I needed to have a electrical tow plug upgraded on the way to Lake Tahoe and needed it done in a rush. These gentlemen are ALL OVER IT! Mike, the owner, gave a great deal with a Veteran's discount. The mechanic, Kevin, did great work! I highly recommend this shop! Thank you, Mike & Kevin!

Dishonest shop. I had my smog checked and failed. They replaced a few things and payed $1000 and still failed my smog. In addition I asked mike if he recheck my smog he said no I do not have to. When I heard that I left the shop. I went to a different shop and passed my smog check without fixing anything.

I had been going to this place for years, the mechanics are good the problem with this place is Jimmy, he is a simply a prick! I'd seen him treat his employees really bad and talk to costumes with smart mouth, he acts like he is doing you a favor I really feel bad for any employee or costumer that has to deal with him, there are so many places with good manners and great customer services so don't put up with this crap!

If your vehicle is deemed salvaged and needs a "Brake and Lamp Certification" by the DMV this is the place to get it done. But first, ensure your rotors, brake pads are not worn and brake fluids have been recently flushed. Check if headlights are working - especially if they are fancy/motorized; also restore them if they are sun damaged. Finally, make sure ALL exterior light bulbs light up.
These requirements have to be initially done before the certification in order to pass it. If you need any of these services completed, politely ask and they will certainly assist you with your service needs.
I wish I came by here first because at Keith's Automotive in Torrance was horrible, overcharge or charge you for every visit or at least when they look inside the hood; not only that they provide you with non-detailed info on the exact issue with your vehicle or part of your vehicle. Total bad service and communication.
The price here is reasonable and fair compared to my experience in Torrance. Jim (one of the owners) was very helpful and amicable during my first visit. I regret not coming here first but I'm glad I did because they just earned a lifetime customer and referral person.

WEll we took our newly bought used 1990 Tioga 26 footer type C RV for Smog check at 8 am . One of the few places that can smog check a huge RV
Done in 30 minutes .
Was able to eat breakfast nearby ,
Damage was only 85 dollars.

Like one of the previous reviews, I had to get a lamp inspection for a salvaged car. I arrived early on Tuesday morning without an appointment and they took care of me right away. Less than an hour wait and very reasonable cost for the service.
Getting the proper certifications for my car has been quite an ordeal. It had actually had been to a shop in San Diego three times previously (my son uses the car and he goes to school there) and failed to pass. Each time the cost for checking the lamps was twice what I paid at Cars Muffler & Automotive Inc.
The staff were very friendly and professional. I highly recommend them for your certification needs.

Bottomed out my car and cracked my exhausted near the catalytic converter. Brought it in and Mike took great care of me. I was in and out in less than an hour for less than $100. This is my new mechanic shop and I can't leave high enough praise for their service. Top Shop!

I do NOT recommend bringing your car here because you can't trust the judgement of the employees, mechanics and managers alike. I brought my 2005 Cadillac CTS here to get my drive shaft coupler replaced. It's a very simple procedure of replacing a rubber disk and the price was fair. What they did wrong was install a part that didn't fit correctly, which has resulted in damage to my car. A good mechanic is an expert on cars and would never have installed a part that doesn't fit unless the customer insisted.
The replacement coupler that I provided did not fit 100% perfect as it should but the mechanic chose to install it anyways. They did not call me to tell me and ask what they should do before installing it. I would have told them NO, don't install a part that doesn't fit right.
What the manager chose to do instead was let the mechanic install the defected part, then tell me about the bad fit when I was picking up my car. At that time I was shocked, didn't know what to say and the manager was assuring me it would be OK, even though the part didn't fit.
The bad part resulted in even worse problems than I had in the first place. I have to replace the coupler again ($125 part), pay for the labor again ($210), and possibly have damaged u joints due to the excessive vibrations since the defect part was installed. Cars Muffler said there is nothing they can do to help except charge me again for the same service. The manager did what all BAD managers do and put all the blame on me, his customer.

I brought in a 1999 Honda CRV that had been rear ended. I found Car's on-line about noon, took the car in about an hour later and the repair was completed in about an hour even though the shop was obviously busy on a Saturday afternoon. Great service and great price.

I have nothing but good things to say about the guys at Car Muffler & Automotive. I have been servicing my 11-year-old car here for the past 3 years and can say they are honest and get the job done right. Might they be a tad more expensive than the hole in the wall mechanics down the street? Perhaps... But at least I can trust these guys.
As an example, I had my car inspected at the Nissan dealer and was told I needed all sorts of work done on it. I took my car to Car Muffler and was told a lot of what the dealer was telling me just wasn't needed. The guys at Car Muffler could very easily have lied and agreed with the dealer to get more work from me, but they were upfront and honest about what ACTUALLY had to be done on my car.
They have been in business for something like 45 years, so they have to be doing something right. The only thing that saddens me now is that I am getting rid of my old car so probably won't be seeing them as much!

Excellent service but the pricing is not competitive. Got quoted $885 to replace a catalytic converter, ended up going to a different muffler shop for the exact same brand and model. Saved $185 by making a few calls.

I got recommended to this company through a facebook recommendations fb by far the best decision o made. They were so kind and accommodating to my needs. They communicated with me about my car in terms I understood. Try went above and beyond. A lovely family runs and owns it and when I left I felt I made a new friend. Very pleased!!!!

I brought my friends 2003 Mitzubishi SUV in here because it was running loudly and I thought it needed a new catalytic converter. Mike took a look under the car and found that the bracket holding it in place was rusted, the converter was fine. He replaced the bracket and topped of my oil with a quart. Easy Peasy and much a much cheaper fix than I had expected. These guys are honest and trustworthy. Although, they are a bit more expensive than competitors. However, I don't mind paying a little extra to not get ripped off with extra unneeded work elsewhere.

Family owned for over 30 years, now run by 3 brothers. About as honest as they come, they are 5 star AAA best on service. I had the pleasure of getting helped by Jim (the best out of the 3, he says ). I just moved to the LBC but will make the short drive for a great mechanic any day!!!

Car's Automotive is a little out of my way these days, but it's totally worth the drive. They are easy to work with, honest and very reasonably priced.
I have a car that has recently finished its warrantee period and I intend to keep driving it for another 6 years. Car's is my ace in the hole for keeping Beatrix (my Acura) purring. I just got new tires and an alignment for her and she handles just short of her ARX sister.
My only advice is this: be sure and schedule your work in advance, they are busy and this makes drop in service more or less nonexistent. They have done things for me on the fly in the past, but I know it's hard for them to do. So call and schedule well ahead for the best experience.

I live just down the street so I took my old VW here to get it smogged. BIG MISTAKE. It failed and I walked away with a $3000 estimate for repairs. It's pretty clear that they only do smog and other tests to drum up business. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else.

Great place! i came there to get a quote to correct something another muffler shop fouled up. When i got there...both racks were filled...but Michael (one of the owners) got one of the cars that were finished to be moved off for me. It was fast! Then he looked at my vehicle, gave me a good price on the spot, & had his worker begin the work! He was a very nice & down to earth man. i asked if he could do me a favor and FAX something for me & he had his brother in the office do it. He fixed my exhaust system in very timely manner & got my needs met. i am very satisfied with this establishment!

The people at this shop were very rude and my entire experience felt very sketchy and like I was being taken for a ride. I came in an told them I wanted an estimate for a broken mount that was right on top of my engine, easy to find and you can see it just by simply lifting the hood. They ushered me into their office, in which I could not see my car and their office lady was not very nice. The guy came in and asked for my keys to open the hood so I gave them to him and I had wanted to talk to him as he examined my car but when I tried to go outside the office lady told me I needed to stay in the office and it would only be a minute. Seemed weird to me and then when she left to ask him something I went outside and my car was lifted up with 3 different guys examining it! I specifically asked for JUST that one part and did not give them permission to lift my car and he then explained he was checking my other mounts. I just wished this shop would've have been a little bit more inclusive with me, the customer, when they are looking at the car, then maybe I wouldn't have felt like they were trying to take advantage of me. Finally, when I got the estimate from them, which let me say it didn't seem like they wanted to help me, they said it would be $200. I went down the street and another shop estimated $140. I wouldn't recommend this shop.

took my Mitsubishi Lancer in for a smog check/it was quick and easy/took about 30mins/staff was knowledgeable and friendly/prices might be a dollar or 2 more than other places but worth it when it comes to people who are up front and honest. They let you know what to expect and answered any of my questions or concerns. Especially great for anyone who drives a Mitsubishi since there are a few staff members who drive lancers and outlanders. So they know the deal, great bonus for us Mitsubishi heads!

Anyone who reads this must disregard the posting by my daughter who had a side window replaced after someone broke into her car while she was in Hawaii.
I have done business with Jim, Kevin and Mike for many years and I have found them
to be the most honest, reliable shop in the area.
All work done by CARS on my cars has been done professionally and I've never questioned their pricing as I have had car repairs done for over 50 years and CARS
is right on.
I highly recommend them to anyone who needs any work of any kind done on their cars. You won't be disappointed with the results.
When they say the car will be ready at any given time, you can rely on their word.
Take your car repairs to CARS and you won't be disappointed.

:( If only I could give no stars.
Went here b/c my poor muffler was draggin on the ground. Weird huh? Yeah, especially when I didn't hit anything and nothing hit me. Anyways, I called and Mike answered, he was ok over the phone and said to bring it in. Kool right?
Well I came in and he looked at the car and without even checking underneath it he basically said something to the extent of: "Who did you hit? or uh...who hit you? Because you're going to need a new muffler, etc.etc."
I looked at him crazy, then looked at my boyfriend with that, 'Seriously?' look. My car had NO rear damage AT ALL! I told him, "I didn't hit anyone, there was no accident." His response was, 'Well you hit something."
EXCUSE ME, but just because I'm a female driver DOES NOT mean I don't know how to drive. Get that outta your head buddy. I drive very well thank you.
So he said something about how my tailpipe was all bent and he'd have to replace it with a new muffler and blah blah blah. My boyfriend excused us for a second and we decided we just wanted him to get my muffler back up off the ground and secure it. That's all. He was hesitant to do that.
See, he was trying to sell me something I didn't need. If my muffler was all choked up and hardly any exhuast coming out like he said it was, my car would have problems running. I drive that car from Redondo to Santa Monica everyday no problems. I know BS when I hear it. Don't go here.
P.S.- Their customer service sucks. They didn't even greet us when we got there. Double sucks! lol.

Called in the morning, mentioned they were recommended to me for a smog check, and to check if they were busy and Mike indicated they were not. Explained to him that I needed to get the cats hot and would want to roll in and test right away. He was very curt, not very friendly, and I guess the best comparison would be the smog version of the Soup Nazi.
I went all the way down there from Culver City and when I arrived, they were not testing anyone and I went in to get things going. I have to say, he has got to be the most disinterested person I've come across lately. No sense of urgency, had my car idling for about 10-15 minutes (after saying they would get it going in 3) and so finally I was so irked by the whole lack of desire to help that I told them I was leaving. Leaving to drive a half hour across town to Koreatown to try another shop. That's how frustrated I was with their lackadaisical attitude. It's like they had too much business to be bothered. Suffice it to say, I will not be going back there, nor should you.

I am always wary of auto repair shops, so when it was suggested that I contact AAA, this is the business I was referred to. Because they are AAA approved, they take great pride in customer satisfaction. We have a 2003 Ford Explorer, which has needed minor repairs and they've been great about fixing the problem at a reasonable cost with quick turnaround. They are conveniently located in our neighborhood and offer drop off/pick up service. I may give them a try when it comes to the smog check.

I can't believe all of the negative reviews for this place. I have had nothing but great experiences with them. I'm very familiar with cars myself, and have worked extensively on all of my own vehicles. I decided a few years ago that I was getting too old to work on my own cars, so it was important to find a trustworthy mechanic who could perform excellent work to my standards. I discovered Cars Muffler & Automotive via a friend's recommendation, and have recommended this shop to many others who are also happy with the services.
These guys are AAA approved, work on all cars, and are very pleasant & friendly. Even if none of that matters to you, you can be assured that they do EXCELLENT work, and are VERY trustworthy. Due to my experience with cars, I have a great BS filter, and these guys pass with flying colors!

I'm impressed with the service and they have been around for years. I had a no fuss smog check on my 1995 car. It didn't need service and I was out in 30 minutes. I had to wait about 15 minutes to have my car checked. Great service! There was a $10 coupon online and I paid a little less than $43, I think, where other places were going for more, one even charging $76 for the same work. I am sold! I'll be back next year!!! Thanks!!!

The customer service is terrible. They're extremely rude, extremelyyy. Unfortunately I needed a service which only they can offer that is DMV approved and close to my home the other place was like 50 miles away...They're VERY expensive.
I went back to them to ask for a quote on a tune-up...he high-balled me some ridiculous cost. These guys aren't trust worthy.

Wow all I can say is this place is amazing. I drive a 1997 Subaru Outback and love it. I got concerned when I started to hear a rattle coming from under the engine. I had been told that it most likely the heat shield and that this was common in my car but would have to take it to an exhaust shop to get it fixed. I was driving down PCH and happend to see this place and deiced to stop in to see if they could fix the problem. I'm so happy that I did and will be back for sure after a quick inspection and me saying ok to the $25 price quote my car was back on the road rattle free and still going strong! Keep up the amazing work and if you need your car looked at for anything take it here!!!

Michael and his family members are great. Took my 1993 Chevrolet pickup there to have Edelbrock headers and a cat-back system installed. I had purchased both directly from Edelbrock. Dropped it off, got a call to say it was ready and picked it up. Then I found out that I had been sold the wrong cat-back system and Michael had to bend new piping to make everything work properly. No extra charge plus a free set of stainless tail pipes. Now that I have a new RAM R/T, that's going into CARS tomorrow for a hand-made cat-back system and Flowmaster Super 44's. Two hours and I'll be done. Very satisfied customer.

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The only reason I gave one star is because I didn't have to take my complaint to the extreme. I took my car here for a smog check and was told I needed an expensive overhaul by them. 1500-2000 dollars is what they quoted. I took my car to another shop for a second opinion. One small part later and I was done.

We have been looking for a good mechanic and auto repair that is honest. Well, this is not this place. I had a clunking noise in the rear end of my truck, and we took it there hoping it wasn't a broken axle or worse. Mike called and said the emergency brake had broke. Easy fix right? NOPE! He wanted to do all the brakes for $600! He said all the brake pads were shot. Well, if you have trouble with the rear end of a car why would you even look at the front end? So we told him to just take out the broken parts that were clunking and we would come and get it. We picked it up and it was still making noise, so we took it apart and he had left some of the parts in there that we had asked him to remove. And to top it off, all of my radio stations were erased and had to be re-set like they had disconnected the battery. What was the purpose in that? We will still continue to look for someone honest.

I needed a smog check on a 21 year old truck. DMV required test only or a gold shield station. I found Car's Muffler & Automotive on the smockcheck website.
The price they quoted on the phone was the price I paid. These guys have been family owned for over 30 years. Just in chatting I got the impression that for automotive repairs they may not be the cheapest, but they do good work with quality parts.

I have taken my car here several times. Actually I have taken my last 3 cars here several times. They are totally honest and don't try to take advantage of you if you're a woman like a lot of auto shops do. I've called them from other auto shops before to compare prices and they always take time to call me back and give me honest and fair prices. Other places will quote you a price and then find some other things to charge you for. My favorite mechanic there is Richard, he is really good and he sincerely cares about doing quality work. Try to get him to work on your car if you can.

I went here to have a sensor replaced. They did the work and everything seemed fine. Don't know if the price was reasonable because I didn't get quotes elsewhere even though I should have. When I picked my car up and drove home I noticed that the air conditioning wasn't working. I called them and they said the air conditioning had nothing to do with the sensor they replaced. What a coincidence that it just happened to go out at the same time they had my car for the day. Hmmm. So I went back and paid for them to inspect the air conditioning. They gave me a quote of $600 saying that a bunch of parts needed to be replaced plus cost of labor..etc..etc. I didn't have the money at the time so I went on living without air conditioning. After a while I was talking to my dad who told me that it may just need to be recharged. I went to the auto parts store and paid $15 to buy the stuff needed to recharge it. My dad hooked it up and its cold as ever. A year has passed and its still ice cold. I don't trust these guys. I've recently found a mechanic I can trust and would never go back to this place. Also they were not friendly whatsoever.

Been dealing with CARS for over 20 years now. They're extremely honest and will go the extra mile to be sure your repair is done properly, They've even corrected factory design defects in the wiring of my vintage classic car. They are often very busy because locals know they can rely on CARS mechanics to do it right the first time. The staff are always friendly and will explain to you what your car needs for it's repair and advise you about future needs. When your car doesn't need a repair after examining it, they will tell you that as well ! (rare now-days) I wish other companies were as reliable, honest and friendly as the folks at CARS !

The shop was recommended to me by a friend when I asked if he knew of a small, independently owned mechanic. (I am a big supporter of small business with personal service). The friend and his family have gone to the shop for years and have had good experiences. My 1996 Civic had just developed an oil leak. In about 1 second of my arrival, one of the mechanics greeted me in the drive way when I overlooked the sign directing customers to the office entrance. He couldn't have been nicer. Jim in the office was pleasant and efficient. I left the car and 2 hours later was called and told the washer to the oil pan drain bolt was the cause of the issue. Since the car isn't due for an oil change it is silly to replace it now because it is such a slow drip and won't cause any issues. He recommended I just wait until my next oil change to fix it and said the part is about $1. They also checked over the entire car and found that I'm close to needing 2 tires which I knew. Otherwise he recommended the 90K maintenance when I get there in a few thousand miles, and said that includes a timing belt but only if I haven't yet had it done which I would need to check my records for since they can't tell from looking. (I appreciated that caveat since I have done that maintenance and a dishonest mechanic could still push for it.) I've owned the car since it was new and am great about maintenance so I would've been surprised and leery had they found anything other than the oil leak. When I picked up the car I was given the keys and sent on my way at no charge!! Ultra impressed with my experience and highly recommend them. They didn't know me from anyone (that note especially for anyone who thinks women get taken advantage of with car repair) , spent their time at no charge and were honest, friendly and efficient...what more could anyone want of their mechanic?

The most comprehensive auto shop I've ever been to! The service was great, the people at the front desk are courteous and outright hilarious! We were cracking jokes and having great conversation which made the time seem like nothing. My car wouldn't start so I had it towed to this location as I heard they were great and they didn't disappoint. What I like most about this place is (oddly enough) the receipt. It goes into detail about part numbers and descriptions and "exactly" what they did with your vehicle. Most auto shops leave the information obscure and vague. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the Redondo area or anyone passing through. They are a bit pricey (considering the amount of work I needed done) but the quality is worth it.

Went there for a "Brake & Light Inspection" so I could get a salvage title for my car that was totaled but still drives well so I could give it to my kid that is in need of a car. Jim was very friendly on the phone when he was telling me this inspection was $91.00 so I brought my car in. Come to find out it is not a "Brake & Light Inspection" for $91.00, it is a "Light Inspection" for $31.00 and "Brake Inspection" for $60.00. My car failed the Light Inspection. OK fine charge me the $31.00 I'll say thank you and be on my way to the salvage yard to sell the car. But no, they went ahead and did the Brake Inspection and charged me $60.00 for an inspection that I no longer needed. I'm sure the guys at the salvage yard will happy the car has a brake certificate before they smash it to bits. These people will smile in your face while picking your pocket.

great service

I knew that my car needed some TLC and I knew I had a budget. I went to get a new muffler and was treated very fair and had a good experience. Great job!
