Worst shop ever

Don't go to this dirty shop. All lies n bull crap. Kevin is a damn liar with his old bad memory employees. I took my car to replace the whole ac system n till this day it still blows warm air until I get on the freeway. Kevin try to say that that's because of the new law regulating ac compressors . I'm not that dumb! I had a little faith when I read the fake ratings they had on their website. Never again dealing with dirty shops like Polar bear ac. Kevin n his employee are liars n thieves . Once they get ur money ur words don't mean crap. Save ur money n go else where. They lost a part to my car too n try to say that it was missing before I took it to them. Still missing till this day cause they can't buy the part. Now I have a broken ac system n missing part n Kevin's lie. I will return until I get my missing part n ac working correctly

Came in about a month ago when my car failed on me for the second time in a month. While two other shops including the dealer had failed to be able to diagnose what was wrong, they figured it out in 30 minutes (only billed me for half an hour of labor) and notified me of a recall that the dealer had also failed to mention.
Relieved that I have found my go-to mechanic in Sacramento. Won't be going anywhere else anytime soon. Thank you Polar Bear for your superior service!!!

Air Conditioning (AC) Repair - Polar Bear Auto Care came with a strong recommendation from a few of the big box auto stores and from the garage I use in Rancho Cordova.
They preformed repairs on my AC unit in a timely manner. When they ran into problems and weren't able to fix my car in one day they offered to pick me up the next day, even though I lived quite a distance away from their shop.
Jessica, kept me abreast of the repairs being completed and walked me through what was fixed using the example AC unit hanging on the shop wall. The day I dropped my vehicle off for repairs she even provided me with directions to the American River Bike Path so I could ride my bike the 18 miles home. Thanks for the information, Jessica!

I had an AWESOME experience with Polar Bear a little more than a week ago. My new (used) vehicle's air conditioning was having an intermittent problem where it would just stop working, and then later start working again, etc. I explained the issue over the phone to Jessica, and was asked to bring it by for diagnosis, as I did. I also asked how much the problem may be, and she said depending on the issue it could be $500-$1,500 to fix. When I brought my car in, however, the mechanic took a different angle with my car and suggested a new relay to see if it fixed the issue. Sure enough, the relay fixed it, and the fix was VERY inexpensive. I know I got really lucky and this is not typical, but I know I also took it to the right shop with the expertise and experience to be able to fix this less-typical issue.

Kevin will lie his way through his mistakes. He will try to work with you but if he can't figure it out he will tell you it doesn't affect anything. I've wasted $2k and got junk from it only. I rather take my car to the dealer than get ripped off here. The owner n employees have an attitude once you start complaining about your repairs. Like every shop, they will be polite but once they get your money it's over with. Like a few reviews , most of these good reviews is because they are friends or family of Kevin. Please think twice before going here.

What a pleasure doing business with an honest company. I had no idea what was wrong with my AC. They certainly could have said anything and charged me whatever since it was triple digits. They also listened to my personal situation. Assuming the repair was going to take two days made me very uncomfortable but what can you do. I received a call at 630pm on day one which was after hours. They let me know my truck was done. It was about the cheapest problem I could have had. Clearly no up charging for the service. They stayed late to get it done for me!

I have taken vehicles to Polar Bear for years now. I am always happy with the customer service, honesty, work completed, completion time, and integrity of this shop. They go above and beyond to make sure customers are satisfied. I recently started taking my wife's Kia Optima here as the dealership warranties expired. Found this out the hard way after first towing it to the dealer, Folsom Lake Kia. Kia told me the alternator was bad, no warranties left. I didn't want to pay dealership mechanic prices and I didn't trust them. I was right not to trust them, I had it towed to Polar Bear and they informed me there was nothing wrong with the alternator, just a bad battery. I'm a pretty tough customer to begin.
I took my 2006 Acura TSX with a major A/C failure to Kevin and Jessica at Polar Bear and I can honestly say I was 100% satisfied with their shop and work!
The customer service, communication, cost and speed of the work was truly impressive. If you have an a/c issue, you cannot rely on the run of the mill repair shop to do quality work. This is why I immediately sought out a shop that knows a/c.
I've seen some of the posts calling Polar Bear 'crooks', but that might not be fair. For those who understand either home or auto a/c systems, they are a closed system and the refrigerant is not a "consumerable" item that gets used up over time. If it's low, then there's a leak somewhere. Any a/c person can tell you this. Refilling a low system is like putting oil in a car that is burning or leaking oil.
While i was there, I had them look at a door lock actuator that was not functioning. They were able to diagnois and repair the problem for me. The cost for this repair was fair in my opinion.

Lexus IS 250 no airflow expect through defrost. Technician determined the problem quickly and ordered the part from Lexus.

Normally, I would avoid anything with "bear" or that associates with cold weather BUT, I came here to redeem my $15 oil change groupon.
Staff was friendly, efficient and I was out in about 30 minutes. There were tons of other people there redeeming groupons as well.
The front desk guy even told me that my car is in pristine condition and that I could do oil changes every 5k instead of 3k. I knew that... but honesty in automotive care seems few and far between these days.
The waiting room looks like someones living room in a suburban home. My people watching entertainment included two girls watching Thai pop videos (without headphones) on their iphones, a breast feeding mother, and a hipster who was talking about spirituality vs organized religion. Good times!

Went here three times. First I went to the Honda shop to have them look at my car because the A/C wouldn't work when it was hot or after the car had been driven for about 30 minutes. Honda was unable to reproduce the failure so they could only recommend I change the compressor and be done with it. Turns out the problem was the compressor, but it was about half price at polar bear.
About 3 weeks later the fuse went out which they diagnosed for free.
Then 9 months later a piece of wood went through my condenser leaking all of the refrigerant which they also diagnosed for free.
I've been impressed with their service and the quality of their work. Keep it up guys.

Took my 08 Honda CR-V to these folks after the A/C decided to quit working over the weekend. A quick google search informed me that CR-V's have a history of A/C compressors and compressor clutches that like to stop working without warning, and apparently my compressor clutch was completely burnt. As other reviewers have stated, I also received a straight-forward diagnosis and a prompt completion of work. I dropped my car off at 08:00 and it was done that afternoon. I didn't shop around, but I believe I received a fair price as it lined up with what others on CR-V owner supported message boards had paid for the same work. I didn't feel taken advantage of at all. I received a very clear itemized list describing what was charged for each part, plus labor, and taxes. The work comes with a 2 year/24,000 mile warranty which is good all over the country due to a service network. I was kept informed of progress and received excellent service. I was also pleased that Jessica took the time to show me exactly what was wrong with my compressor. I'm definitely not mechanically inclined, but I am much more educated with my A/C system now! Good people, good work, good service. Highly recommended!!

I do not recommend this place. Let me preface by saying my experience with them was probably two years ago. Recent events have made me want to post this review.
I paid $50 for a diagnosis. Fine, no problem there. They had good customer service over the phone and all that. Super. I went to pick up the car and they had quoted me $1500. Yikes.
They said that I would need a whole new compressor before they could even begin to get to the root of the problem. They told me my compressor was shot and they couldn't even hook it up to test the system. Well I didn't have $1500 to throw down all at once, so I suffered through the summers with the windows down.
Until recently. I'm blessed to have a man who knows cars. He checked it out and found a kinked metal hose. He replaced the hose and guess what?! Problem solved! But, just to be sure it was completely fixed, we then took it in to another place where they tested the system for FREE and it worked just fine. No leaks, no compression problems and it was running strong and blowing cold. It's still going strong!
So either the technician at the time didn't know what they were talking about, or they wanted to rip me off.

I took in my Ford Taurus for an oil change this morning and had a great experience. My Groupon transaction was smooth (sometimes it's not when you try to use the mobile Groupon) and my wait time was only about 30 minutes even though I arrived earlier than I said that I would.
The waiting room was great and cozy and I was offered coffee, water or even a doughnut! The staff was extraordinarily personable.
I have a friend who has been taking his care to these guys for years and swears by them and I think I might concur.

I took in my corolla for a 45k service, they pointed out that my dealership was trying to over-service/overcharge me. I told them what my dealer wanted to do and they told me to go to the official toyota website and look up what 45k service was. Lo and behold the dealer was trying to do services that were at 60k. Polar bear saved me between $200 and $300 dollars.

I took my daughters care into their shop to see if they could fix the AC as it is not cooling. After their check up they wanted over $1200 for a new compressor. They said it was leaking around the shaft seal and could not be repaired. (I noticed this in another review too) I still had to pay them 60 plus for their checkout. I said no to the Compressor it was out of my budget.
Surprise we took the care into our usual mechanic for service (Hoffman's in Davis) and it was just low on Freon. After a recharge it not only cools great but my daughter says it can be too cold. She drives down 99 in the summer heat.
This looks like a scam routine they do to turn a recharge into $1000 repair.
I suggest you do not use Polar Bear auto you might see them on TV soon for their tricks.

I did not have my car repaired here, but after the great customer service provided by Kevin Bishop, I would go no where else in the Sacramento area. I was trying to get my niece's car evaluated after an accident, to see if it was repairable. Not only did Kevin go to where the car was at another collision repair shop, but went all out trying to get mechanical evaluations on my behalf. He didn't have to do any of this, but helped me out since we were from out of town. If I ever move to the Sacramento area, I will make it a point of making this my auto repair shop, and feel confident that I will be getting the best service!

I had a problem with my air conditioner. They fixed it. I had another problem with it a month or so later. They showed me how it might really not be related to the original problem, nevertheless, they did the additional repair, which took several hours and involved an additional part, and they didn't charge me for that second visit at all.
My impression is that they are really trying to give good service and they care a great deal about their reputation. It also speaks well for them that they continue to be busy, even in the past few years, when a lot of shops are having trouble.

I tried this place out for the first time just for an oil change and 21-point (or something like that inspection). I was able to call them and bring my car in with-in 20 minutes because they were slow. They said it would be about a 45 minute wait and I ended up waiting close to an hour and a half because they put on the wrong fuel filter. I'm glad they told me why it was taking so long and that they were cleaning up the mess of the oil due to the wrong filter being put on. Recently I went to my regular auto shop for my car needs (J&J AUTO in Davis) and my mechanic friend told me that there was oil every where and that they not only didn't go a good job cleaning it up but didn't clean it at all. Also my mechanic had a hard time unscrewing the fuel filter from being put on way to tight and with out putting oil on the gasket. Although the guy working the front desk at Polar Bear was nice and they had a decent waiting room I wouldn't go back.
