NW Automotive has serviced and repaired every car I've owned for the past 20 years. Back when they were in the U District.
Doug is a professional - always. He is very conscientious and methodical in his approach to his work. He's hires top quality mechanics and does a great job of supervising and managing his staff. Everyone that I've ever talked with at any of his shops have always been knowledgeable, courteous and friendly.
When I bring my car in, Doug (or Raoul at the Lake City shop) explains what he thinks the problem might be and then calls me later to tell me what they found, how much it will cost, how long it will take and (most important) what my options are - some repairs can wait, others are urgent and sometimes there's a less expensive fix (and he explains what the trade-offs would be). He's very patient with me and never talks over my head (or down to me, either).
My car usually ready before it was promised and right at or below the estimate. When I pick up my car, he explains what was done and, if different than he estimated, he explains what changed and why.
He also has complete records of all the work done on my cars going back for as long as I've owned each car. And he gives me a heads-up when major maintenance is recommended at certain mileage points.
I've also had Doug do Buyer's Inspections on used cars that I've considered buying. He is always honest - he's steered me away from potentially bad choices and into cars that have been dependable, low-maintenance cars.
I would never trust my car to anyone except NW Automotive.

At first, the owner, Doug and I got along great. But, as my vehicle became more difficult, so did Doug, unfortunately. The final job he did for me was to fix a transmission fault. He spent around 3 hours on the issue, and charged me about double what it should have cost, and that was being generous. How do I know this? I know the cost of the item he replaced... In a professional manner, I simply questioned the bill, and he began stammering, sweating, and speaking disrespectfully. That meant he was lying to me. This is quite the about-face from Doug's attitude previously. They obviously don't want to see me back. Mission accomplished. What a shame; they are talented mechanically but ripped me off.

Doug is great. Price very reasonable. They have given me a ride to work and picked me up. Last time I even got a loner car. Thank you so much. Got more maintenance to do on a 2002. I'll be back.

I usually always go to my Ford dealer, but decided to give these guys a shot after my dealer quoted me $550 before tax for my 30K service, and these guys quoted $206. The dealer then came back and said they'd do the service for $250. So I went with these guys since they didn't lie to me from the get go. I could have probably gotten away with under $200 for the oil and fuel filter change. But I elected to fix a problem with oil in my spark plug tubes by draining it and resealing the valve cover, and do a major service to my AC which brought it from basically useless to freezing cold! They were happy to honor all their coupons and they gave me a ride to and from. I paid $540 after tax in the end. I cringe to think how much the dealer might have charged me for all this work. Ten years ago I was quoted $800 to fix the AC on my old car alone, so I think I did OK. Still can't be sure I wasn't swindled in some way, but you can NEVER be sure with these places unless you're a car pro! They were very nice too, so I'd recommend them. I dealt with the owner beginning to end, which may have helped. They take AMEX, which was a plus.

Exceptional service! Extremely integritable! Have been conducting service with NW for years! We have yet to find a more friendly and affordable service! Unlike many of the other repair centers in the area, NW is absolutely amazing in that they are reasonably priced and conduct repairs in both an efficiently and integritable manner. They privide us with a ride to and from our home or office for free, as well. Does'nt get much better than NW! Highly recommended!

I've never had a mechanic repair anything on any of my cars until I had a spark plug blow out of the threads on my wife's car, which she uses for work. I'm a DIY guy, but knew better than to try this kind of repair for the first time. I called other shops first after the breakdown, but I'm glad Doug ended up being the guy who could turn around my car in the time I needed. Doug got my car fixed at the price I expected and by the time I needed it. Labor and parts were reasonable - a $70 ignition coil (which the plug took out when it ejected) and 1.5 hours labor to repair the damage with a proper insert, not a helicoil nor just "tapping it out" as other shops had quoted offhand over the phone (Doug would not offer a set solution until he took a look at how bad the damage was, which I appreciated). He recommended some reasonable additional service without pushing it when he called me with a quote after he was able to look at my car (replacing the other 5 spark plugs properly to prevent the same problem from happening and replacing leaky valve cover gaskets, which I'd just been ignoring). I needed to get the car back on the road ASAP for my wife's job and there was no hassle in settling on the minimum repair, which is what he offered initially. When I went to pick up the car, Len, the other tech at the shop, offered some advice when I asked on how to safely remove the other plugs if they felt corroded in the heads if I went to do the job myself. I am living a bit on the cheap but I may just shell out the bucks to have Doug to the plug job when I'm able, I'm very pleased with how his shop handled my problem and will recommend him to anyone else I know.

Service quality is good but very expensive. I should have went with my feelings, example Honda ATF, this shop charge me more per Qt than the Acura dealer --- $160 just for fluids. All the reviews seem good but I walk away with a feeling of being taken and I am right. Here is my problem with this, these alternative shops are to help owners, and to help owners from the inflated cost of dealers, but when the dealer is less money, I question why I use this place.

I just had a vehicle inspected here before a purchase. The owners are new and these ones are excellent. He took his time and did a very meticulous job. He was very honest and didn't try to push repairs to make money. If you're in search for a good honest mechanic, definitely give Doug a shot, you won't be disappointed. I wasn't!

Doug was very knowledgeable about the issue my VW Jetta was having and how to fix it. Their prices were fair and I didn't feel overcharged for the amount of work they did. Doug went over all the work they did in detail and was able to answer all of my questions. Good, honest auto shop that you can trust. They warranty their work for 1 year and that is nationwide.
