John at U-do-it let intake manifold gasket material fall into my engine while doing an intake manifold gasket replacement job and this totally ruined my GMC 4.3L engine. When I got the truck back from him it was running poorly and within 3 miles the engine started malfunctioning. He knows that he caused this damage even in light of our finding many metal fragments and pieces up to 3/4" in the oil pan, he still would not own up to his mistake. These metal pieces were easily identifiable as coming from the gasket. This engine damage cost me almost $4,000 dollars to correct. I had to buy a whole new remanufactured engine plus many other parts like hoses water pump ignition parts, etc. When it comes down to it John will not take responsibility for any damage that he causes. Absolutely love this place. Started going here a couple years ago and have had a great time working on my first cars. Highly recommended this place to everyone. You'll have fun working on your own car when you have the proper equipment. Rates are beyond reasonable here too. I've never had to pay beyond $20-$25 an hour.

I needed to replace a carrier bearing on my Ford F250. Once the drive shaft was off I realized that I needed a press. I took it down to DO IT YOURSELF. I meet the owner John who was more than helpful. We had the old carrier bearing off and the new one on in 15 minutes. In hindsight, I wish I would have taken the whole truck down and put it on one of John's lifts. Better than laying on the floor of the garage. The next time I need to work on my truck. I know exactly were I am going to go. Thanks John for the help and your knowledge. Looking forward to your expertise again. Nick J.

This is a great place to be able to get you car on a rack and do your own repairs. John is so patient, helpful, and just down right nice. He has saved my bacon yet again.

A friend recommended Tom to us a couple of years ago. As always with a new recommendation with mechanics - I reluctantly gave Stern's Family Auto Repair a shot. I was amazed. What 3 other people could not figure out on my 06' Dodge Cummins - Tom had diagnosed with a plan "A" and a plan "B" for repairs. It would have been so much cheaper to just see Tom first.
Most recently while out of town, we we told we need the rear end of the same truck rebuilt. We decided to ease it home and let Tom have a look at it. We told Tom about the other folks diagnosis so he started ordering parts and preparing to do a full rebuild (a couple thousand dollars worth). I got a call from Tom with an update - "there's nothing wrong with the rear end". He did find a couple of minor issues, fixed them and it's running like new.
Tom could have been like so many other mechanics I have known over the years and just did the job, collected the money and no one would have been the wiser. BUT HE DIDN'T!
Tom is a man of integrity which is in short supply these days. Thank you Tom - for being the type of mechanic I can send my family to and know they will be treated honestly and drive away know it's fixed right.

Simply the best. I was introduced to Tom buy a long time friend and retired mechanic who said he was an excellent mechanic and did honest work. He was right. I now have a new mechanic. He did the work in a very timely manner gave me a bid up front with no hidden surprises. I now recommend him to everyone.

Tom at Stern's auto repair not only does a great repair service, but is one of the few mechanics that I feel is truly honest and fair. After being quoted nearly $1000 to replace 2 O2 sensors needed before smogging my car, I took it to Stern's. He called on the part price while I was standing there so I knew the true cost of the parts. The total cost for the repair was 1/2 of what the other shop had quoted and was completed correctly. Tom is my new regular mechanic..

I have taken my Toyota 4Runner into Tom Stern for the last year, for several repairs needed after moving here from Alaska. He has ALWAYS done excellent work! He has done several adjustments to it, with no charge at all. And the timing belt he did replace was several hundred dollars less than his competitors. He takes great care of my car, and I trust him completely. This is a good, honest man, and a great mechanic.
