Been a long time customer of Rick's Automotive. Our Pastor recommended him to us over 10-12 years ago. I really like that he'll take the time to explain what's going on and shows me the parts he's pulled out and why they needed to be replaced. I'm weird like that, but it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. I also LOVE that he does not oversell services that may be "recommended" but that he doesn't think is really needed. This really sets him apart from any other repair guy I've used in the past. HIGHLY recommend!

Guys accross from him at the smog check recommended him when my car failed the smog because of codes showing up on their maching. Took it to Rick's and he cleared the codes and helped me pass smog. He charged me $20 for his time which I felt was a deal. According to the smog check mechanic, rick's is honest and priced reasonbable with no nonsense customer help.

I had Rick install a Jasper Transmission in my Truck and surprising enough as he told me it would out live the truck and it sure did... I like having my vehicles serviced at Rick's automotive because he never tries to up sell me service or parts my vehicle doesn't need and in this economy we need any friend we can get. Rick now services my newer vehicle and I can depend on his knowledge as my mechanic to make sure my vehicle gets the best service. Thanks Rick

Fast and friendly!! I was in and out within 10 mins! My experience was great and they now have a repeat customer. Total cost with $26.75 coupon I got off the website was $40.00. He also gave me another coupon to use for the next car I need to smog. I highly recommend this Smog Star to get your DMV smog test done.

In and out in under 10 minutes! Extremely friendly and helpful service. The owner (Cal, I believe) did a check before the actual test to make sure my car would pass, which was nice and very rare these days. All around great experience. Very good experience getting a SMOG check. Like other reviews state:
- 2000 or newer cars take about 5 minutes. I had a great conversation with the guy and I was still out of there in 10 minutes.
- Pre-2000 cars take about 15 minutes.
The guy that runs the place is very friendly and gets the task done quickly.

If your car is 2000 or newer the smog is all electronic and only takes 10-15 minutes max. My 1996 vehicle took a bit longer, about 25-30 minutes.
Regardless the service is quick, I was with him the whole time and it was quite a bit of work for the older vehicles, but mine passed, and I'm happy with the service.
He charged an upfront cost of $38, not like other places who say $25 or $29 but add several fees such as certificate & dmv transfer that bumps the price up to $40.

Friendly, quick service. Small shop, You can tell its family owned and ran. I love supporting local small businesses. I found them on groupon but I noticed while there that they do run specials. I would recommend this place to my friends and I will be a returning customer. Three thumbs up!

This guy is a unscrupulous business owner and a cheat, so I am compelled to warn others to not get ripped off. It's too bad, he has a nice looking family to support. His neighbor on Jefferson is the place you want to use for honest certification. No star rating if I could.

Great experience. Fast. Hardly had time to read an article in a magazine before my car was done. The owner is very nice and personable. I will go back and will recommend others as well. This place is a little hidden, facing Pear not Jefferson. I hate getting smog checks, but this was as painless as it gets. :)

I've never left a negative review before but I've also never encountered such unprofessional behavior. Using Groupon, It's $11 cash if your car passes, and he wouldn't accept my $20 bill. So he ran my debit card and charged me an extra $2 for running the card. I told him that's not fair. He started yelling at me saying what's not fair is people like me coming in with a groupon when he only gets $9 from groupon. He ranted about it and told me not to come back with a groupon again and that he was cancelling the service. Then because he got himself so worked up he said in fact, don't come back ever again.

Why would I go anywhere else to smog my car. Cal took my car in immediately and I was in and out in ten minutes. If you were not aware, it is usually better to go to a test only station for smog because they have nothing to gain by your pass or fail. If you fail he will give you the code and you can fix it where you like. Bring it back for a free retest and all is good. Outstanding work. Cheers to Smog Star Test Only on Pear Street in Murrieta. Don't be fooled by companies with almost the same name.

When I went in the man who was doing the smog check was very nice and understanding. I told him that the ecu had to be ready to pass smog and if he could check for me. He did and said that it was all good so he proceeded to smog the car and it passed right away. The visit was about ten minutes and the price was good with a coupon.

The service was good at first, when my husband went with my daughter to get the car smog, he even told him that it would probably not pass until he had a tune up, so we did that and then we had our daughter return by herself, thinking he was honest enough the first time. Well much to our surprise that second trip didn't go so well, he told her the car passed, but that she needed to have a few things looked at. We didn't understand the testing and the readings so we called him and he changed his story.
He not only lied about the test results, he also didn't honor the coupon that we had (Retest for $20.00 coupon) stating that we had to use it within 30 days of initial testing, but if you look at the coupon it does not state that anywhere on there and when I told him that he replied "I told your daughter verbally" which is not true, especially since he told her it passed in the first place. He changed his stories and twisted everything, I am so disappointed especially since we had to invest in ordering parts, waiting to receive them, then have them installed and paying for the repairs only to find out we have to start over with the retest and paying for that again.
I don't understand how businesses could take advantage of people like this. What a terrible way to run a business, we all work hard for our money as I am sure you do. I am not recommending this place at all unless you support this type of behavior.
Anyways if you chose to do business with him anyways, I wish you luck!! If my story helps you make a decision to go elsewhere I am glad it helped someone.

Review is for Smog Star Test Only on Pear St. Murrieta. I had an excellent experience with the gentleman here when smogging my car to sell. I called before closing and he waited fifteen minutes on me and had our car done with 10 to 15 minutes.
I have had horrible experiences with other places in that area doing the forms wrong or not being there during stated business hours. Not so with Smog Star, very happy to recommend them!
