AWD Auto is the best! Prices are affordable, customer service is fantastic (they are so personable), and they are patient in discussing the condition of your Soobie with you. The mechanic didn't even mind letting me hang around to observe. I've had terrible experience with dealerships marking up the prices of parts, but the prices of parts at AWD are very reasonable (even comparable to retail stores). Thanks for taking such good care of us! I know where I'm going to get my head gaskets done... ;)

First and maybe most important, when I arrived I was given a name and a handshake by the guy at the desk! Good first move, makes me like you right off. Second, was given the information regarding the work needed, even though I already new, it was my way of testing them to see if they would try something funny, they passed, the local Subaru dealer did not. Will be going back next maintenance cycle. Great business, I recommend them now. DanB.

Great Subaru Shop! They were so patient with handling everything remotely with me along with my questions & concerns. They clearly told me where other issues were & let me know how the car was doing overall. I live on the East side of the state, and chose to have the car taken all the way to them to avoid dealing with the local dealership since I have a H6, and no other shop near by could handle it if the issue was related to the engine. I suspected issues with the drive chain and lucked out that it was just the fuel pump. Even with towing fees & a rental car, the repairs cost me half of what the dealership would have hit me with! Thanks so much All Wheel Drive Auto!

Stumbled upon AWD Auto while researching timing belt changes, and their website sold me. Good blog articles, thoughtful answers to questions posed, and a real world outlook on maintenance. What is even better is my in-person experience was amazing. These guys really know subies, and approach problems in a systematic, scientific way. There is no bs. When you speak to them you get the idea they are not pushing extra services but only what you need, and let you know what you can hold off on. Got a 12 month warranty on my full timing belt service (full job, all idler tensioner water pump etc) and a few other things they already had a part were old, I was called, and authorized small repairs that were no real extra labor. I am extremely happy to take my car there again even though it's really far out of my way, I would want no other business working on my baby than the thorough, skilled, and pleasant people at AWD auto.

I came across AWD Auto last fall in a Subaru forum when I was researching a DIY head gasket replacement on my 1999 Outback. I was thorough in researching pricing and none of the OEM Subaru dealers in my area were able to get anywhere close to the price of the AWD Auto head gasket kit, even with shipping form Washington. I got in contact with Ken and was very impressed with their timely response to my email inquiries and order submission. Since that rebuild last fall, I've done two other Subaru's, one a 2007 Forester and a 2000 Outback. Both of those kits I also ordered from AWD Auto. The kits are shipped very quickly, and Ken and his technicians are very eager to help if you come across problems with your install. They send thorough instructions and I never had to wait for an email response more than a few hours with questions. These guys know what they're doing and have customer service unlike any dealer or service shop I've ever dealt with. Order from these guys with confidence.

When I turned the wheel (2004 wrx wagon) hard over left or right, I was getting a ker-chunk, ker-chunk sound and feeling. I went to my normal mechanic and they suggested new axles though everything I read on line was related to the differential. Just to get a second opinion I took it to AWD Auto. They identified the problem and noticed some other issues, that frankly, while expensive, not totally unexpected ( Over 10years old and 150K miles). Brought my car in early and they got done before the end of the day and gave me a loaner just in case it took longer.
Friendly, professional, busy! Good signs in a mechanic, especially a subaru mechanic.
Asked some questions about things unrelated to my repairs and received some honest opinions and answers.
I believe I have a new mechanic!

Went in to get a routine oil change for my 02 WRX. After finishing, the guy working at the shop said I had several bad oil leaks that would need to be taken care of as soon as possible. I was then quoted ~$1700 for the repairs. Considering that I hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary regarding my oil levels, I decided to take a look and found that I did have a small leak coming from my oil cooler seal but I noticed nothing else. Afterwards, I took it to two different mechanics (Pacific Rim in Seattle and ANR in Spokane). Both mechanics confirmed what I thought and said it would only cost ~$100. I will never be returning to this shop and recommend that anyone who wants a fair deal take their car elsewhere.

By far one of the best shops you can bring your Subaru to!
I recently called in asking if I could get some oil and an oil filter for my STI, I was kindly greeted over the phone and was transferred over to Ken (the parts specialist) at the shop. Ken was friendly and even kind enough to let me know what oil I should use after breaking in my engine, and what type of oil filter is better than using the stock blue OEM oil filter. I went down and got the oil from them.
As I pulled into the parking lot, I was greeted by Nathan, one of the technicians down at the shop, and I have to say this is one of the kindest, most laid-back tech guy you will ever meet. He even mentioned to me that he could smell coolant coming from my car, so I quickly pop my hood, Nathan comes to check it out, and notices that I was low on coolant. Just taking 5 mins out of his day to say hello and check out my car really meant a lot to me, he saved me on that day by telling me that my car needed coolant. I went back and purchased a 3 liter jug and went to pour the coolant with some water as I got back.
Ben, the service writer is also a well informed guy who knows his stuff when it comes to Subaru's. Also is very easy to talk to, and gives you an honest no bs statement/quote on what needs to be done on the car and what you can expect.
Overall I am very pleased with the shop, and the kind friendly staff that you guys have here! I know for sure I'll be coming back :-)

There was a scratching sound as we started driving our Subaru from a standstill (sound not discernible at higher speeds). Spoke with Rudy in the morning, who suggested bringing in for a diagnosis before scheduling a repair appointment. Latter was a chargeable effort at about $65+ (can't recall exact figure). I was able to get an appointment that same afternoon. Net, after a 30 min wait, they were able to find and resolve the problem (a very small rock had lodged itself in one of the front brake calipers). The icing on the cake - they didn't charge anything, even for the mechanic's time. They will get my future business.

I took my Subaru Forester into All Wheel Drive for a brake pad change in Sep 2015. Today I noticed that my car was making a strange rattling noise. I inspected the car and found out that the right front tire was missing a lug nut and the other lug nuts were loose enough that I could hand tighten them. Luckily I caught this before the wheel fell off at high speed with me and my family in the vehicle. The mechanics normally do a good job but failed to tighten my wheel properly following the front brake pad change. This is a major safety issue and something that should not be missed by AWD mechanics.

I brought my Forester here for a check engine light and ended up paying nearly $600 for a new oxygen sensor and radiator tubing + coolant. (they noted in my receipt that the mass air flow sensor was working properly) Of course they tried to offer several unnecessary procedures which i turned down including a new battery (which i replaced about 3 months prior...)
All was fine until exactly one moth later when another check engine light came on and it happened to be the same exact code. I brought my car in again and now they said that my mass air flow sensor was shot and needed to be replaced.
They estimated the replacement to be around $500!! I declined the repair because I knew that an OEM replacement mass air flow sensor costs $30-$40 and all you need to replace it is a screw driver. ANYONE with the knowledge of lefty-loosey, righty-tighty could do this for under $40...
Moral of the story, if you have minimal knowledge about cars, STAY AWAY! They WILL take advantage of you over and over again.

We moved to the Eastside and I was worried we would begin to pay more for work on our cars. We called these guys, and set up 150 mile maintenance. We found out my husband had a leaky head gasket, and we needed work done. It was going to be a lot of money. In fact, I couldn't buy my prescription glasses that month, because we had to cut corners in the budget. Yikes!
They were upfront about their prices, and I called our old place, to double check their prices. They were only $100 difference. What sold us was the rental my husband was able to use while the car was getting worked on. That saved me trips into town.
At the very end, my husband called and mentioned that his light wasn't working in the dash. Kevin mentioned it would be another hundred. My husband said, "forget about it." When he arrived to pick up the vehicle, they told him they fixed it for him. I thought that was great customer service. We will be going there again.

This place is beyond excellent! My husband and I have been taking our Subarus to All Wheel Drive Auto for several years now, and we live in Greenlake. It's a little hike, but ALWAYS worth it! The staff there, Kevin and team, are highly knowledgeable; they take their time to explain and educate me on my car issues; they are kind, friendly, funny and HONEST. And I just recently had my car towed to their shop for an issue I thought would be big; Kevin came back to me and said "nope, it was a very minor issue, quickly fixed", and I only owed the very small cost of diagnosing the issue (less than $60). After this last experience, I decided it was time to finally write them a review, as I seldom ever write reviews. And prior to going to All Wheel Drive, we used to take our cars to the Subaru dealership for maintenance which cost significantly more (at least 50% more) than All Wheel Drive. This shop is also priced fair/reasonable. And...they are Subaru experts. I can not recommend them enough.

Made the trip out here for repairs on my Subaru because the quote AWD gave me was significantly less than quotes from other shops. They gave me a free loaner (necessary as I neither work nor live near the shop) and completed the job on time. When I came back to pick up the car they informed me that the job did not take as long as expected, so my price was much less than the original quote! They also adjusted a steering component that was making noise and didn't charge for it since it was quick and easy.
Even through this shop is very inconvenient for me to use due to the location, their value and service will have me coming back next time my car needs some love.
Also, if you are on their mailing list you will get coupons for extra dollars off your services.

It's been several months now since my major 60k service. My car ran flawlessly previously. Since this service, however, my car now stalls. It's stalled in the middle of traffic. I took it back and after a days effort, they were not able to find anything. Although I wasn't charged, I was also out of luck. Taking it to the dealership found much the same answer.
I was hoping an independent shop, specializing in AWD vehicles would be able to find the answer. Not being a mechanic myself (as I'm sure it's the reason we all go to mechanics in the first place!) I can't tell if it's wrong parts, misaligned items or what.
Disappointed.

AWD Auto is fantastic. I generally do not trust auto shops and do most of the maintenance myself on our vehicles. The 60k service came up and I didn't want to take on the spark plugs because of the labor involved and location. Everyone at the shop was incredible, and was open and honest on the work being done, what work to look at in the future and parts to watch out for, but didn't need immediate attention. I never felt like I was being upsold at all. The prices were fair, and were 35% less than the dealer while still using genuine parts. I highly recommend AWD Auto, and will continue taking our Subaru to these guys for major service intervals.

After the pain staking decision to drop a six speed into my car along with non OEM mods (don't really recommend) AWD Auto managed to make my car run and prep it for the next final stage, SOOO excited.
Also, they fixed my brother's car who treated it like a lawn mower. They provided a warranty for the parts and labor, kept it OEM and my brother's legacy runs like the day she rolled off the assembly line. Whether or not he treats it better is a different story. I come from a family of 8 Subarus, going back to our first '87 L wagon most in New Your State but I've had 2 here, and one for my mom. AWD Auto is the best independent Subaru repair shop I have worked with. They are also the only people I trust with my Subarus, as their skills and attention to detail are significantly better than what you get out of the standard dealership experience.
Here is why I think that. My 2010 Subaru Outback had a CVT Transmission failure on August 26 2014. I had it towed to my dealership, Roy Robinson, where they essentially told me it was due to a lack of maintenance (despite the fact that they maintained it!) and that it would cost $8100 to replace the transmission - this is at ~95,000, and 4 months after 90k service that they performed
I contacted AWD Auto for a second opinion, Ryan helped me, and once I got them the relevant records they did confirm that the dealership analysis was most likely accurate.
However they also guided me to double check my maintenance records, and see what was actually done on the CVT during my 90k. By explaining the situation to Ryan and working closely with him (for free on their part!) they helped me figure out that Roy Robinson had failed to maintain my transmission correctly and that I should contact Subaru of America for support on the issue.
Subaru is now looking at my issue and working with me to get to an outcome, no word yet but I am hopeful.
So the reason I am giving AWD auto is not just for the work they have done for me (which has always been great) but for the exemplary way they support their customers when they are not being paid, and for helping them when they truly need help, regardless of the outcome or if it's related to work they are even doing.
So in closing AWD auto's willingness and interest to consult on a problem, and take a personal interest in the outcome is miles beyond what you would get out of a standard dealership service department. Highly recommended!!!! 5 stars!

I was searching for an independent Subaru auto shop other than the dealership. With the help of Yelp searching and my fellow Yelpers, I decided to go here. Turned out to be a great experience.
I only got an oil change for now. I scheduled an appointment, but got there earlier. They said it will take 45 mins to get done, but I think it only took 30 mins, maybe faster (I wasn't keeping time) Price was competitive, but definitely more affordable then dealership.
Another note, I could tell they are all Subie enthusiast!
Thank You All Wheel Drive Auto!

I have been going to these guys for around 3 years now, and I can honestly say they are the best when it comes to helping you with your Subaru.
I recently traded in my STi and went for a Jeep Wrangler (Subi owners, pls don't hate), but still took my vehicle in for servicing to them because of one word: Trust. Though their core competency is Subaru, the guys at AWD Auto still offered basic service for my Jeep (e.g. oil changes, tire rotation, etc.). Although long-term repair work/maintenance will require dedicated Jeep techs, Justin, Ryan, and the crew have set the bar high in my opinion of what a great auto shop SHOULD be.
When I had brakes done on my STi a couple years back, the dealership just quoted some overinflated price, with no breakdown of the costs. When I brought my car into AWD Auto, Ryan took the time to break down the costs, explain how the brake job was going to be done, and even showed me the parts that were going to be ordered and how those parts were more cost-conscious while being better in quality to what the dealership was going to dole out to me. Additionally, after the brake job was done, I was shown the old brake pads and how the wear had occurred over time, and finally given some tips about things to make note of for the future. While not all people may be as passionate for their vehicles, they indulged me in taking their time out to give me the details I needed to feel confident/take pride in my STi, which hey, was lightning on wheels, let's just be honest :)
If you own a Subaru vehicle and care about its longevity, take it to a crew of guys who share that same passion. I highly recommend All Wheel Drive Auto!
To Justin and the crew: top class, and keep rocking!

If you're as cynical as I am, you believe that auto mechanics, in general, as about as trustworthy as used car salesmen and politicians. But my recent experiences at AWD Auto have restored my faith in humanity!
Four months ago I chose AWD Auto to perform major surgery (head gasket replacement and timing belt change) on my trustee 8 year old Subaru. The service was top notch. The work was priced competitively and completed quickly. I was given a loaner car, and Ryan even fixed my keyless entry remote, on the house.
But when my engine started to make a clicking sound with acceleration a couple weeks ago, I was afraid that it was going to require another complicated repair. Ryan and they guys at AWD disassembled the engine and found the culprit, a damaged connecting rod bearing. Even though it was unlikely that the damaged bearing was related to the head gasket replacement, Justin (the owner) decided to fix it free-of-charge since I was within 12 months of the head gasket repair. In total, I saved about a thousand dollars in labor and parts. Reading around internet forums, it sounds like connecting rod bearings often fail in the same time frame as head gaskets, and they are usually not directly affected by head gasket replacements. Technically, AWD wasn't obligated to cover the broken bearing, but they did so graciously and voluntarily! These guys care a great deal about having satisfied customers, and they've earned my business for the next 200,000 miles. Highly recommended.

This is a trustworthy shop where they treat you and your car with respect. The prices are reasonable and the service is fabulous. Justin, the owner, publishes useful information on Subaru care and his office team, Ken and Ryan, are knowledgeable and friendly. The shop crew, especially Rosie, is always willing to explain and show you exactly what they're talking about with your car. Rosie is also great with the shuttle service to and from wherever you need to go while the car is in the shop.
They are prompt, helpful and trustworthy. They make me and my 260K Subie feel well cared for and safe. Don't take your car anywhere else!
Thanks AWD!

Seriously the unicorn of wizardly subie genies... I feel like I have found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Have taken all of my Subarus to AWD since I crossed over from a Beemer guy and I have never been disappointed. On countless occasions I have been quoted a price (a reasonable one to begin with) and came in to pick up my love child only to pay less. WHAT SHOPS DO THIS? Not to mention this past visit I asked them to look at my brakes. I got a call from Duncan, a genious, who said my brakes were perfect but I had a wheel bearing that had disinigrated like my last relationship. They went the extra mile to get this service done and even get it covered by my extended warranty. I will never buy another non-subaru and I can attribute this to kevin, Ryan and the folks at AWD auto... that is unless they switch to Beemers!
I will recommend these guys to anyone who want a fantastic shop experience. I am so fortunate to have found these guys. Thanks team... Hope to see you "not so soon" unless its for something fun ;)

If you have any knowledge of your car I would recommend staying away. They will try to take advantage of you. Recently moving to the area from the east coast I was in search for a honest local mechanic as I had one back east for 10+ years. I've even worked for him as a service writer and shop manager as well. With that knowledge I usually put shops to the test on honesty integrity and cost. First off I asked for hour rates as they weren't posted then they told me it was variable based on the job. Which is silly cause you just add more time to a flat posted rate if the job is problematic. On this instance I wanted an estimate on a window motor replacement on my front passenger door. The answer was abysmal. It was roughly in upwards of 600 dollars. They were trying to charge me nearly 300+ for the part and @ 3 hrs for the labor. The labor time for this via shop key is 1.2 hrs and an oem part is roughly between 80-140 bucks. An honest est. Would have been no more than 250 bucks. It's ok I ordered the part for 70 and did the job myself in an hour. Best way to test a shop is if you know accurately what might be wrong with your car like you know your axle boots are ripped. Go get an oil change and ask them to review your car. If they come back with an accurate and honest evaluation that matches your knowledge of the work that your car may need then you may have found a place. Such accurate and honest place I found was Lioe's automotive in beacon hill. If you got work that you can't handle yourself and don't mind the trip go there.

First off anyone knows, that if you put a new battery in there and tested the voltage you would know right off the bat it was alternator?? There was never any clicking ever when going through this experience. I have some knowledge of cars.
In fact when I asked about the assessment charge, the guy helping me whispered and said well next we'll give you a discount like I was some kind of child.
I never rolled the window in my car so therefore was not my fault either. Yet you decided to bill me for the inconvenience.
AAA never replaced the battery, my battery was charged up and put back in. I have since reported AAA's experience back their office for the inconvenience they caused the shop and me.

AWDA totally deserves five stars. I've been taking my 2013 Legacy 3.6r Limited for service for a while and they've worked on oil change, diff fluid change and power steering flush on my car. Their price is fair and work is quick and good. If you tired of long waiting and slow service, bring your subaru here. For me, I even bring my wife's 2013 Santa FE AWD here;)

Just went here for an alignment today, and Kevin and Russ were awesome. I'm an avid car enthusiast, and Russ came frequently recommended online as the go-to guy for Subaru alignments.
Aside from doing regular maintenance on Subarus, these guys are mod-friendly, so they were happy to give me the more aggressive alignment that I requested on my car (compared to normal settings). Russ had the job done in under an hour and provided the printout from the alignment machine detailing what settings were changed, and Kevin was very adept in explaining everything, plus he pointed out that my steering rack bushings were worn and suggested some upgraded replacement parts. Overall, the guys at this shop seem totally chill and competent - I'd brave the terrible traffic to head back there next time there's a job I can't tackle on my own.
And to top it off, they were the only shop in town willing to sell me the special gear oil that I needed by the liter and at a reasonable price - the dealer would only sell it by the 5-gallon drum.

Just came here today for my Subie's checkup and oil change and my rating remains the same... this place ABSOLUTELY ROCKS. They are so nice and thanks to them, my Subie runs like a dream. If you have an all-wheel-drive car (or a Subaru, which, really, you have no excuse not to), you NEED to bring it here for its regular maintenance.

What can I say?! I called them originally looking for a window switch for my subaru. Got to talking about work my car needs, including head gasket repair.
$1495 he said, I said "huh, really?", yes he said, and we'll have it back to you in 2 days.
Well Carter Subaru (frankly the best dealership for subaru in the area) gave me a quote of $1900 plus it would take them a week!
Given other issues that crept up in the recent cold spell, and knowing more cold was on the way I bit the bullet and took it in, after all I have the only AWD car in the family and if we needed to get anywhere my car needed to run.
They inspected it and took the engine out. I had ordered some hoses from Carter Subaru and Ken had them delivered to AWD Auto along with their other deliveries which saved me a trip and almost $10 on both hoses (30% off!).
As they took apart my engine to repair the head gaskets he noticed some other things that didn't get replaced when another shop did my timing belt and water pump.
He offered to fix them all now with zero labor, even replaced a few hoses for free.
When all was said and done they found on my test drive my power steering pump was leaking. He hooked me up with a lightly used one saving me $300 on the part alone. He also didn't charge me any additional labor to put it in.
I had mentioned to him my need to get the work done but my tight wallet not allowing me to do everything they wanted. Ken went absolutely above and beyond by after the fact working with pricing to try to keep the end number as low as possible.
I am so happy with the work they did, how they went above and beyond to accommodate my budget, and I even got a loaner car!
I will never recommend another subaru repair shop to anyone else, ever. Now I can keep my paid off car for another 10 years, it drives better than when I bought it!
Thank you Ryan, and Ken and all the guys at All Wheel Drive Auto. It's cheeky but You Saved Christmas!

I'm just gonna pile on to the other five star reviews for this place. After having a terrible experience at Eastside Subaru, I found this place (on Yelp) and I'm pleased at the level and quality of service.
You can tell this is an AWD drive kind of place because I can't imagine getting any other car up that driveway without scraping the underside.
Everyone I've interacted with at AWD has been courteous. Wait times have been reasonable and prices seem pretty good. These guys are nuts about Subarus! Ryan gets an A+ for emailing me some cool youtube videos of Ken Block drifting.
I hope they eat Eastside Subaru's lunch all day long.

We have a 2006 Impreza. These folks have been our mechanic for 4 years. They are always able to get us in promptly and take the time at the end of the day to clearly explain what they worked on. When we notice something running differently they are happy to do an inspection. If they find something, they tell us and fix it. If they don't find something, they tell us and don't charge us for the inspection or try to make up work that we don't need. We feel that they're honest mechanics that do a good job taking care of our subie.
Our only complaint is one time when we picked up our car they had put license plate borders on that had their company information on it. I personally feel people should pay me if they want me to advertise for them, so I had them take them off the next time I was at the shop, and they've never reappeared.

This was the second time in about 2 weeks I've brought my car in, and the second time they've well surpassed my expectations and performed... dare I say... perfect service. I have an Outback XT, which has the smaller 2.5L standard braking system, instead of the upgraded Legacy GT system that would match the car. I wanted to put the better brake system on, and out of all the shops I called, they were the only ones who knew about the details and asked the appropriate questions to make sure the job would work. All other shops said something like"Sure I guess we can do that, don't know how and we've never done it, but bring it in and we'll figure it out..." NO thanks... Ryan at AWD asked which wheels I had to check clearance and knew the details of the job without hesitating. Yet again, they are the best Subie shop I've EVER been to... really the best SHOP I've ever been to. I've already recommended them to all my Subie owning friends.

I've only been there twice for minor repairs, but from what I can tell, these guys are nice, honest, knowledgeable and have fair prices. I wanted to give these guys 5 stars but I think they need to work a bit more on their discovery and communication process with their customers...
I went in there recently to fix my door panel since the rubber lining was lose and causing my door not to shut properly. So I left my car there for them to look at it. I was expecting them to call me first BEFORE completing the work to let me know what was wrong and how much it would cost to fix properly. Instead, they just went ahead and fixed it and called me when it was complete. It only came to $73 so I wasn't worried about it. I worked with Kevin at the front desk and I was told that they also added new clips so it shouldn't come off again. Kevin overall is very nice and pleasant to work with.
However, when I left and got home to close the door, the rubber around the door panel came lose again immediately. It seemed as if nothing at all was done to the door panel from my perspective. Obviously this was more than frustrating that I had to take my car in again the next morning. I took it in the next day and spoke with the person who worked on the car and he actually said they didn't add new clips, but simply took off the door panel and just made the adjustment, so there was obviously some miscommunication on their end. I spoke with Kevin again and he told me it was going to be $24 for the parts and they weren't going to charge me for labor. I honestly think that if they did a proper discovery and testing of the problem the first time around, they would have suggested the new rubber lining and clips were needed and I wouldn't need to be here again dealing with the issue. I asked if they would cover the part costs as well and they agreed, so I was pleased with that at least.
Bottom line, these guys seem like they are honest and hardworking, but make sure you make it clear to them if you want an estimate first for any work so you know exactly what they will be doing to your car before it's done. There prices seem to be very competitive as well. If I need other work done in the future, i'm confident that i'll be pleased and that this was likely a first time annoyance.

I heard about AWD Auto in a rather unusual way. A friend was driving his Toyota Camry in Kirkland and realized he had a flat, so he pulled into the nearest lot, which happened to be AWD Auto. The crew from the shop saw his problem and went out of their way to help get him back on the road - at no charge. He told me about his experience and suggested this might be a good place to take my 1997 Outback the next time it needed service. I took his advice and have been a faithful customer ever since!

Wow! This has been quite a ride. As I described in my previous review of AWD Auto, I was more than impressed with their professionalism, customer service and flexibility. After they sent me an extremely well documented set of PDF documents describing all things that could/should be fixed on my 1998 Subaru Outback, I went down to the shop. I told Ken that I could only come up with a certain sum of money to pay for the repairs (not really close to the full amount needed to cover ALL of them). He calmly and respectfully worked with me over the next few minutes to pare down the list to what we needed to do to get the car back on the road safely and still do the repairs that you would want to do when the engine is removed from the car (timing belt, water pump, oil pump etc...). There was still the question of whether or not the heads or the block would be warped or otherwise damaged from the overheating which could mean grinding the heads flat and/or replacement of the block - we were crossing our fingers that this would not be a problem but we wouldn't know until the motor was out and disassembled.
We agreed on a price that was within my means and they went to work on the car.
In 2 days, I went down to the shop to see how things were going and see if they were far enough along with the motor disassembly to know about the head/block conditions. Ken brought me out to the garage and introduced me to the mechanic. He had the block on the stand and the heads were on the bench. He was cleaning them up and preparing them to be measured for warpage. I decided to stick around and wait till he was done. While I was waiting, ken and the mechanic walked me through the entire engine, parts and all, giving me a firsthand look at the damaged head gaskets and such. They explained how everything worked in detail. After a little while, the mechanic had finished his assessment on the heads/block and gave them a thumbs up for straightness! WOOHOO, we wouldn't have any additional cost!
Ken explained that they had run into one problem while removing the radiator where the previous owner had used the wrong kind of hose clamps which can be easily overtightened. Someone had tightened them so much that the "snout" of the radiator was broken off inside the hose! This meant that we would need to replace the radiator with a used or new one. He showed me a used radiator that he had already hunted down but said it may not fit and if it didn't, they would have to put in a new one. He assured me that since there were some things that they found when pulling the engine apart that didn't need to be replaced, they would try to work the radiator into the original estimate but couldn't promise if we had to go with new.
I left feeling very fulfilled and happy for their honesty and continued above average customer service.
That night he called me and told me that the used radiator didn't fit so they had to install a new one but, not to worry because he had worked it into the original cost. He said that in the morning the mechanic would have it all put back together and take it for a test drive.
They called me first thing the next morning and said the car was working perfectly and we could come and pick it up!
Overall, a wonderful experience end to end! I don't know about you but, one of the hardest things for car owners is finding skilled mechanics that you can trust? I found mine and won't be taking my 2 Subarus anywhere else!
Kudos to the whole crew at AWD Auto. You guys are the real deal in my opinion and thank you for getting my daughter's first car back on the road. I have confidence in the work they have done and now feel she will be driving a safe vehicle. That means everything to me :-)!

I've been taking my Subaru WRX here for a few years now and have always been very happy with their service and professionalism. I dropped by a few days ago because I had battery problems. Without having a scheduled appointment and with a heavy work load already (the bays were all full and each mechanic had about 3 cars to work on) they took care of me while I waited, checking my alternator (it was fine) and replacing the battery with a new one. Thanks again Justin & co!

I had to bring in my 2006 Subaru for the 30,000 mile checkup. It was that time. I had emailed and called around to a bunch of different places to get quotes.
This was the only place that sent me an ITEMIZED quote sheet. Not only that, but they offered a free rental car. Sure, you can get a loaner from the dealership, but it's often more expensive.
When the car was in getting checked out, the owner called and told me that my battery was running a little low. He explained that if the winter was REALLY cold, the car MIGHT let me down. Otherwise, he said the battery replacement could wait until spring. Since I'm a snowboarder and the car goes to the mountain quite a bit, I replaced it. He also made note of a miniscule oil leak on the paperwork. This might not seem like much, but he said he wanted to document it now so that it would be fixed under warranty in case it got worse.
I will be bringing my Subaru back here for it's next service and beyond.

I completely disagree with the reviewer who said AWD Auto has poor customer service. I've always been treated with respect there and considering the social context of most car shops for a woman who knows nothing about cars, I've always appreciated not feeling like I was being talked down to or getting swindled here.
They drive you to work, apologize, refund you, and you still complain about customer service?

So, these guys haven't actually done any work for me - that's why I have to review them.
I *thought* my car was sick - I called, and Justin spent quite a bit of time with me - then I brought it in. By then, it had ceased to malfunction.
Justin (the owner) checked my oil, told me that I didn't have to apologize for wasting his time, and gave me his card.
Great guy - and a less ethical guy would have at least tried the old "you better let us check it out anyway, could be something bad".
Guess where I'm taking it next time I need service, eh?

Best mechanic I have ever had, hands down. I would pay just for their advice and I don't even have a Subaru. They are knowledgeable and will let you know what needs to be fixed in what time frame. I have never had another mechanic as honest as Justin and his staff. I refer my clients and friends to AWD Auto because I want them to have the same experience as me.

These guys are top notch. I had some bad diagnosis' on my 1996 Toyota Landcruiser from multiple mechanic shops that were out to make a lot of cash. AWD was recommended by a friend, and it was a good choice. They found the real problem, gave me honest estimates, were very well priced and fixed the issues in a very timely manner. I didn't get that "I just got completely screwed but there's nothing I can do about it" feeling, and that made me happy. I am one of those guys that knows NOTHING about cars, and they also didn't give me any macho attitude about not taking autoshop in High School either, which is rare for this area.
Professional, friendly and they know their business. I will use them for all my major vehicle needs.

These guys HAVE done work for me! They are fantastic! They honestly care about your Subaru. They know HUGE amounts (Justin the owner, and at least one of the mechanics are former East Side Subaru mechanics who left because the ESS's shady business practices).
If you don't know, they'll tell you what your car needs. They only do what is necessary to keep your car running well. They don't do unnecessary work to jack up the bill. They call you as soon as they find anything unexpected, and discuss it with you clearly so you can decide what to do (and if it's not critical at the time, they will say so!).
I've had some deep engine work done here, as well as a brake job and some oil changes. Today I stopped by to replace a newly blown headlamp bulb, and they installed a new one for free. Zippo. Nadda! Hell, the dealer (see my posting for East Side Subaru) would probably charge you $100, and steal parts off your car in the process.
All Wheel Drive Auto is the place to take your baby! (and I'm not being paid to say so!).

After moving to Seattle over a year and a half ago, one of my first priorities was to find an independent Subaru mechanic. After making the 2,000 mile plus road trip out here, I wanted to get my 2002 WRX checked out. I did an internet search for a shop and after reading several of the stellar reviews for All Wheel Drive Auto, called and made an appointment for an oil change. After checking out the car, they noticed one of the belts was beginning to crack and Ken even took me back into the shop to let me examine the belt for myself. I decided to get the belt replaced and everything was taken care of in a short time and for a fair price. This was a tremendous first impression for me. Everyone there was exceptionally friendly, professional and thoroughly knowledgeable about any and all things Subaru.
Recently, my WRX bit the dust and I was looking at Legacy GT's. After driving several that I liked, I learned that Justin (the owner of both the car and the shop), was going to be selling his 2006 Legacy GT. We spoke several times about the car and he said he needed to do a few things to the car to get it ready to sell and even helped me pick out brand new wheels for the car, which look awesome. I picked up the car two days before Christmas and it was by far the best present I have gotten myself. I have never had a better experience buying a car. Justin was extremely thorough in getting the car ready and meticulous about detailing what he had done to the car since he had owned it.
A huge thank you to Justin, Ken, Ryan and everyone else who makes All Wheel Drive Auto the best auto shop. You are all well deserving of your recent recognition by King 5 Evening Magazine's Best Of Western Washington Auto Repair for 2010.
Thanks again guys!

I had my clutch replaced here a couple of months ago. They quoted me a fair price, showed me the worn plates, and offered me a loaner car (even though the insurance card in my glove box was expired)! The mechanics also hooked up my car to their code computer for free, and after discovering that my car need the safety neutral switch replaced they were able to find the part for 1/2 price and passed the savings on to me! I've never had another shop do that for me on a part before. If you go to their website you can also get a detailed quote by email. These guys got a quality operation. They are professional Subaru experts who are worth the drive to Kirkland!
