I was ripped off by this crooked McKinney U-Haul dealer -- South Point Auto Repair at 909 West University (Hwy 380), specifically a man named Tom. I ask all of my Facebook and Internet brethren to never do business with South Point Auto Repair, never rent a U-Haul from them, and spread the word. I want them to take the screwing they handed me, but I want it magnified. I want them to feel the pain that consumers banded together on the internet can inflict on a crooked business. Spread the word to every Collin County resident you know. Boycott them, black-ball them. Starve them out.
Normally, I don't rage this hard, but I will this time. Tom stated to my wife that the truck had "about 3/4" tank of gas when I took it. The attendant even pulled it out of the parking spot and looked at the dash and recorded the outbound mileage. I got the truck, and the gas gauge was about significantly under , but Tom said "about" to my wife, so I trusted, took the truck, and got to my business at hand. So I noticed that the gas needle NEVER MOVED on this truck in the 27 miles I drove it. The truck also stunk of cigarettes and body odor, and the interior was coated in dust and dirt. At least the truck ran... Anyway, I pumped in $12.00 of gas at $2.63 a gallon, or 4.56 gallons of fuel. Again, no movement in the fuel needle. I drove 27 miles, and pumped in 4.5 gallons of gas. Now, if I burned 4.5 gallons of fuel in 27 miles, the truck would have been getting 6 miles per gallon. An E-350 box van doesn't get that bad of mileage. I took the truck back, TOLD TOM the fuel gauge didn't register any fuel use, and that it didn't rise when I pump gas into it, and he says "Well, it went out with 3/4 of a tank." We argued, I called him a "lying sack of sh*t" to his face in almost a yell, and he charged me for an additional 3.6 gallons of gas at $4.00/gal. Tom was the person who READ THE ODOMETER FOR THE CHECK OUT MILEAGE, AND HE READ THE GAS GAUGE ON THE WAY OUT. HE COULD GET A WRITE DOWN THE NUMBER 103597.0 AND ENTER IT INTO A COMPUTER, BUT HE COULD NOT READ A GAS GAUGE ACCURATELY? THIS IS A SCAM. This is the closest I have ever come to getting in a physical altercation. Tom told me "I had better watch my mouth" I and asked him "Or what? What are you going to do?" There were other customers standing in the office, awaiting their turn at a screwing, so I wished he had tried something with me. I was ready to dance with him if he swung.
Yes, I SHOULD have called him out immediately when I took the truck and pointed out that it did not have EXACTLY 3/4 tank of fuel. I didn't think I had to. He took advantage of the situation and overcharged me. For this type of dishonesty, South Point Auto Repair needs to go out of business.
