I have yet to be disappointed. I usually arrive w/o an appt, panicked, hurried, broke and pushed for time. Their ability to calm is zen-like. Their ability to diagnoise and 'make-it-work' approach amazing. The bill . . . let's just say they fo more for LE$$. They kno

Dishonest Mechanics!
Save your time and save your money. I usually take my car to another mechanic but unfortunately he is located an hour away. My car had stalled on me while I was driving on the freeway and I was in need of a VW specialist, I didn't want to go to the dealer so I had it towed to this place. That was probably one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made. It turns out its one of those shops where they make you believe its worse than it really is because they're money hungry. They gave me an estimate for $3000 which I could not afford and politey told them that I had decided not to repair my car and would be having it towed elsewhere. The owner of the shop kept asking me what I was going to do with it, almost insisting on selling it to him for $400 (keep in mind that its 2003 New Beetle with a turbo engine) ridiculous and unprofessional right? When I had spoken to him on the phone a few days prior to this, he had told me that it would be $300 for the labor they had done...which was nothing because the damn car never got repaired. When I got there it was a different story and he was charging me $425 for four hours of labor when they did nothing to the car. I called a few mechanics after I left the shop and was told that it deffinately did not take them four hours to look at my car. The owner lies about how many hours of labor they actually did to rip off thier customers! Also they didn't even have the decency to put the parts back as they were when I first took my car to thier shop which by law they are required to. I never write reviews but I would never want someone else to go thru what I did with this horrible place. Long story short take your car somewhere else, the owner is a money hungry, unprofessional, dishonest person!

Heading from Houston so Seattle in the heat of July, my transmission failed in Sacramento. At the mercy of the Volkswagen Gods, I found Chet & Cliffs garage on-line and towed the car to the shop on a Sunday. Realizing my dilemma they quickly analyzed the problem and provided an assessment. Stuck in a hotel, waiting to hit the road, these guys provided priority service and helped me get back heading north. I have nothing but praise regarding Chet & Cliff's Garage. They helped me out of a bad situation. Two thumbs up!

Amazing service! I was having some issues with my battery. Went down to have it tested for free at O'Reilly where they told me I had a bad alternator as well. I called Chet and Cliffs and Jeff told us to come by and they could give us a second opinion at no charge. The next day we brought in my vw and within 5 minutes, they diagnosed my car. They told me my alternator was fine it was just the battery. 20 minutes later, I drove from the lot with a new battery installed by Ryan and my car is running great. Diagnosis and labor was free and they squeezed me in right before closing time. Jeff and Ryan were so kind! Will definitely be coming back if I run into any more issues.

Phenomenal service. Owner is incredibly kind and knowledgeable, and provided a lot of useful information about vintage VW beetles. I took a 64 Beetle here to be inspected before I bought it. It was less expensive than other inspections I've had, and the whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable. Plan on making this my home shop for all things vintage VW.

Honest mechanics with honest prices. After getting quoted for a $2000 price for a bunch of stuff the dealership said need to be fixed, Chet and Cliffs got me back on the road for $350. Great place to go for all your vw needs.

Jeff and Ryan are the people I go to out of all the shops in the sacramento area. Responsive and extremely knowledgeable guys. Jeff the owner has been in the VW game for around 40 years. Ryan is a very meticulous mechanic if theres a problem he'll solve it. Ive brought my Jetta and two Gti's here and i can honestly say that I trust them. they never recommend a service unless it is a must, they'll never try to upsell you with some bs service.
Jeff is a straight forward to the point guy which I like he never piddle-paddles around when it comes to business and their prices are extremely reasonable I always check sites like ECS, Urotuning, and VWparts and Jeff is always able to get the best price for me and have the part delivered literally in two hours (ive been to Niello Arden a few times and those guys are insane when it comes to parts + Labor prices). 600$ for a vacuum line? LOL.
Ive been to Kombi haus, Larryz auto works, WRD Tuning, Performance Motor Works, Stephans auto haus. and out of all those great shops I still prefer Chet and Cliff's they have a certain authenticity that you cant replicate.
cheers

The owner is very friendly but the work performed on my vehicle left a lot to be desired. My Audi was brought in for a diagnostic sadly they hooked up a scanner and declared they found the issue. The part was replaced and did nothing and sadly the part that they said needed service had nothing to do with the system I described had an issue! Finally after spending money to fix an issue that was never repaired I decided to do the inspection my self. Within 10 minutes noticed cracked hoses and a leaky purge valve replaced them and my issue was resolved! Very evident they took my money without putting any effort into finding out what my issue was a total waist of time and frustrating which makes me want to ask for my money back! There expert mechanic couldn't find what I did in 10 minutes pathetic.

Found this place driving around Arden close to my work. Love their convenient location and their service stands up to all of the amazing reviews. My VW Beetle had problems starting up, so I brought it in to see what the deal was. It was just a bad battery so luckily an easy fix. They were able to take my car in right away and solved the problem within a few hours. Done! I would definitely recommend their repair services.

Brought our 2004 jetta to another place in West Sac a few months ago because we are always getting coupons in the mail for thatplace. We came in with our coupon and were told we were almost due for new brakes, and we should do them 'today' while the car was in getting an oil change. The brakes had been done not too long ago, so we decided to give it some time.
It's been 6 months and we just brought it into CHET AND CLIFF'S place for an oil change and tune up. We told them we thought we needed new brakes based on what we were told at the other place. Chet and Cliff's checked them and called us back saying our brakes are still over 50% and we did NOT need new brakes.
VERY impressed with the professionalism and honesty of Chet and Cliff's. We will be going there for as long as we have a VW!! Thanks guys!

If you have a VW or Audi this is the place to come.
I'm the original owner of my 2004 New Beetle, and since I've moved to Sacramento been looking for a good VW mechanic. I'm so glad I found Chet & Cliff's. Good prices, and friendly people.
I'm happy to say I've found my VW mechanic, and next time my bug needs repair this is where I'll be.

ok I know I've been a bit behind on writing a review and well here it is.
Everyone that owns a vintage VW knows that taking on a restoration takes time sweat money and tears, hopefully more tears than money especially since parts for these wonderful lil bugs are so hard to find and when you do they'll probably be in worst shape than what you already have, unless you spend big bucks on the NEW stuff out there.
I had taken Wicca (my bug) to another shop for a different not so much of an issue but a preference work that I wanted done when the carburetor (or so I thought) started giving me problems, well let's go back a few years back a bit here. When I purchased Wicca she was in pretty bad shape given that she's 49 years old (just don't tell her that) and well she wasn't taken care of too well by her previous drivers and it all caught up and she started to choke, so this guy from this other shop recommended Chet & Cliff's garage and even offered to drive Wicca there after he was done with the work he was doing, but you just have to read THEIR review to find out who and what other shop I'm talking about.
I received a phone call the same day regarding Wicca and was informed that she was ready to be picked up, WHAAAAAAT that was fast. So I show up at the garage and see Wicca all ready to go and was explained of the work that was performed. we check her out and we start making our way home.
Couple days go by and I decide to take Wicca out for a spin, as we're cruising she starts to cough and tug again but this time it sounded like bronchitis. We make it back to the shop only to find that Jeff is on vacation and won't be in till the following week, B.U.M.M.E.R..
Well we make it to the shop the following week and and she gets looked over and now more work needs to be done, this time the carburetor gets a good cleaning along with some other adjustments to the motor but the coughing and sputtering continues like she just wants to turn over and die, ohhhh man.
Now pretty much the way you work on these vintage cars is that you want to start small and work your way up, you just might get a break and fix the problem without dishing out the big bucks especially if you don't know the history behind the car and how and IF it was maintained.
Minor adjustments are made and she just doesn't want any part of it. I think she needs a new motor and I was also advised that that just might be the issue as now 2 cylinders are misfiring. OK now is the time to say F*@# but hey, just remember that I took ownership and responsibility AND knowingly accepted the challenge of restoring her and that eventually this adventure will lead us to Wicca's return. NOW THAT IS COOL...
So as I make my way home and I make it into the garage I noticed that my brake lights are OUT, I gave Jeff a call to ask if any wires were left unplugged, he just said "bring her back and we'll check it out", this time Jeff and one of the guys start on it as soon as I pull up, they go through all the fuses and wires, eventually they find the problem and get it fixed. No fault of theirs as one of the tail lights housing became loose and there was a short in there.
Working on a car and not charging for it!! In my book you just need to do lil things like this sometimes, it shows the customers what the business is all about, CUSTOMER SERVICE. That's what keeps people going back to them.
Jeff you know I'll be coming back to your garage for the work I need done on Wicca. You have shown to be a TRUE VW man and a great one at that and I thank you for what you and your guys have done.
Now if you're still reading this review then I must say that you are a true VW fan and I commend you for it. Now time for the rating, like you don't already know what it'll be pffffff pfffff.
5 damn well earned stars for the shop and the service. So there you have it people, go check out Chet & Cliff's garage for your VW needs as they have been around for 45 years and counting. Thank you guys.

Took our 2004 Passat to get repaired for a coolant leak. They were super friendly and clearly explained the problem with the car. We mistakenly first took it to a non VW specialist before and they wanted to charge us $900 for repairs. When we heard the price we decided we should double check with a specialist. They eased our fair and repaired it quickly. They're also substantially cheaper than Kombi Haus.
Just want to add that they're actually not on Fulton but around the corner on Tower.

Great and honest service. Jeff has been servicing my VW for almost ten years. Wouldn't let anyone else touch my car. They don't push unneeded repairs and as a female...it's nice that they don't try to pull anything over just because I am 'a girl'. Jeff, the owner, is friendly and always has a story to tell while you wait. He's like your favorite uncle. Because of this place I will always own a VW.

My fam is the original and only owner of a 63 VW bug - still runs like a dream and looks beauty because it's been cared for with love. Jeff and my brother go round and round with jokes, just as my Dad did with Jeff's Dad back in the day. Good service, fair prices, friendly people. Gets our recommendation.
They're temporarily located around the corner on Tower Ave as their shop gets remodeled after a fire in February.

I have been taking mi 2001 Beetle here for years. Just happened to notice them one day when driving by. I trust them much more than the dealer (Nielo) and they fix what needs fixing and do not try to find lots of other things "wrong" with the car like the dealer. Pricing is fair and their work is excellent and they KNOW BEETLES!!!!! Also, Jeff always has lots of stories to tell and entertain you.

I love this shop!!!!!!!! I first found them 14 years ago (2000) when my 72 Super Beetle need a new motor. Every other shop I called was rude and most hung up on me when I told them that it was an auto-stick. The owner Jeff was the person who answered when I called about the motor, he was very direct with me and let me know that it was gonna be much more expensive than it would be if it was a standard transmission. In a move unheard of in most shops Jeff told me that I could save money if I would let him convert it to a standard. As a new customer he saved me around $600.00, I was shocked that he actively tried to save me money. Since then Jeff has told me all options available and been very upfront with the price. I have referred many of my friends to Chet & Cliff's, every one of them has gone to him repeatedly and told me that they were shocked at how much Jeff wants to helps. The bug was in an accident and I needed a new daily driver so I called Jeff about the first VW was looking at and he stopped me mid sentence, he told me that it was not the right car for me and that the upkeep was very expensive for that car again saving me money that would have gone straight to him. Jeff told me what kind of car he would recommend and what to look out for while shopping. I bought a car that met his specs and other than routine maintenance it has been flawless. I have spent many hours in this shop (due to my not being good to my cars) and Jeff while quirky is an amazing person to chat with. The shop does stellar work and any time (very rare) that there was a problem Jeff went above and beyond to make it right. I will never take my Volkswagen to any other shop

There guys are around the corner from my house which is the only reason I took my car there and not Kombi Haus. The guys who work there are gruff and rude, and didn't listen to me when I asked them not to change my license plate holders.
I only went there for an oil change (I don't trust jiffy lube) and they were reluctant and cranky about it - and they charge an arm and a leg! When I asked them about that, they said that oil changes weren't worth their time and that I shouldn't come back for another one. Well if it had been worth their time, then maybe I wouldn't be writing a bad review, and they wouldn't have lost any chance of ever having my business.
I might go there again my car breaks down literally right in front of their garage, but otherwise, no way.
I am only giving them two stars, and one is because I didn't actually have any repairs done so I can't say that they aren't good mechanics. Just nasty ones.

I take my older Audi here. They always do good work. They allow me to bring my own parts when I already know what the problem is. I used to go to a more expensive place closer to my home, until they left greasy hand prints all over the outside of my car. This place is always professional and fair in the pricing and service. I recommend this place for Audi or VW service, it is legit.
