Its a refreshing thing to walk into a family-owned business. Scott pretty much gave me a Shop 101 Class as we looked under the hood of my car. He explained what was wrong, took the time to walk me through the simple solution. Went back into his shop to find the part i needed, and we were off and running. I thought my Ranchero ran good before i rolled in there...but she came out purring!! So stoked.

Needed a last minute alternator for my Camry before driving home to Tucson. Mike had me come by immediately, dropped his other obligations, and got me on the road within an hour. The price seemed reasonable, especially Mike's labor. The location is excellent for turistas like us, just down the hill from the majority of Leucadia beach bluff rentals. Highly recommended.

Honest and Reliable. The way every auto shop should be. Brought my truck in and totally thought I needed a clutch which they could have done for me... Instead they fixed a tiny part of the clutch and saved me $800 when they could have easily charged me for the entire thing...

I won't take my car anywhere else but here!
These guys are not only extremely friendly, but also very honest and will not charge you an arm and a leg. I went there for the first time recently to get an oil change and to ask about my check engine light because i need my car to pass smog. They changed my oil, found the issue with my check engine light, and fixed a small exhaust leak i didn't know about. They told me to come back right before my Smog test so they can take a look again to make sure it will pass. These guys were so nice and i HIGHLY recommend going to them.

Scott helped me complete a DIY brake pad replacement where I got in over my head. When I put my new pads in, the caliper wouldn't retract fully, leaving the pads rubbing the disc.
He took the time to talk through the possible causes thoroughly, and we arrived at the right path forward without any of the usual car-repairman trickery. I got the impression he was being very straight forward and honest, two things you want when you're not quite sure what's wrong with your car.
Service was also pretty quick and while I didn't shop around a ton, the cost seemed reasonable.

I was sent to this auto place by a friend and it is just down the street from my work. I called ahead and I was told to bring it in as 8 am the next day. I did so. At 2 PM I called to see the status for the brakes that I know need to be done. They had not looked at it. I said that I needed to have my car back and could not leave it for two or more days. Scott got on the phone and I told him this. He proceeded to yell at me and say that it is raining and he can't get to every car. To not bearate him for it and he would just not look at it and I could come and get it and hung up on me.No matter how the persons day is going and what the challenges are in a day, being talked to like that is no matter is not what i wanted. I would suggest that if you want a professional working on your car that puts customer service as a priority this is not the place to take your car.

Took in my car to have an exhaust installed on my daily driver since I do not possess a lift to do it myself. No custom work, just an exhaust install-- literally twelve bolts. Was told I would be receiving my car back the next day, yet my car was sitting in their back lot, untouched, for a week. They kept giving me a runaround as to why it was taking so long, but it doesn't matter because the job is seriously twenty minutes' worth of work. I know, because I removed it from the last car it was on-- virtually identical to mine. Also, I'd expect a glorious job from the time it took, but lo and behold, they forgot to install the catalytic converter. They put a straight pipe there instead. Way to go. Overall, not worth anywhere near the $250 it cost to have this done.
He knows a decent amount about cars, but not enough to warrant the amount of positive yelp reviews. I say this as somebody who is extremely knowledgeable about the workings of vehicles and has performed multiple transmission, engine, suspension, and even ECU repairs, rebuilds, and tunes.
I suppose if you needed basic car work and did not have a time limit this shop would be okay, but for anything else I'd simply avoid.

Called first thing Monday to check on how busy they were and if they could work on my car. Was told they were NOT very busy and to bring it in. When I got there I was given a completely different story that they WERE busy and down 1 person. Since they couldn't promise anything I made an appointment for the following Wed. cause they had a light schedule. Dropped it off at 9,,,,,,but by 3:30 still hadn't heard anything. I called and was told that they hadn't started on the tuneup and most likely wouldn't be able to finish it until the next day. They apparently had been trying to replicate the problem I was having of the car running rough....... Not sure why that would have taken 6 1/2 hours. Wasted alot of my time !

So I needed some serious work after a minor accident and I needed it in a hurry. AAA sent me to a shop that wanted to charger over $1000 and couldn't finish it for a few days, but the tow driver told us to head here. So he dropped us off. Scott's Automotive was phenomenal. They treated us really well, explained everything that was damaged, and explained how it could be fixed. I was looking for the duct tape just make it work method, but, obviously, duct tape wasn't all that the car needed. Of course, it needed a new radiator, a new fan, and that was to make it run. I told them it didn't need to look pretty, it just needed to run. They were able to get a new radiator in that same day for a very great price (discounted, too!), but the fan was a little more difficult. Even though it was tougher to get the fan, they still got it in and ready to run by the next day and even hooked us up with an amazing rental company that was also inexpensive for the night. All for less than $500. We picked up the car and things have been amazing since. I appreciate their work and look forward to seeing them again to fix some other problems on the car!

These guys are great!
I have a 1998 Toyota 4Runner. Scott, Andrew and Tyler all weighed in with their expertise and helped guide me in getting a cool muffler that made my rig rumble like it's supposed to. They were all super helpful, especially Scott with his years' of experience and Andrew - he used to race off-road Toyotas and has lots of experience building cool off-road Toyota rigs. He gave me lots of great tips for when I do future mods, like to the motor and suspension. They ordered my muffler on Wednesday and had it installed by Thursday at noon, all for a great price.

Right after moving to San Diego my car broke down. On the recommendation of a friend, I took it to Scotts AFTER the dealership told me it was going to be $4500 to fix my car. Scott took my car on his off time and looked at it. He told me within minutes that the dealership had the wrong diagnosis. The problem was only a couple hundred to fix. I'm so glad I took it to him!
Everyone there is honest and friendly. Scott will give you a fair price and treat your car like it belongs to a family member. I'm so glad to find a great auto guy near my new home! I will never take my car anywhere else!

Scott and his guys are just wonderful! Good, honest, people that are going to take care of what you need with no fluff or funny business. I drive an older car that needs quite a bit of work and have taken her to Scott on several occasions. I really appreciate that he is upfront about the amount of work required, the pricing, and his willingness to work with me and my limited budget. I always feel safer driving away and if I ever did have questions or problems, he is just an understanding and informative phone call away. I have recommended Scott's to my mother and she has since sent business to her friends as well. We all have only had positive experiences! Even though I now live in San Diego, I'll continue to drive up to Leucadia to take my car to someone I can trust!

A friend had him do the brakes, the wheel fell off on the way home.
I like to use locals, but I will never use them again and will tell all I know to NEVER USE THEM.

Back safely home, I'm taking the time to recommend this business because these are true-blue, honest, caring, knowledgeable, friendly guys who truly know and love cars and want to help you fix up yours and they charge a very reasonable price for doing it. My Subaru Outback broke down on a business trip on a Saturday afternoon --a stranger from 500 miles away, and I felt like my car was being fixed up by family. They jumped in like a pit crew. In replacing a snapped (serpentine) belt, another part that needed replacement was unavailable on weekends, but Scott and his guys save parts in back.... they quickly rooted around and voila, something just perfect to provide a temporary fix to get me safely home. Heartwarming and actually FUN experience going to Scott's that did more than repair my car; it repaired faith in fellow man.

brought my truck in 5/9/2011 for timing and carburetor adjustment, weeks and weeks passed with no calls, I called every week and showed up to Scott's Auto several times bringing a carburetor in on one occasion, my truck sat in their lot for 2 months, finally picked it up 7/7/2011, very displeased with the run around I got from Scott, Matt, and the entire staff,
Nothing got accomplished, truck is running much worse than when I took it in, almost did not make it home, well off to look for a new mechanic, with expertise and honesty.

Casual and knowledgeable! And both in a good way! I went there yesterday because I didn't take care of my care and some problems were adding up. I read reviews on yelp and was a little apprehensive ( seven 5 stars reviews and two 1 star reviews). Well, my take on that place is that they are great! And usually I don't come back to a car shop; I just feel that I haven't find the right place. There, the price seems fair and they are not stressing you out on your car. The recommendations are on what you have to do and what need to be done. I am going back next month to take car of my muffler there. If you are like me and like a more casual, close to earth and knowledgeable people, you should try it out.

I had been told they did things at a fair price, but after my call this morning I will be telling my friends and family to avoid it. These guys rock! I called them on a Saturday after Pep Boys had annoyed me for the last time and they were willing to assess my problem. Not only did they tell me Pep Boys installed the brake pads improperly, but that now they were trying to tell me I needed drums, plus claimed to do things to my car that had never been done! They showed me my car, the pads, and explained each process along the way so I could understand the way my car is supposed to look like after pads are properly installed, rotors are cut and braking brake adjusted....all which was "supposedly "done before! I highly recommend them! Very honest, reliable and they fairly priced!

I will have to say that I'm very disappointed with this shop. My daughter's car broke down and the auto club took her car to this shop. They determined that she needed her alternator replaced and it was going to cost her $446. I called to verify the quote and spoke to Matt. When I expressed that I felt it was excessive, he became arrogant and told me to take the car some place else. I found pep boys who quoted me $325 for the job including towing. I think Scott's Automotive is out there to take advantage of people or to put it simply... rip people off.

8 months ago our car died and Scott was recommended by a friend. We got it back the same day, and paid hundreds less than we expected. Recently our car died again, so we naturally had it towed to Scott. After not hearing from him for a day, we called and spoke to a mechanic who needed obvious customer service classes. He was extremely busy, and had no idea what the issue was with our car. Only that it was not the same issue as 8 months prior. So we decided to be patient and wait. We waited 2 more days, and still no phone call from them. We called again, asking about our car. Again we got the mechanic, and he had not taken any customer service classes since we last spoke. He proceeded to tell us how "f'd-up" our car was, and that we should just junk it. He was still trying to figure out the problem so we decided to let him go and just show up at the shop, which we did the next morning. Our car was parked in the back lot, not being worked on, and looking as if it had been there for a while. We finally spoke to the elusive Scott, and he repeated what the mechanic had told us --- they were not sure what the issue was, but we should just get another car. Oh, and that 'they'had unplugged a sensor plug and it would run very roughly, and 'they'wouldnt go too far. Very comforting. And this diagnosis cost was $300. I would NEVER recommend that anyone take their vehicle here. They are rude, and obviously hurting for money. Stay away.

great guys love this place. they are the best around. They treat you like family and will always make you laugh. Yes sometimes they are busy, but what good shop wouldn't be. Anyways they have great prices and even if your simply looking for some advice on whats going on with you car so you can fix it yourself they are the ones that will point you in the right direction. I have been going to these guys for years and have never had one single issue. These guys rule!

I went down the street to a competitor and they quoted me $1575 for a job that Leucadia Auto Body did for $650! It was beautiful, perfect and done in two days!! They did not try to sell take advantage of me and tell me I needed other parts of my car done in order to match the new paint, like the other place down the street. I'd HIGHLY recommend Leucadia Auto Body -- Linda is great!
