Worst Mechanic Ever

Don't go here. I have gone here for the last six years because I can walk from my house. I will never go back. I have spent over $5000 in the last three years on them trying without success to figure out why I'm on my third catalytic converter. They refused to honor the warranty without me spending a minimum of a thousand dollars fixing other things. On the third converter, when they told me I needed more repairs before they would honor the warranty, I took it somewhere else for a second opinion. They told me there was nothing wrong with my car except that the wrong type of catalytic converter had been put on...twice. I told them this and thought they'd be happy that I figured out the problem when they couldn't after three years and $5000. They were rude and told me that wasn't true and that my car was junk. (It isn't) It was my mechanic that was the problem the whole time. Not my car. I am terrified because my car's there right now getting the correct converter after quite a struggle. They are even refusing to warranty the correct part this time. I can see why, they won't be making any money off me then. I wonder if the service engine soon light will come back on on the two block drive home like last time. I only gave them a whole star because it wouldn't let me give 0 or a half star. You have been warned.

A mystery light came on in my car so I called Summit. They asked if I was close, it turned out it was my coolant. I took it in and they refilled it for me, no charge! Five minutes later I was out the door, they even asked if I needed help backing out of the garage. Wonderful, reliable and trustworthy!

The owner just sent this email to me:
__________________________________
I am sorry that you had such a bad experience at my business. If you would call me at 260-482XXXX I would like to find out exactly what happened and who took care of your service and try to make it right.
You have it wrong about the owner being a man, I am the owner and my name is Patricia Bxxxxxxxxxx and xxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I would also like to find out about the employee that you said worked for Sears before working here because I don't have an employee here that looks like how you described this employee.
Again, I like my customer's to have a pleasant car repair experience and do not tolerate employee's installing parts on vehicles without approval so give me a call and I will see what I can do to resolve your bad experience with my business.

I called her up, and the owner found my service records on one of her old computer systems.
She was able to tell me that the year that my van was serviced. It was the year 2000! She bought the business in 2002. The mechanic was not there at that time!
Sears Corporation will not give out a reference on its former employees. The threat of a lawsuit, telling people what kinds of things he did would have been grounds They did not know what kinds of things he did wile he worked there.
All I had to do was to tell the owner to go over to the store, where he worked at, and have him was to ask the automotive employees for a reference on him.
This would have gotten my money back, and he would have been terminated.
You may not know it by looking at me, but I donate monthly to the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission. And this was the way I used to look at him. He did have one friend though, "Scott O". When I first started working at Sears, I would hear stories about "Scott". Thinking it was some sort of a shop joke? The time he misdiagnosed "battery, alternator, or starter" problems, and was not allowed to do that anymore. Or the time he took a pressurized grease gun. And started filling up a front rack ball joint. One of the mechanics told him it was full of grease, and he should stop. He didn't, it exploded, and Sears ended up replacing it. Finally the act that got "Scott" fired. He was operating a tire-changing machine. One of the bars used flipped up and hit him in the chest, breaking one rib. Sears had to pay for an ambulance to drive him to the hospital. About a week and a half later, they called up the hospital. Since he was being paid for being off. And they found out that he wasn't in the hospital. "Scott" got terminated.
About a month later "Scott" got a better job, at Tomkinson Dodge on Illinois road.
He drove a car up on a rack, lifted it up. The car rolled half way off
I think both employees had the same skill level.
*NOTE* Yes I would take my car there. It is a better choice than any Midis muffler shop, Tuffy auto, or especially a Jiffy Lube. These places tend to hire unskilled people, (Like the two described in my review).Or have a high turn over rate!

My power steering went out right before Christmas 2014, I took it to Summit City Car Care to have the power steering replaced. Picked it up after Christmas and drove it home, the whole way home it has the loud whining noise as I accelerate and turn the steering wheel, very loud. We take the car back in to express our concern and the mechanic tells us that "It's probably some old power steering fluid still built up in there, once you work through that, the noise will stop". 1. Why was the power steering not completely drained of the old fluid? 2. It's now almost Christmas 2015 and the same whining noise is still happening and hasn't gotten any quieter. I have removed fluid from the reservoir and added new fluid with leak protection to see if that would help at all and nothing. I am pretty sure they installed a junk power steering. Now it sounds like a drive a clunker around town. Couldn't be more un-impressed with the work done or the response to the noise the car makes since driving it off their parking lot.

I am a local and have been using this establishment for many years. Had my vehicles in their shop at least a half dozen times, and am always grateful they are in my neighborhood. I have NEVER had a problem with any of their service, and intend to make another appointment today for a leaky radiator. My neighbor was having trouble with his truck engine vibrating an I suggested he visit their shop. They located a bad coil on one of his spark plugs and had him fixed in minutes.

A month ago, I took in a 1999 Chrysler Concorde for a pre-buy inspection and told them that if I buy the car and it turns out as they diagnosed it, I would write them a good review. Well, they inspected the car, I bought it, and it turned out exactly as they diagnosed it, so I am writing them a good review. David and his son work for Jim, who is the owner. I found all three gentlemen to be competent and honest. I recommend them highly.

Summit City Car Care is honest, fairly priced, and knowledgeable with every vehicle I have brought in. They take the time to explain repairs, future service needs, and know I can trust them. I found Summit City Car Care after getting fed up with dealer service departments and have been a loyal customer since 2007. Always very impressed with the service, knowledge, and price!
