Although I've known of Kelemen's for years and knew they had a good reputation I'd never used them till recently. Why? I always drove American cars. Now, however, my wife has a Hyundai. For some INSANE reason, while Hyundai recommends (owner's manual) 5W-40 oil for my twin-scroll turbo equipped Sonata 2.0T, Hyundai doesn't carry this grade oil. No one does! (Except in turbo diesel TRUCK oil.) The closest you can get is 0W-40. Anyway... John... the owner of Kelemen's... is the auto advice columnist for our local weekly. So... I called him. Do you know what he told me? He said, "com'on over... I've got it!" Yep. Since he specializes in foreign cars he buys, uses, and supplies the 5W-40 full synthetic that my car runs on - and that yours might run better on as well if it's a high performance turbo-boosted engine! (Check your owner's manual.) Anyway... that alone sold me - the attention to detail... the doing something RIGHT! John's prices are fair. The guy is HONEST. And he's MORE than simply competent. What more can you ask?

John Kelemen has restored my faith in mechanics and used car salesmen. Recently my wife and I moved and our cars were not worth fixing . John realized our situation and basically came to our rescue by finding us 2 cars that are in excellent shape and mechanically sound. I used to worry every time my wife left for work fearing she might break down. John worked out a deal that put us back on the road at a price that is unheard of. I was looking for a Subaru sin...

I was looking for a Subaru since I replaced my wife's car over the summer with a 2002 Subaru Outback and love that car. Mr. Kelemen came highly recommended from my brother-in-law's mechanic (since he doesn't deal with many Subaru's). So I called John and he had a very clean, well maintained 2006 Subaru Forester with good mileage at a good price for sale. I bought the car about a month ago and am VERY happy with the 2006 Subaru as well as having John as our mechanic now for BOTH of our Subaru's. One thing that really impressed me was how John inspected our 2002 Outback (which he had not maintained since we bought it from a third party) and wrote out a plan for getting the car back up to date with the scheduled maintenance as well as seeing and explaining potential problems and prioritized them. The work will be done in order of safety & priority. John has all of the specialized tool and instruments to diagnose and repair Subaru's as well as Volvos, BMWs, and other foreign and domestic cars. I highly recommend John.

Great place! Brought my car in for an inspection and my tires were completely worn down on the inside of the front tires, you couldn't see it from the outside. The mechanics took the time to show me and explain the issue instead of just telling me what I "needed." They were able to order me new tires and send my car out for an alignment (I did not have to do anything - they took care of all of it). I had my car back within 24 hours at a reasonable cost. I am definitely going to return for future car work.

Warranties are up on my cars so I needed to find a local mechanic. Saw John recommended so I gave it a shot. John's repair was more thorough than my car dealer and came in around the same as their estimate. Plus he has an awesome dog, Ollie, and some vintage Grateful Dead posters for sale. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!! Posted the below on FB over 5 years ago and clutch is still working perfectly. December 30, 2009 "DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO KELEMAN AUTO IN CENTRAL VALLEY!! I went there to get a flat tire fixed and muthafuka is trying to scam me into replacing my clutch. He went as far as to dump some shit on my engine that stinks when it burns off trying to tell me "that's the smell of the clutch going.""

The search is over!! First I was greeted with a warm smile by the receptionist, Michelle.Then instead of being charged for something that might fix the problem, John, the owner, wanted to wait to get a more accurate diagnosis. I'm sure we have all experienced being charged for something to "fix"the problem only to have it reoccur and then pay for something else. Sound familiar? I've taken two of my cars there and John even gave me a loaner car to get around while my car was being serviced.Never had that before & I've been to quite a few places! Ed, one of the technicians there, was happy to answer my questions.We all look for a car technician that is honest, but some technicians honestly play too much guess work with our cars( and money).Here you get honest,competent & quality work he stands by.

AMAZING!!!!
Our car broke down on our trip up to vermont about two miles away from John's auto repair shop, and honestly, we could not have been more lucky to break down near him! Our oil tank had a major leak - John was amazing. He found the part we needed locally, lent us a car to go pick it up, and stayed up late to install it so we could get back on the road AND he did it all SUPER fast! Plus he has an amazing waiting room : ) with tea and coffee and an adorable dog! He was super fair with the pricing - if not TOO fair. We were very thankful for the help!

Fair price, quality, and efficient. I needed a fix after busting a wheel bearing when I was in the area on Christmas vacation this year and found this place on Yelp myself. Went into John's shop at about 10AM, went on a test drive to diagnose the problem, the part was ordered, received, and put on all before 2:30PM that same day. Probably could have been done sooner, but I just went back to my Grandfather's up the road to wait and there was no immediate rush on my end apart from getting my car back that day.
Not many shops these days operate with transparency like this, where I was actually able to feel the wheel shake after my car was up and watched the part being ordered so I saw the various part and price options. That coupled with a thorough description gave me confidence in what I was paying for.
My car is a 2007 Ford Focus, and though they brand as "foreign car repair" they were more than capable of offering quality service for my problem.

We were driving on the NYS Thruway back home to NC from NY with our 4 year old and 2 labs, when our jeep wouldn't go above 40 miles per hour, with many instrument panel lights flashing and then stalled. We had been having problems with it while on our trip to NY and had brought it to 3 different places over the last 10 days, including a jeep dealership where we were told the problem was fixed and "no codes" were showing up. While on the side of the Thruway, I called a few jeep dealerships nearby who told us they wouldn't be able to help us. We took a chance going to John Keleman auto repair without a phone call.
John and his crew helped us right away and diagnosed the problem easily. We had to wait several hours for the part to arrive so they loaned us a car to go to lunch. Once the part arrived it took very little time to install and we were very relieved to be on our way again. Thank you John Keleman auto repair!

Bad experience! Thought he was honest at 1st. Although he did fix the initial problem with my car after $1700, he created a new problem, the car stalled @ every light. Brought the car back 3x's to fix the stalling problem. Was told the car was "all" fixed, & was test driven. Said he was, "highly protective" of his customers. Great. On the way home, the car presented the same "stalling" problem. Called back after the 3rd time left to be fixed. At this point, John placed the blame on me, the customer. Stating, "that I did not leave the car for an ample amount of time to be looked at". If you have an Audi, any kind, do not bring it to john kelleman bc he has no interest in dealing w this type of car. He states they're unfixable, yet there are many ppl on this Earth that have been trained & educated to do maintenance on this brand of vehicle. He should have told me from day 1, he does not work on Audi's bc he doesn't have the full knowledge to fix the common problems they present. He, like most mechanics, use their complicit ways to entice customers, knowing nothing about cars into entrapment, spending alot of $ with nothing in return. Also, to use profanities while speaking to customers & then to have your ass crack hanging out when customers pull up, is highly unprofessional.
