When I moved to this area rece...

When I moved to this area recently I was really afraid that I wouldn't find a great auto repair shop. Although I'm a car guy, and I really wish I was, I'm not very good under the roof of a car. I had a place back where I came from that I could really rely on and trust, but coming here I had no idea where to go. I had to find somewhere to go because I like to get my cars serviced regularly. Enter Atco Transmission....yay! I found a place that is trustworthy and reliable. The prices are really reasonable and the quality of work is top notch. They just gained a life long customer.

I have a 2006 Ford Escape that started to cut out I was driving home at first I thought it was the transmission I took it to a shop that I normally go to in Mission Hills and they told me that it was the engine had no compression and needed rebuilt I wanted to get a second opinion so I took it to Atco transmission they told me that the computer was bad it and assured me the engine was okay buy doing a compression check... after the repair was made I got my car back it drove fine for a couple of days and then started to misfire so I took it back to them and it turned out that I had bad coils as well so I had them all replaced they did not charge me any labor to put them in and my car's been running fine ever since...... very happy with our service thanks again Cole

When my poor little Mini Cooper got sick a few years ago (2009) a friend recommended Atco. I'm always nervous about going to mechanics, I don't know a lot about cars, and some folks have taken full advantage of that.
The guys at Atco aren't like that at all. A few years ago, and ever since, they've fully explained what's going wrong with my car. They explain what needs immediate attention, and what can possibly wait for a little while longer. As someone on a budget, this is incredibly important.
I love my car and always want to make sure I'm keeping it up as best I can (I don't even live in the valley anymore, but I make the drive to specifically go to them) but sometimes my wallet and bank account conspire against me. So when the guys at Atco explained pricing and necessary work to me, I don't feel like they're taking me for a proverbial ride.
Also, taking your car in to get serviced or repaired is typically not how one wants to spend precious days off. Coming into Atco, I'm always greeted with a smile, the guys remember name, and they actually care about me and my baby.
I don't write a lot of reviews on Yelp, but Atco's bedside manner for my sick baby inspires a five star review! Their business always makes me seem like my car and I are part of their (literal) family -- I just wish I'd inherited Bob and Cole's height!

These guys easily saved me $800.00 in repairs. I took my car to Aamco and knowing my car wasn't running and i had my back up against the wall they told me the only way they could diagnose it was by ripping the transmission out.
so i called these guys for a second opinion,
Turns out my car is fine and i messed up during a routine change and they had to flush my fluids and replace them back to normal, all in with a tow, $113.51.

I can't compliment these guys enough. They get the job done right and don't hassle you. I used to live in the area, but even now living farther away it's still worth it to me to drive to them. First time i got my car fixed there, they called me telling the problem asking me to authorize the repair, i authorized they fix and after they fixed they called me telling that actually there were another problem they saw just after they fixed the one before, more expensive....ok, i authorized again...The same thing repeated the second and the third time i took my car to fix there. So when they do the same thing for the third time you start questioning their competency, even because before i took my car there, another mechanic told me the problem of my car was in the engine and would cost around $1500 to repair. But i decided to take to Atco coz is closer from my work, they called telling me the problem was the radiator and would be $500 , so i authorized again, they did the service than "miraculous" found out the problem was in the engine and would cost $1500 to fix, so i didn't wanted, my car didn't worth that, so they wanted me to pay for the radiator they fixed, but i just authorized they fix the radiator because i could afford if that was the problem, but i wouldn't authorize any work in my car if they have told me about all the problems and how much would be. I don't believe they didn't know, something the first mechanic i took knew just of looking at. Or they are completely incompetent or a very dishonest business and i think rather suspicious that almost all of their one star reviews came from woman. After the phone argumentation, they took off the radiator and didn't charge but left my car worse than how they found, coming out a smoke that is so toxic everytime i have to turn on the car i feel sick. What they did is crime.Please, go look for another business.

Got my transmission repaired at this shop on my 95 Jeep Wrangler, a few years back. This jeep is only used for weekends and drives to the market. Not many miles put on it after I had the transmission replaced.
So I recently noticed a leak from the rear differential. Took it to my friend who is a great mechanic. (Wish I would have known him when I needed a transmission before I went to this place)
The seals on the transmission and rear differential, All bad because it was over tightened. Every bolt basically stripped because over tightened and to top it all off. The rear differential is from a junk yard. (When you buy parts from a junk yard, they usually mark the part with yellow or red markers. The rear differential has yellow marker.)

Hey guys with money you stiffed me for.
Buy a torque wrench so you can control the torque when you tighten, and a computer so you can google the amount of torque you need for each repair.

So an unfortunate update, the 2nd time I went in for my 2nd oil change + tire rotation they were all going to lunch (they all go at once I guess), so the guy said come back after lunch and they would only have time for an oil change (not the tire rotation), ok, no biggie. I came back and they quickly did the oil change, but so quickly that they didn't top off my car's fluid's (which I thought was part of an oil change). I know this because I went in with no wiper fluid, and I came out with no wiper fluid.
For my 3rd and last oil change and tire rotation of the coupon that I had bought, I decided to make an appointment so there wouldn't be any problems. Well every time I called the guy said just come in at 8am, otherwise we're too busy. I could never make it in at 8am. I even asked can I make an appointment to come in at 10am to which he said "no, we'll be too busy". Since I could never get there by 8am, and he wouldn't take any other appointment time over the phone, I dropped in one day at 11am, he said come back at 3pm and we should have time. Well, I live 20 minutes from the station so I decided to just forget about the 3rd oil change and tire rotation I purchased, figuring $33 was a good deal for the 2 oil changes + 1 tire rotation I received.
I guess my summary is they are very busy, which means they are probably trustworthy because a lot of people go here to get their car's worked on, but unless you are an early morning person it will be hard to get your car serviced :-(

I wrote a negative review a year ago and the Wanker - oops Wachter family (Cole & Bob) bribed me to change it to a positive one; now I'm changing it back. ATCO Transmission screwed me over a second time and tried a third time. The only good thing I can say is they towed my car for free from around the corner in N Hollywood and the second time from Burbank.
They should change their name to Wanker as they rip people off and smile (well at least Bob smiles) while eagerly taking your cash (they refused to take my debit card). My mechanic (NOT ATCO) confirmed the second repair replacing the Slave cylinder ($650) was botched and not done correctly; something as simple as bleeding the lines was never done.
The State of CA Consumer Affairs determined, and put it in writing that they should return all my money for the 1st repair (over $1,000) because how they handled the work was illegal and ATCO didn't follow the rules. My money was never returned and it turned into a court battle and by the time we went to court, 4 months later, I just wanted my car back so I paid ATCO's ransom.
They wanted to rip me off for another $500 to replace the shift cable which my mechanic did for $150.
Contact me to get a mechanic's name who does the job correctly AND STANDS BY HIS WORK; a concept ATCO hasn't grasped.
TOTAL AMOUNT PAID TO ATCO - over $1700.
As far as the comment from ATCO it's incorrect and laughable - steal my car - HA!

I came here from the Group-On crowd. I took my car and my girlfriends car here before, and they gave no hassle or anything. They'll talk straight with you, and are old-school type of guys. 30 minutes for an oil change is fine for me, the local 7-Eleven is right down the street and I usually grab a late breakfast or early lunch while the car is being serviced.
They'll give you a synthetic-blend, which I can't argue about. Can't really say anything negative.
They're worth a shot.

I think that one of the hardest things to do in all of life is to find a good knowlegable and fairly priced mechanic.
They have had plenty of opportunities to screw me or gouge me and they every time have passed each test of character.
I got tired of getting screwed by the dealership mechanics, and had to find a better alternative and these guys are it.
I take my F250 Diesel work truck to them. I take my F350 Gasoline back up work truck to them. I take my daughters little volkswagen commuter car to them (you know I trust them if they are working on my daughters car). I take my motor home to them.
they have never taken advantage of me yet. Knock on wood.

Got a Living Social coupon - 3 appointments of oil change + discounts to some services.
First time I came was great. They saw me on a Sat and did the oil change. I also fixed something they said needed to be fixed in the car...
5 months later, I wanted to change oil again on a Sat, but was told they cannot see me cause it's 1pm and they close at 2pm. Well, I waited a whole week and called them on Fri morning. On their business card it says they close at 6pm on Fri, so I asked to come at 4:30pm, but was told they're too busy and that I should come on Sat. I said I'll call at 4pm and ask again if they think they can see me. Called at 4pm and was told again they are too busy. So I asked to come Sat morning like they had suggested, but was told they were already completely booked, even though earlier in the morning they said they can see me...
I said I REALLY needed to change oil, so the guy on the other side of the phone told me I should go somewhere else (really?). I said I already paid for their services. Eventually, they have agreed to see me that day at 4:30pm. For that, I'll give them 4 stars. Cause they said they couldn't see me and gave me a hard time, but at the end made the effort to help me out and do the oil change.

We have several cars in our household, all of which we take to ATCO for maintenance & repairs. Great brake jobs, great service and always a good deal. Bob Smith BMW wanted 4 times what these guys charged for the same work. A big thumbs up. Efficient and trustworthy, these guys know their stuff.

My experience with these guys was good. I feel like I was charged a fair price for my clutch replacement & I think Ralph knew hat he was talking about when discussing some other issues I should deal with soon. Another thing was a clanking sound that went away when they fixed the clutch. Another shop told me it was the strut mounts & quoted me $1800 to fix it so I was waiting to deal with that. I don't know what they did but they fixed it by accident or something!
To make a long story short, I'm happy with what I got at this shop.

After searching every which way for a shop near Hollywood that could put the old '88 Ford Transvan (small RV) my fianc and I inherited up on a lift, we finally came across Ralph and Atco. We brought it in to have the brakes checked, have it looked at inside and out. I was called promptly and told that it needed new shocks, and a serpentine belt, as well as some other minor work but the brakes were at least 50% good. We went ahead with the job, $1,100 for new front and rear shocks, transmission maintenance and new belt. I picked up the van two days later, it rides so nicely now with new shocks, I can see the brand new serpentine belt when I open the hood, and they even replaced the headlight and a couple other tiny things at no additional charge.
I even checked into the average cost to replace shocks in cars, and for an RV (which generally cost more to work on because you need a special heavy-duty/high-ceiling lift) Atco's price was more than fair. Frank was always friendly when we spoke, and the owner of the place later hired me to do some work for his family. I bring this up because it was only after doing the work that I saw Frank F's review.. and was a little shocked; my experience at Atco was great all the way.
EDIT 9-11-10: Not sure why this reviewer is so sure I work(ed) at Atco. I've never had an auto-body or mechanic-related job in my life. If I had, I'd probably have been able to fix the RV on my own. Anyway, I have an IT company and later, after the repair, the owner of Atco hired my company to fix his daughter's MacBook. Sorry Frank F, that's the closest I've come to "working there".

To change my left light bulb. they cost me $90( Atco said my left bulb was special order... my light bulb? okay... I called Acura service center they said $45) + labor charged $47.50 = 137.50 ...... seriously?
and my left bulb(halogen yellow... didn't even match with my right bulb(halogen blue)... what have you done with my car?? I need to see you guys soon.

I'm always skeptical about auto repair in general, Every shop seems like they are out to make a quick buck. That being said a friend recommended me to this shop and I was pleasantly surprised. The owner Bob was a straight up guy and and didn't BS me with all kinds of upsells. I came in for an overheating problem and he quickly diagnosed the issue and repaired it. All for a very fair price. I'll be back for sure.

I brought my car in for preventative maintenance. When I got it back It ran terrible. After 2 more subsequent trips it appeared to be ok - right up until it overheated and the engine blew. The $1600 in 'preventative' maintenance (timing belt etc) had been done incorrectly causing a myriad of problems including ruining the engine in my car. The new garage took pictures, wrote up a report and encouraged me to go back to them. No thanks. I don't want to go anywhere near this place ever again. I went without a vehicle for 2 weeks and spent an additional $2800 on a new motor, plus the tow, etc etc.

NOTE: This is about their service, did not have actual work done.
I called three times to get an appointment for a simple oil change. I was told people who drive in and emergencies take precedence. (Is this an Emergency Room?). But I had a Groupon and I was determined to make it work. So, following their suggestion, I drove the 10 miles to their shop in a.m. rush hour traffic=40 minutes. The filthy parking lot was full of cars and an employee milled about (might explain part of their backlog), staring at me as I tried to find a place to park. No help there. Finally inside the office, the guy at the cluttered, oily, greasy desk took two (2) phone calls before looking at me. Because I didn't exchange my Groupon for a punchcard, I couldn't have work done. Even after explaining my drive and promising to bring in this punchcard, it was a no go. Really, just as well because looking at the service bays, I didn't want to trust leaving my car there. Really, just drive past and have a look.

These guys are the best. Efficient, straight-shooting and always give you a fair deal. Bob is the owner and head honcho and the place couldn't be run by a better guy. All of the mechanics have a intimate knowledge of cars and truly want to help their customers drive out of their shop with a vehicle in far better shape than when it came in. This place lied about my battery, they said it was dead, I took the battery to another place and it had 86% life to it and i knew it too cause I just replaced the battery a couple of months before hand. These guys acting like they care but their con artist. I would never go here again, and I hope they go out of business for scamming peoples hard earned money.

I've been taking my cars to ATCO Transmission since the 1960's. They do excellent work and stand behind it 100%. Their employees have been there many, many years which speaks highly about a business. I bring all of our vehicles to ATCO and my relatives do too. I refer all my friends as well. I would never take my car anywhere else. I also find their prices to be reasonably priced.

I brought my Lexus RX300 to fix the shaking between 2nd and 3rd gear.Was told its not the comuterbut the transmission needed to be rebuilt completely for $ 2,400.00. Got the car back hours later same problem.I brought the car back 7 times and every time he blamed the computer.I went to Lexus of Van Nuys to have them diagnose the car for $ 130.00.Their report: the computer is O.K. car has a hydraulic problem and recommend replacing the transmission.Went back to Atco with that report,they still deny that any thing is wrong with the trany and blame the computer.So I went to LEON"S Transmission GREAT PEOPLE ,they took the trany apart fixed it,saved all the parts and wrote a report of all the wrongs done by Atco.I had to pay another $ 3,000.00 and $ 130.00 car rental.Been driving the car for a month PROBLEM IS GONE.I have hard evidence he did not rebuilt the trany correctly.He cost me a lot of grieve and money.I am taking them to SMALL CLAIMS COURT.
