I brought my 2001 VW Beelte in...

I brought my 2001 VW Beelte into Jones Racing describing the following issue: "The car is shifting heavily, jerking into first and second gear, and the low coolant light comes on despite the fact that there is coolant in the reservoir". All of my interactions have been with Jerry Jones the owner. After keeping the car for two days without working on it, he called to say the problem is a broken seal on the transmission with a loss of fluid and two broken CV joints. $350 parts plus labor. We authorize the repair, and two days after this we get another call from him saying: He assumed to the problems were separate (coolant light and shifting). Without checking the cooling system he fixed the transmission seals and CV joints, refilled the transmission with fluid, and test drove the car. The car seemed to drive perfectly. When he checked the cooling system he saw a "Frothy milkshake" of coolant and transmission fluid. Checking the transmission again he saw that this mess was now worked completely into the transmission. He claimed that I should have told him that there was transmission fluid in the coolant (I'm not a mechanic and would have no way of telling one brown liquid from another) and because of -my- over sight the car is essentially dead. It will cost more to fix the car than it is worth. If I wanted to fix it anyway it would cost us -at least- $2500. I took some time to look into the problem. A broken intercooler can cause the transmission fluid to back up into the cooling system. While an irritant, the cooling system can be flushed and brought back to normal. Apparently the opposite almost never happens. Because of the pressure on the transmission side, coolant rarely back tracks into the transmission. While it can, in very usual situations, mix on both sides the serious problem with the transmission was most likely caused by Jerry refilling the transmission and driving the car without first checking the intercooler and the cooling system. A few days after making the repair I went in to speak with Jerry in person. When I suggested that he may have made a mistake he blew a gasket. He accused me of insulting him and told me to take my car and leave; after paying him the $350 we owed him for the parts. He then stormed off refusing to speak with further. We payed the $350 to get the car back, and drove it home, with it still jerking into first and second gear. I now have a car in worse condition than when brought it to Jones Racing, needing repairs that will cost more than the car is worth; with a mechanic that refuses to work on it. Avoid Jones Racing.

Horrible customer service. I would not even go near that place, ever!!! Do not waste your time!!! That man Jerry should get fired, and if he is the owner then he should close the store and take some customer service classes !!! How can you tell a female customer to get out when all she is doing is asking a question about her car. Even his employees/colleagues complain about his bad attitude. Bad service, even at its best ....

My parents purchased a SUV from Jones Racing, Clermont, FL. Here is their story: Jerry Jones, owner of Jones Racing Clermont, FL, who advertises as one of the best auto mechanics in Central FL. Mis-represented the mechanical condition of this vehicle from the start. He told us that he "had $3000.00 tied up in engine repair and this included all new valves in engine." He led us to believe the engine was sound. Hubby did not make it home (less than 10 mi. away) before the check engine light came on. Too late in the day to address this, so we parked it in our driveway. The very next day hubby started the engine and there was an overwhelming gasoline smell. He immediately drove the vehicle straight to the Ford dealership. We had to pay $89.95 to have the engine checked. Ford found it to be a leaking fuel injector that was spraying gasoline onto the fire wall and leaking down onto the exhaust system, making the vehicle a potential fire bomb. Ford dealer advised we have the vehicle towed (destination: back to Jones Racing) because it was unsafe to drive. Mister Jones said he would replace the injector. Three hours later Mr. Jones called and said the vehicle was ready. We picked up the vehicle and, again, hubby did not make it home before the check engine light came on. At this point (not trusting to return to Jones Racing) we returned to Ford to have the engine re-diagnosed. They informed us that someone had broken the PCV valve and also that the EGR valve was bad. Both of these valves control the vehicles emissions...the fumes that come out of your tailpipe. When Ford informed us of their results, hubby called Mr.Jones and relayed information to him. At this point we felt taken advantage of but more importantly, that me and my husband were put into extremely unsafe conditions by driving the vehicle off of Jones Racing premises to begin with. We told Mr. Jones we wanted to return the vehicle and be reimbursed the cash purchase price. He responded to my hubby "Yeah, well the people in hell want ice water" and slammed the phone down. We now have to pay the Ford dealer $350.00, just to make this vehicle safe to drive. Do not do business with Jones Racing, Clermont, FL. Yes I have filed with better business bureau.

Jerry has been the mechanic for me and my family for about 15 years. He has allways done a good job and has allways been fair and honest. I would recommend him without reservation.

I've been going to Jones for years and I have never had a problem with his service. The quality of the work done has always been very high and he has never charged me for parts/services I do not need. The owner is a very fair man I don't know what this last guy is talking about. I defiantly recommend, him especially over any other mechanic in the Clermont/Orlando region.
