Do NOT us this shop. Repair was done incorrectly, and very slowly and caused additional damage and cost to me. Had to tow my car to the dealer after the part fell of that was fixed by this shop. The owner Steve did NOTHING to investigate, resolve, or rectify this situation. If I could I would rate lower. Save yourself time, money and aggravation avoid at all costs. Pitiful execution of a repair shop.

Back in August of 2010, I bought a convertible Smart Fortwo - it's one of those tennsy tiny European cars. When I bought it, I also bought a four year extended warranty, figuring that the car would be expensive to repair, since the only dealers which serviced it are Mercedes dealers, which also makes the Smart. Over the years, I had a high frequency of engine light issues and the dealers basically told me it was this little thing (gas cap) or that little thing (computer error) and did nothing. They lied - they didn't want to fix the major issues with the car under the terms of the extended warranty - they wanted to gouge me. The worst offender was Loeber Motors which kept my car for two weeks toward the end of the warranty only to tell me it was the gas cap. Within two weeks of the warranty expiration, the car overheated and stalled, and the shop I towed it to told me it need a new engine - dealer cost - $12,000. Of course the car wasn't worth that much. Then I remembered that during the frustrating process of shuttling the car back to Loeber Motors to diagnose the engine light someone mentioned I might take the car to Auto Cars Imports in Northbrook. I should have listened and I will not make that mistake again! Auto Cars Imports and their manager Steven are a rarity - an honest shop that does good work for a reasonable price. They rebuilt half the engine in the Smart (valves, head gasket) for $1800 and found the issue that caused the engine light - a loose wire that caused engine misfiring. Steven also has a great "bedside" manner; it is a pleasure to deal with him. Auto Cars Imports has made me reconsider my thoughts that I might never own another German car, now that I know there's someone who can service it for a fair price.

I moved to Glenview 5 months ago and found Auto Car Imports to work on my BMW. ACI is one of those places that you can go to because you really trust them, the fact that they have been around for generations is a testament to that. Steve is very easy to talk to and really likes to get to know his clients. I highly recommend over any other mechanics in the area.

Steve's been working on my cars for over 10 years. If you care about your car and your wallet, do not bring your car anywhere else. Honest, thorough, better work and way better pricing than the dealers.

After a very difficult experience at a dealership, I found Steve at Auto Car Imports. I needed a second opinion so I brought my car in. Steve took his time to carefully diagnose the problem. He performed the work, tested the vehicle and realized there was still an issue with the shifting (that I probably wouldn't have noticed). He re-ordered the part, installed and tested it again until it was perfect. He even paid for the extra day of car rental due to this.
Steve and his crew are knowledgeable, honest and very reasonable with pricing. I am very glad I found them and will continue to be a customer of theirs. I highly recommend them.

After bouncing around with an issue that had no solution at a few other shops, including a dealer; Steve, Linda and Adam found what was ailing my beloved GLI.
It was a step-by-step process that replaced a few things, and while none of them were inexpensive, I finally have a car that is running correctly. We had to be patient for a part to come from Canada, who knew VWoA had such a tough time managing their parts inventory. In the end, worth the wait and I'm back to having a happy car. Glad I found ACI through my local Chamber of Commerce.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP
I bought a used car from Steve with pictures he had sent me while I was out of town. Not only had he not told me that the inside of the car was in terrible conditions ( I had asked and the pictures where hiding that), but he agreed to fix it and the never did despite my calls, my visits.
Very unprofessional, always giving excuses for not doing things right,

Steve is an expert fixing and repairing cars! I have been coming to his shop for almost twenty years and I have always been treated with courtesy and respect. He offers drop off and pick up service and also has an amazing body shop for repairs that I used when I had hail damage. A simple tune up or rebuilding of an engine, Steve is your guy!

I would highly recommend. Auto Cars Imports is reliable, honest and convenient.
The owner and his crew did great work when I brought in my Honda which had some severe brake problems due to long neglect. They fixed the problems at a fair price and were very honest in letting me know that rest of the car was in good shape given its age.
On top of the quality work, they are very convenient and friendly. They picked my car up and dropped it off at the Glenview Metra train station parking lot. It could not have been easier!!
A friend sent me here and I would not take my cars anywhere else.

My experience was really great and I'm so glad that I actually found a mechanic that I can trust.. I was referred by my brother-in-law to come here for my Audi A-4 because he said that they charge much less than an Audi dealership and that they're experts with import cars. In the past year I have wasted a lot of money taking my car to several different mechanic shops which all charged me and never fixed my coolant leak. No one could figure out what was wrong with my car and it had been making me crazy filling my car with a bottle of coolant every month.
So then I came here.. and my experience was the epitome of GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! When I dropped off my car they gave me a ride back to my house which was 15 miles away and dropped off my car at my house when it was done. But a week after getting my car back I noticed that I had the same coolant leak. I called Steve, the owner, and he told me to bring it back. He paid for me to have a rental car for a couple days, fixed my leak at no charge and gave me back my car in perfect condition. I think that they are the best auto shop around!

Aside from being a family business, these guys know, and exemplify, the value of honesty ever since our relationship began two years ago...after they cleaned up the costly and erroneous repairs of another shop who took advantage of my family's vulnerability in auto repairs. The prices are spot-on, and in addition to standing behind their work, the place a value on customer satisfaction - and know exactly what happens when customers are NOT satisfied. That said, Auto Cars knows that reputation and reliability work in tandem, which is why I will continue to refer everybody I know to this great shop.
