These guys are the best.
After a recommendation by a friend who lived in PB, I first met George (and later Aaron) when I was looking for a mechanic who could briefly check out the (Mystery) Ford I was planning to buy. Ever since that first encounter, he and his mechanics have done every single fix that was ever needed and, importantly, refrained from doing repairs that others told me I needed, but did not actually need.
They will give you clear feedback, care for your car, do the repairs quick (mostly within a day, two at most), and are cheaper than most other shops I've heard about. And there is always time for a friendly chat about other stuff, like our shared Dutch descent.
Throughout the years, I have recommended them to all my friends and colleagues who ever needed a repair and every single one of them was very happy with their service.
We'll be moving away from San Diego within a couple of weeks, and I can only hope that we'll find a shop that is as great and honest as this one.
See ya George.

PB FOREIGN=HONEST. Let me repeat that--HONEST.
PB Foreign will NEVER cheat you. PB Foreign will ALWAYS give the best deal. PB Foreign will ALWAYS fix your vehicle RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. I lived in PB for 8+years (I've always taken my vehicle to PB Foreign for repairs). I recently moved and my vehicle broke down nearby where I current live so I had my vehicle towed to the nearest car repair shop.... Big mistake!! I was quoted a ridiculous service fee because I was informed by the other car repair shop that my vehicle needed a major repair and complicated service and they can't locate the part they needed locally and would have to place a special order and of course they would need to keep my vehicle longer. I've decided to NOT have the other car shop do any service to my vehicle and just pay for another tow (25 miles tow) and take my vehicle to my trusted PB foreign. PB Foreign fixed my vehicle for HALF the service fee of the other car shop. My vehicle DID NOT need a major repair and I got my vehicle quickly and most importantly my car is ALIVE and running smoothly!!! I can't stress enough how much I trust PB Foreign with car services. They will not take advantage and rob anyone like other car shops shamefully do!! When my vehicle breaks down again, I don't care if I'm in Timbaktu, I would rather pay extra on tow to PB Foreign knowing my vehicle will be safe to drive when done.

The night before leaving to drive to Berkeley (500 miles), the check engine light went on. They helped me out of a pickle right away even though they were swamped! Great customer service!

I had taken my car to another shop, and had a major problem when I left. For fear that my car had been damaged I drove it over here after reading yelp reviews. I dropped it off Friday late morning, with a complaint that the AC made a flapping noise when turned on. They charged 40 bucks to inspect it. Called me later that day and said the noise was the serpentine belt. They said I probably hadn't noticed it before and that the when the AC was turned on it provided a conduction outlet for the noise. Knowing that this can cause mechanical failure I agreed to have it repaired. They said I could pick it up Sat. afternoon because a part needed to be ordered from Honda. Got a call at 3pm Saturday notifying me my part never came and asked if it would be ok if I could get it Monday morning (I said OK but wondered how long they knew before they bothered to call me, not to mention being inconvenienced by not having a vehicle all weekend). Monday morning rolled around, and I hadn't heard from them. Called and was told "oh its been ready". I thought well THANKS for letting me know. Went to get it, turned the AC on and there was that flapping noise. Turned around, came back and was like "did you guys even check it?". The mechanic claims he did. I asked him and the manger listen to it. They proceeded to show me my old serpentine belt and explain how it made a clicking noise and had cracks. I'm glad they fixed it, but was irritated they had it for 3+ days and hadn't fixed the AC. I told them I had plans to drive to Utah as I am a traveling nurse and needed my car. They promised to immediately look at it to get it fixed. I got a call 5 minutes later stating there was a receipt in the air intake to the AC, but mechanically the AC itself was fine. The noise was gone and I was satisfied. Finding a good car repair is so hard. I had high hopes, but was a little disappointed with the communication. Everything was fixed great, and again I am very happy the serpentine belt was replaced before breaking on me during my long drive. Being stranded would've been a nightmare. I would get work done here again, but would be more clear about what my concerns are before I left my car. Also located within walking distance to my house, which is super convenient.

PB Foreign is the auto body shop I've trusted since I moved to San Diego almost 5 years ago. Whenever I'm having an issue with my car I completely trust it being in the hands of PB Foreign. George, Aaron and Joe are three of the gentleman that of help me out over the years. Not only do they do excellent work but I 100% completely trust them, which is highly important when it comes to your mechanic. They also have excellent customer service and I definitely recommend them if you need any work on or have any questions about your car. They Rock!

My Subaru started acting up the day before we had to go back to AZ. They looked at the engine and ran a test, no charge! They were quick and extremely helpful. Couldn't ask for better luck finding trustworthy mechanics in an area we weren't familiar with. Thanks George!

I went here last week because my car wouldn't start. AAA was able to jump start my car and follow me to this place. Obviously there was something wrong with the battery. However, my engine didn't sound right.
I left it there and received a call a couple days later and he said " Hey, so why did you bring your car to us?" And I said "Well I broke down and it sounds like it's going to stall at every stop light." He said, "Well after you drove it through the puddles in the rain, it didn't work right." I even told him when I dropped it off that I didn't drive through puddles since I didn't want to get stuck like other people in the rain. Anyways he said I can pick up the car even though it keeps stalling.
I picked the car up and went and bought a new battery. It still did the same thing it did before. I was able to get it to my father and he noticed 2 minutes later that there was a hole in the air tube that feeds into the engine which is why I was stalling.
These guys never even looked at my engine and blamed me for running through puddles and making me feel bad for wasting their time. I understand it gets busy I was just very disappointed in that phone call. I work in customer service and I get how customers are, however, I didn't feel like I needed to be treated that way.

These guys rock. I have been coming to get my car serviced here for over 15 years. Place is very rugged and so are the mechanics, but don't let that deter you from getting your car fixed here because they do a fantastic job. Not only is the work done right, the price is also very fair.

Unfortunately, the pre-purchase inspection was not so thorough. I was told the rear brakes were only 10% worn, but this assessment was based on the outside pads only (as seen through the wheel). They didn't check the inside pads, which were toast. I feel this was a big miss on their part. Ended up replacing both pads and rotors a month later. Bummer...

Great place!! I just moved here and it was time for an oil change. George was able to fit me into the schedule the next day. Loved that they were so friendly, talked to my dog and me AND did a great job on my car. Back home I had a shop that I trusted and they took care of me. I feel like I've found a new shop that will do the same. Highly recommend George and his team!! Thanks guys!

This is the best place for service of my vehicle. I used to go to the dealer and I was never treated like a friend. Here I am treated like I am visiting friends who will take care of a member of my family. I can trust PB Foreign and they are as concerned about the safety of my vehicle as I am.

Excellent, fast, affordable, and friendly service!! This place was fantastic. I took my car here to have the headlights replaced (which required the bumper to be removed), and they replaced it with no problem!
I can't remember the person who helped me, but he was an older, tall, good-looking gentleman with gray hair. He was so nice & had my car ready in a few hours.
I had called many mechanic shops, but a lot of places couldn't service my car, so when I found this place & saw how nice/helpful they were, I was beyond thrilled!
I'll definitely be coming back for any further auto needs.

These guys are great and I'm so glad they're in the neighborhood. I've now taken my car here twice. First time was major and they had it ready in a day for SO much less than a dealership would have charged. The second visit was minor and I was outta there in 5min with a bill for $5 because they checked my oil and it was low. Awesome place... Thanks guys.

I've been a loyal customer since 2002. I know nothing about cars, so it would be easy to take advantage of me. I trust George and Aaron completely. On numerous occasions, they told me that my car didn't need work. I wouldn't have known and they could have made a lot of money from me. My car is always ready the same day I bring it in. My new Beemer is under warranty, but once it's no longer under the warranty, I plan to return to PB Foreign, rather than BMW of San Diego.

This is a long overdue review of a shop that is always genuine and willing to work with me on any issue I've had (and I've had many!) with my vehicle. The guys are awesome, reliable, honest, and always kind. I'm used to working on vehicles with my dad and only going to the shop if absolutely necessary. I feel like I can trust these guys being on the other side of the country from my at home mechanic.

It is hard to trust a mechanic with your car when you are a female- you don't know if what they are telling you is wrong with your car is accurate or they are just trying to make extra money of your ignorance. Well let me tell you that all my fears have gone away since I've been taking my car to George. They are so sweet and trustworthy! I feel comfortable with their quotes and my car always leaves the shop with no issue. I highly recommend the shop and I know you will love it too!

I had two major repairs done here. The first one was my radiator being replaced. Everything went well and the price was excellent! Now my second repair was my break pads being replaced. They replaced them and the price was great as well... less than 6 months later I was driving on the freeway and my right break pad broke off my tire and almost caused me to crash while I was exiting the freeway. I had to have my car towed, call in sick to work that day... Had my car towed to mieneke in pacific beach. They told me when I had my breaks done, the bolt was not correctly put back on, causing the caliper (which holds your break pad on) to break off! Cost me $300. I took these repairs bill to PB Foreign car repair and they did refund me. When I received the refund, they were VERY rude and nasty to me. Excuse me? It was YOUR mistake.
Anyway they are a great little shop BUT I am putting 1 star for poor attention to detail in their mechanics and rudeness. The younger guy who works there forgot the make of my car and where he parked there. He almost gave me someones mustang to take home. Hmm... Pay attention!

PB Foreign is absolutely the best! I have been bringing my older VW Touareg here for about three years now. George and Aaron, along with their mechanics, are first extremely friendly and trustworthy. They take the time to explain things and the pricing is very reasonable.
I have always had an excellent experience with PB Foreign but today's visit made me want to rave about them on Yelp. I have had brake work done previously at PB Foreign and knew what to expect so when my brake light went on, I just assumed that either front or rear brakes needed to be replaced. I brought my car into PB Foreign this morning and Aaron mentioned that I would be looking at around $300 for the brakes. No problem, exactly what I expected. I went to pick up my car a few hours later as I had to be at work. Aaron told me to hold on and asked his mechanic to get "that sensor from my car". Uh-Oh I thought....was it a bigger issue? They both showed me the damaged sensor and Aaron looked at me and said "you owe us nothing today. Your brakes are fine. It was just a bad sensor that we replaced. WOW!!! Talk about taking care of your customers! I would have easily paid the $300 and left without a clue that it was just a sensor. It's great to see that there are still honest people in this world who are not just after money.
These guys are the best that there is and I guarantee you will not be disappointed with their work or service.
Thank for PB Foreign for making me a very happy customer!!!!!

These guys are awesome!
I took my 2006 4Runner in for a transmission fluid change and some other maintenance.
About a month after the work my transmission started slipping to the point I couldn't even get up a hill. I doubt it was their fault, who knows with newer cars and all the technology...
They immediately took my truck back into the shop and did another transmission fluid change for free.
It's now a year later and my truck is running perfectly.
My wife and I will always take our vehicles to PB Foreign!

Took two cars into this shop for repair. After spending over 3,000 I had to take both of them back for work that was not complete. Additionally, they detached an air pump and didn't fix it. Forcing me to drive to another mechanic to get the issue fixed.
I would not recommend going here.

I went here because my 2006 Audi A4 was running roughly, the check engine and transmission light was on, it had an oil leak and it was having some trouble starting. They called me back pretty quick and told me that i needed new spark plugs, a new ignition coil and a new gasket cover and something was wrong with my transmission that they couldnt fix. They told me it would cost about $650, I said yes. Then I thought thats kinda high so I looked up the price of the parts they came out to be around $220. I called them back and asked why they priced it so high and they gave me a run down of the price of the parts and said that it would take about 4-5 hours and that would cost about $273. Total $493. So all the sudden the price went down more than $100. I thought that was interesting.
I am adding this to my review and lowering the rating because when I came to pick up my car I witnessed
on their computer monitor and in the search engine was typed how to fix something... I could not believe they were looking up how to fix cars on YouTube. I will go to audi of San Diego from now on for my car repair needs.

The best repair car repair in SD!
My Acura TL Type S has 210k miles on it and it runs like a champ. PB foreign and domestic has managed this car for the last 100k. The maintenance is always on point and reasonably priced. My wife found PBF&DCR on Yelp and scheduled an 8:00 am time slot. Erin (Aaron?) was incredibly polite when we dropped off the car, called within an hour, told us what the car needed and how much it would cost and then called back at 2:00 to tell us it was ready to pick up.
It wasn't cheap but it was much less expensive than the place I had been using in Northern Virginia before we moved to SD,Erin actually listened to what we had to say and asked questions (made me think of Car Talk. "Now where does that sound come from?"), and he called when the work was done.
Bottom line: we'll be back.

I've been taking my car here since I moved to PB a few years back as my local go to for honest and reliable work. The rates are about the same at other shops - typical $60-$100.00 hour rates for work and they charge by the book for the job regardless of course of the effort (understandable as this is the way mechanics get paid - if they job is priced at 10 hours - you pay 10 hours and if they get it done in 2 they get paid the 10 hours, standard practice).
I have had my radiator repaired here as well as a bad alternator. I did take my car here last time to diagnose a smog issue (damn you california emissions requirements...) my car wasn't polluting by legal standards but a valve wasn't opening according to the smog tech and its test only so I had to take it to a shop to get it checked out. They stated everything was okay and didn't charge me for looking at it which was totally cool. I always end up talking with the owner as he acts as their service rep and he is honest and straight up.
Ill be back for the usual stuff as my hoopty 1995 Mitsu 3kgt VR4 continues to fall apart and require service.

After dealing with this shop, I would strongly advise others to be very weary of what they say and their shady business practices.
They are more in the business of doing what is best for them - less work and not what is necessarily best for you - less money.
After having spoken with them regarding an issue I was having with my car they recommended unnecessary repairs which I later found out were not needed. When questioned about this, they admitted that it was less work for them to just completely replace something instead of fixing it even if it was more cost to the consumer.
These are not the type of shops I would personally like to do business with and try to avoid at all costs. Repair shops should have the consumer's best interest in mind and not their own.
Anyway, I ended up getting my service done with another shop for a lot less and haven't had any problems with better parts and even a better warranty on the service.
As far as customer service goes, the old guy George is a good guy to talk to but his son could use some valuable lessons from him on how to deal with customers.

I hate to be a downer but these guys devalued my car due to a simple error that was obviously theres and refused ownership of it. BEWARE!
My check engine light came on and I went straight to PB foreign auto to see what was going on. In a nut shell I needed new spark plug wires and gasket covers. They did the work no problems... my car was driving better.
Then two days later my car breaks down (its a 2004 subaru) starts smoking the oil light is flashing the check engine light is on and my car is overheated. Check under the hood and the radiator hose is completely off! While these guys were working on my car they forgot to tighten it back on. My car is completely dry of coolant and now due to these conditions Im sure has some form of engine damage.
First thing I do when I get my car drivable again is bring it to PB foreign auto to see what they say and will do for me. They say they will check it out. Dont call me back all day when I call them they say its fine we topped off the oil. REally?! Topped off the oil. You damaged my car assholes and you just top off the oil. Oh and gave me a free oil change for my "problem" that they wont own up to. DONT GO HERE!

Aaron is the man!
I bought my Mustang brand new assuming I was making a responsible and prudent purchase (being that the vehicle would be under warranty).. Well, yes, my car held-out the first 30k miles, then slightly past the bumper-to-bumper warranty, I began having a lot of problems.
About every 10-20k miles, something goes wrong, and every time, the dealership wants to charge me $700+ dollars for a simple repair (that would take the dealership even longer to fix). PB Foreign & Domestic, however, charge only a fraction of the price, they're faster and SO incredibly helpful; I cannot stress how awesome and friendly they are.
I consistently bring in my car for minor repairs, and consistently they always fix my problem within less than an hour, and always provide World-Class Customer Service.
I generally read a lot more Yelp Reviews than I do write them, but this place is outstanding and they deserve all the merit.
Thanks Aaron!

Best shop in town. Went here on a Sat afternoon and they were full - but they did a quick check and put two quarts of oil in my Tahoe, fixed a couple little things, checked it out again and said to come back the following Saturday. No charge!! When I took it back they were ready - they fixed a ton of stuff and did a great job. The truck runs like a top. Very reasonable charge, very quick and friendly. My 2002 honda civic ex busted the timing belt and bent the valves on the freeway. The guys at PB repair did me a solid and did the repairs mostly at cost. I just had to pay for the labor. They did this by keeping the machining of the valves in-house instead of sending them out. I trust their work and feel pretty good about it.
I am generally skeptical of mechanics just bc of so many horror stories. I can do most repairs on my car myself. I replaced the rotors, installed a new suspension, etc. So, when I'm talking shop with the guys I can tell if they're trying to screw me over. These guys don't. The owner even took me into the shop, showed me what they were working on, and explained in detail how they'd repair it. Replacing and machining valves is a pain in the ass.
Anyway, they honor the the discount on their website, so go there for sure and print it off. It's good on bigger fixes and should save you about $40 tops. My repair was $1600. It really could have been around $2200.
The car runs great and I'll definitely be back if i need more major work done.

It is interesting to note that I called a auto repair place not to far from my home. They told me that it would take at least half a day if not longer. The starting estimate was three times what it costs at PB Foreign.
I've referred PBF to several people including my boss.

I called to schedule an appointment to bring my car in for its 90,000 mile service. I was 12,000 miles past due on that, and in another 3,000 miles the car is due for a timing belt replacement. I asked them if they could do both jobs that day, and George told me they were really busy. He suggested that I bring it in the following day. That's one of the reasons I have been taking my cars to PB Foreign for over 17 years. George and Aaron are honest and will tell it to you straight.
I brought my car in the following day, and I knew this was going to cost a little bit more than I cared to spend, and take some time. Aaron said they would see if I could get by without changing the platinum sparks plugs because they are expensive. Aaron called me in the afternoon to let me know that I would probably would not be able to pick it up today. Not good news, but I knew that going in.
After I picked up the car the following day, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that not only did I save $100.00 because the spark plugs didn't need to be changed, but they had thrown in a repair that wasn't included in the service at no cost!!!
The power steering leak that was making an awful noise when I turned the wheel at low idle was gone. It turns out that Greg, the mechanic fixed it even though it was not included in the major service, and I wasn't charged extra. I'm not sure how much fixing the power steering leak would have been by itself, but I was grateful it was done. Some shops and a lot of dealerships would have told the customer they need to replace the power steering reservoir, and charged for the part and labor.

Please read this before deciding on a car repair place. Keep in mind that I am a female in my 20s and came alone.
I actually was a repeat customer of this place (for repairs that cost $$$$$) and would even refer people to come here. Today was much different though when I didn't agree to additional services. Read the other one star reviews as well...they seem to say the exact same things.
I went in for a windshield wiper repair. Before giving them my car, I told him (I think the owner) that if it was too expensive, I wasn't going to get anything fixed since I am getting a new car soon. He said most likely parts are broken on the inside so to "prepare for it to be costly".
Take this for what it is...When he went to take me to my destination, he said "we'll take this one"...it was a Porsche Boxter.
30 minutes later he called to say that parts are indeed broken and it will be $268 to fix. I said ok, don't replace it then because there's other problems with the car too so I need to figure out if it is worth it to replace everything when I'm getting a new car soon. He said "You don't have a choice". I said "what do you mean I don't have a choice?" He said (word for word) "We HAVE to replace it because we already took the pieces apart and it's lame to put all broken pieces back in your car. Besides, it's supposed to rain the next 5 days." (I don't have to do anything and I don't like that he says I do) Instead, I said "I agreed to pay $45 just for the diagnostic so that pays for that labor, but I just need to think about the repair to figure out if I can afford it. He says "i have other customers in here. Just come get your car" and hangs up the phone. WOW.
I had to take a cab there since they wouldn't come pick me up at my house that was just a mile away.
I go pick up my car. He doesn't say a SINGLE world. He just hands me the invoice and I pay the $45. Still NOT ONE WORD. I say thank you to be polite. NOT one word. I say "I just wanted to let you know that it is unprofessional to hang up on a customer just because I didn't agree to use your services and that I won't be coming back based on that". He said (word for word) "If i could refuse customers, i would never let you come back on this lot" (Keep in mind that I'm a young female simply trying to pay for college right now) I said "what would make you something like that? Because I can't afford your services right now?" As I'm walking away to my car, he yells "You're screwed!! Good luck finding it cheaper somewhere else...you never will!!! You're so screwed. Now you can just drive blindly in the rain and cause an accident. You're screwed" (and then he proceeds to laugh)
I honestly don't even know what to say except for that he made me cry. You can judge for yourself. I was completely calm the whole time and was appalled by the words coming out of his mouth just because I didn't agree to additional services. I can't help but think it is because I am a young woman that clearly doesn't have car knowledge who he feels he could bully around. I know if I had my husband or dad there, he would have NEVER said those things to me. I'm very disappointed that there are businesses(and people) like this in this world.
Also, I went to a repair shop down the street (Robert's) and their quote was $201 ($70 less than here) and they were super nice...so go to Roberts down the street instead.

I'm so happy with the service I received at PB Foreign & Domestic Car Repair. I just stopped in because my car was making this awful scraping noise whenever I braked and I know nothing about cars so I was really nervous something was seriously wrong. The guy was super nice and patient with me and he looked at my car and got back to me right away. It turns out I badly need new breaks and they got it done is just a couple of hours, plus they rotated my tires and gave me an oil change, all for just $450, the Volvo dealership would have cost twice as much I'm sure. Plus they even rubbed out some scrapes I had on the side just to be nice! I will definitely be going back whenever I need auto help and I strongly recommend them to anyone! Totally trustworthy and super welcoming!
Random side note - I had accidentally left a bunch of stuff in my car, iPod, iPhone car charger, iPod dock, etc, and nothing was touched!

The last two times I took my car in they found that it was a quick fix. Literally took less than 30 seconds each time without parts involved. They didnt charge me and sent me on my way. They easily could have took my car in for an hour and told me that I needed some part that I never heard of and hit me with a $300. I wouldnt have have known the difference because I dont know squat about cars. But they didnt. After those two experiences I totally trust these guys. Aaron and his dad run the shop and are good guys. The worst feeling is going to a mechanic, especially if you dont know dick about cars, because you think you are going to get fleeced. They had a chance to pluck this pigeon and didnt. Good for them. I'll go back because they are honest.

I have a Volvo 850 and had a Check Engine light come on...I was referred here by a friend who said, "these guys are honest and reliable." They pulled the fault code for free. The code was for a leak in the evap system. They performed diagnostics and determined that the Evap canister was full of carbon build up and needed to be replaced. Replaced it, cleared the codes, passed SMOG, check engine light has been off ever since. HONEST mechanics are hard to come by.

Taken my car here a few times but I'm just getting around to writing a review. They have always been accurate with their quotes and time frames. On my most recent visit, I had my car get towed there because one of the spark plugs fell out while I was driving. They fixed up quickly and didn't charge me, and even put some gas in my car (my tank was almost empty when I brought it in). Awesome!

I have taken several cars to PBFD and everytime I left very happy. They are honest and tell you exactly what the problem is without trying to upsell you (which is IMPORTANT in my book.) They also breakdown the costs, from how much a part is to the labor.
I had my check engine light go off the other day, so I stopped by without an appointment and they immediately ran a diagnostics test to resolve the problem, which they did in minutes!
On a seperate occasion, my break light was out and they just popped in a new bulb in less than 5 minutes, for free (as I am a repeat customer.)
I recommend this place for their honesty, personability, work, and fast service.
The only reason I give it a 4 out of 5 stars is because trying to find the shop can be difficult if you've never been, but this is truely a diamond in the rough.

I am giving a 5 star review for customer service. I usually only get on yelp to do negative reviews. Aaron gave me a discount for my military service as well as voluntarily putting the repair under warranty. The repair had to do the engine temperature. First, they replaced a sensor. When the engine light remained on, I brought it in at no extra charge and they replaced the thermostat.

Quickly...
They charged me HALF of what Boulevard Automotive quoted me ($644 inc. tax v. est. $1,200-1,500) for a power steering pump replacement.
They were really nice and accommodating.
They got my car back to me THE SAME DAY!!!!!! (It was probably more lucky than not, but that is AWESOME.)
Their services are very competitive for those relatively expensive german cars, and maybe even downright cheap ($89 for the 5k service, $289 for the 15k, and I think $549 for the 30k)
Based on the reviews below, it may not be the best place to take a car for a pre-purchase inspection, but they did a damn fine job on my car. I will definitely be going back (if I have any other issues with my car [knocking on wood]).

Great, honest, and affordable business and always very accommodating. I've been taking my Honda Civic and BMW M3 to PB Foreign and Domestic for years and will never go anywhere else. From tune-ups to engine work this place has always taken care of me and many of my friends. Aaron and his dad George run the place and they are both very straight shooters. I had a great experience with the PB F&D repair shop. In the past, I had used a dealership (Pacific Nissan) until they quoted my $375 for a service that PB F&D quoted as $250-280. I took a chance with PB F&D. After they looked at the trouble area, they determined I didn't need the fix. I appreciate the honesty, and will return here in the future. [I can only assume Pacific Nissan would have completed the unneeded service since they suggested I needed it.]

Good service, didn't charge me when they couldn't fix the issue though did say that "Unfortunately they couldn't make any profit from me..." which I was not a fan of.
Not totally convinced on their expertise since it took them 2 days to work out why my headlight wasn't working. Explained to me the part was $500 from the manufacturer which was fine (as it was), but then continued to try and push me into buying it when I wanted to go with a used one.
All in all a sound shop, a little expensive and can be pushy so be wary.

I love PB Foreign because, they are fast, honest, knowledgeable, fair with their prices and have great customer service. I have been there twice and both times I was really impressed with how fast they took care of my car problem without any hassles.

Seriously I'm so glad I checked yelp and went with this place since I'm new to town. It's never going to be cheap to fix your car, but at least these guys make it easier. You'll pay $75 for the diagnostic, but that will be credited towards a fix. I also purchased the parts myself which made it cheaper and they were gracious enough to fix with my parts. Good guys. Thanks yelp! :)

Car problems are the worst. My check engine light had been on for about a month when I called PB Foreign and Domestic to see about bringing it in. I read George the engine codes and he looked them up over the phone and gave me an idea about what might be causing the problem. I told him I'd bring it in right before closing so they could check it out the next day. When I dropped the car off, George had an action plan and told me what test they'd be performing.
The next day, around 10am, Aaron called and told me the results of the test. Something about some valve. But he really explained it in detail, which was nice, since I clearly wasn't going to understand anyway. All in all, it was going to be $220. Not bad, when you know so little about cars that you figure anyone could just lie about what's needed to be done and totally screw you. But at $220, I didn't feel screwed at all. The car wasn't going to be done until the following day, but that's just because they had to go to LA to get the part they needed.
When I picked my car up, Aaron explained everything again and showed me my bad part that they took out. These guys are really nice, honest, and reasonably priced too (as far as I can tell).

I'm a 24 year old, single woman and I know zero about cars. Given the circumstances, It's probably no surprise that I have been taken advantage of by Car Repair places in the past, so I am wary. Needless to say, PB Foreign and Domestic Car repair exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds. I worked with the owner and another one of his employees. Both were honest, helpful, and gave me Immediate service. Not to mention, both seemed like genuinely good people. I would recommend this place to every one of my friends and family.

I initially came to PB Foreign and Domestic Car Repair last year to get my spark plugs replaced, based on several positive Citysearch reviews. I had a good experience (although I ended up being out $500...stupid cars), but I wasn't sure if I would keep coming to them as they were a little out of my way.
Well, I will be returning because of my experience with my most recent repair to replace two oxygen sensors. Aaron, the mechanic, is incredibly patient and honest. He clearly explains all the repairs that you need and why you need them, and instead of replacing multiple parts unnecessarily, he fixes them sequentially to make sure that it is really that part that needs to be replaced. I had initially taken my car to G Win on Miramar after my engine light went on because it was closer and more convenient for me, but I really regret wasting my time. After an extremely difficult time understanding what was wrong with my car, I found out that my two front oxygen sensors were malfunctioning and I was quoted $470 at G Win to have them both replaced. I couldn't believe that both would fail at the same time, so I returned to PB Foreign and Domestic Car Repair to have the diagnostic test repeated. Aaron repeated it at no charge, tested both sensors, found that they both were indeed malfunctioning, and explained to me clearly what he was going to do. He replaced them both for $260 total (after using a $40 off coupon I found on their website), parts and labor included, and he did it in two hours, versus the six hours they told me it would take at G Win. In total, Aaron saved me over $200, and based on his previous work on my car, it is a quality job.
The shop is a little hard to get to, as they have a really tiny lot in the middle of PB, but it is worth it to get such honest service.

Honest and fair, one of the most pleasant experiences I have had in a long time!!! They saved me $3000 on a new transmission (which the dealership said I had to replace) by doing a transmission flush with additive. They were short handed so the owner promised he would do the job himself which was impressive. $150 and my car is running great oh and they even did a diagnostics check for free ($75 at the dealership). Highly recommended!!!

I found this shop on Yelp and it lived up to the positive reviews I read through before taking my car there. The shop and its owners are great! The shop is run by a father and son team who've been in PB for two decades, give or take, and understand their customer base. I went in thinking I had a balance issue. It turned out that I had a broken rear driveshaft. Aaron (the son), told me and showed me what was up. He then did something I've never heard of another mechanic doing, he encouraged me look around for the part while did his own searching. Keep in mind that a new rear driveshaft by itself runs $800-$1000. Fortunately, I was able to find the part online, for much less than $800 (though it was used) and have it delivered to PB Foreign & Domestic where they installed it less than 24 hours after it arrived. Furthermore, they knew I was working within a budget and kept cost within that budget. The entire thing (parts, labor, etc.) cost me less than a new driveshaft and less than some of the used drivshafts I found. Afterwards, my car drove (drives) great!
Any other place would've likely had me on the ramen diet for a month or more for a repair of this nature. That said, this was the second time I'd taken to my car here and it won't be the last. These guys are looking to make a living, not build an empire on the backs of working stiffs...(err Mossy). They've earned my business and I look forward to working with them as I try to keep my 3rd generation 4Runner on the road and something other than ramen in my belly. If you're in SD and your car's in need of repair, this is the place. They'll treat and you and your car well while not emptying your bank account.

These guys were my mechanics for quite a while. I found them honest and they get the job done quick. They also took time to explain the problems and did not talk down to me when I asked for more information on specifivc issues with the car.
However, the LAST time I went there, I had a used car inspected. They charged me 1.5 hour to inspect the car. I believe it's the going rate, even if I think it's too much for what they actually do.
The biggest issue is that they failed to notice the car had previously been impacted in the front and had some body work done. I had given them clear instructions to look for any signs of collision. They also never noticed that the HORNS were not working. You would expect a pre-buy inspection to test the horns!
Bottom line:
Nice guys - Poor mechanics.
Took my business elsewhere.

I used to take my VW here for all my repairs but will never go here again. I realized after numerous fixes that the only thing good about this place is their price. Most of my issues they "fixed" have all resurfaced. All you can count on at PB Foreign is: 1) the car's interior is always more dirty than when you dropped it off 2) They do not honor their shotty work 3) The car is never ready when they say it will be. PB Foreign auto is fantastic. I have gone to them for basic oil changes and to fix my Midas breaks (NEVER go to MIDAS for breaks they are TERRIBLE quality and very unhelpful). They took my car immediately, called and explained what they were going to do and the cost before doing the work. I popped in today for a brake light outage and in about 1 minute they came to my car checked all the lights and replaced it. They didn't make me wait or leave the car... they understand how business should be done. All of the mechanics there are super helpful and kind. I feel that they are honest and really put out a good product, much better than the creepy VW dealership that tries to take your money in whatever way possible, Aaron and team at PB Foreign really tells you what needs to be done and gives in my estimation a fair price.

I used to take my old beat up Volkswagen to George at PB foreign. He was always forthright, fixed the problem fast, and was really affordable.
So, a friend of mine had an "electrical problem" with her Kia. The shop down the street told her it was going to be $300 for four hours of diagnositc work. You can probably see where this is going...
I recommended PB foreign, she drove her car in, and PB foreign replaced a fuse and she was on her way in ten minutes, total.

This is a great place to take your vehicle for repair! We got a recommendation for this place from a friend who really liked the great service and reasonable prices. My husband took his truck here after it broke down. The guys at PBFD explained what happened to his truck and what was needed to repair it, as well as an estimate of the cost to repair. My husband gave them the go-ahead, and they ordered the part needed and had his truck ready even earlier than their original estimate!
Not only are these guys at PBFD professional and really nice, but their business is a BBB member!!!

The last job they did for me was replacing a timing belt on my pickup truck. They were timely, accepting of immediate drop-off. Everyone tells me the timing belt is a pretty difficult task and is usually really expensive, but the price was very nice, and they weren't trying add on this or that to it as well. My truck was in great shape when I got it back.
Additionally, I would not listen to the VW owner below. If he/she used to take their VW there all the time and their work was supposedly so bad, why did you keep going back? Shotty comment if you ask me.
One of the worst things about going to a mechanic is trying to believe whether or not what they tell you is actually true, or just having that bad feeling in the back of your head that they just want you to hand over the cash. These guys are real people, so there is no feeling of doubt to go around in my head when they talk to me. They will explain everything I ask them about (like ?Why? kinds of questions), as well as be upfront with options, times, and necessities.
Support this local business!

I just moved to PB and within a week my car's engine light turned on. I took it to Pacific Beach Foreign-Domestic and the service was great. The guy at the counter was polite and gave me a realistic time frame of when I should hear back from them. He called me 45 minutes later and discussed the problems and cost to fix it. Professional, Customer Oriented Service.
I wasn't certain what my next step was regarding my car problem. George and Aaron were real professionals who answered all my questions when I phoned them and came into their shop. They made a point of never rushing me and gave me enough feedback so that I could make an informed decision. This is in sharp contrast to the Firestones of the world who always give me the impression that they want to do free inspections so that they can create fear and offer high priced often unneeded repairs. Bottom line: Go to PB Foreign for professional work, quality customer service and competitive prices (it never hurts to get a few quotes from a few quality shops).

I had my Toyota Corolla towed because I was told it was leaking brake fluid by some friends while I was out of town. I never saw the leak The owner was really helpful and explained later on the phone that while the point of his job was to make money fixing cars, they could find nothing wrong with my car. Everything looked good. So I took it home, having paid NOTHING for it to be extensively looked over. A few weeks later, I did see a leak and I called him to describe the color and location. He laughed and asked me to look in my trunk. He had experienced this before with a customer - turns out I had put something under my trunk (a spare thing of coolant) and that is what was leaking. So he fixed the issue for me over the phone. I never would have figured it out, ignorant as I am. He is really straight-forward, really honest, easy to understand, and seems like a good guy. I already posted this on Yelp, but I'll post it here too. These guys deserve all the positive reviews they get, because they are the best.

Wow!!! I brought my car in to have it checked after the Hyundai Dealership in Kearny Mesa estimated over $1,000 in urgent repairs. Because of prior bad experience with a different dealership, I preferred to have a local mechanic take a look at it. And I came to Pacific Beach Foreign ans Domestic Car Repair. This is a family run business and both the dad and the son are very nice people, honest and patient. After the mechanic checked my car, he said he could not find anything wrong with it. The timing belt the Dealership claimed was cracking, it's actually in perfect condition and it might start deteriorating in 30,000 miles. If your car needs attention, you have to bring it to PB Foreign and Domestic Car Repair!

Bad A/C Service
