LOVE this establishment! If you're looking for a TRUE mechanic to work on your car, foreign or domestic, here is where you go. They are located close enough to public transportation, so you can still get around if you need to leave your vehicle. He's the type of old school mechanic who will get into your car elbow deep and not rely on prefabricated parts to get the job done. He doesn't overcharge for the work and is honest in his assessments. I went there for an estimate on an exhaust system replacement after being quoted an outrageous price from another mechanic. Well, the individual who recommended Pleasant Car Care did not exaggerate the service. Not only did I pay a lot less, he let me know what future parts I'd need to consider TWO YEARS from now! This is a man who knows cars and clearly enjoys his work. Go here for dependable and honest service!

I had a great experience at Pleasant St Auto. Pleasant Car Care recently replaced the front ball joints and related suspension parts on my Honda Accord. Work was excellent, price very fair. Also, got 4 new tires. Finally, a trustworthy shop!
I've taken my very aged Jeep to many a shop, paid thousands in repairs, quite a few of which were totally unnecessary (two new radiators in 3 years?).
I had kept a card from Pleasant Car Care that I must have picked up years ago, and when I moved to Watertown, called them to get a consult on some issues my vehicle was having.
Steve is very accommodating and clearly knows his stuff. He's respectful (which is not always the case when you're a woman getting auto repairs done) and he charges very reasonable rates for the work.
I've had a rusted-out rim replaced and my leaking engine repaired here, and he even fixed my rusty exhaust pipe that made my car sound like a locomotive rumbling down the street.
He also gets things done fast. I need my car for pretty much everything now that I'm in the 'burbs, so that makes a difference.
Will be bringing my car to Pleasant Car Care for all future repairs and recommending them to others!

Steve helped me figure out what I needed to do for my subaru and he was very patient and detailed when i asked a million questions. He helped me solve an ongoing issue for way cheaper and better service than anywhere else could have. And he advised against the pricy service items the dealership said I needed, while also lowering the heat shield for me. Awesome experience.

I owe these guys! I showed up at their shop about an hour before close on a Friday. It was 95 degrees and even hotter in the garage but Steve and his team went above and beyond for me to get it fixed so I could drive to Vermont that night. They are friendly, fast and honest. I live just down the street and have walked by Pleasant Car Care plenty of times. I own a '05 civic and always see Hondas at this garage. One day, I was having engine issues on my way home from work and somehow managed to get my vehicle to this shop. I cannot tell you enough how happy I am to have done so. These guys are fan-freakin-tastic! Steve was professional right from the start and made me feel about as comfortable as I could be having shared with me his knowledge of Hondas. These guys immediately diagnosed a poor camshaft sensor and had it replaced that very afternoon. Total cost came to $300 which is a bit on the high side compared to the national average on
($146-$220), BUT the convenience factor + friendly service + time of repair made it worth it. If you're looking for a good, quality Honda vehicle repair place, this is it.

This morning I woke up to my car refusing to start. I had recently moved to Watertown and had yet to find an automotive repair shop to give my business to. Not knowing what to do I called Pleasant Car Care. I told them the situation and where the car was. Without hesitation they offered to go to the car within the hour to see what they could do.
Just as promised they showed up to my house within an hour and had my car started. Told me I needed a new battery and that was that!
It's nice to have people right around the corner that do great work with humanity and dignity.

I've been using Steve and his team in Watertown for almost 2 years now and he's been nothing short of amazing. I came upon them from a referral from a coworker and have been pleased in all my dealings with them. I brought my car in because the heat wasn't working. They called to tell me it was a cracked engine block, which could be very expensive. But, they said that it may be covered under warranty (even after almost 10 years due to a recall) and to bring it to the dealer. I appreciate their integrity and expertise. I went for an oil change today. I spoke with someone on the phone, and when I was hesitant to come in because they couldn't see me for an hour, they won me over with "we'd really like to help you out"
Oil change was about $30, I waited about 30-40 minutes for the oil change and then they checked out a problem with my check engine light for free. That was really nice. They told me what was wrong but didn't pressure me to fix it right then (because it wasn't dangerous at all).
Steve the guy at the front desk also politely responded to a woman who was trying to barter with him on the price for work on her car. I was a bit shocked to see someone bartering, but he smiled and handled it 100% friendly.
It really was extremely pleasant as the name implies!

I drive a Toyota/Scion XA and I took my car here for several repairs and oil changes. They fixed a wheel bearing and the price was reasonable because I asked for the after-market part. They fixed an obnoxious sound on my car unrelated to the wheel bearing that the Toyota dealer mechanic and another mechanic elsewhere didn't know how to fix (for free!). They repaired a hole in the exhaust, changed some belts, and fixed the brakes. I think they are a very reasonable about their prices especially if you let them know you got a different quote somewhere else. Always get at least 2 opinions about what's going on with your car! I took mine to the best rated mechanics on yelp for diagnostics and used Pleasant with positive results.

Absolutely wonderful experience. I'm extremely touchy when it comes to anyone other than myself working on my car, however I felt total trust in dropping my car off here. The guys there were able to get creative in fixing a skid plate (on a modified/car that sees track/race time) and all with extremely reasonable prices. I also brought another car there to which they gave honest feedback, and were extremely pleasant to boot. Great knowing they are around the block. Any Subaru owner should feel very welcome to take their car there.

After three years of receiving service from Steve, Matt, and all the other guys at Pleasant Car Care, I thought it was time to reiterate that this continues to be the most honorable service station that I have ever gone to. You are received by a smile, you get careful, considerate explanations of what needs to be done once the car has been checked out, I have never been talked down to (as a woman), and I always feel that the price I am charged is honest, if not more so. Although my car is now 12 years old, I hesitate to buy a new car, because I would much rather be serviced by Pleasant Car Care than whatever dealer sold me a new car. These guys are the best!

We brought our PT Cruiser there after 3 other folks couldn't fix the problem with an apparent fuel line leak. Steve kept us up to date on the progress and they were able to fix the problem once and for all. They also worked magic on our Kia Sedona which has never sounded or driven so good. All our repairs there came in exactly at the quoted price, were done when they said they would, and were guaranteed (which we've not needed since the problems have stayed fixed). Steve, Charlie, Matt and the crew are friendly and trustworthy. My only regret is not finding them 7 years ago.

This is my first Yelp review. I've never felt (due to my own laziness to put in a review), but I felt I needed to put in a review of my visit this morning to Pleasant in Newton. I think he also has a place in Watertown too.
I called yesterday and spoke with Charlie (the owner) of this shop and explained the issues I had. In fact, I had taken the car to the dealer (who had themselves diagnosed the issue) and I was looking for a cheaper alternative. Charlie told me to bring it in and he'd take a look.
The problem I was having was 1) lots of noise coming from the engine when I turn on the car (I thought it was the belt) and 2) compliance bushings based upon the recommendation of the dealer to have them replaced.
Well, Charlie and I took a quick spin around the area in the car, and he asked me about all of the issues. Then, he lifted the car and identified the likely problem in about 5 minutes. He was nice enough to bring me in the back and show me all the issues. Basically, the problem was the faulty work of the dealer (which I took there when there was a power steering hose recall) and quite simply it was a "loose screw." Seriously, just a loose screw. He took a look (and showed me) that the dealer's recommendations were not a problem at all.
We all know it's hard to find an auto mechanic that you can trust, and I call tell you that I found that shop and person. (I also identified and confirmed my suspicions of the people at an auto dealer that was happy to do faulty work and then rip people off to fix the problem they caused....)
Best part, when all said and done he gave me a bill for his time and work -- and charged me $25.00 for his time and the fluid that needed to be filled. Just to give you an idea: the auto dealer had given me an estimate of over $600 bucks on a part that didn't even need to be replaced!! I'm sure they would have charged me even more than that! Suffice it to say, I gave Charlie more than the $25.

I am so glad I found a trustworthy mechanic. I first brought my car to Steve in 2012 for a small exhaust leak and new tires. He drove me around in my car so I could tell him exactly what I heard and felt from the exhaust. While my car was there for the repair Steve explained that whoever repaired my brakes in the past did not do a great job and pointed out exactly what was wrong. He literally brought me into the garage so I could see the physical damage on my brakes (all four!) and he also pointed out the exhaust leak. It was quite a bit more than I was planning to spend at the time but Steve explained everything that needed to be done and gave me prices for everything. Four new tires and all new brakes and I walked out with a much fuller wallet than I would have if I had gone to the dealership.
I came back to Pleasant Car Care in 2014 for a check engine light and a flat tire after a nasty encounter with a pot hole. Steve was able to get me in first thing on a Saturday to get everything done. Turns out my front axle was also busted and needed to be repaired ASAP (also an unforeseen expense). Again he took me into the garage and showed me everything that was wrong which I really appreciated. He gave me great prices for everything and walked me through the cost for each repair in case I had any questions.
If you need a trustworthy mechanic come here! This place is incredible and they make you feel like they actually want to help you, not just that it's their job. For as long as I live in the area I will take my car to Steve. Would 100% recommend to friends and family.

They did reach out to me saying that if I would have raised the issues with my car's transmission, they would have fixed it for free. Honestly, it was just a little to late. They also offered to work on my new car in the future for a possible free repair, I don't know if that will work at this time. We are still far apart on a resolution, but atleast they cared enough to call. So I will give the 2 stars for the effort. Maybe if you express your dissatisfaction on any service they do, that you don't like, your luck would be better than mine...

I seriously know at least 3 different people (who don't know each other) who all brought their cars to get fixed at pleasant car care and they all said the same thing- they couldn't believe how much they over charged! and that they are never going there again!

I am bringing my cars there for all maintenance and repairs since 2010. They always do a great job and they always inform about pricing before they do the job.
On the contrary I brought one of my cars for a warranty job to the dealer and I had to go twice and they still kept on replacing the wrong parts. I had to bring it to Charlie at Pleasant to diagnose the problem and then go back to the dealership to get it fixed since it's still under warranty.( I cannot wait for the warranty to expire, so I can do everything at Pleasant Car Care).

I recently had to find a new car repair shop after one I'd been going to for several years folded. I was apprehensive about this to say the least. After checking out Pleasant Car Care's website, I decided to give them a try. I'm glad to say that I made the right decision. After submitting an online request for an appointment, I received a reply from the owner Charlie about 2 hours later with a confirmation.
I had a good feeling right away when I dropped off my vehicle. I met two of the mechanics, who seemed very friendly and professional. I even got a ride to Watertown Square from one of them, which I wouldn't have expected. Later in the morning, I got a call with a rundown of the repairs they would be doing. There were a few things that needed attention, however there was no pressure for any repairs/work that were not necessary. At the end of the day, I stopped by to pick up the vehicle, and everything was good to go same day.
In summary, I would recommend this shop to anyone. They do very good work, and it is clear that providing quality customer service is high on their list, something that is not easy to find. When the time comes, I will feel very confident returning to Pleasant Car Care.

Best repair shop around!
The day after feeling overcharged by a tire/auto-care chain up the street, our other car developed problems. Being in not such a great mood and not wanting to go back to the chain, I was lucky that a coworker who lives in the area had a tip for me and referred me to Pleasant Car Care.
I am so glad she did! Not only did he find and fix the problem the same day, but when he found that one of my pipes broke because it rusted through, he actually E-MAILED ME PICTURES of it before asking for authorization. Who else does that?
I've been back with both cars several times since; he's always been able to turn the jobs around quickly and doesn't try to up sell anything. He even offered me advice when my car broke down on the highway and was too far away to bring to him. Again, who else does that?
I've referred quite a few people to bring their car here, all of whom made a point to come back to tell me how happy they were with the work. In short, it's a great shop run by great guys who do great work.

I've been going here for 6-years. Before I found Pleasant Car Care, I had a bad experience at the Midas in Arlington and another place in Medford. I find that no matter where I called, Pleasant Car Care always beat the price, even when I didn't tell them that I got a quote someplace else. For regular customers, they will either match it or the next oil change was on them if they couldn't match the price. For example, there was a job that I needed done that Toyota dealership quoted the part as being $2,000, so if the price of the part was already that high of a cost, think about what the labor would be. Pleasant Car Care charged 3 times as less that price without compromising the quality of the work.
I took my car to Sullivan Tire for a noise issue coming from the engine and they said that the problem was related to the Transmission; but Pleasant Car Care found that it was the fan - the staff cleaned the fan [or something like that] and the noise from the engine disappeared. Imagine if I let Sullivan Tire do transmission work and wasted all that money? When Pleasant Car Care found the issue, and didn't even charge me because they said it was a simple fix.
Pleasant Care Care are thorough, clean, and I will continue to keep going. Charlie [the owner] has always been upfront and honest, and if I had a problem, he would tell me how to go about the issue. I had an issue with two inner tie rods that were done by them, but I had brought the parts in. He encouraged me to contact the place where I bought it and the place reimbursed me for both because there was a warranty on it, and Charlie discounted one of the jobs. He didn't have to do that, but he realized the trouble that it probably was for me to have to bring the part back to the manufacturer. I never even complained about it.
To Rita S who said, "I'm shocked at all these positive reviews," it's because for the people like me who have gone to soooo many bad mechanics, when a good one comes through, us regular customers recognize that. I've never been overcharged - and even when I am quoted a price by Charlie, I will still sometimes call Munro Muffler and Brake, as well as Sullivan Tire, to see what they are quoting out of curiosity and I'll always call Toyota, although I'm apprehensive going to Toyota because I know that I'll sit there for a long time. Of course you can get quotes other places, but I've learned... that if a quote is a bit up from $20 or $30, there really isn't that much of a difference because when I hire Pleasant Car Care, I'm paying for the quality of service that I never got at a dealership repair shop [except for Woburn Toyota Used Car - they were the only dealership who provided good, honest repair work].
Nonetheless, if I ever had an issue about price or anything else I always brought it to the dealership first and something was always worked out. I never posted something if I was disgruntled. I give the opportunity to the owner to fix the issue.

Charlie and Steve have been great mechanics. Usually, I feel like a mechanic is giving me the run around, trying to squeeze as much money out of me as he can, but these guys are honest, trustworthy and professional. I came to them first when another mechanic said I needed $1,600 worth of brake work done on my car. Charlie told me I had another nine months to go on my brakes, and when the time did come to do them, he did the job for $400. They save old parts from my car to show me what they've done and they're always upfront with work that might be coming down the road. They keep my car running! They're always accommodating with scheduling appointments, and they're genuinely nice guys to talk to. I'm so glad I've found Pleasant Car Care and highly recommend either their shop in Watertown or their shop in Newton. Give them a call and rest assured- you'll be in good hands!

I purchased the car care package on groupon and I was so pleased to read all the wonderful comments about the store on google and yelp, since I just bought my first car and almost knew nothing about cars...I really need some honest advise.
Charlie was not there when I first visited the store, but Ruffie(hope I spell that right) and the happy Greek guy(I am so sorry that I forgot his name.) were very helpful. I changed my radiator there at my second visit and I have to say, the service is wonderful! I came home with a healthy car, satisfactory and lots of knowledge.

It honestly takes a business to go the extra mile to get me to write a review about them. Steve and the crew are professional, smart and caring. They drove me back to work when I had to bring my car in on my lunch break due to a coolant leak. They repaired it that day and I was back on the road in the morning. I even received a text message thanking me for my business! If I'm going to shell out hundreds of dollars for repairs or even $20, this is exactly how I should be treated as a customer. Thanks guys!

Here is my experience. I have visited two month back to fix my old car after reading all these positive reviews. These people recommend unnecessary fixes, charges too much (less rate but more hours). Only thing positive is they are polite. Service may be good but I would never go back for what they charge. Be honest guys in giving appropriate estimates for fix things and hours.

I went to the new location on Watertown Street to get my state inspection - simple I know - but I was really pleased when the mechanic took the time to get the sticky residue off my windshield before putting the new sticker on! I had really been wanting that and you won't get service like that at some gas station.

This review is somewhat unusual because I didn't have anything repaired. Still, I think it is characteristic of Pleasant Car Care and wanted to leave it anyway.
A few weeks ago my AC stopped working. It would just buzz and not push air through when I turned on the AC or fan. I thought it was likely there was some debris, but had no idea what to do once I had removed the glovebox.
I drove down to PCC. One of the guys came over and listened, then pointed to a few screws at the bottom. Remove these, he said, and the unit will drop out, then you can just shake out the debris and it should be fine.
No spin, no lying, no gaming, just a little helpful information straight up. I've been looking for a few years since I moved here from NH for a mechanic I could trust, and I think I found it.

I had a check engine light that was coming on and off. Pleasant Car Care was able to get into the system memory to find the cause, which ended up being a relatively simple fix that was not expensive and my car was fixed within hours. The staff were pleasant and overall it was a very smooth experience.

I needed to get a second opinion when my car failed inspection due to an exhaust leak and one place was quoting me $2000 for a new manifold. I just knew it wasn't my manifold that needed to be replaced. After reading all the awesome reviews, I decided to give Pleasant Car Care a try- and I am so glad that I did. Not only were they able to look at my car the same day that I called, but they were even able to fix it that day as well. Truth be told, it wasn't in fact my mainfold that needed to be replaced but just my front pipe casket. My total came to only $175.
Not only was their service fast, but I received an honest opinion which is hard to get now a days. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

I brought my car in to get it looked over before a big road trip. They found a lot wrong with it, which is fine, they seemed very knowledgeable and showed me everything that needed to be fixed, and didn't charge for the inspection even though I didn't immediately book an appointment (hence the two stars instead of one). I went home to do some of the smaller repairs myself to save some money as I'm a student and one of the repairs proved to be too much of a pain so I called up a shop close to home to get it fixed before driving back to the area and they charged me HALF of what Pleasant Car Care was planning on charging. I also asked for their opinion for some other repairs Pleasant said I needed, they deemed them as unnecessary (this was a second opinion of unnecessary after a retired mechanic friend looked at them too). I was also told that I needed two new tires since I couldn't get just one new one as the tires I had were discontinued, which is a lie since I was able to purchase one myself without looking hard. I thought this place was going to be filled with honest mechanics since all the review were so good but I was sorely disappointed, definitely too good to be true. I'll admit the second place did not have nearly as nice of a waiting room, but I'd rather just pay for my car repairs instead of the repairs plus a premium for a pristine waiting room with flat screen TV and coffee.

I was first introduced to Charlie when he was working in another person's shop in JP. My wife and I were SO excited when we found him again here in Watertown. He is the best mechanic I have ever known. As others have said, his shop is exceptionally clean, he is very honest, and I always leave confident that I've made the best decision for my car's care.
Yesterday I started driving home from a week long retreat and my car started acting really sluggish and off. I called Charlie (I make sure to keep his number in my phone) and quickly described the symptoms. We agreed I should come directly over so I changed my plans and an hour or so later I was in his shop. He quickly diagnosed the problem using a combination of high tech tools and good mechanic wisdom. He showed me the source of the problem and was able to fix it in only 90 minutes. I decided to wait and had a great time doing some work and playing guitar on a bench down by the river only a very short walk away. I could not have had a better experience.
There are many closer mechanics to my home but I don't think twice passing all of them to go and work with Charlie. He is fabulous.

Charlie and his staff are fantastic. I found them on a google search and thought I'd give them a try because they got such a high star-rating. I called at 1pm on a Friday and they could take my car within 20 minutes. I needed a maintenance check, oil change, and a headlight changed. They only found two things that needed care from the maintenance check and both were very reasonably priced. Also - Charlie is so nice. He brought me to Starbucks so I could wait while they worked on my car.
And today - three days after they performed the service - they called to make sure the car was running fine. I'm DEFINITELY going back.

This is a great local shop! Charlie, the owner, definitely takes care of you and is very thorough. He is honest and doesn't rip you off. The shop is clean and everyone who works there is friendly. Not your typical shop! I will not go anywhere else after going here. I brought my car in around 8am and got a quick oil change and new filter and was out the door in no time. I felt totally comfortable waiting in the shop with the other mechanics who were friendly and chatty. I highly recommend this place!

I am very satisfied with the work and the customer service I got from the this shop.. I was driving by the neighborhood and noticed a new shop. Charlie's shop is very innovative. he shows you the defective parts with his camara and videos what the problem was so when you get the bill you understand exactly what the cost is and where he came up with it.

i used a groupon deal today, $49 for their complete car maintenance package. charlie and the entire team are very professional and took care of my 98 honda accord very well.
the best part they did not up sell me anything. charlie pointed out one thing in my front wheel which he recommended i fix soon but did not push me to do so. i was hearing knocking sound for quite some days and this was the root cause. he got the parts right away and fixed it.
the cost was probably the same as anyone else would have charged.
he them took my car for a test drive and asked me to join in. we were still looking for that knocking sound but did not hear anything. i drove home and still no knocking sound, touch wood
i will be back to charlie for my car maintenance, he is very straight forward guy who wouldn't sell me anything that is not required.
another plus point, u do 4 oil changes there and u get the 5th free.
so people who are still on the fence i encourage u guys to give these guys a try. i finally found a mechanic i can trust

Can't say enough good things about this place. I used to be a mechanic and I can without a doubt say that I completely trust these guys to be honest and very capable. You're not going to find another auto repair shop that's this clean, transparent, and customer service oriented, period. I've been here several times and every time, they never charge me a diagnostic fee, will show me in detail the problem they see so I know they're not upselling me, and get me an accurate quote. But it's not just any quote - the last time I went, to tune up my rear breaks, they beat a chain competitor up the street for the same service by $100. AND vacuumed the front seat of the car. AND followed up with a text if there were any problems. In the past, they have also saved me hundreds getting alternate parts to my car as they are independent and not beholden to any particular dealer or company. Believe the hype!

As a woman I was relieved to have chosen Pleasant Car Care for the work I needed done on my car. I work in the area and a co-worker recomended I bring my Lexus in for service. She assured me I would be comfortable and they would take good care of me and my car. Very honest and trustworthy garage. Having been felt like I was getting ripped off at the VW dealership for several years, I wanted to find a local garage that I could trust.
