- review 100% - Yes, their front desk and staff are all real nice but that's at first! This happened to my family back in 2011. Van went in for rebuilt transmission. Van came home 'supposedly' finished. Day after van home, took van to Costco to shop. Transmission failed on way home. They did send tow truck and paid for this but were not happy at the fact that the tow truck driver went ahead and stopped me at my house in order for me to unload over $200 worth of groceries first. Van stayed with them for over a week while they tweaked whatever. Too many stories from them to count. Right hand never knew what the left hand was doing. I could put out here 'actual' dates and times of our van being in over and over and over again. It was with them and having yet another 'supposedly' rebuilt transmission put in. We were over-charged again and again but always being stated that they did EXCELLENT work. Immediately after they had the van the very first time, there was a definite notice in something amiss with the ignition. This was pointed out to them. They stated they had never touched anything with the ignition while doing the rebuilt transmission. The ignition as well as the computer both began having difficulties. These were ZERO problems with the van originally. That summer of 2011 yet after the van being in and them working on it for days on end (or so they always said), I went ahead and took the van to Ocean Shores with a car load of kids. Van made it there but the transmission failed on way home and I was only able to do 20 mph and it was over 100 degrees outside that day. Lakewood Transmission said to bring it to them immediately. I was going as fast as I could! HA! Someone of an end to this story is that I do believe the transmission is fine BUT the van sits and only starts up once in a blue moon. They messed with the ignition/alarm/computer and after all the money they soaked out of us on all them 'supposedly' excellent transmissions they continued to put in the van, we don't have the finances to have the other fixed. But I do believe they'd do it for us if we had another credit card. And I do believe that after doing this fix, there would be something else in need of fixing. I would strongly recommend to anyone considering using them that they know MORE about transmissions. Get Lakewood Transmission to ALWAYS put everything they say down in writing. This isn't something they like or will do! They take short cuts. Be on your toes!!! Those nice smiling faces can turn very soar once you stop nodding your head and agreeing with them.

Lakewood Transmission was very upfront about everything involving the price for rebuilding a transmission. Everyone there is great. The first time I called them, it was at the end of the day, yet they were willing to stick around, pick up the phone and answer all of my questions. Not only did they take time to answer all of my questions throughout the process and were even willing to go as far as having me come down to the shop where they laid out all of the bad parts and showed me what they planned on using. Everything went smoothly. They rebuilt my transmission and everything is still going well. I would definitely go back again and will recommend their services.

Very nice front desk when you bring your car in. They appear to be very knowledgeable. Perhaps they are. I just know that they gave me a complete overhaul on my transmission once, taking 1 month, and costing over $3000 ( $800 over bid, because it had to be overhauled instead of rebuilt.) . 3 months later, my new transmission totally crashed. I had to have them redo it. All of a sudden, the front desk wasn't so nice anymore. They did rebuild the rebuilt transmission for free and quick too. Only, I could tell when I picked it up, it wasn't right. Of course, they could not see the problem. 2 months later, my transmission quit shifting again. So in 6 months, I have had to bring it back to them 3 times. I wish I did not have to go back to them, but as long as my transmission is under warranty and keeps breaking, I guess I am stuck.

I am attempting to rebuild a G...

I am attempting to rebuild a GM transmission myself for the very first time and my efforts would have ended it total failure if not for Don and the crew at Lakewood Transmission. They got me parts at a great price. Don personally escorted me over to one of the builders so I could learn first hand how to reassemble a tricky clutch assembly. They have gone out of their way to help me everytime I go in, which is often.

I have had several things done on my car by Lakewood transmission. As simple as getting a new battery to even new brakes on my car. The service was amazing and no issues afterwards. I even needed past invoices sent to me for an insurance claim and the request was done quickly and made my life easier. I have recommended Lakewood Transmissions to many friends & family members and will continue this. Of course I hope to not have future car issues but at least I have a trust worthy mechanic if something does happen.

Terrible experience in every way. My story is hard to believe. I went in to get my transmission fixed. So we go on a little drive so the mechanic can hear and feel the problem. He says it's not the transmission, it's the clutch. (I had just replaced the clutch a month earlier, so clearly a misdiagnosis.) He says it feels weird and then begins stomping on the clutch pedal. Long story short, something breaks while they were operating the vehicle. I literally can't even drive home now. They said it would be 650 to fix, but only 550 for me because they felt bad given the situation. How generous! I called A1 transmission down the street and they said they would fix the issue for 380. I had my car towed from the to a1. Over the next few days parts came in and they fixed the problem.
The next day when I asked if they could pay for some of the damage caused by their mechanic, they refused. Let's say, I would not recommend.

I'm always going to come back as a reminder about these crooks because a crook never change his face just the hair piece. Beware of this shop make sure you get everything in writing, make sure you do a walk around your car for damages, make sure you check your mileage. Make sure you read the small print and make sure if you have any problems and have to go to court also file with the BBB. And the attorney general office. Remember if you're not going to listen then atleast here is some follow up info once you're in trouble. Good luck with these low life's.

Stay clear !! Far away I agree with the other review. We took our van to this place customer service was very unfriendly and rude. And we had our van fix they gave us a warranty (yeah right) well one year later transmission went bad again we still had to pay 300 even though we had a warranty go fiqure then exactly one year after that the transmission went bad again so we just ditch the van. But bad service I would give them a zero.

I spent way too much money with this company, first buying "warrantied" differential from them, that failed, then experiencing the same thing with a transmission rebuild from them that failed. They blame everything on the customer and do not take any responsibility for their workmanship. The final straw was when they damaged the starter that we had just had replaced and left the vehicle in the lot dead for us to pickup at night. We had paid the bill for it during business hours, but couldn't pick it up until after they closed. The starter is located right next to the transmission and when we had it replaced a second time, it was obviously damaged and could have only happened at Lakewood transmission. They denied responsibility and became very nasty towards us and again, placed all of the blame on us for the problem. Beware the smiles they portray up front to lure you in, they are not what they seem.

STEER CLEAR OF THIS PLACE!
I wish there was a way to give these guys 0 stars!
These guys know nothing about Customer Service. I took my car here to get some tranny work. First they said that to check the tranny it would be free and then they would call us regarding the work. It took them a full 24 hrs for them to call us and tell us that they had only driven the car so far. They said that there were 2 more checks they could run on the car so we authorized the first one and told them to call us after that and we would decide what we could do from there. ANOTHER 24 hrs later and they have yet to call. We call them and they say they havent had a chance to do ANY work on the car yet and to call them back that afternoon and they would have more info. We wait til that afternoon and call back and they tell us they still didnt have any info and to call them back in the evening. At this point they have had our vehicle for 3 DAYS and no one knows anything about the car and they have yet to do anything but drive it. (which they said was free) We decide we are going to go get the car and take it somewhere else as we would like our car back soon. When we get to the shop you could tell that they had rushed and put the car on the hydraulic jack and just taken off the pan. You could tell it was just done as it was dripping. The guy said that it would be only $42 total for the labor of them taking off and putting back on the pan. We were okay with that and went to the cash machine to get the cash. By the time we come back the "owner" has raised the price to $135!! They proceeded to SCREAM at us and hold our keys hostage demanding that we pay the $135 for work they performed. After almost an HOUR of arguing with these people about the price for work that they admittedly didnt do the "owner" finally gave us our keys and told us "he wouldnt charge us for all the work they did". We took our keys and left.I have NEVER been treated so horribly by a company before and was appalled at their lack of customer service. It seemed as if they thought they were going to overcharge us because we were taking the car somewhere else. The "owner" kept asking us where else were we going to take it and we refused to tell them. I am positive these guys have done this to many other people and i just hope that this review will help others to stay away from this place.

Stay away from this place!!!!! They are rude, over priced and will take your car and let it sit there for days without a phone call before they know what's going on with it. I was very disappointed with the service I got and decided to take my car elsewhere. They tell you one thing on the phone but something else once you get your car in there. Shop around before leaving your car with this place!!!

Kirstie helped me and she was amazing, not only did they not take advantage of me and try to upsell a rebuild or a new transmission, she told me the cost just doesn't warrant the work that the transmission price installed would be upwards of $5000, they diagnosed the problem quickly and charged me nothing. Great exceptional friendly honest service here. I will never go anywhere else. Thanks to Titus-Will service center for recomending them to me!

Excellent service, They gave me a price to change the oil and filter in my 1969 chevy turbo 400. and when they were done that's all I paid. Refreshing! They did point out a number of things that needed to get done but, they didn't pressure me or chastise me about safety when I declined the additional service. They were still just as kind as when I arrived. And finally, before I left the Manager said that there might be a slight temporary smell in the cab due to some lubricant he had applied to my shifter. Wow, this truck has never shifted so smoothly. And this was no extra charge just saw a need that he could fix and took care of it. Awesome group of people.
