It's never great to hear that your car needs work. It's even more terrible when the dealership tries to rip you off by a margin of 2x+ (and tries to tell you they're giving you a "great price.")
When Christian told me MPG could do the work for half the price, I was already sold. Then he informed me that my car had a wheel lock on it and they couldn't find the key - guess who "misplaced" it when I last had my tires done? The dealership. After being sent to voicemail by the dealership 8x I finally talked to a human and they said "yeah we usually leave it in the glove compartment, if it's not there, sorry." They said my only option was to take the car to the dealer and have them try the 60+ master keys they had (which they'd likely have charged me some ridiculous hourly labor rate for).
Christian went to the dealer himself and got the wheels unlocked. He didn't charge me anything extra for it. They did the brake work still within the day as he promised and I got my car back when I expected to. After such crappy experiences with car service in the past I didn't realize it could get this good.

A few years ago when I was in LA, my front driver-side window failed and fell completely into the door. Got that fixed. Last year, my back driver-side window failed and fell completely into the door. I went to MPG Auto Service and got that fixed. The price quoted was similar to what I paid in LA for the other window, and with all the 5-star Yelp reviews, I didn't ask any questions. I was so happy with the experience.
This month, my front passenger-side window failed. I once again went to MPG, dropped off my car in the morning before work, and received a call regarding a quote.
Dan quoted me about $65 more than what I paid last year. When I asked him why the price had gone up so much, he said that it was because it was a different door, so the parts were different and more expensive. This didn't seem right to me, so I declined repairs with them until I could look into it more. I got my car after work, and Dan had left a quote on paper for my review. When I got home, I pulled out my MPG invoice from last year and compared it with my new quote.
The hourly labor rate has remained the same - the price increase from the labor comes from a 1.5 hour quote vs. the 1.4 hour actual last year, so no issue with that.
What I have an issue with, however, is that it turns out either Dan lied to me or, to give him the benefit of the doubt, he was misinformed. The part used in my new quote is the EXACT same part used to fix my other window from last year (part number MR287309). And it had gone from $128 in July 2015 to $178 in July 2016, a $50 (~40%!) increase.
I really, really hate that I found this out because I've lost all trust in MPG and what I initially thought to be a practice of fair pricing. Now I have to ask questions, and you should too.

I made a doofus move while parking and damaged my engine splash guard severely, it was dragging on the ground. At 4:40pm I called Dan at MPG and he told me to come on by, even though he closed at 5. He cut off the guard and refused to charge me, despite my insistence at paying him for his time, and wouldn't budge on this, so I figured I'd write this review to thank him (not that he needs more 5-star reviews!)
With great doctors, dentists, auto repair guys, etc., it's a bit of a weird thing -- you don't want to be in a position to need to talk to them, but you'd love to see them again. I hope my car never needs another service, but if (when) it does, I'll be bringing it to MPG.

I have to echo what another yelper said-this place is the most ethical car place I have ever been to. I took my car here this week to get oil changed, new tires, struts, and brakes. I was given an estimate and they charged me that exact estimate. This is amazing to me because apparently they had to do some extra work that wasn't initially accounted for. I've seen places where they have a disclaimer about how if you get an estimate, the only guarantee they have is that they will not go below said estimate. When I called to check on approximately what time my baby would be ready, the owner said it would be an hour and he was currently cleaning the wiper blades because they were all gunked up and I need to be able to clean the windshield if it rains this weekend. I was very touched. This place goes above and beyond.

Quick service, on time, fair prices and excellent customer service. With full of knowledge workers, they took care of my car immediately.
I took my Lexus in for a service, and felt that my car was changing gears harshly. They told me more about the issue over the phone than Lexus maintenance center did in the 3 different days I took it there.
Got my oil, brakes changed and fixed the small transmission issue I had while giving me discounts I didn't know they had. Honesty goes a long way so I'll only be getting my car serviced here from now on.

I've been bringing my car to MPG for a couple years now. Mostly for basic oil changes and such. That's good and all and I've had excellent service every time, but what separates them from the rest is the trust that they've established.
One of the biggest concerns people have about picking an auto repair service is that they will get sold on stuff they really don't need, and there's unfortunately a lot of auto shops that do this. Well, case in point for why I love MPG...my battery died after having my battery run with the car off for an extended period. I was about half a block away when that happened, so I called them up, and both Christian and Dan came by to assess the situation. They brought a jumper box, jumped me, and told me to drive it for half an hour, but that I might need a new battery (never changed it on my car yet).
Brought it in today to get a replacement, and Dan told me that while the battery could die on me again in the not too distant future, since it started fine this morning, and based on the circumstances that led to it needing a jump in the first place, it would probably be ok for now and the replacement wasn't a super urgent matter. Since the odds are I'd be at work or at home if the battery dies again, I decided to save the job for another time.
The tidbit to take away from my story is this:
A good auto repair service will tell you what is wrong with your car and fix the problem.
A great auto repair service will do the same, but also tell you when a costly repair or replacement might not be needed at the time, even if they could make a quick sale right then by saying otherwise.
That trust is invaluable and why even though I didn't replace my battery today, I'll be sure to bring my vehicle back when I do decide to replace it (or need any other work for that matter).

Five months before I came to visit MPG, I went to another shop and I was told that my brakes have 30% left and would last for three more months. I did not change my brakes at that time. Five months later (the time when the brakes were supposed to be worn out two months before), I came to MPG and asked for a synthetic oil change and brakes inspection. After the oil change, the guy in MPG told me that my brakes have 35% left and would last for one more year! The guy is so honest. This story becomes a joke that I enjoy with my friends.
After 5000 miles of my first visit to MPG, my car reached 30000 miles. Dealers charge too much for 30000 miles service and most of work is only inspection, so I went to MPG again asking for an inspection and a tire rotation. The guy recommended me to perform an oil change because he believes that although the car uses synthetic oil, oil change should still be done every 5000 miles. By reading Maintenance Guide of my car, I figured out that it does not need synthetic oil change every 5000 miles. The change can be performed every 10000 miles. So I insisted for no oil change this time. He said this would be not good to my car, my car might have leakage, fail smoke, etc, but still did the tire rotation, and for FREE.

GREAT service. I came in for a same-day oil change and I think the owner helped me - he was so accommodating. He told me up front the price and timeframe and penciled me in only a few hours beforehand. When I got there, everything was done exactly as he'd said, and there is free WiFi in the waiting room so it's a perfect place to come on a lunch break if you work in Mountain View.
In addition to the oil change, the owner helped me investigate a rattling noise under my car and installed my license plates - all around great service. I will definitely be back to MPG for future oil changes!

I am one of those people that knows nothing about cars and can be (and has been) easily scammed for car repairs. But this place knows their stuff and doesn't charge you unnecessarily. HOW REFRESHING! I came in for an oil change and inspection and left with an oil change and that's it! He told me my rear tires should be changed soon, but recommended going to Costco for their prices!
I also went there once because my front headlight wasn't working. Instead of charging me $500+ like the other places, they recommended calling my insurance company and even told me what to say to them to get them to cover the repair. I would never have thought of that! This place is amazing. Go here.

These guys are the absolute best and most honest mechanics I've ever had.
What is sad is as of 7/31, I found out that they are probably closing soon due to the people who own the land wanting to demolish the shops for a driveway for a condo unit. This is a tragedy, as these guys are some of the best owners and mechanics around.
In the meantime, everyone who is a customer will be sad and I for one will have a hard time going anywhere else. It won't be the same without these guys.

BEST PLACE IN THE BAY!!!! I was an idiot and ran over a nail and had no idea what to do. I write positive yelp reviews for only truly extraordinary businesses. In fact this makes two total.
There's a reason virtually every review for MPG is a five star rating. Took our Prius in when dashboard lit up with warning icons. They scanned the DTC codes (no charge) and manager described two possible causes. They tried the by far less expensive approach, which fixed the problem and I was on my way less than 90 minutes after I walked in off the street. I'm pretty certain the typical dealership would have gone straight to the far more expensive approach and I would be out a boatload of money. In fact, my dealership charged me $140 just for reading DTC codes when the car was in for its last scheduled maintenance. No more dealers for me. I'm a MPG customer.

I have consistently received great service here over the years.
Most recently, I had diagnosed a faulty part myself and replaced it with a new part from a big chain auto parts store. The part only worked for 10 minutes until the problem returned. Fearing I had misdiagnosed the problem, I took my car to MPG. They confirmed that my diagnosis was correct. It was just a bad-quality part. They got a new, better part for HALF the price I had paid at the auto parts store. The part is still running strong!
Even better, they encouraged me to return the faulty part (something I didn't think was possible) because it had failed so quickly. I did, and got my money back.
I will keep bringing my car here, for sure.

AWESOME Service!
I had brake inspection this morning at MPG because I thought my brake got some problem. But it turned out to be working perfectly. Christian is a very nice guy. He also offered a road drive with me to help me get confident with my brake.
I checked my brake at some other place as well and they also couldn't find any problem with it. But they offered me a $130 brake diagnosis afterwards. MPG just saved $130 for me. I definitely highly recommend this place and will visit again for auto services. Thanks very much Christian!

Just walked out from a 60K and wheel alignment after installing some new tires. I am very, very particular about my car. So far, MPG has not failed me yet. See my previous review when they missed a crush washer and fixed it on the spot without questioning. Instead of doing a blanket 60K, they were able to itemize every line item fixed or inspected. I have a great respect for this shop. Their estimates for time and cost are both accurate.
Dan and Christian run a tight ship, and their mechanics all have extensive training and certifications. I'm comfortable leaving my car here. They charge a fair rate given the expensive real estate and high income in the area. Reliable is an understatement.
PROTIP: I've had my fair share of aftermarket modifications done to my car, and their knowledge in these areas and general passion for automotive is also a plus for me.

Awesome staff. Swift and honest service. Love going here to get work done. These guys price match if you have any doubts, but they usually beat it with the initial quote.
Had to get a new part for my car. They got it within 24 hours and had it installed in less than a half hour.
I always feel like these guys are willing to go out of their way to help their customers out and it establishes true loyalty with them.
Love the service here and would suggest them to anyone. No pressure, no BS, just honest quality service.

Took my truck in to get an oil leak diagnosed and get an oil change. They inspected my vehicle and did the oil change then gave me a call and let me know what they found shortly after I dropped it off, when I walked to pick up my truck(10 minute walk from my house is a bonus) Christian told me everything in detail and instead of insisting I need certain things done like many other places try to push on you, he actually told me if I don't drive this vehicle often it's not worth it, this might be the first time I've ever been to any auto repair business including dealerships that didn't try to sell me something. He recommended an engine steam cleaning place if I ever did want to fully get the leak found and repaired and I was on my way. Great and honest service. I'll be a customer for all my vehicles as long as they are around.

I had some braking issues with my Prius, and am new to the area, so I brought it in based on the reviews I found online. The staff was busy, but took my car in during their lunch break and gave me an estimate. I called around to compare the cost, and it was better than anywhere else I could find. They performed the work (replacing all brake pads, rotors and cylinders) in just a few hours, and even threw in a free oil change. I realized later that they had also topped off my fluids when I noticed my windshield washer fluid had been refilled. Their attention to detail was greatly appreciated, and they deserve the five-star rating that they have here.
I have been driving the car for about a month and half since the service, even taking it on a road trip to Northern Washington, and it continues to run great.

If I could give 10 stars I would.
As Julia L..'s review says, "Honest mechanics are unicorns. These guys are unicorns." This couldn't be more accurate. I've gotten two big maintenance jobs done here and both times I was more than impressed with Christian and Dan's professionalism and honesty.
During my most recent visit (a belt and water pump replacement), they heard a noise coming from under the hood that they wanted to investigate before they felt comfortable returning my car to me. Just to make sure it was safe, they kept my car overnight and ordered a rental car, which was waiting for me at the shop when I got off work. The next morning they called and patiently explained what was up, and that it wasn't a big deal. Something I could replace / repair anytime and that it wasn't going to impact the safety or performance of my car.
Their prices are also very reasonable.
I wouldn't take my car anywhere else! If you are looking for a top-notch auto shop, MPG is the best, hands down.

Took my car in for a repair based on the great reviews online. These guys are very knowledgable. Car was fixed and works great. Why the three stars? I was bummed when after they checked out the car and did a very straight forward job that I had 30% more added to the final bill to check their work. The final bill was only 10% less than the dealership quote and ended up being much more than other quotes I was given.

1) super knowledgeable group. super impressed.

My car needed an oil change and decided to look for a different place to go to instead of going to Honda and wait 2 hours for service. Checked on Yelp and saw all the good reviews and made my decision to go here.
Came here right at 8am for an oil change ($29) and was told that my car would be done in 30 minutes. Walked out of there right at 830am as promised. They inspected my car and told me that my car was in great condition and even checked Car Fax to see if my car was recalled.

After being fed up with dealership service, I perused Yelp to find a new place to take my car. I only got a simple oil change today, but I already know this is where I will be bringing my car from now on for all services.
Christian and another gentleman were very friendly, and my oil was changed within a half an hour (compared to a two hour wait at the dealership). They are honest and do not push you to do service you don't necessarily need at the moment. They let me know some things I might want to think about doing in the future, and he ran my VIN to look for recalls. An honest business that really cares about their customers.

I had been going to W&K in San Jose for more than 15 years. Other than some relatively minor communication issues (e.g. not calling the right phone #), they were honest and did quality work at reasonable prices. so when it moved, I was totally devastated.
After experiencing problems with some other auto repair places (after W&K), my BF found MPG. By the way both of us have cars that are older than 15 years :-))
At first, I wasn't sure if MPG would work out. As luck would have it, I have been a very happy MPG customer for more than 2 years now. things I like about MPG:
- professional and respectful staff
- facility is well maintained and very clean
- both Dan and Christen would take the time to explain what needs to be done, how much and by when, no surprises
- they are extremely knowledgeable about cars and their "hiccups". Instead of doing unnecessary "repairs" (and charge me) they would point out the cause and provide effective solutions.
- when you need to do routine maintenance, call ahead. They will work on your car without delay if you arrive at the appointment time.
" when god closes a door, he opens another!" never rings so true for me in my transition to MPG.

This is my second time here. I really like the attitude of the manager, Christian.
I have my low beam out. Even though I didn't make an appointment and he was lack of crews, he managed to help me installed the new bulbs.
The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the technician guy. He was not friendly in any ways. And I'm ok with that if he can do his job correctly. But he did not. After driving awhile, I realized the lightness of the beams on two sides were not the same. So I checked myself and found that the technician didn't put the bulb into the slot correctly. The bulb was side off, so it pointed towards the top, instead of front.
With that said, I'm a little worried about the quality from the technician, but very satisfied with the management. I will give another try.

I change my review to 5 stars. As said above, the management here is unbeatable. Just one hour after I put my initial 4 stars review, I got a call from the owner Dan. To my standard, 4 stars is good enough, but not to him. He really wants all his customers to be 100% satisfied. So he said he would talk the the team about the issue and offered me free oil change, as I was already happy with their service I scheduled a regular maintenance. And today I did the service, not only have I had the free oil change, they put all the maintenance service on house. So they would be my go-to service for anything in the future as no brainer.

Came here to smog my Honda with a groupon back in 03/20/13 and never left.
The service is outstanding: you schedule your appt, you get in, you get out, your car is fixed / oil changed / engine flushed / etc. Both Dan and Christian are true professionals in every sense of the word. They take the time to explain the issue at hand, show you their parts quotes, and give their candid opinion on the state of your car with - this is important - ZERO BS.
I take both of our family's cars there (Honda & Toyota). My brother picked me up once from an appt and picked up on the shop's honesty; he now brings his Audi and girlfriend's Jeep there on the regular. Waiting area is clean and comfortable; there's also cable TV and WiFi.
Car maintenance performed in the last 18 months:
Oil change (regular)
Smog check
Brake pads
Wheel bearings
Seatbelt / airbag sensors
Fan belts
Engine flush
Engine leaks
If it's a service or part they don't repair (e.g. body work), they will give a referral that can be trusted on where to go to get the work done. They have told me to get work done at the dealer - what shop vulturing for clients would ever say that?
The five star hype is legit. MPG genuinely cares about the customer and how they are perceived in the marketplace. This is not your run of the mill shop. May they stay long and prosper in Mt View.
It feels good to call MPG our mechanic.

I was looking around in Mountain View for a reliable auto shop for tune ups and bigger repairs. What matters most for me is being in the hands of people I can trust-- who will take especially good care of my car and give me the right advice to make sure it stays running well. This place makes getting any work done on my car a pleasant experience. I can't put into better words what hasn't been said already on all the reviews here, but I do walk out of this place every time feeling accomplished, more knowledgeable, and extremely satisfied with the service I had paid for. All the service done on my car has been quick and reasonably priced; despite how popular or busy this place gets, they've been able to accommodate oil change appointments on the same day or within a couple days. They are very honest and friendly and didn't mind when I told them I'd shop around a bit for tires. I have been coming to MPG for about 2.5 years and I could not be more enthusiastic in recommending it to anyone who is looking for a seamless and affordable car servicing experience. Christian and Dan are the best-- squeezing me in when I have car issues and providing me with alternatives at different costs for fixing up my fixer upper! They offer counsel on the timing of various repairs to coincide with things like smog check, are patient in explaining the interactions of the parts in the car, and are thoughtful in considering the complications that arise with having a non-functional car to resolve them in advance. I think they may be moving and unless they are moving up closer to the city, I will be sad to think of the longer drive that it will take to continue to have the best guys work on my car!

The prices here probably aren't as good as you may think. I was looking for place to get a brake and lamp check, and was quoted over $200. When I asked why it was so expensive, the guy started making excuses about how Mountain View is expensive and how the equipment required is very expensive, and very few shops buy it. Well, a shop around the corner on Pioneer was only $150, and I eventually went to another shop on El Camino that charged me $60 with a coupon.
Yeah, they were friendly, but $60 vs $200+ Someone's overcharging....

This place is awesome! Christian is very friendly and helpful.
I noticed my car's "check engine" light was on and i took my car to MPG. They ran a check and found out it's because the unburned carbon has clogged my air inflow. And they cleared the carbon out for no charge! The whole process took like 15 min and i was still able to go to work on time. Thanks Christian!

I don't oftentimes leave reviews for businesses that aren't restaurants, but these guys warrant it.
The service is phenomenal here - the guys at the front of the house (usually Dan or Christian) are super friendly and make sure that you feel comfortable (both physically and with the work on your car). I can't say I've spoken much to the guys in the back of the house working on the cars, but their repairs have always been on time and I haven't had any issues.
These guys do great work, they're reasonably priced, and they're super pleasant to interact with. I've recommended a few friends to this place and they've all had similarly awesome experiences here. I'm going to be moving further up north soon, but you can be sure that they'll still have my business even when I do.

After almost 3 years, I am still a loyal MPG Auto Service customer. Even more so after going to a different place after my first MPG visit. Before finding MPG, I had purchased a Groupon for Precision Auto Tune Care in Sunnyvale on Wolfe Rd. Not wanting to waste it, I decided to go there for my next oil change instead of MPG. After the oil change, the guy said I had a very common Honda Civic issue, and the part in question is worn down and needs to be replaced. He also recommended flushing out a particular system and some other minor things. I asked for the list of issues and he insisted on giving me a quote. He said the quoted price can be discussed and asked, though more like pushed, to have me fix it today. I got out of their unscathed and went to MPG with all of Precision's "concerns." Christian told me the part was not worn down and that I will need to get that system flushed down the road, but was currently okay. Christian saved me a good chunk of change and did not even charge me for the inspection. Til this day, the part Precision identified is perfectly fine.
MPG continues to offer great service, honest feedback and never tries to push any repairs on you. As a car novice, and that is probably an understatement, MPG has been invaluable.

Love this place! Everyone is extremely awesome, nice, and helpful. I definitely trust these guys with all my car repairs/maintenance. They never try to push repairs or sales on me.
When I do need work done they always provide a recommended time frame of how urgent the repair is if I choose not to get it done right away. Their invoices are detailed and they price fairly.
I live about 30 min from this place but am always willing to make the drive just to make sure that my car gets serviced from these guys. I know that I never have to deal with the BS from other auto shops that tell me I need a new filter every time I visit, new tires, or a tire alignment...
I would highly recommend this place. They take appointments too :)

So, I had one of the VW Jettas and it's old (2000). Of course the license plate light goes out and it is just one of those in the long list of things that keep happening to my car. But she still runs well even after 200,000 miles.
Anyways, I went to VW dealer. While they were friendly enough, they charged me $50 to just play with some things, I, on the other hand, waited over an hour. They then said, it was an electrical problem, which I already figured. Then, they wanted to charge me another $150 just to diagnose - NO WAY.
So, I found a local place with good reviews and called them up. The guy on the phone was super friendly and let me know they don't charge to diagnose (1st hour) and then $104 (2nd hour). This morning at 8:30 am I drop it off and receive wonderful service. Then I even got to walk back to my condo - so close! A few hours later I call it and viola - done! After I took another short walk back (discovering an even shorter route), the guy there really took the time to inform me about the process, unions, how they fixed it and something I need to look at in the future.
Now, based on this experience, I will be happy to make this my local auto shop.

I have never had a better experience with a group of mechanics ever. I was hearing a weird noise from my Honda CRV intermittently and not only did they raise up my car to inspect it, they called me in to walk me through the whole process, pointing out things to be aware of, things that are looking good and possible sources for the noise. They then let me take one of their mechanics on a 10 min drive to try to reproduce the noise so they could have a better idea for it. Once they realized that it was something to do with the hydraulic pump or rack, they told me it'd be really expensive to fix and that they were going to call Honda with my vin number to check if I was still under warranty so that I didn't have to pay for the repairs. Who does that?! Since a lot of them are former dealership guys, they know the system and gave me a ton of suggestions on how to badger Honda into repairing my car for me since it's still relatively new and in great shape. I couldn't believe what great service they provided and for no charge! I'll be going here until my dying days. 10/10 best and friendliest mechanics I've ever interacted with.

No, you're not imagining things - this place really does have 5 stars with well over a hundred reviews!
Compared to other mechanics in the area, including chains like Midas, the staff here is very friendly, honest, straightforward, and helpful. They also make sure you get a very reasonable price on everything, including oil changes. They don't do unnecessary repairs here. The best auto shop I've been to in the Mountain View / Palo Alto area.

It's rare for me to write a review but I was so incredibly impressed with my service today that I had to chime in. I came for a brake repair (my steering wheel was wobbling when I applied brakes). Just based on the level of detail of explanation I got when I called on the phone (in a very clear, well-spoken, intelligent manner) made me feel in my gut that this was a great place.
When I actually arrived, although I was a bit confused where to put my car, the same man who I called greeted me and they started on the service right away. What they found was that my brakes had silicone applied to them which was a mistake from where I had my brakes serviced before (Wheel Works), as silicone melts - and it got all sticky and nasty. They cleaned that up and explained in detail how Wheel Works got it wrong, and how different folks handle brakes to cut corners. All the explanation was incredibly interesting, and the fact that the guy took time to explain that level of detail to me was both surprising and impressive.
I also mentioned that I had a leak in my sunroof, and he explained a great deal of detail about what was going on there - they blew air through it basically free of charge, and they let me know what the next steps are with it if the issue continues.
I also have to mention that while I was there, I witnessed a guy haggling (even after they gave him a $50 discount), and he offered to write a good review, and they were very clear to him that they don't pay for good reviews. I think that speaks for itself - all the 5 star reviews are very warranted and well-earned.

Came in here randomly for an oil change, smog, and tire pressure check. They were very nice and accommodating. They took care of my car overnight and kept my in the loop on what they were doing. The price was better than going to the Toyota dealership and you can't beat the small business congeniality. Best part is that they gave me an option to fix extra things they found and didn't make me feel pressured to buy services I couldn't afford or didn't think were necessary. I created a Yelp account just to review these guys. I don't have much to add beyond what others have said, but they were not only fast, but also very communicative even when I emailed them out of hours.
I had a difficult time coming by during regular hours, and not only were they super flexible with helping me outside of their regular times, but they also provided some of the quickest, most efficient, and friendliest service I have ever experienced.
I don't know a lot about cars, but I used them as a third opinion on a couple of issues with my vehicle, and they were by far and away the least pushy, and most helpful. They took the time to educate me about the parts and logic behind the changes, which helped to put some of the recommendations into context. Definitely recommend!

Really, if there were 10 stars, I'd give it to these guys.
Last year, when they were still Advanced Automotive, I took my car to get some serious work done, and it cost a pretty penny. They worked with me, since I was broke, to make it affordable, and since then, have hooked me up with free oil changes...because "we know that you spent a lot of money here last time you were here". Have you EVER heard of mechanics that care about you, more than making a buck? I haven't.
Dan and Christian are superheroes for your car. I'm always in and out super quickly, and love chatting with them while I wait. I'm into local businesses that remember your name, and care enough to ask about your life. And this is just like that...I've never met more competent, friendly, customer-oriented mechanics in my life.

Wow, this place deserves 6 stars.
I was blown away by their excellent service using my Groupon for an oil change, their helpfulness, great attitude, speed and efficiency, and value. They seemed extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their jobs. Usually when using Groupons I am underwhelmed by the level of service. This place would have gotten 5 stars, but with the Groupon on top of it, they deserve 6 stars.
Often I am disappointed by businesses that have 4-5 stars on Yelp, but in this case, I can see why they have 5 stars - well deserved!

It's a great place for quick service and a cheap price to change your oil. There were about 2-3 people waiting to get their oil changed when I arrived there in the morning on a Saturday. The wait wasn't bad.
The only thing I was a little skeptical about was when the tech gave me all kinds of expensive quotes to replace different parts on my car and how I had an oil leak. I appreciate, though, that he didn't push the issue. I will get a second or third opinion but so far, with my own monitoring, I don't need to replace parts yet.
I sure will consider coming back for an oil change though.

I went in for an oil change based on the all 5-star reviews of this place. They impressed me on so many levels that I also had to write a review of my own!
I arrived early for my appointment (easily scheduled online), and they took my car right away. The managers in the office were friendly and knowledgeable, making conversation without seeming pushy or overly chatty. They also rang up my oil change for the sale price on their website without me even mentioning it or showing them the coupon I had remembered to print and bring with me. They didn't try to upsell me on random new "problems" they wanted to fix with my car, and in fact they complimented me for having a vehicle in near-perfect condition! They were nice enough to point out one problem they *had* noticed, but instead of trying to push me to fix it with them right away, they said I was in good enough shape that I probably wouldn't need to replace the parts for up to a year and half. They gave me a quote for the work and got me on my way without any pressure, and it felt great!
I definitely recommend these guys for any kind of car work...they really know their stuff!

Christian knows the car in and out and he knows how to make you feel comfortable when the car is in their hands. I regularly get my oil changed from them and they do a free inspection alongside, listing all the possible critical and noncritical issues with the car.
I referred a friend to them for her car's window problem. They opened up the door, inspected the window, installed a screw to freeze the window so its safe for her to drive, put everything back and didn't even charge for the labor or parts! She was satisfied so was I.
My engine light turned on and every other mechanic was giving me a charge of $80 to do a computerized inspection of the check engine light, but they did the inspection for free.
They have 5 stars for a reason and both Dan and Christian work their asses off to keep their performance that way. I hope that they keep up the good work.

This is my second time coming to MPG. I have to say I am fairly impressed with their honesty, professionalism and service. I came in to get a few things done. I mentioned that a big retail competitor had a brake service for much cheaper and asked if he'd match it. He explained those places usually have that deal to pull customers in so that they can inspect the car and charge higher on other services. He price matched without any hesitation to make me happy.
I definitely recommend anyone looking for a good mechanic shop to drive over and talk to them in person for a quote. My only recommendation is to call them ahead of time to book an appointment as they usually get booked up the same day.

*So* glad I found this place (thank you Yelp!)! My clutch went out and I was doing some calling around to find out where to take it - and my very first conversation with Christian sold me. Whereas other shops were quick to say, oh, yeah, that'll be around $1,500, Christian was intelligent and thoughtful about what the issue might be and mentioned a couple other scenarios that were possibly going on, based on what I described. He struck me as very knowledgeable and also just considerate to talk through other possibilities.
I was not disappointed when I brought my car in - from start to finish, excellent communication, expert work on the car, and it runs better than ever. They really took care of me and went above and beyond the call of duty in fixing up my RSX (yay!). I will definitely be going back to these guys for any future repairs.

After one of the mechanic's (Christian) advice to get a new car (and some more careful deliberation), I ditched my junk car and got a new one! A year later I brought it in for a regular check up / oil change, and after the 15 minutes it took me to figure out that Advanced Automotive had changed their name to MPG Auto Service, I called to make an appointment and was able to make one that same day.
Got my car in and out within half an hour--maybe even twenty minutes. I guess there's not much maintenance new cars need. :)
MPG Auto Service is great. I've recommended them to at least 3 of my friends, all of whom shopped around at other mechanics/their car's original dealership, and ended up at MPG Auto Service for their reasonably priced and speedy service. Christian and the other guys there are extremely friendly, and I actually sorta enjoy going to get my car serviced. Also there's free wifi while you wait, which is always a plus.

I cannot recommend this place enough! These guys are honest, helpful, and earnest. A rare find in the Auto Maintenance world.
I had to have a lot of work done on my aging Camry after driving out from MN. Here are all the awesome things Christian and the team did for me and my car:
- Explained the several problems in detail. Drew pictures so I better understood what was going on.
- Explained why problems like these tend to happen
- Gave me a clear breakdown of the costs associated with the repair (quotes for each part, each hour of work, etc.)
- Gave me maintenance tips for the future

I completely forgot about this last offer until recently. Came in to get my oil changed and pulled out my card to pay. Then Christian reminds me - "We said we'd give you this one for free, so no need to pay." WHO DOES THAT? Awesome, honest people. That's who.
I just moved up to the city, but I will continue to drive down to Mountain View to get routine maintenance at MPG. My car has been running beautifully ever since. MPG is fantastic.

They are also incredibly honest and transparent. I never feel like they are pressuring me to make unnecessary purchases. That is rare to find at an auto garage.

This place is great!
I brought a used car I was going to buy to these guys, following excellent Yelp rating and reviews. They were really professional about it, did the inspection for free, gave me good advice about buying and a prioritized list of repairs the car would need in the nearest future, together with a quote. Also did the smog check, paid for by the seller.
After I went ahead and bought the car, I called several other nearby places with good ratings, trying to get a lower quote, but couldn't! I could probably bring the car to some really cheap 3-star place to get serviced, but I need the utmost reliability on my Tahoe trips, and you know they don't get 5 stars for nothing. Plus I liked their attitude the previous day.
So in a few days I brought the car to them again to get some of the recommended service done. Again, they were very friendly and professional, didn't push or try to sell me anything I didn't want (I refused to do the low-priority struts replacement and they were cool about it). The work ended up being a bit more costly than anticipated, but they gave me a discount to match the previous quote! They also changed the wipers and reattached the license plate that was shaky, both for free. AND they promised me a free oil change next time, plus a check-up on their repairs. Now that's a way to build long-term relationships with customers!
Other good points: they did all the work in one day (and there was quite a bit of work - timing belt/water pump/coolant, 120k major service, all new tires, ...) and the guy waited for me to pick up my car over an hour after work hours!
Bottom line: 5 stars well deserved

Short version: faster and cheaper than competition. Overdelivered.
TL/DR version:
Heard some nasty noises from my brakes and checked yelp for the best reviews. Went to one of the other places that was listed first, and they gave me a price quote that seemed high, so I called these guys and got one that was much lower.
I was told that they wouldn't be able to get to it today (Friday), but that I could drop it off for them to do it Monday. I was more free today, and thought I shouldn't be driving with sketchy brakes, so dropped it off right away, not-so-secretly hoping they'd get to it sooner. I got a prompt callback telling me the extent of the damage and a revised price quote (still ~$100 less than the other place), and another callback a couple hours later that it was done.
Total service time: 5 hours (got it for the weekend!)
Total savings: $100
Also, this is conveniently close to southbay lightrail and the MTV CalTrain if you need to drop it in the morning and still get to work.

I went in to check why my honda produces a screeching noise - about 3 to 4 months back. I have been wanting to write a review but then the server was down or I kept forgetting. I am back at MPG since I am looking for a smog test center and I saw these guys again on google maps search.
I must admit, when I took my car here a few months back, Christian took very good care of me. In the beginning, I must have misunderstood his explanation about my vehicle and I agreed to do the service that will get rid of the screeching noise (short axel for $600+). However, when I got my car back, I still heard the screeching noise I was talking about. Then I called Christian and he said that he fixed another popular problem from my make and model. Christian immediately told me to take my car back in for another diagnosis. He replaced my brake pads free of charge.
Another great thing is: He and another employee offered to drop off my car at my apartment complex because I wasn't able to pick it up due to having left my baby stroller in the car itself (and my baby wouldn't be able to walk that far, nor would I be able to carry her all the way on my own). Although I live only 5 minutes away from their service center, but no other mechanics in my entire life has ever helped me this way.
And now I am looking for a smog test center for my husband's car. I hope they will be able to take him in tomorrow :)

Having recently relocated from across the country, and not really having any idea what makes my car go, I was super hesitant to bring my car in anywhere. Being a girl definitely has its drawbacks for all things car concerned. Looking up reviews on Yelp and I stumbled across all these 5-star ratings, there's NO way that they're all right, right?
Wrong. In the span of 30 minutes, they had my oil changed AND managed to locate a rear window windshield wiper I'd been trying to get replaced for ages. Christian totally could've just told me where to get one and sent me on my merry way, but they were kind enough to have it driven over and only charged me for the wiper blade itself. Seriously. Amazeballs.
They know what they're doing here and they'll do everything in their power to make your day as awesome as possible. I'l definitely be back.

I decided to check this place out because of all the 5 star reviews on Yelp. It lived up to its online reputation!
I got a basic oil change and inspection and it only cost $20.83!! They were done in about 45 minutes. The surrounding neighborhood is good for strolling, so I took my dog for a walk instead of sitting around.
When I made my online reservation (on their website) I had written I needed a tire rotation, but the service guys didn't get the notice. When I was paying I let the office guys know I needed that tire rotation and they got it for me in 15 minutes at no charge. So just as a heads up, if you request something specific when making an online reservation, be sure to mention it again when you drop off your car.
Overall I was very satisfied with my experience and I'll be coming back to these guys again in the future!

These guys have everything the typical dealership repair center lacks - they're efficient, personable, and genuinely care about making sure you're getting the best service for your car.
After my car battery died twice in the span of 24 hours, I called Advanced Automative Repair. Within an hour, they had someone tow the car to their shop and called me regularly with updates while they inspected the car. Outside of the towing fee, they didn't charge me a dime since they couldn't confirm the source of the battery drain. Since then, my car battery hasn't given me any trouble.
A few weeks later, I got a screw stuck in my car tire. I brought it over to them, and within 15 minutes, they patched up my tire at no charge.
I can't thank these guys enough! I hope everyone continues to come here. Another total bonus is they've got experience with hybrid vehicles.

Excellent, friendly, professional service. They're in a small strip mall of automotive services along Evelyn, but don't be deterred. I called in late in the day for an oil change and a smog check and they were able to get me in. The owner was great and honest. The services they provided cost about half of what two other places quoted me earlier in the day. He pointed a couple of high points on my car which I had just fixed, and a couple of future needs, which I knew were coming, so there were no surprises and reaffirmed their honesty. As a new customer just passing through the area, we were very pleased with this shops's service and professionalism. This shop was very considerate of our time and got our repair done quickly while still honoring their other customers appointment times. We came at nine and they did a quick inspection but said they needed the lift to do a more thorough diagnostic. They had other customers ahead of us but said they could do it at 11:00am. We came back and waited in the lobby, where Christian was very informative about current trends in automotive manufacturing and repair. Dan told us that our car's problem was not a safety issue but that the rotors were warped and eventually would need to be replaced. He did not press us to have the work done but we did and the price was reasonable. I would definitely recommended this shop.

I DREAD TAKING MY CAR TO A MECHANIC SHOP. Why? Because most shops see that I am a girl so tend to rip me off, "thinking this lil Asian girl doesn't know what is or isn't wrong with her car anyways, why not make her change everything she does NOT need?"!! BUT NOT ADVANCED AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR. They're the first mechanic shop that I've been to that is honest, good priced and helpful.
Most of the time, taking my car to the shop is like having my teeth pulled out. I mean, I feel totally robbed and my problem still exist. I can't begin to describe how happy I am to have found Advanced Auto Repair. I've taken my big and small repairs to them and not once did they ever messed up; not once did I leave their shop feeling robbed. I've gotten my clutch work done here for 30% less of what other shops were quoting me. I've also gotten my suspensions and water pump fixed here too. And like other yelpers, I also had my oil changed here as well. They really know their stuff and they provide exceptionally customer service. These guys really do work hard to keep their customers happy. While other shops may not warranty the work performed on the vehicles, Advanced Auto Repair actually strives to work with the customer and may provided limited warranty on jobs they've done.
All in all, I recommend Advanced Automotive Repair to anyone who is seeking to do some repairs on their vehicles. These guys are amazing, they do not over charge, they get the repair done right and ON TIME. What more can you ask for? These guys were recommended by a friend, and they're awesome. The alternator in my car broke, and they were able to look at my car and diagnose the problem on short notice on a Saturday. They replaced the alternator Monday morning, and I was able to pick up my car in the early afternoon. The guys there were very friendly and down-to-earth. They didn't even try to get me to do a million other useless repairs/replacements. Very cool, will definitely be going back there for everything car-related in the future.
Update (4/17/16): MPG Auto continues to be awesome. Even though I now live in Oakland, I still take my car to MPG. It's definitely worth the drive. :)

Smog check review
Needed to get a smog check for my registration renewal so I came here since it was right next my work. Christian (?) was very friendly and responsive. I had to get my appt rescheduled twice due to the technician being out sick and for the machine being broken but each time Christian was very apologetic and even have the service on the house due to the inconvenience. Long overdue review for the amazing MPG Auto (formerly Advance Automotive). My husband, who loves driving his two cars, and I trust them with our three vehicles. (We have two German cars and an American car, even though they have a lot of signage for Japanese cars.) My husband and Dad have worked on our cars and we know that what Christian and Dan tell us is always trustworthy.
- They are always straight forward and I NEVER worry about them being like a typical mechanic.
- Prices are always reasonable (even when I used to compare to other shops).
- Often they just advise us on the car and I never feel pushed to get anything done that doesn't need to be done.
- The oil changes are a steal and I know they do a good look over for anything else I need to be aware of.
- They are always prompt and if something may take some time, they let us know so we can decide if it works for us.
- I rarely have to wait to bring something in (which is surprising since they are so awesome and popular).
- Today was a perfect example of their service. My husband and I were working on the car tires at home and realized we weren't sure about something. We drove it in and they helped us out, no problem.
- They are open on SATURDAY!
- Easy evening drop box service we have used a few times.
- When you move somewhere, you always want a good mechanic you can trust: Christian and Dan's company is a representation of this concept. Not only are they totally knowledgeable, but they are genuinely good people. (It started when my Dad's car broke down completely and we had it towed here. They (Christian and Dan) took great care of my Dad and his beloved old corolla, even keeping it on their lot until we could take it away.)

I'm impressed. Advanced Auto, now MPG, lives up to its mostly 5 star rating.
Came to MPG (whose internet coupon price was the same as what I was charged -- drove away from another shop who upped the price for a coupon I'd printed out that day). Just so you know, this isn't a quick in-and-out oil change place, took about 45 min. but I was also looking for a mechanic for future services & figured an oil change is a good way to size up the business. I've gone to some places before where I was given a whole list of things I "need" to get done "right away", & trying to upsell me on all sorts of services. Perhaps, it's due to my female gender. However, I've been under the hood & done a lot of repairs myself but am at the point I'd rather someone younger & more flexible take care of maintenance. I think I've found just the mechanics to do that.
First of all, no upselling, Instead, I got an oil change, tires inflated to correct pressure, lube, and a comment that my car's in good shape.
While I was waiting, another lady came in with a complaint that something was leaking under the car. They checked it out, told her that it was AC condensation & that unless it was a lot, that this was normal. Even advised her that her car might still be under warrenty if later she started having problems. I also listened in on another customer transaction -- again no upselling, thorough explanation of the problem, logistics of getting the part, etc.
I thought MPG was very professional, honest, & will use them again. Enjoyed conversing with Christian who gave me a little history behind their new company.

Since I just moved to the area, I didn't know where to take my car. A coupon for an oil change, tire rotation, and brake check as well as the great reviews on yelp helped me chose Advanced Automotive Repair.
My Honda was in dire need of an oil change. An orange wrench life and a slowly decreasing oil % life countdown had been going on for over a month. For my sanity, I decided to take it in once the wrench light could not be ignored. I called for a same day appointment and spoke with Christian who was very friendly. I was able to make an appointment on Saturday and though I arrived a little late, they were able to accommodate me.
When I went to the office, Christian remembered that I had called earlier in the day and told me that the oil change shouldn't take more than 45 minutes. Given that I had a horrible 2+ hour wait at a Honda dealership once for just an oil change, I was happy with the short wait time. Christian was friendly and helpful. He didn't make me feel bad when I sheepishly told him that the oil counter displayed -2% oil life (yes, negative). It is just a mileage counter and I did check the oil previously to make sure that the oil level was fine and wasn't too dirty.
The office has comfy seating, is clean, doesn't smell, and there is a tv and free wifi (though I did not end up using it). My car was ready and it was time to drive off!
I would put this as my best oil change experience. Definitely would go back again for my maintenance needs. The prices are reasonable and the people are nice!

If you can't tell from the rest of the reviews on Advanced Automotive Repair, these guys are STELLAR. So stellar that I will NEVER shop around again for automotive repair. These are the types of businesses that we need to support in order to keep good business going strong!
I lucked into finding them via Amazon Local and had the best experience ever from start to finish. Dan and Christian are amazingly kind, honest, and knowledgeable. My oil change was finished in 30 minutes and Dan gave me a great rundown on my brake inspection that left me feeling empowered. He helped me understand the mechanics of what was going on and gave me an honest rundown on options. Their only recommendation was that I get a light tuneup in the near future. Up to that point, I had had such a wonderful experience that I booked it right on the spot.
As long as I live in the bay area, Advance Automotive Repair, Dan, and Christian will be my go to guys. I can't even tell you how good it feels to find a great repair shop.

I found this place on Groupon. I am new to the area as of June and bought my Prius right when I moved here. I didn't know any car places, so I selected them because of their Yelp reviews and cheap Groupon. (even though he says at this location, it would be the same price unless you buy more than one.) I live right nearby and when my car battery died and needed to be "slow-charged" with some special machine for a few hours, they let me park it there for free for like 3 hours and didn't even charge me anything. Just said to bring it back next time I need an oil change or something... which I definitely will be doing!

Great experience taking my car in. I bought the Groupon deal for an inspection and oil change. My car had been making a noise and they checked everything out within hour while they did the oil change, as part of the deal. They fixed the noise for FREE, which was a belt that needed tweaking, and gave me a very comprehensive assessment of where my car was at. Christian was a really great guy to chat with while I waited and has very experienced credentials.
This place is a new shop with quite a few ex-dealership guys. They know cars and are fair. I will definitely take my car back in the future.

I highly recommend Advanced Auto. Dan and Christian are the perfect people to trust your car with. They're friendly and treat their customers well. They're straight forward with you about your car, the service that needs to be done, and when it needs to be done (no high pressure tactics, they tell me whether the service is a high priority issue to be done right now or if it can wait a year). They're also experts, especially if you own a Lexus. I took my '99 Lexus RX300 to them with an issue that had been troubling my car on and off for months and they handled it tremendously. Fixed it right up and several months later my car is still running beautifully.
Check them out the next time you need anything big or small done on your car and you won't be disappointed.

I agree with the others that all of these 5 star reviews are suspicious! That changed after I went there. The reviews are ALL right!
I bought a Groupon for an oil change and they are up the street from my house so I thought I'd give them a try. They were outstanding. They did the oil change quickly and I also asked for a diagnosis for my on again, off again A/C. The spent the whole afternoon figuring it out, making a suggestion on fixing it with no pressure to do it right away (it started working again...go figure). They did not charge me a thing.
They explain things well without making you feel clueless and offer all around solid customer service. This is my best experience EVER with a auto shop. I highly recommend them.

I needed to get a smog check to renew my car registration and was in a total time crunch. My co-worker highly recommended Advanced Automotive Repair. She said they were very professional, honest and the service was fast. She was definitely right! Still had half of my lunch hour to spare.

While waiting for traffic light, a nice passerby told me that my car brake lights didn't work (both left and right). I thought the bulbs were out so I checked my brake lights and realized my car only has one bulb on each side. So that meant it couldn't be the bulbs because I could still turn on the light if I use the alarm button. So maybe it's the fuse or the electronic circuit.
The next morning, I checked yelp and found Advanced Automotive Repair. Dan picked up the phone and he told me he'd take a quick look. I went there, I was expecting at least 1-2 hours of waiting. Dan checked the car for me and replaced the bulb in 10 minutes and voila now the brake works again.
Apparently even though there's only one bulb, there are 2 filaments inside it. So the filament for braking was busted.
I paid $10 for both bulbs, which is very reasonable because they cost like $3-$5 each at walmart. Dan didn't charge any service fee.
Cool and honest repair shop. I'll come back again for other services.

Okay, I can be a bit cynical about auto shops due to being burned a few times in the past. Yet, after finding this place in the S. Bay through Yelp, Yelpers, you have not steered me wrong! This place is a gem and Dan and Christian are saints. Not only did they do all the necessary repairs on my car, they held on to my car for over a week while I was out of the country! Now, THAT is customer service! Each time I was there, you can tell this place is hopping....Dan happened to be behind the desk the first time and he is quite funny, has this neighborly kind of attitude and treats you like he's known you forever. Christian really knows his stuff, is on top of orders, remembers faces and people by name, etc. He is incredibly professional and I think Dan hit the lottery with him as an employee! He remembered my face after meeting me briefly only once before! Then, he made a point to give me some pointers about some body work repairs after I requested a quote....He went above and beyond! The mechanic who first inspected my car (forgot his name, Asian - I believe, Korean)....even made a point to show me what I needed work on after I skeptically wondered if he was taking me for a ride since my car only had 68k miles on it (yes, my cyniciscm came into play). He patiently opened the hood, showed me the ribs or ridges on my belts and answered all my questions....I apologized for doubting him at first but told him as a woman, I'd been screwed before...and he said, "Nah, we're not that kind of place." Anyway, love this place and these guys. I would gladly take my car from now on even though I live in the city and it's quite a trek. I assure you, once you find these stellar auto guys, you'll never have to look again.

Wow...great service! I called at 9:00 to see if I could get an oil change for my truck. They were really busy, but Christian was wonderful and said that if I left my truck they would get to it as soon as possible. I was hoping it would be done before 1:00...they came through and had me ready by 10:45. I was also shocked that the oil change cost $20.00. Great service and affordable...this is my new place for getting any auto work done :)

I was incredibly suspicious of the 5 star review, but I have to say, it is very well deserved. I found this place via Yelp after an especially terrible experience with Sunnyvale VW. I love my VW so of course I wanted to take it somewhere where it would be babied. These guys were great. Fast. Honest. Fair. Super nice. When they couldn't get a part in, they were honest about it and didn't waste my time. They replaced my seatbelt which triggered an airbag warning. After my bad experience at Sunnyvale VW, I'd done a bit of internet research to see what might be wrong. These guys outlined the top 5 items and it was one of them. I can't say enough good things about them. *So* glad that I'd found these guys on Yelp!

Went there with a groupon for a oil change and checkup.
I had nothing to pay extra and they even included a tire rotation for free as I had asked how much more it would be as I need it.
Christian would is running the place is very friendly and also a mechanic so he was able to explain me everything and give me good tips on car maintenance.
Not pushy at all on having us spend more money with them, they also provide free wifi and water/sodas.
He told me the place was opened a year ago by former dealership mechanics.
I only went once, but will definitly come back. I asked their price for alignments: they have a special around $70. And they charge 20 for oil changes. Very affordable.

I have been looking for a new mechanic in the Mountain View area for a few years ever since our favorite mechanic retired. I have tried a few shops, but have not been thrilled with the service, until now. I found Advanced Automotive Repair through Groupon. I only had an oil change and vehicle inspection, but I was really impressed with the service. They didn't try to sell me any unnecessary service like other shops have tried to do. I think a lot of places see a woman coming and dollar signs start flashing before their eyes. That was not the case here. I think I have found my new repair shop!

I took my Honda CRV for new brakes a few weeks ago - waited a while to write the review to make sure everything was working well and no issues. My experience was mostly a problem of miscommunication.
I used a Groupon to pay in advance for a smog check. When I made an appointment the manager told me the soonest he could possibly fit me in was two weeks away.
Two weeks later I showed up for my appointment. The manager looked at my DMV paperwork and said he couldn't help me.
You probably know that there are two sorts of smog check stations: there are "test-only" stations where they only do smog checks, and there are other stations where they also do repairs if needed. My DMV paperwork specified that the test was to be done at a "Test-only or Gold Shield" station. And apparently Advanced Auto Repair is neither of those things. It would have helped if someone had asked about that when I made the appointment, but apparently all the Groupon calls had them swamped, and no one thought of it.
So I can't recommend them myself. If you do call for a smog test, make sure to check that your DMV paperwork doesn't say "test only."
Reply to Dan I's comment:
Dan, I already upgraded my review from 1 star to 2 and removed many of my more negative comments. I did this based on the email exchange that you and I had. I'm afraid that's the best I can do for you.
As I said in my review, our problems could have been avoided if the person who took my appointment had asked me a couple of questions to verify that the DMV would let me get tested at a station like yours. Since you know about those requirements, it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect you to do something like that. It saves you time, frees up appointments for people who will pay you, and avoids frustrating your customers.
I don't think taking our difference of opinion public makes either of us any happier, so I don't see any point in continuing.

Really nice people. I had an issue with my car. They took the time to check it out and explain to me what was wrong. They didn't want to do any repairs until I'd checked with the dealer otherwise it could've canceled my warranty. They didn't ask me to pay anything and were just really helpful. These guys are the best. We've been through nearly every mechanic in Mountain View in our over 20+ years of living here, and never have we had such service as we've had from here, Chris especially. He knows his stuff, they all do (my husband knows his engines, he's a mechanical engineer - just with no time of his own for repairs, and can vouch for them as well).
They've repaired two of our vehicles perfectly (to better than factory condition on our Dodge Dakota), and have called back to see how the truck is doing (she's doing beautifully!).
I absolutely cannot recommend Advanced Automotive repair enough - in fact I'm calling today for another couple of appointments for another couple of cars and an RV, because unlike with everyone else, our vehicles now work PERFECTLY thanks to them. And a big "THANK YOU" to Chris for being such an outstanding mechanic and for being so awesome to us. You won't find a better combination of customer service and mechanical acumen anywhere else.

They did recommend few jobs but did not try to pressurize to get them done with them. They were nice and replaced my break light bulbs at no additional cost. I took my Prius for an oil change and wanted them to take a look at the water pump that had started to slowly leak. Dan was very helpful and explained the condition of the water pump and how long it might last. No sales pressure, just plain facts. Two days later, I gave him a call as I was planning a long trip and wanted my car to be trouble free and Dan scheduled me on a Saturday and the job was done with Toyota OEM parts. Overall, the experience has hassle free, details explained very well and job done per specs. Dan and Christian are great mechanics. I am planning to take my prius to them for the next major service.

I went here based on Yelp reviews and am glad I did. I had something super easy- a broken brake light that I got a ticket for, but I going out of town for work and had only saturday to get it repaired which is typically a very busy day for auto repair. Not only did they bring my car in right away, it was back in less than 10 minutes and THEY DIDN'T CHARGE ME! Since it was so minor! They simply asked if I had other work that needed to be done that I consider them again... and I do indeed have a bumper trying to separate, a hole in my muffler, and a maintenance check all due so they will certainly get my business for all of that. The guy who helped me was so friendly and the service so prompt I would return even if charged as expected. They are great!

My company recently moved to the area. I looked for a new place to service my car. The Yelp ratings convinced me to try this place. I am so glad I did. It's the best experience I had with an auto shop. The owner whom I talked to on the phone to set up the appointment was very polite and helpful. He actually advised me to go with a lower priced option (but does the job just fine)! The shop is super clean and organized with comfortable chairs and strong wifi-signal. I camped out in the shop and did my work, didn't lose any time. The shop did everything they are supposed to do plus more. I also liked the fact that they under promised and over delivered - they said it would take about an hour to do the job, but it was done in 30 minutes. I am definitely coming back.

I came here because of Groupon to get an oil change and diagnostic and was very impressed with their customer service. Christian was very warm and friendly to all the customers and did his best to make sure we were all comfortable in the waiting room. I'm not a car guy and I didn't get any repairs done here, so I can't speak about the repair experience. Christian wasn't pushy though with the diagnostic, he told me what repairs I needed, but was also upfront and honest about how I could put off the repairs and explained what the risks were. I am going to save up for the repairs, but I'd feel very comfortable bringing it back here.

5+ stars. When I bought this oil change groupon last year, little did I know I was going to find THE best automotive repair shop I've ever dealt with.
For all three oil changes, appointments were incredibly easy to schedule over the phone. The owners are always pleasant and polite on the phone. Not once was I ever put on hold, forgotten, or rushed. During the oil changes, I sat in their very comfortable and CLEAN waiting room, and chatted with the friendly owners. Despite how busy the shop was during the day, Christian and Dan talked to all of their customers like we were old friends. They remembered names, made sure we were warm during the winter months, and offered us refreshments. On top of that, the oil change services were quick and reliable. Any additional suggestions on my car were explained very well - thoroughly and honestly. I knew right away that this shop wasn't trying to rip me off or sell me something I didn't need. Thats a first! The overall experience at Advanced Automotive was a pleasant surprise, compared to the "customer service" or lack thereof that I've received at other shops.
Also after being a customer for 7+ months, Christian noticed I still hadn't removed the duct tape that held up my passenger side window. I was honest with him and explained how I didn't mind the duct tape as i was tired of spending money on that old car. However with the ridiculous rain storms this winter, Christian showed a genuine concern for me and the wellbeing of my car, and offered to fix the window for a price that could not be beat! I was reluctant, but he assured me it would be a quick/inexpensive fix. It sure was. After 20 minutes and barely a dime out of my wallet, I drove away duct tape free. They even managed to remove all the gooo buildup from the glass. My car looked better than ever.
It is clear both Christian and Dan strive to keep their customers happy, while still providing the necessary automotive services to keep our cars running their best. Thank you Advanced Automotive. You have gained a new loyal customer.

I was looking for a new mechanic after moving away from the location of the place I had trusted for 10 years through 2 cars. (I had most recently been taking my current car to an Acura dealer for service.) I went to MPG after reading their stellar Yelp reviews, and I was so impressed with the professionalism, timeliness, and service quality on my car. They waited for me to arrive after work (a bit later than their usual open hours) and comp'ed a rental car while they kept my car overnight. When I picked up my car the next day, they informed me that the dealer had been doing my brakes incorrectly (i.e. the cheap way), and they fixed up my front rotors for free. I had also been told when replacing tires at Costco that I need an alignment immediately, but MPG said alignment is not needed at this time. They could have easily taken my money and I would have been none the wiser. I felt like they were honest and trustworthy, and I feel very comfortable bringing my car there again next time!

Great experience with Advanced Auto. Not only were they open on Saturday they were able to take in my Sienna for new brakes & rotors with no notice. They completed the job in less than half a day at a great price and were very knowledgeable in discussing different brake material types. As most auto repair shops do, they also provided a vehicle inspection and pointed out a number of upcoming service needs but made no attempt to up-sell or pressure me. Brakes are working great; I'll be stopping in here again.

I got introduced here via Groupon, and I don't have enough superlatives for Dan and his team. Dan is too good to be true in the current age, he is knowledgeable, courteous and generous (gave away free wipers) . I don't write too many review but I am compelled to write on this occasion, I have been to many repair shops in the bay area in the last 10 years but this place is exceptional. The waiting area is clean, comfortable and has Wifi/TV, bottled water while you wait for the service to be done. The workshop is huge and the team is knowledgeable, professional and honest. No up-selling or scare tactics as employed by other repair shops(mostly who advertise via Groupon for oil changes). lastly don't look anywhere else..Advanced Automotive Repair is the best repair shop you could ever imagine of.

I needed a smog certificate and called to see if they were a Test Only station (required for my car). They aren't, but Christian was VERY helpful, explaining the cost break down for the smog certificate vs the labor. Dan is a wonderful guy. He is knowledge and resourceful. When my Toyota Prius had a problem with airbag (SRS), he performed the diagnostics, called Toyato technicians, and found the cheapest solution for me. Went in for a scheduled oil-change first thing in the morning and was out in just under 20 minutes. Service was super-friendly and welcoming. The debrief provided for the condition of the car was super clear and detailed - something you don't normally get.
