Love this family owned business. I take my explorer here to get it's oil changed, at a significant savings over what the dealership would charge.
I usually wait and watch them as customers come and go - they always seem very straightforward and patient with everyone.

I have dealt with the wonderful people at Makestar Automotive a few times before in the past but today I stopped in to get a little advice concerning the purchase of a used car for my son, I wanted to know if they would do a safety check on the vehicle before I purchased it. They gave me sound advice and honest opinions concerning the vehicle and I know that I can trust them. It's a rare thing to find a small business owner that is willing to talk to a customer before they spend their money! I will without hesitation continue to recommend to my friends and neighbors that they go and patronize this business!

I'll definitely go to Makestar again! These guys are real mechanics and not just service guys trying to up-sale customers like the big dealerships do!
I finally took my car to Makestar Automotive a few days ago when my air conditioner fan quit blowing. I'd called Honda and they quoted me $250 and Makestar quoted me $150. I took it to them and Steve Sr. was awesome. He went picked up the part and had it installed and us on the road in an hour!
My first experience with them was 2 years ago when my key was stuck in my ignition. The Honda dealership quoted me $700 for parts and labor. I asked if they could just replace the ignition and they said no. I looked on Yelp and found Makestar and called them. They didn't do that kind of work but told me of a locksmith to take it to and they replaced my ignition and the whole thing cost $125.

Was looking at a used car at a lot nearby. Took it to these guys to check out before I pulled the plug. They did a extremely thorough inspection and found out the car had been in an accident that didn't show up on the carfax.
Very friendly staff and owners and very professional. Wish there were more autoshops like this.

I never leave reviews so this should tell you how important this is to me. The staff at Makestar are very nice people. Very courteous and kind. However service was horrible! Took forever with my repairs. Everyday we called for an update they would give me different reasons why the work wasn't done. They couldn't keep there stories straight. Car was in the shoo for almost two weeks and still wasn't even 80% satisfied with the work. I would not recommend this company unless it was BASIC service. They don't know how to wave the white flag they will double talk and take your money!

These guys are the best! I have been using them since they opened the shop and they have saved me lots of money. It's hard to find a mechanic you can trust but you can rest assured these guys are looking out for you. They are straight forward and will work to give you options. Only negative I might have is they are busy and sometimes the communication is slow. With that said they are busy for a reason and it is a minor flaw in an awesome shop!

Today my mom took her car in for front shocks. Makestar completed the job at a fraction of the cost. My mom prefers the dealer to do all of her work on her 2001 Accord. Bought new, maintained well, looks great. After getting her estimate she felt the savings justified not going to the dealer. We have both taken our Hondas here in the past. Her first time here they fixed her drivers side window. Perfect. My experience here was a turn signal light that stayed illuminated. They knew exactly what the issue was, pulled the fuse and ordered the part. Next day part was in they fixed and I was very pleased. These guys are honest, polite and don't gouge their customers. I highly recommend them for your Honda repairs. They took care of my mom and that is what counts to me

i came here based off of the reviews on the internet. I was nothing short of impressed. the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. after diagnosing the problem with out car they waved the initial inspection fee and gave us a breakdown of what they were going to fix and how much it would cost. if you need a honest mechanic this is the place to go.

If you're looking for an honest and respectable auto mechanics in the area, I highly recommend you check out makestar! Steve and his sons know how to take care of you! My boyfriend and his family have been coming here for a few years now and haven't had any issues. They are really good people and will not rip you off, unlike other places...like the dealership, like in my boyfriends case. They tried to sell him something that he didn't need, took it to Makestar and was told differently, said that wasn't necessary. It's really hard to find an honest and reliable auto mechanics nowadays, and this place makes you realize that there are still good ones out there!

Service doesn't get much better than this. Having never been their customer before, they diagnosed my engine code and car issue "OVER THE PHONE" and walked me through the repair myself. At that point I was sold.
Next time, I was at work and wife had issue with car. Just the battery, but they went easy on her.
Next time, AC compressor seized and rusted out. After they replaced it, they noticed why it failed. Pin hole leak in radiator aimed right at it. They patched radiator for free.
Finally, my transmission blew on the way to Vegas. I was able to call them to discuss the issue and not get snow-balled by the Vegas repair shop that I "HAD" to use.
This is a family business. They believe in the golden rule and great customer service. Not only did their service make me a customer for life, I have told countless others. "That is the way business should be ran!"

After being told by the dealer and another repair shop that my oil leak was due to the rear main seal, and a cost of $1600-$2000. I took it to MakeStar, turns out it was a sensor causing the leak. Fix for under $300. Honest mechanics with incredible customer service. Won't take my car anywhere else.

My sister recommended this place to me when I moved here, and now our family has three cars being serviced by Makestar. Steve and his sons have got it right: treat your customers right by providing honest and reliable service, and they will keep returning to you, with referrals too! All you want in your mechanic is for them to fix what's broken, do it as cheaply as possible, always be on time and most importantly, trust them.
Makestar does all of these things, every time all the time.
I bring both of my 4runners (92 SR5 and limited) to these guys and they are the most honest efficient mechanics I've ever come across.
They will tell you what you have to fix and what can wait and they are always looking to save you money when they can. And above all, you can trust these guys.
Having something break on your car sucks, but if it does, you should definitely bring it to Makestar. You will NEVER be disappointed.

Nice family works there, unfortunately very unprofessional and wondering who they have hired to work on cars. I took my car because the heater & A/C wasn't working, I took it when it was colder weather so when I got it back, the heater was working and I was satisfied, as soon as it warmed up, months later I took it back because realized the A/C still wasn't working. They said it would be 3 days since they had to order a part and wouldn't be too expensive probably about $65. This is my secondary car I don't use a lot so I was fine with leaving it there. When I called a week later they said they were having a hard time with the part but would now try another place and would call me back to let me know status, Time went by and my husband called his friend and ordered the part so I called Makestar about my car and before I could tell them my husband had ordered the part and I would have it in a couple days, the mechanic who answered and knew what car I was calling about quickly told me they didn't make the parts for the A/C anymore and they couldn't get it, after he finished I told him that they did make the part and I would drop it off in a couple of days...this along with NO follow up on there part ever and a few weeks later (yes my car was there for a month and $411 later) when I inquired about my car, they said, that car is still here? If I wasn't working in Orange County and had more time to find another place I would've done it and when it was finally done and asked them about lowering the price they wouldn't even consider it. The young men that work at the counter are nice enough...I could see why they will be at their family auto shop working there as long as they could becauase customer service at a professional establishment wouldn't put up with their lac k of customer service, again, don't get me wrong, they are nice but no one there seems to know whats going on & price isn't what you will be quoted initially. Bad experience-You've been warned.

The service we received from Makestar could not be better. We broke down on the 15 freeway on our way to a South Coast and had our Civic towed to Makestar after finding them on Yelp. Since the taxi service in the area was unreliable, Steve Jr. from Makestar drove us to the resort in his personal car and when I tried to tip him $20, he refused. They were honest, reliable and timely in getting our car repaired. Top notch!!! Ask for Steve Jr.

The first time I ever took my car to Makestar, my car wouldn't start at Camp Pendleton. Many guys were trying to help and figure out what was wrong but couldn't. The next morning was a Saturday, and my mom's friend had recommended Makestar. I had to have it towed, which ended up taking much longer than planned, Steve Jr waited like 2 HOURS after closing to help me with my car, never having seen me or my car! That was amazing in itself. But he diagnosed bad battery cable connection in about 2 seconds, and fixed it for me for free! That was about 3 years ago. Prior to going to Makestar, I went to Jiffy Lube and they had recommended a tune up for my car. It had about 65,000 miles on it. So I asked Steve Jr. was I due for a tuneup and he told me I didn't need on until 100,000 miles. He could have been dishonest with me and I never would have known the difference. Absolutely honest. His dad and his brother that I have met are the same way. I will never take my car anywhere else. They are VERY knowlegeable and honest. Can't get any better!
