They replaced a radiator in our Highlander for 400.00 less than the dealership's price.
Don went out of his way to get it done in time for our trip. We will definitely be back!
Thanks for the great honest service!!

They did exactly what I asked! Just wanted a simple inspection of a pre-purchase on a Subaru, #1 - Check for oil leaks, this car was being sold from a Broker.
They got me in right before lunch even though I was late because of the auto broker. I asked if they could just check for leaks first & then they could finish after lunch if it was good. IT WAS A MESS! Head gasket leaks like crazy & transmission too. It took them only 10 minutes to find all of this & save me THOUSANDS!
Go here...good guys who get the job done, even if they have to go to lunch 10 minutes late.

I just moved to Dublin and my car needed to be checked out. I dreaded looking for a new mechanic. Im female, and an automotive engineer. I tend to have male techs speak to me as if I'm dumb as a rock, which makes me want to slap them.
This was not the case at Tri Valley Automotive. Not only did they listen to me as I explained the problem (in my own quirky way...I don't work on Toyotas!) but they fixed the problem, advised some other services I needed based on my current needs and a few hours later my car was running better than it had since I purchased it.
Tri Valley did not up sell me any unneeded services, do any unnecessary repairs or demean me as a woman..they are the kind of shop you want to send your sister, wife, mother or daughter to get her car fixed.
They are really organized, clean and have an impressive customer service program. I wish my old shop was this put together! I would still be in business :)
Thank you guys! I look forward to working with you again, under more favorable circumstances, like a nice oil change.

I have taken my Prius here for oil change and inspection. Don does a great job at explaining what will be done and getting it done in a timely fashion. He does not talk down to you and he does what he says he will do. A+++ I will come here again.

Don takes great of both of our cars. What I like about his shop and service is that it is fair prices and here is never any BS. He doesn't make me feel dumb for not knowing what's wrong with my car. Great guy, great service.

I would give zero stars if I could!! I'm so frustrated with this place that I created a yelp account just to warn people about this place!
I'm all about supporting small businesses and this place had decent reviews so I figured I would give them a try.
I called them up this morning and received a quote from Don for an oil change on the make and model of my car and made an appointment for an hour later.
I showed up about twenty mins early and parked in front of the garage because there was nowhere else to park. The kid who greeted me was nice and friendly, and said my car was fine where it was parked and that Don will be back from a test drive shortly.
Don arrived and greeted me abrasively and I felt like I was an inconvenience on his day, but he has good reviews so whatever. I followed him into his office where he asks for all of my personal info first and then asks about my car.
Then he asks "Do you want regular oil or synthetic?" I'm thinking in the back of my head...ummm your the expert and should know that my car only takes synthetic. Then he clarified with me 2 or 3 different times that I want synthetic oil, to the point where I had to say that my car is only supposed to have synthetic. So he prints a quote of $65, expensive but ok fine and I hand him the key.
As I'm walking out and passed my car I noticed the door open and the kid inside trying to start my car. I have a Nissan Murano so all you have to do is push down on the brake and push the start button, that's it as long as the key is in your possession. I start my car like this every day by leaving the key in my purse. You don't even have to put the key in the key holder because of the sensor.
I'm asking the guy what he did because now my car is displaying an alert that it wasn't recognizing my key, and he replied "not a damn thing!" And proceeded to ignore my request for my key back, and got out of my car and went to Don's office.
Don comes out and is having the same trouble as the younger guy. The younger guy says "it's not recognizing her key which is what I explained 3 different f****ing times and stormed off. Great customer service guys. Now a car is honking behind us because they can't get through because they can't start my car and it's in the middle of the driveway.
Don stated "I don't know what's wrong but we can try to fix it, maybe it's your battery." First of all the battery is fine because I already changed it a month ago, and second of all I've had the same key for 4 years and never had a problem so this is a crazy odd coincidence that all of a sudden there is a problem.
So I get my key back, started my car and stated "OMG it's f***ing magic!" And drove off.
If you can't even start my car and have an attitude about it, and don't even know what kind if oil to use...then you don't deserve to overcharge me for an oil change or touch my car.

I wanted to get some work done on my Miata, as the clutch had recently started to fail. I went online and purchased a clutch kit from one of the online vendors. I also bought a used transmission from a parts dismantler, figuring that if the transmission was coming off, I might as well take care of some other modifications at this point.
I called Tri Valley Auto to see if they could do the work for me. Don was confident that it wouldn't be a problem. He gave me a quote for labor and asked me to bring in the car, so he could take it for a diagnostic test drive. I dropped off the transmission, when my wife came to pick me up. I was still waiting for the clutch to arrive in the mail.
As luck would have it, UPS changed their delivery date, so my car sat around over the weekend. Finally Monday morning, I was able to drop off the clutch to the shop. My car was ready to be picked up by the end of the day. There were some additional parts and fluid added to the total, but we had talked about that work being done in advance, so it was no big surprise. (He didn't even add labor time to install the new seals.) The labor quote was EXACTLY what he originally quoted me. I paid for the work over the phone by credit card and picked up the car after hours on my way home from work. The car ran beautifully! A couple of days later, I swung by the shop to pick up my old transmission.
My experience with this shop was nothing short of stellar. I would not hesitate for a second recommending this shop to a friend.

Took my Passat to the dealer to take care of a recall item. Next thing you know I am being told I needed new front and back brakes (over $600). Called a couple of other places and was quoted that price and even higher. Called Don at Tri-Valley Automotive and got an education. He told me that with brakes you should be quoted a price without an inspection as there can be quite a bit of difference in what work needs to be done. Liked what he said and brought the car in for an inspection. Sure enough I ended up only having to do the rear brakes for just over $200. One of Don's points was that you have to find a mechanic you can trust and now I have one. Definitely will recommend Don to my friends.

We have been taking our cars to Tri-Valley Auto for a few years now for routine services. Lately, though, Don's staff has expanded and when I bring the car in for an oil change they are getting more aggressive about pushing for additional repairs. I caught them trying to push an unneeded repair on my vehicle: I brought my car in for an oil change and got the (now expected) call that more work needed to be done. However, the mechanic (Mike?) was unable to describe what would happen to the car if the work wasn't done. They said there was fluid splash on the undercarriage, however I checked later and there was not. When I took the car for a second opinion, the shop found none of the problems that Tri-Valley Automotive had described. Their prices aren't bad, but beware of the upsell! I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Great company! We brought our van to Don we had an idea what was wrong but no idea what the cost would be just $77.00 for the repair! We will bring our fleet in for all of our service needs from now on!
Thank you for your honesty and professionalism.

So sad. A parent's worst nightmare is to have their teenager have the terrible experience that I had here. I don't know if it was because i was a young girl who was being stereotyped as inexperienced, or what, but I was given an offer that I knew immediately was fishy, served with unprofessional service, and when I compared Don's pricing to another mechanic's quote, my intuition fared me well.
I made an appointment to get a tune up for my car during the afternoon. Four hours later, I get a call saying that my oil, air filters, brake pads, needed to be changed and that the work would come to a grand total of around 2,000.00. No work was done to my car within these four hours. I was called almost before the shop was closing, and was then met with a strange proposition, which was that my car would have to be worked on in the next morning, and I could get a rental car until then, paid for -- by Don. There was an attempt to place me in a tight situation because I was told that Hertz was about to close, his shop was about to close, but it just made no sense to me. It takes half an hour to check most of the things that Don said needed to be fixed, so why was there such a delay?
That in itself wouldn't have been so uncomfortable, if it had not been for after politely declining the offer, being met again, aggressively, not kindly, but aggressively with the same offer, twice. Even after I declined, "so you want the rental car then?" "...no." "You're getting the rental car." "...uh...no."
And the communication before I picked up my car, was unprofessional, and a mess. Within those four hours of my "tune up," I wasn't called in the middle to know the status of the service or how long I had before I needed to pick up my car.
When I was finally called, I was fixing my phone at a store and was called by Tri-Valley later than agreed on. As I was on my way, Don called again and did not bother hiding his annoyance at how I needed to hurry up because he had made plans. So I can get multiple calls when I need to be told I have to hurry up, but I can't get a call ahead of time to know when I need to get my car? Did he just expect me to have been around the corner for the past four hours?
Anyways, he told me he left my keys in the car and and I saw him drive away. Unprofessional. He said he was leaving because I was taking too long, and he said he left my keys in my car. My car could have auto locked, or someone could have taken my car, and either way...
It is just unfortunate to know that that was a decision made with irresponsibility, lack of thinking, and inconsideration. There definitely could have been more responsible alternatives, like giving the car keys to the store owner next door, or waiting a few extra minutes.
I'm sure he would have been happy to wait if I had agreed to pay the 2,000.00
The funny thing is, he mentioned that Hertz closed at 6, and he was willing to pay for a rental car, aka, wait in line, fill out paperwork, and pay for a rental car and go through that routine, but he couldn't wait five to ten minutes for me to get my own keys for a car that had been sitting around for four hours, unworked on, with a quote of 2,000.00.
Next week, I went to get my car serviced at advantage automotive, not only was my car serviced and fixed in the same day, within four hours, but my total came around to 900.00, instead of Don's 2000.00. Yeah. Think about it.
No aggressive proposal for a paid rental car. I was called twice within the hours of my service at Advantage, to update me on my car status and when my car should be done.
So do some serious researching before you come here, and clearly I am not the only one who has had attempts of trying to be played for a fool, as I have seen the other reviews. This experience is one for the storybooks, and I can soundly say, this place makes other car mechanics look better. I get it. We're all trying to make a dollar here. Some...more than others. But, seriously, you left my keys in my car and drove away?

These guys seem nice enough, and I hate to give a small business a bad review, but I think they didn't do careful work the first time or even when I had them go back and check their work.
Brought my car in for a brake job, and afterward the parking brake suddenly didn't work. The guy who did the work, Michael, basically said it was a coincidence that the parking brake stopped working at the same time they replaced all the pads and rotors - a little hard for me to believe. Next time I took it into the dealer, I had to pay extra to get everything checked out and for them to make a simple adjustment to the parking brake. That's all it took, so I can't believe these guys missed it, twice.

This business deserves 5 stars! It's so strange to see bad reviews on here... We had work done on two cars over the past two years and have nothing but rave reviews of the place, the service and the owner. No questions we'll be coming back and let friends know.
No upselling whatsoever, in fact quite the opposite, every time we have needed service.
I would not doubt about the integrity of these folks, and I like to take my business where I know I will be treated fairly. Thank you, Mr. Don!

This is the only place I will take my cars. TriValley Automotive has worked on all 4 on my cars. Prices are fare and work always come in at or below estimates. A big thing for me is when they diagnose a problem, I feel like I am getting an estimate for only what the car needs.
This is a shop that you can trust and the prices are very fair.

I've used Michael (one of the mechanics) before to install headers on a truck I had when he ran D&M auto salon in Livermore and since I used to deliver parts for that area I had trusted him more than many of the other mechanic shops I would frequent on my route.
When D&M closed, I found out that he was working here... Now with a 370z that is substantially higher maintenance than a Tacoma, I have been here twice already and will be returning when it is due for more service, modifications and or repairs.
On June 12th (Friday night) the clutch slave cylinder took a dump on my 370Z, The following day (saturday) I started looking around where to take it. I have an aftermarket warranty through carmax and I heard they can be a pain to deal with... So I wanted to find a place that has the patience. Michael took it in on that day (they were closed, but were doing work on cars [catching up i think?]) and assured me he's dealt with aftermarket warranty companies before.
The whole process was easy, I had it towed over to them and a few days later I get a follow up call from Don that the work was approved by the warranty company and they'll start on it ASAP. They had it done in the expected time and it runs great, If not the clutch feeling better than it did before.
The 2nd visit was on the 22nd, On the 20th I called Don and made an appointment to have the transmission oil, differential oil changed and a short shifter installed. I bought everything on my own (not knowing they use redline products [which is what i bought because it is the best]) and that was not a problem... dropped it off an hour late, Not a problem. Went about my business around town and when I came back they were just about done. I noticed the mechanic doing the work was not Michael who'm I'm used to...
You see, I'm one of those owners who usually watches every time someone touches the car. When I get an oil change done, I'm right there behind them (I go to a local place in tracy) watching everything they do same goes for when I get it washed... I spend extra time googling and reading up on forums whats the best for my car. I'm to put it simply... a picky and anal car owner. I trust Michael with my car without me having to be there the entire time and seeing Michael off doing a clutch on a Focus made me a little uneasy since I didn't know who this other guy was.
The mechanic's name is Brandon, By the time I got there he had finished the transmission oil and was finishing the differential oil. Not yet getting to the shifter... So I sat and watched. He was done in about 30-45 minutes, which is actually less than the expected time to do it even said in the instruction manual. He followed the instruction manual perfectly. Even to using a zip tie on the shift boot to keep it from sagging down... I am now also completely confident in Brandon's skills and would not worry about him doing future repairs, maintenance or modifications to my car. I am a very happy customer.
This place is small but they do great work, The mechanics are great and the owner (Don) is super professional. I will be back and will recommend this place to anyone who needs a mechanic.

Tri Valley Automotive is a rarity... an auto repair shop that listens to your auto problem, tests for the obvious issues and then also noted a couple other issues that may need addressing in the future but aren't immediately needing repair. Integrity lives at Tri Valley Automotive. Minor preventative maintenance items are noted and prioritized that can prevent expensive repairs down the road. Integrity lives at Tri Valley Automotive!

I came in at opening (8 am) for a simple oil change. I was given an estimate of ~1 hour but ended up having breakfast at a nearby Cafe, reading War and Peace and gazing at Haley's comet passing overhead before the service was completed.
Another thing I wish Tri-Valley could improve upon is giving me a detail on the 30-pt inspection. My invoice just said it was performed, but there wasn't an itemized list on what was exactly inspected.
I just wish it wouldn't take so long to get a simple service done. I was out of Tri-Valley at 10:30 am. Management is nice, prices are reasonable, but I'll be going to another automotive service center next time.

Took my vw here to check out my car. It was way underpowered and they managed to find the issue almost immediately. Mechanic explained what was wrong and my car is running perfectly. Probably better than it was before the issue. Pricing was very reasonable.
Only thing I would say is during the diagnoses, probably point out anything that might need attention (I know I'm due for brakes), but otherwise great service and quick turnaround.
I would recommend this place to anyone.

I called on Friday asking for quote on brake pads. I asked my husband to call today
for an appt. Don, the owner gave him a higher quote. So I had to call back to ask for Mike who I originally spoke to and Don picked up the phone. He said Mike was busy. he told me he just raised his price. I said I just got the quote a couple of days ago. I wanted to cancel the appt and he replied you are canceling the appt just because it's a $10 dollar difference? I said it's because you raised your price on me. He said he raised price on everyone but he is not gonna call everyone to tell them. Customer service sucks! He should've said since we gave you that quote I'll go ahead and give that to you. He is a business owner and he is willing to lose a customer over 10 dollars? It was his response, I went elsewhere paying a little more cuz they have better service.

Don's Auto service is the only place I go to have my vehicle serviced for nearly 10 years now. I have since driven used cars, traded and purchased new ones but I will only trust Don to do my oil change and all the necessary checks to ensure my vehicle is running in good condition if not better. He's been in business for over 30 years and has been helpful and honest with me on specific repairs and his fees are reasonable, and yes I have been quoted from other shops to no comparison. Don guarantees his work and I will continue to take my now new vehicle to him for oil change, routine checks and continued maintenance.

Tri Valley Auto was honestly a huge disappointment. The only reason I gave 2 star instead of one is because the installed a control arm correctly. I found the workers to be rude and easily offended if I questioned their work. Don the owner also was a let down. Initially I put the truck in to install a toggle for a dump bed fix year lights and disconnect the horn. I also wanted them to hook up an additional battery but straight away I felt that was to challenging for them based on the conversation. So I settled for getting the latter done to give em a shot. Oh also the coolant service forgot about that. When I returned to my $500+ bill I checked the work. I have worked on vehicles in the past (no expert but passable). The coolant hoses was leaking alot horn wasn't disconnected and the toggle turned into them attaching a cable under the hood that I detached so it wouldn't drain my battery (hence the need for a toggle). I with their tools fixed the hose myself because they said it would be a few more days and I needed the truck for work. I also disconnected the battery and hooked up a toggle myself same day. Talked to Don he assured that he'd make it right. Took it back in he knocked a few bucks off additional work that I paid to have done the control arm and gave me a couple hoses they installed for the cooling system. That was the only good work done. They weren't able to however fix the lights failed to install some rods they said they would and was still rude and foul mouthed. Overall they were terrible and if you need a mechanic orinda shell is a lot better a bit of a drive though.

Don, the owner, is the most trustworthy mechanic I have known. He does quality work for fair prices. Additionally, he researches your car's issue so he takes the appropriate corrective action. I have always had positive experiences at Tri-Valley Automotive.
First time I came to his shop, I asked him to change my brakes. A mechanic at Goodyear in Pleasanton told me that my brakes had 2-3mm and needed to be replaced. He called me and told me that they were at 4-5mm and were fine. Didn't charge me anything.
Another time, I had a check engine light on. The mechanic at Dublin Mazda told me it was just my gas cap. I replaced the gas cap and the check engine light was still on. It turned out to be an EVAP system issue, and Don completely fixed it after one appointment. I called Dublin Mazda to get a quote on diagnostics just out of curiosity, and Don's price was far cheaper. Additionally, Don charged me exactly what he said he would.
Don goes the extra mile for customers. He does not do unnecessary work and he researches the best treatment before doing it. All the work he has done on my car has been great quality jobs. He has always been honest with me and has very reasonable availability for being such a small shop.

I had a problem with my Mazda 5 Minivan for the first in 3,5 years. The car wont start in the morning. My son called a couple of auto repairs shops. They gave us a quote, est $150 just for diagnose. And then, we searched in Yelp and found Tri Valley Automotive. In summary, it turned out that the car needed a new battery. The total that we spent on the battery replacement and the service was less than $160. I was impressed by the service and the $. I definitely would come again here if I need to.
The mechanic that took car of our car was Brandon Rupley. Thank you so much Tri Valley Automative and Brandon for your great service.

I have taken my car for 3 or 4 oil changes without any issues. The last time I took it I asked to have the blinker's light bulb replaced. When the person tried to bring out the bulb, it went into the headlamp assembly. The owner told me that I was responsible for the cost to take the whole headlamp assembly out to remove the bulb; I said I was only responsible for the light bulb and perhaps the socket that might have bent (even though we have never replaced that bulb ever before).
Then the owner said that I would have to pay only 50% of the work and did not want to go any lower, I found myself either having to take the car to another mechanic for their inefficiency and pay for the whole job.
So I decided to pay 50% for their mistake. However they lost a customer for good.
BTW. I never received an estimate in writing to replace the light bulb.

I called Tri-Valley Automotive yesterday around 8:30am to get my car in for some brake work. After bringing it in for a quote around 9:30am, Don was very helpful in helping break down what the cost of the work would be for new rotors and brake pads.
He was true to his quote, I used the deal you can buy on Yelp (It emails the confirmation to them so you just have to let them know you bought it) and I got my car back around 3:00pm which is when he said it would be done.

When we had clutch problems with our 2003 Honda Element our first thought was to call Don and the team. They diagnosed the issue and quoted the repair in short order after receiving the vehicle from the towing service. Our first service experience in 2012 along with the one today will lead us to call on Don and team with any of our future needs. Great job!

"You know what a good mechanic is worth? You can't compare that to sex!" - Jerry Seinfeld
Well, Don is a good mechanic, and an honest one at that with good prices. I had both my cars worked on here by done, the first for a battery replacement (which the dealer I bought the car from paid for since it was the day after I bought the car...), and also Don put on my trailer hitch as well did my some maintenance service for my Nissan Murano. Compared to a lot of places on yelp, I've found that Tri-Valley Automotive is consistently cheaper, and they definitely do good work.
The only thing that prevents me from giving it a 5 star review is that you have to get your own ride after you drop off the car, they're a small shop so there is no car service. But still definitely worth coming to.

Kept my car for over a week. Charged me over 100.00 for a "possible" diagnostic. I told him everything I had replaced prior to bringing it to him. He repeated everything I did. When I asked him why would I pay you to replace the things I just put in myself he agreed to remove them but still proceeded to charge me the 130.00 diagnostic fee. Had to have my car towed home with what "he thought' was the problem.
Both mechanics working looked all of 17. Had it not been a weekday I would of been sure they were in my son's ROP class. This guy is hit or miss. I got him on miss unless all the "hits" were reviews from his family.

I met Don through a car forum, and when my car's differential and axle broke, Don was the first guy I turned to. I really appreciate that Don took the time to patiently problem solve what was wrong, and in the end, I'm very satisfied with the work done on my car.
Essentially, Don was able to help me determine the parts I needed to acquire (differentials and axles are $$$ brand-new, so it helps to go search for used parts. Plus I learned more things about my car!) But even though I acquired the parts Don and I agreed on, my car wasn't cooperating (old car so a lot of parts were seized, or to get them out would mean breaking other parts...)
Other shops would've gone ahead and said "It needed to be done...", but Don didn't. He took the time to figure out what the essential parts that needed to be fixed were, and changed parts accordingly! Overall, I will definitely come back if I need a professional to work on my car.

I took my car in for an oil change and also asked Don to check my brakes, thinking they might need to be changed. He did a 30-point check with my oil change, checking all my fluid levels as well. I appreciated how thorough he was and his honest feedback, letting me know that my brakes did not need to be changed yet. So many other auto repair shops will tell you to get something fixed before it needs to be, just to make extra money. I feel comfortable taking my car in for repair to someone with integrity and will definitely go back next time I need work done!

When you find a company that is very responsible, and takes care of the customer's needs, you should give them the praise they have earned!
Five years ago, I needed a clutch for my Volkswagen Beetle. I checked with the Volkswagen dealership in Oakland for a price, but decided to shop around. I found in the Yellow Pages, this company at that time called "Tri-Valley Clutch" (prior to it's present name, Tri Valley Automotive), in Dublin. I decided to give them a try, and they were $500 less than the dealer.
Additionally, Tri-Valley informed me that my turbo had too small of a clutch, for it's power, and replaced the flywheel and put in a heavy duty clutch which is still perfect after and additional 40,.000 miles. They were still $500 less than a normal clutch.
Since that time, I have taken all of my four cars to them for repair or service. When my RX330
needed it's 90,000 service, they went by the book but priced it $1000 less than Oakland
Coliseum Lexus for the same service.
When I needed brakes on my SL-500 Mercedes, I once again check with the dealer in Oakland and Tri-Valley was $400 less than the dealership.
I also have an older Jeep Grand Cherokee which they have replace the front axle assembly complete, rear axle assembly, brakes and fixed a steering problem.
The reason I mention all these vehicles, is that I have been very pleased with the service of all of these, and, am very impressed by the versatility of knowledge Don and his assistant Marc have when it comes to the service of automobiles of all
varieties.
when they say it will be ready, they make it happen! if you, as I, are tired of paying the dealership prices for the same work, either service or repair, give these guys a chance....you won't be disappointed!

I usually take my car to another place. That place gave me quote for a timing belt change on my car. When I got around to scheduling about 3 months later, suddenly their price was over $300 more. So I found Tri-Valley after calling around. They were hundreds of dollars cheaper than most of the other places I called. That's good right...but makes you a little nervous. Since their price was so much better I went with them and they did a great job. Everything was done on time, no drama, no surprises.

I had just bought a used 2003 Subaru Forester and the clutch went out a couple weeks later so I found Don on Yelp and took the car to him. I was expecting the car to take two or three days so I rented a car, but Don called me later that afternoon and said everything was done and ready to roll. SIX HOURS TO REPLACE A SUBARU CLUTCH! This man is amazing! The dealer and other places wanted 2-3 times as much and would take 2-3 times as long. I am recommending all my friends to Tri-Valley Automotive! Thanks Don!

FANTASTIC JOB BY Tri-Valley Automotive. First of all, let me mention that I'm an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic with 30+ years of experience working on production machinery of all types. I can tell an excellent mechanic because I know what they're doing to my vehicle. I brought my daughter's '95 Volvo in for an A/C service. Perfect job, done just right for the right price, quality work, nice people, plus they insist on a free follow-up inspection to make sure the Air Cond. system is continuing it's ice-cold operation. They fit me into their schedule with short notice. My advice is "Give Tri-Valley Automotive a call for your next tune-up, oil-change, or any automotive need. You'll be very happy that you found a good reliable honest shop!"

Don at Tri Valley Automotive is absolutely the most honest mechanic I have ever met in my life. He was referred to me by another friend of mine and he has been fantastic. I have had major work done and I have had basic oil changes done and every time I'm happy. I recntly had some issues with my Dodge Durango and so I took the car to Don. My check engine light kept coming on and the cars lights on the dash would flash on and off out of nowhere. This would typically happen one day and then the next everything would be fine. So when I took the car to Don he couldn't find anything. I took the car to him 3 different times and he would spend 30-60 minutes trying to diagnose what the issue was and he didn't charge me for any of those visits. He could have very easily charged me but he didn't. He actually felt bad because he couldn't figure out the issue. The reason he couldn't pinpoint the issue is because we had a leak in our sunroof (which wasn't noticeable at all) and the water was rolling down the headliner down the side of our windshield down to a fuse box where it was temporarily shorting out fuses. By the time we would take the car to Don the fuses would be dry again so the problem would appear to have disappeared which is why he couldn't determine the problem. Eventually we figured out this was only happening when it rained so we pinpointed the leak. Don immediately referred me to a friend of his George who owns California Collision in Pleasanton to have my sunroof checked out for leaks. I took it to CC and they ended up fixing almost $4000 worth of water damage to my car...all paid for by my insurance company!!! And because Don referred me I didn't have to pay for them to diagnose the problem (which isn't covered by insurance) which saved me a couple hundred bucks. So not only is Don an honest mechanic but he knows other honest business owners in the area. I highly recommend Don and Tri Valley Automotive to anyone.

Don is THE BEST!!!! Of course I found him on Yelp and have been here several times for my Toyota SUV. He is super-honest, caring, explains what needs to be done in a genuinely thoughtful and caring way, his prices are so reasonable -- AND he is a man of INTEGRITY! I have brought my car to his shop several times thinking some major things were going to need to be replaced -- he fixed the items at minimal cost to me and still gave first class treatment. He is a superstar!! His work is top notch and repairs actually take the time he estimates it will. He is an amazing, honest, and talented auto mechanic. GO SEE DON!!! You will be happy you did!

My clutch became very difficult to depress, to the point where it bothered my ankle and since my car has about 140K miles I thought it may be time for a new clutch. I called several shops and Tri-Valley Clutch provided me one of the more reasonable quotes, plus the shop is close to where I live.
Well, after the diagnostic, Don, the shop's owner, informed me that the clutch seemed to be fine, that it was the clutch cable that was bad, which is a significantly lower cost repair. I thought that showed an extremely honest business practice as he could have easily told me my clutch needed replacement and I would have believed it given the high mileage of my car.
They did a great job, replaced the clutch cable and gave my car a much needed tune up.
A few weeks later Tri-Valley Clutch replaced my starter expediently and with no issues. I recommend them based on my two pleasant experiences (knock on wood that I won't need to visit them again soon though!)

My first expirience with TRI VALLEY was when I had my old 1993 Honda Civic.
My Story:
I had my whole transmission, clutch and flywheel replaced at a shop down in San Jose. When all the work was done my shifter was sitting in a slightly forward stance which was odd to me so I took it back to San Jose and they had no idea what was wrong with it and gave me some bull*hit excuse on how thats how its supposed to be with the new transmission.
Not happy, I decided to take my car locally to DON at TRI-VALLEY to see if they had any idea of what was going on. Trust me, these guys know what their doing. One look under the car he noticed my transmission bar was upside down. Within 15 min, DON had reversed the tranny bar and my shifter sat exactly how a normal shifter sits. So I had my car back in a very short amount of time and with a simple fix DON had given me a very, very reasonable price.
EVER SINCE THEN I WILL NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE.
Now, I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, a very complex car to work on. I took my car to DON to get my clutch and flywheel replaced on this car and he gave me a VERY reasonable quote that was close to all the competition in the east bay area. Don has a couple modded cars that he personally worked on and that was reassuring to me. I had brought my own performance parts to get installed and since I know that he does HONEST work, I had no problems knowing that the job will get done right.
I've had my car back now for over a month and Im happy to say that I have not had any problems with my car and it is performing better than ever!!!
Thanks DON and thanks to all the staff at TRI-VALLEY CLUTCH.

They also are next door to a place called Minute Muffler (who recommended me to Tri Valley Clutch) They also did work for me on my 98 Acura CL. I must say I had fast, excellent experience with this company, and I would recommend it.
I came from out of town (3 hrs to be exactly) and upon arriving to my destination, and trying to put the car in reverse to pull into the parking stall i realized their was a serious problem with my car. It wouldn't go into reverse smoothly like it normally would. (And I have an automatic so it wasn't about me putting it in the correct gear.) I decided to not worry about it until the next morning since it was really late in the evening and their wasn't any natural light and i was going to be up here for 2 more days, and nothing is open on a Saturday or Sunday usually. The next morning I went to check my car, and found a trail of fluid running from underneath my car into the middle of the street. Immediately the hood was opened, and and engine fluids were checked. Oil...check...okay. Radiator fluid...check...okay. Windshield wiper....check.....oh that is right it has had a crack in it for many years now, and I never put anything in it. Transmission....check................................... bone dry, that is where the puddle beside my car originated from. Just great, I am hundreds of miles from my mechanic (I am very particular on who works on my car since I have had it for so long), and it is my transmission that is causing the issue, which makes sense since I had a hard time moving when I had put it in reverse. Tried patching it for now by filling it with transmission fluid until I could decide where to take it, and because it was a Sunday and nothing is open until the following day.
It was suggested to me to look on
to find a place to work on my '94 Mustang, so i created an account Monday morning and began browsing yelp trying to find a company close by to take my car to because it was an emergency, and I wasn't familiar with the city of Dublin and I wasn't going to just take my car for some serious work to just any automotive mechanic shop, so I needed to do some research before hand. I read many reviews on several places, and decide to go with them. I didn't have a phone readily available and I thought I would try my luck and email them to get an appointment asap. Two seconds after sending the email, I received a response back to go ahead and bring in my car. I drove my car down there, praying that it was going to make it and it did. I had an idea as to what the problem with my car could of been before taking it down there because of talking to my boyfriends father on Sunday over the phone (he too lived 3 hrs away from where I was stranded and he is a mechanic and owns his own automotive repair business.) I spoke to Don at Tri Valley and he was friendly, personable, and knew what he was talking about when it came to cars. I was informed the car would be done by the end of the day (Monday), unfortunately it wasn't done until mid afternoon the following day (Tuesday). I needed the car to be done as soon as it could since I was missing more work than had planned due to the emergency. I had a 30 point vehicle inspection done, changed engine oil and filter, replaced both U-joints, replaced gasket and seal on transmission tail shaft housing. I think the cost for the work was excellent, and I didn't have the car back as originally thought, but i was impressed with the quick response to email, and friendliness of staff.

Great service and great mechanics. Had my 1999 isuzu Rodeo blow a head Gasket. these guys fixed it and my other head gasket for a great price. These guys even went thru the trouble of changing my timing belt, water pump, valvle job, spark plugs, pulleys, oil, oilf filter and thermostat! It made sense to replace all of these parts at the same time because they were all coming out anyways, might as well put new parts in... When i got the car back i found out that they even put new hoses in the car for no additional charge, because the mechanic said it just made sense!. Give these guys 5 stars, after all of the customer service and great prices. Saved me a ton! It has been over 3 months and the car still runs like new!
