I took my Nissan hardbody for a roadtrip from Oakland to Portland- and overheated in Redding. Bummer scenario... broken down in a town I'm not familiar, and a sitting duck for a mechanic to take advantage of a traveler needing to get somewhere. It was obvious I had cracked the radiator and needed a replacement. First, called my personal mechanic at A.J. Nissan to see what he would charge me for the replacement. Then called Jamie at Underhood for a quote. Not only was the quote the same and fair, but Jamie gave me the guidance to McGuyver things up on the truck for a couple miles to make it to him so I wouldn't need a tow and get there afterhours. By the time I arrived it was 4:50pm, right before they closed. Jamie ordered the part then and there, had it first thing in the AM- and the radiator was replaced and we were on the road no problem by 10:30am. Fantastic. Truck is holding up no problems. I wish he were local where I live in Oakland!
The icing on the cake: since we had to make new accommodations to stay the nite in Redding...Jamie drove us to AND picked us up from the hotel we stayed at. Thanks so much Jamie! Such a solid experience with Underhood.

Tried to get smog here after doing it here 2 other times. They would not do it because they seen wires that had nothing to do with the performance, and were Cal compliant. After recommending many customers to them, I will not ever go back. They said they just wernt sure or comfortable about the wires. I would think if you did this for a business you would be sure.

While driving from Olympia WA to San Francisco CA, my air conditioner went out...it was about 106 degrees in Redding. (Insert obscenity here) I was 13 miles from Redding so I thought I would stop for lunch, and then check the coolant..and buy some if need by at an auto supply store. Initially annoyed because we had recently changed the oil...please don't tell me Firestone forgot to top of my fluids AGAIN!
Well after I stopped for lunch...the car was making a really loud noise. Unfamiliar with the area I drove to the first garage I saw. Underhood Automotive. I usually dig private business over chain shops so, I was pleased to find them first. Jamie helped me. He looked at it and said the compressor went out, and its about a 6hr job that he could start Monday. -This was after 3pm on a Friday. (insert obscenities here!!!) Not his fault...it just sucked. Then I asked for the price. $1,200 parts and labor (insert more obscenities here!) Well not like I had 1,200 dollars laying around and I was stranded. I got a rental car to drive to SF. and asked him if he could keep the car over the weekend or even a few weeks until I could come back to pick it up after the repairs....while I find a way to pay for it. He was very nice and said he would not charge a storage fee. He said that he estimated high so there wouldn't be any surprises. He suspected it may be 100 dollars less.
We came up with the full 1,200 on Monday and he started the work...then called my husband to say he made a mistake and it would be 1,300.00. for an additional part that needs replacement Oh geeze that sucks, but okay. So my husband found another hundred to move into our account....then Jamie called again saying, "oops I meant to say 1,366." So my husband said um...no. (Somewhere in between he had called me and quoted 1366. So maybe he forgot he told one of us but not the other?) So he agreed to do the job for 1,300. My husband thinks he tried to get more money because our car was stranded. I think he just made a mistake. Lets take a poll! All who think I am right message me. All who think husband is right message me. I'll display results as they come in. *you know you are on my side ;)* By Tuesday the car was finished and I drove from SF to Redding to get the car, then back to SF. Yeah. that sucked. C'est la vie. Car working great Air conditioner working great. Would I come back? Definitely. Great work done, and they were so kind...and nice enough not to charge a storage fee, and were willing to keep it several weeks if need be! Awesome! Oh yeah they have Wifi!

I went in to get a bad wheel bearing replaced. I decided to buy my own part to save and just have them do the labor. The mechanic was friendly and fast, in fact he finished the job in less than an hour (although this shop charges by the inflated book price so I paid for 1.9 hours).
The problem is that the machine shop decided my hub was bad too. The guy who runs the front said he could get parts together since the machine shop was next to NAPA so I decided to go with the parts they ordered. When the old hub came back to the shop I thought it looked fine. He tried to tell me that it was bad, that he had to go by what the machine shop said, and that he had not marked up the price of the part anyway. Turns out the hub was fine. 2 shops told me so and the machine shop admitted that it was just slightly worn. It is sad because I paid for something I feel I shouldn't have.
I went back to Underhood to see what the front (so called christian) counter guy could do since I bought the parts from him. Apparently, coming in to ask is a huge insult to him. I was berated and "how dare I try to bring in my own parts", besides the point since I ended up buying the parts from him anyway. He was verbally abusive, shouting and refused to talk to me about the actual issue. He kept asking me irrelevant and inappropriate questions and ended up calling me a "cheap stupid @#&!*". I was never actually given a written work order estimate which is against the law. I was also charged to dispose of the parts I took with me. Beware. This front counter guy will rip you off if you let him. He belongs somewhere away from the public or in anger management.
My front end seems to be good though. Too bad about the unnecessary hub expense and waste not to mention the horrible way I was treated. He will chase all the repeat customers away.

This is without a doubt our new/favorite mechanic! My fianc and I went in with only an hour or so notice and they were able to fit us in. Unfortunately we found out that our car had blown a head, but for the first time in my entire life I trusted everything that a mechanic told me. Not only did they not try to sell us on anything, he charged us less than he quoted to diagnose it, printed us out the information for the government program that offers you money for your car, and he told us we could bring by any cars we were debating purchasing and be would check them out free of cost. We came back the next day to do just that, and sure enough Jamie came out and examined the car inside and out, listened to it, and took the time to answer all my annoying questions. I didn't feel rushed, unimportant, or persuaded in any way. He is a kknowledgeabl & trustworthy mechanic that goes above and beyond for his costumers. I would recommend him and his shop to any and everyone who asked. My fiance (who is, at times, rather picky and opinionated) also mentioned that in his 34 years of life Jamie is the ONLY mechanic he has fully trusted... which is a huge statement coming from him! Thank you guys again for everything you've done for our little family, it means more than you could possibly know! We will definitely be seeing you guys again and again for years to come! :)

I was very pleased with the service and when the smog was all said and done (I passed), one of the techs explains some minor fixes I could do to keep my vehicle running smoothly.
