My a/c system went down on our full size van & initially took it to another mechanic, with the system failing the next day. I looked for a/c mechanics here on Yelp & found TxMechs Automotive, so I contacted them, setting up the appointment. Upon meeting Trey, I found him personable, & very knowledgeable about a/c systems & how they work. After checking out the system, he provided me with a step-by-step procedure that he would do at a reasonable & fair price, which I accepted.
He evacuated the entire system removing all the existing freon cleaning the system out, before recharging it with new freon which contains a dye that will provide an indicator should there be a future leak. Cold air blew out at 65 degrees according to temperature gauge he placed in the air vent. After running the system for approximately 15-20 minutes, he checked for leaks & found none.
He was proficient & competent, methodically working through the steps he outlined. He definitely knows auto a/c systems. I will use him again to work on our two vehicles when the need arises.

Trey is totally awesome! He's very intelligent and knowledgeable in all areas of mechanics. He's priced fair and very diligent. We had a cv axle stuck in a wheel hub and to no avail were unable to remove said axle. I will definitely be using his services again with the riding lawn mower, go-kart, and other mechanical issues. Thanks Trey, you've earned my business

Threw the main engine belt on my Toyota Yaris, & wasn't confident to install a new one with proper tension, so I called TxMechs based on proximity and Yelp reviews. Got a reasonable phone quote & Trey came out the same day. While working, he pointed out a couple of concerns regarding scheduled maintenance for my engine, which just turned 120K miles. Finished quickly and threw in a headlight adjustment (which I mentioned I needed) at no extra charge. Holding off on the fifth star until I get more serious work done, but based on what I've seen so far, I might have found a new go-to mechanic.

I recently purchased my first car, an old Toyota pickup, with the hopes of going on a long road trip. I don't have a lot of car knowledge, and wanting something reliable I enlisted all the help I could get.
Fortunately, in addition to my friends this included asking TxMechs Automotive to do a pre-purchase screen. Trey met me at the location of the seller and looked over the entire car. It was in relatively good shape, but he did identify some needed repairs which provided great bargaining ammo and allowed me to bring the seller down in price.
Before I left I had him take care of the needed repairs. He was able to do so quickly and at a reasonable price. This even included putting some last minute overload springs in when I put a bit too much in the bed of the truck. My 2,000+ mile trip went off without a hitch, all thanks to Trey at TxMechs (and driving like a grandma).
If you're looking for an affordable, reliable, expedient, and kind mechanic, I would definitely recommend TxMechs.

Awesome! I finally found a good mechanic that I can trust. Four other mechanics told me that a piston rod was about to break and that my engine would have to be replaced. I posted my car on craigslist and tried to sell if for scrap. A few months later I found TxMechs. As a last resort, I called them and had a mechanic check it out. The mechanic had me start my engine and within two seconds told me to shut it off. He said it sounded like a bad timing belt. He was right. He replaced the timing belt and now my Saab runs better than ever. Honesty. Reasonable price. Quality. TxMechs saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars. I am a loyal customer forever!

We had taken our car to pep boys for overheating problem. Well 4days and 879.00 dollars later we pick up our car, drive it a couple of miles same problem we took it back to pep boys and the mechanic tells us that the overheating Has caused the heads to warp. So we took it to tx mechs for a second Opion,Trey the owner was pleasant, he found the problem within 2 min .pep boys had reversed the pipes while installing the radiator thanks to tx mex our car is running great and no overheating tx mechs is honest knowledgeable mechanics

I was one of Trey's first customers after he moved into the Austin area two years ago, and he has taken extraordinary care of my old 1990 Ford Ranger ever since. Over time he has treated my truck to a major tuneup, overhauled the brake system (new booster and master cylinder, emergency brakes and some hydraulic lines and couplings), serviced the drive train (transmission, clutch, differential, new U-joints), rebuilt the alternator, replaced the fuel pressure regulator ... and probably a few other things. (The regulator problem was tough to catch, but Trey's alertness probably prevented an engine fire.) *\/*\/* Last month I had a traffic mishap and the Ranger suffered minor front end damage, enough to have it towed home. Trey came to my house the next day to make it driveable (straightened bumper and grille, replaced the radiator, adjusted headlights and hood, etc.) which I really appreciate, since it is my only vehicle and I cannot afford another one just now. As I write this review, he is doing some followup repairs to correct an alignment problem. Prognosis: all major systems are still in pretty good shape (whew!) and we can plan to repair the cosmetic issues in due course. *\/*\/* Working with Trey has already saved me hundred$ in both parts and labor -- he knows right away who can supply quality parts at affordable prices, and when necessary can rebuild or adapt whatever might be available, e.g., retrofitting a generic catalytic converter on a friend's Dodge Dart for half the cost of an OEM unit. (It passed the emissions test just fine!) His rates are a bit lower than others in the area and he often bills less than "book" time. Best of all, he is willing to tackle almost any job (including older vehicles) and really work with you to see it through. *\/*\/* BTW: Trey also rebuilds cars, motorcycles (including my 1989 Yamaha 250) and other assorted mechanical monsters. Call him if you have a project in mind. *\/*\/* Overall satisfaction: 10 out of 10 Would recommend: YES (including many of my friends)
