I have a 2003 Nissan 350Z, and I put some bolt-on performance parts on it. I've been searching for months for a good place to get the car tuned to take advantage of the Engine Management system and the potential of the bolt-on parts (Cold Air Intake and Exhaust). PSI was recommended to me by 503 Motoring in Beaverton, and I have to say I love it there. When I first pulled up, I noticed a plethora of sports cars (Corvettes, Camaro LS1, Mustangs, an M5, a Noble, and a few Toyota Supras). That reassured me, since people with much nicer cars than myself are willing to trust this team. Not only that, but a lot of tuners in the Pacific NW focus on Subarus, so they typically won't touch certain types of cars. Well, there were tuners, luxury, muscle, and more.
I had spoken to Brian on the phone to make sure that I had everything that I needed. Brian alone saved me $200 just in tuning software that I was misinformed about. When I walked in, I was greeted by Brian and another employee. Brian actually shook my hand, which is something that I was surprised by. After getting all checked in and what not, he introduced me to the tech that would be doing the tune. His name was Jason. Jason saved me $150 on a part that I purchased that I didn't need that I was told that I would need. So may car hadn't even been touched, and I was already feeling pretty good. Both Brian (Lead) and Jason (I think he's the Co-Owner) seemed to know exactly what they were talking about.
While they were hooking up my car, Brian gave me a tour of their facility, and I was absolutely awed. They have a huge garage, which had at least 10 cars in it (most of them appeared to be being worked on). After the tour, he said "make yourself at home." They had a nice waiting area, which I'll explain in a second. While I was entering the waiting area, another employee came over and briefly explained the waiting area to me.
The waiting area was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. There was a nice couch, water/coffee and they have a setup on the wall (left-to-right) of mounted TV, window, mounted TV. The TV on the left is a live feed into the room behind the wall. The window is a view of your car on the dyno. Finally, the TV on the right is linked to the computer being used to tune your car. This means that it will display real-time engine info during the dyno pulls, then display the results after each pull. This entire display blew me away.
After the process was over (I was there for around 2 hours total, I think), Jason (tech) recapped all of the modifications that were made, and explained the dyno graph to me. This was nice because he was able to tell me exactly what he change within certain RPM bands that made the biggest differences in power. He also explained the tweaks that were made to the ECU, all of which lead to better overall driveability.
I will recommend PSI to anyone interested. I've already told two my friends about them, and I hope that they also utilize their services. Brian and Jason, thank you so much for the tune, the car runs noticeably quicker and smoother.
