Auto mechanic you can trust

Been going to Brian since he was located at the Gulf station on Shurs, he's very accommodating, very fair. They've take care of everything to keep my 96 cherokee on the road: new tires, brakes, PA inspections, oil, shocks, fuel filter, O2…

We've been going to the Bishara's since Roxborough Getty on Shurs Lane. We drive old cars and they help us keep them running with honest options based upon what needs to be fixed. I trust them completely and after 10 years of service,…

Trustworthy and fair!

Outstanding mechanics and fair prices. I never worry that I got ripped off here. With gas prices and the economy as poor as it it, it's one less thing to have to worry about. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

When my car broke down a few days before Christmas I got online to find a good mechanic/auto shop. I came across Fountain Street Auto Service and saw they had several raving reviews. I called AAA to have my car towed to this location and…

You always hear its hard to find a good reputable mechanic, this place is it! I have been going here for years, I have also referred my family and friends who only had great feedback and they are customers now too. I couldn't have been happier with the service. From a woman's perspective, they were great! I couldn't be happier with Fountain St Auto. They are very kind, professional, thoughtful and easy on the wallet. Thank you to the people who work here!

Once you're pulled in Fountain Street Auto will not Acknowledge your long time patronage. After giving fountain street auto thousands of dollars worth of business they ripped me off for a thermometer for my coolant that was not needed. Instead of being courteous like they did when I first started going there they topped off their saws with a mandatory service fee just to test a part that actually worked ended up spending 220 dollars on a part and labor I didn't need, found a new mechanic two weeks later.

I really do not ever write reviews. This may actually be my first one. These guys are really friendly and really good, and they are not going to to try and sell you some mess that you dont need. Fairly priced and they got me running quick.

Brian and his staff are awesome. They always tell you what you actually need done and what can wait. They also have much better prices than anywhere else. They don't rake you over the coals with labor and really know their stuff. When I had to get my clutch replaced a couple of years ago, Brian's price was HALF of any other quote I got. Since then, I don't even bother shopping around. Brian is always willing to talk to you and make sure you understand what is going on and will tell you what you need to pass inspection and what you can wait on if you don't want to fork up more money to fix everything at that time. Great, honest mechanic which is very very hard to find these days. I take both my wife and my car there now for everything without a second thought. Keep up the great work over there, even if/when I end up moving a little further away from this place I will still more than likely make a drive up here to give them the business. It is so nice to have a mechanic you can really trust. GREAT establishment!

This review is long overdue as I've been going to Fountain Street Auto since moving to Philadelphia 4 years ago, but it is by far the best auto shop I've ever been to and I've lived in 4 different states. Brian and the team is the absolute best! So nice, so quick, such high quality service and they are never ever looking to rip you off. Quite opposite, a couple of times I've had to double check to make sure they didn't under charge me by accident! They've taken great care of my car over the years and are so pleasant during the process.
They are my favorite place/people to work with from a customer service stand point, and that includes all businesses outside of auto repair! I'm moving out of Manayunk but without question will continue to make the drive to Fountain Street Auto.

I needed my state inspection done, plus and oil change and some work on my brakes, and tried Fountain Street Auto based on their positive Yelp reviews. Now I know why everyone likes them so much. They're extremely friendly and flexible with drop-off/pick-up, and their prices are reasonable. They called to run prices by me and told me what was necessary and what could be put on hold for a later date. Will definitely be back!

I don't know how many times I have cursed myself for taking my truck anywhere else. This must be the fifth time I have my truck at another shop and paid for work that didn't work or last. This last time I took my truck to have my AC repaired at pep boys and a small shop. I did this out of convenience and desperation. Both times I was happy to pay and they fit me in right away, but the repairs did not last. Finally I get the truck to Brian and my truck is happy. I wish I had been more patient, I would have save two thirds of the bill because it was done three times in the past month. Thank you Brian for fitting me in and Dave for being a great mechanic!

Reliable. Honest. Reasonable.
These are the three adjectives that first come to mind when I think of Fountain Street Auto. I needed a mechanic quickly, because I needed to get my inspection stickers, and Jared J pointed me to this place.
I was initially shell-shocked by the cost of inspection in PA and the fact that cars are checked for safety here. Who knew! Anyway, the emissions inspection was $44.95 and the safety inspection was $28. I threw an oil change in there, too, and it was only $60 (I have a small car, fortunately). But this wasn't the best part of the service.
My car failed the safety inspection, so I had to replace both of my rear brakes and rotors (plus a caliper). They very kindly let me bring the parts myself and the labor to repair the car was less than $200. Plus, all of the repairs are guaranteed for a year! I was shocked again, but this time in a good way.
I am finding it hard to adequately express how pleased I am with the job that they did at Fountain Street and I will definitely be back for my next oil change.

Great place all-around. Honest, reliable, and fair pricing. I always refer friends to come here.
-2 stars for lack of detail on an inner tie rod replacement. I didn't have the time to replace a rod and had them do it. Technician didn't put on an inner boot clamp, leaving the boot open and hanging and exposing the rod to road debris. They never mentioned it, and so I discovered it once I got my truck back. Maybe that is why I am replacing them again 2 years later...

Brian and the folks at Fountain Street Auto are great. Several times they have done some diagnostics for me without charging, and have also given me solid and honest advice on what to do in certain situations. When they do repairs they let me know first, and the prices have been reasonable. I would definitely recommend this place if you need a new mechanic.

I've never had a better experience with a mechanic in my life. My car wouldn't start and the AAA guy told me it was my starter. I called around to a handful of shops and got prices ranging from $350-500. The shops in the lower range couldn't fit me in until later in the week and I need my car to get to work so that was unacceptable and I was about to fork over $500 just to get my car working again. I made one moe call to Fountain Street Auto and was quoted only $270 and told that the work could be done the next day. When I got the quote I didn't believe it included labor since it was so much lower than all the other shops but that was the total price.
I've only been there once but the customer service and honesty of the staff really set this place apart. I'd highly recommend this place to anybody.

Brian and his guys are very honest and reliable. I came here-actually i towed my car here because the alternator failed on me. I had recently replaced it and since i had lifetime warrant i could pretty much get it for free. Brian didnt force me to get one from him or anything and he was very cool about it. They seem very knowledgable about what they do and i will be a regular here! Also they are AAA certified so if you get towed by AAA they would take you here if you're close! A big plus for me!

I actually started bringing my car here a couple years ago when I realized my dealership(aka stealership) was robbing me blind and recommending services that weren't needed.(I came here for a 2nd opinion and Brian was totally cool and honest about what was needed and what wasn't). I most recently came here for my car's 60k service and I also had the rear brakes serviced. I saved about $250 compared to my dealership's prices for the same services. Only downside for me is that I work out of state, so I usually have to rent a car when I bring my car here. Anyway, to sum this up, these guys are honest and charge fair prices. As long as I'm in the Philly area, this will be the only place that I bring my car to.

I just bought my car here for the first time. This shop is great. The communication was really good. They send you a really thorough questionnaire before you come in, which is very helpful. I don't know much (anything) about cars, but I own one, and on occasion, it needs a fixin'. I found Brian and the great folks at Fountain Street Auto when I first moved to Philly and asked a friend where she took her car for service, and I've been coming back to them ever since. I bring my car to Brian for everything from the standard oil change to weird noises or gas tank/engine/brake issues. Every time he fixes the problem and gives me what I can only believe is a fair price.
There have been a number of times where I brought in my car for service and Brian will say "Hey, this thing looks fine, but will probably need to be replaced in about a year or so but you're perfectly safe driving as is." and I really appreciate that honesty instead of just fixing/changing something for the sake of making an extra buck (hello dealerships.)
Brian has totally earned my trust and on a number occasions has completed minor work at no charge. So, if he tells me my flux capacitor needs replacing, I'll believe him.
As a pointer, this is not the type of place where you should expect to sit there while they fix the issue. They handle a large volume of cars each day so it's best to call ahead and make an appointment. Then drop your car off for the full day. Don't worry, you'll hear from Brian with an update on the status before the end of the day and he'll always confirm pricing before he completes the needed repairs.

I came to this shop to have my 2006 Nissan Xterra fixed for a SES light. I had a P0430 code. I apple with Brian and he definately diagnosed the problem rather quickly. After making my decision on which repair plan to go Brian quickly went to work and got my Nissan Xterra fixed within 2 days! Pricing was fair and decent. Definately will return again.

Love coming here. The guys work really well together and are always figuring out things together. When you see a business that works together well, stays focused on the job, and are upbeat, then that's a keeper business. Way to go. Prices are competitive and fair. Definitely worth coming here, and they've always taken me in on short notice.

I went to another auto shop to get an oil change. They inspected the car and said I had a tear in my boot axel and should get it fixed right away. I was a little sketched out by the place so I brought it here. They called me back right away and told me it was a tiny hairline tear that wouldn't need to be fixed for 5 years. They didn't charge me a dime for looking it over. This place is extremely honest and doesn't try to screw over their customers. I will be going to them for every repair I need in the future.

Was looking for a nearby non-chain auto repair, and the reviews for Fountain Auto Repair were favorable. Brian was very helpful in pricing out things he could (I had alot of little stuff to tend to)and then called me before embarking on some exhaust work and said he'd call if the AC had more needed than Freon added. Very pleased! The total was less than I was told.A+++

We've brought our cars in a few times for regular service since my last post and for one big problem. We had a problem with the electrical system after the after market car starter installer we took our truck to for a system reset screwed it up. The AAA battery truck couldn't figure out the problem after taking a crack at it for an hour and a half. The tow truck driver couldn't figure it out either. Brian called us early the next day and told us the problem (alternator) and double checked the lines for a short just in case (that's what the AAA battery guy thought - he was wrong). Had our car back to us quickly and at a fair price. I'll continue recommending these guys for their great work!

These guys have been excellent! Especially Brian. He even took pics after my brakes were changed and emailed them to me. Gives much better prices than meineke or midas and his warranties are longer. They accidentally locked my keys in the car, but changed the oil for free for the inconvenience( I lived down the street so not a huge deal, but still scary). All around excellent customer service and proactive with cars and quotes. I don't think many other auto shops would work the way they do. Very honest, transparent, and trustworthy. when I made the horrible decision of living in manayunk and leaving the city, I found this place. I have no had such a personable, reliable, friendly staff. They are incredibly honest and realistic. No one ever likes paying for anything that has to do with car repairs but I always felt they had fair prices.
Not to mention, the owner was able to deal with my over-the-phone,ten hours away, out of state, crazy italian father that had seven hundred questions, comments and concerns.
When I moved back into the city, I still used fountain street auto.
Now, that I no longer live in Philly, I refer them to all my friends.

Update: Sep 19,2014
Initially I wrote a review that was not flattering. You can read that below I still gave 2 stars, because I felt the people were good people, but they were the wrong people for my Honda. As a small business, no one like to receive criticism, especially if there is truth to it. How a business chooses to handle it, says something about the business as well. Yelp even gives the business the opportunity to make amends if they want make things right. There is 30 reviews here so far. As you can see from the date, I wrote back in March 22, 2014. As of my writing, 1/6 of it that is not in the filter (which are 5 reviews), came after my bad review. That's 17% of the reviews here all which arrive here in Sept 2014, which is very telling since the 30 reviews date back to 2009. Whether these reviews are true or fake, I'll leave Yelp and its filter to decide. What I can say, is rather that deal with a bad situation that DID HAPPEN , Fountain Street Auto Service has chosen to sweep this situation under the carpet by flooding it with good reviews. No amount of good reviews (even if they are all true) will erase the facts of this review. As a result of this action, I downgraded my star rating from two to one. There would have been a better chance of revising my star upward had they been unhappy that I was unhappy, not unhappy because I gave them a bad review.
Inital review below
:{
Sorry, but I gotta go with the outliers here. Yes, I think Brian and co. are nice people and not out to rip you off, but my experience is a disappointment with them. I dropped my car off near them. At the time, I thought it was a battery issue and didn't know a lot of mechanics, so I had trouble communicating what else could be wrong with my car. I drop them off, not before I saw the Yelp reviews, but that is was AAA recommended. The 4 1/2 average on Yelp was gravy. I felt relieved.
The first red flag is they are terrible when it comes to calling people back on status of the car as several people have mention. Brian first told me he give me a call in the morning. It was afternoon when I called him just to know what was wrong with the car. It was a belt issue, that had loosened which is the reason for the dead battery. He was going to replace and have a new belt by the end of the day. So, I told them to call me when they were finished.
Turns out by the end of the day, they weren't finished. They hadn't even found the right belt to begin with. Brian was on his 3rd try searching for it. I would have to wait next day for it, but he told me I would have it in the morning and he call me when I have it.
I waited till afternoon for him to call me and only then, he told me they replace the belt. He just want to double check the battery. He was done a little later but neither he nor the secretary called. I had to call them by the end of the day to find out the car was good to pick up.
I would overlook their poor ability in calling me back and give this a 4 like everyone else, if the situation ended there. The belt expense was cheaper than most and the car drove fine initially. But in LESS THAN 24 HOURS, the car broke down again when I got on 76. It turns out there were other problems besides a bad belt. When the belt slipped, enough damage happened to the engine and were now the culprit of why my car wasn't working. I found this out with my new and now-trusted mechanic.
They are cheap, friendly when you talk to them, maybe they are great when its basic needs or a simple tune-up. But with my Honda, they seem over their head that I would never trust them after that and given than I am not the first to complain they don't call back on a timely manner, they really need to step that up. I understand a broken car is a everyday issue for them but its not for their customers and they need to understand it and take the calling back a little more seriously.}

Love this place! I have been bringing my car here (first was a Honda, then a Nissan, followed by a ford and finally a mazda.... They know their cars!) for multiple years (since 2008).
We have recently moved to FL, but took a road trip back to Philli for a family visit, and while we were here we call fountain street auto to see if they could give us a full look over before heading back to FL (we only had 1 day available for them to look at the car, and they took it no problem!)
They were able to take care of all of out issues and safely send us on our way back to FL! I can only hope that we can find a fair, reliable, honest and friendly family owned mechanic like them in FL. The big companies just don't have the guest services that the family companies do, and most family mechanics try to rip you off!!!
All in all love this place and think everyone should use them! Thanks again fountain street for all you have done for us!

I cannot recommend them enough. Every time I've been here, my bill has been hundreds of dollars less than what I expected. On two occasions, they've even recommended other specialty shops when they knew it would save me money, and gave me a discount after paying for a large bill with cash. They're very good about keeping in contact and updating you about the status of your vehicle so you don't end up with any surprises. If needed, with your permission, they'll look for a good quality used part before charging you for a new one.
Oil change is $31.95. Period. No shop fee, no extra charge per quart of oil. If I remember correctly this is nearly $20 less than the place that recently opened across the street from Wawa.
Full inspection is $69.95. This may be a bit higher than the average, but is good in the long run because if your car fails and you fix it and bring it back, they'll re-inspect it for no additional charge.

I brought my car in to install 1 tire (i supplied tire) and rotation. When i dropped car off i didnt get an estimate which i didnt mind because i knew this kind of labor doesnt deviate a lot. When i picked up car i found the install was $22 (average-good price) and rotation was $20 (usually this is $10 at most $15 and sometimes free). I sighed but i didnt mind too much except later i look in trunk and my spare was hastily tossed in. If youre going to overcharge me rotation then at least put spare away properly. Job took half a day and my trunk is very tidy by the way (one small bag one med bag one small box).

When you think Auto Service and Mechanics if the words honesty, fair deal and integrity don't come to mind, then you need to be taking your car to Fountain Street Auto! Because Brian Bishara, the owner, has been all those things to me for 15 years and counting. I drove a 1991 Mazda Protege for 23 years and I swear a big reason why the car lasted so long was because Brian was taking care of it for me.
He never over charged. He never speaks down to you because you're a woman, he never replaced anything unless it really required it . He even helped me dispose of the Mazda when it finally gave up the ghost and offered to look over my next purchase to make certain I didn't get stuck with a lemon.
All the staff has been courteous and efficient over the years, they always call when promised. I almost always had my car back within a day. I know this sounds too good to be true, but it really is a top notch shop!

Glad other people found this place to meet their needs. Maybe I'm an outlier. Took car in multiple times due to overheating. Needed a radiator after it cracked because they could not find anything wrong on initial exam. Took the day off so I could get my car before they closed. Time went on, no calls. More time passed. No call. Finally had to call them just to confirm I could pick it up that day, per their estimate. Brian tells me they ordered the wrong part. Didn't bother to tell me. Also when I finally picked it up, the battery was dead because they did not hit the alarm kill switch. No thanks. Nice guys but would not trust them to fix my car again, too many sloppy mistakes.

Finally and Honest mechanic!!!
Our 2005 Nissan needed state inspection. We took it to a Family own shop on Lancaster ave in Wayne, Pa. The girl there said it failed and the father said it needed $1000.00 worth of service. A friend said to take to Brian. We did after an inspection of the vehicle he said it passed as is, but said the rear brakes were low and would need to be replace soon. So we had them replaced while we waited . The car was inspected and the cost was minimal to what the other shop quoted.
I believe Brian and Fountain street auto is and honest and a competent full service
Auto repair shop. And now has a new customer.
BTW the car is owned and driven by a women.
And this review was posted by me a close friend and
former ASE mechanic.

I wanted to have a great experience with Fountain Street Auto Service, but they just didn't allow it to happen. I made an appointment, but apparently that just gets you in line when you arrive behind whatever other appointments are made. Then my car sat all day waiting for new tires. At the end of the day, they did not have the tires, and I would have to bring it back. Delivery issue. I understand, but I can get tires elsewhere where they're actually in stock. The worst part is that I told them what tires I wanted when I called to set up the appointment. I have not been back.

The folks at Fountain Street auto do great work and provide great service at a reasonable price. A lot of auto repair shops will try to up the prices and do add-on's, but Fountain Street provides products and services at a fair and reasonable price. Brian, the co-owner, does a great job of making sure his guys are doing great work and they are proactive in making sure your car keeps on going. I have been here a few times. Very friendly staff. There not there to rob you. Also never had a problem with the work the did but that where the compliments stop. The only times I took my car here is for inspection. Inspection on a car should take a day max. This place takes forever. first time It took a week for my car to get totally fixed partly my fault cause I gave them wrong tire size but I'm not a mechanic so we are both to blame but this time I took my new car for inspection and then I finally realized it wasn't a one time thing... They never call you after they inspect it to let you know the deal and whenI dropped it off in the morning it should be done at the end of the day, don't tell me you have to much work, if that's the case schedule my inspection for a day you can get it done. People DEPEND on there car and need there car not have it sit in auto repair lot for a simple inspection!if they where a little more organize and didn't take on so much work I might go back one day!

What a breath of fresh air! I took my car to get inspected and for an oil change last week. They were prompt, courteous, professional, and I didn't have any unforeseen costs or pressure to have anything extra done. The owner and his dad (co-owner) seem incredibly trustworthy, and they do good work. I'm going back to Fountain St. Auto for everything -- they'll keep my car running well for a long time, I predict.

I'm really happy that so many of my friends recommended this mechanic shop. I took my car there for the first time, and I'm not going to go anywhere else. They got me in same day, fixed my car and gave me the honest truth! The AAA discount was a bonus! Everyone I spoke to there was amazing and nice. I highly recommend going there!!

Fountain Street Auto is one of the most reliable, dependable shops you will find. I have been to plenty of places that will charge $300 to replace a rear view mirror, and this is not one of those places. Brian will give you an honest assessment of the problem and tell you what needs to be done. Most recently, my check engine light was on, my car had an extremely rough idle and would not exceed 2,000 RPMs. The AAA tow truck told me that I might need to replace the transmission. Yikes. After the guys at Fountain St replaced my O2 sensor for far less than the cost of transmission work, my car sounds better than it has in 6 months.

About a month or so ago my car was borked, the winter approached, and I was but a poor twentysomething. I described the problem I was having to a few people including the AAA tow guy. (The place was recommended by AAA) Everyone said probably fuel pump.. which I imagine would have cost a few hundred to replace.
I'm kind of an auto-tard. Also a poor negotiator. So... I got to Fountain Street Auto Service and said oh hai I probably has bad fuel pump. Pretty much invited them to charge me hundreds of dollars. Instead I get a call a few hours later saying it's just a loose air hose and it'll be $40-something.
I took my car back again for my inspection/oil change/etc and so far so good. Pretty good stuff. Also Brian at the front desk looks like JD from Scrubs so that's fun too.

AWESOME!! Fabulous customer service and great prices, they took my car in right away and kept me informed throughout the day on the status of repairs. They even stayed open late for me to pick up my car after work!!! Would absolutely take my car back again and I recommend it to anyone not looking to haggle and drive all over for great and reliable service!

Do not go to this auto repair station. Went here on Monday after a friend referred them to me. Took it in because my engine was smoking. The owner told me I needed an oil change because I had a hole in my oil filter and that's why my engine was smoking because the oil was leaking all over my engine. They did the job and Brian said if anything is wrong, just bring it back and we will fix it. Well I thought everything was fine until yesterday when my engine started making very loud knocking noices. Today I went back to the shop only to have Brian say "Oh we don't do engines". I drove it (praying it wouldn't cease on me) to the nearest gas station. I called the owner, Brian and asked him for the oil filter that had the hole in it, and he said he threw it away. My husband went down to get the receipt stating there was a hole in the filter and Brian refused to write one up and then said he had the filter. I called him on the phone and he completely denied ever telling me that the oil filter had a hole in it. Then he said he didn't throw the filter away. He told me that he never said their was a hole in the filter, he was just changing the oil. If their wasn't a hole in the filter then why throw it away. My engine on a 2006 Ford Escape is completely ruined because of their faulty workmanship. He should own up to his mistake and not lie to me. He pretty much hung up on me and now I had to rent a car because mine will cost a fortune to fix. DO NOT GO HERE....

I've been taking my vehicles to Fountain St. for about 10 years. That's because they are reliable, friendly, honest and fairly priced and isn't that all you can ask for from a repair shop? Not really a whole lot else that needs to be said. Talk to Brian over there and he'll get you set straight.

This place is great. I took my car there to get inspections and have them put on a side view mirror that i bought. During the inspection they told me i need 2 front rotors and brakes. They actually brought me into the garage and showed me, which i thought was pretty awesome. They wanted me to know they werent BSing me. Since this made the inspection take longer, they drove me to my job about 5 miles away. When I went back to pick up my car that day, my total bill was $360.. and he didnt even charge me to put my mirror on. I'll go to this place as long as i live in the area, highly recommended.
