I've found the repair shop for my older model car (2005)! It isn't easy to find a mechanic who is completely trustworthy, honest, works with you, and is there when you need them. I recently had that heart stopping moment of "oops, the car won't start." One phone call, took the car in that evening, the next day, the car is repaired and I'm on my way. Pricing is very good, honest, and everything is explained right up front.
Jack is awesome and straightforward to work with. it is very clear that they take great pride in their work. You reap the rewards of that. Thank you again, Jack!

T'was the day after Christmas when I was desperately looking for a mechanic to check out my car because it suddenly in need of some TLC. Thankfully, based on the others' reviews I stopped into J's. Pleasantly surprised by their thoroughness and willingness to quickly take a look. They seemed to be pretty up front with the cost of the parts that they shopped around for. Overall, I'm a new fan of J's!
The owner wasn't in the day I had my car serviced. Apparently, he takes great pride in the work that they do.

This guy Jack and his business is total garbage. The first time I went to his shop I only got an oil change and had no problem. He only charged me for the oil change and didn't try to sell me any "repairs". I told my wife I had a good experience there plus he has a pretty good Yelp rating so she decided to take her car there for an oil change as well. Instead of being honest and fair, he hustled her. He told her that her car required synthetic oil, which it doesn't, and charged her $80 instead of $40. She didn't know the difference and took him on his word so of course she paid it. Additionally, he scared her into thinking her car battery was bad so of course, not knowing better, she paid for a new battery. *This is one of his regular tricks, so beware. At the time, I gave him the benefit of doubt and thought maybe the battery was bad and maybe her car does take synthetic. I wasn't certain that it didn't. I learned later that he lied. Since my first experience wasn't bad, I went to his shop again the next time I needed a repair. I had my rear rotors and brakes replaced and my passenger window motor fixed. When I picked up my car he informed me that I have 2 different types of lug nuts on my wheels. HE LIED. I've polished my rims dozens of times and am 100% certain all the lug nuts were identical manufacturer bolts. What certainly must have happened is he lost two of them and didn't take responsibility for it. I'm an easy going person so again I shrugged that off thinking it wasn't a big deal. (The lug nuts will later come back to bite me.) He also informed me that MY BATTERY WAS BAD AND I NEEDED A NEW ONE!! He said my battery had died twice while he had it. LIES!! It never had died on me previously and in fact hasn't ever since. This is when I became certain that this guy is crooked. I told him I can buy and replace my own battery if needed. He tried to imply I will find myself stranded if I didn't buy one from him. NO THANKS JACK! Additionally, the window motor that I paid him to fix did in fact work again.. for about a month. A month later it stopped working again. Finally, flash forward to today. Today I ran over something and got a flat. No problem, I'll simply put my spare on and get to a tire shop. NOPE!! GUESS AGAIN!! I can't get the 2 different sizes lug nuts off with the one sized tire iron I have. Thanks Jack! A year after deciding to never go to his shop again he manages to screw me over again!

I want to update this with five stars because after the guys installed new belts in the car they were screeching, they replaced them for free and were honest about the cause of the screeching and didn't do unnecessary maintenance.

I recently drove all the way to chatsworth from mar vista to get my oil changed with my regular mechanic after the experience I had at jack's automotive, where I had my oil changed a few months back.
my husband brought his car in for some work and, being new in the neighborhood, I asked him to get a quote for an oil change for my car. after giving jack the year, make and model of my car, jack quoted my husband $40 for an oil change.
when I got my oil changed a few days later, not only did he tell me I needed a new battery, which I, of course, told him to go ahead and replace, he also charged me $79.99 for my oil change. double what he quoted my husband... because I didn't ask jack himself how much it would be (my mistake) and just assumed the price he gave my husband would be the price I'd pay, I didn't say anything BUT I WILL NEVER GIVE THEM ANOTHER PENNY!!!
if you're a Caucasian male, you'll probably get great service there. WOMEN BEWARE. if I could give them zero stars, I totally would.

I had my car diagnostic preformed and jack told me my catalytic converter was bad, he then threatened to report my vehicle if I didn't get it replaced by HIM!.I told him I would let him replace another part but that I wanted a second opinion on my catalytic converter., he finally agreed.
Before I went to pick up my car from his shop I called to see what I would owe, I arrived at the shop with a check made out. He then told me my repair was an extra $100 dollars on top of what I was quoted and went so far as to call me a liar for ever saying I was quoted otherwise..!
As for my catalytic converter.. I've had it checked numerous times and its not bad, I even passed a smog test recently.
I think they offer some perk if you write a positive review, probably why there are so many.

To be clear, no perks offered for a good Yelp review, in fact they never even ask for one.
I had a mechanic in Hollywood that I loved but he no longer works on private cars (fleet guy that would do privates on the side). One of my best friends suggested I try Jack (his family has been using him for years. I took my car in on a Tuesday with what I thought was a bad power steering unit. Jack took the time to look over (and under) the car to try to figure out what was up. It turned out my rack was worn and leaking and that at least one strut was bad.
I expected to have the car there for a week but by Tuesday afternoon he called to tell me it was finished.
The only reason that I didn't give a full 5 stars is that he had to replace the sway bar (part of a clunking sound I had told him about but didn't know what was causing it). Strictly from a business standpoint, I wish he had called me before doing the work. It wasn't much more and I would have happily authorized it anyways.
As far as price goes, the work wasn't cheap (cars never are) but I think it was fair and within the price range that I had in my head going into this. I think his pricing was plenty fair and the work he did seems to have solved all of my cars issues.

I went to Jack's on Saturday with a problem with my 2005 Honda Accord. I came on the recommendation of a friend of mine. He felt Jack was honest and helpful. Please know that I do not trust mechanics. I have had too many bad experiences.
Anyway, Jack diagnosed the problem and the total cost? $45. That's all. Jack could have jacked me, but he didn't. Have I found a new mechanic? Too soon to say that, but Jack came through for me and I appreciate it.

Jack put the wrong fluids in my car and now I am without transportation.
Jack took 6 weeks to replace a radiator and do minor engine work.
He had given a great price, but upon pick up said the engine was "running rough" yet he had warrantied it for a year. Then, 500 miles later (two weeks), the engine light was on and half the engine inoperable.
The vehicle was brought back in, he held it for over a week, and did not remedy the situation. He claimed he didn't touch the engine, even though on paper it said he did. He told me that whatever it was, was not due to his work. He told me to get a second opinion and gave me no paper work upon my second pickup.
The Professionals at the dealership pointed out that Jack put the wrong fluids in the car and that it was harmful to its working operations. Even I know to look up what to put into something, its not hard, its called research and verification.
Jack is not a professional. He may seem to be a nice flexible man with a great deal, but he obviously is not a good mechanic. Believe what others say. But if you want quality spend the extra dollar for your transportation is your livelihood.

I have been going to Jack for years. I bought my Prius new from a dealer, and stupidly bought the extended service. Yes, I was a sucker that was excited with his first new car purchase and wanted it to be treated with excellent care by the people who manufactured the car. Utter stupidity and ridiculously overpriced.
One day, I read an article in Los Angeles magazine, (
), that had Jack listed as the best independent Prius mechanic in the city. My extended service was just about to end and I was sick of getting gouged by Toyota so I decided to give Jack a try. And it's been great.
He runs a diagnostic and only does what the car needs. I have almost a 130k on it and after his last service it's been running better than ever. I've lived in Los Angeles all of my life, so been driving for over two decades. Mostly beater cars, so I've spent a lot of time bouncing around from mechanic to mechanic. Never have I been so happy with a mechanic as I am with Jack. The work is always done on time, he uses quality materials, and I'm not getting ripped off. Any time he can save me some cash, a part I need is still under warranty or knows about a factory recall, he is quick to jump on it.
There's a reason his lot is always full of cars, and the shop has contracts with various businesses that drive a lot, and simply it's that he's a straight shooting mechanic that delivers EVERY time.

Today I called a mechanic because the check engine light came on. The mechanic I called did not service my type of car so he referred me to Jack. I called, he saw me an hour later and did a quick diagnostic. Turned out to be nothing but he didn't charge me, was really nice and I would definitely go back to him for anything I might need in the future. You can tell he's a good, honest mechanic.

Jack is the only place to go if you enjoy honesty, integrity, superior work ethic and a job well done. He has worked with me and my various car problems for about a year now, and I'm a fan for life! Jack was recommended to me by my daughter's paternal GREAT-GRANDMA who still drives her 1981 Toyota around, a car he has kept up for her forever! Believe me, I've gone to other places just to feel stupid and broke - he is the best automotive repair guy I have ever met and if I had to travel many miles (which I luckily do not) just to go to his shop, I would - his service is well worth a drive! I have been coming to Jack for 8 years now. He saw me often with my old impala. I just got a new car so I may not see him as often now :( He is truly an amazing mechanic!!! He is something you don't often find in a mechanic......honest!!! He even took the time to check out my new car and congratulate me on finally getting rid of the other car. He isn't about screwing anyone out of their money. He almost refused to do anything more to my old car because he didn't want me wasting money to delay the inevitable. Seriously one of the few good men left in LA ;)

The minute the tow truck dropped me off at Jack's, I knew I was in good hands. This is the best auto shop I have ever been to. All of the staff were so friendly! Jack is an honest, hard-working guy who you can sense really cares. He was able to fix my car in a matter of hours, when he could have easily kept it overnight and fixed it at his convenience. If you have old or newer cars, Jack's is the place to go. He is straightforward, understanding, and doesn't talk down to women. His prices are reasonable for the work, and when the first repair that I had him do (replace head gasket) cost over $1000, he gave me a "VIP" card for 15% off that work and all future work.
Just be prepared that he is very busy all the time and might not be able to get to your car immediately. So if you can leave your car there for a few days, then that is better.

We have been taking our cars to Jack for years. First time was because he was he was nearby. But once we found out he was honest, sharp, came in on budget, and on time we were customers for life. We even kept going when he moved his location. He doesn't try to upsell or tack on services that we dont need.
Seems to shoot straight. Doesnt talk down to me or my wife and takes the time to answer our questions. We feel lucky to have found one of the fee knowledgeable and honest mechanics left out there.

I love this place. I recently was burned at another mechanic and Jack has fixed all of their mistakes. He's really honest and will give you the cheap option and the right option (if you ask).
December 23rd, my car started stalling. I brought it in and they fixed it by the next day. Jack wasn't there so they didn't know what to charge me, so they let me take my car and told me to follow up with Jack the next week. It was funny because I had to track him down to pay him, but I was so happy I was able to visit my family for christmas.

Jack's is great ! Today I only needed one tire. First I called 2 different places that specialize in just tires. The first one I told the tire had a nail, now it has a patch, I would like to get a new tire, he said "why you wanna get a new tire?!, the patch is good." I said..." ok thanks never mind". I called the next tire place, it took a while for them to answer their phone, the guy said "you only want one tire?..ok let me put you on hold" 5 minutes later I hung up. I called Jacks, they answered their phone, I wasn't put on hold. The guy I spoke to was nice, normal, and exactly what one would expect/hope for, when calling a business !!

Jack is complacent. He does not stand by his word, or warranty. He put the wrong fluids in my car and caused damage. He said he fixed my engine, even though it "started rough." I paid him $3000 to fix my car to what he said it needed, it took him 6 weeks for what the dealership would have taken them 2 days. The car didn't drive a thousand miles more and now I have an anchor. My families livelihood has now been effected and Jack won't stand by his work unless I pay him $1500 more and the cost may go up. The car worked fine before taking it to him. The dealership reviewed his work and in their professional opinion they felt he may have damaged the engine and that his work was inadequate and harmful to proper functioning. Jack has 30 years of experience in being a swindler in my opinion, and plays the "nice guy" not an "honorable man" in my opinion.

I brought my 65 Dodge Dart because it stopped running. After about 5 days i get a call saying they "fixed" it before they called to tell me the problem. I pick the car up and find out it was only a resistor block went bad (common problem on older cars). Should be a maximum of $20 for parts. Easiest thing in the world to replace too. Literally 2 wires and 2 screws on the easily accessible top of the firewall. Somehow this ended up costing $150. Pure insanity. If he would have told me what was wrong before he took the liberty of "fixing" I would have did it myself, save some cash, and paid for the diagnostic. Anyways, the next day I drive it to work and it stops running again. So I called to complain that they didn't fix my car hoping for some accountability on their part, but there was none. They actually expected me to pay for a tow back to his shop so they could start over. Haha, fat chance! I will never bring any of my vehicles back to this shop and i recommend everyone else to the same.
