasant.
He told me I could expect to be contacted by the management office to get a rating of his service and the overall experience. It has now been close to a month ago, and they have not contacted me yet. I want the other Yelpers and the Pro-Star management to know how wonderful the battery replacement service was. It really could not have gone smoother.

When my car broke down, the person who towed my car was very helpful and even gave me a ride to a nearby house. Repairs were done within one day--simple fix and the price was reasonable (I'm assuming two hours of work went into it). I probably could have gotten it repaired at a cheaper place somewhere else, but for the convenience of having it towed, stored away securely and fixed in one day, Prostar wasn't bad at all.

I had a a great experience with this towing company. Here's what happened:
On my way to a pool party in San Jose, I decided to grab some coffee at the drive-thru Starbucks that's visible from the 880 freeway. As I placed my order, waiting in the line of cars, I decided to turn off my engine and grab something from my trunk (a Red Bull of all things.... yeah, waiting for Starbucks). Low and behold when I tried to turn on my engine, nothing happened. My car was completely dead. Since I couldn't turn on the engine, I didn't know of any other way to manually put my car in neutral, the shifter was locked in park. The poor suckers behind me, I had to tell four different cars behind me my car wasn't going anywhere and that they'd have to grab their orders inside. Calling AAA, the tow truck arrived within fifteen minutes. We were greeted by Dave L. After his introduction he wanted to make sure things were okay, offering us water or to sit in his air conditioned truck as we waited. Dave L. was awesome, who not only maneuvered his tow truck backwards into the drive-thru to pull my car out, but also showed me how to override the neutral lock system on my shifter (which was a no-brainer in hind sight). It turns out my battery simply died. He called another truck that carried spare batteries that arrived within minutes. I was up and ready to leave within thirty minutes.
Fast, friendly, efficient and honest. This is the best "breakdown" experience I've ever had (if that's possible)! =)

What happened that day is rather embarrassing, but it happens to the best of us. Do you know how the diesel nozzle in a gas station is much larger than the regular gas nozzle, such that one cannot put diesel in a regular gas engine? Well forget that 'safety feature' because I'm "clever" than that. That day, I managed to carefully fill up my best friend's car with diesel!! 20 seconds after I started the engine, the car was completely dead. How could have done this mistake? Well while pumping the gas, I was concentrated on something else, namely a job interview (which I ultimately got :)) Ok, now you've been warned about using diesel in your car.
Now back to Pro Star...Here's the drill: the towing truck driver is going to tell you it'll cost only 100$ to fix whatever broken in your car "Let's just tow it to our shop and it will be done in a few hours...that's an easy job...it will cost 100$ at the most" as they say... That, my friend, is what we call the "bait".
So they towed my car for 70$ that evening which is the fair rate. What isn't however is the next morning's repair bill. Another guy in the shop will tell you it now costs you 500$ to fix what was supposed to cost 100$ in the first place. Of course you can behave like a victim and pay 500$ OR you can call around various other car repair shop and ask about their rate.
That's exactly what I did and this other shop (another review coming soon) fixed the car for 200$ instead of 500$ at Pro Star, that is including towing from "Pro Star" to the new car shop.
So I've warned you: Steer away from Pro Star Towing!! AND diesel! :)

Have to agree with everyone here. Too bad I didn't have a chance to read the reviews before my car was towed to their place.
The tow truck driver persuaded me to have my car towed to Pro-star instead of my dealer. I declined the offer, but he kept repeating "why would you have it fixed by the dealer, when you can have it fixed at our place for half the price? We are AAA and ASE certified!"
I ended up almost paying $500 for replacing a simple $70 part. I'm sure my dealer would've charged less and provided me with a free loaner.

I have had to deal with ProStar for both towing and service and have nothing but good things to say. Their tow service was timely and efficient. They were able to fix a problem on my 94 Cherokee that 3 different dealers couldn't diagnose and they also fixed an awful noise the car was making by finding that the fan shroud was loose. Again, a local Jeep dealer couldn't seem to figure that one out. Will be using them again and have already recommended them to friends with equally good results.

Called AAA to request a towing service as my VW stalled on the road. The driver showed up on time and quickly proceeded with towing vehicle to my prefer service shop in Newark (Winn VW). He was very nice and helpful. I removed one star because he had removed the bottom part of the rack underneath the bumper on the passengers side to place the hook and chain to pull in the vehicle into the flatbed. Thus, he delivered the vehicle promptly but forgot to replace the part. I had to call AAA to get Pro Star number and called them to report the incident. At first, kept me on hold and switching the people that I was suppose to talk to. I had to called three times as my car was ready from repair and waiting for the removed part to be installed. A different driver showed up and place the item in place but fail to talk to my husband (he had been waiting for 2 hrs) and he just left. The part felt as the latch or hook holding it was broken (when removed) and the mechanic at the VW adhere it with glue to hold it together. Good service but always in a hurry and I guess the first driver should have write a note for him to remember to replace any parts when removed for towing any vehicles. Overall, I will use them again as they're the assigned towing truck with AAA and close to Fremont Area.

My Acura rsx which I bought for $16,000 even minus taxes was totaled. I only have liabilty insurance so I must scratch that car off for good. Prostar charged me $40.00 a day to keep it. That part of the bill came to $280.00 since I kept it for 7 days. That part is fair since I live over one hour and 45 minutes away, and could only pick it up when I had a day off. What isn't fair is the $280.00 dollar charge for towing my vehicle less than 10 miles. That is outrageous. Most of the car was still intact, so it shouldn't have been that hard to tow. On top of all this the guy at the front desk was rude, and ignored me when I made a comment about the bill. They also gave me dirty looks when I kept going from the back of their building to the front to transfer my stuff to my borrowed car. A total ripoff and rude to boot!
The guy who gave them a five star review was under AAA who ttook care of his bill. I don't know about thei promptness since i was in the hospital when my car was towed,,but theyu are rude, overpriced, and unprofessional. They took advantage of me because the C.H.P called in the towing, and I wasn't quoted a price. I don't know why AAA a quality, but still overpriced insurance deals with this company.

Very impressed with Pro Star towing!!!! I recently needed my car towed to a body shop, I told the driver that I was going to follow him to the body shop. Being new to Cali, I depend on my GPS...which was in my car being towed :( another car cut me off and then i got stuck in a red light so I lost the driver...I kept driving and realized that the driver had pulled over to wait for me...what awesome service :)

We have used the service couple of times to move a Scissor Lift and they did a great job on both occasions. The dispatch did an excellent job of coordinating the pickup and delivery at both ends and Van the driver is courteous and patient. The pricing is consistent and reasonable and I would use them again.

I'm not sure why these past two review were so bad, I had excellent service. I was helped by Juan and could not have been happier. AAA accidentally canceled the service call, Juan realized there weren't the usual cancellation details and met me anyway. He checked everything he could before towing me, and was very helpful and courteous the entire time. I couldn't recommend this company more highly.

Worst experience ever. This place is a rip off with no concern for customer service. My car broke down on my way to work and I called AAA to row my car. Pro-Star came to tow my car and I told the driver the location I wanted to tow my car. He talked me into towing my car to a Pro-Star service station stating that they are a AAA service station and that they would provide excellant service for a fair price. Hearing they are a AAA service station I agreed. I told the guy at the front desk that I did not want them to work on my car till I get an estimate. They call me back and told me that they checked the car and that the estimate to repair would be $475. I did not want to pay that much and I told them I did not want them to do any thing and I would tow my car to my original service station that I wanted to go. They made me pay $100 as a diagnostic charge even though I was not advised of any charge by the driver nor the guy at the front desk. I was asked to sign a misleading paper when I dropped by car which showed $0 as the estimate but made me initial a different spot that had a fine print stating original estimate of $100 but does not say it's for diagnosis. Once I told them that I did not want my car repaired they did not care for me anymore. I paid $100 and got my car towed to my regular service station and got my car fixed for $200. I called AAA and filed a complaint as I was ripped off using AAA's good name. I would not have changed my mind and went along with the driver recommendation if these guys did not mention AAA. I sent AAA a copy of the paper work from Pro-Star and the other service station to show them how deceiving Pro-Star is and AAA agreed with my assessment but were not able to convince Pro-Star to return my payment. Pro-Star is taking the stance that since they had my initials so they did are wrong in collecting $100 as diagnostic fees. AAA said that they would bring this up during Pro-Star's renewal coming up in June. I would never, ever use Pro-Star service.

Ted is the best. He helped me repair my Harley in the House of Thunder Harley Davidson parking lot when the mechanics made it worse and then said sorry we are closing and you should tow your bike home. Ted and one of his friends went and got a couple of tools and repaired my bike within 10 minutes!!!

My car broke down on Hwy 880. Scary and stressful. Jay arrived quickly and got me safely into the truck as the sun was setting. I was so relieved to be safe and off the highway before dark. After we dropped my car off at a garage, he dropped me off at the nearest BART station. Great customer service. Thank You, Jay.

I was really going threw a tough time after my car was taken away "robbed" by the police. To make a long story short, "THERE REALLY IS ANGELS IN THE OUT FEILD". Personal thanks to the manager, you helped restore faith and belief that there's still professional people out there that actually cares about other people's well being and happiness. THANKS DAVE!!

Jeep has a recall on alternators; ours just up and smoked and killed the battery. Needed a tow, at 9pm. Jay #12 was prompt, knowledgeable, skillful, courteous; and made it easier for us to make it through a long day. Thanks again.
