Good experience
Being a female one is always on guard to be duped when going to a car repair shop. I found that this shop was reasonably priced, helpful and honest.

I drive a convertible. I couldn't get the convertible to latch securely which left me unable to drive it on the freeway because the top would lift up at speeds higher than 55 mph. It is an electronically controlled top so there was no way to force the top into place.
My boss and her son referred me to Eber's garage. I went there just mindlessly freaking out & emotional because I was supposed to drive to San Clemente the next day to start my vacation. The guys there were so wonderful.... seriously ... saintly wonderful!
They couldn't fit me in to do a complete repair but they took the contraption that secures the roof apart - in order to hand crank the top into place so that I could at least drive it and not worry about the top flying off! They did this without a special tool my car is supposed to come with but didn't - so the resourceful mechanic did it with some other tool (and a prayer - I'd guess).
They didn't charge me anything (and I was so strapped for cash & I had only barely enough $$ for my planned vacation expenses)! Though they were so busy with other cars to work on they spent an hour or more on my car - ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON - and they made it safe to drive.
I will be making an appointment to have them fix it thoroughly so that I can use the top. I will review again once I get that repair completed sometime in the next couple weeks.
Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU to the GREAT guys at Eber's for saving my vacation!!!

Not to be trusted. They told me to drill out a bolt took four hours (they called for authorization at 830 and to pick up at 1130, that's three hours) so when i asked he said, oh i meant about four. I mean c'mon, that's just dumb. Then they said they replaced it with a grade eight bolt, but what they meant was a rusty re-used one. I can't believe how unethical this place is. Don't waste your time and money!!!

Eber's Street Garage did a routine oil change on my 2002 Ford Ranger. They accidentally put the new oil on top of the old oil. This blew out my valve cover gasket, ruined my spark plugs and wires, and I believe the the excess oil which got all over my throttle body ruined the throttle body senor. I'm lucky the head gasket didn't blow out.
I fixed all the problems they caused myself. In their defense I never took it back to them to give them the opportunity to make it right. But, I feel like if you can't do an oil change right what can you do right? They turned a 1 hour $50 oil change into a entire day of me doing repairs and about $400 in parts. Very disappointed with them. I know it wasn't the biggest job but, I wanted it done right. Like I can change my own oil wtf,

Never go here. These guys are a joke. Sent my truck in to fix the power steering and when I got the truck back it was leaking everywhere. Due to my work It took me a few weeks to bring the truck back in so that they could fix it and they told me that the brand new pump was leaking and so were the lines onto the pump. On top of that he told me it was going to cost over 1000 to fix their mistake. Extremely dissapointed and I will never come here again. I was trying to support the local guy in town and this is what happened. Not to mention the staff were jerks when I went to pick up the leaky vehicle. I don't even want to give this one star and am extremely sorry for anyone who doesn't read this review before taking their car to Ebers. 0 stars for Ebers st. Garage.

These guys are super friendly and super smart. The owner, Tony, will go above and beyond to get you the help you need. All of the team that I met there know what they are doing, and you get the sense they want to help and are average people who understand budgets just like you and me. I don't know where to start or who to thank most, since everyone was so helpful, but the whole team - Chris, Doug, Ralph, James, David (hope I'm not forgetting anyone) - were great guys.
New to the city, but I'm happy I don't have to keep looking for new mechanics. I will definitely continue to use Eber's for every car repair I have in the future.

Since the moment I brought my 66 mustang to this garage James and the team have been nothing but helpful, honest and fair with me.
It's trial and error sometimes with these old cars and these guys work with me for a really reasonable price to get to the bottom of any issues the car is having.
As a female and not being that knowledgable on cars I really trust the team here, which has not been my experience in the past with other garages.
Thanks team Ebers ;)

There is a reason I've been coming here for more than 15 years...
Quality people, quality work, reasonable prices. This shop isn't about how much they can get out of a person, but what can we do to take care of their car's needs. I'm grateful for every in there. I have & will continue to recommend them to anyone. Thank you again for all you do!!!

I stumbled up this place by sheer coincidence (my clutch was going out and it was right down the hill). God put this place here for a reason!
This shop is OBeautiful. The service is speedy, the price is at great value and the people and amazing. In a day and age where auto shops try to squeeze as much out of unknowing consumers, it was refreshing to stumble upon an honest car repair shop.
I don't see myself going anywhere else, ever, and would highly recommend this place to everyone!

I love taking my car to Eber's Street Garage and knowing it will be in good hands. They know how to get the job done and everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. I use to take my car too the dealership and just get reamed with an insane bill amount and the people ringing up the bill had to get the mechanics to tell you what was done. At Eber's they all talk to each other so anyone would be able to tell you what's going on. I won't take my car any where else. I trust Eber's Street Garage.

Have gone here a few times with no issue. The other day though after going in and needing a repair I became skeptical and was worried that they were schysters so I had my car towed elsewhere, they were really nice about it and even cut my diagnostic cost in half since I was obviously pretty unhappy.
Turns out what was wrong with my car was exactly what Eber's Street Garage said was wrong with it, so it's good to know that they aren't actually scammers. Looking back they treated me really well especially considering that I was going elsewhere when they knew they were telling me the truth. I definitely recommend these guys now.

I took my car here for smog check and related repairs. My check engine light was on due to possible catalytic converter and oxygen sensor problems. I usually go to Ocean Beach Auto Repair, but Les said he would be unable to determine whether it was an oxygen sensor or catalytic converter problem without some experimentation and incurring costs, and referred me to Ebers St. Garage.
It was $98 to diagnose the car. I think this is a pretty standard rate for diagnosis. Alex said it was best to try to fix the oxygen sensor first and see if it would pass smog. It did. The bill ended up being $431 total for the diagnosis, the oxygen sensor replacement, and the smog check ($58). I was pretty happy considering it would have been more like $800 to have to replace the catalytic converter.

Wow. I went in for a headlight change as I have a beetle and they are complicated to do on my own. After going to Autozone to buy the bulb and bring it so they could replace it, it took about 1/2 hour to complete the job. They were nice and I even paid more than suggested as I was grateful for the time they took to do it.
Two days later I notice my windshield wiper fluid was not coming out. After checking it, I notice the hose was not connected and the fluid was all over the inside of my car. I called the garage to let them know, since it was on the same side and right next to where they were pulling to take out the headlight. I was told to come by in half an hour. I did not have a half hour to wait, due to an appointment I had already scheduled. It being a Friday afternoon, I wanted if fixed before the weekend. After explaining this, the person on the phone says to come by now and somebody will run out to my car to look at it. I let him know I was in the area and will be there in 5 minutes.
I pull in...waiting and waiting. Nobody came out. I go to find somebody and the entire staff is sitting there eating lunch. I was told, not even asked, to wait until they finish eating! I had my own lunch getting cold while waiting for them to finish theirs so they could fix their error. I had no choice but to sit in my car and wait for them to finish their lunch, having plenty of time to begin writing this review. They were very rude. When the mechanic was finished replacing the part he broke putting my headlight in, he walked away to go "finish his lunch", he immediately mumbled something to his coworkers causing them to laugh. I don't think he knew I heard this. The reason I was able to hear this was because I was getting out of my car to take a photo to back up this review. I told them that I was taking it for Yelp. I took the photo and was backing up to leave, when another mechanic came out taking a photo of my car for some reason that I am sure I will find out why soon enough. When my car is keyed or tampered with in anyway, I will know where to look first.
When lunch comes before customer service, there is a problem. I was told to come by. I was not told I would have to wait until they finish their lunch. I have never experienced this type of disrespect before. The fact that I had to go in because of a mistake they made in the first place, then told to wait while they finish eating is unbelievable. It is one thing if I was going in for a new issue, but having to go in because of something they broke and told to wait until they finish eating baffles me!
Had they came out to fix it like the person I spoke with on the phone told me they would, this would not have been an issue. But having to get out of my car to find them, THEN to be told I need to wait until they finish eating is very much an issue. Needless to say I will not be returning nor will I recommend this place to anybody.
Wow!!!! 20 minutes after leaving after they "fixed" the problem, it broke again!! Unbelievable. I called and was told to bring the car back. A mechanic that didn't even work on my car tells me it was already broke before I brought it in the first time, that I am blaming the problem on them! Had the mechanic not been pulling and prying the headlight away for half an hour when attempting to change the bulb, which is less than one inch from the "break", I may have believed him. I would know if it was broke as I use my wiper fluid every single day that I drive. I live by the beach and have to, as there is salt buildup. Today was my first time driving my car and attempting to try the fluid since they changed the bulb. They told me they need to order a part which can take 3 days. I told them I wanted it in writing that they will in fact stick to their word and fix it. Instead here I am sitting in my car as I write this...he even jacked the car up with me in it. I am still being blamed that it was already broke and nobody is telling me anything. I dread to see what other problems will occur from them trying to fix the problem without the part they insist they needed to order.
I have never encountered such poor customer service. First to be told to wait until they finish lunch, then to be told that it is my fault it was broke in the first place!
Update....he just told me to try the fluid and now the car won't start!

Absolute nightmare. Bottom line up front: shoddy job cost me an extra $1,500 in repairs from another garage, may have to go to small claims court to recoup my money.
I've never written a negative review of a place online before, but I hope someone can avoid the terrible situation I'm in.
I took my 2004 Honda Civic in for the kind of maintenance you need with 100,000 mile check-up--new timing belt, water pump, coolant, etc. After paying roughly $1,300 for all the services added in, I figured the money was well spent to make sure my car continues to run for the next 8 years.
Then after two weeks, I noticed a new problem. The car started chugging and having intermittent acceleration--something my car never did before.
My wife and I share one car. So I had to take off work to drop it off, find a friend to caravan with me to the place, and leave it for a day for them to check it out. They told me the problem was a leaky gasket that was spitting oil on my spark plugs causing the engine to misfire. They told me they replaced the gasket, cleaned the spark plugs, and I would be good to go.
Two weeks later, same deal. Bring it back. The garage tells me it's the same deal and they had a defective seal again. Took car for a few days, replaced it, and said I'd be good to go.
Three weeks later, same problem. Frustrated, I took it to another uber-reputable mechanic that specializes in Hondas off of Balboa Avenue near Miramar. He says they jacked up the coolant when they tried to replace it which caused the engine to overheat and a head gasket to get blown. A week and $1,500 later, my car runs perfectly again.
When I go to address the situation with Eber's Street, I get the run around. The owner misses appointments. Very little, if any, response to my calls. I'm at the point that if the garage won't work with me to refund my service, I'm going to have to get involved with lawyers.
I've taken very good care of my car. Nothing's more frustating than having a garage leave your car in worse shape than when they got it.

Alex has always give me a fair price, has used used parts on request, given honest quotes, and has returned my car quickly usually a one day turnaround depending on when I drop it off). I completely trust them to work on my car and I continue to refer them to anyone looking for an amazing mechanic.
I was in a minor fender bender but was worried about driving my car as there was some hood damage. I rolled into the garage at 4:45pm with only 15 minutes before they closed and I had to get to work and Alex & his crew dropped everything to look over my car, give me advice, and help me out. That's what I call customer service.
Both times my car needed to be towed, I paid extra to make sure they brought it to Ebers Street garage and Alex.
I once brought my 94 Toyota Corolla in because it was making a strange noise when I drove it. After a fill diagnostic Alex informed me that there was nothing wrong with my car and since it's old, it's just gonna sound like that. He didn't even charge me for the look over. He could have told me anything was wrong and charged me an arm and a leg to fix it but instead was honest.
And this is why I keep coming back.

This shop seems to do good work and alot of happy customers. One thing in my opion is that they charge way to much for their work. I did a estimate and it came out to almost $200 per hour with a total of $800 and that didnt include all parts needed. Look below to the post where customer paid almost $400 to replace O2 sensor. 2 days before my tire decided to go flat on me, I drove down Ebers St. to go to work and noticed an old fashion red truck sitting on the side of the road. It had a giant sticker that said "Ebers St. Garage". I thought to myself, what an easy name to remember since the garage is on Ebers St.
A few days go by and my tire goes flat, I pulled over to the side and realized what was going on. I still hadn't left OB by then when I remembered seeing that big truck and remember the name.
So I started my trek down Ebers St. on a completely flat tire, pulled into the garage and within 20 mins, they patched the hole a nail had punctured in my tire and fixed the valve stem that had gotten ripped off. It cost me $10 but since they were so nice and started fixing it in under 5 mins of being there, I tipped the guy $10 as well.
The people there were really nice and worked quickly.
Thank you Ebers St. garage!

I took my Nissan for new rotors and brakes and it cost me about $600. When I went to pick it up I saw that the rotors were not turned, which they told me that their paper work shows that they were. So I thought to myself "well they are the professionals, and they should know more than I do." With in two or three days they started squeaking like crazy once they got hot. I ended up taking it back, which they told me that they needed to turn the rotors and change the front brakes because they were bad. Once I got the car back again, with in two days the brakes were squeaking like crazy again. I took it back three more times and they could not find anything wrong with them. So I never went back and now I drive around with cheap squeaking brakes. I'll never go their again!!!

I used to feel that I was getting a fair deal and good service at Ebers, HOWEVER,
the last time I had my car repaired, they did a LOUSY job. I was charged a lot of money for work that was incompetent, unprofessional and my car is in worse shape
than before they "worked" on it. When I picked up my car, they told me which block it was parked on so I had to go and search for my car. The car had parts that were taken apart still on the back seat which was sloppy and absurd for the price that I paid. I felt ripped off and extremely dissapointed with their lack of customer service.

Wow, I was just recommending Eber"s on a talk thread and thought I should review them for all the great years of service. I just read the angry 1 star review and had a good laugh.
Alex is the guy at the front desk, and he's totally cool. He's definately not your typical customer service kinda guy with a fake smile and a yes sir/mam persona, but he epitomizes OB and will take care of you in an honest and straight forward manner.
I run a limo business and when I need something fixed, sometimes that means 10 minutes ago. Eber's has always fit me into to their schedule and had empathy for my dire situations.
I've brought in 8 different vehicles to Eber's over the years and they've taken good care of me each time. It's tough to find a good mechanic and build a trusting relationship with. At Ebers, they've got a whole crew of guys that know how to take care of you.
If you're happy with your car, feel free to bring them a 12 pack as a tip, they'll definately appreciate it.

I live close by, so brought my 98 Corolla in for maintenance. It has over 160k miles and I basically asked them to do a full check.
Only thing they found, apparently, was that my car needed new struts. They wanted $1400 to replace the front and rear struts (along with support called "towers") and that included alignment. That price is robbery. You don't even see any estimates on the internet anywhere for that much to replace struts. Sure enough, I went to my trusty mechanic in North Park (Haigs Complete Auto Repair) and he only charged $776.
Otherwise, they charged me $50 for the full check, but they didn't even tell me exactly everything they checked for, so I'm not even sure they really checked much. If you stick around the office long enough, you can just tell these guys are selective about which customers they genuinely help out.

I have been going to this Garage for 10 years now. My 1998 Toyota4runner is on autocontrol for service needed. Tony (the owner) always takes good care of me and treats me fair. I never feel ripped off like I have been at other places. As a woman it is important to trust a mechanic in a man's world. My 1998 Toyota just passed the smog check again. I love this place! I've been taking my car to James for about 4 years now. He always does a superb job! This last time I took my car in to the dealership because it was under warranty. They found that it wasn't under warranty and charged me $60 for looking at it and wanted to keep it overnight and charge me another $300 + whatever else they needed to get to "fix" the problem. I immediately picked up my car and took it over to Eber's Street. They charged me less than the dealership for the diagnostic which took them 1 minute whereas the dealership said they needed the car overnight to diagnose. James informed me that my car was fine and needed no work at that moment and to save my money. WOW! That never happens!
Every other time i've been there they take great care of my car, are friendly, and tell me the truth about what needs to be done and they DON'T rip me off! Great place! Highly recommend.

First off, I was recommend to them by a good friend. I generally try to do almost all off my repairs on my own and finally I took my car into them to finish what I started.
One of the best experiences I have had with a mechanic. Not only were they honest, but when they encountered a hiccup, they called me first to explain the situation rather than try to tackle it and possible hit a major road block. To me this is very valuable as well as important.
I would return again, all of the mechanics are great guys as well!

This place is so rad! I got there 10 minutes before closing time, needing to get my drive belts replaced. Ralph (aka Sonny) was more than happy to grab all his tools and get me squared away in no time. He was so informative and polite, and he even let me watch so I could learn to do it for next time. The guys at Eber's Street had no problem taking care of all my needs even though I was there until almost an hour after closing. When I went to pay, Ralph topped off all my auto fluids without my knowledge. After all was done, I was asked to pay a measly $30. I can't believe how good of an experience I had here. I've been taking my Suzuki Samurai to Eber's Street for 21 years now and they have gone out of their way to do whatever it takes to get the job done. There has been a basic honesty and integrity in all the dealings I have had with them. Several times over the years they have not charged me for things that other garages might have and they have always tried to give me the fairest price for what I needed. ser-en-dip-i-ty : The occurrence and development by chance
in a happy or beneficial way.
Last Saturday, while yard sale hopping in Ocean Beach, my 50cc
Vino scooter died. Wouldn't turn over. Too far to walk it home--
was considering a tow, somehow.
Then looked across the street & saw the Ebers St. Garage (for cars).
Decided to walk Vino over & leave it 'til I could find someone to fix it.
Well, they said a guy that would be in Monday might work on it for me.
And, got a free ride home from them!
Okay... Problem diagnosed & scooter ONLY needed a Spark Plug.
Because my speedometer had died a while back, didn't realize it
was past due for a tune-up. Sooo, Alex there put in a new plug &
fixed the speedo -- And, they even picked me up to get it back !!
Vino's now good as new. They'll get my business from now on.
Moral of story: It pays to have bad luck once in a while.
(And, be near Ebers Street Garage when it happens)

Great guys at this garage. Pushed an old car in that suddenly wouldn't start. Firstly, they saw us pushing and ran out to help us get it onto their lot. They ran a diagnostic which they said would cost $120. The result was something wrong with the immobilizer, a part of the electrical system that they couldn't fix without calling in an out of shop expert. They spent some time trying to reset the entire computer, but to no avail. Didn't want to dump any more money into the old car, so we just got it towed away. They ended up not charging us a dime, not even for the diagnostic, since they couldn't fix it in their shop. Throughout the process, they kept us up to date with information and options. I highly recommend Ebers Street Garage based on this first impression.

I went to Eber's garage - freaking because I was supposed to drive to San Clemente the next day to start my vacation - and the guys there were so wonderful. They couldn't fit me in to do a complete repair but they took the contraption that secures the roof apart - to hand crank the top into place so that I could at least drive it and not worry about the top flying off! They didn't charge me anything for that - though they were slammed with other cars to work on and they spent an hour or more on my car. I still have to make an appointment to have them fix it thoroughly so that I can use the top. I will review again once I get that repair completed sometime in the next couple weeks. Thank you to the wonderful guys at Ebers for saving my vacation!!!

We have been going to this place for many years. They are honest and competent. They will tell you what they think is wrong with your car beforehand and tell how much the service and parts should be. They will also warn you that they might be wrong and it might be something else and then it should cost this much, etc.. But before they do any unauthorized work, they will call you. (In other words, as I said, they are honest.) They aren't the cheapest place around but the honesty and competence is worth it, in our opinion. Much luck to them in the future!

The best garage in San Diego. These guys are so busy they don't have time ( or the heart ) to rip you off.
