I came in for a hitch installation -- not the typical repair shop scenario. The car is brand new and the install calls for holes to be drilled in the frame of the car, and part of the muffler heat shield to be cut away, so I was anxious about it being done right and worried that the mechanics would try and figure it out rather than watching the online video showing how to do the installation.
There was no need to worry. They watched the video carefully, and installed it perfectly.

What a great automotive shop. I have nothing but good things to say about these guys professional fast honest. I went in for my front brakes because my rotors were warped. At least I thought they were it ends up it was the rear rotors. After fixing the front rotors and replacing the caliber and charging me the appropriate amount I realize that the shaking in the brakes was still there. I called him back and told him the shaking was there they told me to come back in and they would make it right. They ended up replacing the rear rotors and brakes at no cost to me. You guys are the best I would really recommend everyone in the area that I know needs a lot of work to you. Thanks for being honest upfront business takes care of his customers

Saved my butt when my brakes started grinding over Easter weekend. Called and left a message Sunday night and they called back bright and early Monday morning. Brought it in, waited in a nearby coffee shop for an hour, and the brake pads were fixed! I told them we were getting ready to unload this car so I didn't want to dump a bunch of money into it. They let me know what other things should be replaced sooner rather than later and which didn't matter. Super appreciate the speed and honesty, and the price was reasonable, too. Glad to have a great auto shop to go to when we're in Truckee!

The best customer service I've ever experienced in any business...seriously. (See "bottom-line" at bottom of this review).
My 2004 Subaru Wrx had a blown engine. A mechanic in Reno estimated that it would be roughly an $8,000 repair. I discussed this with two other shops in Truckee to get 2 other data points and some "reasonableness" feedback (two automotive related stores). They BOTH unquestionably recommended Ward and Son's Automotive. I've had a vacation home in Truckee since 1992 and had never heard of them. Dave (the father), is from Maine and the product of a good family. After meeting him 3 weeks ago (I left the country for 2 weeks), I consider him a trusted friend. He's a dying breed...a genuinely good, honest man.
Turns out I needed a new clutch and a water pump as well (I feared the clutch was toast). I bought a new engine, new clutch and had a water pump installed for over 20% less than the Reno estimate for just the engine alone! Dave Ward called me and kept me informed all along the way, trying to save me money at every opportunity.
When I called to pick up the car, Dave told me my gas tank was on fumes and offered to take it to the station to put in some gas (BTW, this was during the first "white-out" storm of the winter).
Really? You've got to be kidding me...It's a Subaru...not a Bentley!!!
BOTTOM LINE:
1. They're honest. One of the few...I'll say it again...they're honest.
2. They treat you better than Tiffany's or Nordstrom's. Best customer service I've ever experienced.
3. Korine (front desk) is a sweetheart.
4. While totally safe, (in a good part of town) their shop looks like it's a vacant dirt lot in Nicaragua...when I got out of my car, I didn't know if I was going to be mugged or attacked by a junk yard dog. Turns out the dog might lick you to death if you throw the ball for him. Hey, nothing's perfect...but these guys come about as close as you can get!
5. I recommend Ward and Son's Automotive without question and will recommend them to ANYONE who will stand still long enough to listen.

I am new to the Tahoe area and I will not go anywhere else besides these guys. Honest, fair, helpful, genuine, down to earth, knowledgable, and trustworthy. Having a trustworthy mechanic is invaluable. I had my car towed there after having an issue and they were straight forward, honest, and extremely helpful in resolving the matter.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Dave told me himself he wants a place where locals and out of towners can go that they can trust. Well, this definitely is the place!

Seriously. These guys are everything you wish auto repair could be. So friendly. So reasonable. So good. I just needed them to take a look at what appeared to be an oil leak on my older CR-V with 175,000 miles. My wife and daughter-in-law were driving from Colorado to Sacramento to bring my daughter-in-law to Sacramento for a new job. My wife called me to say the heater was overheating. I went out on Yelp and saw "Ward & Son Automotive" well rated and called them. Heather answered and was so knowledgeable and helpful. She said bring it in and we'll look at it right away. They pulled in and owner Ron Ward came out immediately to help them out. After 30 minutes of testing and inspection, Ron felt confident the car was good to go. They tried to offer Ron money but he would not accept. I hope everyone in Truckee and others passing through will support word-class local business...Ward & Son Automotive. Finally, mechanics we can trust. I found these guys by accident a few years back and THANK GOODNESS! Took my car in because the key fob quit auto unlocking the doors. Fuse right? Went to pick car up at the end of the day, not fixed. Well they said it would need a $600.00 part! They teased me that I probably would not need to spend that much just because of an inconvenience.... WHAT? Any other "place" would have handed me a $1000.00 bill and then stare blindly at me waiting for payment! I applaud Dave and everyone in his shop. THANK YOU ALL FOR NOT RIPPING ME OFF! Talk about a knowledgable and honest shop. I limp my '96 Grand Cherokee in there with a broken front drive shaft over the holidays and got A+ Service. I dropped it off late at night over the weekend and left a voice mail. He calls me Monday morning and has figured out a complete solution for me with a custom built drive shaft from Reno (my Jeep is lifted so off the shelf does not work) for around the same price as a standard one from Orielly's, has one of his guys picking it up for me, done all the measurements, found another issue that I knew I had but did not mention, then has it all fixed on time for a great price. Even stayed late on a holiday night so I could pick the car up. If you even need work done and live near these guys, take your car there. They really could have taken advantage of a stranded traveler, but took great care of me. Solid shop!

Hands down best shop in the area. I don't go anywhere else. Unless I need a smog cause they don't smog there. I go to D.R. Automotive for that. Dave, Danielle, davey jr., Arnold, everyone there is a top of the line mechanic, good sense of humor, and always gets the job done right. I make sure to always do right by them, as they have done the same for me. And if they hook me up, I always reciprocate with a case of sierra nevadas ;)

We were on vacation in truckee on vacation when our check engine light came on. I called (based on the great reviews) to see if they'd take a look for me. They told me to stop in whenever worked for me. I did and they couldn't have been nicer. They came right out to my car and ran a test, we talked a bit, he cleared the warning light and I was on my way.

Dave and his team replaced struts and front brakes on our Outback. It now drives like a new car. They saved us $ by advising that the front struts were still good. They also caught and diagnosed a problem with the power steering. I was given affordable options and they got us back on the road in just 5 hours. Could not be happier with their service.

I can't say enough good things about this place.
I bought my car with just over 100k miles and I was concerned I needed to replace the timing belt. Ward and Son's was recommended by a friend so I went in and asked if they could check the timing belt and a couple of other minor things. Danielle called me the next day and told me they had made the the minor repairs and that my timing belt was in great condition and didn't need to be changed... which was the best news to get a few days before Christmas!
I dropped in for a follow up on something a week later, and even though it was just after 5 when I arrived (they close at 5) they brought my car into the shop and fixed it for me right then and there! While we were in there, Dave noticed my battery was corroded and suggested replacing it... I said I would make an appointment, but he said they would take care of it at that moment if I wanted. I didn't have my wallet with me, and they no problem, I could follow up with them the next day. They probably stayed an extra 45 minutes after close going above and beyond to take care of my Subaru (and myself).
I'm a customer for life!

I have a business with several vehicles. Ward and Sons has been servicing my vehicles for the last few years. I know enough about repairing vehicles myself to know what does and doesn't need to be done, I just don't have the time to do the repairs myself. I live in Reno and work in Truckee, I depend on my car to get to work everyday with no exceptions. When the time came to have a long standing issue with my Jeep fixed I asked around my work and the ONLY answer I got was take it to Ward And Son's Automotive! So I took their advice and I could not have been more pleased, I dropped my car off at 9AM and it was fixed by 10:30AM. They undercut other quotes I got by half and I could have not been more happy. If you live anywhere near Truckee you would be a fool not to take your car to Ward And Son's for any work, it would hands down be one of the top 10 mistakes of your entire life. Other shop's pay attention! THIS IS WHO YOU NEED TO MODEL YOURSELVES AFTER!!!!!!!!!!

Highly Recommend

My "check engine" light came on while I was enroute to Truckee on Sunday evening. We made it to our destination without incident, but I wanted to have the car checked out. I was referred to Ward and Son's by our waitress that night, a long time local resident. I called over early Monday morning, and they promptly and couteously evaluated our car. Dave and Danielle were very professional, had the right tools to quickly diagnose and address our issue-- and get off us to the mountain without delay. I would highly recommend Ward and Son's based on my experience.
