I had a great experience at D&J. I found them via YELP reviews and came here to address an issue with my car that required immediate attention. They were able to get me in quickly (same day), and diagnosed and fixed the problem in just about an hour. They fixed the problem for a fair price, and furthermore gave me an honest review of some of the other issues my car might be facing in the future based on what they saw.
They are family owned and operated, and the owner is a former Marine. I was very impressed, and highly recommend D&J Auto Doctors.

I've had to take my Tacoma here a couple times for some normal old truck problems. Denise and Darren have always been up front with all costs and provided great customer service. They are willing to work around my weird schedule and have even offered to give me a ride to pick up my truck when it was ready. I am going to be very sad when I move out of the area and have to find a new mechanic who I can trust.

We had such a great experience at this shop! I would recommend to anyone. We arrived in Oceanside after a seven hour drive and our car immediately began vibrating uncontrollably. We brought our car in and Darren diagnosed the problem within a couple minutes. He even gave us a discount on the diagnosis fee since it was so quick to find the issue. The staff was friendly and professional. Overall, this place is fair, honest, and provides excellent customer service.

Happy Birthday to me! My car stranded me at the laundromat, called D&J and told them what was going on with my baby. Said I was going to call AAA and have them give me a jump then go to the shop, but NO Darren came to my rescue, brought a jump box, and I followed him to the shop. My baby needed a new alternator and of course a battery. Well the dealer wanted to charge $400 bucks for a new one, but Darren worked his magic and found me a new one for ALOT Less. "This car has a bad motor design from Toyota, sorry but we are not interested in repairing."
My car is a 2001 Celica that lasted me 300,000+ miles. How is that a bad motor design?
And the claim they specialize in Asian cars?!

Took my 10 year old Honda CR-V here a couple of weeks ago. I just needed to have the transmission flushed and replaced with fresh oil. I also told them it was making a funny noise when the car turned. I received a call about the noise. They recommended that we change the fluid in the differential, as it was original also. They put fresh honda recommended oil in it. The noise stopped. We've been putting it off for 5 years. Darren took care of it in one easy fix. I really liked the service and care we received here. I'll be back and will recommend them to anyone who listens.

AMAZING!!! From day 1... we were treated with care. Brought our 10 year old Escalade in because it wouldn't pass smog. DJ hooked it up printed out a detailed report and gave it to us straight. Repairs were not easy or cheap, manifold ...but we passed smog no problem.

My husband took our car back since he noticed one of the lights was out, which was part of the most recent repairs. Darren was very accommodating & fixed it no questions asked. Like I said in my first review, this an honest mechanic with a conscience. Just be sure to be very clear about what you want diagnosed & repaired, also when getting updates on the job, be sure to ask them to explain costs along the way.

This is the second time I have used D&J Auto and I highly recommend them to work on your car or truck. This time I took my truck in to have the transmission fixed and they also took care of the front differential and checked out the battery and charging system for me. D&J is amazing. I've been taking my Subaru to them for 4 years and they're the only mechanics I trust in San Diego. I've had my fair share of shady shops that halfway fix the problem or give you faulty parts- I always end up taking my car to D&J to fix other people's bad work. Denise is a saint and is always super helpful. I feel like I actually understand what is wrong with my car and how it will be fixed when I take it to D&J. Highly recommend!

This place is awesome! Trustworthy, friendly, and thorough.
I was looking to buy a truck that was located in Oceanside. I called around to try and find a shop who would give me an honest answer about the condition of the car. I spoke with Brooke on the phone who was very helpful and friendly. She explained a few things that could go wrong with a truck that age. Turns out she was right about the suspension needing work. I got to speak directly to the mechanic who worked on the car and he took the time to explain all of the issues in detail. He let me know what needed immediate attention and what I can hold off on for now. They wrote me up a great quote on the repairs and emailed it to me. All within an hour or two.
D&J went way above and beyond a typical inspection. I would highly recommend them.

A bit pricey at $80+ for services that other shops would have done for $25 or so (with a coupon of course).
I arrived first thing in the morning right as they opened.
About 99 minutes for oil & filter change as well as tire rotation and balance.
Customer service very friendly in the morning.

This shop knows what they are doing! My husbands truck wouldn't start so we were planning on having it towed to a shop. We researched diesel mechanics and called D&J. After a quick explanation of the situation they gave him a quick fix to get his truck to start. They are great people and so honest. We drove the truck in and they fixed the problem precisely. My husband is very happy with the way this shop runs and he plans on bringing his truck here again this month for some more maintenance.

I have taken our car here about 5 different times now and every single time they are nothing but friendly, thorough and honest! I do not know much about cars and they put it in terms easy for me to understand and don't try to push anything that doesn't need fixed! One of the mechanics today said to me, "if it isn't broken don't fix it!" Which is not how a lot of car shops work. They are not all about the money, they truly care! They have even recommended us to other honest shops for things they don't do, like smog and audio! We are moving to Fallbrook soon and I will still continue to make the drive out here for any car troubles because they are flat out amazing. My husband and I recommend them to all of our friends because we know they will get the job done right the first time, quickly and at a reasonable price too!

Can this place be for real? YES! It is!! My Infiniti had a body throttle problem and when I took it to the dealer, they said it would be $900 plus. My husband made me search around for another quote---so I went on Yelp and found D & J's...with 5 WHOLE stars! So I called and talked to Brooke -- who is so personable and sweet and wonderful and reassuring! She said it would be about $300 to repair..after she looked up the part and did some research.
All I have to say is, I can't believe I found a mechanic that I can trust and I will be returning--even though we live in Carlsbad.

Fantastic service Sooo glad I found this place on yelp of course! One of our company box trucks broke down on the 5 north in BFE, I researched a few local shops this one happens to Work on diesel 7.3l power stroke, they connected me up with a towing company that tows commercial vehicles(very hard to find); A one stop shop saved me hours of aggravation. We just got back our truck they did an excellent job, went the extra mile for us. I was very impressed with how thorough Darren was(including explaining details on the phone)they replaced a broken Peace of a larger part not the entire assembly which probably saved me $500.00 I only wish I lived in Oceanside I would take all my cars to d & j. This is a Gem it's nearly impossible to find Trust worthy mechanic. Worth my time to give this 5 star review. Thanks To everyone at D&J you are all Rock Stars in my book.

Darren (D) and James (J) are the best!
When I was going through the vigorous process of finding a car Darren would check each one for me to see if it was worth buying. He was so thorough that the owner of the vehicle I ended up purchasing actually commented on how much time and care he took on his vehicle and how if he wasn't moving out of the country he would make the drive to Oceanside from where he lived in Irvine to continue to bring his cars to them!
After they helped me find the perfect car (that has been an amazing car ever since) they continue to keep my baby in great condition. If I go in for an oil change they go the extra mile and check out everything else. Darren always keeps me informed on things that may be coming up as far as maintenance on my car and about how long I can expect until it is a problem that needs fixed so I don't have any surprises.
As a young female who can appear to not have any knowledge of cars it can be very frustrating trying to work with mechanics who try to take advantage and over charge or make unnecessary repairs or not make the repair at all! It gives me great peace of mind and makes my life much less stressful knowing that D and J have my back. They actually care for the safety of their customers.
So parents out there who worry about their kids out on there own and breaking down, worry no more!! Just go visit D and J and let them take care of your whole family's cars and have one less thing to worry about.

I received a call from the shop last night. They had seen my review on yelp and read my bit about the headlight. It seems that they didn't replace it - there may be an electrical issue. He said when he went to change out that particular bulb it simply turned back on! So if I experience no other issues I'll be fine, but if it goes out again I may need to repair it.
How awesome is that! ^_^ They obviously care a lot about their customers and gladly go the extra mile to ensure satisfaction and make sure your car is in tip top shape! It's so refreshing to find a honest business like this these days!

Darren and James, and the team at D & J Auto are extremely professional and knowledgeable mechanics!
Unfortunately I had to take my Duramax in because it was having some serious issues, rare for an LLY however, Darren and Jame's expertise was far exceeded my expectations. As a customer, it's always comforting to know that your mechanic is of the highest quality with over 20 years of experience. Darren was able to articulate the issues with my truck to me in a manner that i was able to understand. After they were done, i can honestly say my truck runs better than it ever has!
I highly recommend D & J to anyone looking for a good mechanic! They are awesome people and have excellent customer service!

My 1999 Honda Odyssey decided to start stalling on the way back from base up the 76. Yeah, that was getting scary. When it happened a second time, my husband researched Yelp & unearthed D&J's. Turns out they're form back east like us.
I got the van's ESG (did I say that right? These danged codes these days) valve fixed & it totally did the trick.
When I shared what type of auto I'd want next, I believe it was one of their mechanics, Chris, as well as Darren, who cued me in to which SUVs I might want to steer clear of. That mechanical insider perspective goes above & beyond the actual service call & I completely appreciated it.
It is ALWAYS smart to investigate auto reliability with the people who deal w/THAT end of the industry!
Very honest & fair. No jerking you around, I immediately brought a GF in w/me to get her Honda Fit's oil changed & a once over for her trip back east. She was satisfied as well. SCORE.

It's so hard to find an honest mechanic that can explain things in terms you can understand. I went here becuase of the yelp reveiws and my dad owns a mechanic business back home and told me no matter what to find a trustworthy place. They are not only trustworthy but their customer service is amazing! I was taking my car up to Big Sur, CA and it's over 130,000 miles and I needed to make sure it was going to run smoothly and what absolutely needed done and what could wait. I dropped my car off, got offered a ride home, and then they called me with an estimate and exactually what needed done before I left and what could wait. It was reasonably priced, great service, my car runs better than it ever has, and I will be going back here for all my auto needs.

Fantastic! Most honest auto repair shop I have ever dealt with!
They fixed my clutch/tranny/exhaust system all for $900! And fast! Dropped it off Thursday evening, picked it up Sunday!
I had welded my leaking exhaust shut because that way I'd never have to fix it again. Seemed like a good idea at the time. That was until my clutch went out. My options were to try to saw thru my pipe (very akward position, and difficult) or take it to a shop. I'm so glad I took it to these guys.
They swapped out my transmission with a used one for $900, treated me with dignity and respect, were very patient with all of my annoying questions, and were very honest.
Also, the bolts that connect my exhaust system to my engine were brittle and some of them had broken off into the engine block! Aparently Nissan expects you to change out these bolts every few years or 30,000 miles or something.
Anyway, D & J drilled into my engine block carefully to remove the corroded bolts and replaced them with stainless steel ones that will never corrode for free! Which leaves me with 2 questions: Why would I go anywhere else and why didn't Nissan use stainless bolts from the start? What are they, a buck a bolt? Oh wait - that's 3 questions.

Daren and Denise are the owners of the shop and have been family friends of ours for years (his kids babysat me, I babysat his kids, my dad and Daren did some work together for a bit... etc.). They run their shop beautifully. They don't have the lowest prices in town, but keep in mind, they are a small family owned and operated shop who have always done and always will do amazing quality work. James is one of the mechanics there and he is a hell of an awesome guy. He gives you the straight low down on your car, and is up front about everything with you. Everyone there is all about customer satisfaction. If its an easy but expensive job, they will teach you how you can do it yourself at home if you choose to save some money. So there you have it. Saw nothing but great reviews on this place do I figured I would give it a try when my car had some issues. When I got there I was quoted a cheap price and a fast time line to when my car would be finished so I gave the go ahead on the repair to be done, a simple part swap which I provided the part for and all I needed was the labor done. Soon as they finished the mechanic said the part was installed but it was not working properly and they would have to take it out but charge me again for the labor I decided against it and drove home with the "bad"part anyway but noticed a horrible sound coming now from the engine luckily I know enough to figure out what the noise was and how to fix it and I did. It has now been a week and the "bad" part I'd still working and have not had any problems with my car. I will not be coming to this place again and I would recommend staying away I think they write their own reviews.

Eduardo is a fantastic mechanic and is extremely knowledgeable in the Toyota Lexus side but also know a tone about everything else. i definitely 500% recommend this shop to ANYONE!!

I called and asked for pricing for a 95 truck. He says $70 but $10 off today so $60 ( its $51 + $8fee a block over). I get there and confirm price at $60 she says yes. Then she yes but its a truck so its $70, I said he already said $60 on the phone when I clearly said it was a truck. I come back half an hour later, he says it fails the gas cap pressure test. I ask how much does the cap usually cost he says $12-14, he sells it for $15. I later find out its $7.99 at autozone two blocks over. I've never an into the issue before and it just passed a year ago, and I probably only use it once a month. He hassles me to decide to buy it elsewhere or buy it from him because he has another customer ( its only been 1 minute since he mentioned the failure). The price difference alone is not too big a deal, but with everything else I just can't help but wonder if the cap really failed so they can get the extra $10 that they wanted to charge. I keep the cap and the gasket looks perfectly fine to me but obviously its just a visual inspection. Service was fast, and receptionist was nice, didn't make a hassle over change ( 19 cents ). A little sketchy to me if everyone has gas cap failures here... so just making note for everyone.
