Used Sam for all car smog checks for years: He's honest. Drove a new car for a few years, then had to go back to AQMD check-ups; Tried to use a local guy, what a disaster! Same car passed "old test", but not with new test/CA laws. This guy wouldn't even tell me the problems, just "go to mechanic". You don't want that not knowing kind of grief. Finally I found Sam. He's working in clean new shop- He found out what the problem was, explaned it in plain English. I new exactly what was wrong with car. With fix the car was checking OK again-PASSED! Do it right the first time. Sam's the real deal.

Hands down this is the best place I've ever received a smog check from and I'll be sure to go again with the rest of my cars. I went here because it had great yelp reviews and the place lived up to its reputation. As soon as I pulled up the guy greets with a smile and has me bring my car in. I drove an '89 chevy suburban wasn't sure if she'd make it. But the tech pulled out every trick in the book to help me pass (all legal). I think he cared about my suburban passing more than I did! Then, to seal the deal with how cool this guy is one of his regular smog check customers pulled up while I was getting smogged. How the heck does a smog station have regulars?! Well, now he has at least 2 because I'll be coming back for as long as this place stays open. (hopefully forever)

I was so happy to see Sam in his new location. He is back in the beach cities area. Our family has been using Sam's expertise and wonderful service since he opened in his first Fountain Valley location in 2004. He had to leave there and was up in Westminster for a few years. I still even drove up there just to have Sam do my servicing. Now he has a 9 year lease so he'll be here in Costa Mesa for a while. A little tricky to find. As you travel south on Harbor, look for the Avis sign on your right just before Wilson. Turn right into this driveway. Sam is in the last bay on your left. As ever, his ready smile was there to greet me. No waiting. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. I highly recommend this wonderful small business owner; honest and kind.

We have been taking all our vehicles to Sam since he was in Fountain Valley. Followed him to Westminster and now Costa Mesa. It's a bit of a drive, but well worth it for quick, honest service. Wouldn't take my cars anywhere else. Sam makes getting your car smogged fast and easy.

Great Experience! Had to get my car a smog check but I got off of work at 6pm which is when all of the smog shops close....luckily I found this place! The gentleman I spoke with was so awesome! Yelp didn't disappoint; Sam is awesome. An appointment was easily made over the phone and the smog check was done quick.
Coupons/deals don't stack but the price was quite reasonable. Pretty sure he didn't take AMEX and I ended up paying either with my VISA or cash, but you can check with him.
There's not much more I can say other than that I recommend this place. I'm no car expert, but I know my basics. He was efficient, professional with the right amount of friendly, and we even chat a bit about E46s and bimmers in general before I left.

Blue Sky should be your one stop for that pesky DMV Star certified smog requirement.
Sam has been doing this for many years, but recently moved to this location. He knows his craft well and gives solid service. I have a tricky car for smog and he knew the proper prep to get my car to pass.

Great place to go when you need a star smog cert (they also do regular). Sam was AMAZING!!! The smog was 40 dollars and the cert was 8.25 so I got out of there for less than 50 dollars. Made me very happy. I would have bee done in 15 minutes but Sam let me pick his automotive brain during the test. My car has almost 80k miles so I am due for a tune up. They ONLY due smogs here but Sam was so kind to explain what I should look for and better yet what I did not need when a mechanic tries to up-sale you.. This is now my go to shop. Thank you Sam!!

The location is very clean so I don't have to worry that my car's interior will get dirty. Even though he's a bit out of my way, I still bring my cars to him for Smog. I found this place searching through Yelp and saw that it had good ratings and positive feedback. I also saw a friend's positive comment about Sam so it made me feel better about trying this place for the first time. I'm glad I did because the service was amazing. Sam was welcoming and full of energy. He made you feel at home with how he set up half of the garage with a tv, couch, plants, magazine rack, etc. It was a nice waiting area. He was friendly and took the time to focus on each customer. He knew how much your time was valuable and didn't waste a second to get the job done. Very efficient and does a wonderful job. Nice guy to deal with at the front desk. The service went smooth and everything was dandy until the second retesting. I failed my first test due to an noncompliant intake that I had installed. The second testing was supposed to be free, besides the certification fee that I had not paid the first time. Not only did he charge me, but there was 2 additional fees added on. Do not come here if you are trying to save $20...

In case you're trying to track down Blue Sky like I had to, yes, this is the same Blue Sky run by Sam that used to be in Fountain Valley on Brookhurst and Ellis.
Due to circumstances beyond his control, Sam had to move to Westminster, but you will still receive the same honest, professional and reliable service he's always provided in the past.

Called them to schedule an appointment near work to see how busy they are and they said to bring the car right in. The owner was friendly, polite, and helpful. 20 min and the smog check was done. I don't know what else to say but I definitely recommend this place if you want a smog check done.
Location is right next a 'Thrifty' gas location.

I've been here 3 times with 3 cars. Great deal, fast, and he always keeps the place clean and comfortable. I come all the way from deep in Irvine every time. Don't pay inflated South County prices for a smog check! Drive up to Westminster, letting your car warm up nice for a clean smog check. So if you're in Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Laguna, Aliso Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita,... Come up and save some money!

I had a faulty check engine light. Six smog shops quoted me prices upwards of $2000 to fix the light and pass the smog. Sam took one look at it and knew that the check engine light had inadvertently come on. My car passed with smog with zero CO emissions.
Sam, there are only few good men left and you're one of them. Ladies, if you don't want to get ripped off...then go to Blue Sky and Sam will take care of you.

My experience at Blue Sky Smog was AWESOME! I heard about Blue Sky through a friend and took my car there on a very hot Saturday afternoon. My car has had an issue with temperature for awhile and Sam was kind enough to fill my car with water so that it wouldn't overheat during the testing. I was afraid that my car wouldn't pass due to overheating and stability control issues. My car did in fact PASS! Yippee! Sam also noticed that my air pressure in my tires were too low and filled them to the proper pressure. Sam puts his customers first. Thank you Sam for being a great business owner and supplying your customers with first rate service and friendliness. I will for sure be bringing all 5 of my vehicles to Blue Sky in the future.

I own five different types of cars/ trucks, and Blue Sky smog is the only smog service I will go to. The owner Sam is a highly knowledgable auto professional that maintains state of the industry training and equipment. Sam is the only one who I trust with my sports car; other smog centers I've tried didn't even know how to hook it up for the smog test.
Blue Sky is the best smog service I have used, since moving to Southern California in 1989. I would recommend Blue Sky without any reservation.

i came in and asked for a quote he said $40 dollars. i was think to myself i could get this done for $30 at my usual place but that is like 3 miles away. i didn't feel like driving and wanna give this place a try. then after i get to pay he said it will $50 dollars. $40 for the service and $10 for the tax. 8% of $40 dollars is 10 dollars? what communist country do u live in? his name was sam what a scam/ overprice this place is.

Sam is the most knowledgeable, professional, and nice smog guy I have ever met. He was extremely thorough which was important to me as I had just purchased the vehicle. While I was there, he even helped educate me on california law regarding sale of cars to make me a smarter shopper in the future. He also gave me excellent advice to register an out of state car, and saved me from unnecessarily spending hours at the DMV. While I was there, he even let some random guy use his car jack to change a tire. He really didn't have to do any of that stuff, but chose to just because he could. It must be working out well for him, because he has done so well that this is now his second smog shop!
Also the previous reviewer who is saying that this shop is no longer there is referring to the previous shop who recently moved out.

Wonderful, wonderful is all I can say I would highly recommend Blue Sky Smog. New to the area and have never had to get my car smoged before. Sam is the go to guy I called at the last minute 5:52 PM. saying, "I was right down the street could he smog my car right now." Sam said that they close at 6 but he would wait. I got there at 6:15 Sam was polite, professional and quick. Jokingly I asked if the $10 off advertisement on the web page still applied after 6? Sam smiled and said yes it does. We are on a budget and were looking for a good deal. I read the Yelp reviews and saw the $10 off advertisement on their webpage. So I told my husband to head down there on his way to work. Unfortunately, the car did not pass because the car had just had a new computer put in the previous day due to a recall. The guy told my husband to drive the car for about 50 miles and then come back. So my husband paid $40 (this is the price I was quoted over the phone before the $10 dollars off) The guy overcharged my husband. My husband had to go to work but tried to make it back before closing. But he got stuck in traffic. When he called to let them know that he was running late the guy told him that it was too late. So he went back the next day. The car passed this time. But my husband was forced to pay for the smog check again. The guy told him he would give him a deal. But all he did was do the $10 off that he should have done in the first place. We ended up paying over $70 for a smog check that should have only cost $30. Absolutely horrible experience. We will not be coming back.

He charged $62.20 for the smog check and $1.59 extra to use my debit card, so I took a photo of the sign showing the extra charge (which is not allowed under Mastercard/Visa regulations), and went to leave. He physically blocked my exit and said he'd need the photo to be erased. I had to physically force my way past him, injuring my shoulder and elbow, and called Fountain Valley Police.

They already changed owner and staff. It is not pass or no pay type of store. They charge $40 upfront. These new guys do straight smog, not friendly, and do unnessary checking that made my result fail. They told me to go fix it then come back again for free testing. I went to another smog shop that has mechanic working there and said one of their test was excessive and not necessary. My mechanic said nobody does that kind of test now a day. I did smog that the other place to complete. STAY AWAY from this one.

Unfortunately this guy is complicity unprofessional . Failed my van because of vacuum switch that was actually connected fine and unrelated to emission system (I got letter from dealer about it) . After showing him factory repair manual and proofing that he was wrong about it he actually called police on me telling them that I tempered with van ...just not to honor his promise to re-smog if he was wrong about vacuum . Worst service I ever had
