I never received service here, but I called and was told that their oil special online is no longer in effect.
I have a 2008 car with 106K miles and was told that if I bring in my own oil AND filter, the oil change would be $20. That would cost me around $60!
Lets just say, I will be choosing another place like QualityTU only wants to charge around $40-45.

Really nice, honest owner who takes his time, explains, and tries to determine the best-value solution. I came to this shop because another shop wanted to perform a $650 Front Brake + Rotor repair on my Volvo S60. No way - the rotors did not need replacement, just a resurface and new pads. MKO is a great place to take your car for service - will absolutely return for future needs!

Looking at these reviews, I see that no one has mentioned that this place is part of the Best Car Plan promotions, basically you can buy 8 oil changes for $59 on Groupon, LivingSocial or Google Offers. I thought this would be a good offer and wondered if there was a catch.
Well, my family members and I have bought those deals, and while we eventually got to do the oil changes, it was a pretty big hassle. They make you set an appointment a month in advance, and you have to leave your car there at inconvenient morning times, claiming it's because they're all booked. Who schedules an oil change a month in advance?! I guess this is to make it as inconvenient as possible to discourage you from using your deal, since you have to use all eight oil changes in a 2-year period. The times that I or my family members have been here, it's usually been empty so I wondered where all this "we are so booked that we can't see you until next month!" excuse comes from.
But yeah, I'd probably go here if I hadn't bought the deal on Groupon. I got the impression they don't treat customers from coupon sites very well, but all these other reviewers on here (who didn't use any coupons) seem to have an ok time with them.

Called asking for price for break fluid change and was quoted $90. Called back and asked about the Yelp Deal $60 for $99 and he says it would not work because the $90 price is a "special" I was not told this was a "special" price when I called previously... other places quoted me lower than that without it being a "special"... Seems pretty shady to me
Don't advertise Yelp Deals if you are not going to honor them... Glad I saved myself a trip going to this place

Never go to this place.
The guy who seems to own this place, is not only very rude, he has no idea about anything car related.
You obviously tend to expect a fair amount of shadinesses in the auto industry; but this place takes it to a new level.
The work I had done here failed only a week after it was done. When I took my car to another mechanic, (a real mechanic) he could instantly tell the reason for the problem was faulty parts and work done by the previous guy...(Tony).
I wish I had read the yelp reviews before trying this place out. Save your money / time and go somewhere else with your business.
The owner of this place over charges, cuts corners, and is a complete asshole. Anybody giving this place above 1 star is paid by him to do so. Read the real reviews here and never patronize this business. Trust me.

This is a response to the business owner.
First of all, please don't throw around the words "free" as if we somehow got this ABCCP deal free of charge because these are services rendered, which were bought and paid for by me and many other customers. Second, my wife and I never received any phone call or message at any time about the supposed "change in management and employee". In fact, we weren't even allowed to leave any kind of message to the owner so there is no way that the owner could call us to tell us anything. Third, the ABCCP representative confirmed to me that they're no longer doing business with this place and that's why its shop is not being listed on ABCCP website anymore.
Last but not least, I find it ironic that I wasn't able to contact the owner to schedule an oil change despite my best efforts to call into this place during business hours for day after day for more than a week. But as soon as I posted my review on a public forum, the business owner was up on here within a day or two trying to explain away the questionable business practices.

I've been ripped off by more mechanics then I'm comfortable admitting--seriously I had a guy try to get me to replace my odometer for a transmission issue, and have even had parts replaced without my approval. I did not trust mechanics. Went to MKO because I was in dire need of brake service and Yelp had a coupon, so I figured, "what the hell. Shit needs to get done anyways."
I am SO GLAD I found this place. Santiago knows how to take care of his clients! VERY transparent. Will outline all of your problems and give you recommendations on solutions. Does not force any services on you, and will even (literally) show you what and where the issues are. MKO was my dream mechanic becoming reality!
Great business practices and very trustworthy. Free wifi on-site to help the time pass, water and coffee, and no nonsense or BS.

The guy at the main desk is a hero. I'm here right now, waiting for my oil to get changed and I'm listening to another person's car problem. This lady's car's radiator was leaking though she had recently serviced her radiator a couple months earlier. The leak was so bad that it leaked to her breaks, which was where the main desk dude asked her to take it back to where she had it serviced. When she did, the lady scheduled her for an appointment for next week.
Now, the guy at the front desk immediately tells the lady that because the radiator is leaking to her brakes, it is a safety hazard and explains that she needs it serviced again as soon as possible. So when the lady calls back, he actually talks to the other shop's phone operator personally and strongly asserts the lady's safety at hand. The store then was able to move her appointment to Tuesday. Huzzah!
So I'm pretty impressed, though my own car has yet to be serviced. Just thought that this guy deserved five stars simply because of his customer service. He's pretty cool.

They seem honest and helpful. I had my laptop with me and he volunteered to provide me with the key to hop on wifi.
While doing the oil change, they noticed my tires were worn and recommended I get them changed. He proceeded to explain how to best keep the tires in good shape and recommended a couple of places that's reliable for tires. He also came back with the exact tire number/model I needed to make sure the tires fit.

On June 3 2011, I was driving home from a camping trip at Henry Coe SP with my teenage step-daughter and two of her friends. Heading up the 101 on our way to SF, my Mazda Protege began overheating. I pulled over in a commercial area of San Jose and looked for an auto shop. Didn't check yelp, didn't call AAA. Brilliant plan, eh? The time was about 12:30 pm.
I saw MKO Auto Service and pulled in. Santiago told me that the techs were on lunch, but they would check out the car as soon as they came back. I took the girls across the street for tacos. Within 40 minutes, Santiago called me back, told me my radiator seal was defective and needed to be replaced. When I went back to the shop, he showed me the defective seal on the cap. So ok, I need to have a new radiator installed and they can do it and be finished by 4:00 pm.
Sounds good but I had promised my daughter's friend that I'd get her to SF by 3:30 so she could head out to a soccer tournament in Santa Cruz. Now I'm scrambling, asking about Cal Trans, wondering how much it would cost to send her to SF in a cab when...Ony, the owner says he can drive us. Yes, the owner of this auto shop, who I've never met before, offered to drive me and my step-daughter's friend from San Jose to SF so she can make her soccer tourny!! Talk about above and beyond, what a kind act. I was floored and took him up on the offer.
Long story short - kid made it to the tournament (which they won - go Av!), the other girls waited at the auto shop watching a movie on an ipod, MKO replaced my radiator and flushed my cooling system for $380 (including tax). I was home in Richmond by 6:00 pm. I'm not so knowledgeable about car repairs but I'm told my friends that's a very reasonable price. If I lived in San Jose, MKO would definitely be my auto shop from now on. And I can't emphasize enough what a nice, mellow, thoughtful person the owner, Ony, is...no wonder the business is so awesome.

What more can I say I now have 2 mechanics that I can say I am 100% satisfied. First my car would not start so I called a cheap mobile mechanic only to find that my fuel pump went out in my yukon denali and I was quoted $750, now I have replaced this before for almost $900 7 years ago stranded in the middle of nowhere. I called ONY at MKO and was quoted $551 parts and labor immediately I was impressed. ONY offered to have car towed with one of his towing people it only costed me $50 not to bad. My car was done by 4:30 as promised and I was satisfied. ONY even gave me a 2 year warranty and a roadside assistance card that came in handy. A few hours after I left my car would not start again ugh, it was pouring rain and I had to walk home but ONY's card came through and I was able to have car towed home for FREE a few hours later. The next morning I was able to get car started and took it back to ONY and his mechanic cleaned my battery terminals of corrosion and tightened up my wires and this free as well. This was my problem and why car didn't start. ONY's office was clean and he made sure I was 100% satisfied when I left, I really felt that he cared about my business and that I was more than a customer. I got a quote on a tune up and fuel filter both were very good prices so I will most definitely be coming back in the next few weeks to get that done. ONY will now be servicing my vehicles and I strongly recommend MKO for your auto needs. I guarantee you will be happy, even if you pay a little more which I doubt you will the service alone is 100% worth it. Thanks ONY and will see you again soon.

The owner of this company told me he had to "do work" on my car because he filled my AC Freon up (it went empty from a leak). Since he couldn't find the leak he says the law requires him to empty out the freon so it doesn't go into atmosphere.
I asked him which law it was and he referred me to: state of california laws and regulations automotive repair dealers

When I was asking him about the law he got really defensive which is what got me to actually find the book. I've done a search for "Air conditioner" & "freon" and didn't find anything.
If I'm proven wrong I'm willing to change this rating, but he seems really shady. He actually seems really helpful but when I dug in and saw him getting defensive i think I found the real him.

Glad I found this place and Ony. Battery replacement - upfront with diagnostic charge, clear with his assessment, replaced the battery, and waived the diagnostic charge ... all within an hour.
Best part is his mechanic noticed my rear brakes squealing as he was driving the car up front. Took my tires off and quickly checked my brake pads. Showed me the size they were down to, and did not try to sell me new ones as there is a still a bit left on them.
The guys at MKO are very honest, and really know their stuff. I think I have found my regular auto mechanic !!

**NOTE** I haven't used MKO's service, but I want to say something about their integrity, honesty and service.
I was shopping for a used car that would have better gas mileage than the one I've been driving. I found one that I was interested in and needed a professional's opinion about the overall car. I looked on Yelp and found MKO having such high regard and thought I'd give them a try. I was ready to pay a small fee for their time and service to look at the used car I was interested in.
I called Ony & Santiago and asked for him to take a look at a car approximately 2 blocks away from his shop. He said, no problem. I asked how much he's going to charge and he said, "don't worry about it." WHOA! WHAT? no charge?" I almost dropped my phone.
He came to the used car lot on time, greeted me, took a test drive with me and told me his opinion and other things to look out for.
Long story short, I bought another car from another used car lot, however, I have never forgotten Santiago's good deed.
From now on, all of my cars are going to be serviced by Santiago. I just made my first appointment. There's no price for a good deed and from what I've read from here, he also does a good job in servicing cars. Thank you Ony & Santiago!

Between school and work I can barely find time for myself let alone leave my car overnight to be repaired and that's where this wonderful place came in. I was calling around for prices after being told that I needed to get new pads for my brakes and my water pump replaced. My sister recommended this place to me because she said that the owner is sincerely honest and does a great job. Man she wasn't lying. Not only did they show me exactly where the problems were in my car (they showed me the leak and they showed me how worn my brakes were). If my brakes didn't need to be replaced I'm certain that they would have told me so that just comes to show how honest these guys are. Anyways back to my car I dropped it off and left around 10:30 and they told me I could get it around 4. I was planning on going early hoping that it would be done early and sure enough it was. On my way to MKO I got a call from Ony telling me my car was ready to be picked up. Got my baby back early so that me even happier. While some other auto shops would take longer to fix my car because they need to order the parts but I was able to get my car back within 6 hours. I was completely blown away. Great service and very informative if I ever have car troubles I know who I'm calling. Thanks for the great work guys!

I was introduced to this place by a friend who has been with MKO for quite sometime and recommended based on quality of work and honesty. Anyhow, my first experience is what has kept me coming back. My "single mom" Honda Civic (RIP) was beat, Santiago offered to inspect it at no charge. He and the staff there were kind and extremely helpful. I have since purchased another vehicle and based on my experience with MKO have decided to use them for all my car maintenance. Santiago is a very pleasant person to work with and the rates are easy on the wallet. The mechanics have worked on my vehicle with the up most integrity and I would recommend MKO to all of my family and friends.

A great big thank you to Ony and his team! I've been dealing with a car issue for weeks, taking it to several shops only to be disappointed because no one could give me an answer. I took it into MKO automotive and within the hour they were able to diagonis the problem and fix it. They were quick, detailed and very reasonable. What I respect most was Ony's honesty! Came to these guys twice. Santiago and his team were very informative on the needed repairs for my golf.
1st time I had to get a upper radiator hose replaced cause the current one was cracked and leaking coolant. the job was also additionally an oil change. Santi recommended I also change the coolant and get a new expansion tank cap, he also discovered there was another leak in the central thermostat housing. he did a basic sweep and found out wheel bearings were loose. not good news but at least he told me potential future hazards for my car and showed general interest in assistance.
second job I got my car lowered by him. he gave me the appropiate ride height lowering, so it would look nice and deliver better ride handling. The job was decent, it took an entire day from morning dropoff, me doing to work and coming back right before they close, There was continuous updates back and forth by phone. attention to detail, nice. cost of the suspension job was $450 in labor
I would say santi and his crew is average to above average in labor costs, but I would go to them because they are attentive with their customers and honest. I value that, and im sure you the reader will consider honesty sometimes comes with a slightly higher price

After Yelping around, I called a couple of local auto shops for the price of oil change, and ALL of them stated the price wouldn't be less than $35 for my car. I thought that was kinda of a rip off, I was also hesitating until I found MKO and read several of positive reviews on this auto shop, I decided to call them to check the price of oil change to see if it'd be any different. The guy that I was speaking to told me it'd cost only $24.95 and I'd also receive a $5 Starbucks gift card, sweet!!!! So I made an appointment with them for the next day, but I ended up coming late because of school, so I had to schedule another appointment. The manager there was nice enough to offer to look at my car to see if the oil remained was enough for me to drive around for one more day, and the amount turned out to be really low. He then went inside and brought out an oil bottle to fill up, so I asked how much would that be, he shook his head and said "Don't worry about that!". =D
And yes, I finally got my car's oil changed yesterday, and as promised I got the Starbucks gift card. It took about half an hour for the work to be done, but they got wi-fi and fortunately my laptop was with me so I had something to help me kill time at least! Thank you, I'd recommend this place to everyone!!

Did a little research on Friday night and came across MKO auto on yelp. Reviews were good so i decided to give them a try. Called early Sat. morning around 9am. Santi answered the phone. Told him what i wanted done to my vehicle and so he said he would give me call back after he figures out a good package deal. He called me back with an estimate and i brought my vehicle in around 10:15am. Services took about roughly 2 hours. When i picked up my vehicle it was all ready done and parked in the front waiting to be picked up. My car runs very well now and MPG has gone up. MKO is a very good shop. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good mechanic. Will definitely be going back to them in the future.

They did good work on my car (I think- they are the experts, not me) but I wouldn't buy a Groupon for them again. Even though it wasn't expired, they totally missed the point of the deal, only honoring the $19 I paid for it and then made me pay sales tax rather than just handing them the Groupon and being covered like every other business does. I have never had to pay anything to use a Groupon, and when I advised Groupon of this, they said I shouldn't have had to pay. I had already taken the time off work to go, and my car needed the work so I did it anyway, but I might not go back.

The quality of customer service is extrmemly horrible. I never encouter such bad service in my life. they do shady business, and they have unprofressional employee which put my life in dangour position.
Recently, I went to the auto to do timing belt service for my 6-cyclinder elcipse car. I went there because i saw their promotion at pennysaving and the price is reasonable.
couple days after i got my car back, the engine light is on. my car didn't have this symptom before i dropped my car to the autoshop. of course, i came back to shop and talked with the manager Sandiago. the manager kept claim it is misfire issue not related to mechanical problem because what they do is timing belt. and the detective code "300". it should be spark plug. adn said "why didn't i go to other shop. if other shop find out the problem related to their shop. they will pay me back. "
so i went to a viet shop and ask the owner to fixed the engine light. the owner open the front hook, see a loose screw which MKO didn't do the job right. so they detected "300" also, which mean changing spark plugs. so they change spark plugs for me, reset the memory, and ask me to drive certain distance to collect data. So i did what they said; however, my car's engine light was still on; plus, my car has some weired noise from the front side. i almost have car accident when i was driving on the way due to misfire with my manual car. It happend misfired twice even i drove a short distance. so scared when you are driving a car in big trouble. i went to viet shop again for the problems i found. the viet boss is so nice. he said" my friend, i don't want you be unhappy. left the card here, I will take care for you personally.
the viet boss spent two weeks to fixed my car problem. he first tried to kill noise and fixed the engine light. he found out the root cause is because of loose timming belt made by MKO autoshop. I asked the viet boss to take some picture and write note for my compensation because I trust what the manager said that i will be covered for money to fixed problem.
when I try the appropiated way for my compensation, you will see the totally different treatment which i once thought they were nice people. Honestly, i explained to manager and show him the picure and notes tooken from the other shop. The mananger agree they made mistake, and never pay for compensation. he said his boss would call me to solve the problem on tuesday 11/1/11. but when i call on wedsday 11/2/11, the manager said his boss was still out of town and will call me on thursday. but i never receive any call from them.
I felt bad about this shop because of their non-responsiblity to customer.
1. Manager agree they made a miskate. but they didn't appologize for what they done for me. I dropped my car to fix for two weeeks. I need to ask my girlfriend to wake up so early and drive me to work; then she went to school or work. and Because that, I quarrel with my girlfriend several times.
2. because of MKO autoshop unprofessional skill, it put my life in dangerous situation. I was so scared when i knew i driving a troubled car on the way. the car has misfire and almost have car accident. but when i approached for my compensation, they refused it.
3. when i approached to solve the problem. the manager said the boss was out of town and will be back on tuesday 11/1/11. and will contacted me. but today is thursday 11/3/11, i never the receive any phone call from the boss. i felt sad about that because i have strong feeling that the boss is not willing to contact me after the shop made a mistake to my car.
4. comparing the viet shop, the viet owner will asked me to leave the car for investgation for two weeks. and finally charge me at cheap price $400. but the same situation, when i stopped by MKO, the manager put the problem away. said "300"-spark plug misfire is eletical problem, not caused by them. When I find out the root cause by them, they avoid the responsibility again.
BE smart for the people who see this comment because you don't want to face the same situation as mine.

Santiago (the guy at the front desk) is amazing in recognizing my needs and provide excellent service. They provided me with competitive prices for my brakes and brake fluid flush, which I desperately need. I did my own research on how much the services would cost me and am completely satisfied with the amount they charged. Brakes came out to be $179 and the Groupon deal helped quite a bit in reducing the cost of oil change, tire rotation, etc. They had my car in and out in a few hours. I have nothing else to say, but "AWESOMENESS!"

This is the BEST auto service I have ever received!!! People working here are super nice, helpful & knowledgable. They handle your car services in the most efficient way. They inform you about the issues with your car but at the same time they don't push you into getting it done there or exaggerate it just to make themselves some business. I was in desperate need of a clutch replacement. I owned a 00" Acura Integra and i wanted the pricing for labor only since i had the clutch kit already. I called alot of mechanics and so far most of them in the San Jose area were a rip off. cmon $600 for labor on clutch disc replacement?i might as well save up and get a new motor.Then I called this place and the owner name Ony was really friendly to me and gave me a good price for the labor.Not only that,He recommind me to get a new fly wheel since he said my old one may not be good to resurface.So he ordered new flywheels for me and he was right, my old flywheels were jacked up!! Ony's labor and parts are reasonable price! he tells you straight up on point about your car and recommind you stuff that can get your car running like a champ!!He's also a funny man crack jokes and a really cool mechanic.I also forgot to mention the other mechanic name Sam.He also worked on my car and he's a great mechanic knows what hes doing and to tell you truth it looked like it was nothing to him when he was replacing my clutch disc!!Thats a true mechanic no hesitation on working on cars when you know what your doing!!! so fellas call these guys they are friendly they'll help you on your car problems and LADIES!! feel free to call them too.They will not ripp you off or take advantage of you on pricing if you dont know that much about your car. Just moved from Orange County to San Jose. Have been driving a Honda Element and having transmissions problems. Honda dealership was going to charge 2000 for it. I recommend these guys. I have only lived here for 3 years and it was hard to find a mechanic I can trust until I found MKO. They are dependable, very friendly, and always do their best to help the customer. My problems have always been resolved. I have known them before this shop opened up, back at their old location. Definately give these guys a try!

I live really close to this mechanic and was in need of an oil change... I called and recieved a reasonable quote. When I arrived Santiago at the front desk was super polite and helpful. I mentioned that my car had recently began to over heat. He quoted me an extra $30 for checking out the problem and if I got the work done there, they would credit that toward the necessary repairs. I was told I was running on borrowed time with the current condition of my car... I needed a new water pump, timeing belt, fan switch and radiator for almost $1000. WHAT?!? Im in college and drive an old car for a reason... IM BROKE! Santiago was kind enough to drop the price of the radiator BIG TIME and I could afford to get it done that weekend. He said the rest should last me a good month before I have to get them replaced... yeah, right. I was back in a week later for the same problem. Turns out it only lasted a week, not a month. They really had no way of knowing how long my car would run without more problems, I just feel that maybe I should have got the other stuff done first instead. Oh well, I got a huge discount on things that had to get done regardless. I appreciate what they did for me and will most likely go back for my next oil change. My car has been running fine since the repairs.

talk about a breath of fresh air. great service, very explanatory. went for an oil change and went back for brake pads because of the great service. mechanics explain everything, which is what i need since i am not knowledgeable with cars at all. i plan to continue coming here

Great customer service. Being new to the area it's always hard to find good, honest mechanics. I found this place had good reviews online and I took the chance. I am glad I did. The customer service there is great and the service is speedy. They were also very up front about possible extra costs. When they finished the oil change, they were very helpful and told me of other small issues: low coolant (which they filled up for me) and low brake fluid (which they suggested I just do it myself because it's cheap). Will definitely come back here again!

I had a job in San Jose when my Plumbing suddenly stopped. Thank goodness it stopped on Alum Rock right in front of Ony and MKO Auto repair. Ony helped me get off Alum rock and he took a look under the hood. My battery wire came off the battery and caused my Van to shut off. He had his Mechanic Santi tighten it up for me AT NO CHARGE! He told me it was minor and it was a Solid From One Business Owner to Another. I live in San Bruno but if I lived in San Jose I will send all my business to Ony and MKO Auto. Thank you Ony, I had to write this review to thank you. I hope you get something back for your kindness...From one person to another...

I was in for one of their promotional Pennysaver ad for my radiator brand new @ $59. Over the Phone Santiago told me he can honor the price for the radiator but once I got there I felt the bait and switch tactic they tried to use on me. They told me that the radiator was only at that price if I had the repairs done by them and buy their coolant at $25 a gallon! Their labor to install it was a lot higher than everybody else's! It was a complete waste of my time to even think I could come there and get an honest quote over the phone.

quoted me 450 for a radiator fan replacement.. i thought it was expensive but didnt want to bring to another shop... after 2hours the manager called back and said it would be 600 because he couldnt find a cheap part... not cool!
