I've had one experience with this shop but at this point, they are at the top of my list to return with any repair. Had what I thought was a front end problem on a domestic car, a GM. I tried to take it to a well regarded shop near our airport but they specialize in a couple of Japanese brands and, when asked for a recommendation, suggested this place.
Called, they were friendly, suggested I bring it in for a test drive so they know how long to schedule it for... and the next open slot was a few days into the future. Lots of clunks from the front end and a shimmy at speed. Could have been bad.
A busy shop that isn't hungry for business and exudes quiet competence.
Brought it in, I described the issues, we went for a very short drive of a couple of minutes and the verdict was... tread separation was beginning on the tires (they'd be happy to be involved in that but suggested I just go to a local tire store right away. The clunk that went with the shimmy they thought was an infamous nagging problem of a steering column half shaft on many GM models... a lubrication according to a service bulletin should fix it. It did.
This was a little $84 dollar job that I thought could be expensive. Not a big test but at no time did I think I was dealing with amateurs. I will be back.

Tried to fill my flat tire at chevron and it was broken. The guy at Nevada city auto was nice enough to fill it for me complimentary. I didn't have time to have it fixed but I appreciate the help in filling it! Thank you!!!!

This shop has been under the same ownership for 35 years. Pat & Meredith and the good people at N.C. Auto are honest, hardworking and very fair. I would take my car there for anything!

The guys at Nevada City Auto Service are great! While returning to Reno on Highway 20, my Taurus starting losing power and the check engine light started flashing. I limped back to Nevada City and luckily saw this business from the freeway, so I pulled up to an empty bay. The manager (Jason, I think) had John look at my car. He used analyzers on it, checked under the hood, checked the exhaust, started it, etc., and while doing so, he explained what was going-on. I know some mechanics so I know he was not BS'ing me, and his explanations were sound. Bottom line: he gave me good, honest info which helped me make the decision to have it towed by AAA back to Reno. A dishonest shop could have kept me there and milked me for days, but not these upstanding gents. When I went to the office to settle the bill, Jason told me, "that my day had been bad enough" and didn't charge me. How often have you heard of an auto shop being that cool? I have a good mechanic in Reno, but if these guys had a shop here, I would go to them in a heartbeat, and I heartily recommend them to anyone in the Nevada City area.

Ryan at Nevada City Auto is the only person I let touch my car. In the past 6 years, and 2 cars, there have been 2 times I did some routine maintenance elsewhere (because I was living out of town) and both times I had to bring my car back to Ryan and have him fix what they did. He goes above and beyond and the feeling that I can completely trust what I'm being told is priceless. Thank you Ryan.

I have used Nevada City Auto service for over 20 years and have always been pleased with their great work. They go out of their way to get the job done and done right. It is essential to have a dependable auto mechanic, especially with the older cars we drive and I have found that in Nevada city Auto service. Thanks for being there and all your service to us over the years.

Check engine light came on after 10 hour road trip. Have to leave again later today. When I called they said they were too booked to work on it (a sign of a good mechanic)... :) but they would able to squeeze me in to at least check the code and tell me if I can keep going on my trip - which they did free of charge. Really nice guys. Highly recommended.

Coming through Nevada City on vacation, our truck developed an electrical problem. They not only let us park our trailer in their back lot overnight, they got it in the shop at 8 a.m. the next morning, found the problem, got it fixed and had us on the road by 11 a.m. They could have sold us a replacement alternator, but found the specific part and had it repaired at an alternator shop for less than half the cost of a new alternator. Their shop is clean, all the mechanics helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend their services to anyone living near or passing through Nevada City/Grass Valley, CA. For a multitude of reasons, I found out several years ago this is the best auto shop I have ever done business with. With 4 cars and several years of relying on them to find and do all the repairs, I have never been let down! All with a genuine smile on their faces as they greet you and say good bye. Old fashioned values , hard to find ANY business like this these days!
