In the decades I have owned a car I've never had such honest, thorough, reasonable, and super friendly, courteous service from an autobody shop -- or pretty much any shop.
I went there as a result of the reviews and every five-star review is completely on target. Bob was extraordinarily helpful and worked wonderfully with my insurance company. The work itself was absolutely fantastic. All the dings and fender bumps and bends and key scratches -- all disappeared and the car looks brand new.
I just recommended Boyd's to a friend yesterday who got dented while parked at BART. I can't recommend them more highly.
Price, satisfaction...these guys are first-rate. They even sent me home with a small vial of matched paint for any future scratches. Hopefully, I don't need any repair work in the future but there is no doubt where I'll go when and if I do.

This is review is for the customer service. Boyd's was unable to help me so I am not sure how good they are at body work.
I called from my house about 10 minutes away after seeing 4.5 stars on yelp. I asked if I could come in for an estimate in 10 minutes and was told yes. I get in my car and find my way to Boyd's. Parking is tough but not impossible. I had to park a block away on Vallejo. When I get to the office I said that I had called about getting an estimate. The grumpy old man behind the desk(pretty sure it was same guy on the phone) said they were very busy and could not give me a written estimate but could tell me verbally. I said I needed written for insurance sake and he said he couldn't help me. What good is a body shop that won't give a written estimate? It would have been fine if they had said no on the phone but I really don't appreciate Boyd's wasting my time.

Great service from honest people. Fantastic value.
We went to Boyd's because it had great reviews.
We needed a new battery and they ran a free diagnostic of our 10-year-old car. We assumed we'd get a new car in the next few years (it was old and the trunk stopped working) but Boyds explained they could do some foundational maintenance and fix the trunk for under 1k to keep it running for many more. Now we have a car that'll last us for the next 5 years and it only cost us 1k! Definitely making these guys our go to mechanics. Trustworthy, smart bunch of people.

Just completed a very positive experience at Boyd's.
The estimate was less than half of one I got at another shop and the workmanship and service were excellent.
I intend to return for some cosmetic work on my old bumpers soon.
Highly recommended for price, quality and service!!!!

I had a very positive experience at Boyd's. Bob went above and beyond for me and the work was done flawlessly, among other things he fixed - free of charge- some minor scratches that weren't even part of the damage that brought me to the shop. So my car actually looks better now than it did before the accident.

I came here BC of the great reviews on Yelp. The first few times I came here was to get a head light repaired & I had to come back twice to get it fixed correctly. Not a big issue considering he only charged me like 20$ which I thought was great. It was
Now my car started having some weird issues around November 2015, funny sounds, dashboard lights turning on, etc. I took it in & I was told the timing belt, water pump & belt tensioner needed to be replaced. Fun fact, this same exact shop had fixed these exact same issues in 2014. A job like this is not someting that needs to be done annually (unless you are putting insane mileage on your car, which I don't) & costs a lot of money, about 837.00$ (according to the receipt I'm looking at as I type this) from this shop so the fact that they wanted me to do this again is absurd in my opinion.
The actual issues turned out to be my alternator, which is a whole other mess which I cover in my other mechanic reviews.
I would advise everyone to never come here as this shop is totally untrustworthy.

This shop is great! Bob gave me a great deal and did a great job on repairing my 2013 Chevy Malibu. I hated the way it looked after my accident, but when I went to pick it up it was like it never happened. Rides good as new and everything. Totally recommend this shop if you need any repairs.

Well Cali it was a pleasure and I've relocated back to New Orleans. However my vehicle was taken one last time to Boyds body shop for fine tuning and oil change. I truly miss Mr. Bob who became more of a mentor and I give him credit for the longevity of my vehicles by preventive maintenance which also save me a lot of money by not having to purchase a new luxury vehicle.
This is a honest shop.. I read a couple reviews where bad customer service was provided and I ENSURE YOU, the customer was probably upset that their vehicle even needed repairs.
Story: vi was picking up my car and over heard a lady in a very dated, poorly maintain vehicle and wanted to have her car inspected before driving it to LA. When Me. Bob supplied her with what she asked for and that was a total vehicle inspection. She got upset saying her car shouldn't need that much work.
I am a car enthusiast and I looked at her car thinking "I'm surprised your car made it here sounding the way it did and want to drive that to LA"???
After she left I told Mr. Bob I would have asked her to leave. And complimented him on customer service and you can not please everyone but only provide great service when requested. The lady left upset.. I only hoped she didn't try to drive to LA.
Please do not pay attention to the couple of rude reviews. Look how others and myself feel about this shop. I have not found another in Louisiana like Boyds.

tl;dr Bad customer service, shoddy work, absurd pricing. Do not recommend.
***
I had high hopes for this shop, because my partner had such a great experience with them. He warned me that the owner was surly and that their prices were high, but assured me that the service would outweigh those drawbacks.
I took my car in for a couple of minor issues, and to get a smashed window replaced. I dropped it off on a Saturday, and waited almost a week before I heard anything. They quoted me $600 for the window (something about getting glass from the dealer? I don't even know) and more than $1K for the other issues. Foolishly, I authorized them to fix the window, but baulked at the cost to fix the other problems.
Several days later, I got a call letting me know that the window was fixed and the car was ready to pick up. They had fixed the other issue without having to spend the $1K+ and were only going to charge me the examination fee. So, that was nice. Although, I wish they had explored cheaper options before telling me it was going to cost a metric butt ton of money. Especially because it was very clear that the owner had originally misdiagnosed the problem.
When I picked up my car, the owner made a point to repeatedly explain that he had fixed the other issue, saving me thousands of dollars (although not really, because what he originally told me was wrong, really wasn't). He was also very emphatic about having vacuumed out the broken glass from my window (and for $600, I should hope so).
As I drove off, I noticed that my window wouldn't close all the way and there was still broken glass all over my car. So, I returned the next day to get the window looked at. And as expected, the owner was surly, but more surprisingly, he refused to even entertain the idea of fixing the issue with the window - an issue that I didn't have before bringing the car to him. He was dismissive and uncommunicative, and kept reminding me how many thousands he'd saved me by putting a little oil in my seat's tracks.
Feeling frustrated and defeated, I talked to my partner about the experience. He was shocked, because his experience had been so different. The owner had been a little curmudgeonly but he was at least helpful and respectful. We were both disheartened by the egregious disparity in service that I received. I've heard about mechanics treating women differently, but this was the first time I had truly experienced it. I mean, it could have had nothing to do with my gender. He could have had issues with my personality. Although, I went out of my way to offset his cantankerous demeanor by being friendly and polite. And regardless, it serves business owners to treat their customers fairly and respectfully. So, bad form on his part, no matter his motivations.
The following weekend, my partner returned with me to the shop to follow-up about getting the window fixed. Fun fact, the owner was much more receptive to helping my boyfriend than he was to helping me. They argued about whether fixing the window was possible and what it would cost to do so. (Hint: the mechanic expected it to cost hundreds, if not thousands). Then, one of the other shop mechanics came by and tweaked one small thing. Just like that, the window rolled up.
The owner's assertion that the window frame was damaged beyond affordable repair was almost plausible until his associate fixed the issue immediately at no cost to us (the second star in this review is for that guy. I like him). Additionally, I just had the same window smashed and fixed at a different shop for a third of the price, and have had no issues rolling the window up. Oh, and it took the other shop two hours to fix the window and clean out all the broken glass from my car, highlighting how truly terrible my experience with Boyd's had been.

When I migrated to the East Bay after 15 years in the city (and 10 years with the same mechanic), I worried that I would never find someone to care for my beloved '98 Cherokee Classic. Turns out I wasted a lot of time and energy worrying. Why? Because of Bob at Boyd's Body & Auto Repair.
Bob is communicative, reachable, professional, courteous, and above all, honest. And the shop does affordable, high-quality work. My Jeep, which I thought was on its last legs, has been running great since Bob's crew took care of the must-fixes. I'll be back again soon, because the things that were should-fixes six months ago are probably must-fixes now! Thanks, Bob!

Body work: I took my car to several places for a quote, and Boyd's was the most competitive pricing.
Auto repair: My car needed some major repairs, as well as a basic tune up. They were very transparent about the costs of parts and labor, and even took the time to email me a written estimate since I was traveling and couldn't talk by phone in detail. The prices were very reasonable.
They're very accessible by phone and email, and I really appreciated that they made it so easy to get estimates for the body and auto repair work.

I brought my Cadillac CTS to Boyd's. Not many mechanics outside the overpriced stealerships will service Caddies but Boyd's did. Had a list of repairs needed - all done with within the time frame and reasonable pricing. Now, I'm a happy customer because my car is running like a champ and smooth. It was a shot in the dark with mechanics and I came out with quality repair work and touch up paint as a bonus. Thank you Boyd's.

I would not recommend this place.
They stole items out of my car. When I went back to ask about the stolen items the owner pointed to a sign that says they're not responsible. I could understand that if I left my car overnight but it was only there for a couple of hours which means one of their employees stole from me. Plus my brakes are still squeaking! Never going here again.

Boyd's is now my go-to for repairs of any kind. My experience was so excellent, the license plate frame they gave me is staying on.
Bob and his team gave me a truly great deal on a wide array of repairs - repainted roof, replaced bumpers, belts and hood hinges, diagnosed and fixed electrical problems, they took it out to get the alignment adjusted, and more.
They were patient when I had to change up my schedule. They stuck to their quotes when the work was harder than expected. They detailed the car afterward. They were nice the entire time.
Thank you, Bob.

I take my car here all the time. As a woman, I was tired of being manipulated and ripped off by people who knew more than I do about cars.
They are so good and fast with repairs, and they never overcharge.
Last time I took our car in and got a $400 repair quote. I asked, "Would you recommend doing this on a car so old?" and he said, "Nope. Just switch to mid-grade gas and your car will last a few more years without the repair."
Highly conscientious, awesome shop!

I am so impressed with this shop. I've had 2 experiences with them in the past 3 months. My partner had her car repaired there after a pretty big accident. I highly recommend Boyd's Auto Body & Repair. They are professional, courteous and their work is excellent.
I first went there five years ago for body work when someone hit my side mirror. They replaced it and painted it to match my paint exactly. Then they used the paint to touch up a couple of other spots on my car and washed/detailed/vacuumed out my car- all complimentary.
When I later needed mechanical repairs, I decided to try them just because they were close to my office. That was five years ago and I am still a customer. Bob, the owner, is a kind and honest man- exactly what one looks for in a mechanic! His prices are very reasonable, the shop is spotless, they stand behind their work and they will even drive you to work and pick you up when your car is ready. A+++

Boyd's is awesome. Bob, the main guy, is very honest and consistent. He's like an old school business man. If he gives me a quick verbal quote for work I need done, he always honors his word, even if it's several months before I return to have the work done. He's been willing to work with me in times of financial hardship. I've been to Boyd's twice for body work, and he's totally gone the extra mile, even fixing some nicks and scratches I didn't ask him to, on the house. The repairs are top-notch and have my car looking good as new.
The other thing I want to say is, nowadays an honest mechanic is worth his weight in gold. He doesn't fix what ain't broke, doesn't say it's broke if it ain't, and always gives competitive pricing and excellent customer service. I'm a customer for life, as long as I live in the SF Bay Area!
Rock on, Boyd's!

I went to this shop due to high reviews on Yelp and it was a fail. They overcharged me 30% when I found out after talking to my mechanic friends. The owner was rude on the phone and he didn't let me know when the vehicle was ready. I had to call him and he gave me an attitude as if he already gave me the time. The only time his face turned into a smile when I paid him a hefty sum. Beware of longer than usual repair time and overcharging. Heck, some of the reviews mentioned he was a bargain. BS!

It's so hard to find a place to bring your car in for repair but when someone you know recommends a place highly, you just have to try it.
Since 4 or 5 years now we have been bringing our car here because the costumer service has been great. Mr. Bob the owner personalizes the service by talking to you about your car and what he can do. The team is very professional and we trust him with all of our cars. We just brought one of our car in because a motorcyclist hit my wife and they fixed the car very swiftly and beautifully.

My wife and I have both taken our cars here for a number of years, both for body work as well as maintenance and repairs. We've always had a good experience with good customer service, reasonable prices and solid work. A couple of times over the years there have been minor things that still needed addressing after picking up the car, and they were always taken care of right away, without any additional charge. This was my first and last visit to Boyd's. I was doing a little shopping at Bay Street and a kind stranger in the garage told me that one of my head lights was out. I was in an instant gratification kind of mood and looked up the nearest shop. So I found Boyd's! So close and convenient. Great. I call them up and they said that yes, if I came there now, they would fix my headlight on the spot. FANTASTIC! When I arrived, the gentleman was very nice, but demanded that I pay cash and was charging me a pretty hefty price. At this point I should have left, but the headlight was almost within reach and it was a Saturday afternoon.. so I started searching through my wallet for cash. As I searched, he suggested I go to the bank and come back. Really? Ugh, no thanks. So I took a nose dive into the crevices of my car on the hunt for crumpled up dollars and change. He then told me to go to an ATM. I continued to search and scrounged up enough. He seemed almost annoyed that I found the money and told me to go get a coffee while they fixed it, since it would take at least 30 minutes. I asked if I could just wait in the waiting room, figuring it wouldn't take that long. He seemed to like me even less than before. Sure enough, it only took a few minutes. When he handed over the keys, he told me my car needed a good detailing and cleaning. Oh, thanks..
So I needed a headlight, and I got one. But the rest, was not so great.

I cannot say enough nice things about Boyd's. When my car broke down during a move they fixed it the same day, put up with my anxious phone calls, were super-professional and clear in their communication, and gave me a cookie when I picked up my car. I stopped by here to get a quote for some body work I needed. They were very busy, but someone agreed to come out and quickly looked at the damage to my vehicle. He said he would give me a call with a quote ***and then I _never_ heard from them***!
Look, I understand if you're at capacity and need to turn away business, but if that's the case, then just **be honest** and say so, or tell me that "the wait time is X". Do NOT tell me you're going to give me a quote, and then just throw away the memo to do so, paying no regard to the possibility that I have shit to do as well, and that I may have been waiting on your quote to make a decision (I was). That is inconsiderate and unprofessional. Shame on you, Boyd's.

Needed a bit of quick service close to home, so I dropped it by Boyd's. They gave me an accurate estimate of both time and money, and we were good to go. During the work, they called to check in, which I appreciate. Decided instead of picking the car up to get them to work on my brakes, too. All done that day. They detailed the car, too. Better still, Bob stayed open late just so that I could retrieve my car after work on a Friday. Icing on the cake: he had an extra loaf of fresh bread that he'd gotten for an employee that he gave me (they had forgotten to take it with them for the weekend).
Now my car looks good and smells like fresh bread. Pretty great.

If I could give these folks ten stars, I would. Last month while driving, my car was struck by an errant motorist and badly damaged. It was towed to nearby Boyd's Body Shop. I checked for reviews on the shop and am so glad I decided to have it repaired there. Bob was genuinely concerned about me and my car. He was friendly, truthful and his crew did excellent work. My car had almost $7,500 of damage, but now looks, drives and runs just like it did before the accident. Bob worked closely with my insurance claims handler and she was very pleased with him. He even found and fixed a problem unrelated to my accident and did not charge me for that. My car was also spanking clean, inside and out, when I came to pick it up. So I give this shop huge praise for their professional work, customer relations and business ethics.

These guys are a joke. They had my car way longer then they said they would. The paint does not match nor does the bumper align like it did before. They also said they could replace a rim that was a stock rim on my Jeep and they have yet to do it. They actually blamed it on me even though they said they could find it and do all the work. This place is worst body shop I have ever been too. I've been going to Boyd's for about 5 years, and they are a great set of guys that I always trust with my car! Bob is great and always friendly and takes the time to explain things. Mechanics aren't always perfect, but Bob stands behind his work and always does the right thing. Also, I feel his rates are very reasonable. He always tries to help find a solution that is cost appropriate for my car (and age of my car) and budget. He definitely helped me out when I was in a pinch on some major body work that needed to be done and I was borderline as to if it was worth saving the care. In the end, it looked better than before!

I don't know cars, and frequently have to rely on the more auto-savvy people in my life to guide me through anything I put mine through. My brakes had been grinding for weeks, and I came into Boyd's simply because it was closest to my work and was highly rated.
The sparknotes version: the owner gave me a honest estimate, quick turn around, and a sea-level DEEP discount. I later confirmed with more knowing folk that I indeed got a crazy good deal for the work done.
This is a trustworthy place - not a sentiment many single women would harbor with any auto repair shop. Listen to the reviews, take your metal-framed baby to Boyd's.

I have been going to them ever since I moved into the area. They are extremely personal, informative honest and to the point. They are also quick and affordable. Every person that I have personally recommended to Boyd's was always happy.
If for some reason they can not help you they will send you in the right direction. If you have a specific budget, they will work to find you the best parts that you can afford.
I went on a long trip with my car and I needed some tires. They offered to let me use their cosco card in order to purchase tires and also called a used tire store down the street who had exactly what I needed.
If you do business with Boyd's you will be a happy customer.

I took my car in for repairs. Although I am satisfied with the repairs, the level of customer service here is severely lacking.
Throughout this entire process, I was never given any updates. All communication had to be initiated by myself. I had to call the body shop on multiple occasions to find out:
- if the adjuster for the insurance company had arrived, inspected my car, approved the estimate, and given the go-ahead to perform repairs
- the estimated day I could pick up my car
- on the day of the pick up, I had to call again and confirm that the car was indeed ready and there were no delays.
To top it all off, I picked my vehicle up on a Saturday. Because the rental location was closed on weekends, Bob (the owner) offered to let me leave the rental at the body shop until Monday when it could be picked up. He asked me to leave a voicemail with Enterprise (which I did) and said he would call them on Monday to pick up the vehicle.
Come Monday, I never receive phone calls from either Boyd's or Enterprise. I call Enterprise and they tell me that Bob never informed them that a car was ready to be picked up. I asked Enterprise to please retrieve the car.
On Tuesday, I call Enterprise and was told that Bob told them the car was no longer at the shop. Thus begins a frantic phone calling session to figure out exactly where the rental car was. Bob thinks the car was already picked up and then he notices the keys are still there. Turns out that it was still at Boyd's. If I had not initiated the phone calls, Enterprise would continue to think that the car was "missing" and I would be none the wiser because no one thinks its important to call the customer.
In short, I feel that the level of communication here sucks! You are never informed of anything that is happening during the repair process and have to call them everytime. Bob didn't even have my phone number handy and he thinks it would "bother" me to receive a phone call about repairs. I don't think its a bother! You can email or leave voicemail. Not every single day but when important milestones happen like the adjuster came, estimate is ok'd, you can pick up your car now!

Hello Yelper's! I thought yelp would not let me leave another well deserved review for Boyd's Body Shop. I would like to share my two new latest update regarding Boyd's Body Shop
March 2013
1) My near perfect immaculate G35 (thanks to the 100% total car care of Boyd's Shop) End of March) I was able to supply my G35 to my elder parents in New Orleans after my elderly father expressed wanting to enjoy the thrill of a late model car. I shipped the car and he stated how the Infiniti Dealership in New Orleans all came out to take a look at this California Car which looked / ran so smoothly. (ssshhh, my secret was Boyd's Body Shop)
October 2013
2) Since my G35 is in New Orleans (wagging it's tail with grandpa) I have been blessed with a convertible BMW 330 CI and dealership was ready to align service appointments. However, I was able to purchase my latest car by SAVING $$$$$ with Mr. Bob and promptly replied I have a WELL TRUSTED SHOP I bring my vehicles for repair. **Recently, Boyd's made my '04 black on black bimmer look newer than ever with a wet-sand wax / buff that showed every worth of my car!!!
Thanks Boyd's Body Shop and I hope my review can give someone who has been bruised by other harsh, unprofessional repair facilities! Please, please, from one car enthusiast to the average person looking for a ONE STOP SHOP .. GO TO BOYD's Body Shop!
Best !!

I've been having my car serviced at Boyd's for the last two years so decided to definitely go with Boyd's to prepare my car for a cross country road trip this summer. As has always been the case, working with Bob has been nothing but professional. He is transparent about the various costs involved in the service (parts, labor, etc) and timely in providing estimates and service. I highly recommend Boyd's, especially for those of us who live in West North Oakland / Emeryville. Convenient, thorough, and trustworthy!

Have been going to Boyd's to see Bob - the main man - for several years now, have two BMWs (now three) that have been successfully taken care of by them in exceptional manner.
Had an '04 BMW X3 that had a mystery water problem, when it rained and it was parked in my driveway, I always found a pool of water in the driver's side back seat floor - why? This happened for years as it was so occasional I'd forget about it - finally took it to Boyd's because of the good reviews and most of all - my office is one block away.
Bob is always on-point with his analysis and process.
In this case, he said to let him have the car to take it apart to figure out what's going on - I considered this sensible and better than an eventual rusted-out floor pan. Simple but not simple situation - he found a small hole in a plastic liner inside the door that keeps water out. Bam! I remembered right around this area I let Weatherford BMW do a paint-less repair to the door and have seen videos where they push the dent out from the inside or use other methods. They must have punctured this water barrier so everytime it rained, water went down the window, through the door on to the carpet. Bob showed me how this happened with a hose, then replaced the plastic liner and all was good. Real detective stuff.
Have a 2001 BMW 325i that is older, but since my wife drives very infrequently, has only 70,000 miles on it (around 6,000 miles a year!). So the classic dilemma of do we continue to maintain an older car because it has low miles, or replace it? The body was the worst part, a hole had been punched into the front bumper, the rear driver side door had been backed into enough to warp it slightly so the door still opened and closed but just didn't feel right. And various other little nicks, etc.
In a few days time, Bob had it all straightened out, warped door, hole in the bumper, all the nicks, etc. The car runs like a train, costs us nothing and looks great. We've been told, this model 3-series, the E46 is one of the best ever made. I believe it because we regularly get 25 miles to the gallon with wonderful steering feel and suspension grip. Anywhere we go in this thing we end up feel refreshed and relaxed.
Then I replaced my 2004 X3 with a 2013 and it's there now, being tended to after a minor rear end hit. The person who hit me was with Mercury, I'm with Amica. The Mercury agent asked if I wanted them to take care of the repair or go through Amica. Not knowing what that meant, I immediately answered Amica because I know them better. They sent out an adjuster and later on a check for the repair. Bob took one look at it and told me they were going to make me pay my deductible of $1,000 - that Amica's repair check was $1,000 shy of what the fix will take. He said to not cash the Amica check but call Mercury and tell them to take care of the claim. That day I did call Mercury and within an hour they called me back saying they'll take care of everything, just take it to Boyd and they'll send an adjuster out.
Bob and Boyd does good work on my cars plus helps me save money, can't ask for much more.

I went in to Boyd's because my car was overheating. They began by telling me that my diagnostics test would be $95! I accepted and left the shop at 10:30am because they told me they would call with an update on what the problem was. 4pm rolled around and I hadn't heard from them. I gave them a call and they told me that I will need to replace my radiator, water pump and thermostat for $800 (including labor) I felt this wasn't right and got a second opinion from Montclair Auto Tech. Turns out none of those things needed to be replaced, and it was two leaks in my radiator hoses. That is a quick fix and much much less than $800.
I felt taken advantage of here, and the customer service was so poor they could not even talk to me about what was really wrong with my car. Something to note is that he told me, "after all the repairs, it might be fixed, we would need to check again"
They just didn't seem very reliable or sure to what the problem was.

My second dealing with Bob (owner) and the repair shop. Consistency, thoroughness and attention to detail are what comes to mind. Oh, and convenience...Bob even returned my rental car for me. Car was detailed and returned to a point that it looked brand new! Hopefully you won't need your car repaired, but if you do...Boyd's is well worth your time.

I used Boyd's for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was extremely impressed with the service I received. I came to Bob in a tough situation as my windshield wipers stopped working during a down pour on the Bay Bridge. Boyd's was the first mechanic I could get too and thankfully so. I have a Saturn and the parts are hard to find but Bob was able to locate the appropriate part for my car, which wasn't even local. He helped me save a lot of money and even gave me a Cal Alumni discount...GO BEARS.! Even though I live in San Francisco, I would go to Boyd's again for auto help.

My Infiniti G35 stalled getting onto the Bay Bridge in the City. I got towed to Emeryville and the tow truck driver recommended Boyd's. I met Bob and got a good vibe and left the car with him (I live in Lake Oroville). They discovered a bad valve gasket which had caused the problem and made all the necessary repairs. The great thing was that they expedited the process and I had my car back in two days!!!! Their price was very reasonable, the car came back clean and shiny. It runs great. And they have a 6 month warranty on their work. You won't be sorry!

So i will start by saying how I came across Boyd body shop. In 2010 I got into an accident and the tow company sent by AAA brought my car here and that's how I discovered this place. At that time my insurance wrote off the car and then off course they offered me to buy the car back from them. I consulted with Bob in regards to buying it from the insurance company and having it fixed. This guy gave me an honest opinion and even showed me how the body frame had broken into 2. He told me that he could fix and repair the car but it was not worth it. He told me that once fixed it would be risky driving it in the since that incase I was in another accident it would not really not protect me, and since my husband and I value safety then we decided to let it go. I mean this guy could have taken our money and fixed the car but he cares and values each customer that comes to his shop and he would rather give you an honest opinion than lie. Honestly I think this guy is great and does a great job.Anyway since then I have been bringing my car here and I would not take my car anywhere else including my husband.
This is what we love about this place.
I love the fact that he is not pricey like other places.
They can drop you off or pick you up I love Ramon, he is one of bob's assistants and does most of the pick ups and drop off and very knowledgeable guy.
He is great with people, kind patient and very respectful.
As for bob we love him because he is very hardworking, respectful and patient. There are so many times he had to wait for me after hours so that I could pick up my car.
This guy is super hardworking. Most places you won't see the owners or even the managers check on cars as they are being fixed. He will make sure the job is well done and above the standard. Those complaining that he didn't tell you what the issues were. First of all people have to understand that a car is like a human body. You know what's bothering you but you don't know the exact illness and even after being diagnosed some other problems might arise. So yes he might say this is the problem and later on discover something else or it might not be the problem. Anyone who works on cars will tell you the same thing and I would rather have someone who really tells me the truth than someone who fixes the initial problem and refuses to tell me the other repairs needed.
Yes sometimes he might slack behind on returning phone calls but as far as I know it occurred to me once for the 5 years I have been bringing my car here. If he forgets to call you, you will just have to call him. And like I mentioned this guy also works on those cars and he is super busy making sure that those cars are being fixed properly. Anyway I am not defending this guy and yes he is not perfect and slacks behind answering phone calls but his services are exceptional and the fact that he uses high end parts at a reasonable price is exceptional. Even the oils he will put in your car are not cheap.
Also Bob respects his employees. He reminds me of my father. You want an employee to respect your job and work hard then you need to respect them and show them how to work hard and you will never find this guy sited behind the desk.
Also he fixed the body of a truck that my husband rear ended and the owner was so impressed with the work. The guy didn't want to bring the car to him cause he really didn't know him but he also gave him a chance and the work was done above standards.
One issue that I might complain is waiting area is really cold and not inviting but there is a coffee shop that's around the corner that one can go and wait there. Anyway just because the waiting area isn't that inviting, it has never stopped me from bringing my cars here for the last 4.5 years. Unfortunately will be moving soon and I will miss this place. I hope I will find another place out there like this place.
Thank you Bob for going above and beyond to make sure our cars run good and always making sure we're taken care of. And thank you for your hard work.
I would bring my car back here if we ever happen to come back to California.

After a small fender bender on the 580/80 before the bay bridge, the two truck driver who picked me up recommended Boyd's. After a careful check, I saw what great reviews they had- and was throughly impressed. It was mid afternoon on a Saturday, and the owner was there rearranging cars to fit as many in the gate as he could. That right there was a good sign to me.
Because of part challenges, my car took a little longer than expected to finish, but the work was perfect and my car ran as good as new after. They even washed my car and offered to wax it if I came back before the end of summer. Of course I didn't go back, I felt too bad imposing, but the offer stood. Even though my dad had called and been grumpy with them, everyone was still polite and kind with me. I understood, I've done enough work on cars to know it wasn't their fault!
Anyways, they called regularly to give me updates, worked very well with my AAA insurance, and did an AMAZING job fixing my baby. I recommend Boyd's to all my friends and family in the area, and have finally gotten around to Yelping about it. Great job, Guys!! I hope I never have to see you again, because accidents suck, but if I ever need to, I know exactly where to go! 7 months later and my car is still perfect. Thank you so much for doing an awesome job!!

I can't recommend Boyd's highly enough. Taking your car in for services is by nature a pretty stressful affair, but not for me now that I know about Boyd's! Bob, the owner, and his team are always incredibly professional. They listen and never talk down to me, explaining what needs to be done (and what can sometimes wait). They are very fair, and have without fail done their job beyond expectation. Boyd's is also in my neighborhood, and I appreciate the care in which they keep the shop--carefully considering their residential neighbors.

Boyd's brought my car back from the dead! I'm sooo happy I decided to fix rather than scrap my car!!
I have an old and oh-so-beloved 95 Mitsubishi Expo. There is still nothing else quite like this very cool mini wagon/van thing on the market (3rd row of seats, and 30 mpg highway). It's taken me to Burning Man, Tahoe and San Diego time and again! So every time something goes wrong with it, I think 'well this is it old friend' and I frantically start looking for a new/used car, then am so disappointed with everything that's out there (including new cars!) and I fix it one more time (new transmission last year - totally worth it to keep my car going!)
Anyhoo - my car's engine started making some weird noises, and my usual mechanic, XYZ didn't seem at all interested in fixing it. They would charge $900 just to open up the engine and take a look - for starters. So I said to my car, "Well, this may be it old friend. Guess I'll drive you til you die, and I'll buy a new car."
One night shortly thereafter, my car stopped cold on Adeline (thank you to all the Oaklanders who stopped to ask if I needed help and even offered to wait with me until AAA came!) The tow truck driver thought it was a timing belt (he was right) and recommended Boyd's. I'm glad he did!
Bob offered me options, and let me think about it for several days and ultimately we agreed he would replace the timing belt in order to check the engine compression/performance. If the engine was bad, he'd stop there and only charge me a fraction of the job for labor. When he got the timing belt on, he called me to let me know the engine compression was good; he gave me a list of the things I needed to fix for safety, and the things I could put off fixing until later. So he fixed the most urgent things at an incredibly reasonable price - and I'm so happy my old friend is back on the road! Thanks Bob and Boyd's!!

There's a reason why there are always a zillion cars at Boyd's shop on Powell.
Would you rather eat at the restaurant that's empty or the one next door that has a line out the door but has a wait? Boyd's is the latter.
Great service and great price. Yes, he is busy, so you might have to wait a bit. And it might take an extra day or two to get your car back - but I think its worth it.
They have done work for us from fixing body work, head gasket and breaks. He won't overcharge and will not suggest that you fix things that don't need repair or maintenance.
I have been going to Boyd's Body Shop to service my car for over 6 year and I always have a good experience when dealing with Bob (the owner) and his staff.
It is also very convenient for us since the shop is located near us in the Berkeley area.
All of our cars have been taken care of and they usually give us a courtesy detailing and an occasional ride to where we need to be.
I'm very satisfied with their service and I recommend this shop to anybody who is looking around for a mechanic in the East Bay.
Thanks for all the good work, Bob.

Shaaaady business.
They did a diagnostic on the car because it was running kinda sketch. They told us a million things were shot and gave a quote of $1600 to fix. For a 1998 car, so not worth it. So we asked what the bare minimum was to get it fixed. They said the noise the car was making was the wheel bearings. Did my research, found out how much wheel bearings and seals cost, and asked how much to just fix what was really wrong with it. They said it would cost $500 and I was furious because I knew that that quote was too high. They were misquoting the cost of wheel bearings/seals saying they were $70 for one (we later got two for $75 from Autozone)! I said so and the guy on the phone argued with me, saying, "What do you know about cars? You learned this on the internet? Well, let me tell you the internet is not real life!"
Then after we threatened to take the car out of their care for a second opinion all of a sudden they said they would only charge $650 to fix the entire car. Wait a second, OK, how did you get that figure from an original quote of $1600? Something is not right here. We forked out $100 of diagnostic fees just to get the car out of their care.
Well, finally we took the car somewhere else. This guy said what was really wrong was just the wheel bearings and axle. Parts + labor we were able to fix the car and get it running again for $375. $375!!! Our biggest regret is taking it to Boyd's in the first place and sinking the original $100. What a scam.

Since finding this jewell of a mechanic in Emeryville, my car has never gone anywhere else for service. The owner, Bob, is friendly, knowledgeable, polite, and fair. I've been extremely satisfied with all the services I've gotten there, from body work to oil changes to new brakes. Awesome shop!
And speaking as a woman who's had a lot of mechanics take advantage of me by overcharging or trying to sell me services I don't need, I feel very confident that I will be given a fair price and treated respectfully at Boyd's.

My Toyota RAV4 was in a fender-bender. Boyd's was in a convenient location and had great reviews, so I gave it a shot. Getting a quote was easy (I just showed up), the price was fair, the work quality was high, and they even buffed out a few other scratches and detailed the car free of charge. I'm impressed. Hopefully the car never needs body work again, but if it does, I'm definitely taking it to Boyd's!

A true gem of the bay area.
I had a small collision with my car and since the local Ford dealer doesn't do body work I took it to Boyd's. This place is fantastic. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and polite, but most importantly they do excellent work at extremely fair prices. After a few weeks I had my car back and you would never know there was ever damage to it. The lines between the panels were straight, the paint job was flawless, and they even washed and detailed the inside better than any of the car wash spots in the area.
I will definitely go back if I ever have troubles with my vehicle and recommend it to anybody who has automotive troubles.

Living in San Francisco and working in Emeryville is kind of a pain, especially when it comes to running errands during normal business hours. But Boyd's has got the whole car-repair thing under control, and I'm very grateful for that. If you're in the same situation I am, I highly suggest Boyd's.
I don't know much about cars, and I've been fortunate enough to find auto-body shops in the past that haven't treated me like I'm an idiot (read: girl); Boyd's is no different. On my most recent trip there, I needed a significant amount of work done. Bob and his team kept my car over a long weekend, made more changes than I asked for, explained why they were all necessary, and didn't charge me extra for the labor, since the upgrades kind of happened as they went along. I'm grateful that they cared enough to keep my car running smoothly and didn't rip off a poor ignoramus like myself. And they even gave me a ride to work so I didn't have to make the sketchy Powell Street trek by myself. My Toyota Camry, Black Beauty, salutes you.

This was my second time at Boyd's and I couldn't recommend a better mechanic for your car.
My first time here (a few years ago) I thought I had a transmission problem and was expecting to shell out a lot of money. Fortunately, it was just an issue with my distributer which cost A LOT LESS than I thought it was going to. They were so darn nice and even washed and detailed my car for me.
Last week I had to get air for my tire and ended up at Big-O as it was on my way home from work. They took a look at my car because I mentioned that the steering wheel was shaking. The three belts I needed cost $99.07 without labor. I also needed a brake lens and was quoted $106.79. The labor was quoted at $134.00!
I called my trusty mechanic (Boyds obviously) and requested some quotes on parts. The three belts I needed cost $18.00 each ($54.00) and the brake lens was $89.00.
A few other items:
Big O One Stop Auto Parts (Oakland)
Battery hold down $8.99 $2.50
Rear brake light $6.99 $1.71
If I could give more stars I would. This shop is always busy and obviously runs a great business. I never see any marketing ads and assume they get a lot of repeat business and word of mouth referrals.
Kudos for the wash and detail. I appreciate that you called to let me know the car was ready today as promised!

This is an amazing place. Bob is a very honest person unlike the other auto shops you come across. I had to do cosmetic changes to my car. Bob did a free check up on top of that. Since I needed the car within a week, Bob was kind enough to quicken the entire process. I highly recommend Bob especially for people who do not have much of an idea about automobiles because he is very honest.

I had such great service here. They were very speedy, well priced, nice, and they didn't try to force me to get anything I didn't need.
I needed my battery changed and they recommended where I could get it the cheapest, and they had my car fixed and ready to go in only an hour on a Saturday. I also thought I needed an oil change, but it turns out I didn't so they saved me money by not giving me anything unnecessary (being a single girl that doens't know much about cars, that is hard to find in an auto body shop)!
They also gave me a free estimate on how much it would cost to repaint my bumper, which was pretty scratched up from a fender bender a couple months ago. Plus they do washing/detailing as well.
I highly recommend this place, and I will definitely go back to them for any car troubles I have. :)

Go see Bob at Boyd's Body & Auto Repair Shop. You won't regret it.
Had my 10+ year old Nissan Maxima randomly shutting down while driving due to what Bob discovered was a "Cam Shaft Sensor" issue. After the diagnostic, he recommended trying a more cost effective solution first, which was flushing out the engine with an additive and changing the oil, because the alternative would be pricier (something I'd be hesitant to do if too pricey, given it's a somewhat older vehicle). So we did the engine flush but the issue came back unfortunately. I stressed to Bob that it was a real safety issue so he asked me to come back in and told me he could replace the parts completely for a much better price than usual. I could tell he sincerely wanted to help me out, especially knowing I had already paid for the diagnostic, and then the oil change and engine flush procedures. So he got the parts in, performed the work, and it was a two-day turnaround. It's been a few weeks now and all seems to be running smoothly!
I even got a follow-up call from Bob checking in to make sure everything was fine. Thanks Bob and team! Would definitely come back to see you guys again...but not too soon I hope!

Boyd's is a terrific local shop where Bob really makes an effort to deliver great value to his customers and bends over backwards to make sure you get a good value on your service. I've been going there for years and don't find other reviews credible that he'd pressure someone into having unnecessary work done. Completely out of character.
What is in character is that they consistently find the cheapest way to get work done for their clients even if it means more work for them and less markup on parts. I recently had a 12 year old car repaired whose driver seat frame had cracked. Bob found a used seat and transferred my existing upholstery to the new padding and frame and charged for about half he labor time. And then he delivered the car to me with a complete detailing at no charge.
It's just the latest in nice extra-mile steps he's gone to for our family, and our friends who use him say the same. It's a great shop with a trustworthy owner. Highly recommended.

My car didn't start by jumping so I assumed that the Started needed to be replaced. I called a tow truck to take me to Big O since they perform this type of work. The Tow truck driver recommended Boyd's so I thought I'd take the recommendation.
First thing that seemed weird is that Bob verbally quoted the parts and labor for a starter replacement without looking anything up and I walked out of the office without a written anything.
Does $477.80 seem unresonable to have a starter replaced. I confirmed the repair is out of range using
after the fact.
Bob recommended timing belt and brakes checked. Weird recommending that the brakes should be checked since the brakes were replaced less than two years ago. Don't know anything about the timeing belt.
Lession learned. I'll do my homework before going to a garage to have my car serviced and will ask for a price before having the car towed.
After five months the starter in the car went bad. Bob first attributed the starter going bad because the car needed a tuneup. This was not true; the car had a tune up prior to a smog. Bob had me sign blank paper work prior to performing warranty repair. When I came back the paper work had been filled out with charges. I had no recourse since I'd already signed the blank paper work. I would not have allowed Bob to perform the work if I had known there were going to be charges. I would have taken to a different mechanic.

Last month my wife smashed the hell outof her car. She had it towed to Bob's and within a week's time they had it looking better than it did before the accident. My car (GM) cut off. Just stopped running on San Pablo Ave. With only 13,000 miles on the odometer. Because of low milage they suggested that I check the warranty and take it to the dealer. Bob let me leave it there until it could be towed to San Leandro. Didn't charge for storage and wished me good luck. They are good people and honest.

Recently I had a collision and painted fender and door of my Toyota RAV4 in Boyd's. The job is well done: color fits well, no sign of collision anymore. They even touch painted minor scratches on other parts of my car for free, so now they look much better. Highly recommended.

i had a very bad experience with this people!!! had a problem on my audi A6!!!before i take the car there i did show them pictures about the problem and they said they could fixed in 2 days, but after the car arrived, they spend 1 week to tell me they couldn't fix the problem and my option was sell the car to a junk yard or install a new motor on the car costing $7000!!! resuming i had to paid them $800 dollars to remove my car on parts from his garage and pay a towing truck to bring my car on a real mechanic!!!!also my car is just fine now after $900 dollars cost for a new mechanic to fix the problem and get the car again in one piece!!!! this people didn't respect me and my car...

Honest, polite, accommodating, affordable, and in a good location! I was able to bring my car in during the morning without an appointment and got my car back that afternoon. I appreciate the fact that they were honest enough to tell me that I only needed my front brake pads replaced and that the rear could wait a few months. I also appreciate that they took my 10% off coupon even though I forgot to present it up front. I will definitely be coming back when the time comes!

Had my car towed here. Although unable to help because the car was under warranty. The staff was so helpful & friendly. The second tow truck came to take the car to the dealership. They allowed us to borrow tools to hook the car. They went above & beyond. So, when I am looking for a body shop... No doubt, I would go here!!

I definitely would not recommend this place. I brought in my car for a repair my regular mechanic could not do. They told me the cost was no more than $350 as if it was a good price. They also said the work will take overnight.
After they started the work, I called two other places to check the price. Each place told me the cost was $150 at most and the work would only take two hours.
Also, just like one of the other reviewers below, when I picked up my car they tried to tell me I needed to check my timing belt. I had already gotten my timing belt done by my regular mechanic. So, it definitely seems like there's something shady going on.

These guys were great considering the trouble I put them through. I had just arrived from FL when my gears locked up and there was a lot of back and forth between the mechanic that had just put in a clutch in FL before I left. They found the problem that the mechanic in FL should have noticed and helped me get the parts cheaper than the previous mechanic. The situation really sucked for me because I basically had to get the same job done over again but they made it as painless as possible and even showed me all the guts of my car that were involved, so I could get a good understanding of the problem.
Thank's Boyd's!

If your car dies within a stone's throw of this place and you can coast into the garage, maybe come here. But you may get ripped off. My fiance dropped her car off here, they said, "no problem, we'll fix your clutch and even detail your car." She gets hercar back and it stalls in neutral, the stereo code is not set, and it is dirtier than when we dropped it off. She calls back and the manager doesn't care, he puts her on hold for another estimate to take even more of our money. Don't go here. I certainly never will again. They may do great body work, but I wouldn't trust them to fix a mousetrap.

The Toyota shop sent me here for some body work. I stopped in to inquire on prices/quality and was impressed with Bob. He knew his stuff, he knew my lexus well, and he made some recommendations on how to handle insurance.
I brought my car in for body work on both bumpers, and side doors. He did an excellent job, and threw in fixing the antenna, taking a nail out of a tire, did a full interior cleaning and outer clean and wax. My car looks brand new! I also had a little bumper bender on my rent a car, that he discreetly fixed FOR FREE!.
I have not had this type of hospitality/service since I left the midwest in the 80's. There was even a bowl of cherries on the counter!
I highlly recommend Boyd's and will return for future work on my brakes.

Same day service - axle repair took only a few hours in fact. Very transparent, gave me the cost estimate before I left, and showed me the problem parts when I returned to pick up my car a few hours later. Bob did a wonderful job on my Mercedes which was nearly totaled in a collision. My insurance company wasn't even sure it was fixable but Bob convinced them that he could do it and took care of everything. I've had work done on my Civic '99 the past couple years at Boyd's. They replaced my rusty exhaust, fixed a bump in the body, and most recently welded a crack in the exhaust manifold and replaced a bad oxygen sensor which made the engine light go on.
They usually get the job done on the same day or day after, even though they appear quite busy. Parts are not over priced. Bob (the owner) generally goes out of his way to give you a fair deal.

Kudos to Bob and the staff at Boyd's. I was in the Bay Area with my family and it was late afternoon on the day before we were ready to head home. A smash and grab thief busted my side window. After calling the shops that AAA recommended, who couldn't help us for two days, I found Boyd's through Yelp.
Just at closing time, Bob personally put on some temp crash-wrap, called to get a new window, and promised us we'd be out by 1:00 the next day. After a harrowing night of worrying that my car would be stolen or the interior jacked, I brought my car in the next morning. It turned out that there was a lot more glass in the door panel than anticipated and the Toyota design made it hard to get all out. Bob told me the labor was much more than he'd quoted, but he would stick to the price we'd agreed on. I thought this was more than fair since he could've charged me pretty much anything at that point and I would've paid it to get my family home. I don't know if someone else's car took a little longer to finish but by 12:54 we were on the road
In talking to him, Bob told me sincerely that he thought the key to a good business is being honest and fair with your customers. After our experience the day before, it preserved my positive impression of the Bay Area. Boyd's is a fantastic shop and I think Bob is the type of auto shop owner we all wish served our area.

Having good connections is the most reliable way to spend your money, especially when it comes to Auto Repair. I once had a nasty confrontation with a bunch of young hooligans which brought my total repair costs pretty high. After being infuriated, and wanting to kill someone at this point, my landlord recommended me this place for business. I was skeptical thinking that they would rip my wallet in half, but they made it reasonable and actually worked with my schedule and repair costs.
However they were professional, prompt, and cleaned and detailed my car inside and out. Customer Satisfaction seemed to be on top of their list and to me that's what stands out in businesses such as these. They were able to go above and beyond my expectations for being a specialized service provider in the automotive industry.
So if you need a good place to get something done for your car, for a reasonable price and outstanding customer service than get it done here. Boyd's you're a wonderful asset to the Bay Area, I would hope to find something similar in Southern California, that matches your services, 5 stars all the Way!

My car was acting up and being new to the bay area I was not sure where to go. After checking Yelp I went straight to Boyd's. When I got there I met Bob, who was friendly and helpful. I live on Beaudry Street just a few houses down from Boyd's. I've been taking my cars to Bob & his crew for eleven years now, and I feel extremely lucky to live in such close proximity to his shop. I honestly can't tell you how many times I've had work done by these guys.
The service is always warm & friendly, and their work has never been anything less than excellent. I used to call around to other shops after they'd given me their diagnosis and cost estimate but I stopped bothering several years ago: They've never failed to either match or beat everyone else's prices & they've always gone the extra mile (unintentional automotive pun) with me, service-wise. I used to drive a '95 GMC pickup, and Bob knew that thing inside & out. I'd be casually walking past the shop & Bob would come out to say hi - and also to tell me that he'd noticed my truck had been sounding a bit funny to him the last few times I'd driven by and what he thought might be causing it to sound like that. Saved my ass (not to mention my truck & my pocketbook) more than a few times that way. I see how well he gets on with all of the other folks in the 'hood and can only assume that I'm not the only one 'round here who gets such gracious & friendly service.
I've read other posts here that complain of price-gouging and other costly & opportunistic repair work done by Boyd's. I can't refute their experience, not having shared it, but I can tell you that I know these guys well and was surprised to read about anything like that. Although I have been surprised at times with unexpected reports/quotes on additional necessary repairs, I've always been satisfied with their pricing & honesty after investigating each matter thoroughly on my own.
It's true that Boyd's sometimes doesn't follow up on calling you back when they say that they will, but I've found that just as often they call before I'd expected them to to say that the job's already done and my car's ready to be picked up. It's also true that sometimes they completely underestimate the time they'll need to get the job done. Dunno what to say about that. No one's perfect, I guess, and they sure are always juggling a lot of work over there. I've never seen it anything but absolutely bursting-at-the-seams busy. However, Bob has always been ready and willing to pause whatever else he's doing & address my problems with the kind of friendly attentiveness that you just don't find most anywhere else. He's squeezed me in more times than I can count & addressed all of my repair & maintenance issues w/ my pocketbook in mind.
I honestly couldn't recommend this shop any higher. Give 'em a holler. They'll treat you right.

I am a woman, and in this case it does matter because I am far away from my male relatives who help me with car stuff....and I know nothing about cars.
Well, these guys you can trust! The owner of the business is so nice, very respectful, and VERY fair. He explains everything to you and does not make you feel like an idiot for being concerned/asking questions/educating yourself.
His prices are so reasonable...as I am calling all my male relatives to check on everything as I go along. Even his staff who work at the front desk are the same sort of respectful guys...amazing!
I have had a few things done there over the years: window replaced after a break in, fix car door hinges, fix broken motor of window.
Seriously! Trust this business.....give them business....because they are serving up some customer service and honesty that are hard to find these days! Thanks Boyds!!!

When you find a good shop, you stick with it. Boyd's is that place. Knowledgeable, friendly, and honest. When I got in an accident, Bob haggled with the insurance adjuster in order to save my car (insurance wanted to total it). He's the man! My 2006 Honda Civic Si has never been to a mechanic outside of a Honda Dealer. So when my car broke down with a transmission problem. I was very hesitant to bring my car to the dealer because I knew I will have to pay an arm and leg. I know taking the car outside of its normal "Doctor" would be a risk. The towing driver suggested that I bring my car to Boyd's Body shop. Based on the cob webs in my wallet, I said ok. Bob looked at my car and replaced the clutch and the transmission. Bob kept my worries to a minimum by keeping me informed on the status of my car. I have had other vehicles that required a rebuilt/remanfu transmission and the cost was expensive and I was expecting for it to cost way more. Especially with an Si transmission going out. The car was done and WOW the cost was really affordable. The car was detailed and it took the car home but with anxious moments because I was thinking cheap bill = problems?
Well it has been a month since I had the car in Bob's shop. I did not review the car shop right away because I wanted to make sure I put in the proper review. Bob advised me to drive carefully the first 100 miles. And that I did. It now has been 600 miles since and I am back to my normal driving habbits and have not had any problems. The car is back to normal and me and my wallet are so happy that the towing driver recommended Boyd's Body & Auto Repair Shop. I plan to bring my car to Boyd's for regular tune-ups.
Thank you Bob and your team for getting my car back to normal. The few days without it was tough but was worth the wait.

Boyd's is pretty good.
Funny story, I got rear-ended one morning and brought my car over to Boyd's. I parked in the red zone in front of the shop. Bob hopped in and turned the key to bring it into the shop.
It wouldn't start. The alternator had ceased working and the battery was dead (likely unrelated to the accident).
So he charged me up and gave me the estimate.
Honestly I don't know a hubcap from a radiator, but I guess the estimate was reasonable.
Later I went to bring my car over and it wouldn't start again. Bob sent one of his henchmen out with a charger to pick it up. He also threw in a free detail of my car when he finished repairing it. Good service.
There are some problems with the electrical system now (some of the lights are flashing and the fan is stuck on even when I turn it off).
I'll take it back too see what's up. If they can work it out I'll bump this place up to 5 stars.

Boyd's is great! And, Bob! What a nice man. My alternator went out and I was really in pinch. Even though they were extremely busy and closing at 2 pm, this was on a Saturday and I showed up at 12:30 pm, he was kind enough to squeeze me in and got the job done quickly and efficiently. I found Boyd's through Yelp and now I know why so many people return here again and again. He found a few minor things, that I suspected needed to be done, (i.e. tune-up, etc) that can be done in future and was not pushy at all. Is nice to have a good auto repair that will find things that need to be done w/out being pushy. I have lived away from the area and am back now and am happy to know there is a car repair place that I can trust that will look out for my car because there is a lot of traffic here and would hate to be stuck because of a breakdown. Also, the convenience of his shop to where I live is perfect. And there is a playground and park right behind but, Also, the Doyle Street Cafe (I think that's the name) is around the corner and a great place to eat while waiting if you have no way to go home while you wait. On the weekdays, the free EmeryGoRound Shuttle can take you to Bay Street to shop or the movies, Public Market or other great places or even home in Emeryville. Love this little town!

We have been going to Boyd's Body and Auto Repair shop for six years and have had outstanding service both for body work and for tune-ups and maintenance of our Acura TL. The service there goes beyond anything I have seen elsewhere and I have lived in Toronto, Chicago, and Pittsburgh among other locations and have horrific stories to tell about experiences there, and in Oakland as well. Dealers and garages have ripped me off year after year. Finally a neighbor on Beaudry street recommended Bob Ghaziani and Boyd's Body Shop for repairs and maintenance and we have been taking our cars there since 1995. All my maintenance work including timing belts, tires, fluid levels and overall engine monitoring has been done to high standards and much better than the dealer.
When I say Boyd's work is outstanding I can give an example. Recently my eight year old Acura had a variety of dings from the usual Oakland "leave no note left behind demolition derby" car owner and after a week my own car has emerged from his shop looking almost as if it were new and at a reasonable cost. . Over the years I have found Bob to be honest, prompt, to answer questions quickly and always to be available. If I had six stars to award I would give them to him for his skills and those of his staff and above all for his reliability and integrity.

This is the most horrible shop I have ever been to. I went there for a bumper replacement, side skirts and rear valence installation. We agreed on a price upfront they promised a quality work and they said it will be ready in 3 days; I went back after three days just to find my car torn apart with a lot of dust over it. and they started complaining that it is a lot of work trying to get me to pay more than what we agreed on, when I refused to pay more they parked the car on the side and would only work on it if there are no cars around to work on. i got the car back after 15 days and did not do all the work that we agreed on, just the front bumper and they only gave me 90 days warranty!!. Now 6 months after the paint is bubbling and chipping off the bumper (the manager Bob told me that they use the best paint on the market and that's why they charge more than the other shops around) and found out that they did not prep nor prime the bumper they just spray painted it, which I paid10 hours of labor for. I am very disgusted with this place. bottom line when you go there they will charge 8 hours for a work that would only take 4 hours, and they still manage to do a crappy job in two hours but you still pay for 8 hours of labor, don't go there unless you have a simple or easy work witch I think most of the positive reviews are for. Customer service is shit and they don't live up their words.

my car was towed in on memorial day and luckily enough Boyd's was open. spoke to Bob, exchanged details on was on my way. next day Bob calls to tell me my timing belt snapped. not too surprised as I knew it was overdue, but I was genuinely anxious as I know this repair could get expensive. Bob told me we couldn't find the extent of the damage until we installed a new belt & water pump (a $600 repair) and even then we wouldn't know if the engine was salvageable.
Bob went ahead and installed the new belt & pump and luckily enough, my engine was fine. Completed the rest of the timing belt package (seals, camshaft, belt tensioner etc.) to the tune of $850.
now here is what is impressive. Bob could have gotten me for a lot more. All he had to do was say that the head needed to be rebuilt and that a valve was bent and I would've had to fork over another $500 at least. but being an honest guy, he told me that the damage wasn't all that bad. prior to my car breaking down, i got a quote for the timing belt to be replaced from my regular mechanic. the quote came out to $850 - $950. so even though my car already broke down and required a diagnosis, I still ended up paying the same if not less than I would have if I just brought my car in for maintenance on time.
Bob is an honest guy and definably goes the distance to keep a client happy. now my car runs and sounds like when I first got her.
Thanks Bob!

Thanks Bob and Ray for the extra care and clarity in your services and reasonable price. The situation was: I didn't pass my smog test at a "test only" place and came here. I should have come here in the first place, but those "test only" instructions are confusing. Boyd's fixed my EGR and sent my "pass" smog record to the DMV. Do they know their stuff? Not always.
After 4 visits, I want to update my review...
All visits were for minor repairs, that can require up to 30mn to be fixed. and they'll charge you for 2h or work. How can I say that? Just yesterday, 4:30 PM, they did not start working on my car.. Called them and they said that they'll do it right now.. It will just take 20mn, they said.. Indeed, they just needed 20mn since I picked up the car at 5:15 PM.. and the invoice said 2h... wait.. 4:30 PM + 2h can't be less than 5:15 PM, or man.. time flies.... I also learned that an O2 sensor costs less than $50 for my car. They charged me $100 each. Did they order it by Super-ultra-speedo-fedex?
Times are difficult, right? Sure.. it's Rip-off time!!!

Taking your car to the repair shop is not always the best part of your day, but Bob at Boyd's Body & Auto Repair Shop went above and beyond and made the experience as painless as possible. He could tell that I didn't know much about cars and after quickly checking into the issues I showed him, explained what repairs I needed and why, without pressuring me to have repairs done that I felt were unnecessary.
He gave quotes for prices on parts and labor, and even though the parts ended up costing more than his estimate, he charged me only what he initially said they would cost; that is excellent customer service! I will definitely be back knowing that I can trust his estimates.
Bob really knows how to make a customer happy. Because he was fixing so many other problems with my car and the bill was getting pricey, he agreed to replace a taillight for free and even washed my car when he was all finished! He washed my car! That's great service. I'm definitely going to Bob with all my future car repairs.

A few years ago I bought a snow white MINT inside-and-out pre-owned 2005 Toyota Matrix and promptly tore the front bumper back thanks to a hasty parking decision. I noticed Boyd's on the way home one day and stopped in for a quote from Bob- $1000 to replace the bumper, liner and fuel clips. Eager to spend $1000 on something else, I drove around for 2 years with my bumper attached by black piping tape. During that time I shopped around and found shops offering better prices but none with as good of track records as Boyd's, so i decided to go back and give Bob my business. He was so pleased with my return that he struck me a deal- $1000 for a new bumper (etc.) PLUS buff out the fog on the UV film of my headlights (promising 50% improvement vs. replacement of headlights) and affix the rear-bumper tread I had previously purchased elsewhere- all in exchange for a good review on Yelp. While fixing the bumper Bob noticed both of my fog lights were cracked and replaced them free-of-charge while my car stayed an extra day. My bumper and tread look great and my defogged headlights look BRAND NEW. Needless to say I am very pleased with a job well done from Boyd's and here are my 5 stars to prove it.

This is a great full-service repair shop that prices fairly and doesn't push unnecessary work on you. I trust Bob's diagnosis and repair completely. I just got my car back and she's riding so smooth and I thought she was a goner! Car's clean inside & out. I've been going to Boyd's for a decade now - so glad I found this place. They really go the distance, always throwing something extra in the deal for me. Going to Boyd's over the years has relaxed me about taking care of my car. It used to be an ordeal, now it's easy, relaxed, friendly. If I ever move away I'll want to take Boyd's Auto Body & Repair Shop with me!

I have taken my 1991 Nissan Sentra to Bob at Boyd's for about 3 years now. I went there for the first time based on a recommendation from a friend. Since then, I've had 4 major repairs done here, and am very, very happy with the service. Boyd's does good quality work, and prices are reasonable. The customer service is excellent; Bob has always gone out of his way to take good care of me and my car, and I've greatly appreciated his honesty, and his explainations. I have recommend Boyd's to all of my friends, and several have gone there and also like the service.

I have only great reviews for Boyd's Auto Body. I found them by accident after getting into a accident (no pun intended) and I just hoped for the best. But I was more than pleasantly surprised to find an outstanding local body shop. Bob, the owner, is a super nice guy and goes above and beyond to make sure his clients are happy and taken care of. It's the WORST to have to take your car in for anything---the inconvenience of not having a car, the fear of finding unforeseen issues, the eeeek of the final bill. But Bob is just genuine and prepares you up front, so no surprises and he always works to get you the best deal. His team does excellent work and I have been going to Boyd's for years now and have never been unsatisfied. I even take my car there for basic mechanical needs because I just like working with Bob and I feel comfortable and trust him. If you need a fantastic auto repair shop, you will find honesty, careful attention to you and your vehicle, and an overall highly pleasant experience at Boyd's---for what is usually a pain-in-the-tuckus event.

I honestly don't know how Bob of Boyd's Body & Auto Repair Shop makes any money...the man has done so much work on my '92 Volvo for virtually nothing!! He is definitely a mechanic I fully trust...and that's saying a lot as a female who normally gets taken for a ride in that industry...no pun intended;-).

They always take my car the same day I call or bring it in. Usually, I can count on picking it up, work finished, mid-day or they will leave it parked on the street after closing. In two years, have never had to take it back for a re-do. Their prices are very fair, and whenever they can, they will give you a break. I've found the staff to be courteous and accommodating. They do not act in a condescending way toward women, nor soup up the diagnostics to take advantage of our ignorance. High recommend!

So my story continues on my 95' doge neon!! About a month ago I drove my car to work and when I come out to go home my car won't start. I was like "here we go AGAIN!!" I went home and started to think about all the things that could be wrong with my car and most importantly HOW MUCH IT WAS GOING TO COST!! I went as far as applying for a car loan to get another car!! The next day was a Saturday I went back to my car at work and tried to start it again and nothing. I started to think it might be the same problem I got fix the last time at Body's. So I called Bob and told him what was going on. Because it was a Saturday Bob's tow truck driver wasn't in the shop. However, Bob told me if I can get to the car to the shop he would take a look at it. So I got the car towed to the shop and Bob said you would have to car back to me by Monday. So Monday come and went with no call from Bob, so I really started to get nervous. I said to myself if I haven't heard from Bob by now then it most be a BIG PROBLEM! So Tuesday come and went as well. On Wednesday Bob finally called me and told me what to problem was.... I was like "Bob lay it on me" and he said "Miss. Jasmine your car was out of gas!!" I almost drop the phone... Out of gas!! It turns out my gas gage was broken. So I asked him how much do I own you? (Let's recap... Car in Shop= 3 days, 3 days of labor trying to find the problem, and finding and fix the problem) I was waiting for the boom to drop!! Then Bob said... "Miss. Jasmine it will be $20 for the gas we put in your car"... $20 THAT'S IT?!! YES $20!!! Bob could have charged me SO MUCH MORE!! I know for a fact that if I would have taken my car to other shop.. I would have paid for labor, car storage, and the fixing of my gas gage!!
Bob is a VERY TRUSTWORTY PERSON!!! I WILL ALWAYS DO BUSINESS WITH HIM!! THANKS AGAIN BOB!!

I agree with Ryan M. You could almost miss this place in Emeryville, but thank goodness I decided to stop by and get a quote. I visited several body shops and finally decided on this one. They gave me a great deal on my repairs.
When I picked up my car I was impressed. Everything was complete, looked great, and on top of that they detailed my car as well as fixed a few other imperfections. The work was superb and the price was spectacular!

just called the shop said my car wasnt starting and seeing if they can give me price over the phone, and couldnt do that, thing they should of told me was the price of them looking at it, which is $90 bucks per hour!!! and thats only to look at it. as i eyeball there BBB plaque and wonder who does business like this these days?? the least they can do is tell me that its $90 bucks per hour to look at it over the phone b4 i take it over there!! not take it here without saying thats there policy when working on cars!! so i take it around the corner to oakland, and within 5 secs they figured out the problem without charging me a thing to look at it, just parts and labor!! i imagine u get an extra fee working with these folks, and they said if u know whats wrong with it theyll fix it blindly is what they propose without them looking at it!! not down with it, and on top of it place looked busy maybe because it takes them an hour to figure out whats wrong with it!! i mean if u been working on cars all ur life its should be instinct! and not like well figure it out in an hour???

My car was stolen and was pretty messed up when it was recovered, missing all wheels, computer, jacked ignition, etc. Without insurance, Bob was really nice to help me and work with me to fix up my TL for cheap. He spent a few weeks of time on it, took it around the city to get different parts fixed, waiting for me to get parts that are within my budget. Excellent service, and i wouldn't hesitate to bring any of my cars over to him if I need to.

I'm suspicious that male auto shop proprietors think they can rip off this daugter of a mechanic. But I had a great experience with Boyd's and would gladly recommend them to my friends.
Recently someone rearended me, and I got two estimates -- one from Boyd's, and another large shop in East Oakland, with which I had a good experience with previously. The other place stood out with a really nice appearance, seeming to cater to a more upscale clientele. In comparison, Boyd's shop was clean, but the front office was purely utilitarian. No bells and whistles. Both estimates initially came in at the same amount, but I took my car to Boyd's. Here's why.
First, Boyd's assured me that the estimate was complete--the price would not go up later. The other place said that there might be more charges after the technicians pulled the bumper off. But Bob, the guy from Boyd's, got down to look under the bumper. He could assure there wouldn't be any upcharges. Hmm, choosing between possible upcharges and no upcharges... Seems like an easy decision to me!
Second, talking with Bob lead to a more competitive price. We were able to reduce the price by patching, instead of replacing, the bumper. (Though in the end, Bob replaced the part anyway, but didn't charge me for it and kept his word about no upcharges.)
Third, Boyd's was prompt. I brought the car in on a Wednesday and picked it up Friday. I think that's not bad considering that they had to order the parts, prime it, match the paint and paint it.
Fourth, they did a great job. I have a silver metallic flake paint, which can be hard to match. The previous body shop was slightly off, but Boyd's nailed it. It looks perfect.
Even though Boyd's may lack finesse in the swank-factor, and there's minor idiosyncracies (like I could only get a verbal, not written estimate at first), Bob runs a good, clean, efficient and affordable shop. Plus, they detailed and washed my car--nice touch!

Plain and simple - I love Boyd's Body and Auto Repair Shop! I highly recommend them to anyone, especially to the female populace, who are looking for honesty, trustworthiness and satisfaction. Bob and his crew have kept my 26 year old car, which has 240,000+ miles, in fantastic running condition. His prices, services and turn-around times are among the best in the area! Cheryl W., a very satisfied customer.

Wonderful work, nice guys, gave me a ride home (which wasn't that close) when I left the car, and ready sooner than expected. Brought car in twice and both times same excellent experience. Good price too. Ronnie P in El Cerrito

I didn't have a great experience here. They won't lift a finger for under $95 for "an hour" check, regardless if it takes them 5 minutes to diagnose something, in addition to whatever they will charge for the actual repair. I did not feel like the quotes were reasonable either. I would recommend that if you charge a minimum $95 for a diagnostic, mark the time it took to actually do that and add it to labor to reflect the time you actually spent for the customer. Also were not respectful of my time, I had to bring in my car twice over two days and wait for 6+ hours for a diagnostic that took them about 10 minutes.

Great service and great price. They have done work for us from fixing body work, head gasket and breaks. He won't overcharge and will not suggest that you fix things that don't need repair or maintenance. I have been going to Boyd's Body Shop to service my car for over 6 year and I always have a good experience when dealing with Bob(owner) and his staff. It is also very convenient for us since the shop is located near us in the Emeryville area. All of our cars have been taken care of and they usually give us a courtesy detailing and an occasional ride to where we need to be :) I'm very satisfied with their service and I recommend this shop to anybody who needs a honest Mechanic shop to rely on.

I am a female owner of a Volkswagen Jetta. I took the car in for a 90,000 mile check. I was afraid to go to other shops because of the cost. The owner made me so comfortable. He took great care of the car. He ordered all the parts so the whole job took only a day. The car is running well, like new, and he even washed it for free. I highly recommend.
