I bring my car to DR Automotive for practically everything-- he always fits me in, is honest, gets it done right, and the prices are so awesome. Love it here- glad Truckee is lucky enough to have him!

can not say enough good things about Dave and this shop. have been going here for years. wished i found it when i first moved to the area. i tell all my friends from work about this place. had a buddy lose his alternator on a trip from reno to the bay area and dave fixed him up fast and for a very reasonable price. you probably noticed that DR auto does NOT advertise . they don't have to. word of mouth keeps them busy. that's telling you something right there. sorry dave if you get more business from my review.

I've been using Dave for years. He is the only mechanic I trust in Truckee.

I drove over from Carson City. I had an appointment at 10 a.m. I am so sorry, I did not get the name of the person who was going to do my smog check. However, once he input the info on my car, he told me he was unable to do it. He did not have the kind of equipment to do the kind smog check it need. He instead, direct me to a shop that could, Quality Automotive and Smog. He gave me directions. He was most nice and considerate. Very professional!

I live in Truckee and was very happy when I was told about this place. Small operation, honest service and reasonably priced.
This is a local mechanic that you can trust.

I must admit that at first I was a little put off by the exterior of the shop and the lot.
But these guys were EXCELLENT. Really decent down to earth. Best yet, I didn't have to drive my F-150 to Reno and wait around all day. Their price was far less than the Ford dealers, and it took only about two hours for a 30,000 mile service.
Very old school, friendly. No corporate Bull Sh**.
I will certainly go there again.

I agree with one of the other reviewers that DR Automotive is a bit old school but very honest and reasonably priced. Have had multiple smog checks done there and always friendly and helpful. They have earned my appreciation and business. Small shop but knows what they are doing.

I was referred to this shop by a local friend. Needed a new wiper transmission put into my 2003 Subaru after it went south during a recent nasty snow storm. Dropped off the car at closing and Dave had the parts ordered first thing the next morning and installed that afternoon. The shop isn't neat and formal but the service is good and very reasonably priced. The 24 hour turnaround was great.

Barry was prompt, but useless. I had an overheat in a Chevy Astro which was towed there (Running Bear Tow Truckee suggested that was the best option). He "had his mechanic mate out back check it out" who was a complete idiot. Barry and his mate informed me that I had a blown head gasket, cracked radiator and a broken thermostat, all of which would amount to some insane amount of money. His mate (ken, maybe? ran another shop out the back) proceeded to offer me $100 for the van. Wreckers had advised me they would buy it for $450-600 depending on condition. I had it towed to a place in Reno (thank god for aaa plus towing service) who determined that all 3 of those parts were fine, and that it was the heater core that needed replacement, and the inlet manifold was damaged. Still a costly repair but nowhere near as much as they had said, and not even the same problems.
