Honest friendly.... spot on with their fees... much more affordable than the dealership .... and they have great service guys... free coffee and snacks and water... TV comfortable atmosphere and it's always fun to sit and talk to other Volvo car owners. Nothing better than a mom-and-pop shop... they've been in business for 35 years.

Brought my 2001 V70 T5 ( with a 173000 miles ) for a no start. I had just had the head done by another mechanic and after he was at a loss. We sent it to Pauls, and I was sure it was a $700 - $1500 repair. I even told Pauls what I thought the problem was ( A recalled Electronic Throttle Module ). It turned out to be a couple of loose clamps on the intercooler ( apparently the previous owner who had started replacing the head must have loosened them for some reason). Anyway they COULD have replaced the module anyway, and charged me $800, they could have charged me for any number of things and just tightened the hose clamps. They did NOT.. they charged me $89 and told me what the problem was. All I know is that they were honest and straight up with me and did a great job.

Integrity is the word for this place.
My "new-to-me" $6,500 Volvo had problems after a few months. Volvo said it was a know issue and to repair "X", and your maintenance of "Y" needs to be done. $3,000.
I check out Yelp and find Paul's. I simply ask I need to know what had to be fixed and if it is worth fixing. They call me the next day and bottom line is to sell the car as repairs are $6K.
The previous owner (mechanic) bought at an auction, screwed it up and sold it before it died. We dropped it for $3,500. A $3,000 loss, but saved future headaches.
It is nice to have people of integrity that won't have us repair a "loss". When we purchase the "replacement" vehicle we will have Paul's check it out to see if it is worth the price.
Thank you for your professionalism and ethics!

After my last visit to Paul's I'm surprised they didn't throw me out. Having received the estimate for the work (bringing my total spent on the car this year to more than I owe on the car) I burst into tears, cursed the car, cursed Volvo and, I don't know, I might have cursed the Swedish people as well (my sincere apologies, I know and love many Swedes but, well, those associated with the Volvo company should watch out). If I hear one more time what great cars Volvos are and blah blah blah I am going to scream. Somehow I apparently bought the only piece of s#!+ that Volvo ever made. Even if I left the keys in the unlocked car downtown this weekend probably no one would take it (it will be on the corner of Main and 8th if your interested!).
But, this is a review of Paul's, not of Volvos.
When we moved here (with our piece of s#!+ Volvo) I called several mechanics that worked on imports, asked who they would recommend for Volvos and called several of those places to check hourly labor charges, who had loaner cars, etc. Paul's came out on top with the most competitve hourly rate and they do have loaners (you will need to tell them in advance that you need a loaner, it costs $15/per day but you do not have to put gas in it). Their shop is nice and comfortable if you need to wait. Each time I have taken the car in I can tell that they genuinely feel bad when they bring me the total. The go into detail about what the problems are, what my options are and what they recommend. After my last outburst they even drove me to my office which I don't think is a service they generally offer but, knowing that I am becoming their best customer and taking pity on me they helped stranded girl out.
Even though it is not conveniently located for us I will continue to take my car here because of their competitive pricing and stellar personal service.

I just moved to Midlothian and needed service on my 2005 XC90. I went to Paul's Volvo because of the reviews for a 112K mile service (oil change, fluids change, rotate tires). It had 115K miles on it and I rented one of their loaners. My car ended up being there for 2 days because Danny, at the front office, kept calling to inform me of new (expensive) problems they had discovered that needed work: replacement of the timing belt, replacement of the thermostat, replacement of two front tires. The bill was $1875!!! A week later I was pulled by Henrico Police for an expired state inspection sticker. The sign at Paul's Volvo clearly states it is a state inspection station. In fact, when Danny told me I had to replace my two front tires (although they were new this spring) he said it was because they would not pass inspection as is. Do you think during all that time and scrutiny that they had my car someone there could have noticed that my inspection sticker was expired??? That's like going to the doctor for a sore throat and having him miss the cancer sticking out of your neck. This is sloppy, unprofessional (and expensive) service. I won't be back.

The fixed my Volvo when ever something went wrong. They were always honest and nice. I would continue to get my car fixed there but I don't live there now.

Paul and his family have taken care of all of our Volvos over the last 30 (no, is it really that long?) years. Reliable, honest, personal, same-day service unless otherwise specified, friendliest front desk you could ask for, family business with three generations plus in-laws working there. They have accommodated more weird requests from me than I can remember. All mechanics/technicians knowledgeable and helpful. Loaners available, waiting room well appointed, with a kids' corner too. Highest recommendation!
