Great staff, friendly and knowledgeable. I took my 528i in for a brake job because the local dealer told me I needed it. Got a call from Brown saying that I didn't need it. They have my business now!

This place is a joke. I moved here a little while ago after using the same mechanic for over a decade. My old mechanic knows my BMW in and out. When I called him to tell him what was going wrong he instantly knew what it was. It was a cheap fix with minimal parts and labor. I took it to this shop, the guy at the desk immediately told me it was something extremely expensive without even asking me for a lot of details. I told him to diagnose it and get back to me. When they called they had not even checked what I told them to check but instead insisted on it being something extremely expensive. They could not answer any specific questions about my car probably because they had barely looked at it. I ended up bringing my car 8 hours to my old mechanic and leaving it with a friend there. I WOULD RATHER DRIVE 8 HOURS THAN USE THESE PEOPLE. I think that says enough. They tried to charge me $2,000! My mechanic at home fixed it for $200!

I paid an initial payment of over 2,600.00 dollars to this repair shop to replace an engine in a BMW Z3. They gave me the specs of the motor that was supposed to be replacing the current one. I agreed to the Specs and they went on with the job. Apparently the engine malfunctioned on Friday the 14th of February and they did not call me to tell me so. I called late on Tuesday to see why my car was not ready yet and they told me they should have called me a few days before when it malfunctioned. At this time I told them not to order a new Engine and I wanted a refund because I cant go another few weeks without a car. So I bought I new one. I call them on Thursday and find out that they went ahead and ordered another engine although I told them not to do so. I do not know any specs for this Engine or did I agree to have this engine installed. Now they are refusing to try to send it back for a refund and give me any of my money back although I do not want this engine put in or any work done to my vehicle Most Shapdy Place Ever!!! STAY AWAY!!!

I have a 2011 Mercedes GLK350, I went to Browns and asked how much It would cost to replace my left low beam light and my parking light lamp if I provided the lights. I was told $52.00. I than called another repair shop and I was told it would cost $350.00 because it would be a 3 hour job. I went to Browns thinking they had miss quoted the price and was ready to remind them of the price they had quoted me. The price was $52.00 and it took less than an hour. Thank you so much for being honest and not ripping a clueless female that knows nothing about repairs. The other dealer all I can say is shame on you! Delphinia

All I can say is terrible. I dropped off my car prior to them closing due to vehicle not starting unless you ran a wire to the starter and they promised to have my car back to me before 2pm the following day. They kept their promise and returned my car with a new starter and ignition switch by 12 am with a payment of 800 somewhat dollars. I never asked nor they called to confirm the ignition switch replacement and that made me wonder. Called the dealer/did research and realized that if your vehicle has a bad starter you won't be able to jump it in order to your operate vehicle. My vehicle started when you jumped it so never needed a starter and basically was charged $800 dollars for a $100 ignition switch replacement.

They did a good job with a minor repair of my Volvo S60 T5. I was concerned the front end needed more repairs but they got the car in, fixed it quickly, and advised a new set of tires and alignment. I followed their advice and my car drives like new.

Summary: They have less expertise, charge more, and provide worse service than the BMW dealership. If you have a BMW, at least check with the dealership first. First off, my car would start and then immediately die. Had it towed in, and it miraculously started running again when it hit the shop. They couldn't find the problem (which is hard to do when the car isn't showing symptoms), so they charged me for the tow and I took my car back. Totally fine. Next, I asked for a tune-up. They quoted me $500 for a tune-up on a BMW. Seemed reasonable for the kind of car, so I agreed. They then called me mid-day with my car in their shop and said it would be $890. I agreed because I didn't want to have to drive out from work and take my car back with no work done. That said, when the price nearly doubles once they have the car, that strikes me as questionable. The parts are nowhere near even $500 and I could do the job myself in an hour. Needed a new battery, asked for a quote. Just to check, I compared with the BMW dealership, whom I'd been warned to avoid. The dealership charged me less than Brown Motor Works, pointed out several major problems with my car which Brown Motor Works had missed, and then proceeded to talk me through exactly how I could fix those problems myself to save money. The dealership charged less, knew more, and provided far better customer service than Brown Motor Works. The dealership also made a point of helping me to save money and help myself. Brown Motor Works did not. I never expected the dealership to be the good guys, but in my experience, they're unquestionably the better choice. Please note, Brown Motor Work's customer service wasn't bad or unfriendly. It was quite friendly. They just didn't go out of their way or make time for you like the dealership did.

I'm from Greenville SC and while in Columbia I felt some unusual shaking from the engine of my 2007 BMW 328i. I found Brown Motor Works online as they were listed as BMW repair shop. My roadside assistance scheduled a tow truck to arrive at 3PM. I called Brown Motor and they said they will do their best to inspect my car the same day. They close at 5:30PM. We arrived at Brown Motor at 4PM. By 5PM my car was inspected. They could've fixed it the same night, but they needed to order a part which arrived first thing next morning. By 11AM on the next day my car was ready in perfect condition. I even used their complimentary shuttle service to be picked up from downtown Columbia. Great work Brown Motor Works!!! --Lyudmil Ivanov
