User Rating: 5 out of 5 stars by d.gremaud 10/16/2011 Larry keeps my vehicles running almost like new. I say "almost" because my "newer" vehicle is a 1993 model that my family rides in. Larry always lets me know before hand what needs to be done with a signed estimate. The quality of work is top notch. Johnson's Automotive 24,000 mile or 2 year warrantee is unmatched by anybody that I know. Larry gets all of my automotive work. That way I'll never have to use Larry's tow truck.

This guy is a SCAM! he charged...

This guy is a SCAM! he charged me $174 for oil change and inspected my car with a scanner that I did not give permission to perform and now my engine light is on. Apparently I am the first to write a review, this is hard to believe F- !!! SCAM

Our 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora overheated while traveling north on I-39 near El Paso, Illinois on Saturday August 6, 2016. I pulled to the side of the freeway, called AAA, called 911, and waited for the tow truck late in the day on a hot sunny afternoon. Skipping details of the stress that this event was causing to my wife, we eventually were able to contact Larry Johnson at Johnson Automotive initialing seeking a rental car so that we could complete our 280 mile trip back home. It was about 7:00 PM Saturday night, Larry informed me that although he didnt have any rental cars available, he would be willing to inspect and repair my car that night if I could have it towed to his shop in Fairbury, Illinois. That was within the 100 mile radius limits of our AAA contract so thats what we did. Larry quickly determined that we needed a replacement water pump and set about ordering parts. We left the Aurora at his shop, he drove us to a nearby hotel for the night and he proceeded to complete the repair on Sunday August 7, 2016. So, we were literally stranded with no place to go until Monday morning without Larrys help. It was not an easy repair as the water pump had severe damage requiring replacement of the Cam Pulley and Belt Tensioner Assembly but everything was completed by late Sunday afternoon and we were back on the road again after Larry delivered the repaired vehicle to the nearby hotel that we were staying in. I rate Larrys performance as 5 Star for service, assistance, and helping us every step of the way.

While driving to Chicago on a HOT 95 degree, Friday afternoon, my low tire pressure light came on my dash, all of a sudden i felt a vibration on the left side of my car, I headed for the side of I55, before I could get off of the road, they was a horrible vibration in my steering wheel. I finally got pulled over and went I got out of my car, I smelled burning rubber, looked at left rear tire and it was SHREDDED all the way around the tire, I could see the tire rim thru the tire. I called my insurance company and they checked for towing companies in the area, and by reading the advertisement for Johnson Automotive, she suggested that this company was the best to deal with, and she was right! I waited maybe 20+ minutes, but when he arrived, he was polite and took care loading my VW Beetle onto the towing bed. I assumed that Johnson's would repair my tire, but he told me that they did not have my tire size in stock, so onto Walmart in Pontiac we went. My towing guy stayed with me at Walmart until he knew that I was taken care of and that they had a tire that would fit my car. It was a pretty scary situation to have car problems on a very busy Interstate, but the promptness and care from Johnson's Automotive certainly put me at ease after they arrived! Pass the word to your friend's that travel......(hopefully, they never have an incident on the highway), but if they live anywhere near Fairbury, Il.....have them give Johnson's their business! I certainly would, if I lived in the area!

As a first time customer who HATES dealing with car issues, I actually didn't mind this place! I walked in and was given a personal survey, asking questions about how Larry could improve my visit. I was offered flavored coffee, which was delicious, and sat on a comfy couch while waiting for my oil change. The receptionist was friendly and engaged me in conversation while I waited. Larry went above and beyond with my maintenance, and he found small problems that nobody has ever mentioned before. I am going back tomorrow for another repair. I am truly happy with my service!

AVOID this place, if you don't want to be rip off by Larry - an owner of "Johnson Automotive Service & Repair" . He replaced serpentine belt, tensioner, idler pulley and coolant hose. Total cost? $1118.47 including labor $500.00 (!). Just go somewhere else, e.g. Pontiac, IL. Larry, shame on you!

I was just back in Larry's shop the other day needing a tire patch and he was courteous, incredibly prompt, and effective (aka the tire is still goin strong, 600 miles later). I've had multiple experiences now with Larry and Johnson automotive ranging from a basic oil change to a timing belt replacement. I even called him one day and he took 20 minutes out of his schedule to help advise me on used cars - none that were sold by him, meaning he wouldn't get a direct financial benefit, but he talked with me about it anyways until I felt more comfortable and informed. I appreciate the hard work and honesty I have experienced here. Highly recommended.
