I'll keep it short as I just went in for an oil change. I was very happy because they took me with only ten minutes advance notice. I was in and out in 40 minutes and it was affordable - $37.50 for an oil change and fluids top off. They were professional and good natured. Will be back with any issues I have with my car. Thanks RNS!

This place is INCREDIBLE! The staff are top notch, their service and knowledge is unmatched!
I brought my Jaguar in after having major issues that other car shops couldn't figure out, which first led me to Jaguar Honolulu. I figured I would go straight to the source to figure things out. Needless to say, that was a disaster, not great service and they wanted to charge me the cost of another car for a not so complicated issue. But this is about RNS, so let's focus on them!!
As soon as I walked in, I could sense the difference. These people know their stuff, not in a cocky way, but in an unmatched confidence way. I instantly was at ease and my car was finished the same day. I cannot say enough about how impressed I am with their service. We would drive from anywhere on island to get our car worked on here!

Called RNS to make an appoinment for a vehicle safety inspection, they got me in same day because someone canceled. They sounded polite over the phone. Got to RNS 15mins late and they still were able to do a quick inspection for me. In and out in minutes! 4of5 stars only because finding this place is tricky. Futhermore my Garmin GPS dose not bringe anywhere near thier shop so it's off the grid.. Great customer service and I would come again when I need work done.

Brought my car to them to change 2 CV boots, check the brakes and a grinding sound. They sounded very knowledgeable and pleasant when I spoke to them on the phone. When I dropped off my car, the guy I met was a little rude and seemed annoyed because I explained to him that my neighbor tried to fix my car but was unsuccessful. They ended up changing the CV boots, fixing the brakes and replacing the driver side axle. Overall they did a great job fixing my car at a reasonable price (I drive an Audi). I would bring my car to them again - they seem honest, trustworthy and priced fairly for Hawaii.

Wow...Can't believe I just found out about these guys.
Was desperate to find a new auto shop for safety checks and oil changes, as the last one I went to was a nightmare to deal with. (see other review)
I give them a call to schedule a safety check; guy on the other end is very courteous and professional, and gets my appointment squared away. I ask if they can squeeze in an oil change, and he says they can.
Show up for the safety check, and the guys are hard at work; not one guy sitting down, everyone moving and working (always a plus to see that in a shop). I approach the desk and check in, but there was some confusion as there was no note for an oil change. Guy behind the desk states that if they can, they will squeeze in the oil change.
Wait for the guy ahead of me to finish his safety check, pull my truck in and they are already getting it done; no delay, just straight to my safety check, which went by very quickly. As soon as the safety check was done, the mechanic hopped out of the truck, moved the car in front out of the way, and put my truck on the lift to get an oil change.
All in all, it took all of 35 min for both an oil change and safety check, though I must acknowledge that it was toward the end of the day, and there weren't many people waiting in line.
Such an amazing experience with RNS, and I will definitely be back and recommending them to others.

RNS rocks! They get you scheduled weeks before other shops, and the last time I went in, I just needed a quick check-over because my service light came on. They did it right away and didn't even charge me a "diagnostic fee" like everywhere else does. I won't go anywhere else on the island! Parking and finding it is a little rough-but trust me, it's worth it. Prices can't be beat, easy and fast scheduling, great service. 5 stars guys.

I am here for a safety check, I scheduled an appointment @ 3:45pm it's 4:45 pm and still haven't gotten seen for my vehicle they close at 5 pm. I did not waste my time and gas to come here only to not be seen. If they can't make the time frame for each vehicle to be seen then they need to notify the person (as in me) to let me know that they won't be able to do my car. Next time this happens if I come back. I will want to speak to the owner and it's not going to be pretty. F.Y.I I will still be calling the owner. This is unacceptable.

I'm a professional, busy woman and above all I value quality and expertise. With Ron you get above board integrity, extremely helpful staff, and an experience and quality mechanic! I've had my Prius in to R&S four distinct times and every time the issue was fixed the first time, for a great price!
I cannot say enough good things about Ron and his crew, they are simply the best value and best mechanic in Kailua!

Wanted a non-chain place (Firestone, etc.) to look at my car, so tried this place. They were nice and you are able to drop it off after hours for the next day. Where you park for this is a little unclear. The location and hours are not the most convenient, especially if you just have the one car like our family does. They did check out a couple of minor issues for free. (they needed parts to fix, but were able to give me an estimate)
Short version, a good place if you can spare some time on a week day and have someone to help you pick up/drop off.

Being a woman, when getting your car checked out at any mechanic shop you have to be skeptical as to if someone is taking advantage of you. At RNS you don't have to worry about that.
I took my 95' Lexus ES300 in to this shop just based off the reviews here with just a general idea of what could possibly be wrong, and Ron worked with my schedule to find a day to leave it overnight to check the car out first thing in the morning.
In the end, RNS had to refer me to a transmission specialist and had just about the same idea of what was wrong, but charged nothing for looking at the car. They checked my fluids and oil free of charge and took the time to give me options of what the problem could be.
For any future problems I'll be returning here. They're an honest, good hearted mechanic shop who are truly here to help you. Thanks Ron!

I've taken my car here a few times for basic maintenance and my inspection. Love the idea of taking my car here. They seem to really know their stuff and do good work, but they are difficult to work with. Usually don't answer the phone and when they do, its hard to get appointments.

Very disappointed, I took my Nissan Frontier in here to get one sensor replaced. I had already bought the sensor and told them exactly what to do. I tried to replace it myself but I couldn't remove the connector, all they had to do was remove one bolt and replace the sensor, very simple job that could be done in under 30 minutes by anyone, especially a professional mechanic. They charged me $118....for removing one bolt. That's ridicules. They get good business cause I had to make an appointment a week in advance so please tell me why they insist on taking a run for my money, I will never go back I tell you that much. God forbid I needed something more done (like 2 bolts), do not go here they will take advantage of you. I will be sure to spread the word to all Marines on base about this place. Just as bad as Firestone.

My husband and I brought an older New Beetle here that needed electrical work. The hubby's co-worker gave this car to us free and said it's former owner (his friend) somehow disconnected a bunch of wiring, but it should only cost us like $500 - $1000 to get it all reconnected. The car was running well and had lots of energy, just couldn't pass safety nor get registered in its condition. Long story short, the guys at RNS kept us informed from drop-off to pick up, and honestly advised against moving forward as it would cost way more than the car was worth. Service manager, Doug, was kind and professional! My husband noticed that the other customers coming to pick up their cars were very happy, overly grateful to RNS with the work on reviving their cars - that's a good sign! Unfortunately for us, as hubby drove the Beetle away, while I was following him, it was in worse shape than before, stuttering and jumpy (most likely from RNS having to work with all the wiring and not being able to get it back to working condition. They kept finding more problems as they assessed stuff.) So he had to just abandon it. We are still satisfied with RNS and would 4 sure use their services in the future.

I don't know why it took me so long to review RNS. I think I've had my car in there at least four times now, and these guys have been so honest with me, it was both shocking and refreshing! I don't expect mechanics to be honest! It was almost like I needed to wait to see if it was a real, and yet every time, they're the same - amazing customer service, won't change you when there's nothing to do, and don't try to get you to pay extra - I've been honestly told, you can wait til 80,000 for that, or another 5,000 for this, it might be annoying but isn't a safety issue and won't hurt the car. And they've been right. Every time. I made the mistake of taking my car on base for an oil change and it was fine - but they tried to upsets me on everything!! I went there bc of convenience but never again!! Only RNS from here on out! They helped me when I first moved here by checking out cars I was looking at buying, and now help me out with the car I bought. They are truly wonderful!!! So happy I found them!!!! THANK YOU RNS!!!

Great mechanic who confirmed my muffler was loose as the problem without upselling me on anything. He not only recommended a welder I could go to, but also tied back my muffler as a temporary fix until I could go see the other shop the next day.
Can possibly be tricky to find, but good to pay attention to building number #27. This is closer to Archipelago Hawaii, so do your Google Maps search based off of that and this shop is building #27.

Do NOT go here for a vehicle inspection of any kind. They will sign you off. Then when you come back after you get an updated registration they will claim they don't have any stickers for you. Bam you just got taken. That's not how the hawaii vehicle inspection works. Don't waste your time and money here!

DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU HATE MONEY AND LIKE BEING TREATED LIKE SH*T. I wish I had better read all the reviews for this place prior to going here because now I can totally empathize with all those people on Yelp that got RIPPED OFF and treated like shit. Basically, I paid $466 for break pads and to replace two rotors, which to be quite honest, I do not think needed replacing at all (I've heard the noise cars make when the rotors are in need of replacing and my truck did not sound nearly as bad). So I asked to keep my old rotors and surprise surprise, they were in FINE condition. Of course, they tried to tell me that they "weren't sure" if those used rotors came off of my truck as they did not get the message that I wanted to keep my old rotors. This was all after the mechanic gave me a hard time for asking for my rotors and told me more than once, "They're in the trash. You want me to go digging in the trash for them?" I was puzzled. I had called him back earlier in the day, right after he called to give me my estimate, and I left a voice message saying I'd like to keep my old rotors. How is this my fault again?! FYI, it's your legal right to keep your old rotors after they've been replaced. By the time he oh so graciously grabbed them for me (from the VERY TOP of the "junk bin"), he was so pissed I thought he was going to fly them into the bed of my truck. He didn't, thank God. So the rotors were the biggest issue, especially since in hindsight, I'm almost positive they did not need replacing. But it's hard to make money off of just break pads, right?.....
Why did I agree to the work and price?! I don't know!!? Why do any of us agree to things we know we shouldn't agree to? Maybe a part of me wanted to trust and believe him when he said my rotors needed replacing (although the evidence of the old rotors do not lie), or maybe a part of me felt kind of trapped, like if I didn't want to go through with the work then they would charge me some outlandish price anyway for having to look under the hood. It was definitely a situation in which I did not follow my gut instinct, also partially because I was in the midst of studying for my midterm and just wanted to get this over with so I could get back to studying. I definitely regret this decision as I've since price compared the cost of replacing rotors and break pads with other automotive shops and yes, nail in the coffin, I was ripped off.
You've probably got the gist of things by now but if you're at all interested in the rest of my experience with these crooks read on....
Upon check in, I let the mechanic know that my check engine light was on but that I had plugged in one of those diagnostic readers at home and the problem was an O2 sensor. He asked which O2 sensor and I told him that I wasn't sure...(still can't find anything on the web about multiple O2 sensors for my truck model.) His reply was rude and impatient (like how dare I try to diagnose the problem myself); he told me that it was going to be an automatic $80 for them to plug in their own diagnostic reader to find out which O2 sensor was broken. I told him no need and I'll leave the check engine light on (since the O2 sensor part alone was only like $100 on ebay). It's not like that $80 was going to be for labor or parts or anything other than them plugging in the same kind of gadget into my truck that I did at home, and I just wasn't convinced that that was necessary in order to figure out which O2 sensor was having issues, if in fact there are multiple O2 sensors on my truck model. Not to mention, I mentioned all this O2 sensor stuff on the phone when I made my appointment and nothing was mentioned to me about multiple O2 sensors or the automatic $80 fee when I asked for an idea of what that would cost. Anyway, this guy's (the one I dealt with in person) whole attitude and demeanor was rude and pushy, and I felt like I was taking up too much of his time (I was probably in the shop for a total of 4 minutes). I keep kicking myself for not just walking out of there then.
P.S. the center of my hub cap, the part that covers the rotors, came off about a week and some change after my appointment with these guys. There's a good chance it wasn't put back on well. Figures.

Tip, this place is a rip off..Basically stole my van....They said they fixed, "mechanically sound"..I drove it off did not make it 5 miles down the road before it broke down. They would not tow back at there cost. Then they kept it for a month before they said they could not fix it. A bad place to do business plus extreamly remote place to get to....Save yourself and find another shop.

Ive had the pleasure of watching RNS explode with business over the past few years and for good reason bc Ron and his team are epic! I recently took my car to two separate mechanics and they told me two separate things resulting in over $2000 worth of work. Good thing I thought about Ron last minute! He stopped what he was doing walked over and assessed my car on the spot for free. He told me and showed me exactly what the problem was. It was very minor and didn't need any work if I didn't want it.
Instead of screwing me and my wallet, Ron was completely honest and just helped me out like a good human should.
Everyone should go here! Thanks RNS!!

Ron is the man. Can't say anything better. I take all my vehicles here since I got a referral from another happy customer in 2009. He's been able to fix issues on my Nissan Frontier, Toyota Camry, Suzuki Aerio, and Chevy Express Van.
I run my own handyman business, and my family and I rely on my truck to start up and get to work everyday. When my timing belt broke, Ron was the first person I thought of. He gave me different options from just a basic timing belt install to the whole shebang since the motor was already opened up. He is always fair and my truck hasn't had issues since. A clamp came loose on my power steering hose and he found the leak and fixed it on the spot no charge.
My wife's car mysteriously died one day. I asked Ron if I could tow it up there and most importantly when could he look at it. Today he says. He calls me back that afternoon with the verdict that the timing chain broke and the car was not worth repairing. I asked him how much do I owe you for the diagnosis, and he replies no charge. Can't find better customer service anywhere!
My wife really hates going to the mechanic, especially when I'm not there with her to make sure she doesn't get shafted. I sent her to Ron to get the Camry checked out, but she was really hesitant to go alone. She calls me after Ron checked out her car and told me she had never felt more comfortable at any mechanic ever! And she's had cars for 10 years now! That says a lot.
I buy a lot of used cars because I'm always messing around to see what I like. I always have the sellers take them to Ron's for a pre-purchase inspection. He's thorough, checks out everything, and even takes the car for a spin to determine if it's worth buying or a real lemon.
I don't know what I'd do without RNS Automotive. Thanks Ron for providing honest reliable service that's hard to find at any mechanic!
I tell everyone to take their car here. I just moved to Kapolei and I still drive to Kailua to get my vehicles serviced. That should say something.
Thanks again!!!

SUPER impressed! The mechanic I usually go to for small repairs did me a favor; they didn't answer their phone! After trying all morning to reach someone (and getting a message that the voicemail box was full), I then reached out to RNS Automotive for a simple repair: a clogged windshield washer nozzle.
They took me immediately as a walk-in, dropped what they were doing when I arrived, and fixed the problem instantly. No charge! Now that's what I call service!
The owner, Ron, is the nicest guy ever. This may have been my first visit to RNS, but it will definitely not be the last!
RNS Automotive is located in Kapa'a Industrial Park (adjacent to the dump), on Kapa'a Quarry Place, building 27D. The turn for the industrial park is right across the street from the RC field (you will probably see the little remote-controlled airplanes flying overhead!). Go past Menehune Magic and All Pool, then turn right and right again.

My mom took her car in because--- well she had to. She had two days left til safety expired and the gas station had failed her for a front bumper falling off (where my daughter had dented it and ripped it half off on a curb), a missing passenger side rear view mirror (also a casualty of my daughter's driving), and a faulty instrument panel/ speedometer. Though hard to locate in Kapaa Quarry (even though buildings have huge numbers marking them- they aren't in numerical order) - it was worth the drive.
They called all over to find replacement part, when they couldn't find it they sent instrument panel out to be refurbished. She was a little anxious so she kept calling and they were nothing but pleasant- never making her feel like she was pestering them. The end result- they fixed her car for hundreds less than she expected to pay, and had it ready in two days. They even bent the dings out of her plastic/ fiberglass bumper. I'm a believer!

Only reason I don't give 5 stars is because of communication. A week ago I called to get a safety check and oil change, one person told me I could come in within the hour. I get there and I'm turned away by someone different because they had no idea I was coming and filled my spot. Today almost the same thing happened, only this time I called a few days in advance for an appointment. Once again I get there and I'm told, that person for that time slot is already here. I'm not sure if they are sometimes failing to keep a log of appointments and who is who or what,BUT I will say this....They were VERY accommodating and worked me in within 10 minutes. Extremely friendly and professional people, service was fast and amazing. I had 2 young babies with me so they got me in and out in a timely manner. They don't over charge either! I will definitely be coming back, but In hopes my appointments don't get confused in the future!

Iv been to a few places for my safety...Sears, Goodyear and a place in honolulu. The sears guys are friendly but you stand in line for average of 45 min just to talk to someone at the front desk ..another 3 hrs for your car to be inspected if your lucky enough to get it in that day. Goodyear in Kailua always has a friendly staff and you dont have to wait to long for the front desk to acknoladge you..but there pretty booked, some of there services are higher than local buisness and they took my car for about 2 hrs on my scheduled apt for safety. Thus..sitting around or walking around in the hot sun. My husband just got back from deployment and needed his safety so he looked up places near kailua and found this one. They got him in later the same day..He was really happy with his expierence there and told me I should take my car to these guys. I did and I was really impressed. After dealing with one terribly rude unprofessional auto shop in hnl and then sears long waits and good years not bad but not great services this place was a real Gem ! We called and they scheduled my safety for a few hrs out . It was a little hard to find but when we got there, All the staff was friendly and greeted me..even ones who were just passing by working on other tasks. I got out of my car, told them I had an apt for my safety..they had me pull it up ..no wait time. They said I could just relax in the car (: no standing in line no hot sun and I didn't have to try to find something to do while they did my safety. They came to my door; asked for the required papers, had me show that all the lights and stuff we're working and did everything while my son and I got to be comfy in the ac. I had some stickers that they happily removed for me free of charge and within 20 min I was done. This place gets 5 stars for being professional, knowledgeable, honest, fair priced* (they don't try to nickel and dime you) speedy service, and great customer service. Also I just went back with my hawaii registration for them to put the stickers on and even though they were enjoying a lunch break they happily stopped what they were doing to switch my old plates out and add my stickers. VERY IMPRESSED ! Not very often do I write a review but yelp is my turn to place when I'm looking for reliable info. This place deserves as much buisness pointed in there direction as they can get. These days it's hard to find good services that are fair and friendly who actually care about your buisness. And this is one of um.

Awesome. I brought my 4runner to these guys thinking that it needed a substantial amount of work done to the steering and suspension, and with a check engine light on that another mechanic had been unable to pull the code on or resolve. I told them I was a little cash light at the moment and just wanted to do what was necessary to get my vehicle safe. They diagnosed everything and told me I had a bunch of miles left before I needed to deal with the steering and suspension, and they fixed the check engine light. THEY DIDNT CHARGE ME A DOLLAR! Not even the 90 bucks they quoted me for pulling the code. I have dealt with pushy and dishonest mechanics a lot in New York, and it was so amazing to have a different experience. These are my go-to guys now, they also were super pleasant, patient, professional and informative. They quoted me a price to redo my back brakes and it was a full hundred dollars less than another quote I had gotten. In response to the reviews saying the location is difficult...I found it in 3 minutes and I am totally new to the area. I'd give more stars if I could!

I didn't realize my safety check was expired until a policeman told me. GULP! He didn't cite me, but I needed to get it taken care of asap. On Friday, I went to my usual service station, I learned that I now needed an appointment and none were available until Monday. I did an Internet search and found RNS, and a coupon for $5 off! I drove up, walked in and they did the inspection IMMEDIATELY!
Fabulous! They were polite and very efficient. Check out their website for directions.

Got the car towed there after it stopped running. Apparently the timing belt cover melted and there was some other gory stuff going on under the hood. Again, these guys did what was right, got me going enough that when a part I needed wasn't in stock they worked it so I could drive the car. Brought it back a few days later and it has been running great ever since. Thanks again. And again, I hope I don't have to see you soon:-) But if I do, I know I will be well taken care of. Mahalo

OMG I finally found a wonderful auto shop! These guys were the third shop I went to,. Lucikly for me the other two I found on yelp they didn't work on Mitsubishis...huh...aren't we close to Japan? I digressed sorry! So my Mitzy had what sounded like a skip and she shuddered. When they said yes they work on Mitsubishis i brought her in and Ron the owner took a look at her. He did a diagnostic on it and found the problem. Spark plug #3 not seated right. Ron tried to get it back in which he did and told me to get a tune up ASAP as the spark plug wasn't really seated right. I was shown the problem and they explained the problems not fixing it could cause. And thanks for not treating me like a dumb blonde who wouldn't understand all that you explained as most shops do. Ron also talked about the codes the diagnostic showed and he said not to worry about the egr as we don't have emissions testing. I knew about the egr issue but interestingly the dealer didnt tell me not to worry about it....hmmmm! Ron told me how long and about how much for the tuneup as there is an assembly that would take some time to remove to get to he plugs. First days Total time 30 min and no charge. I think the dealer charges for a diagnostic code check! A week later (today) I dropped her off for the tune up. I could have had my bf do the tuneup but he even thought that these guys were awesome for doing the diagnostic, getting the spark plug back in and not charging me. So instead of waiting for when he has time i took her back to RNS these guys just won my business by their awesome customer service the first time I went there. Mitzy was ready in 4 hours and I know it took about 3 to get all the assembly off. I know they had other vehicles brought in this morning and to get it done before 3 or 4p as the dealer would was exciting! I also had an exhaust leak which I wasn't concerned about but I swear the noise is gone now. Not sure if RNS did something to fix that too but I am really thrilled to find honest knowledgable mechanics! I'd recommend them to anyone and everyone! Thanks RNS my Mitzy is a happy camper again! It's great to have found honest reliable service and people who truly know their tradecraft and know how to provide excellent customer service! You have a new loyal customer! You all rock!! Thanks again for the wonderful service!!!

My husband & I moved to Oahu from a small town in Maine. We knew our local mechanic for 20 + years.
Last week when our muffler on our Toyota started making a lot of noise. On top of that a head light went out & we needed to get our car inspected.
Living in Kailua we use a popular local spot for oil changes etc & they were constantly trying to pad the bill. Very annoying
We went to yelp & RNS auto has 43/4 stars. Ron deserves a 5 star rating. Admittedly we are not handy people. Ron assessed the issues & called me with a very reasonable quote. My first response was "is that all it will cost?
Long story short RNS Auto will be our go to Mechanic from now on. I have already talked to many friends about how reasonable & honest Ron is.
RNS is a little out of the way but if you go to their website, go to the bottom & click on the here, there is very clear directions on how to find them in the industrial park.
We give RNS Auto Repair 5 stars

My daughter bought a clunker of a car! Thank God we found Ron and RNS Auto! Ron understands that she just needs the car to get her to school and work, and that she doesn't have a lot of money to spend on repairs. Another mechanic we took her car to, told her to buy a newer car, but my daughter and I don't have that kind of money. Ron gets her situation, he gets it fixed (and it stays fixed), is honest, fair and dependable! Love him, his family , his crew and his adorable "puppies"! The only problem, is that more people are finding out about him and he is BUSY!

I recently got an oil change at Midas in Kailua. They told me that I needed my rack and pinion replaced to the tune of $1200. Ouch. They even took me out to the bay and pointed to the greasy area under my vehicle. The mechanic had a very somber face and made it seem like the situation was dire.
So I checked around and got a very strong recommendation for RNS. A friend said, "The owner is a Christian, and he's very honest."
I called Ron, and although it took him a little while to get back to me, the telephone estimate (site unseen) for the rack and pinion job came out around $1000. So I made the appointment and dropped off my vehicle.
About an hour after dropping off my vehicle, Ron called me.
"There's nothing wrong with your rack and pinion," he said. "Your boot is torn up, but that'll cost you under $100 to repair." He asked me why I thought I needed a rack and pinion job in the first place, so I told him that I had been told this by Midas.
He laughed and said, "I'm an honest shop, and I cannot in good faith repair something that ISN'T BROKEN."
Thank you, Ron. You run an honest shop, and I'm telling the island about your good work.

these guys are crooks!. i went there to get a tune and all my fluids flushed. when i get back they tell me i need new rear routers and brakes. im fine with that. my car(2004 chevy van) is old and they are probably worn out. bill comes back $1300. WTF! i argue a little but what can i do. heres where the real problem begins. i drive my car away and notice the engine shaking. i call back and they tell me to bring it back. three days later they tell me my cars ready. i come to pick up my car and my car alarm is broken. but the worst part is i still have the same problem. so i take it to another auto shop to figure out the problem. guess what he put in bad spark plugs which fried the new wires he put in, when he did the coolant flush they cracked my radiator and on top of that my altinator went out. All this work turned out to be another $1500. i went back to talk to the owner (his name is Ron) to see if he would give me back some of the money and he told me that my car was old and was bound to break. he also said i should do a better job taking care of my car. thats exactly what i was doing! routine maintenance shoudlnt result in everything breaking at once. yes cars break. yes my car aint new but to have all that break at once right after you touched my car. shady workers and terrible customer service! dont recommend to anybody. stay far away from this crook and his inexperienced crew.
