It's rare to find a great mechanic that you can trust. I found mine! Tony and Richard are so great and knowledgeable, and very thorough with their explanations. I recommend them to friends who are in the area, all the time. I feel totally comfortable giving them a good review, and am very fortunate I have them to go to when I need some auto work.

I went here for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised to find a very quick and honest mechanic... which is all I want. I would say he's a good mechanic too if I knew anything about cars. What I do know is that I told him I needed a tune-up, oil change, tire rotation, and that my car had been acting a little funny. He told me that I didn't need a tune up and that my previous shop (Jiffy Lube) had been ripping me off.. big time. I ended up leaving with an oil change, tire rotation, and a new cabin air filter... which was a lot cheaper than what I came in asking for. The prices were reasonable and fair.. cheap compared to Jiffy Lube. Everyone working there was very nice. I dropped my car off at 12:15 and had it back at 1:20. It drove perfectly fine after I got it back and wasn't acting funny anymore. I was happy to know that they didn't take advantage of me, especially after I told them that I thought something might be wrong.

Couldn't have had a more positive experience! Got my oil changed and wanted them to look at a rattling of my muffler, which turned out to be a broken gasket. Tony fixed the gasket while the oil was being changed. Whole thing only took 30 min. and was way cheaper than I was expecting after looking up the repair online!

Tony is the best! I have had so much trouble with my car when it comes to passing the smog test. He immediately knew what to do and was so kind, honest, patient, and knows what he's doing! For all the help he gave me and the quality of service, I thought for sure I would be charged an arm and a leg, I thought wrong!!!!! So reasonably priced!!!!
I will go no place else!!!
So thankful and grateful for the wonderful service!!!

I DARE YOU TO FIND A BETTER MECHANIC! Seriously you really can't find a better mechanic. I'm not saying that just cause he is my best friend's dad but because I have never meet a more hardworking, honest, cool as hell, and knowledgable mechanic has Tony. I can really say that I would put my hands on the fire for him. My honda has last me three years with no problems driving 27 miles to and from Santa Monica every day. I agree with Josh T. he is highly recommended!

I am generally very suspicious of car repair places, mainly because I know nothing about cars and can be easily snowed by unscrupulous businesses. My wife took her car here a while back after a recommendation from a customer and was generally happy with the work and service she received.
When my brakes started squealing rather severely a couple weeks back, I figured it was time for some brake work, something I expected was going to cost me in the hundreds. New pads, shoes, whatever, but based on the sound I figured it was pretty bad, and I could have been sold on that level of work.
Tony, though, called me an hour after I dropped off the car to tell me that it was just a case of something or other needing to be taken apart and lubed - $75 total. Sure $75 hurts, but not nearly as bad as I thought it would and I appreciate honesty from a repair business. I will be bringing my car back here next time...

Workers DO NOT lack integrity. Up front with me. Helped me via email, over the phone, in person all wonderfully.
Took my AUDI 2002 there, and it felt alot better after taking t out of there.

I was initially suspicious of the $75 fee just to do a diagnostic, but Tony was upfront about what he would charge and I could have taken my car elsewhere. I stayed due to the other positive reviews, and I'm glad I did. It turns out my stalling out Saturn needed the EGR valve cleaned, and along with that Tony fixed a broken door lock, changed the oil and checked all of the fluids, checked my brakes and had it all ready in a timely fashion for just over $200. Most importantly he did not try to sell me things I didn't need. I would definitely recommend him.

Tony is the MAN. I brought my car in because it didn't pass smog and I received the CAP funding to get it fixed. (Thank you California!) It took some time for me to get all the paperwork together and I was only able to drop my car off in the afternoon on a Friday. I was terrified that I wouldn't be able to get the car fixed over the weekend because my registration had lapsed and I was in danger of getting more fines. Tony couldn't have been more accommodating, I show up on a late Friday afternoon and my car was finished the next DAY. I promised him I would write a great review for him so I am! Car done, passed smog, all is well in my world again. My van is my baby and Tony is now my local mechanic. Seriously, go here. With no qualms.

Although it used be be a part of the attached gas station (Silver Lake Union 76), Tony Hachem, the proprietor of this automotive service business has branched on his own. I was recommended to him by a former boss who lived in nearby atwater village. Tony is wonderful, he will tell you like it is = the truth.
I remember the first time coming there with my old '97 accord after having visited two other places for estimates and to see what was wrong with my car. Well, I told Tony what the other mechanics were telling me including the small bit about my alignment being off and he's says, "Let's take it for a ride." On this test drive, he precedes driving a straightaway and taking both hands off the steering wheel to let me know that the alignment was NOT a problem. I did have problems with my car though. I sold it to CARMAX and put it towards my next car which I've continued taking to him these past two years.
Recently, I had an oil change done at a place closer to my house (Goodyear at 2901 Magnolia in Burbank). The oil change was fine, but the guy recommended for me to get about $400 worth of maintenance work. Shortly after that, I took my car when the brake lights went on to Tony and told him what the Goodyear people suggested to have done before. So he took a look at my car, topped off the brake fluid which triggered the brake light indicator and told me I didn't need any of the items "recommended" by the Goodyear people and sent me on my way without asking for a dime. Because good service brings back good business.
The only negative here is that they don't have a waiting area beyond a white plastic lawn chair overlooking the gas station. I'll usually drop my car off and walk over the the starbucks across the street or down a few blocks further to gingergrass for some lunch while I'm waiting.
This place it great, I can feel like a girl taking my car to the mechanic by myself and not get scammed.

I lucked out when A-1 was the closest certified smog check certified mechanic to my house because that was how I decided to go to there. I just moved from New York and bought my first car (used, a 2000 Jetta) so when it failed the smog check I was really lost. Luckily Tony at A-1 walked me through what to do and how to get the state and Volkswagon, to help me out as much as they can. He even rushed to pickup some break pads for me to make sure I didn't have to wait one more day than I had to to get my car. Now whenever I have car trouble, Tony is going to be the first person I turn to.

I've brought my car to Tony a number of times (it's a 1996 Geo with over 150,000 miles on it) and he's always been honest, fair, and forthright. He's extremely professional and, as the other reviewers mentioned, he always explains what he's found, explains what NEEDS to be done vs. what COULD be done, and lets you make your own decision. His prices are good, and the fact that he's open on Saturdays is a real plus for me. You will not go wrong with A1 Auto. Highly recommended, without reservations.

I love this place! I had a major issue with my car and although it was an expensive fix, it was much less than any other place. Plus, they knew immediately what else needed fixing but never once tried to pressure me into doing it right away or even with them. Everybody there is so nice, and willing to go out of their way to help!

Went here when my smog check failed as it was the only one recommended by AAA in my area. Felt he was honest, could have over charged me and he didn't. Have gone back ever since and have a excellent, prompt service and know I am alsays given a better than fair price.

I would never hesitate recommending Tony to any of my friends and acquaintances in my area, even those from afar. He sets the bar for me in reliable service I can trust. I've been sending my cars to him almost 10 years now since I moved to Silver Lake. He's even been able to diagnose all the quirky things my Range Rover can throw at him. Five stars!
