Thanks Jim for taking care of my transmission woes. Fast, reasonably priced, professional service.
This shop was recommended to me by an ex-employee who said I could count on NOT being gouged or told I needed unnecessary repairs.
Walnut creek Transmission didn't disappoint.

Had to reschedule my appointment because of work. When I arrived on the day I rescheduled to, they had me down for the wrong day. They were very rude to me about the issue and obviously didn't care if they got my business or not.
I will never bring my business to them.

Thank you, Jim for a fantastic experience. I had a complete breakdown last week. Knowing it was my transmission, I had my 2012 Chevy Captiva towed to Jim on Tuesday afternoon. I received a call from Jim on Wednesday morning letting me know that I needed a new transmission but suggesting that I investigate my warranty further since the problem was so bad. Sure enough, after some calls to Chevy I was able to get my car repaired through the dealer at no cost to me. Jim could have made this a $5,000+ repair but he was honest with me. You don't find service like that often. I won't hesitate to recommend this shop in the future.

A few months ago I purchased a used 2003 Dodge Durango, and as you all know...when buying a used vehicle you never know what you're getting. Well that's exactly what happened to me. One day while driving it to work and trying to park, I put the vehicle into reverse and nothing happened. I made an appointment with the Concord AAMCO shop, then got onto YELP and started reading the reviews.
So many of the AAMCO reviews were horrible, I decided to go elsewhere. One of the YELPers with a horrible experience with the Concord AAMCO recommended this shop, Walnut Creek Transmission. I read some of these reviews and decided to take a chance. I am so glad I did.
This shop has been in business for 33 years. Let me tell you something, you don't get to stay in business for over 30 years if you aren't doing something right.
The service writers name is Vince. He is extremely knowledgeable with his job and the repairs. They saved the parts to show me the damage. I felt like I was treated very good and I would definitely return for work here if I ever needed to.
While I had my truck in their shop for the transmission repairs, I found out they are a total car care service center. So I had them make some front end repairs I also needed.
My wife and I just took the truck up to Reno for the weekend and it ran great. So I waited a little to see how the truck was running before writing my review.
If you need transmission work, or any other work for that matter, put your mind at ease and call Walnut Creek Transmission.
Vince (the service writer) even called me for a follow up and ask how the truck was running. When is the last time a shop has called you and asked how everything was with the repairs they made?? Probably never.
THANK YOU Vince.

Jim is honest, hard working and extremely knowledgeable about cars. He has been repairing cars for 40+ years and has owned Walnut Creek Transmission for 33 years. He has serviced our 4 cars for several years and ALWAYS without question does excellent work! Another auto repair place in Concord told us that our 2000 jeep grand cherokee was beyond repairing and that we should donate it. We took it to Walnut Creek transmission for a second opinion and Jim discovered that the problem was that we had the wrong size tire on it. 6 years later we still are driving this car! Look no further for a trustworthy mechanic!

I usually do my own work because I have been burned almost every time I have a car worked on.
I needed a limited slip differential installed in a Ford Focus with a 5 speed manual transmission, This job is beyond my skill-set, so I needed to find a place I could trust. I did a lot of searching and finely decided on Walnut Creek Transmission.
Before I could get the work done on my car though, a friend with a 2006 Miata had her throw-out bearing go out. Since I had already decided on WCT for myself, I recommended them. They got the work done on time and on budget. They used OEM quality parts, but without the OEM prices to go along with the quality. The price was fair and the warranty is pretty good. They did a thorough inspection of the car and let her know what was wrong with it, but were not pushy at all about it. In the end, the work was done right and no other problems cropped up.
I then brought my Focus in and had the differential replaced, as well as a new clutch and motor mounts installed, as well as a new reverse light switch. Again, the work was done on time and on budget and done well.
I will certainly be bringing my vehicles in to Walnut Creek Transmission whenever they need work that I can't or don't want to do myself. I'm happy to have found people I can trust.

I build hot rods and in preparing for a cross country trip, I put a rebuilt Ford AOD transmission in my "33 Ford Tudor. I screwed up the TV adjustment cable and burned up the fresh Trans in about five miles. Took the car to a well known shop in the area and had them rebuild the new but destroyed trans. Still not right and we were leaving with one hundred cars for Indianapolis in a few days. So I took the car to Jim at Walnut Creek and he immediately knew what was wrong...an internal spring had been left out . They fixed the trans and gave the car a good going over and we departed on our five thousand mile adventure. He is correct in his video, you can drive to New York after they work on your car.
When we returned, our daughter's Ford Escape had a hot oil smell. Took it to Ford and they wanted five thousand dollars to fix the oil leak. More than the car was worth. Jim and his crew found and fixed it for less than five hundred dollars.
My mid fifties Ford needed service that I did not feel like doing. WCT got the job and the car runs better than when I did the work.
Good shop.

Buyer beware
Let me start by saying the people at Walnut Creek Transmission are very nice people, and they may do very good brakes jobs and oil changes and other basic auto maintenance but when it comes to a full transmission rebuild my comment is "Buyer Beware. Here is my experience with a total transmission rebuild. I came in with a blown Transmission to Walnut Creek Transmission, I was very leery of whether or not to invest $3000.00 on a 1994 truck with 187 thousand miles on it but the man behind the counter told me that their transmission would last longer than my truck with 187 thousand miles. So I went ahead and made the plunge for $3100.00, only to be back at Walnut Creek transmission one year later at 197 thousand miles (+10,000 Miles) to invest an additional $751.00, I thought I was done but then a year later my truck breaks down again at 216 thousand miles (+18,000 miles) they fix it for an additional $378.00. So now I am into the transmission replacement a total of $4320.00 and I have driven the truck for a total of 40,000 miles for $4300.00 in 4 years.
That brings me to today when the truck broke down again with a blown transmission again. Their offer to me was for an additional $2000.00 they would repair the transmission they put in 43,000 miles ago and $ 4300.00 expense to me. I juncked the truck. So Please buyer beware! When you have Walnut Creek Transmission rebuild a transmission for you. They do not stand behind their work. I didn't expect the work for free but I invested a lot of money for very little return. Good Luck.

The folks at Walnut Creek Transmission have earned my 5 star review. I have a 2003 GMC Yukon XL and it has 270,000 miles. I heard noises from the transmission and thought the worst. I used to take it to AAMCO but all they seem to do is want to replace the transmission. I went in to see Vince and he said they would take a look. 4 hours later my car was fixed for only $300.00. The problem was quite minor and they were fast and very honest. I thought I was going to have to buy a newer vehicle and by being so honest and courteous they now have earned my review and business. Thank you Vince and the folks at Walnut Creek Transmission.

No doubt my friends. This shop is for real! They fixed my 2006 mini cooper s which has valve body problem. They used quality parts and even did a full inspection of the car...for free! They gave me pointers on what and how to fix small issues in my car. Jim and his staff are well equiped and very knowledgeable. I will definitely recommend them to all my friends. When it come to prices, they were reasonable. Hey They even gave me an extra $100off on my bill when i mentioned Yelp. Great guys...thanks again walnut creek transmission! Its a pleasure to have met u guys. God bless

Took my vintage LandCruiser to WC Trans because of a "whine" that turned out to be the power steering pump. Got that fixed but it turns out that my truck transmission (GM motor and auto had been swapped in) needed some help.,..a full rebuild.
Jim and the crew rebuilt the Beast and made it better than new. Went through some special challenges due to the non-stock combination of Toyota and General Motors and they stepped up at every point.
They dealt with a bunch of other stuff as well - suspension, u-joints, etc. in addition to torque converter and transmission rebuild. They upgraded the GM 4speed auto for boat towing and it will haul a battleship.
It takes time to do a job right - it also takes time to get into the place sometimes. They are busy - popular guys - but worth the wait and effort.

Had a clutch rebuild done on my 15 year old Ford F150 truck.
Price was very good and in-line with other shops and the Ford dealers. Plus their work is guaranteed for 2 years.
Andre was professional and honest and communicated well. Final price was actually below the original written estimate and the car was ready a full half-day earlier than we expected.
In the process of the clutch rebuild, they called and let me know the rear engine seal had been leaking for some time and the economical time was now to deal with that since the transmission was out of the truck and same for all the clutch components. I had noticed an oil leak on my garage floor for the past 1-1.5 years...so this news was not really a surprise. Taking care of the rear engine seal, now, was only a few hundred $$'s more...rather than a much more expensive repair in the future.
So they did the rear seal and still got the truck done early.
It drives great and runs "peppy" since there is no more clutch slip.
They also did a inspection and advised of other items that will need attention in the near future (my truck is 15 years old).
I would not hesitate to come back and would recommend the Walnut Creek Transmission shop to other folks needing their services.
Nice folks to work with and a very clean and well organized repair shop.
3-12-2014 Update : Brought in my wife's 15 year old M-B 320 CLK. Had Jim and the shop do brakes/rotors, oil & filter change, and a transmission service. Really excellent work, fair pricing and no surprises. Car runs and stops great. Will be back, again.

I have a 2003 Toyota Matrix with a manual transmission that pretty much died. Jemco in Oakland was recommended to me by another mechanic but I Yelped around and found these guys who quoted me $500 less. Given the good reviews I figured there was no risk and I was right.
These guys are very friendly and helpful. They took my tranny apart and replaced everything that was damaged (a bearing had basically exploded, a Toyota design flaw). They got it back up and running and it's been smooth driving since. The warranty they gave me is double what Jemco and other places offered.
The only gripe I have is that they took about a week longer than expected because they were short staffed around Christmas time.
Take your car here! They also do oil changes and other general maintenance.

My transmission broke down. I called my dealership and got a price quote for a re-built transmission for about $5100. I had the car taken to Aamco for a second opinion, they told me it'll be a free evaluation. A "week" later they called that they need to take the car apart for $880 to properly diagnose what needs to be re-built. Their quote was $5600... really? Higher than Range Rover dealership??? I had them put the car back together and called around and got few quotes around $3300 - $3500. I took it to Walnut Creek Transmission and was pleasantly surprised from the initial phone call. Very friendly and attentive customer service. I had my car towed in. They called me every day with a progress and car was done in 3 days. This place did a great job, they have a wonderful customer service and are priced well ($3400).
I highly recommend them and will be a loyal customer. They do everything...

Our dealings with Walnut Creek Transmission have been nothing but superb. They have literally saved 2 of our Jeeps. Jim the owner has a wealth of knowledge, Alex at the front desk has great people skills, and the mechanics work well with both of them. They let us chart our own course and pace for repairs, informed us all along the way, and were very patient when we needed time to make careful financial decisions. We highly recommend them. Walnut Creek Transmission is our mechanic of choice.

We've been going to these guys for the past ten years and every single person is absolutely amazing. They're honest, knoweldgeable, friendly, and have always been there for us. I really don't know too much about cars, but they always take the time to explain everything to me in layman terms so that I walk away more educated and confident in whatever car it is I'm driving or buying.
I always call them and run different cars by them before even thinking of test driving a car. We were recently in the market to buy a car, and the day we decided we were going to get one, I called my boys, ohhhh about a dozen times throughout the day asking them questions and getting their opinion. Alex was our main go-to guy for this particular buying round. He was super helpful, patient and just sincerely cared. . Anyhoo, we ended up checking out a car in San Mateo - and here's how much I trust them, and how loyal I am to these dudes - and told the dealer that there wasn't going to be any buying until we had our awesome reliable Walnut Creek Transmission crew check it out first. So we drove it all the way to Walnut Creek and back (over an hour each way) and then drove back and bought the car.
We LOVE these guys and wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone and everyone!

I was in a real bind. I commute everyday from Sacramento to Walnut Creek. Last week my car started having problems and basically died upon arrival to work. After calling 10+ repair shops in town Walnut Creek Transmission agreed to take a look right away. Am I glad I found this place!!!! I was treated so well from the moment I arrived. The person at the desk genuinely wanted to turn my bad day into a good day. After they gave me a ride back to my office and my car being there most of the day I received a call saying my car was fixed and running great! There was no nasty surprises and in no way was I taken advantage of.
I am truly great full to this place and the amazing staff. My car is still running great.
Thank you for being one of the last honest repair shops. I really appreciate your service and look forward to bringing my car back for its routine maintenance.

Top notch service from these guys! I brought my cobra in with a failing throwout bearing, they confirmed the problem and contacted me right away. They had also found my clutch was worn out. The tech recommended I come down to see what they had found (KUDOS)! I provided the parts and the repairs were done in a timely manner. I'm so happy to have my cobra back - with a new, properly adjusted clutch.
It's rather difficult to find a reputable auto shop and I'm just glad I gave Walnut Creek Transmission a shot. I would recommend these guys any day of the week!

Very good repair shop, I used their service 2 times, fixing few problems with my Mazda 6, some of them were minor, some of them were pretty serious, and I was always completely satisfied by both quality and price. Brian was so patient explaining me in details all the issues I had with my car, which issues are good to fix, which one can be pending for some time. Other than that, I found their prices to be less expensive than average in the area, and they did not charge me extra for parts they installed, I mean this replaced parts were not overpriced, like some shops do. So I can definitely recommend this repair shop.

A friend said my engine was squeaking, so I brought it in. The mechanic heard it and took a closer look at the problem. Found the problem was due to the old serpentine belt and pulley. With my approval, they fixed it with aftermarket parts. Squeak is gone and running great again!

This is my first time at the shop and i went there because of the good reviews. True!! The work is really good. I was told about the problem, and it was fixed the next morning. However, honesty is very important to me. Here's what happened. I was given a price for an initial diagnostic, and i was told that the price was final in terms of labor and cost of the parts. The next morning when i picked up the car, I was surprised to learn that the charges were higher, and when i asked for an explanation about the additional charges, there was none. I did not dispute the charges that day because i was rushing to work. I contacted the shop the following day to ask again for a logical explanation of the additional cost (primarily because i want to know what i exactly paid for). I was told that the cost of the parts was determined by the VIN Number of the car. Is this really true??? If two cars were built identically within the same year with exactly the same model type and features, i don't believe the cost of the exact same parts of the two cars would be different. That was the only explanation i was given and it didn't make sense to me at all. Very disappointed!!! this shop was very close in distance and i was really considering returning to the shop for more work. Not at this time though. Am I wrong about this?

We have been going to Walnut Creek transmission for about 5 years. As a female who doesn't know anything about cars, this place was recommended to us through a friend. We have never been disappointed. Jim and his team go above and beyond in ensuring our cars are taken care of at a decent price. The customer service is awesome, Jim is friendly and truly cares about his customers and their cars. I wouldn't take our cars anywhere else!

Wow, what can I say about this amazing business!!! James (the owner) is an amazing transmission builder.
First of all I want to say that I am a master VW/Audi technician and have been looking for a competent VW transmission builder for a long time to rebuild my complicated 01M 4 speed automatic transmission. Every shop that I have called wants nothing to do with these VW transmissions and they simply say they don't work on them!
Even my boss who owns a German repair shop said there are NO transmission builders who can successfully work on them; due to all of his bad experiences with other transmission shops over the 25 years he has been in business.
This shop (Walnut Creek Transmision) and especially James (the owner) made me a true believer when he flawlessly rebuilt my transmission on my 2002 VW Golf TDI. He added all the upgrades and modifications that improved the shifting like you wouldn't believe!!! Silky smooth, Firm, and fast shifting!!! James knows all the flaws and problems associated with these transmissions and has all the special tools to add the upgrades and he explained everything to me.
Whatever kind of car you have. I would trust walnut creek transmission. He seems to be extremely knowledgeable with european transmissions and has one of the only transmission shops that has the ability and machinery to rebuild torque-converters in-house!!!
Thank You, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!!

Watch out for these guys, very sketchy specially Alex (estimator). They use scare tactics to make you use their repair facility. I was told the worst scenario for my transmission work. I was provided the option of removing the transmission to determine the problem, that meant I was stuck with their estimate! I quote them "we can't look through steel", this after I told them what codes the check engine light read out via my OBD code reader. Get another quote there are other repair shops out there that are more honest and at a low cost.

These guys were great... true honest mechanics!
While other Transmission shops recommended a full Rebuild and quotes as high as $3200, Walnut Creek Transmission called to tell me that it only needed a partial rebuild, and that the other components had plenty of life left in them. They did the necessary repairs, including an ongoing oil leak I was having from the rear main engine seal, for $1300. My SUV runs great. Thanks guys!

I have a BMW and was told by BMW that it would cost me $5500 plus to fix my car due to the transmission going out. I almost had a heart attack. I spoke to a couple of other places but was referred to Brian at Walnut Creek Transmission. Him and Alex were great at explaining what the car needed as well as assuring me that they would do their very best on pricing. Not only did they repair my transmission, but they also did some additional repairs and replacements all for $1500 less then the very lowest price that I was quoted for the transmission only. When I went in to pick up my car, they gave me a print out of things I may want to replace i.e. tires (which they do not do) and the women at the front desk was very friendly as well. Just a great place to take your car. Highly recommend them if you are worried about where to go. Last but not least...from the day they started working on the car, it was only four days before I was able to pick up. They did a ton of work in a short amount of time since it was a full over haul!!! Great work and thank you SO much!

I had a very bad experience at Walnut Creek transmission. At first it seemed like a decent shop. But after returning to pick up my classic muscle car it was scratched. When I made reference to the scratch and showed the owner Jim all he had to say was they should not be held responsible for the damage that occurred at his shop. He was actually iterated with me to even suggest that the damage had been done there.
When I tried to talk to him about it all I got was excuses after excuses.
I dont mind that accidents happen, but what i can't excuse is the unprofessional way that I was treated after the fact. I just wanted my car to repaired back to its original state. I got absolutely no help from Jim at all and had to turn it in to my Insurance to get help.
My insurance company will be going after their shop . This one is not over by a long shot.
Not to mention they had replaced a heater core in my car only to find that the ac had been disconnected and my stereo wires were also disconnected. This is not a very thorough shop and lacks professionalism.
Find another shop this one will not stand behind damage they cause.
I have owned my own company for 22 years and i do know a thing about customers service.
