I was referred here by a friend who takes all his cars to MBA. I was very happy with the communication and the efficiency of work. I got brakes, tire rotation and an oil change. Pricing was very fair and a lot cheaper than the dealership ( duh) and Firestone ( who told me I needed new rotors when I didn't).
I have already sent another colleague here and they were happy with the service as well. I am excited to have found my new mechanic in San Diego.

A great pleasure to keep the 5-star reviews going for this very professional & HONEST auto service firm.
Last Saturday I returned for annual service, and even was warned by Mike to change my date to catch their advertised 15 / 5% discount offer on parts & labor. This really amazed me that he'd remember my minor service date among all the vehicles / clients hitting them up every day to call my cell and suggest moving my appointment up. Talk about PERSONAL service !!
My car was IN/Out within 60 minutes due to it only needing an oil change and routine inspection of brakes, fluids hoses & belts. I also am impressed with their client waiting / rest rooms too.
Don't look any further for your auto service shop with these awesome guys right off the I-5 mission bay exit !!

Mission Bay Automotive is the only place to take your car! They are honest, trustworthy and do a fantastic job!
Can't say enough good things about them. This is the 3rd time I have taken my car to them for various things, some as simple as fixing my brake lights to replacing a compressor.
Hector always tells me upfront best case scenario and worst case...and doesn't ever do any repairs without letting me know. Being on a very limited income I really appreciate this!
You can't go wrong if you choose them to fix your car!

I was referred to these guys after I bought a car at auction and soon discovered the deal was 'too good to be true'. Needless to say I was bummed. Until Hector & MBA assured me the car was generally in good shape and well cared for. They gently walked me through a rather major repair and restored my faith in auto mechanics. They were honest, courteous, forthright and compassionate. They communicate well, their waiting room is clean and comfortable. I've now had my car for 8 months, am quite pleased with the results and would NOT consider going anywhere else. These guys ROCK!

Been bringing my 2001 Honda Accord here for 2+ years. The costumer service is wonderful and the prices are fair for the service. I'm not a "car" person but the staff always do a great job at explaining everything to me when I come in.

By far one of the best experiences I've had at an automotive repair shop. Mike was very honest about what needed to be done to get my car back on the road and did everything in his power to save me money. It's very rare when a shop values the customer. This is now my go to spot for any work I'll need done on cars.

Had to have some routine maintenance done on my SUV so I headed to MBA.
Hector was standing by and had me checked in quickly.
I sat in the waiting room while my vehicle had its oil changed, it's tires rotated and a thorough inspection done.
I was ready to roll in about an hour. No surprises.
Fair price, nice location, great people.
I highly recommend Mission Bay Automotive.

Well, I'm jumping on the bandwagon. I chose this location 100% based on the Yelp reviews...and they were spot on. I had never visited this location prior to my current visit. I went by prior to opening (which they smiled and invited me in early). Hector listened to my issues and said he would phone me in a few hours. About an hour or so later, Hector phoned me w a diagnosis, solution options, and pricing. After I agreed to the services, he phoned me before noon stating my repairs were complete and ready for pick up. My problem was fixed- I got my car back in perfect condition- and the price was exactly as quoted. They now have a customer for life! Solid work and very professional.

I've been coming to Mission Bay since it was at its old location down the hill from USD. It's my go to car repair shop for so many reasons.
First, they're very trustworthy. I never feel like just because I'm not knowledgable about cars that I'll be had by them. They're honest and they're fair in their pricing.
I also appreciate that they don't try to charge you for every little thing. I recently went in to check a leak. It ended up not being anything so I wasn't charged for it.
These guys are awesome and I recommend everyone I know to bring their cars down to them. They'll always do a quality job and for a fair and reasonable price. They're the best in San Diego!

This place is unbelievable. I've been coming here for years and every time I come here, I leave happy... Who leaves happy from a mechanic?!
These guys are the most honest people I've met in this industry. They are all about doing what's best for your car AND FOR YOUR POCKET.
Over the years whenever I had a problem with my car, Hector has walked me to my car and showed me the problem. For example, I had some cracks on one of my belts. When I got to the mechanic he opened the hood, took out a flashlight and made sure I saw every crack in the timing belt before working on it.
When I needed new tires, Hector did all the research for me. He came back with several different prices in a very wide range to make sure it would fit my budget. He took the time to explain the difference between the tires.
But this is the best part: I started having my husband come into Mission Bay Auto. He had a problem with his steering wheel tumbler. I called Hector and told him about it. Being the knowledgeable man that he is, Hector knew this problem was common amongst these cars and told me about a recall. He advised me to call the dealership and tell them to fix it since it was a recall. When the dealership declined to (saying our vehicle was 1 month short of being in the batch that was recalled), Hector felt our frustration but gladly took my husbands car into work on it. He gave my husband options, he explained everything that could be done, and he kept in touch without husband the whole time. His car drives as if it's brand new now.
The fact that these people are not money hungry and even suggested a route for us to get our car fixed that would be at no cost to us.. says a lot about them. I will forever continue to take my car here, my whole family takes their cars here, and I highly recommend them.

These guys are the real deal. I've been to dedicated BMW shops and I get much faster and honest service from Mission Bay Auto without trying to bleed you dry.
Hector is the man! Even stuck around after they closed for 15 min to give me a short lift back home. Quick estimates, even quicker service, honest mechanics. What more could you ask for? Oya this really cool rare limo/bus checker!

Once again, these guys blew my mind.
Went to get what I thought was new brakes. Any other shop would have robbed me blind with brakes and rotors. Theses guys told me how it was, fixed the issue without nonsense or unnecessary repairs.
I love you guys forever. Thanks again for always being the most honest mechanics I've ever met! you've got a customer for life!

Went there to fix intermittent vibrations on my 2011 Civic. As I guessed, the issue was related to cracked engine mounts. Hector recommended replacing 2 out of 3 mounts after a test drive and inspection on the lift. After I authorized the repairs he ordered the mounts. Parts arrived after about an hour and my car was fixed 2.5 hours later.
Waiting area is clean, with nice couches, TV, phone charging station and free coffee!
Overall, I was pleased with quality of work, professional customer service and fair price. I strongly recommend MBA for repairs and routine maintenance.

We were visiting friends here when my check engine light started lighting up. It's always a big worry when you have a car problem so far from home but Yelp didn't fail us.Thank God these guys were open on Saturday.Very professional and no surprises. I was very happy that they were able to accommodate me right away and took care of the problem right away. I thought it was going to be big problem but it wasn't bad at all. So glad to find a trustworthy mechanic. Too bad they aren't closer to home.

Great customer service. Brought my car Ford Escape in for air conditioner problems. There were 2 separate issues. They recharged the air conditioner for a very fair price that part is still working great. The motor a/c blower motor that controls the air flow that they fixed stopped working after a few days. I haven't had a chance to call and bring it back yet but based on my first visit with them I don't anticipate any problems because they told me the work was under warranty. They gave me clear estimate for work and told me any thing else that came up would not be worked on without my consent. They were true to their word. I will update once I get a chance to get back in for the a/c fan blower issue. I would recommend this place for sure. I have another mechanic but he doesn't work on a/c. I might even try MBA for other repairs too based on my experience with them.

I received amazing service today. It is never a good thing to be without a car on a manic Monday. We dropped it off after hours on Sunday and were contacted first thing this morning. The updates were very much appreciated and the repairs on my car were completed on time. Even when we rushed in 1 minute before closing time to pick it up, Hector took his time and explained everything to us. The overall service was professional and prompt and thus, I would highly recommend using them for all of your automotive repair and servicing needs!

I have been coming here for over 25 years and, once again, they did not disappoint. I needed to replace a catalytic converter and Hector went out of his way to make the entire operation go smoothly Troy Hector, Mike, and all the other mechanics are first rate and honest...a real rarity today...they will never try to sell you a part or service that you don't need. So, if honesty, feeling like you are part of the family, and quality of service are important to you; then this is the only place you should ever go to for auto repairs and service

As good as customer service gets. I have taken my car here twice, and both times they have repaired exactly what I needed and gotten my car back to running perfect. Owner is very fair, and upfront about all costs. Made it a point to tell me that they are only going to fix what needs fixing to keep my cost as low as possible. In fact, my last repair was (apparently) a quick fix, and they didn't charge me anything at all! I fully recommend Mission Bay Automotive.

I was here a couple of months ago and I got frustrated because they just kept pushing their sales lines saying my car needed things while I know it didn't. The car is actually only two years old, driven under normal conditions. I came here for regular maintenance and I just wanted them to follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. They kept telling me that no one follows the maintenance schedule (!) because that's merely a recommendation and you have to do more. They said if you drove on the freeway regularly then that's not normal condition... I mean, I'm not a car mechanic but come on, I'm not that stupid. How many people have they fooled with these?
Since I didn't buy their sales they told me in this case they wouldn't reset the maintenance reminder in the car... since I know how to do that I did it myself but that's just childish. And how do I know they were wrong? First, as I said I'm not that stupid, second, recently I took the car to another place for the next maintenance and they said everything was good. Also, I would encourage everyone reading this to take a look at this:
And other websites and educate yourself a little bit about cars and don't just believe everything car mechanics say. Especially at this store.
Response:
Hello, they spelled my name wrong. Invoice number 45196. As I mentioned it was for regular maintenance (I guess you can call it a check up), I didn't say there were any recommendations on the invoice, this was a longer (4-5 minute) discussion before and as I paid. I am not sure what you call maintenance light, I wrote maintenance reminder, i.e. the car's dashboard displays "Maintenance required" and then codes if any. I specifically asked to please remove it since what I paid for was the maintenance itself and when I asked about it during the discussion the gentleman said no they hadn't removed it. He and another gentleman kept trying to convince me to do the oil change because it was only 50 bucks. I even showed them the maintenance and warranty booklet that clearly spelled no it was not needed (also see the link), but I explained this in the review. Anyway, l kept saying no I will think about it and after I paid I asked if they could reset it now and they didn't want to as they believed an additional oil change was necessary otherwise it's not a maintenance. Again, my problem was with the constant try to upsell (I know you have to push sales, but this much?) and that they rejected to reset what I asked for. Best

I didn't quite know what was wrong with my car. It was idling really low but wasn't triggering the check engine light. Being a woman, it's hard to find a reputable mechanic that won't try to rip you off. After searching on yelp, I decided on Mission Bay automotive as they have excellent reviews.
I took my car in and requested they assist in determining the cause. They were able to figure out what it was and get it fixed within two days. Since then, it has been running fabulously! In addition, they took the time to explain everything to me in a way I could understand. They were honest and reasonable. I will take my car back to them for any future needs.

Skill and integrity.
Thanks to Yelp, I found this shop a few years back. Since then, I've been extremely happy with their work. The repairs are done right and last.
Recently, our Honda pilot had a major air conditioning issue. The bill could've easily been $2500 based on the symptoms. An hour after dropping the car off, I got a call from Mission Bay Automotive. They found a bad solenoid which cost a couple of hundred dollars to fix.
I never worry about paying for unnecessary repairs here. Thanks MBA.

The other day my well-maintained car started making a spooky clunking sound at of course a super inconvenient time for a busy girl like me.
Of course barely knowing which side of the car my gas tank is on, I'm nervous to go to a new shop where I'm an easy target. When I first moved to San Diego, I wound up getting my oil changed at a super shady place run by crooks that tried to strike fear in me, so I was feeling grumpy and cynical about having to take my car in somewhere new again! Praying to the Yelp! gods for a miracle and an honest mechanic, I found Mission Bay Automotive.
I gave them a call and the guy on the phone was very cool and nice (wish I could give him props, but I had my defenses up, so I wasn't paying attention to his name at the time). He actually ran through their standard diagnostic fee, yada yada, and then said, "We really try not to rip you off." I half laughed and half thought that was code for: "We totally rip you off definitely for sure." Putting my faith in Yelp! reviews again and not wanting to be stranded on the freeway, I stopped in the next morning right at 8am and the place was PACKED. Long story short, great customer service, and they took pity on me having just finished my night shift and chauffeured me home in my own car even though they were slammed. I'm thinking like, Thank God, cause all Lyft drivers were busy and I was exhausted.
Here comes the best part: When Mike (defenses down by this point) called me to let me know what the problem was, he flat out said, "It's a lot of money for just an annoying sound that is not affecting the safety and drive-ability of your car. We were talking about it and none of us would spend $800+ on just a short annoying sound when the car starts." WHAT?! Do I need to clean my ears out? Did I hear this correctly? Talking me OUT of dropping almost a G into my almost 8 year old car (that I probably will trade in within a year anyway) for basically a non-issue? This kind of honesty is REALLY incredibly refreshing. (For reference: I trust my old mechanic back home, but I can bet he would have tried to convince me how nice it would be without the clunking for $800+ for sure.)
I'd totally rather blow $800+ on another trip to Hawaii anyway, so thanks for saving me from some overtime shifts, Mission Bay Automotive! You guys really know how to make a girl happy!
P.S. They ARE open on Saturdays, too!

My two kids and I were on a trip from SF when our front right headlight went out, another shop sent us to Mission Bay and God bless them! We purchased a headlight at the parts store and then went to Troy at Mission Bay. He said that he could fix it right away and proceeded to do so and would not let us pay for his services. We were in and out in 10 minutes and off to enjoy our vacation. There truly are wonderful folks out there! Thanks for your help!

I've been taking my car to Mission Bay for 5 years, even before they moved locations! Mike and Hector always make sure my car is in tip top condition. They are open and honest about their pricing and if they cant help you with a certain task, they recommend the best in San Diego. From anything as easy as an oil change or as complicated as a broken water pump, these guys know best. I've referred many people here and they also have had great experiences. I wouldn't dream of trusting any other business after I met these guys. So friendly, so caring, unbeatable pricing, and great service. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

WOW. This place is amazing and honest. Visiting San Diego from Vegas and noticed a leak from our SUV. With the kids and wife I did not want to take any chances trying to drive back to Vegas with a car that was not in perfect condition. Read the reviews and decided to bring the car in before we left.
Troy, the owner, came out and looked at the car and right away was able to diagnose that the leak I had been seeing was the humidity, " we don't have much humidity in Vegas." From the ac unit.
He took the vehicle in to inspect and make sure. I also had him check fluids and tires.
After a short amount of time they came out to inform me there were no leaks but my transmission was low. He showed me the fluid level and I asked that they go ahead and change it. However, he informed me that because we are on a trip that I should wait until I got back to Vegas to have it changed. (Apparently when you change fluids it could cause a leak.) Makes sense.
Troy did not charge me for the visit or the check. I am still amazed at how honest and nice this shop is.
I really wish they were located in Las Vegas. San Diego you truly have the best mechanic shop I have ever been too.

Buying my first car. I scheduled to have MBA inspect the car I was interested in after I test drove it for the first time. After I pulled up and told them what I was uneasy about from the drive, they took one look under the hood and told me it wasn't even worth inspecting. Charged me nothing and even taught me what to look for in the future.
So, caveat: I didn't actually get any mechanical work done; this review is based on honesty and customer service. The only thing that could stop me from bringing the next car I look at to MBA is distance.

I'm pretty sure I have never given a review on yelp but I thought this is the place to start. I found this place on Yelp years ago and I have always had excellent service.
Here's the thing, I am not from the west coast so I didn't have a mechanic I trusted. I am a female, and like most women, I assumed any auto shop would try to convince me more work needs to be done than necessary. Plus, I know little to nothing about cars.
That was not the situation here. These guys have always been kind, upfront, polite and completed the work quickly. They give me a heads up on all the extra issues my old car has but are never pushy about getting it taken care of.
While I might not know much about cars, I am a good judge of character and these guys are solid people running a great business.
Check them out.

I have been coming here since I started driving thanks to a recommendation from a friend who is also another loyal customer and, in the last nearly 20 years these guys, with Troy at the helm, are the best.
Not only is it obvious that Troy is good at hiring people (or whoever does the hiring) because the mechanics generally tend to stay around for many many years doing good work, but everyone is friendly and patient and I think all of this, including their quality work, is a sign that people are happily employed, which is always nice to see.
I have taken both of my cars (Toyotas) here in the last nearly twenty years, as well as recommended countless others, and I have never had or heard a complaint...only good things regardless of the make or model, from Asian cars, to American to German, new, old, and classsic.
Mission Bay Auto is as honest and skilled as they come - and if you are in a bind they will tell you what you absolutely need and what can wait. I can't recommend these guys enough!

I have finally found a truly honest shop to take all my vehicles to!
All the folks at Mission Bay Automotive are great. From the time you come through the door until you leave happy, you are treated like family (the ones you like)
Diagnostics are the most critical part of getting your problems fixed. The guys at MBA are the most highly trained and skilled mechanics I have ever had the privilege to work with.
I had quite a list of things my poor old truck needed. They gave me a complete list and went on to show me which things MUST be fixed and which can wait. You can even tell them what you can afford and they will prioritize the items that can be fixed within your budget.
I love that I have found a place I can trust to not rip me off!
Their prices are VERY reasonable for top notch and first rate repairs and service.

I recently took my 2007 BMW 650i to Mission Bay Auto as it was squeaking very loud when I would turn it on. Immediate assessment showed oil leaking in various locations. Once diagnosis was complete, it turned out to be a bad vacuum pump along with a few other issues.
I was extremely impressed with how quickly the issue was diagnosed, time taken to repair and total cost of service. The crew at Mission Bay are professional and trustworthy. Mike took me back to my car and explained the details of what had to be done, showed me the bad parts, and took his time making sure I was comfortable with all of the work that had to be done. Tyler did an amazing job of fixing everything and being detailed oriented in the process. I was very pleased that he is more of a perfectionist than I am.
The shop itself is very clean and well organized with a nice waiting room. The new location is easy to access. The owner takes pride in every detail of his business.
I will definitely take my car back and will recommend this place to my friends and family.

Super friendly people and extremely helpful! I know nothing about cars and I'm sure it is obvious and I did not feel like they were trying to trick me into paying for random services. They seemed like they really cared about my well being in my car! I went in with a groupon for an oil change and they were very thorough with a full check of my cars tires and lights with no extra charge! I will definitely be coming back with any car troubles.

After weeks of trying to figure out ( ourselves ) what the problem was with our Chevy Silverado..we gave up and took our truck to Mission Bay Automotive. The owner Troy was great!!! He found the problem quickly and took care of us. Its really hard to trust a mechanic because they can pretty much rip you off very easily.
But I felt these guys are honest and trust worthy. The price was great and service was awesome!! We found our honest mechanic.

I still stop by for random work, and they are still amazing. Borrowing from another Yelper: "I want honesty, reliability and someone who doesn't look like they'd rather be anywhere else than where they are and that's what I got here."
These guys have done everything for me, from quick oil changes to larger stuff, and I love them for it. Four thumbs up; I'll never go anywhere else.

I've had to take my car in twice and took it to Mission bay auto both times. The second time was a large job. These guys kept me updated and stayed after hours to have my car done for me so I wasn't without a vehicle with 2 kids. They are very respectful and honest. I'll keep going back to them if need be.

All good things must come to an end, after a great relationship for 5+ years MB Automotive had a move and a major renovation complete with shiny new bays, polished front desk with several computers, a new waiting room with flat screen tv, etc...my use to be my neighborhood auto repair shop is now the corporate, overpriced unfriendly shop that are a dime a dozen. Tried to charge me today for a brake check that was always complimentary in the past. Even our go to guy there was gone as well, onto the next one. Thankfully, a friend turned us onto PB Foreign on Garnet in PB, family owned hole in the wall shop with free brake check, great customer service and no frills.

I have taken my car to Mission Bay Automotive for my routine oil changes as well as your normal wear and tear that come along with owning an older car. One thing to note is that Joe, who works the front desk, is awesome and a pleasure to speak with each and every time I come in. We know each other on a first name basis and he conducts himself with the utmost professional attitude and is a pleasure to be around.
All the mechanics are extremely insightful and willing to take the time to explain what exactly is going on with your vehicle, what was the potential cause, and most importantly how it can be fixed. Not to mention they are reasonably priced, which my bank account greatly appreciates.
I have been to a number of mechanics before and I can honestly say that these guys are the best! As long as I am here in San Diego, I will continue going to Mission Bay Automotive.

I came here at the recommendation of my brother. He said they are ethical and they do great work. Well ethical in the car repair business is rare... so I drove the distance to give them a try and I am so glad I did.
I came in because a check light came on and I was about to leave to go on a camping trip. The really nice guy (I am super sorry I forgot his name since this was a year ago and I just started yelping) told me what the light meant and that I was safe to go camping and to just bring the car back upon my return. No charge for that advice.
Wow! I left to go camping feeling safe about my car and made an appointment when I returned. They also arranged for my windshield to be replaced at the same time since I had just gotten a crack in it!
Great guys, great service, I am here for life!

Save your money , they said they can change my transmission fluid so I dropped my car off the next night as we planned over the phone. Then that morning even after I left a note and had talked to them on what to do and not to do they could NOT do the transmission flush and still charged me 56$ for them to look at my car and say to me what I had on the note already saying not to do. They gave me an estimate for an axel that I got done for 100$ cheaper Elsewhere

This WAS my mechanic before they moved. And being that I am a women, I am very careful and particular about where I go, to avoid getting ripped off.
I called a couple weeks back to get a quote for break service, and I was surprised at the poor service just over the phone. I can't imagine how it would've been if I actually showed up there.
Needless to say I don't think I will be coming back after that conversation!

The customer service here is PHENOMENAL! Every nice thing written about Joe is true x 10. When it comes to getting my car fixed even for an oil change, a fancy wait room isn't what I'm looking for. I want honesty, reliability and someone who doesn't look like they'd rather be anywhere else than where they are and that's what I got here.
Efficient, friendly, accommodating are all words that I would use to describe Mission Bay Automotive. I'm always hesitant about anything to do with my car for fear that I'll fall for the upsell or worse, be lied to. I bought a deal for several oil changes, which led me to the place, so I was coming for an oil change alone and wasn't pressured into five other things that I "might" need. Also, even though they were winding down their day and still busy, they checked my brakes (my light had been on for awhile). Easy fix of filling up the brake fluid and telling me how much I had left on my brakes.
I was told that if my brakes had needed fixed, I could leave my keys in their overnight drop box or they would actually drive me to the airport the next day (I was leaving town) if needed. Joe kept giving scenarios to work around MY schedule. Also, he let me know what the "worst case scenario" would be price wise, which is something I always ask for to prepare. Luckily, it was just the brake fluid and the guy who actually had checked my brakes (Hector?) said, "Do you wanna hear the good news or bad news first?" I said, bad and he laughed and said, "Well, there IS no bad news."
I highly recommend this place due to their service and friendly ease with customers. I was not surprised to come to Yelp and see they already have five stars. If you're looking for a new auto repair place, I would recommend here. One note: They aren't open on the weekends, but are open until 6pm during the week.

My check engine light came on so I went to my Ford dealer for a diagnostic reading. The dealer said in order to fix it I'd need to replace my air intake system and valves and that my lines were corroded and need to be cleaned out or replaced. Estimated price was around $1200. Knowing that dealers usually charge more, I called around to other shops and they all averaged out to a $600 price range.
I decided to chose Mission Bay auto because it was close to my home.
I am very happy I chose them, great customer service ( shoutout to Joe and Troy) They called me a couple of hours later saying my lines weren't corroded and didn't need replacing, and that they should be able to fix my problem just by replacing a valve instead of the whole system. They were right! My engine light stayed off and the car is running great. And the final cost came out to be around $300. I even made myself vulnerable by asking if there was anything else wrong with my car because I wanted to just get it all taken care of now and not have to worry about it for awhile. They said nothing stood out but they would go look at it one more time. They came back and said no, my car sounded and looked really good for a car with 120,000 miles on it.
I have been back since for oil changes and so far I'm very satisfied with this place and happy to refer to them as "my mechanic".

I picked Mission Bay Automotive for an engine steam clean based on great Yelp reviews and I wasn't disappointed. The people there were so nice, I felt very comfortable there. They even saw to it I got home so I could take care of errands while they were working on my truck. And then they picked me up again. My steam cleaned engine sparkled and so did my pocketbook, because there was still some money left in it!
I'll be going back to have some serious work done on my truck. And in spite of the fact I know I'm going to have to spend some money, I'm looking forward to it.

Came to these guys in January for an oil change, finished in 30 minutes, just went back today for another, and a 39k miles inspection, done in 70 minutes. I paid 108 (inspection) + 50 (synthetic oil change, provided my own oil and air filter.) 158. If I had gone to a ford dealership, it would've been 400!
Awesome guys, totally recommend. Get there early they become busy by 930am.

Came here for an oil change because of all the great reviews. Joe was super friendly and entertaining in the office and didn't push me to buy new tires even though I desperately needed them. They have free WiFi, which is GREAT. A standard oil change with no discounts/coupons only took 25 minutes and cost only $40.51. I will be back!
Later in the day, Joe actually gave me a call and let me know about a tire special another automotive service center was offering. He saw a coupon in the mail and let me know, even though it meant directing business to a competitor! These guys really are here for the customer's best interest.

I tired to get service. After 30 or 40 minutes of me waiting around - I ENDED the waiting.
I had called and spoke to the owner guy, he said "Sure, come on down".
I get there and look for a sliver of asphalt to leave my car but this place looks like a used car lot, stacks and stacks of cars!
I go in and say hello "I just spoke to you...." he scurries away on his head set to take another call. I wait. And wait. And while waiting to be asked to fill out paperwork so they could get going on my car, another gal came in who had also just gotten off the phone with him (too).
She was speaking with them then I heard her say "I wish you had just told me you won't be able to get to my car today" He replied, "Well I tired to hint at you . If you want to leave your car here for Monday, I'll be able to look at it then." She decided to leave- After 30 or 40 minutes of me waiting around and NOT getting a commitment from him - I ENDED IT too.
This place has about 50 more cars than mechanics. Unorganized, unable to commit or follow through. Not enough mechanics, not enough asphalt for all the cars stacked up.

By far one of the best auto shops I have been to in San Diego.
I have a 2003 BMW M3 and since I am out of warranty, the prices for maintenance are ridiculous. For my Inspection II, I was charged 1600 dollars at the BMW dealership for basically changing some fluids. Oh yeah, they did wash my car.
I take it to Mission Bay, and I end up paying less than 500 dollars, and with better customer service. Granted, no car wash, but I don't mind pocketing the extra 800 dollars and getting the car washed somewhere else.
I've had minor problems with the BMW which is expected because it is nine years old, but all were fixed by Mission Bay promptly with decent prices.

Mission Bay Automotive was one of the best Auto repair places I've ever been. The staff was friendly, fair, informative and kind. I took my Honda CRV in due to a check engine light and they were excellent at explaining the problems and what was necessary to be done. They were available and transparent with their work plans throughout the process and gave me a fair price for the repairs. I HIGHLY recommend taking your car here if you have ANY repairs you need done!

I have to say the Five Star Yelp reviews on Mission Bay Automotive are indeed correct. We have an Infiniti G35 and my wife took it to a dealer and they told her that we had a cracked oil pan that would cost $1500 to $2000. We ended up taking our car to Mission Bay Automotive and they fixed the car for under $600.. Turns out the dealer lied about the cracked oil pan and we only had to fix a few items. We will be returning to Mission Bay Automotive. We are very happy to take our car to a repair shop and not have to worry about sketchy mechanics any more..

I'm not sure why I'm even writing this review since everyone and their mom has already said how amazing it is. The firs time I came here, I left kind of depressed because I had to go work afterward and I wished that I enjoyed being at work like Joe seemed to enjoy his job. I hope he gets paid well because he is single-handedly taking this shop to a level that no other can beat. Yeah, he's that nice.
Aside from the customer service, they do their job well. I am in the habit of not believing mechanics. I even got wiped clean of all my change from a mechanic once. But what he says is true. He said I didn't have juice left in my battery. I figured I could hold off a while longer. Yeah a month later it was dead and I was walking down the street to the automotive store to buy a battery.
He'll even squeeze you in for an appointments when you have special circumstances. He really seems to realize that you have your own life and you don't need to be stressed at the mechanic's.

I ran into MBA with a living social deal that gave me 3 oil changes for $30 for couple different auto repair shops in the area. I chose MBA since they had pretty good reviews. and of course, there's a reason that this place has average rating of 5 stars with +50 reviews.. they're simply amazing. as a female that has no clue about cars (other than it gets me from point A to point B), i hate taking my car to mechanics because i'm always afraid that they'll take advantage of me. I don't feel that way at all when I go to Mission Bay Automotive. Like all other yelpers have stated, they get an A++++ for customer service. Joe is amazing. He almost recruited me to work for them (not really) and bugged me about not bringing him coffee. I appreciate the small talk! Usually when I go to other mechanics, I'm sitting alone in a dirty room with few couches, twiddling my thumb.
The place is a bit hard to find if you're unfamiliar with stupid Morena Blvd. The building is this beige color that blends into everything else around the area (maybe they need a bigger and brighter sign? idk) They're not open on weekends, which sucks but hey, everyone deserves their time off. I've gotten my oil changed twice and they replaced my door handle because I broke it off. Both times they were efficient and had my car ready when they said it would be. I would trust them for other things too (but it just happens that any other "big" fixes on my car requires the permission/money of my parents haha) Thanks Mission Bay Automotive!

Hands down - BEST - car service I've ever received!
My dad is a mechanic on the east coast so turning over my car to someone I didn't know was a little nerve wracking and this place definitely did a great job. Probably even better than my dad --- shhh! Don't tell him!
They took the time to check multiple things on my car and gave me an honest answer on what needed to be fixed and what was worth MY money. What car place actually is concerned about you saving money? This one. My boyfriend drove me there and asked them about an airbag light in his car that had been on and they looked at it - for free.
Seriously - best customer service and
care I've had in San Diego.

I can't begin to tell you how great these guys are! Where to begin ... These guys are by far the friendliest and most honest mechanics I've ever come across! EVERYONE there is extremely friendly and laid back, accommodating, honest, and you can tell that they really enjoy being there and doing what they do. from what I understand they are a family owned business and I was on a first name basis with everyone that dealt w/ me. They seem to genuinely want to make sure that your happy and will go that extra mile to get the job done--sometimes even paying for expenses out of there own pocket when it's convenient for them (and you)! They really know there stuff, and--bottom line--they'll get your problem fixed! A good and honest car mechanic, in my opinion is extremely valuable, and these guys seem to be both of those things! Anyway, I want to say more about my own personal experience but don't have a lot of time at the moment ... But will try to write more later when I get a chance ... But definitely 5 out of 5 stars!

I've never been so entertained while waiting for my car to be finished. Joe kept me laughing for the four hours or so that it took to work on my car, and I didn't even mind the wait. It feels nice to do business with honest people and you can tell that nobody's trying to be deceiving at Mission Bay Automotive. I came in for an inspection, as it had been some time since my car had received any service. Joe and the crew broke down the needed repairs and prioritized them based on importance and my budget. Sick car fixed; I will rate after I drive it for a week or so. But customer service gets an A++ & I thought it was going to be a lot more than it was! Didn't fix the problem; disappointed
UPDATE 11/8/12:
In MBA's defense I could have called them back & let them know i was still having the same issue; (but you know how it goes; you get frustrated!) it was; however, even difficult for another mechanic to duplicate the problem also...so i am changing my rating to 4 stars...wasnt really their fault when they didnt have a second chance & everyone deserves a second chance!! Like i said their customer service def gets an A++; Troy actually saw the post and took the time to respond & wanted to make it right...what a stand up guy (def a RARITY!!)...If i do have needs again I would def use them again! This is the best shop in San Diego, hands down. If you're a car guy/gal, you know how hard it is to find honest service. I would let my girlfriend, mom, sister, or lady friends bring their cars here with confidence. There's some Tammy G lady on here saying that these guys "rip off females", left a 1-star review because she felt a $36 oil change was ridiculously expensive, and felt her tire rotation should have been free!? NOT TO MENTION in her own review she complained her car wasn't ready at 3:15pm when she even said she was expected at 4pm!? Tammy, you are an idiot. Take your shitty attitude to jiffy lube and enjoy a McDonalds dollar menu item with your cheap ass. Look at all the other 5-star reviews and make your own decision people!

These guys are professional and very nice!
Just a few days before leaving San Diego to return to San Francisco we realized that our car was leaking coolant liquid. We searched for a mechanic at yelp, found the reviews really promising and decided to just stop by at Mission Bay Automotive unannounced to ask for an appointment.
Not only did they have a look at our car immediately, they repaired it on the same day too!
And it was not just a 5 minute problem. Turns out that the radiator was leaking so the whole part had to be replaced which takes more than two hours.
We can highly recommend these guys at Mission Bay Automotive!

This place is always packed! And for good reason. They do excellent work, have friendly, personable employees, and get the work done in a reasonable amount of time.
We first came here to get used cars inspected before purchasing, and I'm glad we did! One of their workers buys and sells cars on the side, and he was able to assess the worth of the car without even knowing what the dealer was asking. He told us a bottom line price, and that made for a great guideline and bargaining chip.
Since then, we've been taking our cars back there for routine oil changes and other work. It's always pleasant talking with Joe at the front desk. I recommend Mission Bay Automotive to anyone that lives close!

I have been to Mission Bay Automotive twice now and Joe and company have always been nice, professional, and funny. It was the Yelp reviews that first got me to give them a chance (Thanks, Yelpers!).
These guys know what they're doing. I'm no car expert, but I was able to follow their explanation as to what was wrong with my car and how they fixed it. The cost for my last visit was very good and reasonable. My boyfriend and I thought it would've been so much more. Hector (who helped us last) joked, "We could add another hundred or so." Ha ha! Hector mentioned that he was the one who drove and tested my car over and over again to make sure all was well again. Very reassuring!
The owner is really cool, too, if you ever get to meet him. His office is like a museum for his son and his accomplishments. It was obvious he was so dedicated to his business because he explained he was supposed to be home already for Christmas break to prepare for a trip, but even after I left, he was still there checking the codes on my car.
This place is also across the street from Sardina's, an awesome Italian restaurant we ate at after picking up my car. Total win-win!

I had a mechanic I loved up in Encinitas, but it just got too far of a drive. So I went on yelp and read all the great reviews and made my decision to give it a shot.
I was buying a used car and needed it checked out before I made a decision on it. Joe was able to squeeze us in rather last minute. (Joe is way awesome, in general!) It was worth the price (a mere $67 bucks!) to give the car a complete inspection. They found that the timing belt was cracked AND the trans needed to be flushed. They could also help me figure out a ballpark range of how much it would be worth. I decided not to go with that car, and am thankful that I had their insight into what the car was worth. That could have been a BAD mistake!
I took the next car in as well. They gave it the thumbs up and I confidently bought the car knowing that not only did I have a good price, but that the car was safe and in good condition.
I thank them for their professionalism and courteousness. It made my car buying experience significantly better. The next time I need a mechanic, I'm going here!

IF YOU'RE FEMALE DON'T COME HERE, THEY'LL TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU.
I came in one morning to get an oil change. The guy at the front desk told me the oil change would cost me $36. I thought that was already really pricey, but they had such great reviews I decided to go ahead with the work. I told the guy at the front desk that I would need my tires rotated as well. He informed me that they would look at them, and see if I needed to get them rotated. I told him he I would be back at 4pm at the latest and he informed me my car would definitely be ready.
I returned at about 3:15pm and a different guy was at the front desk. My oil change wasn't completed (and had probably not even been started because he needed 5 more minutes) and all of a sudden they wanted to charge me $56. Seriously, $56 FOR A FREAKING OIL CHANGE?!
I informed the guy at the front desk that that price was RIDICULOUS and there was no way I was paying that. He tried to tell me it was because I needed synthetic oil, please. That is such nonsense. Once he realized that I wasn't just going to give in his crap, he looked apologetic, and told me that he would make a phone call and see if he could reduce the price. Cough. He made that phone call and all of a sudden the cost of my oil change went back down to $36.
He also noticed I was pretty upset, told me he was "really sorry", and tried to make it up to by telling me I could bring my back and he'd rotate the tires for free. The tire rotation should have been free in the first place.
No thanks. I will no longer trust anyone at Mission Bay Automotive with my car.

These guys are the real deal!!!! Props to JOE for being a super nice guy. He's the kind of person you want looking after your car.
Long story short, I had a transmission problem that I was worried would cost me thousands to fix. I even had it semi-fixed 2 months ago that cost me $280 from a different hack mechanic. Problem not solved. Car was still not functioning properly.
I took it in to MBA this morning. Joe took a look at it right away. They ran a diagnostic, took 10 minutes and gave me an estimated quote for $95. Sweet!
I got a ride home to PB, awesome perk.
Took them a few hours to check it out, total cost to fix, $114.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!
I would recommend these guys to my Sister and Mom and friends.
Best experience EVER! Thanks Joe and Troy and the older gentleman who drove me home!

The mechanic I have gone to all my life recently went out of business. They were a great group of guys who were always honest and kept my car running perfectly! Last week was the first time I needed to go to a new place and I was extremely hesitant. I had an AWFUL day at the mechanic I went to in Clairemont. I went in for a simple oil change and they told me I needed so much done to my car that it'd cost be over $1,000 to fix it all. I left because I didn't have the time or money ... plus they proceeded to tell me I wasn't smart for not fixing these things right away and leaving because it was too dangerous to be on the road. They seriously made it sound like I was going to die.
I was ready to give up, but I went on YELP to find a top-rated mechanic. I read all of these reviews for Mission Bay Automotive and everything the 5-star people say is true. Joe greeted me and joked with me and was so down to earth. He LISTENED to what I had to say without cutting me off and calmed me down enough to trust that they would inspect my car to see if there actually WERE problems. I made an appointment for the next day and they let me know about every update. Joe informed me that I DIDN'T need all of the repairs the other mechanic had told me I needed. After a thorough inspection, he and two other guys working on my Xterra said only one of the things needed to be replaced (3 of my belts), but that everything else had time on it. He wrote down how much time I had left on my tires and everything else. Not only were they HONEST with me (a 27 year old woman who has NO idea about cars), but they charged me less than what the other place was going to charge. I am SO thankful I found this place and thankful for all of the great and honest reviews on YELP to help make my decision. This is my first review ... I never write them, but their customer service blew me away and I am more than happy to help them in any way I can! Seriously, if you're looking for a mechanic who isn't going to give you a bunch of bull ... (AND LADIES: Who WON'T take advantage of you!!!) go see Joe and his crew! They really are the best and are now MY mechanic!

My wonderful Yelpers, once again you have earned my thanks, almost as many thanks as Troy from Mission Bay Automotive! Along with my thanks, they've earned a loyal customer for the duration of my time living in San Diego.
Fast, friendly, affordable service and - because it matters - I wasn't treated like some girl who didn't know squat about her car. I think it's also nice to note that the other customers were as friendly as the staff, which speaks to the quality of the service and the lack of a stressful atmosphere you often find at mechanic shops.
I've never liked taking my car to the dealership for service and now I finally have a mechanic I'm comfortable enough with that I don't fee the need to bring my car to the dealership at all.
Thanks Mission Bay Automotive!!

These guys are life savers, they really helped me in a bind. I was vacationing in San Diego with my daughter; after coming across the 111 degree desert, there was a concerning whine from the engine (Subaru). I asked a waitress if she had a mechanic she trusted, and she told us about Mission Bay Automotive. Even though the guys had several jobs going, they instantly came out of the office, listened to my engine and began diagnostics. They arranged to have us transported to the beach so we wouldn't miss a day of surfing, and they repaired the alternator belt, etc. within a couple of hours and picked us up. The bill was only $155, way less than I know I'd have paid at home. They were friendly, interested in us, and we got to know several of the guys. Joe, Mike, John, Troy, and everyone else - THANKS SO MUCH!!!
I'm not sure why anyone would complain, maybe a bad day for that individual. But this is a shop to trust. I've got a lifter tick in my Cherokee; I'm tempted to drive all the way back to have them pull the head and fix it!

These guys are amazing!!!! Seriously, 5 stars isn't enough. I discovered them a couple years ago on accident (lucky me!) and I will never go anywhere else. Joe at the front desk is super nice and fun to deal with, and for someone like me who knows nothing about cars, I always feel confident that I am never being overcharged or given a false estimation of the problem. The prices are always very reasonable, and today they even fixed a dent in my bumper for free! Thank you so much everybody at Mission Bay Auto! You guys have a customer for life!

As I figured 5 Stars from so many other people! I came here after being recommended to Mission Bay Automotive from a friend. They had great customer service and I felt confident in the work they did. My car is running great. I came here after having a bad experience at a popular automotive repair shop in La Mesa who charged me $50 just to tell me that once they "go in" they don't know what other charges or problems they would find, and that they thought it was something completely different. Anyhow, I will be recommending Mission Bay to anyone who is having car issues and will be back as soon as my car takes another $***! Hopefully not too soon ;)

It was my first time taking my truck to this shop. I went to 2 other shops to get estimates first and I ended up with MB Automotive because they just made me feel more confident that they knew what they were doing. They answered all my questions with knowledge and patience and trust me I ask a whole lot of questions. Joe was very customer service orientated. In short they saved me around $500 compared to the estimate I got from that other shop down the street that has 2 A's an M and a CO. I now understand why there are always so many cars at their shop; It's because honest mechanics that know what they are doing are very hard to find. Will definately take my vehicles to this shop in the future.

If you are a female GO HERE! I agree with Kimba. I first went here because of a living social deal. I went for a free oil change but knew something else had to get done on the car. As a New Englander I know a rattling sound. Well turns out they knew more, which is exactly what I needed. They fixed the problem and recommended, without being pushy, other issues that needed to be fixed. Joe gave me a time frame and I followed up getting a new timing belt, etc since my car has hit the lovely 100.000 mile mark. I love this place, although traffic is a (fill in the blank) coming from downtown around 4pm. But that is beside the point, I have respect for everyone who works at Mission Bay Automotive and so does my father!!! If you need something done to your car it is always a good idea to 'shop around' but now that I have found my spot I do not feel the need to.

The crew is really, really nice. REALLY nice.
My car had transmission problems both before and after the guys here rebuilt my transmission. I will say that they worked hard to fix the problems AFTER the rebuild, which was great...I just wish there hadn't been problems in the first place. It was a $2500 investment that ended up ok, but not without about 3 weeks of bringing my car in every other day.

Top repair and service station in San Diego! Just got my car back from an electrical problem I couldn't put my fingers on. Turned out to be a "simple" alternator replacement but they called and clearly confirmed the price for the part and the job. No hidden fees or bullshit. The invoice also stated time and date of the phone call where I approved the job and at what price. Complete honesty and maximum professionalism. They seem happy to do what they do and they do it exceptionally well. I will definitely return next time I just need either a minor regular service or oil change or some major repair if I'm unlucky enough. Either way, you feel safe to leave your vehicle in the hands of these guys! They know what service is!

Had a great experience with MB Auto today. My Saab started smoking from the tail pipe and engine today. I spotted MB Auto on my way home (I had never been there before) and pulled in. I was immediately greeted by Joe who offered to squeeze me in even though he had others cars in the shop. After he topped up the oil and transmission fluids and checked some pipes under the hood, the car was still smoking which indicated a more serious problem. When I told him I usually go to another Saab shop (about 10 miles away), he agreed that it was best to have Saab experts take a look at it, rather than trying to get my business. He recommended that I tow the car to the Saab shop rather than drive it to be on the safe side since I had my daughter with me. Great advice.
Throughout the whole visit, Joe was very helpful, never made me feel like an idiot that my car was smoking and didn't charge me for the inspection or the oil and transmission fluid. I will be bringing my other car to him for future oil changes and check-ups. Thanks MB Auto for being a great neighbor!

I moved to San Diego last year and was looking for a good, affordable and honest mechanic. I asked around and several friends recommended Mission Bay Automotive. I came in at the last minute for a quick oil change and was pleasantly surprised to find that ,despite the heavy amount of business they were clearly dealing with, I was still in and out within twenty minutes.
Everyone there was very friendly and made me feel incredibly comfortable. They noticed that my tires were a little worn and did me the favor of looking up the cost and letting me go with no pressure to get tires from them versus someone else; just the promise to give me the best deal they could. After calling around, I found that they were in fact offering me the best deal. I would highly recommend them.

Ok, I don't know how else to put it. Mission Bay Automotive is literally the best independent shop in San Diego bar none. Now now... I know that all of you have "your mechanic", or you this uncle, or this cousin, or this boyfriend of your best friend, well forget it - Troy and the crack team of techs and mechanics rock.
Mission Bay Automotive was recommended to me by an ex. At first I was dubious as she was an ex, but I was in a bind and was brand new to San Diego. The final selling point that she said to me before I went was a bit back handed so here it goes, she said, "Troy is great and honest, and unlike most shops he doesn't screw over women and over charge them, so you should be okay."
I will get to the one and only downer out of the way, no loaner cars, etc, I have never asked if they will give you a reasonable ride somewhere, that is worth looking into.
Troy is awesome, a stand up honest guy. About two years ago I took my Ford truck into his shop with clear transmission problems. I had been to a dealer and another independent shop earlier in the week - both are shops that shall remain nameless - and both shops told me that I needed to get a new transmission.
I roll into Troy's shop. He tells me that he will take a look at it. About three hours later, my rig was fixed and it cost me a whopping $89 bucks. The other shops either didn't know what they were talking about, or more than likely were just crooks.
I have used Troy to take a look at used cars that I was considering as well. He charges a flat fee for this service and gives you the skinny on the car.
I can't say enough about Troy and his shop... so I think that I will just stop.

This is the first Yelp review. I got a 1995 Honda Passport from the guy who gave it to me, and he mentioned he takes it here.
I went for minor issues, got excellent customer service and feedback, and I have never looked back.. Heck I will tow it from anywhere to get it to Troy. He is honest, efficient and the nicest guy..
He always tells you everything about the car and will not fix unnecessary things on it, unless you ask.
He is damn cheap too.. I never met a mechanic this honest and straight forward before.
I also never had to take my truck back for any work done.
Joe is an excellent Dude too. Love him

Great guys. On vacation in San Diego afternoon before we had a 12 hour drive home. Our car had random trouble starting. They spent a good deal of time trying to find problem and researching potential issues. Ran out of time and they couldn't find problem, as of course the car was starting perfectly every time for them. Didn't charge me a dime for their time or advice.

A few years ago I was from out of town and broke down at the beach (timing belt). My AAA tow truck driver was taking me to the Dodge dealership and told me I'd get the shaft there, he would take me to his guy. At this point I was pretty nervous, but we went to MBA and Troy came right out, diagnosed the problem, found out my out of town predicament and put me in front of the usual traffic. He gladly offered to pick me up at my hotel later to bring me back to his shop, actually refusing to let me get a cab. He could have completely gouged me and the price was more than fair.
I have now moved to SD and will be taking my cars there exclusively, even though I live way up in north county. Completely trustworthy and fair.

We live in Central Valley Calif and were on our way to San Diego when our Chevy Blazer had car problems. We had it towed from Oceanside to Mission Bay Automotive cuz our daughter had lived in SD for awhile and this was the shop she used. We had been there once before and met Joe, the mechanic supervisor/scheduler? We called ahead of time, it was 730am and spoke to Joe and he said to bring it over, he would def work us in, he remembers my daughter as a customer. The mechanic was able to fix the problem and this shop does not price gouge! Very honest and reasonable. Had to wait around for a short while so I was able to observe how this shop runs. Very professionally run! Kudos to Joe and all the mechanics!!

If my car broke down in Los Angeles I would have it towed to Mission Bay Automotive. That is how strongly I feel about their service and their ethics. In addition to their trustworthiness, they are very careful about who they hire and their mechanics are the very best. Joe, the office manager, is so competent, helpful, and pleasant and, Troy, the owner, is such an honest businessman. He refuses to do work that doesn't need to be done. You will not get ripped off at MBA EVER! I have been taking my car there for at least a decade and have never had a bad experience.
Just recently I took my car to Mossey Nissan in Kerney Mesa for a warranty inspection. They fixed one item that was still under warranty but sent me home with a list of things that needed attention. I took the list to MBA and, as it turns out, only one item on the list needed attention and that was a radiator service. I had been told by Mossey Nissan that my shocks were leaking when, in fact, they were not leaking at all. Having that job done at Mossey Nissan would have cost me $390.00 dollars. And, I repeat, there was no leak! I was told a filter was dirty. When shone the filter by MBA, there was hardly any dirt at all on it, and there is more. But, the point is that if you are looking for a place that you can trust implicitly, Mission Bay Automotive is the place. I recommend them without hesitation and always refer my friends there.
Joe, Troy, and all of the mechanics are just the most awesome people. They are kind, friendly, trustworthy and competent, and, going there is always a first class experience.

How would you feel if your brakes stopped working and you were on vacation with your three kids and stranded??? Yep, pretty bad.
Fortunately, someone smiled on us and we were guided to Mission Bay Automotive. Joe and the guys there ROCK! They immediately helped us late in the day and were able to diagnose the problem, find brake pads made by the dealer and replaced my brake pads in a very timely manner.
They were polite, honest, caring and completely helpful! If I lived in San Diego I would ALWAYS go there...sadly for me, I live 9 hours away!

The best auto repair I've been to in San Diego. Every time I've been here, they treat me fairly and nicely (sometimes more than fairly!)
I knew my brake pads needed replacing so I went in and they were able to take my car right away. Joe had to get the part from a nearby wholesaler so he gave me a rough estimate after calling that place. He didn't charge me for sending someone over there to go get the part and bring it back. I agreed to the price for the part and labor and took off.
That same afternoon, the car was ready. When I came to pick it up, he told me that the part was cheaper than he had thought by 30% and charged me only what he paid for it. He could have pocketed the difference and I wouldn't have known but Mission Bay Automotive isn't shady like that.
Every subsequent visit has also been good. I even recommended it to one of my friends and she won't go anywhere else now.
Today, I went in for a busted headlight. I felt kind of silly for going in to for something so small but I couldn't get to the light housing without tools. They took charge of my problem right away and fixed it within 15 minutes.

My battery died on Sunday morning (at the time, wasn't sure if it was battery, starter, alternator, or???). My wife called, and luckily, someone was in the office on Sunday and said to have it dropped off, and they'd look at it first thing Monday morning.
I had to fly out of state on Monday for business, and the guys were kind enough to drive my car all the way back up to San Marcos for my wife after replacing the battery. Amazing service!
Definitely recommend Mission Bay Automotive, wish it was closer to me to use for regular maintenance.

Five stars, no question!
I've found my mechanic! They really do live up to their five stars reputation. I don't write reviews very much but Mission Bay Automotive definitely deserves one. Best service I've had hands down. From the moment I stepped into the lot to picking up my car. I brought in my 2007 328i which I don't trust putting in the hands of just anyone yet don't want to pay the ridiculous dealership's price. However these guys are great. So here goes my review. It's lengthy but that's cause I can't say enough great things about them.
First off, Joe is the man! He's friendly, funny, and HONEST. These guys are entertaining. I would say this auto shop is respectable for it's friendly atmosphere, honesty, and pristine auto work. He told me what I needed and other things that could be fixed later so I had the option of not causing a dent in my wallet. No added scamming service you would find elsewhere. The price here is great! I had my oil and filter changed, installation of all 4 very needed new tires, window regulator installed, and my brake and battery inspected. They made sure I got the best bang for my bucks. They weren't pushy salesman either. Just very honest, good mechanics.
The shop was very accommodating and punctual. They're service was impeccable. Never had a problem contacting them, getting updates, or getting questions answered. My car ran like a beauty! They kept my car clean and vacuumed. The little things do count especially when it comes to my Beamer.
Highly recommend Mission Bay Automotive to everyone and anyone! Can't thank you guys enough. Will be back soon for all my services.

Phenomenal! I've seen Troy fix peoples cars for free that their dealership wanted to charge them $500 for! AMAZING! The most Ethicial Honest mechanic in San diego! I've been going there for 7 years.

I rarely trust anyone to work on my Dodge Charger RT and refuse to go to the dealership. Mission Bay Automotive was highly recommended by a fellow rider. So, I thought I would give them a chance. I must say, I was very impressed. They were very professional, prompt with diagnostics and did not overcharge. I first told Joe that I might have an issue with my steering column since it was leaking. Within 15 min, Dave was able to tell me that it was not the steering column that was leaking. He said, whoever did my oil change last, did not remove the old oil filter gasket, and just placed a new one in without checking. The gasket blew, which then unsealed my oil filter, and caused the oil to splatter all over my engine bay. I thank Valvoline for F'n up my car. The trip to Mission Bay Automotive cost me an oil change, which I needed anyways. But, what I really want say is, thank you Joe for great customer service, Dave for the job well done and Troy for restoring my faith to the local mechanics. I had an awesome experience. I highly recommend this shop to anyone.

I recently had a $2600 repair on my Mercedes SUV after which a burning smell developed under the hood. I took the car back to the original shop, they kept it for two days and basically said that I needed to have my engine steam-cleaned before they could determine the problem. They charged me for this analysis.
At wit's end, I read some reviews on yelp and drove the car over to Mission Bay Automotive. They were incredible! They diagnosed the source of the leak in 15 minutes at no charge, and I went back to the place that had done the original work where they agreed to fix the problem under warranty. They only agreed to do so after I was armed with info from MBA. Needless to say, I plan to go back to MBA for all future work on my car. Joe and Chris, the mechanic, were amazing. I was not asked to write a review on yelp and it's a pain to do so, but Mission Bay Automotive deserves all the business they can get.

This place is great! I have been bombarded with car problems these past few months (Honda with 180k miles on it). And after taking my car to two other mechanics to fix a random overheating problem, Mission Bay finally figured it out for a fair price. I have been scammed by a few mechanics in my day and I cannot express how much I appreciate businesses like Mission Bay Automotive. They are exemplary of utmost integrity in the automotive industry. As a result, they are ALWAYS busy. It does pay off. Being honest and straightforward with people that don't know anything about cars is the key. I don't want to know what may break in the future. I drive a car with freakin' 180k miles on it, of course things are worn out, but the staff at Mission Bay understands that and they simply tell me what I need to do immediately versus later. And guess what??? When "later" comes around, I am going right back to Mission Bay. Now that's how it works... that's how you become a successful business owner.

When my car broke down a few weeks ago I thought the problem might have been with the transmission. After finding Mission Bay Automotive on Yelp I called them up so I could explain what had happened to see if they thought I should have my car towed to a transmission specialist (because I didn't want to have to have my car towed a few times). After talking to them on the phone they told me to go ahead to have my car towed to their shop because they didn't think the issue was with the transmission, but they told me if they were wrong they would pay to tow it anywhere else for me.
Moral of the story is I think the customer service there is excellent! Especially as a girl who knows nothing about cars I get worried that I will be ripped off when I have to take my car in to get serviced, but their staff was really helpful and friendly and didn't seem to try to up-charge me at all. I've lived in San Diego for a couple of years now and have been going to a different auto shop, but I have definitely been won over and will be calling up Mission Bay Auto next time my car breaks down.

Unbelievable service!!!! My daughter's car had trouble (I live out of town). Joe sent someone up to her school, picked up the car, took it back to his shop, figured out the problem and then called me to give me an update. The problem was a software issue that could only be handled by the dealership. I thanked him for his help, and asked how much was the service charge. NO CHARGE, he said.
As a father out of town trying to deal with a vehicle issue, it was incredibly reassuring to have someone as helpful as Joe to help. And then no charge???
Please support Joe with all of your automotive needs.

These guys are legit and the former reviews are correct. I talked with Joe and Troy and both of them are honest and know their business. These guys can fix any car, and will only charge you for what needs to be fixed.
I brought in my car with more damage than it was worth. Troy brought in a guy to buy it for a fair price, which was more than I was going to get as a trade in, or even on Craigslist.
I also got a recommendation from another guy. These guys seem to be legit.

These guys are Mr. Dugan's (Mees-Star Joo-Guns) doctor. They take care of him after the crap that I put him through everyday.
Here's the short version: You take your car to your local shop and tell them that it's been a long time since you've had maintenance (about 30k miles) and you want them to take a look and see if anything needs to be done. You walk away. 2 hours later, you get a phone call saying that you only need regular stuff done and the estimate is about 500 bucks. 500 BUCKS!!! That's it. Spark plugs, a few hoses, and some sensors. The dealer would have charged me at least a grand and told me that I had to overhaul something. Honest and to the point.
Here's another thing. They told me that I had a bad sensor. I was like, "Seriously, do I need to fix it now?!?!?" They were like, "You don't have to fix it now. You can do it next week or next month, but don't take a year to do it." This kind of honesty just kills me.
One more thing, they don't mind my questions. I once tried to change my own oil and I removed the bolt for the transmission fluid. It mixed in with dirty oil pan and I actually put it back in. The car didn't live after that. They actually take the time to explain the inner workings of the thing that they're working on to me. I've even looked up stuff and checked with the boards and had the same information given to me by the shop.
And another thing. I went to both BMW of San Diego & Cunningham BMW and they quoted me $1200 for new brakes. These guys quoted charged me $800 for same job. Excellent.
Okay, I know that wasn't really a short version. I really can't say enough about how much this shop takes care of my e39. It was recommended by someone I hold in high esteem. They earned her respect and have earned mine. Great people and great prices.

I love this place. I have tried many auto places over the past 6 years, and now I never have to go anywhere else! I read the reviews on Yelp a couple of months ago when my car needed an oil change. I decided to give MB Auto a try since it is close to my house. In addition to the oil change, it turned out I also needed a new battery. The oil change and new battery service were fine- no drama or issues.
So here's where the 5 stars come in: a couple of weeks later my battery was dead. I called MB Auto, and Joe said they would come pick my car up. I left the keys in the car, and they got it while I was at work. Joe called me later that day to say the problem was the alternator and what the cost would be. When I went to get my car, the cost of the repairs was actually less than initially quoted! Joe simply said he was able to save me some money. Not only did they pick up my car and make this process the most painless car service ever, they are honest! I would give this place 6 stars if I could!

Probably the most honest and straightforward place I've ever brought my car to for repairs. This is the only place I bring my car to now for repairs.

Best customer service ever. I went into to get a headlight replaced. Although they were busy, they quickly fit me in. While I was waiting for the repairs(15 minutes) I saw the following:
1. Each customer greeted and quickly assisted. The manager walked around to make sure everyone had been helped.
2. The mechanic offer to drive the car around for an elderly gentleman. When he tried to pay for the service (plug) they told him there was no charge
3. They told me I didn't need a service a requested (even though I would have never known otherwise)
4. They fixed my headlight for free and told me to tell people about their service.
Done. I joined Yelp just to review this place. I will definitely return.

As previous posters have stated, this shop is awesome. Troy and Joe helped me out and they were both more than honest. I had Troy look at my clutch and he said I should be good for another 25k miles where other shops were saying it needs to be replaced. They are replacing a fuel pump for me and did me the favor of taking my car across the street to get it smogged while they were waiting for the pump to come in. Very very friendly and I almost look forward to having more work done because they are so down-to-earth.

I came here with the outlook I usually have towards auto mechanics...that they are mostly deceitful thieves, so I was on guard from the moment I pulled my car onto the lot. However, after my experience, I drove away with a very appreciative view of these guys. This is the first time I've dealt with MBA, but am convinced that I will return based solely on a few simple things that they did. First and foremost, I was greeted in a friendly and timely manner despite the fact that they were clearly busy. Troy, the owner asked me a few simple questions about my car and what it was doing and I could see a light bulb going off in his head moments after I explained the situation. He asked me to pop the hood immediately, looked at my battery, tested it and immediately, (and I mean seriously, within 2 minutes) had a worker exclusively assigned to my car and my problem. I was happy to find out that it (so far) was just a simple case of loose battery terminals. Yes, I am automotively challenged. Hector, the worker was awesome. He cleaned, tightenedd and secured my battery and terminals, and gave me a few insights I didn't have. When asked if I owed them anything, they said no, but to watch to see if that solved the problem and to return if it didn't. Wow! Why can't other mechanics take this kind of approach? Helping people, not just their cars. I liked the fact that they weren't money hungry, condescending, jerks. They were professional, fast, and yes...actually helpful. Will definitely be returning.

I agree with everyone else...Honest and friendly. What more can you ask for from a mechanic? I just got a used car inspection, so they didn't fix anything - but I'd take any car here in a heartbeat again when I do have a problem. A gem!

I was referred to MBA by a AAA Tow Truck Driver over 11 years ago when my water pump went out. I was truly impressed when the Check Engine light came in a car that I recently purchased. I was young and panicked and just knew something was wrong with my engine. When I called MBA, Troy answered. He assured me that my engine was not going to fall out. He said, "I will tell you what i would tell my mother, daughter, or sister....it is most likely a sensor and will only cause you to not pass smog." He was right, it ended up being an O2 Sensor. I have been taking my cars there ever since! I refer everyone that I know in need of a mechanic to MAB. Joe and Troy are honest and trustworthy. They will tell you what repairs need to be done now and what repairs can wait. They realize that most people aren't rich and they won't recommend unnecessary repairs. When I read the couple of negative posts on here, I just shake my head. There is NO WAY i believe those posters and neither should you!

I was refereed to Mission Bay Automotive by a relative and was talking to a friend later on about taking my car to a mechanic off of Morena Blvd he asked me if it was Mission Bay Automotive and had nothing but great things to say. I knew i was on to something good when i had two people tell me to go to the same place. Troy (the owner) is awesome i will not take my car anywhere else he always takes care of his customers from what i have seen. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!

Both of my headlights went out in my car and Jiffy Lube told me that it was an electrical problem that I needed to get checked out by a (real) mechanic. I went to Mission Bay Auto upon recommendation by a friend. I was able to easily make an appointment for the next day. Joe (the happiest guy on earth) checked it out and said that it was not electrical, but that both bulbs needed replacement. Easy enough and I was happy that it wasn't a big deal; I was actually happy that Jiffy Lube was wrong even though I had essentially wasted my time. But get this...they didn't even charge me. What?! Yup. I'm sure that it didn't cost them very much to replace the bulbs nor much time to figure out what was wrong, but I have NEVER been to a mechanic who didn't charge me for every little thing. I just couldn't believe it! I would have paid for their time and supplies because it certainly wasn't their mistake and I had also signed an estimate that I would do so. All Joe asked was that I refer a friend. I am so impressed by this place that there is no question I will refer them to friends and I will certainly be coming back HERE for an oil change next time!

My story, check engine light came on while on the 5, then replace fuel filter light, I was from out of town, and it was Saturday about noon, I pulled in with half engine power, hector then took over, he ordered the part needed and scanned the engine, for codes, gave a fair price for the job and in a hour I was fixed, test drives , and paid. What a great honest job the boys did. And yes I made it home to Arizona, thanks to the owner for creating such a staff. Brad Edmondson

I need to take a moment to give one more HUGE Shout out. Thank you to Mike from Mission Bay Automotive. I called yesterday to see about bringing my car in to have the window repaired after the break in, and he said they would be closing around 2:30. The police didn't show up til about then, and they didn't finish til past three. I called MBA, which forwarded the call to Mike, he said they were closed and he was really sorry. A minute later, my phone rang again and Mike said, ... See More

Great shop, great folks. They were able to fix up my old '90 dodge W-150 that had a cracked timing cover. Well done. I use this truck for hunting so it needs to be reliable. I really appreciate that you went the extra step to find the right parts and fix it right. I will be back!

I've been going here forever (17 years maybe) and have sent countless other friends their way whenever someone needed a good mechanic. Everyone I sent has always thanked me for the hassle-free and enjoyable time they had at Mission Bay Automotive. I really can't say how expert, thorough, fair, friendly, reliable these guys are. Also, many of the employees have worked there for ages, which says a lot. I have always had Asian cars, but friends I know have taken just about everything else to them and no job is too out there for them. One thing I really like - and have always liked - is that they'll tell you what you should do now, and what can wait and, if you want to know, they'll tell you all about why your car had the problem and what other things fixing the problem (or not fixing the problem) will create later down the road. Preventative maintenance and necessary, these guys are where it's at.

I have been coming to Mission Bay Automotive for over 25 years and, once again, they did not disappoint. The front desk people and the mechanics are first rate. I had to replace a catalytic converter in order to pass the smog test and Hector went way out of his way to insure that it was a smooth operation. Troy, Hector, Mike and all the other mechanics working there are as honest as the day is long...a rarity in this day...and they will always treat you fairly and like family. To not use them as your auto repair service could well be one of the worse mistakes you could make. If they say that you need or don't need any auto repair service, then you can feel safe taking it to the bank.

We are very happy to take our car to a repair shop and not have to worry about sketchy repair shops.
