My Mazda has over 250,000 miles and has only recently begun to need some minor repairs. I have entrusted Clayton Auto Service to do the repairs. They are always kind, efficient, personable and reliable. I had a frank talk with Irfan the owner regarding hanging on to the car at this stage of its age/mileage, and he encouraged me to repair what was needed as otherwise, it's in pretty good shape. Thank you, Irfan, Steve and Armando for giving me and my car great service!

Same issue as another reviewer. They lied. Came in for an oil change and general car check up as I was planning to go on a road trip. They told me my catalytic converter was damaged and would cost around $1000 to get fixed and wouldn't pass smog without it. My dad suggested I try to get it smogged anyway since my registration was due, and guess what!! IT PASSED! And it came with a complete breakdown on paper, and it shows "Catalytic Converter: PASS" !
and another mechanic friend of mine said that my oil was so dirty they must not have actually changed the oil because they got distracted by the "catalytic converter issue" but didn't seem to notice my MOTOR WAS LOOSE. $60 for nothing. Females be aware, they will rip you off.

TL;DR: Incompetent customer service, lied about the parts they put in my vehicle, took 5 hours to do what was supposed to be one simple job.
My most recent trip here, I came in to get a radiator flush as my coolant level had been low and I topped off with too much water. Been running like that for a few weeks and wanted to get some proper fluid in there.
Guy behind the counter says he wants to check for leaks, to make sure that there's no issue. Fine, go ahead.
Says they do a pressure test, find out the water leak is coming from the water pump, and supposedly a temp sensor and gasket need to be replaced. I asked to see the parts, and in all honesty there appeared to be nothing wrong with them. No visible wear or tear, everything moving as it should be. He claimed there was some issue with the bearings in it, which is why it rattled, even though you couldn't hear any such noise, nor had I noticed it driving before.
The second car I ever owned, the water pump went bad, the whole engine seized and I ended up having to junk the car. This still fresh in my mind, I figure even though this is way more than I had anticipated spending, I didn't really want to take the chance. Car is 13 years old, so maybe he's right. He says they'll use OEM Manufacturer parts to replace and repair, so fine by me.
Calls to warehouse to get parts delivered, supposedly they are on there way and should be at the shop inside half an hour. Half hour comes and goes, then an hour, still no parts. Another half hour, and I finally tell them to call back and find out what the delay is. Apparently delivery guy didn't come into work, so the parts never would have shown up had I not thought to ask them to call back. Apparently they were content to leave me sitting there the whole afternoon.
They send off one of their guys to pick up the parts, come back, and finally get to work. About an hour after that (about 5 hours into my sitting at the damn shop), they are finally done, and it comes time to settle up the bill.
The gasket is no longer listed on the parts list, nor the temp sensor; neither were replaced. Both parts are removed from the bill, and I'm looking to see the parts cost have gone down, but suddenly the water pump is 25 dollars more expensive. And even though they did less labor replacing the parts, the cost of that is still the same.
After I get home, my GF, who was the manager of a parts department for a large dealership looks over the receipt, and informs me that the part number listed is NOT in fact a Ford OEM part, just to top it all off. Confirmed this by calling a Ford Dealership and getting the actual part number from them.
I can't put these guys on blast enough. I will probably go back and file a complaint with the owner, who seemed like a nice guy the first time I brought my car there for a smog.

Cheap and honest. I thought I had a lot more wrong with the car and was ready to pay but he told me it was all good! They forgot to do the oil change but when he found out they were literally running to change my oil ! It's hard to find honest hard working mechanics.

Made the long trip back to the Bay and wouldn't you know it? The infamous CHECK ENGINE LIGHT comes on. Honestly...I hate that thing. It's like a siren that goes off that gives you know NO information on what's wrong. Oxygen sensor? Catalytic converter? I wish cars would give more helpful warming info without the the need for plugging in the diagnostic sensor port. But I digress.
Armando at Clayton Auto service was very nice and helpful. Showed me the code right there and said they would diagnose what's wrong, telling me the labor rate and saying that it would cost more for parts only if it was necessary. In the end the engine was running lean because the fuel lines were losing vacuum pressure. They cleaned my mass flow sensor while they were at it. In the end I they were relatively quick and transparent. Can't ask for more than that from an auto shop!

I came right when they opened on a Saturday at 8:30 am and there was no one in front of me. All I needed was an oil change and Samir said that it would take 1 hour. I thought that was a bit long for a simple oil change when they have 4 people working on cars. Usually, it takes thirty minutes to do a oil change at most.
The reason was because they decide to work on cars that are already in the shop from night prior instead of working on a customer's car that comes in right when they open for business. I've never seen a auto shop that is so inefficient. Instead of having one of the guys do a oil change job first and get that out. They instead choose to work on other people's cars that aren't even waiting for their car.
So a supposedly 1 hour oil change takes 2.5 hours due to inefficiency and lack of customer's respect. I obviously will not be bringing my business back here.

I've taken my old Altima here for a few things over the past couple years and have always gotten fast, friendly service. I just got a new Santa Fe a month ago, and I already got a flat tire (it had a screw embedded in it). I brought it to Clayton Auto service to be repaired and I got the same fast friendly service. I highly recommend them, and will always go to them for any car repairs we need!

Brought my 2006 mustang in for a smog check in March. They said it would not pass and wanted to charge me $1,000 to fix a pipe so that it would pass. Brought the car to a reputable dealer in Walnut Creek, who said nothing was wrong with the car. Good thing I went for a second opinion. Could have been ripped off for $1,000 by CAS. And to-boot, they charged me the $60 for the smog check they said didn't pass! Shouldn't try to rip off ladies! Never going there again!!! Beware...

Came here for two visits. We came in to get smogged and get a tire pressure monitor sensor replaced. Both visits were very smooth. Irfan and his crew were friendly, transparent and got the job done. They are a breath of fresh air compared to most dealership service experiences where you will be overcharged for any type of service.

Don't go there , theyll rip you off. they charge for smog check twice more than other places.
I wont trust them with prices and work done.
Make sure check the charges with other places and shop around before you decide to go there , I suggest not choose them at all.

I have had numerous alignments done here on different types of vehicles. They are always professional in their approach to dealing with customers. There are not many times when you look forward to having your car serviced right? Well Erfan, and staff, will do their darndest to change that. Erfan is a straight shooter- he will not try and sell you ANY services that aren't necessary. He takes pride in his work, says what he means and means what he says. A real gem of a find and worth driving a little distance to get to if you aren't in Clayton

So, the reason for one star was because the service wasn't even done. A simple oil change on a f 550 work truck for my company they could not perform correctly. I even brought one of my work officials in to introduce ourselves to the owner irfan. Everything went well at the shop, and when we went to pick up the truck we saw that there was no oil in the truck! it didn't even read one drop. That was the climax of our decision to not go with this company for our business needs caused by bad first impressions and untrustworthy. It was a brand new f550 truck, and what if the truck was damaged or the engine malfunctioned because lack of oil? When we brought it back, he didn't apologize or anything. He obviously knew exactly what he was doing, a total scam. Then, when I went to the back to pick up the truck I noticed a few employees smoking pot near the cars that they working on. very unprofessional ran business.

I needed to get one of our cars smogged, and yelped the area near my house. Clayton Auto popped up and i decided the reviews worth a trip there.
I walked in, and asked about smog, the owner greeted me kindly, and let me know he would be right with me.
He proceeded to help the customer who was there to pick up his daughters car. The owner explained in detail what needed to be done, and that the estimate he got at another shop was high, quoted with extra parts not needed and basically a rip off.
Im a small business owner with an automotive shop myself and appreciate another shop going above and beyond to not rip customers off. I strive to provide what my customers need and think that too many other auto shops over charge..... Clayton auto DOES NOT OVER CHARGE and does not give you things you do need.
I had my baby with me when i went for smog, and took my car right away so that i didnt have to wait in the triple digit heat for long. He said would usually have me leave the car because of how busy they are, but he went out of his way to help a new mom on a hot summer day!
I would highly recommend this place to anyone in need of smog or general repair.

Wow. Just wow. The people here are unbelievably friendly! They gave great advice and great prices. Also, I never once felt as though I was being talked down to because I'm a girl. They have a great TV area to sit and relax in and they even turned on the AC for me while I waited (which wasn't long btw). I cannot recommend this place enough - I like them so much more than my dealer's service department.

This place is great; the owner is always very friendly and accomodating. I have had him tell me how to do things myself if I want to to save some money, and he has given services to me for free that he could have easily charged me for. I have even come by once to have him help me because I did not have a tool I needed to work on my car and he quickly helped me use his tool to get what I needed done. His prices have been fair and it is very obvious that he is honest and is not trying to get extra money out of me. All of my experiences with his employees have also been great. I plan to come here in the future for whatever I need.

Clayton Auto Service was recommended to me by a friend. I was having trouble getting my car smogged and the check engine light was on. The first shop charged me $49.95 and told me my car failed the test, I said, yeah, I know the check engine light is on, what is the problem? They said they were a "Test Only" shop and couldn't do the necessary mechanical work, Brilliant, fifty buck down the drain and a total waste of my time. The next shop "Estimated" $190 to fix the problem and then the additional cost of the smog test, but couldn't guarantee they knew exactly what was wrong. FRUSTRATING!! I felt like I as getting the total 'run around' with my hard earned money at risk. My Friend said, "go talk to Irfan at Clayton Auto Service." They were real busy that Friday afternoon but after waiting 20 minutes Irfan had one of his guys check out my car and the check engine light. In about 5 minutes they found a cracked vacuum hose and with about 18" of new hose the problem was fixed. Twenty five minutes later I was out the door with my smog check in hand. They charged me $60 for the test $15 for the hose and an additional $20 minimum labor charge. I was thrilled!! These guys were straight up AWESOME!! Smart mechanic's, super reasonable prices and no doubt trustworthy. While I live in Richmond I will only use Clayton Auto Service in the future, the extra 20 minute drive time is well worth the value they bring to the table.

The owner- I think his name is Irfan is very friendly. I took my truck to this place when I noticed my temp gauge seemed to be running a little hot. I guessed it was a stuck thermostat. Irfan agreed. I dropped it off and he indicated it would be about $175.00- I thought that was steep but I don't have a garage or any place to perform the work myself. A few hours later Irfan called me back. He said he has some bad news... He told me I also needed a new water-pump. I thought that was odd because I replaced the water-pump and fanclutch myself about 1 year prior. He also indicated I would need new belts, pulleys, AC compressor, and timing chain. TIMING CHAIN!? Those typically last the life of the engine, I only had 107,000 miles!! I thanked him for his "service" and told him I would be by to pick up the truck. I asked he not perform any more work on it. I arrived, paid Irfan and took my truck home. A week later I drained the radiator as I didn't think he even replaced the thermostat. I noticed a small leak in the radiator and decided to replace that as well. He did perform the work he indicated, but it seemed like he really wanted to sell me other unnecessary service. My truck is running great now- No thanks to Clayton Auto Service. If you want to pay out the ass, I'm sure he performs fine work. Don't trust him to give you an honest estimate. He will find additional work to perform in an effort to get more money. Find a mechanic you can trust.

I had a nail in my tire on my Lexus, in the tread. These guys were going to fix it quickly for me, until they pulled the tires off and found that they were both about ready to blow. I had a very busy day the next day, and couldn't afford to mess around with this. Irfan, the manager, ordered the tires and had them balanced and ready to mount the next morning when I arrived. An hour later, I was on my way with new tires and an alignment. The prices are very fair, the place is clean and the staff is super friendly. This will be my new go-to place for service on our vehicles. I am really picky about this sort of thing, and they get straight A's from me!

They do quality work at a fair price. The only issue I have is their time estimates: this will take 30 mins, means check back in an hour. This will take 1 hour means it'll take 2. Best advice is to leave your car there and expect its going to take double the time they say it will.
Mention the penny saver ad and they'll give you a discount.

i took my ford diesel truck in for a routine alignment. it needed camber bushings to set properly so it turned out not to be so routine. the guys there worked together to get it done. right as we wrapped things up it turned out i had a bent tie rod coupler. they called one of their parts suppliers but they delivered the wrong part. they called another supplier who also ended up bringing the wrong part again!
two of the mechanics got into the car and drove to the supplier and got the part themselves, came back and got right to finishing the job. did i mention their shop has state of the art equipment?
these guys are legit! they go above and beyond to make things right. i told one of the shop supervisors to give all their mechanics who helped me a raise!
i'll be back again and again. A+ work guys.

There aren't many service centers around today that provide the kind of service of the old days when the owner smiles and remembers your name after a few visits, chats you up, asks about your family and goes the extra mile to satisfy you.
Here you'll find quick service and fair prices!
There's really no need to look further: this is the place you want to go for auto service of any kind --- you'll return again and again a very "happy camper."

My brakes have been squeaking for a while, I got extra paranoid one day when they made a funny noise so i took it to another mechanic that told me that my brakes & roders needed to be changed. My estimate there was over the top expensive.
My husband called about six other places & asked them if we could get it done today, they all said no. So I took some responsibility & found this place. He told me that it could be done by today.
There he told me that my brakes were still at 40%. & they were making a squeaky noise because the last time they were done they put on cheap pads.
Wtf, what place tells you that?!
Any other mechanic would have ripped me off. I was happy when I walked out the first time & now I'm just shocked.
So I leave this place about an hour after I brought it in paying as much as the estimate was at the other place for: fixed pads, oil change, & new filters.
I'm a young blonde female, and I have a considerable amount of fear that im going to be ripped off when dealing with car repair because I have no mechanical intelligence.
Finally an honest place. Few

Called the dealership. They wanted $250 for an oil change, air filter, and tire rotation. Called clayton auto because they were close by. They were able to do everything the dealer was going to do for under $100. Not only that but because my car is the newest model they had to get the air filter from the dealership. The dealership wanted $70 just for the air filter change. Clayton auto put the exact same one in (it came from the dealer) for $20. Highly recommend giving this store a shot!

I've dealt with Irfan for a number of years and his approach is always draining your wallet by leading you from a small repair which will not fix the problem, to the most expensive which is where you always end up spending. In addition, he will not even guarantee that the repair will fix the problem!! Do not let him sweet talk you and if you do go to this shop for some reason, I strongly recommend that you get a second opinion. There's lots of auto shop around Concord especially on Monument row. Irfan is not a person that you can trust especially in this business.

He hasn't lost his touch, he got my car done faster than I anticipated, I needed to go back for alignment and transmission fluid for which he recommended. I came to Clayton Auto Service because of the good Yelp reviews and they didn't disappoint. I have to say in contrast to the one bad-ish review I read they were very professional. They were courteous and personable. Not the greaser feel you usually get at auto service places. They took the time to explain what they did, explain what I needed done at a later date and how long I could afford to wait to do it. They price match, and are very honest about what they do and why. They didn't try to do work that didn't need to be done or pressure me into doing anything I wasn't ready to pay for. I had initially asked for a tune up and smog check, but when they inspected the vehicle they found that the tune up wasn't necessary, all it needed was an oil change and filter changes. So that's all they did. AFTER clearing it with me first. Professional. I will return to them for the additional work I need and I will bring my other car to them. I highly recommend them and will be recommending them to friends and family.

I own an MDX 05 and like many of you who only trusted certain mechanics even if it means driving 30 miles just to feel better that you're getting the right service for your money. But one day it just took its toll on me to realized that convenience and schedules had become increasingly impossible. Until my sister immense recommendation of the owner by the name of Irfan and his group of misfit from Clayton Auto Service just half a mile from our home. I was apprehensive but curious of their swagger considering the magnitude of the job requiring a valve(s) adjustment on my first trial visit. At last, the anxious moment finally came. All I can say is Clayton Auto Service will be if not the best place to put your vehicle in great running condition!

First time customer and I will definitely continue to do business with Irfan and Team.
I found this place looking for specialized wheel balance and alignment equipment on the equipment manufactures website and very glad I did. They have all new top of the line equipment which was an indicator to me right away. Any shop willing to put forth such an investment must be serious about doing good work.
I was right. Not only was the team willing to explain things but also willing to do the work I asked, the way I asked it to be done. There is a casual attitude but behind is dedicated/professional work. Additionally while I was waiting numerous long time customers stopped by happy to welcome back the manager who had just returned to this store a short time ago. With the reassurance of so many unsolicited returning customers and the quality of service I received I will have no qualms about referring these guys to friends and family.

Car overheated for the 2nd time in its lifetime (ten year lifespan). I took it in let them know of my problems and dropped off the car. The previous overheat that I took to a different place took three days, so I was shocked to say the least when I received a call from the owner saying that It was ready for pick up. The overall job took about 3 hours and it ended up being cheaper than my last visit. I dont know what it is about these guys but I was getting good vibes which is important to me since I have NO idea about cars. And I like that the owner is inside the trenches with his mechanics shows that he really cares about his business and customer service!

I've used this place a few times, mainly for alignment. I bought a car from an insurance auction and needed the headlight, brake and smog inspections and certificates. Irfan the owner offered me a very fair price, $60 lower than the lowest offer from the other 3 shops I had called. As it turned out, the car needed front brake pads and there was a small crack in one of the tail light lenses. They offered me a very fair price to do the brakes, but this is something I am able to do as well. I paid for the inspections and picked up the car, they gave me the smog paperwork and instructions to bring the car back with the old replaced brake parts. I changed out the brakes and tail light lens and returned the following day. I fully expected to pay a little bit more for having the bring them the car twice. Irfan glanced at the old brake parts and new tail light lens and returned 2 minutes later with the approved inspections certificates. I asked him what I owed him and he said, "nothing, just refer us to a friend." I buy and sell a few cars a year and frequently deal with a wide range of repair shops. I felt I got an excellent value for their services and that they are 100% trustworthy... without question an exception to the rule. They will be my first call the next time I need anything in auto service!!

It is very rewarding to find an honest, careful and communicative person such as Irfan by accident. While having a car washed at the Chevron in front of his shop I noted they performed smog checks. The old ride--a 1989 Volvo 740 was in need. To make what could be a very long story short, Irfan and his boys spent hours researching and diagnosing a problem caused by ambiguous information available on the car and ended up only charging for the original smog certificate. If you want fancy--lattes, ambient lighting or plush surroundings; go elsewhere and pay for it, However If you good timely and honest service, give Irfan a try!

Steve the General Manager and Mr. Irfan Lead Expert and Owner are absolutely spectacular Professionals in their experience and ability and with their highly-skilled professional staff at Clayton Auto Service. I am an industrial controls and instrumentation engineer and work on outdated obsolete equipment all the time that is the most challenging experience that you can possibly imagine. Automotive models of cars, vehicles and trucks and so highly challenging and if not maybe perhaps more challenging than anything else due to all the variations with all these different models that are offered. The Clayton Auto Service Staff was able to immediately identify the problem with my car that had a Lean Fuel Mixture error codr indication showing multiple possibilities of malfunction. Clayton Auto Service immediately expedited to correct the problem and with wondrous ability had it completed in less than an hour and a half of time I was sure the bill would be up to $1,300 on this repair just from my experience of Automotive Repair and work. The Clayton Automotive Bill was less than $200 !!! Unbelievably onexpensive. They didn't even charge me for the actual labor that should have been charged or for the diagnostic engineering that should have been charged on top of that I just was absolutely amazed at the precise ability and experience to identify the correct cause if a split hose in the system. My car runs fantastic just as good as the day it rolled off the showroom floor. NOTE that MY 2003 Honda Accord is 13 Years Old. I can't possibly say enough THANK YOU or enough appreciative comments here on this post about what a wonderful organization and a Group of Professionals that this team here at Clayton Auto Service really are but I generally from the bottom of my heart want to say that I appreciate everything that they've done for me and I will refer business to this organization as much as possible and I hope that you will feel the same in your experience here today. My name is Harry Taylor with a major Corporate Engineering Group in California. Thanks so much Clayton Auto Service, Irfan, Steve and All Professional Team !!!!

I was sold when I overheard Irfan say to another customer, "I'll just fix it because it's not safe for you to drive around like this. You can just pay me when you have the money. Your safety is more important than my money." Other than that they do quality work for a great price and they get it right the first time. You can't ask for more in a mechanic.

Came in on New Year's Eve 6:30pm with a massive oil leak and they took care of it, even though they were clearly closing. Found the problem, fixed it. Didn't even charge me for labor. Friendly. Knowledgeable. Responsive. Recommended!
