They are a chop shop. Told me my entire power steering system needed to be replaced because my pump exploded and the repair would cost per $1400. Took it to another garage who declared that to be bullshit and they fixed it for $300. I've been driving it for three months with absolutely no problems. They pulled a similar stunt with my mother who was told her cars computer was failing so the car was no longer safe to drive. Fixing it would have costed more than the car was worth, but it turns out the battery was just faulty.

Totally professional, speedy, thorough, with good explanations of overcharges. (Tom had called me earlier in the morning to tell me that my van needed a new part that would cost more than the original estimate. However, we had a bad connection, so I missed a lot of the conversation! In it, he explained that the part was more expensive, but I missed that and when I saw the total bill I was surprised. Pilar asked Tom to explain it to me and he did to my satisfaction.) Now my oil leak is not only fixed, he also put brake fluid in and topped off the rest of my fluids for a low cost. I had previously gone to an independent mechanic named Grego, but I won't be going back to him. For me, Dave's Garage is the place to go.

My whole entire family has been bringing our cars here for years. Never once have any of us felt that unnecessary work was done and any work we have had done has been at a fair and honest price. Everything has always been explained (and parts shown to us if necessary) in terms we can understand. The staff is always friendly and service is extremely prompt! I've had the dealership tell me I need all this expensive work done, afterwards I would bring it to Dave's only to find out the dealership was just trying to get money out of me and there was either (1) not a problem or (2) the problem was only minor and was fixed at a fraction of the cost! I would recommend going to Dave's for a second opinion every time!! They will be your go to mechanics after that!!!

I've been using Dave's Garage for more than 10 years and am always completely satisfied with the service. They are fair and honest. They have referred to me to other businesses that were able to do the work for a lower price on more than one occasion. They have also recommended when it is time to get rid of a car because the repair bills are not worth it. Both of these examples show they want what is best for the customer, not necessarily their wallet. Tom runs a great shop and I would recommend them to everybody!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE!!!!! WORST AUTO REPAIR SHOP IN SOUTH BEND! I TOOK MY CAR HERE TO HAVE THE BRAKES AND STARTING ISSUE LOOKED AT, THEY DIDNT KNOW WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT. I AM A MECHANIC AND TOOK MY CAR IN FOR A 2ND OPINION. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!! ITS NOT EVEN RUN BY A GUY NAMED DAVE, ITS RUN BY TOM AND BOB AND ARE COMPLETELY DUMB TO CARS. Service above and beyond. I have been there three times total and thought I had given a review before but apparently not. Here's how it's worked for me: I call them with what I think would be a serious problem, and not only does he say I could bring it in, I could bring it in the next day and have it done the next day. Once it did take more than one day, but in that case, one of their courteous workers gave me a ride home before working on it. The one time, I had what I thought were brake problems and gave them carte blanche to do whatever they wanted--even if it meant replacing all the rotors and drums. They told me later it was just an unnecessary plate hanging down and rubbing against something. They removed the plate and problem solved. I told Tom at the time how wowed I was--they had the permission to do *any* work they wanted on my van, and went for the real problem, not the one that would profit them more!
That wasn't the problem that made it take more than one day. He wanted permission to fix my hood latch, which was becoming dangerously loose. I knew it was, and I knew Dave's would charge me fairly, so I gave them permission. I don't remember if they kept it overnight or they sent me home with it, but I was there the next day, the fixed latch hood took an hour and I waited for an hour and it was done. They charge me fairly every time I go there. Last time, they charged my a/c, and not only did it, they told me it'd be in an hour when I brought it in the next day; I brought it in early and it was done in 45 minutes, and at an excellent price, too.
For excellence in auto repair, you really can't go anywhere but Dave's. Always pleasant to talk to, will communicate your problems clearly, and solve your problems so you never have them back for a second time. They're trustworthy and excellent, which is rare these days.
