Super friendly, efficient staff. I will definitely come again for my car needs. Everyone was helpful from the get-go and they are reasonably priced.

I have been to a wide variety of auto shops in the valley & no other has satisfied me the way James West Auto did.
I do admit I am not easily impressed. They provided me with quality customer service, and competitive prices. The mechanics were friendly and helpful. In past experiences, mechanics have underestimated my ability to understand mechanical issues because I am a woman. I have been lied to by many of these mechanics and spent thousands of dollars on unnecessary repairs.
The mechanics at James West Auto we're glad to explain and clarify in detail the repairs my car needed.
I have now brought both my car and my truck to get serviced here and I am still highly satisfied.
I absolutely recommend this this location to any individual who likes to receive quality customer service, low prices and high quality work.

Here's a picture of the invoice I was given from James west auto who now denies ever working on my car or having record of servicing my car. They've serviced my car three times total. I've covered my personal information because I do not wish to be contacted again on this matter. I am not a personal friend of any employee at James west auto so I'm not sure why Vinny is claiming to know my personal business. His Yelp reply is false and extremely unprofessional. I'm shocked at how this business handles customer complaints and especially Yelp reviews. I'm already in the process of reporting this business to the BBB and I will be including his false statements he's added to the Yelp review.

So on my visit i asked the shop to check my fluids. the shop never did. i drove another 7 miles home with my oil empty. also processed to tell me i need a new engine when i asked for a compression test. basically its 'what the shop says' over there. luckily my mechanic is my good friend and has helped me save $2000. i don't recommend this shop. they do t listen to what u have to say. and charge alot for little jobs. horrible customer service
My friend who referred me to this shop received a call from the shop owner two weeks ago. He was asking for my last name & where I worked because he's mad over my honest review on this site. There is another person on this site receiving the same calls over the same reason, a yelp review. So after trying to get ahold of the shop owner after all this controversy over yelp reviews. I still haven't received a call back, the same person who talked to me about my car when I was there, which happened to be a young kid, is the same person who says he is relaying the message to the shop owner. My only reason for the first review is because I wasn't given any type of acknowledgement when i was there, the shop owner had time to say hello to my friend and talk for five minutes, but never even said one word to me, nor looked at my vehicle. They changed a spark plug that was bad, come to find out all my spark plugs were bad. I've called the shop twice last week trying to speak to the owner about this. FACTS of the situation, you do not call customers over yelp reviews and threaten them to take the review down, "or else". I'm not fond of things that are directed in a manner of a threat towards me. I'm calling the shop tommorow because my lawyer would like to speak to the shop owner as well, so hopefully he will have the time to take that call. If I could give this shop no star I would, I feel so disrespected.

Long overdue update : I originally took my car in to find out why the battery kept getting drained. So they said well replace the alternater. Had the alternater replaced took the car home car sat for 2 days then wouldn't start .. the new battery was once again dead. So we brought it back in . Then we were told that it was a parasitic battery drain. We would have to leave the vehicle x amount of days and pay labor charges to find out wat it was . I was told it could be very pricy (hundreds) . So they gave me the option to have a kill switch installed for 100$ that switch only lasted a week before it broke.. and I replaced it myself it broke again, and again. The components are cheaply made. Then I start doing my own research on parasidic battery drains , come to find out its not as complicated to find as they say. I did it at home and had it figured out in about 2 hours. Im never coming back here. It ain't worth it. I wasted time and money. You guys are supposed to be car doctors not somone who takes a guess and puts on band aids. I replaced a perfectly good alternater that didn't even need to be . Smh.

Below my review you can see what Vinny, the shop owner, had to say regarding my 12/8/2015 update to my review. I will be quoting his response throughout this updated review.
I would just like to say that had I been contacted via Yelp, which is the appropriate way to contact reviewers, I would have listened to what he had to say and may have updated my review or removed the poor rating I gave the shop all together. Even a more level-headed phone call would have gotten me to listen, although I still would have been uncomfortable with the fact that he looked at nearly two year old repair records to find my phone number. In fact, if he had said "although I understand that her sister being dissatisfied upset her in return; it does not justify her writing a review which is hurtful to my business and reputation", which is what he claims he called me to say, I would have been willing to listen. Instead, I was immediately yelled at and threatened with litigation on the phone by someone who simply refused to acknowledge that it was at least a little bit inappropriate and unethical to use old repair records to contact people about something not related to work they were currently having done.
This man had to use my last initial and previous review on Yelp and look through vehicle repair records to see if I shared a last initial with anyone else in the system before he would have been able to call me about this one star review. This is a blatant abuse of client privacy. He all but admits to doing this when he states "However, our records show that this is a customer that has not patronized this establishment since September 2014". He LOOKED THROUGH HIS CLIENT LIST UNTIL HE FOUND A NAME THAT MATCHED A YELP REVIEWER. Even after having my privacy violated, being yelled at, and being threatened with litigation, I was willing to listen. However, I was hung up on and never received another call. My conversation with Vinny from 12/9 is detailed in my previous reviews.
In this situation, part of my review is not based on first hand experience, and that is the part about my sister's car that I updated on 12/8. Vinny says that I am entitled to my opinion "BASED on personal experience". Unfortunately for Vinny, everything past the review I gave on 12/8/2015 detailing my sister's experience IS based on personal experience, and due to the way I was treated and the abuse of my information, I will be leaving my rating at one star and maintaining my very poor opinion of this shop.

I have been going to vinny for years. Me and my family own five Cars and we take every since one to him. The people feel just like home and are always friendly. The shop is clean and well organized. I love that everytime I have a question about my car Vinny takes the time personally to come see the problem and fix. My dad and I have been loyal customers and will forever bring our cars here. We love everything about this shop they feel like family!. Greg and Heather Bock

I've been here several times and would highly recommend Vinny. I always compare his prices and services to other reputable auto shops and he always gives me great prices and outstanding service. Most importantly, he's very honest! He only makes necessary repairs and explains everything in detail.

James West Auto Repair has furthered their reputation as an honest and trustworthy auto repair establishment.
Mr. West's beside manner was beautiful, he asked me lots of questions and went above the scope of service to get me taken care of quickly. Another mechanic had previously half-heartedly insisted that my precious jewel had lost compression and a new motor was the only way to get her back.
Thankfully, after a leak down test, Mr. West informed me that the engine was in great shape and only needed a few small replacements. They quoted a replacement injector, idle air control module and labor at a fair price and since the injector actually cost less than they quoted, they passed the savings on to me (a little over $60 )which was a great help in an emergency such as this. The car runs great and after only one job completed I can tell that James West will be my go to mechanic from here. Thank you!

My family has been friends with James & his wife Cindy for over 30 years & we have always taken our vehicles to James for great work at a reasonable price. Recently, James and Cindy decided to move back to Georgia and they sold the shop. A few weeks ago my mom and I went in because my brother's truck was having problems. We took the truck in, they got the truck running and supposedly fixed everything even though they charged us $90 for an alignment and the truck still has to have the wheel turned 1/4 way to the side to drive straight. The next week we brought the truck back in because it was stalling (after the fixed the transmission) and oil was running down onto everything under the truck. He took a look, told us that it wasn't oil but that it was just grease they put on (yes, I'm a female but I know what oil is) then stuck his fingers in it and sniffed it and rubbed it together and then said oh. Yea, that's oil. So they fixed the truck again (free of charge). When they got done, my mom went inside to ask the front desk lady (Winny's wife) for a receipt saying what they did even though there was no charge. She rudely said "we don't do that" My mom said I just want something saying what was done to my truck and that's when it all started. She again said we don't do that & my mom told her that she has terrible customer service & so the lady told my mom to go talk to Vinny who was in the shop area, however, when my mom walked into the shop, she then told my mom that she wasn't allowed to go back there (which was strange because Vinny had already brought us there earlier) She then comes out and starts yelling at my mom telling her that we can't be in the shop area and starts coming towards my mom and screaming in her face. Finally Vinny told her to get inside and that if she wants to stay in business she has to stop acting like this & that the customer is always right ( if the customer is always right, why did you tell me the truck wasn't leaking oil & then change your mind???). To stay in business, you
1) You don't yell at your wife (or anyone for that matter) in front of customers.
2) And please...don't just assume I don't know what oil looks like because I'm a female. I treat great offense to that.
Long story long....I WILL NEVER TAKE ANOTHER VEHICLE HERE!! (Unless of course the real James West comes back.

Had trouble with pulsating brakes coming over Tehachapi Pass while
Las Vegas from the Bay Area. I called James West Automotive and explained the problem over the phone. He had a pretty good idea what it was, and asked me to bring it in the next morning. They replaced the front rotors and brake pads, and no more problems! A one day fix and I'm all ready for the drive back home. Since I'll be towing my piano home, it will be much safer now with functional front brakes!

I had been going to these guys for a while. They seemed to be very competent at first and so I kept going to them. I would have a issue and bring in the car and they would always tell me it's running fine, that there were no problems with it or sometimes they would find a problem although after fixing it the same problem was still existent. I probably spent a little over 4 grand at this shop for repairs that didn't even fix my main concern issues. Sometimes a 2 day job turns into a week, once I went in and they said "what is it this time?" as if I am bothering them with repeat business, needless to say I don't go to them anymore.

The West family has been taking care of my families vehicles for decades...you will not find a more professional and honest shop in this city. They have saved us so many times I cannot even count.
For brake jobs, in depth engine repair, or hardcore troubleshooting they will take great care of you plain and simple.

Old Time values when a Man's Word was his Bond are to be found at this shop.
James West has repaired a variety of my cars domestic and foreign through many years. He has my daughter's 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer running like new. A rare find, indeed.

I decided to go to them bc I heard good reviews and they gave me a pretty decent quote. I needed an AC system repair which takes about 5-6 hours. The job got done but they took entirely too long to do it. Along with their poor communication skills due to their lack of calling, I never knew when I was getting my car back. I dropped my car off on a Monday afternoon and didn't end up getting it back until wednesday right before they closed. During that whole time they only called me once, and every time I called to see if my car was ready they gave me a new finish time. They didn't even call to notify me that my car was finished. They got the job done at a reasonable price, but you run the chance of being car less for a while which is pretty difficult and frustrating for me.

James West and company are the real deal. Honest mechanics and really nice people. James kept my 1990 ISUZU TROOPER humming along. Once, he even loaned me his personal vehicle while the Trooper was in for major mechanical work. Simply the best, honest and humble about being AMAZING ! !

I have to say that I have never had more confidence in a shop. I know that when I take my car to E Motors that my car will be fixed right, not rigged, and not tinkered with. This shop stands by their work and are very honest and extremely reasonably priced. I don't trust just any shop when it comes to my car. I've been going here for a while now and I don't want any other shop to touch my car ever again......
