By far the best mechanic I've ever been too. Tibor knows his stuff. Thorough, fast, reasonable. Points out potential problems, worn belts, etc without being pushy about fixing them. I've always gotten a super honest vibe from them. And their prices are good, too.
I took my car here for 6 years before moving out of the area. Now that I'm trying to find another mechanic I'm realizing how good The Car Clinic really is. I highly recommend them to everyone in the area.

I am writing this review to appreciate the excellent service I got at the car service few days ago. The power outlet inside the car was not working and I called several different mechanics to ask if I could come over, to be honest I did not even know how big the problem was. When I called the car clinic, they told me to come right away and as I got there they looked at it and started doing something under the wheel fuse and I was wondering I might get charged like 10-20 dollars but they just said it's free. I was astonished like how on earth? I truly appreciated the quick service and would definitely go back there. Thanks a lot again!

I've never met two nicer people than Tibor and Erika. They are extremely kind to all of the people who walk through their door. They really know how to deliver fantastic customer service. The service here is impecable. My family has been brining our cars here for years and I will continue to do so for years to come.
Prices are decent and they are efficient with their time, so you get the most for your money. There isn't a place I've found that compares... except for when I can get my brother to change my oil for free! Friendly and very timely service with decent prices, what more could you ask for? I have not one complaint. This is my number once choice for any car service I need to have done.

Brought my car in because the ominous "Check Engine" light came on (right before Christmas nonetheless! Deep sigh..). Anyway, I was expecting to pay an arm and a leg and may have with the wrong place since I barely know a car wheel from an alternator. I came in, told him my issue and he called shortly after to say they were nothing major and not worth throwing any money at. Did I hear him right? He doesn't want all my money AND no upsell? Car Clinic could have charged me an arm and a leg for a phony problem, but simply found that my power steering fluid needed flushing, and that was it. All told, labor and the fix plus an oil change and oil filter change was only $94. Great deal to end that noise my car was making AND get my oil stuff done...!

Tibor was very helpful by doing a simple computer check in 5 minutes and for free. Some other less reputable places were asking $40! Never before have I found a mechanic that was willing to explain all of the steps he used to diagnose my car, nor one that would recommend what NOT to do in order to save money.

I started going to the Car Clinic because I could walk there (I live in Mountain View), drop the car off, and still take Caltrain to work. However, I keep going back because they have been great mechanics to work with. They are personable, honest, explaining things to me and costs to me, basically everything I'd look for in someone I do business with.

I don't like that they took my car for a spin to 'test it out'; w/o asking me! So that lowers my score and my trust. Why do you have to 'test drive' it for an oil change? Would you have told/asked me if I had not seen you drive my car and asked you where you took my car? No one does that; that's weird.
The after market brakepads put on my car here were low quality and had a very short life although I paid well for them. The brakepads were an after market,(off brand that is not of the same manufacturer of the car) and had to be replaced within a year although most of my driving is in town. Not a useable shop for me any longer.

Disclaimer: YELP, as you've no doubt realized, is personal opinion and should be taken with a grain of salt. You can never judge a place or person by another individual's solely amazing visit or churlish, angry rant. Go for yourself. Everyone is different.
Tibor and Erika have worked on all my cars, and most of my mother's cars, going on 23 years now. They are splendid, easygoing, professional people. Emphasis on the word PEOPLE!
They don't try to make you purchase things you don't really need - they are a family owed business that is deservedly thriving and that should be praised and shared!
For Example:
I work long shifts and really can't take time off to drop my car off and pick it up while they are open. Most places would tell me to shove off or FIND the time.
Not so. =)
They let me park my car next door, leave the keys with them as they take care of it and then promptly leave it next door for me to pick up. Oh, and payment? Easy. Write a check and leave it in the mail slot.
They couldn't make this easier for me! And somehow I know they make things easier for a lot of people.
I hope they are around a very, very long time. Or at least once they retire, they give the place to family or friends who keep it up just as they have.

I've taken my car in to Tibor and Erika at the Car Clinic about 3 times now. Every time I've gone in, I've had a great experience.
The first time I brought it in, I had an oil leak and had another shop tell me it was a major repair and would cost thousands to fix. I had done some research online and I thought I knew what the problem was. I brought my car in to Tibor and he wouldn't even let me tell him what the other shop told me or what I found online. He wanted to come to his own conclusion. In the end, it was a simple cam head sensor that needed to be replaced and it only cost about $250 to fix! Love their honesty!!
Just recently had my car in again this past Friday because I was smelling gas in my car. They told me to bring it in right away and that they should have it done that same day! In the end, they had to order the part and I was able to pick it up on Monday. They're very reliable and honest and I love them! I wouldn't go anywhere else!!

Very honest. Tibor (and Erika) have been working on all my cars from many, many years back. Tibor will tell me whether it is a necessary repair or something I can live with and save my money.
There was once when my Honda Odyssey was feeling a bit loose in the steering. Whenever I accelerate the steering wheel will jerk slightly to one side. I immediately went to the nearest mechanic who told me that the steering is bad and will need to be replaced. He need the van for one or maybe 2 days to fix. I took the van to Tibor for a second opinion and he lifted the van up and together with his assistant found the problem with a loose nut somewhere in one of the front. He tighten it and the problem went away. He did not charge me a cent as he said he did not do any repair but just tightened a nut.
Needless to say I was very, very pleasantly surprised and very happy with his honesty. I went next door to the liquor store and bought him a six-pack as a thank you gift. Hint: He likes European beer.
Very good quality work and you will be happy to call Tibor *your* mechanic.

A new year and Tibor and Erika continue to be the best that there is! Took my son's 2000 CRV in for their Oil Special and ended up having to replace a water pump that was in fact replaced in 2009. Long story short, they tried to get the manufacturer to take back the "bad" water pump and of course they wouldn't. But Erika ended up giving me a break on the labor costs even though she didn't have to! This is exactly why The Car Clinic will continue to have my business on all five of the car's in my family! These guys are AMAZING. Totally honest, they do great work, and I've never met a nicer and more humble shop. We take our 2003 Honda Accord here, and I would highly recommend them to anyone with general repair or maintenance work. I taken cars to this cliinic for over 10 years - I've always had top notch service. A couple times I took my new car to the dealer for repairs - big $$$ mistake - took the car here for a second opinion and was amazed to find out how many repairs the dealer required were overpriced and some unnecessary. My husband now takes his car here after having similar experiences with dealer vs. here. We've always found that when these guys fix something...its really fixed and at a reasonable price. He doesn't recommend unnecessary repairs and helps you prioritize repairs if cost containment is needed.

I just moved to the Bay area from Miami and had to get a lot of repairs. I was worried because I'm a single gal and when many auto mechanics see me coming they see me as fresh meat -- and not in a good way. I had a trusted mechanic in Miami and I never thought I'd find one here. But...I had to get a minor body repair at Dunn's Auto Body. They were great but didn't do mechanic work so they told me to try the Car Clinic in Mountain View. I was VERY impressed by the Car Clinic. In fact, they're even better than my old mechanic! The mechanic, Tibor, was painstakingly thorough and solved two big problems even my old mechanic never solved the problem. This guy knows his stuff! I thought I needed new brakes because the guy who installed my new tires last month told me I should bring the car back soon for new front brakes. Tibor said my brakes were fine and no where close to needing replacement. Erica, the office manager, was very friendly and helpful; she drove me home and picked me up and spent hours fighting with my insurance company. She got them to pay for most of it, bless her, as they should have (bumper to bumper warranty is not always what you get). Car Clinic was fairly priced and had a lot of integrity. I was very happy and I'm in the service industry so it's hard to impress me. My boyfriend is taking his car there next week because he knows when I rave about something it must be good.

I used to take my 1997 Avalon and 2001 Sequoia to the dealer for maintenance and repairs. After the dealer declined to warranty an oil leak repair because it was a bit past the warranty period, I decided to find another repair shop for my cars. After two of my friends, one of them a car buff, recommended The Car Clinic, I gave it a try. Tibor replaced the leaking oil seal and told me the bad one was in crooked. His work has lasted much longer than the dealer's repair with no leaks and his price was better than the dealer's price. The brakes on my Sequoia started shaking a bit a few months after the dealer replaced them. It finally got bad enough that I decided to have it fixed and Tibor explained to me that for my Sequoia, some aftermarket brakes work better and for longer than the factory brakes. Sure enough he was right. In addition to doing high quality and reasonably priced work, Tibor has been great about recommending and doing work that needs to be done to keep my vehicles running well and reliably and nothing more. I find Tibor and his wife, Erika, a joy to work with and I recommend them to all of my friends that mention that they need their car repaired.
