First time customer ........
I woke to a dead battery and other electronic issues today.
Alex answered the phone and made me feel welcome and hopeful taking my car to them.
Once there, Alex was very efficient and helpful. The shop was clean and the lobby very welcoming. Free water , sodas and coffee..
The mechanic quickly identified the issue and I was all set ... in and out the door for a GREAT price.... Even more I would have paid more and been just as happy because the service was so AWESOME !!

As all the previous great Yelps attest, the Escondido German Auto Center is awesome!
But who would think that it is not just the hard-working & skilled mechanics who are wonderful, but also the very competent and efficient front desk lady named Alex!
She helped me immensely when I was having a prospective VW Beetle that I was contemplating purchasing looked at. Alex was able to offer some advice and even helped steer me in the right direction where some other good deals on cars might be offered.
She is as much a part of the quality of this company as are all the excellent mechanics here.
You know that the German Auto Center is fantastic when you watch as all the Mercedes are driven up and dropped off to be serviced. Yes, there are a lot of these high end cars in North County and many seem to find their way to this shop in Escondido. The Auto Center makes sure to have a high end coffee machine on hand to offer up some gourmet java to their discerning patrons. They are trustworthy and professional. I've gotten hard bitten lately and not been handing out 5 STAR YELPS like I previously seemed wont to do, but in this case, Escondido German Auto Center is worth 5 YELP STARS and more!

So I have been searching for a shop because my car had been shaking a lot, found this place not too far from my home, the service is great i was told they will need to run a diagnostic test to see why could be causing the problem. I couldn't be anymore happy with what they told me and do for me.
After patiently waiting they had told me my Audi was I'm great conditions but only needed new tires. I was released to know it was nothing more serious.
I am more than satisfied with the service and loyalty to the customer

What a great experience my son and I just had at this ahop. Alex at the front desk is a very good communicator. She made us feel comfortable from the first phone call. We had just gotten fleeced at Herman Cook VW in Encinitas. Throwing parts at it. 1200.00 later I decided to rescue the car and give Escondido German Auto a shot. Homerun! I refused to buy a new ECM for 1200.00. Thank you EGA. I will definitely be back for future service.

I took my car here for a regular service since my VW was out of warranty. Derek was super helpful and you can tell they run a very professional shop. He took the time to answer my questions. They washed my car and provided a cold bottled water in my car too! I'll definitely return. I also redeemed a Yelp coupon which was really easy to do. We joked that I drove 35 minutes from where I live just to get a regular service (oil change) but it was totally worth it!

It's been two years and I need to update my review for these guys. Mind you, I've only felt compelled enough in my Yelp experience to write reviews for this business and they continue to be the quality auto repair company I first reviewed that I come back to and refer all my friends and family.
The work they do is always on point and they always wish me a farewell NOT to see me any time soon. And I don't. They are always on time with what they say and so genuinely HONEST, they never end up charging me more than they quoted, usually it's actually less. LESS. Who does that?! EGA.
Every single person I have spoken to is genuinely friendly, personable, and knows my name, as well as all my family members' names (it's like the bar "Cheers" when I visit.") Dustie had even been so kind to volunteer on short notice to speak to some of my kids at work for our Career Day! Alex and Derek are the best front of the line and so awesome with explaining the car issues (even when I called in a frantic panic one morning when my brand new car wouldn't start in the rain, they've steered me in the right direction to get it taken care of) and even when David gives us our complimentary shuttle rides, he is such a pleasant breath of fresh air when having to bring in the car for work.
Believe me when I say, they're the best in the biz.. They do it all.their waiting area is accommodating, they have great marketing deals (check in and get a discount!) and most importantly, they are a fantastic and honest auto repair business and are dedicated to the community and the little things that show they truly care about our business from the friendly calls, cards, and thanks for the surprise EGA air freshener I found in my car that no one was going to mention ;)
Keep doing your thang!

I had a big issue with my 2004 Mercedes E500 with the rear air suspension, etc. I knew it was going to be a very expensive fix. The repairs are only a couple of weeks old so a true 5 star rating would be in two years when the car is still in good shape. But I really appreciated the honesty of Derek and Alex when discussing the issues with my car.
Yes, I spent more than I thought it would cost, and I hope the car lasts 2 plus years more. My only problem with the shop is that they are located pretty far from where I live, but I would not hesitate to bring it back for some other work other than maintenance.

We had an above and beyond positive experience here. We were last minute customers whom they graciously took in with no problem and happily accommodated us. Alex was so wonderful, sweet, intelligent and beyond helpful. Derek was also very helpful and informative. I would absolutely recommend using this business, you will not be disappointed. 5 yelp stars to this awesome staff (and what excellent coffee they have here for their customers).

I can't say I know everything about cars and what might be the best prices but I called around a few shops before getting my car serviced and this place had the best rates. What really helped me make the decision for getting my car serviced here was the service! The people who work here are super friendly and really courteous and helpful.

This is just to share we have had our 2006 WInnebago View which has a factory Sprinter Chassis and MBZ engine serviced two more times at EGA since my first review Each time, the experience is excellent and couldn't be any better. These last two times we waited for our oil change and another visit was an alternator belt. Derek and Alex are so knowledgable and professional. Just to mention, I spent 30 years in the Automotive Industry as an appraiser so I have been in a lot of mechanical shops. These guys stand out in every way.
The attention to detail is outstanding. Even in the waiting room, they provide coffee or tea, comfortable chairs, television, charging stations for electronics, nice and clean bathroom, and a calm atmosphere. I didn't mind waiting for our service on both occasions and was so comfortable, didn't feel in a hurry to leave. Derek remembers your vehicle or when you visit which is pretty remarkable given the fact of how many customers he deals with. I also find that they charge reasonable prices and give you top quality service.

Great place to fix your car!!! Trusted, cheaper than dealer on repairs. They are very nice and do their best to take care of their customers. I have had them fix three things on my Jetta and I have always felt good after. They are my choice when it comes to repairs.

From my previous review of Al's Towing, I ended up at Escondido German Auto Center with a 2008 VW Jetta and blown transmission. Derek et all were very professional and even suggested that I get my work done at a local VW dealer for further warranty support than they could offer. I've moved on from 20+ years of owning VW's, but would easily visit EGAC for any routine maintenance or (hopefully not) repair work that would need to be done. Highly recommend this shop after my experience with them.

I have gone through an extensive list of stelerships and indy shops, for a problem that has been ongoing since i got my car. and these guys by far have been the best, when it comes to fixing and diagnosing problems.
they are honest, don't like to guess what the problem is, instead take the time to identify the problem first.
It has been over 3 weeks since they fixed the problem, and glad to report no recurrence of the problem. there is another indy shop with a similar name, stay clear of that shop if you are trying to fix major problems.
Keep up the honest good work guys!!!!

Where to begin... The first time I dealt with Escondido German Auto, I had just moved to California and my GTI's clutch stuck to the floor. The car needed to be towed and I had no idea where to take it. I called around to all the local shops, but the customer service, professionalism, and knowledge of Derrick, Dustie, and Will is what got me. I decided to travel a little further for my maintenance to have these guys do the work.
They called me with updates every step of the way, and even recorded and uploaded videos of the leaks from my transmission so that I knew exactly what they were talking about. They were patient while I worked through a difficult financial situation to get the work done, and provided me all the quotes that I requested while trying to find the best way to get the work done.
That was over 2 years ago, and now I take my car there for everything that I need done. I even go to them for oil changes now, which I used to do myself, because they do a full vehicle health inspection which was emailed to me. The report included a status of every aspect of the vehicle, notes on any issues, and also pictures to go along with said notes.
These guys are the best of the best, very personable, honest, and know how to satisfy their customers. As long as I'm in Southern California, I'll travel the distance for EGA.

After owning multiple BMWs, I'm use to just going to the dealership for service. However, I've never owned a BMW after my warranty expired. So, after some research I found this great service center for my first after factory warranty repair. I received a great quote over the phone, appointment date that worked for me and a loaner vehicle. We were treated with a smile and incredible customer service. The work was completed on time and with in the original price quote. I think I found my new after dealer service center!

I was in a bind and they pulled through to help me out!

After taking my cars to the dealer, then an independent shop across town, I found Escondido German Auto and have been with them ever since. Great service and knowledgeable staff. They've done all the work on my E39 M5, my wife's 325iT, and my former M3 race car. Now it's hard to trust anyone else with my cars, and I'm reluctant to buy a non-German car because I would have to find another shop.

German cars are like bitchy supermodels...they will go the mile but need attention and proper care!!
My car needed a 40,000 service which is extensive and required DSG transmission service. All service was done properly and the quote was detailed with all the work to be performed. The cost was reasonable and within $100/$150 of dealer quotes.
Thank you Derrick for explaining all procedures and providing a straightforward approach to car repair. The service took a few hours but most of that was probably my fault for showing up late!
Do you own a German "supermodel"? Take it here and you won't be disappointed!! Derrick will make sure all procedures are completed and if anything is wrong, it will be taken care of! I will be back for future service!!

So happy I found this place! My Eos VW needed a new ABS, after calling a few different mechanics who were reluctant and seemingly annoyed to quote me over the phone, Derek was genuinely helpful and even looked into getting a repaired ABS, an option I had not yet considered. I decided to get a new one because I needed my car ASAP and it was still less expensive than anywhere else I had called. They gave me a follow up call to see how my car was doing a week later, which I appreciated. The second time I took my car they insisted I go to the VW dealership for the services the warranty still covered, something they could've ignored for business purposes. They're really honest and friendly, dread when my car breaks but I'm glad I have a great place to take it to now!

Okay, here's the update...
"Will" faithfully stayed in touch with me, and kept me posted on the status of the repairs. Really appreciated knowing what was happening in a language that made simple-sense or of what was a complicated matter.
EGAC even took the time to PHOTOGRAPH the problems, which made understanding things measurably easier.
They fixed everything wrong with my car, and even had it smogged for me. They even went so far as to fix my cock eyed headlight, and replace a brake lamp!
Their shop is operating-room clean. Alex (front desk) is a pleasant young lady who really "gets it" with smart phone skills.
When I compared the price paid to the work performed, I know for a fact that I was charged a very fair price.
I have already recommended them to my employer for upcoming service on his Mercedes-Benz.
I can't say enough about how impressed I am with this shop. If your car is German-made, talk to these guys first.

I have been working with Derek who seems to be quite knowledgeable. We got off to a rough start because of a lack of understanding on my part, but after he sat down with me and took the time to explained step by step the process of the repairs needed I was able to see the full picture to rectify the problems on my 2003 VW Passat which I just recently purchased. He ensured that the repairs were done from a priority standpoint, allowing me to choose the area's of repairs that were needed first. EGA is very much attention to detail, not only in customer service but also in the quality of workmanship. I'm a 60 year old retired Marine and would recommend EGA to any and all active or retired service personal.

Derek is the man! I took a 13 year old car I just bought to the dealer for a once over. Then to Derek a week later. Derek found rear suspension components, idler pulleys and body damage that the dealer missed and tended to all of my car's needs in two short days. Competent, timely, fair and balanced. Who could ask for anything more? I trust these guys with my car and hope to keep coming to them for years to come. Owning a BMW is not cheap, but EGAC makes it a bit less painful.

I am an old man. I recently called up a former boss (he was my boss in 1977/1978) to check in for old times sake. He said after not hearing from me for 35 years, "oh its the BMW guy." So I guess I am a BMW guy and have been for a long time! After owning BMW's for 35 years, I can share with you, that Escondido German Auto is a GREAT shop!
I bought my first BMW in 1977, a used 1970 model 2002. I loved that car, I removed the a/c and the air pump, installed Autoy springs (much better than the commonly used Miller and Norburn springs which were popular at the time), Bilstein shocks, anti-sway bars, a Supersprint header and exhaust, and wider wheels. Removed the engine myself, had it rebuilt by Quicksilver Race Engines and reinstalled it myself. Did all my own tune ups and maintenance and was constantly in search of 100+ octane gas. It was a great experience.
Then in 1988 I bought a new e28 535i. I had moved to California by that time and left most of the maintenance to Dinan Engineering at their original location in Mountain View. That car received a Dinan Stage IV suspension and saw about 20 track days. It made it to almost 300,000 miles before I sold it. Dinan was always pricey and when they moved much of their operation to Morgan Hill, I started shopping around for another mechanic.
Then there was the e36 M3, the e34 M5 and finally an e39 530i. Over the years these cars have been serviced at local dealers, Edge Racing, and Billy the Wrench (Bill Arnold) in San Rafael.
In 2014 I found myself in Southern California often, so I looked for a mechanic I could count on and go to on a regular basis. I found Escondido German Auto on Yelp and the rest is history. They are the only shop I go to now. As my e39 is getting older, it has required a few repairs including a new abs unit, replacement of gaskets to reduce oil leaks, replacement of a broken brake cable, replacement of the brake reservoir, diagnosis of a tracking and alignment problem, etc. Escondido German has completed all work on a timely basis, completed it correctly the first time and at a reasonable price. They are also nice, approachable and direct in their communication! No snobby BMW hype - just great knowledge, great work, and a love of the car. They care about their work, their clientele and their reputation.
I highly recommend them!

5 stars. Excellent. My 2009 BMW 535i Sport was all jacked up, dreaded "engine fail light' comes on. Take it to dealership = 8k to fix. Actually it was 8k to maybe fix. They were all dumbfounded and clueless so I knew my issues may be complex.
A friend recommended Derek and the guys at Escondido German Auto. Derek FIXED PLUS MORE for less than half. He took pictures of what was wrong, had clear diagnoses, tested everything before giving me the car back. Do you know how many mechanics dont' do that? IT's a lot.
Not to mention got me a loaner. I'm in Murrieta so it's tough to find a good place, Escondio German Auto made my decision easy. I was even thinking about dumping my BMW and getting something more reliable but after finding this shop I'm gonna keep it for another few years. Now my BMW is running great again. Love it! thanks guys

EGA is the real deal when it comes to maintenance for your Deutschland vehicle. I no longer own my BMW's, but, I can say without a doubt that Derek, Dusty and the crew here at EGA are true professionals . What started out as fix for a bad mass air flow sensor a couple of years ago, turned into solid bond where you feel like family and not just another dollar sign. EGA has provided perhaps the best customer service I have experienced with an auto repair facility. In a nutshell:
- Fairly priced
- Attentive, answer all of my questions, keep me informed
- Quality work
- Loaner vehicle
- Friendly and clearly love what they do
- Bend over backwards to make sure I'm satisfied
If you are looking for a place to service your MB, BMW or Porsche, this is the place to go.

Had the check engine come on in my 2009 VW Jetta Wolfi, brought it to EGAC and they informed me there was a warranty extension for a replacement of the intake manifold. They gave me a name and phone number of the service rep at the local VW dealer. They could have just replaced it and I'd have been none the wiser. Saved me hundreds of dollars. Very professional, even take pictures of all issues on car to include on service report.

This was my first experience with them. I had a coolant hose leaking. They were extremely accommodating right from the start. I was told what to expect for time and cost and there were no surprises. Also it was so convenient with them providing shuttle service. I work in Escondido and live in San Diego. I didn't know how I was going to manage that. But with the loaner car service they offered, I had no worries.
I just moved here from across the country in Florida. I was very worried about who I would have work on my car. I have had some bad experiences in the past. My car is 10 years old and I want to make sure to get good service. They have won my loyalty with the very first visit. I feel I have found a team I can trust with my car.

Last year in 2013 my husband and I had bought a very old BMW we paid $1000 on Craigslist from original owner, it was in really good condition but we needed a new radiator and we needed someone to diagnose it to see if there any other problems with it and German automotive did a fabulous job very very reasonable rates in fact I checked around to see if anyone else could give me a radiator, and no one could match their price I checked in Chula Vista Vista,& Oceanside..all three mechanic shops told me that German automotive was giving me a better price than what they can give and the German automotive was going to actually give me the name brand BMW Bosch part, we love them and after our first experience they sent us a nice gift card for just to say thank you. Brought my car in because I was hearing a high squeaking sound coming from my brakes or might be tied into the parking brake.
I described the problem to the service tech and they were able to fit me in to their schedule with out an appointment.
This place is pretty high tech. They did a full health assessment of my car, from fluids, batteries, even tire wear and sent it to my email and most people now days have smart phones so it's pretty convenient to see visually and read the report than to talk about it on the phone. I had some fluids that needed to be changed, but it has no relation to the brake squeaking. They were not able to re-create the noise I was describing but suggested it could be from the excessive amount of brake grease on the pads but was mechanically functioning properly. To clean them up was gonna be about $400 so I passed. Anyway, I still had them change out the fluids. Paid upon pick up, got in my car to back out and as I was making my way around the parking lot, LOUD SQUEEKING.
Pros:
-Friendly Staff
-Free shuttle
-Loaner Cars
-Flexible Scheduling
-Take your car here for regular maintenance.
Cons:
-Don't take your car here for troubleshooting.
**Update: Took my car to another Mercedes mechanic the next day, described the problem I was having, 1.5 hours later and problem fixed. It was the parking brake spring came loose that was creating the squeaking sound. The new mechanic actually listened and saved me $400 bucks on cleaning off some grease that I didn't need to.

I recently moved to Escondido and found Escondido German Auto and its excellent reviews. They first performed a comprehensive service check of my Audi and presented a detailed list of the status of all components, with recommendations for future service, and when to have this done. Entirely without any sales pressure. Very reasonably priced- clearly below Audi service costs, and had the car done the same day, nice and washed. They give the option to text and email reminders, which is very convenient. I took it in to have recommended service performed a few months later, with equally impressive service and customer service. Both times they provided a loaner as well. A very professionally run business, with obviously well trained and competent mechanics, and front office. They make you feel welcome and clearly want you as a loyal customer long term. I strongly recommend these people.

These. Guys. Are. Awesome.
They are the only ones that I would trust to work on my 2003 Audi A4. They know the German cars inside and out.
As an example, I had a really odd squeaking sound coming from the front of the car when turning the steering wheel. My last mechanic didn't notice it and couldn't find the cause when I asked him about it. EGA knew what it was immediately because they know these types of cars inside and out.
I've had them replace fuel filter, fuel pump and oil pump and they provided a loaner car and did very fast, excellent work.
They are great about working with individuals and making sure your questions get answered.

I was attempting to wean my aunt off of her desire to always take her Mini Cooper S to the dealer for service. After some basic Yelping around the Escondido area for a suitable mechanic shop, I came across German Auto Center. From my initial phone contact to the greeting with front counter Will, I felt I had found the right place. We brought in the Mini for an oil change only and that came with a basic safety check according to Will who was informative and very helpful. We left the car with them for a couple of hours (it takes a bit longer the first time you bring in your car to them because of the inspection they do). Upon our return, Will gave my aunt's car a clean bill of health. The shop is high tech and they all seem to know their stuff, my aunt definitely agreed that the next time her car needs some service, she will bring it back to German Auto Center. Or as she put it, "I've never got out of the dealer for under $100 for an oil change, they always find something that 'needs' to be fixed."
Centrally located, if you live in the Escondido area, and easy to get in and out of, this mechanics shop is highly recommended, and not just by me and my aunt, go on, read the other Yelpers on here. One thing to note about German Auto Center, they prefer that you book your appointment two or three days in advance as they are always busy.

I honestly couldn't ask for a better group of mechanics.
I've brought my 07 GTI here two times. The first time I had a lot of electronic problems happening with an A/C issue but they took care of all of it. Took awhile, but at least all of it got done and has been working nicely. One issue was unresolved only because I was getting impatient, but I brought it back and they found it with no problem. Great customer service, great atmosphere. Reasonable prices as well. I would recommend this place to anyone who had a European car. Dustie and Derek really know their stuff.

We own an Audi A3 2010. We recently hit the 45k mark which is a factory recommended oil change. At first, we thought about going to a cheap 'n quick oil change place. I'm damn happy I listened to my gut and went with Escondido German Auto Center.
I had called EGAC a week or so prior to bringing my car in and spoke to Will. He gave me a friendly, fast quote over the phone for the 45k checkup, but was still wrapped up in xmas plans so any commitment had to wait till after.
Post-xmas, I called again to confirm the quote. Will gave me a higher price, but that was because he was looking at the 40k checkup which was more involved. He quickly corrected the mistake and we were back at the original quote. I was able to get the car in the next day and scheduled.
Dropping off the car was a breeze, Will is polite, fast, and professional. The place looked and smelled great, all the mechanics were clean and professional looking as well. We finished the paper work, talked about diagnosing a weird intermittent knock, and I grabbed my bicycle to ride home. Will offered a drop off, but I was happy to ride.
At three on the dot, Will called to say the car was ready for pickup. I hopped on my bicycle and sprinted over. The car was parked and ready to be paid for. Will walked me through the details on the bill, which were the same as when I dropped off the car, and mentioned that the mechanic found out that my main water pump needed replacement. Yikes!
Now, here's the kicker. Had I taken the car to a quick oil-change place to save $40-50 (probably less after all the 'things' one needs in places like that), I would never have been told about my water pump housing fraying and needing replacement.
The best part? Will informed me that he was 99% sure I was still under the manufacturer's warranty for repairing the water pump. He could've sold me on the need for the repair in his shop, but instead was honest, and forthright and suggested I call an Audi dealer immediately to save myself roughly $1000.
So, I will be taking my car to EGAC from now on.
Question is, will you?

From walking in the door the gentlemen here were amazing. Very patient and took the time to explain what was exactly wrong and the process to correct it every step of the way. Their prices were right on par and felt their work went above and beyond. Great experience..they even washed my car for me. exceptionally personalized service.

The best place to take your car in for service. The staff is very friendly. These guys know cars. They also remember their customers. I brought my car because it was making some funny sounds. They evaluated the problem, gave me several options, and had me in and out in an hour. The evaluation was free. How many places do that these days. The new shop has a computer for customer use, a comfy couch, and even wi-fi. For a small business to offer, it is amazing. I take my car her whenever I can because the services is awesome, the prices are fair, and it is nice to support a local small business.

Make an appointment today!
EGA is owned and operated the way I would want my business run. They are honest, extremely knowledgeable, friendly,, reasonable and offer the BEST customer service my husband and I have found in years. They care for our Mercedes S Class and 7 Series BMW. Amazing!
They threw a customer appreciation Oktoberfest with hand made brats and homemade sides. Who has done that for you lately??? And handwritten thank you notes with gift cards?
Love these guys!

Love them! Brought my car in by referral from a friend. and I have to say I was impressed. I initially had taken it to the VW dealership, and they helped assess the damage. I had a torn CV boot, a vaccuum seal leak, and a transmission issue, which worried me due to the info I received from the dealer as far as cost went. We met with Will and another guy (I am so sorry I forgot your name), who greeted us, and took down my info, and noted what the problems were. I left the car there thinking it would be at least a week until I got it back, and that the cost would be extensive compared to my initial quote. I prayed they didn't find anything else! As soon as the car was looked at, I received a call from Will confirming all they had to do, and got my ok of course to proceed. They had a bit of an issue ordering a part, and he called again to update me, as well as letting me know a few ways this could go. I always appreciate the updates, so thank you! :) Car was done in 3 days, good as new, and I have not had any issues since. They even had a follow up call to make sure all was good, and sent me a thank you card afterward, as well. Customer service here was outstanding, and the follow up after will surely keep me as a return customer. I will definitely refer them to anyone else in need. Thanks Escondido German Auto Center! I am so thankful for your service.

Derek & Dustie are the best, hands down!
Been taking my German cars there for several years - they are always honest and very professional. They know everything about German cars (which, believe me, is rare! I had plenty of experience bringing my car to various other shops and they couldn't even figure out what oil to use on it! You'd think!); if you love your car and want it fixed right, do yourself a favor and book an appointment.
Their prices are very reasnoble.(if you have a German, I'm sure you are ready for this) The guys are always very honest about things to be done/fixed with your car; they won't make you replace or fix something that can wait or doesn't have to be replaced at all (hello, Escondido German Auto Repair.!).

These guys are the most honest, professional, knowledgeable, and hardworking guys I've ever known in the auto shop industry. They will look at your car and tell you what you need to fix, how much it costs, how long it takes, and what you DON'T need to fix, and give you car advice. Most places don't do the last 2 things I listed, but they do here!
I love that they don't try to jip you by telling you that your car is a piece of junk every time you bring it in. Plus they're young and need the support, so let 'em earn a buck or two! :) They are very well priced for their service.
I came here to service my Audi--they only do German cars, which is a plus for me. I didn't want to go to the stealership, because the last time I went there they didn't fix the problem and kept my car for 3 days. These guys did my service in an hour, plus another super short visit for my oil change (because my schedule was a bit crazy, I couldn't do it all on the same day). They were very accommodating, and I was able to get in on the same day I called.
On another visit, I asked them to fix my power window lock for the back windows--they ordered the part and had me in and out in less than an hour.
They're quick and efficient, true to their word, have outstanding customer service, and take care of your car. Plus, they can give you a ride to anywhere nearby instead of sitting on their super comfy couch (which I have also done) or if you have a service that takes longer, they have a loaner car. :)
LOVE THESE GUYS. They'll be my mechanics for life.

A few days later from my original post about German Automotive in Escondido, sure enough a part came through for us for under 300.00, with tax, part, & new air filter it came to 305.00, as oppose to over 700 for the part alone from good old Germany, thank you Derek for your help, we were scard out of our minds because my husband & I share this one car & we at this time do not have any resources to purchase another one yet, so having Derek at German Automotive in Escondido go the extra mile for us was appreciated to say the very least. I carry their business cards with me, incase someone with a foreign car like us needs to be worked on, I am ready to pay it forward. Thank you again German Automotive

Here is just an update. I had to take the car in to get the low beam headlight changed. No appointment, I walked into the office and Derek and Will were in the office. They remembered my name and had me pull it in front of the bays and took care of it in 5 minutes. In this days in age where your neighborhood mechanic is only concerned with making a buck, these are not. They are about making their customers happy and HAPPY I AM.
I can't tell you how impressed I am with their customer service. Keep up the good work guys. You rock!!!

Took my BMW -99 E46 323i to EGA. I dropped it off in the afternoon, they hooked me up with a loaner and the car was done the following day. I have had a problem with low RPM power/stalling for a while, and recently the check engine light came on. Derek and the team found the issue and also did some preventive replacement of a part that was about to go out. After this the car runs great again! I will absolutely take my cars back to EGA the next time!

If I could give a higher score I would. This shop is GREAT! When my son's mini started having problems starting up at the same time as he was about to have knee surgery I was so stressed out. Once his surgery was done and he was recovering well I started looking for a shop to fix the mini. This shop came highly recommended. Now I am not the most patient person and I am a little bit of a control freak (so I've been told). Derek walked me though fixing the mini and he was awesome. He called me everyday to let me know what was happening. My son picked up the car and it is running perfect.

These guys are clearly skilled mechanics. But this review isn't about their ability to get the job done, it's about they way they treat people.
In a day where customer service is usually an issue (not so much a priority) and where many auto repair shops are seemingly willing to over charge for jobs (call around and get 5 quotes and see how pricing fluctuates), these guys know how to treat consumers, and their pricing is beyond fair.
In fact, after getting an initial quote from them they actually called me back later with an apology and a second lower quote based on a pricing error.
Anyhow, they don't just fix problems, they educate you. They provide information on what's wrong (in my case also sent me pictures of the problem as well as a written explanation).
They even went out of their way to pick me up and drop me off in Carlsbad from Escondido because it was most convenient for me.
Upon completion of the job my car appeared to have been washed (the dealer always asks me if I want it washed - as if some of us prefer not to have a clean car?) and I actually received a thank you note for my business.
Bottom line is if you're tired of guessing if you're getting a good deal, wondering if the job will be done right, and are sick of all the back and forth that typically goes on when trying to get something handled on your vehicle just skip dealing with all the headaches and show up here.
These guys will get you dialed in.

EGA don't deserve a 5-Star Rating because they deserve a BIG TEN!!! Unfortunately, that is the highest allowed by yelp.
My wife and I took a day off and drove 102 miles (one way) just to see what makes this place and people deserve a perfect score on
.
We met Will and Derek and right there, we experienced their courtesy, respect and professional approach with a potential customer. From just the initial meeting alone, I already know I will trust them with my 2002 BMW M5 E39. Even the way they test drive cars, very careful and professional.
Are we going to drive another 204 miles round trip just to have our two bmw's service here? DEFINITELY!
I have driven across the lower 48 states and Canada, this place and people including the mechanic who worked on the car all day are just SUPER! The mechanic did not just replaced the suspension part and did the alignment. And as long as he is not happy with the alignment, he kept on putting it back up on the ramp to make sure that the car owner is satisfied! I am very happy with the alignment - PERFECT!
I serviced my 2001 330i for 8 years and that is how I can measure their capabilities and professional commitment to provide excellent service and satisfy their customers.
What they have done is raise their standard of servicing German autos to a very high degree that it would be EXTREMELY difficult for others to reach.
See you soon Will and Derek!

GAC is the BEST!
They are honest, friendly, reasonable and skilled... Not much else I could ask for.
Our car seems to be quite a finicky one and the service dept where we bought it seemed content to keep having us come back to see them (and never really fix the problems so they wouldn't come back.)
GAC was the only shop who succeeded and now the car drives like the dream it was meant to be.
I only wish they were closer to me ! If you own anything German you owe it to yourself to bring it to see GAC for service.

Super HONEST! We live in Carlsbad and our Mercedes broke down in Escondido at the beginning of the year. We called them late on a Sunday when everyone else was closed and they were there to help us. I think they guy even came in from home to meet us at the shop.
They described the problem with the vehicle and explained what needed to be done right away, what could wait until later and what would not be worth fixing at all. My favorite part is that they took video of the problem and posted it to Youtube so I could view exactly what they were going to fix (the ball joints in this case were totally worn down).
My husband describes them as "young, skilled, intelligent and transparent". They are dedicated to excellent customer service and it shows.
We've been driving to Escondido for ever repair since the beginning of the year and they continue to provide excellent service!

I went on vacation for a week and came home to a good size puddle of oil underneath my Audi. Even though I had no appointment and brought it in on the Tuesday after Labor Day, they still managed to find the leak and repair my car the same day. I was blown away with the level of service I received on such a hectic day and again having no appointment. That just does not happen anymore these days. Will was very professional keeping me updated on the status of my car, and Derek made sure the repairs happened ASAP. Cheers guys, you are my chosen shop for life. And the car wash and shuttle ride all the way to Vista was way above and beyond too. Thanks again.

I just purchased a used 2001 Audi TT convertible, pretty low miles and fun to drive. I had it about 2 months before starting to have electrical issues, which I ignored too long. I didn't want to drop a huge amount to get it fixed, so going to a dealer was not an option. It took longer than I had expected, but there was quite a bit to fix. They kept in constant contact to let me know what to expect, what was the cost and their recommendations. They do know their German cars and this will now be the only place I take mine, and I'll do it sooner rather than later.

First off-I've never taken the time to review anything. But the service here is so exceptional--I just had to tell others.
Let me begin--
About month ago I finally brought my dream car-- 2001 Porsche Boxster S. I bought it up in LA and had it inspected by a Porsche mechanic before purchasing. There were known issues, but I got the price down even more because of it.
I did some searching and Escondido German Auto seemed to have some outstanding reviews. So I called Escondido German Auto and spoke with Derek and made an appointment. From the first time I drove in I was treated so well; it was how you wish all businesses were run. Derek remembered my appointment and we went through the laundry list of issues. I got a complete print out with surprisingly fair price.
Wow was I impressed on how well he knows his stuff! He's like an encyclopedia of German Auto knowledge.
A few days later I got a call from Derek--he said are you near a 7-11? Scratching my head I replied ..'No'. He then told me that I should go and buy a lottery ticket as today was my lucky day--turns out the over 1/2 of that laundry list of repairs had had already been done! Some mechanics would have fudged around and still bump up the price--Not Escondido German Auto--Honest as the day is long!
Derek knew I was anxious to get my baby back-- so he even stayed late to get it done (on a Friday!).
We were waiting on some parts...so I brought it back the next week. He again stayed late to get it done. That's customer service!
Let me sum it up--You want to be treated with respect, have the repair done right the first time for a great price--Do yourself a favor and go to Escondido German Auto. I've got to say Derek and crew are the best--OH I didn't mention- they wash your car too!!

I needed an oil change for my 2005 BMW 330ci. My step dad also drives a 330ci and gets his serviced at KB auto sports in San Marcos. I called KB autosport as well as All German Auto (also in escondido) for quotes on an oil change. KB wanted $150 bucks (which even my step-dad was a little skeptical about) and all German wanted $110. Escondido German Auto quoted me at just under $100. Because their quote was the best and their google reviews were perfect (30/30 on google+ reviews) I took my car here.
I liked that they were a smaller car shop that felt more intimate and less corporate. The guys were very nice and giving off really honest vibes. It also helped that my old high school buddy's older brother worked there, so i felt even better about getting honest work done.
I went in for an oil change, but i had some other issues i kinda wanted to look into and gave them a heads up about. First, a couple screws had come loose under my rear bumper and a piece was coming loose ( a minor issue, but something i wanted taken care of none-the-less). And second, there had been a screeching noise that i could hear coming from my rear wheels when i would drive with my window down.
I left my car with them while i went to the mall with my girlfriend. They called me about 45minutes later with their diagnostics. They fixed my loose bumper piece free of charge (i was very pleased with that), and let me know the noise i was hearing was my rear brakes. They also let me know that a couple of my engine belts were worn and they recommended replacing them.
They were straight forward in their diagnostics and not pushy with their recommendations. I called my step-dad to get a second opinion and he agreed it was best to get the repairs done to avoid the risk of getting stranded on the side of the road if one of my belts blew out.
At this point i was still at the mall. I called German Auto back and let them know they could replace my rear brakes and engine belts in addition to the oil change they had already done, and I had my car back later that afternoon. I was really surprised how quick they had everything done. I was expecting to have my car in the shop overnight.
That's not all though. A few weeks later, I got a thank you card from them in the mail with an In-n-Out gift card in it. That was really impressive. I had meant to leave a yelp review sooner but had gotten sidetracked. After the thank you/in-n-out gift card, I knew i needed to leave my review!
My "check engine soon" light came on while i was driving home from tahoe and ill prolly give them a call about it later today.

Dustie, Derek, and Will take it above and beyond seriously. These guys are like family and it shows... always have a smile, know your name, and tell you the truth (both good and bad) about your vehicle. They are upfront about thier service and costing, let you know what needs to be done asap with the knowledge and care you would take with your own car or VW Eurovan in my case. AND THEY HAVE LOANER CARS WHAT!?! No joke, not having to rent a car or wait all day at the shop is amazing, plus no one else does that anymore but these guys do... like I said above and beyond! Great place to take your vehicle.

I have an Audi A4 Avant Quattro with the 1.8 litre turbo engine.
I brought it to Derrick and Will who seemed professional. I spoke with both
of them extensively regarding the issues and work to be done on my Audi.
In August 2013 I had them change the timing belt which is a chore.
Well when you are that deep into the project it makes absolute sense to change any parts that are maintenance items like: seals, gaskets, hoses, belts, idler pulleys etc.
I had an oil leak ever since I acquired the Audi shortly before bringing it to Derrick and Will.
Shortly after visiting EGA, I was doing a routine engine oil and filter change and noticed a lot of coolant stains on parts and hoses coming from the expansion tank.
This leak has been there a long time and I was surprised that the mechanics did not see this.
Changing out the expansion tank, the coolant was brownish green. Obviously old.
What is most upsetting is the fact that Escondido German Auto charged me for purple coolant but did NOT put it in.
I flushed the coolant system and replaced it with the proper coolant.
EGA cannot be trusted, and I could not go back to them or recommend them to anyone.

My wife's Benz sprung a transmission leak this past New Year's Eve. I called them in the morning and they gave me an estimate over the phone. The quote was less than the dealership and comparable to most independent mechanics. However, the shops in my area could only give me vague "guesstimates." I brought the car in at 1 p.m. and within five minutes, Derek had it on the rack. He came back a few minutes later to tell me a plastic transmission valve had failed causing the leak. They had the OEM part in stock! Since it was New Year's Eve, i didn't think the car would be ready until the 2nd. My car was ready two hours later! Good work, up front estimates, no upsells, great service, clean shop, and reasonable labor rates....I'll be coming back.

My experience at Escondido German Auto Center has been exceptional. Any car owner can't help it to be skeptical about auto repair stores (ESPECIALLY if you own a European car not under dealership warranty). These guys are very straight forward on informing you what is really going on with your car. They even have a cool technological feature where they will email you a video on what and where the problem is located. My son recently needed a lot of work done to his car. First he took it to the dealer which of course the price was extremely high. Then we were giving the name of a place to go by a competing business, that gave them high praise for their work. Because the car is a VW German made car, you can not take it to any one. Since my son had to go to work, it was up to me to try to get it fixed. First of all as a woman I usually deal with car techs who treat me differently from male counter parts. And normally over charge, talk car languish way over my head, or simply take advantage of my lack of knowledge. The customer service was out standing! And they explained every to me so even I understood with my limited knowledge. Not only was the customer service GREAT by all the tech (not just one). But the price was so much better. This place is for us usually mistreated females, but for any one in need of service of their car. When customer service is great and prices too! Return business and word of mouth is a credit to any business. So nice to know some business stand behind Excellence! Thank you Escondido German Auto Center for a surprising experience. If more company's practiced your ethic's customer confidence would be restored.

This was my first experience with GAC, but it will absolutely not be my last. The window had stopped working in my Audi A4, and the coolant light was going on. Derek and the other mechanics were wonderful-- professional, courteous, and very knowledgeable. They communicated with me every step of the way, and completed the repairs in a timely fashion for a very reasonable price. They had also done a complimentary inspection on my car to let me know the car's overall health-- things I would need to be aware of in future, etc. I've had some wonderful experiences with car mechanics over the years, but nothing has matched this level of dedication and care! When I arrived back to pick up my car, Derek took the time to walk me through everything he had found, showed me exactly where on the cars things would need work, and even prioritized the problems so I would know how to budget. Again, I cannot possibly speak highly enough of these mechanics! So, so recommended.

Dustie at German auto Center is an amazing owner and technician who holds nothing back when it comes to service. I have brought my 530 i in there to be repaired, or checked out several times to know why something was happening to it. This is the most honest, reliable and reasonably priced shop Ive ever known. Never go to the dealership, go to Dustie!! One time I brought my car in because it was misfiring. It needed a coil replaced and although he didnt have the part right then, he took the coil from his own car and put it in mine so that I had a car to take care of the business I needed to do that day! I was shocked and so impressed!! And his service is very fast. Oh yeah, did I mention he knows his cars too!!! You will be VERY HAPPY if you go there!
Thanks Dustie for all you do to take care of my 530i.
Signed,
Chris L. p.s. my car has 250,000 miles on it and runs amazing!!

It's great to see an alternative to using a dealership for repairs! If you have the time to meet Dustie, you will immediately feel at ease and know you are in good hands. Dustie took the time to explain his diagnosis and is knowledgeable when it comes to German automobiles It's also a nice feeling to support a small business as there days most repair shops are corporate owned. I highly recommend German Auto Center for all your mechanical needs!

I absolutely had to write a review for this mechanic shop.
I e-mailed this shop looking for a pre purchase inspection for a used BMW in Escondido. The hitch was that I lived in Arizona and needed them to be through in the inspection because I was buying it sight unseen...Will e-mailed me right away and stated they would be more than happy to complete this service for me. After a few e-mails exchanges I felt comfortable having this car inspected by their team. I personally talked to Will on the phone voicing my concerns about not seeing the car before I purchased and shipped it, he went above and beyond for me; e-mailing me pictures, writing up a personal report on all cosmetic issues and delivered a stellar mechanical report. He is timely, friendly and through, delivering a type of service I just don't find anymore ANYWHERE.
Thank you all at Escondido German Auto for a very pleasant experience. I was surprised at your level of professionalism and personalized service.
Many thanks,
Erika

These guys are class acts. They are very straight forward, honest and hard working. After being disappointed 4 times with 4 different VW dealers in San Diego, I found German Auto and they have been a blessing. Very reasonable and their quality of work is impeccable - this shop is highly recommended to anyone that owns a German car. A+++++++

My dad used to take my '00 Beetle to German Auto Center back when he paid my bills. Now that I'm an adult and pay my own bills, GAC is the only place I will take my '08 Jetta. Their prices are great, they're upfront and honest, they're quick and they're not bad to look at. Pretty much everything you want out of a mechanic.

X5 had some issues with A/C. long story short...the team here not only fixed my A/C problem, but a laundry list of other things i had no idea was going on. The car now drives better than it did when i bought it from the dealer brand new. I feel confident, the team here knows exactly what they're doing, and will stand behind their work. Do yourself a favor...these are your go to experts on german cars. no one else. period. btw...they also have loaner cars. Not something you'll typically find outside a dealership.

THese guys are pretty awesome! They did our 100K mile maintenance service on our VW Jetta. They were hell of allot cheaper than the VW dealerships. Personal service, and genuinely care about the customer. THey have really good rapport with my husband, we're really excited we have a reliable place to bring in our Jetta for all of our needs, thankgod because I hate the dealer!

Escondido German Auto Center doesn't do any advertising; all of their business is by "word of mouth". So, if you have a German car in need of any type of repair, you cannot go wrong with service at Escondido German Auto Center they will have my business for as long as I own my European cars.
If you are looking for an honest and reliable mechanic to take your German car to for repairs, look no further! I am happy to highly recommend Escondido German Auto Center. They are the best German car repair shop in Southern California.
As a female, I feel that I can trust them with their diagnosis of my cars. I have been taking my cars to them for repairs over the past several years and I feel that they have always been honest and fair with their diagnosis and pricing. They are very reliable; they always follow up with a call to let you know what is going on with your car and when it is going to be ready. Their service is awesome and I've always received my car back on the day promised. They also provide a shuttle service or a loaner car if need be!

GAC is the best. After years of problems with my Jetta and spending a ton of money at the dealership, a friend recommended these guys and I will never take my car anywhere else. Not only was the guy on the phone super friendly and helpful, but both Dustie and Derek took time to explain my cars situation to me. They were able to help me figure out the most cost effective way to deal with it. I was even given one of the loaner cars to drive while they had mine. Just that took a huge load off my mind while my car was being worked on. Honest guys and a great experience all around.

I don't normally write reviews, but these guys are worth it. They gave us a price about 40% less than the dealer. Skeptical, we decided to go ahead with it (money talks...). Both Darrel and Dustie provided fantastic service through great communication, expertise, timeliness, and a ride to pick up the car. When we picked it up the car, they showed us a box with our old parts and explained in detail what had gone wrong. Give these guys a try...you will not be disappointed!

When you need a tune up or your car breaks down, this is the place to take your baby. The mechanic there, Dustie, is an honest, hardworking, fair guy that will treat you like you're a family member. He is thorough and highly experienced. I purchased a lemon of craiglist and he fixed everything on my VW Golf. He did it all in one day. Also, when it didn't pass smog, he was able to fix all the problems so it passed:) If you drive German, take it here because these guys know what they're doing. I refer all my friends and family here.

Just had an 80k service done on my 2010 Jetta TDI, with DSG trans and saved about $200 from the dealer price for the same thing. They were able to diagnose and repair a wheel bearing issue that had bugged me for a long time and the dealer couldn't identify at the last service. Competent, friendly, and efficient service and true German car nuts. I appreciate that you can actually talk to the tech and not have to communicate through a service writer.

Really glad we found them - have an old Audi and some shops won't even work on it due to its age. They quickly diagnosed problem, fixed it at reasonable cost, and checked with us later to make sure everything is OK. thanks to Dustie, Derek and Will for great service.

I've spent years trying to find a good mechanic for my Mercedes C230, and so glad to say that I found these guys! Spoke with Derek over the phone, and after having read many 5 star reviews, decided to take my car in for a "B" service! NOT ONLY WERE THESE FOLKS MORE THAN FAIR with their charges, but they were so thorough and even went above and beyond all expectations by trying to defog my headlights, and all free and without me even asking! They are honest and very hard working and I'll be referring all my friends to these folks! NO NEED TO LOOK ANY FURTHER, THESE GUYS are the BEST!

This place is great! I had a simple brake repair and Dustie came in WAAAY under the dealership price (of course). But that's not all. Dustie was awesome! So easy to work with, very friendly, did great work. And he accommodated my need to come in the day after Thanksgiving. The work was done on time and for the price I was quoted. Absolutely no hassle! I knew I was getting good work for the right price and that he wasn't marking things up (for a female this is so important). I would recommend Dustie's work without reservation.

Seriously, this is the best mechanic I have EVER been to. They are honest, informative, diligent, concerned, caring, amazing. I was about ready to get screwed over by another German auto mechanic when I call Escondido German Auto. They had my car picked up and offered to asses my 2000 Audi TT for a very fair price. I had read the reviews on yelp before calling them so I felt confident that they wouldn't screw me. I am totally surprised at how these guys went above and beyond my expectation. They kept me informed every step of the way. They listened to me and really cared about what I had to say. Best of all they fixed the problem with my car for much less than what I would have paid anywhere else. They even sent me a thank you card with a gift card enclosed. I should have been the one sending them the thank you and gift card. I would recommend Escondido German auto for anyone who is looking for a mechanic anywhere in the San Diego area. They are very accommodating! Derek and Wil, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I will be a returning customer.

Brian is an amazing mechanic and a good friend. He goes the extra mile to find out what problems I'm having with my car. He's also helped my boyfriend with his '87 ZR1 corvette countless times and always given his the best deal. Bryan has helped me a few times with my 2004 PT Cruiser and has done an excellent job. I would definitely recommend D Mac's Auto Repair to anyone who has any issue with any kind of car they have. Byran sure knows his stuff.

If you're not a mechanic, finding an honest, reliable professional one is like looking for the winning slot machine in a casino- you know there one around somewhere but usually you waste time and money and keep going back! Not anymore, D Mac's is the jackpot. Genuine mechanics who let you know up front what needs to be done, how much and if it's worth it. Honest, old fashioned value from mechanics who really enjoy what they do. Give D Mac's a try, if you don't agree, I'll rescind this review.

I've brought the four different vehicles I've owned over the years to this shop- and every time, Brian knows what he's talking about, how to fix it, is reasonably priced, but also beyond willing to explain what the issue is. No more vague problems of not knowing what's really wrong with my car or not understand what was actually fixed. Brian takes the time to find the true issue, but he fixes it right and tells me what happened and how to fix it make, answering all my questions. I recommend this mechanic shop to all my family and friends because then, like me, you won't want/need to go anywhere else

I have been going to DMac's for over 15 years. Brian is one of the best mechanics I have ever met. I have classic cars and normal everyday drivers, they all go to Brian. It may be a small shop but they can do it all. He is honest and will tell you what needs to be done to your vehicle and do the work at a good price. I looked around along time before I found DMac's and they are the only shop that I let work on my muscle cars.

D.Mac’s Automotive
Picture this, you walk in, you are promptly greeted with a smile and a sincere how can I help you today? You tell them your cars problem and they quickly access the problem and hand you a quote. No you’re not dreaming. This is what happens everyday at D.Mac’s Automotive, that’s why they have become kind of a local landmark, if you mention the name, someone always responses, hey I know that place, and he works on my cars. Mac as he’s called is Dennis MacDonald (now you get where the D.mac comes from) He and his wife Cheri believe in good old fashioned customer service (something a lot of places have forgotten about) their motto: HONESTY IN AUTOMOTIVE. Did someone say Pontiac? This is D.Mac’s specialty, from restoration repairs, parts and advice you will see, if you have been to the local race track or drag strip, Cruising Grand on Friday night or at one of the local Classic car shows, one name is sure to come up, D.mac’s automotive. Mac is well known for his ability to fine tune these gentle old metal beasts and let them show off their sleek and gentle side, while on the other hand, he can bring the monster in them alive making them a thunderous fire breathing, competitor shaking in their boots machine, I’ve seen it, it has been done!

I'm not from around here. I am from ND and I can normally fix up my car myself. But when it comes to me needing to take it across the country on a big move I didn't want to put my break pads and my disks on by myself. I called around and Dmac was the cheapest i could find. As soon as i got my car there he was outside waiting and told me to hop out and he could take it from there. He let me know i could walk around and that it would be done within an hour. An hour later i came back and he was all done. I paid him, he drove my car around the parking lot for a second to make sure it was safe to drive and I was off! He was a very funny sweet guy. I would recommend to anyone! Great service!
