Maybe instead of D & K they should change their name to H & E - which stands for Honest and Excellent. Or maybe X & O (hugs and kisses!) Sooo thankful that their auto shop exists in "Gouge' em for- all- you- can- get- Marin County".
i was referred to their services by a Corte Madera Policeman. References don't get better than that!
i do NOT give these people a 5 star rating. I GIVE THEM A GALAXY!!!
The only thing wrong with this auto shop is it can't be cloned!

Wow, knowledgable service technicians and friendly service. This location if fair on parts and service cost. The service is fast and you leave feeling good you took your car here. Unlike the dealership services who overcharge on everything.

We trust D & K Auto Services! We have had 4 busy kids driving to Tahoe and back and forth to colleges, etc. in our various used cars over the past 15 years! D & K is a reliable family run business who has kept our kids in our cars safe. Dave is fair, and recommends fixing what needs fixing and doesn't over recommend extra costs. He and his team arr great at troubleshooting and they get the job done when they say they will. I highly recommend D & K Auto Services.

Found this place on Yelp and I was really pleased with their customer service. My engine was smoking so I brought my Honda in and after looking in the car they discovered an issue that would require my engine to be completely replaced, but they knew it would most likely be covered under warranty if I brought it to Honda. They filled up my oil and coolant and didn't charge me for anything. I'm so happy they knew about this certain issue, and my engine will be replaced under the warranty. Thanks D & K!

I was going to write a review, a favorable one. Actually a stellar review to support their business as they excel in service, advice and value but, I feel like a needle in a haystack of positive reviews.
Just bring your vehicle here, any vehicle. I've seen ambulances, police cars here, if they can't fix it they'll give you great advise on where to take it for the best work and most reasonable price. Amazing! It's like stepping back in time to when you could actually trust your mechanic. At D & K, you can! I really wanted to stand out as an exemplary review but alas that post has been filled, many times over. Just take your vehicle to D & K.

These guys epitomize customer service. I worked with Tricia (I hope I spelt her name right) to get a used car inspected.
The general gist, we live over in Modesto and we had a car that we were interested in at Marin Luxury Cars. Despite setting up beforehand with the dealership that they would drop the car off for inspection in the morning, which is when I had scheduled with D&K to have things looked at, they managed to fail to get the car in by the appointment time or the end of day. Throughout the ordeal, Tricia was very patient and willing to accept the fact that these guys had failed to bring the car in at any point in the day, with both of us hoping at some point the vehicle would arrive for inspection. At the end of it all, she was even willing to go the extra mile, quite literally the dealership is only a mile away, to go and bring the car in for inspection. Though that wasn't needed as the dealership, finally managed to free up the car from it's smog check...something that normally takes 30 mins to an hour by the end of the day.
At the time of writing, D&K has yet to do my used car inspection, but the level of customer service that Tricia has provided, would keep me coming to their shop if I were to live in the area. Highly recommended on customer service alone!

I love D & K auto services because of the long standing reputation of the owner, Dave, in the auto repairing business, his honesty and his sense of humor. He's a graduate of Redwood High School. Compared to many other auto repair services in the area his prices are reasonable. He'll do the auto repairs you authorize, tell you about stuff that may/will need doing in the future. He takes care of business. He isn't constantly trying to upsell you on added services you may not need or want. Consistent. Dependable.
Approachable. And if there's some auto repair/body services he's not comfortable working on, he'll refer you to the best, affordable and consistent providers in Marin. A solid businessperson who gets a lot of repeat business. A family run business.

I moved to Marin County almost 12 years ago. I first lived in Corte Madera and when I asked my neighbor for a recommendation to an auto service shop, he glowingly recommended D&K Auto. I have been going there ever since, even after moving to Sausalito.
My initial gut when meeting Dave was not just his initial booming voice and impressive stature, my immediate gut instinct was that he was a straight up, honest guy. As a woman who has had her share of nincompoop mechanics trying to pull one over, D&K was a truly refreshing experience. In all these years, the initial gut has never been proven wrong. Dave and team have always done stellar work, I've never had one problem complaint with them and they have been incredibly gracious in educating me on specific stuff I need to care about so I know why they are doing it. Who does that? Simply put, D&K Auto puts the definition behind excellent customer service.
At this point, I don't care what they charge (which happens to be very reasonable by the way), I will continue to bring all my cars to them for as long as they do business. Hands down, they are the best...ever!!

D & K has always done everything I have asked of them. I have found that they are honest, direct and trustworthy about what's going on with my vehicle and how much it will cost to fix. Nothing I have had repaired there has ever had an issue. I even take my vehicles there for oil changes... It's a little more time and money than those 30 minute places, but I know the job will be done right!

The only place I will EVER go for any repair. Dave and daughter Trisha will nevr do unnecessary repairs and have more integrity than any place I have ever gone to. These people here at D and K are very kind and helpful. I came with issues on an engine light that was keeping me from passing a smog test. Trish, dave's daughter got a mechanic on it right away and got the engine light to turn off. Dave, her Dad, is a nice guy and he advised me what to do to get my car tp pass smog. He did not even have to do repairs and referred me to a place for the test. Wow are these people helpful. I can tell you where i'm coming for my auto repairs now. Its ina cozy area of Larkspur too, i could walk around while waiting if i need to. Thanks dave and Trsih, i hope the best karma for you and your business. Thanks for helping all the people that have need of trust in the auto repairs. I can see why your rep is good!

They checked out my car and got back to me extremely quickly, explained my options in an easy to understand way, and didn't even charge me for the time it took them to check everything out. They were very honest and definitely didn't pressure me into doing any service that wasn't necessary. Highly recommended.

I'd just bought an '05 Toyota used car with no spare tire, Dave told me he could sell me a new wheel and tire and his daughter told me they would call me back. They never did. When I got tired of driving with no spare, I drove to San Rafael and bought my tire/wheel at Cain's.
I will return to D & K for general auto services when I need them. Dave and his daughter seem to have a good shop, and I'm local, so I'll bring my business there.

Amazing Mechanics! I just moved from out of state and therefore didn't know any GOOD local mechanics. Thankfully Yelp helped point me in the right direction with these folks. I cannot speak highly enough for the people at D&K. Not only did they diagnose a problem that was undiagnosable at another shop, but they offered to drive me to and from work while they worked on my car so I wouldn't be late! I know where I will be taking my car to be worked on going forward in the San Francisco / Marin County area.

I have been coming to D & K for close to a year now. I cannot say enough positive stuff about these folks. When I was bringing my clunker minivan in they always tried to help out in the most cost-effective way. When it failed a smog test they found the problem and fixed it for...NO CHARGE! I just picked up a Subaru Forester which needed the timing belt service done. They had no problem with using my parts and their charges were very reasonable. I feel so lucky to live so close to this gem of a shop.

I've never written a review ever for any site or service but I felt compelled to do so for D & K. I am extremely happy about the personal, professional, honest, and friendly service and connection offered by Dave, his daughter and his crew!
My car broke down Wednesday night and the tow driver that picked me up (Chris at Bill's Towing) recommended I take it to Dave's in the morning. Sadly D& K is not open on the weekend, so I chose to take a day off from work to plan for the worst.
I called D & K in the morning and Trisha (Dave's daughter) was so helpful in brainstorming possible issues / solutions to the car troubles I was having (without me even bringing it in yet!). We figured it best for me to come in (since the car was surprisingly drivable at this point) so they could do a quick free computer check. Turns out the IAC valve needed to be replaced. Dave was kind enough to drop me off where I needed to be while I waited, which was completely surprising! Two hours later (after they received the part) and a little over two hundred bucks for the parts and service, and I was good to go!
The car did suffer the same issues and broke down on me the next day due to a faulty connection on the IAC valve that was replaced, but they corrected that issue and checked out all the systems quickly and free of charge.
Though the situation itself was nerve-racking (thought I was going to be walking to the Larkspur Ferry from here on out) my nerves were greatly eased by the quick, honest, and excellent service by D&K!

i took my ford SUV in to have a vibrating noise looked at. On a rainy day it took a bit to find this place - really poor signage.They have no waiting area, so in the rain i walked down the road to wait at the library. 4 hrs and a couple hundred $$ later, they said the problem was fixed - u joints replaced on the drive shaft. I'm now back to finding another repair place - noise and cornering problems still there, bad as ever

If you live in Marin, take your car to D&K! Both of you will be leave satisfied. Dave Painter is a son of a bitch, and I mean that in the good sense. Not only is he a booming character who grew up in Marin, but he is honest to the core. They are as inexpensive as competent mechanics can be, will never overcharge you and will never diagnose or perform unnecessary repairs. They are not after your money, but -gasp- to fix your car! Whenever I go there to get my beloved auto, the bill is always either what I figured it would be (by now I'm a pretty good estimator) or lower.
We were talking the other day as Dave dropped me off in the morning to take my car back to work on (he does that for me but I don't know if that's a service he offers), and he said the way you really survive in this business is through your reputation and repeat customers, that you're not gonna get that if you consistently rip people off. And I said "Yeah but Dave, you'd be surprised." (There are so many piece of shit mechancs that somehow keep on going!)
I'm picky as hell when it comes to mechanics and have been through a lot in Marin. But D&K is the place. Also the premises are vintage!

I agree with all the other posts. Dave and all the mechanics at D & K are the best. I've lived in Corte Madera for 44 yrs and used many other auto repair shops before a friend recommended D & K. No one else compares to Dave for honesty and quality of service. I've been taking my cars to him for over 10 yrs now and won't go anywhere else. Dave is also one of the nicest, most friendly guys and he makes you feel like he really cares about you and your car. He makes you feel like you're his only customer even though they are constantly slammed with work. Dave and D & K are the best you'll ever find. I feel so lucky to have them!!

Felt ripped off. Told me I needed front brakes and did job without asking first or giving price quote. I had just done my front pads a few months prior, when I asked to see the old pads they said they threw them out. Would not trust these guys.
