I definitely will not be returning. I waisted two days here. The first day I dropped my car off to have the alternator replaced. A few hours later I received a phone call saying the one that I brought in was defective and that I needed a new one. I was also told they would run more test and then call me back. Hours go by and i hear nothing so i decide to call them. After being told that the one I had originally brought in had only been tested but not actually put into my vehicle I went to pick it up so that I could return and get my money back. Then I was told by auto zone that I could only be offered a replacement because it had already been placed in my car. So I get a replacement and even had the old one tested only to find out there was nothing wrong it. Take it back to neighborhood garage and they tell me that they will have to keep my car overnight because they don't have time for it now. The next morning comes and I still haven't heard anything so I give them a call. I find out that my car has been ready and they just never called to tell me to pick it up. Finally I go to pick up the car and find out that I have been charged and extra $20 because they took my alternater out multiple times, which I was never made aware of. I ask to speak to a manager and the lady behind the desk begins to argue with me that I knew about the charge and it's not their fault. Finally after 20 min Jessie comes in also begins to argue with me yelling and throwing his up. They take the charge off and I leave. Throughout this whole experience both women behind the desk were very rude and I was never once offered any updates on my vehicle or even told to come pick it up. They have the worst customer service and are just overall unprofessional.

A few years ago, my mother had a list of repairs recommended by a local dealership that came to about $1100. We took her Corolla to Neighborhood Garage, along with the list of repairs and when we picked up her car, we were charged for a lube and oil change. A few things on the list was so minor that they didn't charge for it and the rest of the recommended repairs was not necessary. Last week, I got a dealership estimate for replacement of lower control arms, rack and pinion, boots etc. on my Toyota Sienna that came to about $4500. I remembered the time my mother took her car in and the difference an honest repair can make, so I took my van in and the result was a savings of $3,300.

Didn't do the work that they said they did. Took it to another mechanic after a month of the worst brake noise ever and he confirmed they didn't do any of the work on my breaks. Spent over 600.00 there and now 700.00 to fix what they messed up. Don't ever ever ever go here.

Took serveal weeks to fix a window motor that they said would take an hour to fix. They also have NO time management. You can call and make an appointment and have that be no bearing for when you come in. This rush in first come first service is fine if they wouldn't try and decieve people into thinking their "appointments" actually give people an assertive time to get their cars fixed.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE, PRICES & KNOWLEDGE!!!
Went to this place after getting the shaft at Niello BMW. I took my car in to have a few clips placed on a door panel that had been broken off and they only charged me $40 for the labor. The clips cost all of the dollar each. BMW wanted to charge me $270 just to take off the panel and look at it.
Jesse rocks in repairs, Linda is fantastic with customer service and when other people came into the office from the service center, each one actually asked me if I needed any help. I've never been given such attention at a car repair shop before. It was great to know that somebody was always looking out to make sure I had been taking care of.
Absolutely going here again and telling anybody who'll listen to go too. Just make sure you make an appointment because they are very busy. However the wait time is not that long at all.

Have you ever had emergency diagnosis done on your car and felt you were being given an honest assessment of the situation upfront with no attempt to talk you into major repair job? Have you ever gone to a car repair shop and felt like you wanted to pay more than what you were charged?
I've been on Yelp since 2010 and never once written a review. But I feel compelled to write one today. I have been taking my car to Neighborhood Garage for 10+ years and I have had a wide range of work done. But this occasion was different. The engine temperature gauge on my 6cyl 196K miles 2000 Honda Accord was redlining when I brought the car in late this afternoon. Jesse, although extremely busy as he usually is, had me pull up the car into an open bay and started emergency diagnosis, the same way a trauma patient is given attention in the ER.
The coolant in the radiator was very low even though the reservoir was full. It turned out that a faulty cap was a contributing factor. Curiously, there were no external signs of coolant leaking and I had just changed the engine oil at Jiffy Lube two weeks earlier and they didn't report any anomaly. After topping off the coolant, the solenoids and spark plugs were checked and there was some indication of possible cylinder head gasket leak but at the end of the day, the car was brought back to life! I narrowly avoided a massive engine repair bill and the headache of finding a replacement car and walked away paying for only 2 quarts of coolant and a replacement cap!
I can not say thank you enough to you, Jesse, and your staff for your excellent customer service! Your loyal customers will always vote you as the BEST car repair garage in the greater Sacramento area hands down!

Called to get a second opinion on my wobbly steering wheel. Advised the secretary what the first opinion had said it was and the charges to repair it. Instead of diagnosing a second time or even checking to see if their diagnosis was accurate, they simply repaired the truck w the parts listed on the first quote. They said it would take a "few" hours and after waiting all day I picked it up and still had the wobble in the steering.
I called back to ask why and they advised me I wanted just the parts replaced for cheap. I explained I haul horses and needed the problem repaired, not just random parts replaced for not reason. It ended up being the owner and I in the parking lot, I showed him the wobble, he immediately recognized it was the gear box. I asked why he didn't diagnose it when I brought it in and he said he was too busy. He even admitted that his mechanic drove it and told him something was still wrong. He said he replaced the parts listed on the first quote and wasn't even sure if they needed to be replaced. He was so clearly frustrated and annoyed with me questioning him that he started yelling and waving his arms around saying he has done repair work for over 20 years and knew what the problem was and it was my fault since I brought in the first quote and confused the front desk ladies. He said if I went to an auto part store and bought the gear box he would repair the wobble, he wasn't going to spend the time and order one for me. I have never had a mechanic let alone the owner of a shop literally yell at me. Granted my husband typically takes our vehicles in for repairs, I at least expect the same level of respect and kindness. I spent over $350 on parts and labor and left with a wobble in the steering. I will never go to this shop again.

This is my favorite review to write because I feel these people and this business truly deserves my 5 stars.
I have gone to Neighborhood Garage for all my car needs. Everytime I go I always get a decent and fair price and my car is back on the road. Always. These guys do quality work Jesse, Carl. The staff who work at the computers. They are all very hard working people and they are very honest people. I had a broken ball joint on my car I only had to pay $100. My coworkers all told me had I gone anywhere else I would have had to pay alot more. Ive had headlights to my car replaced in less than half an hour. Ive gotten my turn signal fixed you name it.
I am satisfied and I will to continue to keep on going. They are very busy most of the time, but you can always drop your car off and they will get to it in reasonable time.
Honest! They are honest people! You don't get that too often with business's these days.

I remember took my grey 2004 Mini Cooper S 6-speed here for a engine swap because the engine blew a medium-large size hole in the SOLID IRON ENGINE BLOCK.
We ordered a "good" used engine from the scrap yard in rancho. As soon as 30 mins after the engine block was dropped off, Jesse calls me, telling me that the engine they sent over had overheating problems before. He told me he could tell because there was anti-freeze in the engine camber. I called the parts store and told them the situation and they told me they would immediately pick it up and give us a different one... With no specifications to how many mi., where the engine was from, etc...
Jesse told me he got the "new" engine and this engine guy would immediately start working on it.
Later on, I get a call that this engine is also a bad engine... As soon as I heard this message, I called the mini parts store and they told me they were sure it was good.
I called Jesse back and told him that the guy I dealt with told me he was confident in the 2nd engine he sent me.... Jesse told me he would give me a 50% discount on the labor if it was his fault.
Next day I got a call from Jesse and he told he his guy put in the clutch the wrong way.
I went back and got my car and talked to Jesse and from a business owner's perspective, he was going to lose money on this job (my car's repair).
We went back into the office to pay for the labor and parts he used and as true to his word, he gave me HECK OF A DEAL!!!
This process was not a joyous experience for both parties involved. BUT, differently to other mechanics I've had work on my different cars over the years, Jesse is an honest business owner.
He has help me out in so many ways I cannot thank him or refer his business his enough.
P.S. Jesse told me upfront he specializes in Japanese cars but I continued because of a friend's good review of the place

Great service and great and honest people. They saved me so much money. After I couldn't get a smog certificate on my car because some sensors turned on my Check Engine Light, I went to serveral other Garages for estimates. One Estimate came back with over a $1400 in repairs for a 16 year old car!! They saw the year of the car, mileage and some rust and that automatically turned on their $$$ signs. I was about to junk the car but luckily found the Neighorhood Garage on Yelp. They fixed the issues I had on my car and only those issues without trying to rip me off. The total cost was around $300 which was reasonable and fair. The parts they ordered were 10 times cheaper than the estimates of the parts I got from the other repair shops. My car passed the smog check and runs great now and I will always go back to the neighborhood garage. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an honest repair shop.

Jesse and his crew and the neighborhood garage are awesome. Jiffy lube quoted me $300 for a new oil pan because the plug screw was stripped and they said there was no fix. I said just "get it back in there and I'll take it to my guy". I brought it to Jesse this morning and he changed the oike fixed the issue and I'm back on the road for the price of a $2.00 part. The most honest repair shop I have ever used and will never go anywhere else!!!

Jesse is the man! Very friendly guy, easy to talk to, and most importantly he is honest and explains in detail what needs to be done, around how long it should take, and how much it should cost. I was able to take my car in during a pretty busy time and have him diagnose the problem and actually physically show me what the issue was within 30 minutes. I then came back 2 days later, dropped my car off for the 3 hours he said it would take, then came back and picked it up running the smoothest it has in years!!! The fact that he not only doesn't charge for inspections, but then goes the distance and gives competitive pricing is awesome and no surprise why all the other reviews are 5 stars. Thanks Jesse!

We had just moved to area, it was summer and our air conditioning wasn't working, anyone who has ever lived in the sacramento area during the summer know how bad this is, after searching our immediate area for mechanics, who were quoting us upwards of $200, I decided to look in the surrounding areas. I found this garage and drove 20 minutes, they charged us $115 (including parts and labor) and informed us of a potential problem with our key that could end up being a way bigger problem, and where we could get that fixed. The service was amazing and quick. Being a woman, mechanics often try to take advantage because they think that I won't know any better, but this mechanic didn't at all. I have been recommending this garage to everyone that needs work done and plan to take my car there as long as live in the area. I just wish they would be open on weekends!

Jesse is the best! I go here for my car problems (Honda Civic 01) and he is always ready to talk about any question I have. I even get my oil change done here now since there's a nice sticker reminding me about it.

Great service from this place...
2 days ago, I was driving across Watt avenue when my 2003 Dodge Stratus made a loud popping sound, the engine whined, and promptly turned off. Like and clueless car person - I immediately assume I was going to be foregoing my children's college education on car repairs.
I had the car towed to Neighborhood Garage where Jesse diagnosed that I had a broken timing belt. He advised it would cost me at least $500 to repair due to replacing the belt as well as the water pump. He warned that it would be highly possible that there would be valve damage as well that could total up to in the $1200's! He said he would get to work on it and let me know the next day what the results were.
The next day he called me, and advised me it was only going to be $350. He was able to determine the water pump didn't need to be replaced; and that my valves were intact!
Awesome honesty - and not looking to turn a buck on a guy who knows nothing about cars. I'll come here again for sure.

Jessie is definitely the most honest owner and mechanic I've come across - he has done a lot of work and routine maintenance to 2 of my vehicles and has always allowed me to bring my own oil and parts. I enjoy how thorough they are and he let's you know the issue and will even show you what's going on before doing or suggesting any work. He has the honesty is the best policy type of business that folks whom don't work on vehicles regularly look for and that's why you shouldn't be surprised if he's booked out a couple days. I have had a few car repairs done here and the first couple times I was really impressed. The mechanics (especially Jesse) are very knowledgeable. But I think they have gotten way too busy and they don't know how to turn customers away. The workers at the front desk are sometimes less than friendly, probably because they are overwhelmed. It would be much better if they referred people to another reputable mechanic in the area rather than agreeing to service more cars than they really have time for.
Because they didn't have enough time to fully devote themselves to work on my car recently, my car had an issue that was misdiagnosed and a separate repair that was not done properly. Even if the repairs are covered under warranty, it's another huge hassle for them to try to find a time slot when they can work on it again--too busy.
I ended up having to take it to another local mechanic so that he could actually spend a decent amount of time identifying and resolving the problems.

They also gave me the lower price they quoted at the beginning even though it turned out to be longer labor time due to the part needed pressed out. Which I knew from researching online that is true on this car.

WARNING! I called for a quote and the final invoice was NOT what I was originally quoted...it was $100 LESS! I took my Hyundai in for a 90k service yesterday. When I returned to pick up my car the owner was in the office and he handed off my keys. Told me the newer cars require very little maintenance and I was all good! My fianc ended up leaving his vehicle overnight to repair the U-joints. Picked the truck up today and the price quoted was spot on what was invoiced. We will definitely be repeat customers. It's really nice to find a good, honest mechanic. My only word of advice, call and make an appointment, this place is crazy busy!

I've been going to Neighborhood Garage for a couple of years now, and they've always correctly diagnosed the issues the first time, and charged me a very fair price. Their bays are always completely full with many cars in the lot lined up to get worked on, yet somehow they always complete the work quickly and accurately. And Jesse takes the time to explain exactly what the issue is, how the part failed, and the steps needed to fix it.
Perhaps most importantly, I've always left with the feeling that they were honest with me, and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need, or overcharge me for labor. They clearly understand that if they leave you feeling good about your experience, you'll be back.

Wow, Jessie IS a great guy! I went in thinking that I need to get my brakes replaced because the brake pads are starting to squeak and that the brakes are getting soft, and he just said he'll check it out as he was super busy.
About 30 minutes later, he called, telling me that he tightened the brakes and that my brakes are perfectly fine! The best part: he didn't even charge for it!
I'm really thankful for such an honest mechanic, as I would honestly blindly spend $$ on replacing them (I actually live in San Diego, where everything is hilly as heck, but visiting parents here)
I'm sure I'll come here to get any problems checked out next time!

I've brought my 2 cars here several times for various reasons. Jesse is a rare breed in this world. He's honest, and won't over charge you or look for things to charge you for. He does what needs to be done, and that's it. This is why I will always go here for car repairs.
Last time I was here I had what I thought was a problem with the starter. So I left the car to be worked on for the day. About mid morning I got a call from Jesse saying that the starter is not the issue and that the problem lies with the battery. Knowing that the battery is an easy fix, that even someone who doesn't know that much about cars can do. He gave me the option to change it myself,' which I agreed to do.
Well, I was expecting a "diagnostic charge" like all the other garages/dealers charge for lifting the slightest finger ..... nope' he didn't charge me a dime. With business practices like these, Neighborhood Garage will always be in business. They are efficient, and best of all, HONEST. I ask you, how often IF EVER will you find these qualities elsewhere in the car repair business?

I have been going to Jesse for a great many years after being referred by a friend. He has always done fantastic work for a very good price.
I recently failed SMOG as they said the "ignition timing" was off and could not be adjusted to be within limits. They said I would need my timing belt replaced at a cost of about $450. I called Jesse and he said to drop by and HE would check/adjust my timing for $20. I did go and even though he was SUPER busy (as always), he immediately checked AND adjusted the timing(spot on he said).
Not only that, but then he wouldn't take my money for it!!!
I can't say enough good things about Jesse.
(The only bad thing was that several years ago I took my car in for brakes, and after leaving and driving a bit there was a HUGE clanging sound like they were "falling off". I went back and Jesse looked and said that the guy who worked on it DIDN"T attach a necessary bolt. Sooooo, my rule is that I won't let ANYONE work on my car but Jesse. That is why I go there, for HIM. Others have said that "everyone who works for him is great", so my story is probably an anomaly. However, it's only Jesse for me!!)

This place is fantastic. My friend recommended them to me, and I have been happy every since. Jesse is completely honest in his assessment of what does, and does not, need work, and his prices are completely reasonable. I came in after being told I needed to get my engine checked and transmission fluid cleaned at another place following an oil change, and he told me the issue was the front wheel balance (like I thought) and don't worry about the transmission fluid, that's just BS to get my money. I bring my car here for everything.
I even brought my car in when the check engine light came on, and they read out the code for me (engine misfire) so that I could go buy the part I needed - without charging me any money. He even installed new spark plugs for me that I supplied for free while doing some other maintenance. Five-star rating for sure.

Brought my Cadillac in here with a cylinder misfire, since I was new in the area I was nervous about a new garage. My old garage in my old city had taken excellent care of me for 10 years and we all know how valuable it is to have the kind of service and trust in a shop. Neighborhood Garage did not disappoint. I had to wait a few days to get in but once I did, they took good care of me and my car. The price was fair and they got it back to me as promised. I will definitely return and recommend Jesse to all of my friends as well. It's nice to know there are still places you can go and feel like you won't be taken advantage of. Great job!

Wondering why the heck I just found out about this place!?! They are the best! I've been going to many shops in Rancho Cordova/Sac area and they never seem to know what they are doing and will charge you extremely high prices for poor work. I heard about this place through an associate and was told they are very honest and does great work...and they were right! I ended up needing my rear brakes and rotor replaced and it was done right and quickly! And the price was excellent! I wont be taking my car anywhere else! I finally drove away happy.

We were referred to Neighborhood Garage by a greater Sacramento Area auto body shop. They will remain nameless because you would expect them to refer to their "sister" repair shop, but nope, they suggested Neighborhood Garage instead. First impression - very busy shop and very personable counter staff. Within an hour (with no appointment, which in hindsight I do not recommend due to their high volume) we had a repair plan and estimate in place for our Sequoia. We were very pleased as the quote was considerably lower than a competitor's and left, agreeing to make an appointment the next week for actual work to be done. Before we had a chance to have that work done, our teen daughter bought her first car the following week. Her Volvo seemed fine but we wanted a mechanic to give it the once over. Not only did Carl NOT start fishing around for "things" to "fix", he fixed the broken trunk latch for $25 less than the very fair original estimate he gave. He gave us the heads up that we'd need to service the driver's side door latch soon enough, but otherwise we looked good. Sure enough, that crystal-ball-reading-man was correct, and the door handle is misbehaving just two weeks later. If I was a more suspicious person, I could say he planned this, even rigged this (!), but a more responsible thought is that he really did look over the car and just knows early signs of "trouble". Grateful to have this kind of trouble as opposed to engine trouble! I have a call into the shop as I type this, and fully expect another great experience with this repair. Ultimately, we will have the work done on the Sequoia, but it feels great to feel as though we have found a solid, professional, trust-worthy shop that understands both cars and good service.

I've brought 2 of my vehicle to Jesse for service/repair and so far he lives up to his reputation....and then some. Jesse's not here to make money off of you, he's here to make a living, and an honest one at that. I have a third car as well, and will definitely take it there when it's time for service. Oh.... I took my car to this place to have a diagnostic done for a check engine light. They told me I need to leave it and they would call me back. The manager Jesse promised me that if it needed to stay over night they would park it inside because there has been a lot break ins in their parking lot. Lomg story short 2 days later my car never moved from its original spot outside and no work had been done. Jesse told me they had not had time to look at it yet and he was very rude with me. So now 2 days later very frustrated I had to make an appointment with a different shop to get this simple issue diagnoses. I then realized someone had stolen my 2014 registration sticler off of my lice se plate while my car had been left out there over night 2 nights in a row. Turned out my car needed a catalist converter and I had it fixed elsewhere. I will never be back.

Not any more ... Too many times taking my car to get fixed ... Paying A LOT and the car NOT be fixed .... Or him telling me nothing was wrong but for me the noise and awful constant clunk-clunk's as I drive would still be there.

I found Jesse and Linda back in 2002 by accident. My roommate's car had broken down on Folsom Blvd, and our tow truck driver recommended we tow her Honda to Neighborhood Garage.
My family and I have been bringing our vehicles here ever since, and often recommend them to friends and family.
Linda is so sweet and friendly. And Jesse is a great mechanic! Experienced and knowledgable. He has an incredible work ethic, and is always eager to explain what the problem is, how the part works, why it needs to be fixed, and give a great deal on the parts and/or labor! He will even bring out the broken part and a new part to show you the difference.
They are so friendly, fair and honest, I won't ever take my vehicles anywhere else!
Yes, his shop has become very busy over the past few years, as he is referred to everyone's families. Although it may take a day for him to finish your vehicle, it will always be done as quickly as possible, it will be done right, and you will get a great price and friendly service! His shop wouldn't be so busy if he wasn't a great mechanic!

Yelp you never steer me wrong. We moved out here a year ago and needed a tune up on our cars. I used my best friend yelp to find a place. Neighborhood Garage popped up, all 5 stars hmmm? So I decided to give it a try. They are friendly and knowledgeable. The tune ups are extremely reasonable in price, and they are always on time and professional. I have been in on another occasion when my engine light came on and a friendly guy walked out with me and did a diagnostic on it. For free! The problem was still under warranty and he told me to take it back to Mazda. He didn't BS me about the problem. This is so honorable in my book considering he could have said they could fix it and charge me for it.

I've been taking my car to Jesse for 10 years now. I had a Civic that broke down and the man driving the tow truck who picked me up, highly recommended Neighborhood Garage. I had taken my car to many other places who would tell me I needed things done, not knowing if I really did or not. I took my car to Honda and was given a long list of many costly things that "needed" to be done. I took the list to Jesse and he said I only needed two of those things and the rest weren't important. During the 6 years I've had my Acura, I haven't had any major problems. Jesse is very honest and cares about his customers. He tells me what I need to keep the car running and doesn't overcharge. I've had other places try and take advantage of me being a girl not knowing what i really need done on my car. I will continue taking my car to Jesse and Linda for as long as I can. My father in law referred us here several months ago. He told us that Jesse did some work on his 03' Ford pickup for 80% less than what he was quoted at a local reputable auto shop. We took our 1998 Chevy Tahoe in because it was leaking profusely and smoking. At the local repair shop, we were quoted $1600 because it was "necessary" to replace several major parts to stop the leak. I then took the truck to Jesse and not only did he get us in right away, fix the problem correctly but he only charged us $350!!! On top of all of this, Jesse was professional, personable and invested in his customers and his work. This is a family business, and the bond shows through in the way Jesse conducts business and himself as an owner. His wife runs the office precisely and professionally.
Our 98 Tahoe is currently back at his shop because we waited forever when our AC when out on it 2 years ago. I had taken it to that same local shop and was quoted 1800! Crazy! So we suffered through 2 years of Sacramento summers, but now that we know Jesse exists, we decided it was time. He has not disappointed. He quoted us a couple hundred dollars and said he needed to replace a couple hoses versus an entire compressor that the other shop said needed to be replaced.
If you need any type of repair on your vehicle (major or minor), please do not hesitate to take your vehicle to Jesse. He is an honest, hard working business owner. He is definitely a breath of fresh air amongst a lot of dishonest, shiesty auto repair shops. We are a family with 5 small kids and one income, so we are very mindful of our finances and where we spend our money. With that said, I will never hesitate to take our trucks to Jesse nor hesitate to recommend him to anyone I know.

I have been taking both of my cars here now for the last couple of years. We found this garage per a friends recommendation and have been so happy with the service. Since then not only have we told several people about it, but we have taken our cars in for several different things. They have always given me a correct and fair quote for the service being done. I have never had to leave my car there overnight, it is always done the same day. Occasionally I have had to call to see if my car is done, and it usually is. Only once (recently) I have called and they said that they were too busy for me to bring it in the next day, I scheduled an appointment for the next week and the car was fixed in a few hours. I am glad to see that they are constantly busy, and the prices have stayed the same.

Desperate after buying a cheap van that was not quite as healthy as advertised, on a shoe-string, 100mi from home, we found it on Yelp & went there for help with a stalling, boiling over, surging, belching disaster the day after discovering that the previous owners 'did not know' that it had nearly $500 in pending DMV fines.... Nice.
They made time, looked it over, gave some knowledgeable suggestions, and charged a very generous price for the work. The diagnoses were spot-on, and after a few hours of wrenching and a serious cooling-system flush, we were on our merry way.

Thanks to yelp I located Jesse to take in my mom's chevy malibu for a coolant leak around 9:30am. Jesse was great he was very familiar with the model year and knew it has been know for some problems.
He hones and let us know he was backed up for the day an might not get a chance to finish the work but will look at it for a diagnosis.
At 12pm he called my mom let her know the vehicle was complete and i wasn't as bad as we were thinking..

its 8:15 A.M. and my car wont start. 8:16, 8:17, 8:18. UGH. 8:30 - gotta find a tow truck. D@m^it!
I went on Yelp to find a place near my new home, since I didn't have a local shop yet. I came across Neighborhood, and nervously, called them. They were friendly over the phone and gave me the contact info for a tow truck company that was really inexpensive! In fact, he gave me a deal because I was going to Neighborhood.
I showed up to the shop and they had about 5 or 6 bays, all of them were full. This is a good sign! The next day, I had my car back, and couldn't have been happier!
I took one star off because they were so busy! They told me they would look at my car and probably be able to fix it the same day we brought it there, but they didn't get a chance to see/fix it until the next day.

Had my timing belt and water pump replaced on my 2001 Civic. $480. Awesome price!! Got an oil change at the same time. $32. Not worth it. :) Also had my rotors resurfaced. $110. Excellent!
I would have given this place 5 stars except for a screw up. I was supposed to get all that work done in 1 visit, but they didn't get to my brakes and I had to come back again. That's a big inconvenience to me. The guy (must have been Jesse) is very nice and has a genuine interest to explain the work to me. I also suggested getting additional preventive maintenance done (like replace water hoses, thermostat) because my car is at 120k. But he suggested that I can wait because those items are all in good condition. I always like a garage that insists on doing less and not more work. And I like how they break down the cost of the parts (even $3 parts are itemized) and the cost of the labor. Makes it really easy for any comparison shopping, although I guarantee that you won't find some place better.
I can tell you that this place is extremely busy. Make an appointment if possible, but it seems that they are more than accommodating even if you call on the same day or drop by unannounced. I think they must have 6-8 repair bays. And for repairs that don't require the vehicle lifts, they do the repair in the parking areas around the shop. The amount of business they get is a testimony to the quality of their work and service (although I didn't care for the lady in the office - not very friendly).
This is my go-to repair shop! It's on my way to work, but I would drive out of the way to get my car serviced here.

in the recent past I had Jesse work on my car, at the time I thought he did a great job. well, I went to get my oil changed and for them to look over my car to see where all the vibrations were coming from. and it was because of the work that was done previously was done incorrectly and now I have to pay big bucks again to repair things that were not done right the 1st time.Therefore, I will not recommend this company to anyone in the near future.Its really sad that men take advantage of women when it comes to having work done on a car. Thank god my dad taught be better or I would have paid a higher price from neighborhood garage. to make a long story short. this company had to foot the majority of my bill because the info given to me was the owners fault not mine..so when ever you go to the shop to have work done do your homework and investigate what may be causing any problems with your car.

I have used this garage for at least 10 years, my parents and my parents friends as well. Now my boyfriend uses it, and has also referred his co workers and so on.
This is why they are always so busy, because they are GOOD.
So please don't complain if they see you one day and you don't get your car back until the next day, hello? That's fantastic. Especially when you see 20 other cars moving in and out. This place is busy.
In a day and age where everyone is trying to rip you off, this place is reliable and trustworthy. They are making an honest living, with quality work at a fair price.

I was impressed by this business. I didn't get to meet the infamous Jesse as he took a rare day off to be with family, but I was able to speak with the other mechanics, including Jerome, and they were friendly, knowledgable, (and most importantly) came across as honest and trustworthy.
I was particularly impressed with Lynda. She was able to look up and tell me exactly what needed to be done with my car, and how to deal with a stripped bolt. I also ended up chatting with her while sitting in the waiting room, and she couldn't have been any nicer.

I have a pain in the butt 2004 Suzuki Verona. Recently I was unable to get my car to pass smog so I brought it to Jesse (this was the second time) we went back and forth for a few days trying to fix it there was an exhaust leak and the engine light was on. He sealed the leak and reset the light. He was not sure he fixed it so he sent me on my way with out charging me with the agreement that if it passes I would only owe him $50 (who does that?) Well my car did pass smog and I am going to schedule more work to be done on our other car. He is busy so you have to make an appointment but I think that's a good thing :)

we love this place. We found neighborhood garage around 2002, being new to Sacramento we lucked up on this gem of a garage.
Jesse is the owner and honest and reliable. Will always show you your old parts and charges reasonable rates, explains exactly what is being down and the man hours involved.
We've had mostly Honda/Acura's serviced there and his work is on par with the outrageously priced dealership servicing. We have no hesitation bringing any car to be serviced there we know he will provide a quality job at a great rate.
Needing the seals replaced on my honda accord (the seals by the timing belt that require alot of time) I got a quote from a auto care place closer to me in Natomas. $400. I knew that this was an outrageous price, called Neighborhood Garage and we were quoted about $250. We are always willing to drive from Natomas to Rancho Cordova to get our work done there, we have even had our vehicles towed all the way over.

This is my first yelp review, but I figured since yelp helped me find a wonderful garage I'd return the favor and tell everyone that my experience with The Neighborhood Garage was great and a I highly recommend them.
Everyone was very helpful even though they were incredibly busy. Diagnosed my wife's 1999 Saturn's wheel bearing problem over the phone and were able to take care of it in only a couple of hours without an appointment when we brought in in the next morning.
It cost much less than I expected. They seem to fix only what is needed and will tell you if something can wait till later or if it really needs to be fixed now or it will break something even more expensive to replace when it fails. Only one wheel bearing in the front needed to be replaced. They did not pressure us to replace both which another garage suggested.
The Neighborhood Garage was inexpensive, yet professional. Which is so hard to find. We will be taking both our cars there for all our future mechanical needs.
Oh and Jesse IS as friendly and knowledgeable as they other reviewers say his is.

We have a 2000 Honda Accord EX V6. Thanks to current job market & economy, we are unable to buy a new car. For that reason we have to make sure that this runs well. However, being an 11 year old car with 100,000 + miles, our car does have (had) several issues. Where do I start? 1) The wipers almost flew off the car on a rainy day (2) when we slow down, the steering starts to shake & vibrate (3) The rear passenger door does not open/close with the key fob (4) Oil change.
We heard about Neighborhood Garage through friends. I took the car in on 8/02/2011 at 7.49 AM and met the "infamous" Jessie. He informed that we was very busy but promised to take a look but most likely will not be fixed the same day. I was okay with leaving the car for the day. He was very pleased to hear that. I was told that it will cost me close to $300. That sounded very good since, my car needed oil change, machine the rotors, replace door lock motor/wiper rod unit. To my surprise, I got a call on the same day around 3.00 Pm that my car is ready for pick. However, I informed Jessie that I will come on the next day. When we went to pick up the car today (8/03), we were told the bill was $325. I spoke to Jessie about the initial quote and he immediately knocked off $42 and also gave free wiper blades which were broken. I have to say that honesty and customer service is refreshing and they found a new customer. Highly recommended and very professional. Thank you Jessie and Neighborhood garage.

Wow! Never have I had such great and HONEST service at an auto shop! I'm almost sad to be moving away just because moving means I won't be able to bring my car to Jesse and the guys at Neighborhood Garage!
I was in and out in less than an hour and only paid $25 for labor and $35 for parts. Everywhere else I called wanted a minimum of $100 just to LOOK at my car! By the way, try to go after lunch (after 1pm) when they are slower.
One of the service guys was going to hook my car up for engine diagnostics but immediately knew what the problem was once he turned the engine on. No diagnostics needed! He heard a wooshing sound that indicated a failed connector between a hose and the engine. He took the part out and let me see it. Then, I was given the choice of leaving my car there and they would order the part from Ford. BUT, it might take overnight. OR, they could put a loaner part in my car (at no charge to me), and I could drive to Ford and pick the part up right away and they'd install it as soon as I was back. They even told me that I could take my time and wait a few days if I needed to - with their loaner part...
I opted to go to Ford myself, picked up the part and drove right back to Neighborhood Garage. Within ten minutes of being back, the new part was installed and I was ready to go!
Neighborhood Garage won't necessarily win points for being pretty but then again, they are exactly what they claim to be - a neighborhood garage. The staff are all super friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. I also appreciated the fact that the waiting room has a window facing into the service area so you can watch them while they work. It's like a busy bee hive in there! No one is slacking off and everyone is involved in something.
Jesse, the owner, spoke to me several times even though one of his other mechanics was working on my car. I asked about a future oil change and a pre-trip inspection (we are driving cross-country in August) and was told that the oil change would be about $30 and a trip inspection wouldn't cost very much as long as they found nothing wrong (I forget the price Jesse quoted me...). Jesse also was hilarious in telling me why he charges thirty bucks for an oil change instead of the ten dollars you could pay elsewhere. He said, "Yeah, all those places are just hoping to get customers in there that will listen to an upsale of other services and walk out paying $70 instead of just ten. Don't go there. You are too nice for that kind of customer service. Ten dollars doesn't even cover the cost of oil at those places. They are like sharks circling, trying to get you to buy other stuff that you don't even need."

My car was getting stuck in park, and I had no idea what to do. I saw all the great reviews on here so I called. They were nice, told me about the shift lock release and said the problem could be a number of things (he said it could be one of 14 things specifically) so I took it in. The guy called after taking a look at it and he was talking very fast, but what I got from him, was it was a switch and he could fix it for $40 and it'd be ready in 30 min. They didn't call me after 30 min so I went there. My car was already parked in the parking lot. I asked if it was ready, and it was. It would have been nice to get a call since I was sitting at home waiting. Then I see the bill and it's $90 because he failed to tell me the price of the part was $50. Or I don't know, maybe I didn't hear him, but he wasn't very clear when he called. So I pay for it, get home, and look up this "stop light switch." There are a number of them available from $10-30, not $50 like they charged me. And there are a ton of YouTube videos on how to fix it, it takes like 5 min. I'm sure it was a super easy fix for them, and they probably had it done in 5 min, but they charged me $40 for the labor. I don't think that is honest, or a good deal at all. It is my own fault for not trying to fix it myself, but I trusted them, and I don't know much about cars. I would not go back to them.

He doesn't up-sell and only recommends work that is really needed; I never feel that I am getting ripped off with him. EXTRAORDINARY ATTENTION AND SERVICE! My husband and I are so grateful to have found this shop which far exceeded our expectations and hopes; thanks to all of you who took the time to write reviews here which is what convinced us to visit them.
We are relatively new to the area and had called two other shops for an estimate to check an electrical problem (electric windows and interior dome lights would not work.) We were told it would be about 85-90 dollars just to check it out. At a third shop I said I thought it might just be a fuse, and a worker looked at the fuse box but said the fuses looked fine and that it might be a relay or something more serious, and that they'd have to check out the whole electrical system, again, about 85 dollars and that they were too busy for the next week.
We had other big expenses come up and couldn't afford that at the moment so we had to wait almost two months till we had enough to cover the cost. I decided to check the reviews on Yelp for other nearby shops and thank heaven - found all the great reviews for Neighborhood Garage. I called and was told to bring the car in on Monday morning, the man (Jesse?) who answered the phone said there would be no charge to check it and he said he thought he knew what it would be, that it was probably something simple.
I brought the car by this morning about 8:30 and though their shop was already very, very busy with at least ten cars already staged for work (they open at 7:30 AM) I was told it might take only about half an hour, which sounded great to me but it was far better than that, it did not even take five minutes. Carl, the mechanic who worked on it, listened to us explain the problem and what led up to it, he checked it out and fixed it in less than five minutes: all that was needed after all was to replace a fuse. He showed us what had caused the problem, and when we asked what we owed, he said there was no charge. After having waited and being stressed for so long over what it might cost, the surprise, relief and gratefulness for their honesty, efficiency and kindness moved me to tears.
Neighborhood Garage just earned two more devoted customers and we will definitely and gladly bring our vehicle back to them for any major or minor work it might need in the future. Other shops should take a lesson from them. God bless you all at Neighborhood Garage!

After reading all the great reviews on here, I gave Jesse a call about getting my timing belt done. He was very helpful and quoted me a great price right there on the phone. I needed it done before a trip to LA for the holidays and he said he will squeeze me in. The place is known as more of an import place for Hondas and all that, but he said they work on everything and he was knowledgable about my Dodge Magnum. I was also getting an oil change and I told him that I wanted synthetic oil, he told me to run to K-Mart and get the oil there so it would be cheaper for me, he said his supplier charged him like $8 a quart and it was a rip-off! After dropping my car off he called me a few hours later to ask me about a noise my engine was making that I forgot to mention to him. He told me not to worry, it was an idler bearing that's a $45 part and wouldn't charge any additional labor. I also brought up that there was a rattle noise coming from my floorboard area and he said he already noticed it and fixed it (it was my heat shield rattling). After all said and done, my car was ready right when promised and he went over every charge on the itemized bill with me. He then let me know that all his work and parts are all warrantied through the shop for 1 year and not to hesitate to bring it back in if there's any issues or concerns. Jesse is very honest and knows how to run a business and build loyalty. I am going to recommend this shop to everyone.. They also have an A+ rating with the BBB.

Excellent and expedient service. It is already rare enough that you find a good and honest mechanic, but to find that all of the staff treats you fairly and with courtesy is amazing. It's been a blazing week, and the definitely saw my need for air conditioning repair. The price I paid was no different from what Jesse told me over the phone. Not that I hope I have car trouble again, but if I do-- this is where I will go! I highly recommend them!

After getting a suspicious upsell from a Honda dealer in Folsom, we took our car to the Neighborhood Garage to get a second opinion. The Honda dealer said the 2001 Honda's ball joints were loose, that the distrubuter should be replaced due to age and that the radiator hoses/thermostat should be replaced due to age. Jesse got the car on the first open rack and had the items checked out. It turns out that the ball joints were NOT loose, and the other items were fine. Neighborhood Garage did this with no appointment and for NO CHARGE! I'll never take this car to the dealer again, but the next time I need service for it, I will take it to Neighborhood Garage. They are pleasant, efficient, and fair. I can see why it is rated so highly in Yelp.

I came to this place after reading all the reviews on yelp. I have an older car that wouldn't pass smog and I was pretty sure it was the catalytic converter. Although they don't replace them here Jesse checked it for me to make sure it was the issue. It in fact was so he referred me to a place across from his shop that did it for a reasonable price. I was not charged for him to check the issue for me. I will be bringing all my vehicles here now and refer my friends as well.

This review is overdue. The work was done in September of this year.
I needed the timing belt replaced on my truck. I researched auto repair shops in the Sacramento area and found Neighborhood Garage here on Yelp. Jesse gave me an estimate over the phone for the timing belt replacement including all the other parts that should be replaced while they were in there (water pump, tensioner, bushings, etc.).
I then got quotes from other shops and dealers which were higher. Plus they did not say anything about changing out the other parts until I mentioned it.
I scheduled an appointment and Jesse completed the work by the end of the day. He showed me the old parts and the OEM box for the water pump. I paid what Jesse quoted me over the phone. Jesse was very professional and explained everything to me.
Great shop and great owner. I will refer friends and continue to do business with Neighborhood Garage.

I found them by accident years ago, and have been going back ever since. I have a friend who is a retired Beaurau of Auto Repair inspector. When I told him that I go to "Neighborhood Garage", he said.... "Yeah... they do good work." An endorsement from a B.A.R inspector is about as good as you can get. I have never had any problems with my vehicles after I have had them serviced, and currently, my car is in their shop for a Brake Job. Midas wanted $800, and they are doing it for $400. 'Nuff said. I don't know if I should be posting this, because I don't want them to get *too* popular, or I won't be able to get my car in!! :)
They are a great shop, and well worth the visit.

I love this place. Several months ago, I was borrowing my dad's Saab. It would sputter and die if you drove it for too long, so I brought it in to see if they could see anything wrong with it. Not many people are familiar with Saabs, but he took a look for me anyway. Not able to find anything, they didn't charge me. Yesterday, my car sprang a massive oil leak - the oil pressure sensor popped out. Brought it in at 8am today, left at 9am with everything fixed (new sensor, new oil) for under $70, including labor. When I asked them about replacing my serpentine belt, they quoted me a price much better than anyone else. Very professional, polite, and honest. As long as I live in this area, this is my go-to place.

Moving from the Bay Area to the Sacramento Area has been a very tough experience for me especially when it comes to finding an honest mechanic. My uncle is a certified Honda Mechanic in the Bay Area with his own shop and he's been working on both my Hondas for years. Now that I live in Sacramento, i had a hard time finding a mechanic I can trust. Finally at the suggestions of my co-worker, he told me to check out Neighborhood Garage in Rancho Cordova and ask for Jesse. THE PROBLEM...Because of the 99 degree weather, my 19 year old Honda Accord's cooling system went awry and coolant leaked all over the place. My uncle diagnosed it as either a busted thermostat, a busted hose expanded because of the heat, or possibly a radiator problem. Worse comes to worse getting a new radiator can cost between $400-$600 at the dealer. After getting my car towed to Neighborhood Garage, I met with Jesse and he told me what he was going to do to make sure he diagnoses the problem correctly. A few hours laters, he told me that a bypass hose got busted and the thermostat failed which led to the humongous loss of coolant. HIs shop closes at 5pm but I told him that I wouldn't make it at 5 because I got off work at 4:30 (His shop is about 25 miles from my work getting on a freeway with no carpool lanes) and he said he'd stay a little later and wait for me to make sure I got my car that day. When I got to the shop, he showed me everything that was wrong and he showed me what was replaced. When it was all said and done, the damage was well below $100. (I asked another mechanic of the same job closer to my work just to compare and he says the labor alone would be over $200!) After I got the work done, I explained the situation to my uncle the Honda Mechanic and he was pretty impressed with what he heard. In summary, Neighborhood Garage in Rancho Cordova, is a place I would take my car again! Jesse the shop manager is a very nice guy, the shop has the best prices in town, and most importantly, he's an honest guy. He said himself that "There really is no reason to be a shady mechanic because my business is based off referral and one bad customer experience can ruin me. I live by that code and when you think about it, cars will always need some kind of repair, and I'd rather do an honest job so my customers will come back than lose the business." So far this work ethic has worked for him because when I got to his shop at around 5:20 pm there were a few customers wanting an oil change and other repairs and they told me how great his shop is. They're also a member of the BBB and have a satisfactory rating according to one patron. Too bad I live pretty far from his location now and I found a closer mechanic but Jesse still deserves his props!

I don't usually write reviews, but my experience with Neighborhood Garage was amazing. My brake lights were out for some reason, and many other shops wanted more than $150 to diagnose the problem. Neighborhood Garage diagnosed the problem and let me gain access to the part I needed to replace for less than half that price. Fantastic service. They get really busy, but the wait is worth it. Ask for Carl - he's a wizard.

Holy cow! An honest mechanic.
This is great. One of the difficulties of moving to a new city is finding a mechanic that you trust. When my beloved 17 year old camry started spewing steam I went right to Midas. The quote came back around 1000.00 (more than the car is worth) there was a lot of salesmanship involved and some none-too-subtle pressure and intimidation. Luckily I was so infuriated by the attempts to imply that my car might just destroy an entire city block, were I to attempt to drive it somewhere for a second opinion, that I stormed out of midas and right onto the pages of yelp. Jesse and his staff were awesome. They understood that I wasn't interested in repairs that exceeded the value of the car, there was no attempt to upsell, they just correctly diagnosed the problem and quickly fixed it. My total cost was less than 75.00 to replace the thermostat. I can't say enough good things about the work these guys did. Go there. Be happy.

I moved to Sac a little less than two years ago and can finally say it feels so GOOD to have a mechanic you feel you can trust, a car repair shop with reasonable prices and great turn around time. Both the owner and his wife are friendly and informative. The workers, I think I often get Terry (/), are pleasant as well. Whenever, I need service in an area they dont do or arent proficient in, they have referrals and ALL their referrals have been great too:affordable and honest.

We have been taking our cars here for years. They do consistently good work, Jesse will tell you exactly what is wrong and what needs to be done and what you can wait on if needed. Their prices are extremely reasonable. Recently I took my Hyundai Elantra to another garage nearer where I live when the check engine light went on. They wanted almost $1400 to fix the car, so I brought it to Jesse and the bill was $170. Honest, reliable, good work. Thanks Jesse and Company!

I was referred to Neighborhood Garage by a co-worker and I love this reasonably priced car repair business. Jesse came across as very honest and he was able to get me in and out quickly. I saved hundreds of dollars on a timing belt replacement back in 2008 and then saved again when I had some brake work etc. done last month. If you want an affordable place to take your car that you can trust Neighborhood Garage would be a great place to try.

I have taken my car to Jesse at Neighborhood Garage for over 5 years and I would not take my car anywhere else. He is honest, extremely knowledgable, and very reasonable and affordable. Being a women some shops may take advantage of the fact that I know nothing about cars, but Jesse always explains the work he needs to do and why. He never tries to upsale or put anything into my car that is not needed. He is walked me in his garage many times to show me the work and why the car is acting the way it is. He is very busy, but always manages to fit in an oil change or an apt within the week that I call. My sister also takes her car to Jesse and still comes to Sac for him to work on her car and she lives in San Francisco!! I recommend him to everyone! I have price compared with Jesse and never fail, he always has the lowest, most reasonable prices. If you own a honda or acura Jesse specializes in these, but I would recommend him for any vehicle!!
