I brought my truck here to have the clutch replaced. I got the truck back with a torn carpet, incorrectly assembled center console, and the clutch master cylinder was not bled so it was barely drivable. Jaime said I needed a new clutch master cylinder for the cost of $350, which I didn't. They just didn't know how to bleed the clutch. I limped the truck home and bled it myself. Later, when I asked about the torn carpet, he just stared at me and wouldn't answer... weird.
Within a few hundred miles, I could barely get the truck into gear because the shifter was "stuck". I took it to Jaime thinking something was wrong with the parts. He blew me off and said it was due to the cheap parts I asked him to put in that he declined to warranty (I've restored and rebuilt over 40 engines, 30 motorcycles, six cars, and maintained all of my vehicles for over 500,000 miles... and never had "cheap parts" go bad immediately). Jaime wanted to charge me $700 to open the transmission back up, so I declined.
I started to pull the transmission myself over the weekend and found a plastic bushing in the top of the shifter assembly was shattered, the gasket had not been replaced, and red transmission fluid was leaking all over my transmission and the bottom of my truck. That bushing is an OBVIOUS inspection part that had to be removed when they replaced the clutch and should have been identified and replaced by Auto City Repair. The gasket is also a replacement item that ABSOLUTELY must be replaced, and the bushing stares you in the face when you look at the gasket... which they obviously didn't inspect. Now I have broken pieces of plastic floating around in my transmission and the grinding noises I've been hearing are of my incorrectly lined up shifting mechanism causing damage in my transmission, as well as the plastic pieces being ground up. I'm going to replace the plastic bushing myself and hope the grinding noises go away.
I'm deeply disappointed with Auto City Repair. They performed crap work on my truck and I almost sold the truck for parts because of their poor performance. I'm SOOOOO glad I know how to work on vehicles myself, or I really would have lost badly due to their sloppiness. I hope they aren't pulling this type of shoddy work on others.
Edit: I had the clutch replaced on 5/24/16 at My Mechanic on Folsom Street and the mechanic there said the pilot bearing was destroyed. A pilot bearing doesn't fail within three months and a few thousand miles, even with "cheap" O'Reilly parts, unless it is damaged during installations. All other parts of the clutch were in fine shape except for the clutch disk which was badly worn because the failed pilot bearing kept applying force on it when it shouldn't have.
The throwout bearing and slave cylinder were perfectly fine, which is what Jaime was blaming as "cheap parts causing problems". The exact same master cylinder is still being used and is not faulty, and the clutch is SUPER easy to push now. It appears that Auto City Repair didn't install the original clutch correctly since it was ridiculously hard to push the pedal. I am so not impressed with Auto City Repair.

The owner and his business partner are true professionals. They understand the valuable are of listening! Aside from a genuine friendliness they are absolutely competent auto repair professionals. I've had two cars repaired done here, both out of my own pocket. They were flexible on the timing and had very reasonable prices. When you're dealing with the trauma of having to get your car repaired you can't do better than this location and these people!

I've been a customer of Jaime Lara (owner) for over 20 years. He always delivers as promised and whatever the issue was, my vehicle was completed to my satisfactory. He and his staff are always friendly and professional. I've referred my family who are just as happy with the work they've had done.
Jaime is honest and will tell you if something is worth fixing or not. I recently had some body work done on my truck after getting hit by a drunk driver. He really went out of his way to deal with my insurance and the car rental agency so I wouldn't have to.

I needed a scratch repaired on my 1989 Volkswagen Vanagon. As much as Vanagons have a devoted fan base, they aren't always easy to find people to work on them. After calling a few places, I got a referral for Jaime and it sounded promising. I called him late Friday afternoon and went there on the next Monday morning. The repair was cheap, done well and quickly. And Jaime was just great.

My car's back rear bumper was slightly out of alignment so it needed to be reset. Another shop would have charged me 4-5 times as much. Arturo and his trusty crew had me in and out in about an hour for far less than I expected to pay. They even removed a few friction marks from the back right AND the back left bumpers. Great job. Body shops frighten me. I've had some bad experiences. These guys came through and did a good job. Better yet, they re-did a small part of the job and did some extra work just to make me happy when most other shops would have said it was beyond the damage done in the accident (someone hit me) - which it was. They didn't get paid any extra by the insurance company for the extra effort to make me happy. That's rare.

I'm alway a little weary when it comes to having someone work on my car. I tend to think I'm always about to get screwed. Not the case here. I had a sense of comfort and ease with the whole process. My car was rear-ended by someone who was driving for work and was self-insured. What a nightmare! I had a difficult time finding anyone who was willing to work with me to fix my car.

Let me preface this by saying I've taken my '96 crown vic to many shops in my 3 years of owning it, and not a single other shop, including dealerships, have been as comprehensive and quick as Auto City Repair. I was referred to them by Roberto's Auto Rescue and showed up with my check engine light on after much repair the day before. I rushed in explaining how I was already missing an entire day of classes being stranded in the city and how desperate I was to get the car running and back to Sonoma County. I was afraid and naturally assumed that it would take a few hours just to come to a diagnosis and a whole day to fix the issue, just like every other dealership and shop experience. However while I conveniently had lunch at a cafe nearby, Jaime personally worked on my car. Within half an hour he had a diagnosis and had the car running perfectly in less than two hours. I am also a very annoying customer when it comes to mechanics because I am curious as to what every single parts name and function and explanations as to what is going on. Jaime put up with all my incessant questions and even diagnosed a problem I had been asking about for years. I am so lucky and blessed to have found this shop in the city and plan on driving down to the city in the future to receive more work from them. Not only were accommodating when it came to time, they also only charged a low diagnostics price for all their work. If you have the option, I highly recommend Auto City Repair.
Short review: Got a diagnosis of a misfiring cylinder after I had two coolant hoses blow in a span of two days and had fixed wiring within two hours of bringing my car into the shop. Amazing customer service & one of the most accommodating shops I've ever had the pleasure of bringing my car into.

Jaime L. was recommended to me from my friends at Will's Auto Body for a difficult repair of an electronic problem on our 1989 Lincoln - 3 other places could not successfully diagnose and repair the windshield wipers which had failed, but Jaime (is a genius by the way, in my humble opinion) he managed to find the failed almost microscopic part in the relay approx. size of 2 pin heads - a primitive type of computer circuit - rebuild and re-solder part on and it works like a champ now - thank you Jaime, also Jaime R. aka JR and Artruro - well done and worth every penny - highest recommendation. Note: I saw a Tesla in for collision repair, all types of cars - one stop shop.

Jaime is such a great guy and true professional.
He has now resolved two separate issues that came up just months apart. First he fixed my starter, same day, at a very competitive price. As he explained he buys local, and though he can't offer the lowest pricing in town, he offers top quality parts, made here, for very reasonable rates. Next he fixed a weird exhaust, sputtering issue, getting us on the road the very same day.

They had my car for close to a week trying to figure out what was wrong and why it wouldn't start.. I commute so I was so annoyed and irritated and everyday they couldn't figure it out made me think of an extra zero that was going to be added to my bill, and every star I wanted to take off the inevitable Yelp review. Turns out the new key I had made didn't have the special factory chip that allowed the car to start (some fancy security device). He only charged me $100 (1hour worth of labor).
He could have been a bad man and took advantage of my ignorance like I always assume these mechanic types to, but he didn't and earns 5 stars and a repeat customer.
Also, he is very nice... not a grumpy guy.

Jaime totally took care of me! He went above and beyond in the repair, even throwing in a new grill and an oil change for me at no cost. The shop waived my insurance deductible so I didn't have to pay out of pocket for the repairs. Jaime even hooked me up with a rental car at the insurance company rate!

I seriously never thought I would write a review for an auto body shop but...yeah this place is awesome. My Infiniti service advisor recommended them for some work I needed. Since my car is a lease I wanted to make sure it was done right! Arturo was great to work with and I felt very taken care of. Trustworthy people who I absolutely recommend to anyone. For over twenty years and through several locations, my entire family has taken our cars to Auto City Repair. Jaime and Will are exceptional mechanics with very reasonable prices. Whether we need mechanical or body work done, they take care of absolutely everything.

Jaime is the best. He's the first auto repair shop guy (and he's the owner) that I've ever trusted. He takes the time and the knowledge to help you and explains everything in a way I can understand. Also, when I brought my car in, both times, he immediately wanted to drive it with me so I could explain exactly what I was noticing. This is so logical but with all my crappy cars, has never happened. They're honest which is great but they billed me too much labor for a very easy job. Its their business and they can bill as much as they want but $110 labor for a new battery terminal is kind of ridiculous. I'm happy they didn't try cheating and sell me a new starter or anything but still a new terminal is like a 10 minute job even if I did it myself. I feel a little used.

Just before Christmas, I bought a "new" used car on craigslist: a super clean 2001 British Racing Green Mazda Miata with 37,000 miles. It is a very fun car, especially when driving with the top down on winding coastal roads. But when I got it, it had dings and a nasty dent in the door.
My mechanic recommended Auto City Repair and Body Works, and I'm glad he did. Jaime Lara and his team are terrific! They did an outstanding job taking out the dings and dents and matching the beautiful British racing green. And they were cheerful, warm and friendly, too.
What's more, they worked late the week of Dec. 20, so I could give the car to my wife on Christmas Eve. Wow!
I recommend Jaime Lara and Auto City Repair wholeheartedly.

DO NOT take your car to this place. The owner/manager is the foulest, crudest, creepiest guy you can imagine. I heard him screaming at an unhappy customer in the FOULEST TERMS as I waited to take my car in (and trust me, I'm no prude). I backed out and left -- he didn't even come up to my car and ask what the problem was and if he could help me -- and as I was waiting on the sidewalk for the cars to pass so that I could swing onto Folsom, someone from the neighborhood walked by. They said "Don't do business with this place." I asked why and they said they are the most DISHONEST, environmentally-fouling business in San Francisco!! So -- verbally fouling and environmentally fouling. A HORRIBLE BUSINESS -- BE WARNED!!!

Auto City is the cure...
After the stereotypical poor to barely fair experiences at car repair shops I was pretty disillusioned with the entire service industry (surprise, surprise).
When my partner recommended that we take our old Mitsubishi to Auto City because the "guys seem nice", I scoffed at her naivet out loud. As it turned out she was right and I was wrong (not really too surprising...happens occasionally :D).
Over time, the owner Jaime's honest, timely and straightforward treatment cured me of my malaise resulting from repair shops. Beyond fixing our car in the first incident he's been there with good prices, honest and unselfish advice in other cases as well.
For instance, when our friend's front end of her Honda was mangled in a fender-bender at a later time, Jaime suggested various options with a price range that allowed her to get it fixed up perfectly in accordance to the age of the car.
Since then, he's giving me candid (and free) advice for seperating gems from lemons among the aged beaters I've been looking to when trying to a used vehicle. And all this service with integrity and a smile.

I have a tempermental Jeep that dies at inconvenient times. When it wouldnt start a few weeks ago, I took it to auto city repair for the first time. I was nervous about going to a new mechanic , and was afraid that I would get ripped off becasue I am clueless about the inner workings of my car. (and jhad ust paid $900 two weeks before to a different mechanic who said he fixed the problem but didnt) Jaime was very honest about saying that he wasnt 100% sure, but thought he knew what the problem was. (and he was right) He did the repairs (including fixing what the previous mechanic had left broken) and my car runs great. It was a very reasonable bill, the work was fast, communication was very good (calling me with estimate before starting work, etc) I felt like this garage was honest and reputable. Id use them again.

I guess this guys are blind or something... I used to live in the neighborhood and have been to Jaime's a few times, for smaller jobs, but never quite got an impression he was being ver honest with me. Early this week, I rear-ended someone on that drastic arco station on fell and divis. My radiator was gone, and being a couple blocks away, I took my car there. He said it's be $400 to change the radiator (upon further investigation, 3 other shops quoted me between $240 and $340, - quite a discrepancy, huh?). Then he called and said that was damage to the body and it's be $650, now, b/c ha needed to pull the engine back out. Asking him whats his hour rate - $120 - I decided to take it to my friend's shop who charges $80, for the hour. The originally $650, estimated repair was well done by Robert at Auto tech 1 in 1/2 a day for $278!!! Less than half. Of course, even so I told Jaime to Not work on the car after the quote went up, he still charged me $80, to get it out of his shop. what a rip-off!!! I guess he's your typical mechanic and if you have money to blow...
