I've used HDS several...several times. They do very good quality work, the guys there are very honest, fair prices and really take their time to explain to customers what work needs to be done. Best machine shop in San Diego County. I come all the way from down south . I would definitely give these guys a 10 star if I could. Thanks for always taking care of me !

Well, it's no big shocker to me that of the 6 not recommended reviews for this place, 5 of them are positive, 5 star reviews. I'm guessing they declined the advertising package that was no doubt offered to them. My review will probably be filtered out too, but here goes.
First off, don't pay any attention to the negative reviews, they are full of crap!
I've been using this shop for a few years now and have always been treated fairly. The work is top notch, pricing is reasonable, and they are always up front and call if anything out of the ordinary pops up. I will be using them to rebuild my Chevy 350 next month. I've recommended them to friends as well, all of whom have been very happy with the service HDS provides. Keep up the good work guys.
Hey Chris S, I don't see how your review rates one star. If you'd rather have gone to Pep Boys, then go ahead. By the way, they don't have a machine shop. If you were looking for Auto Zone, you didn't look very hard because they are all over the place.

This place is really the only reputable machine shop left in North County. I've been taking stuff here for five plus years, and they always do good work. Dave and Casey are also always helpful and have good advice. Their prices aren't the cheapest, but you almost always have to pay for quality work.
If you are looking for a good machine shop in North County, this is your best bet.

Charged me nearly $200 for a very basic bit of work that I was expecting to cost about $30. Part of this cost was something I didn't actually ask them to do.
Avoid these kind of "misunderstandings" by getting a price up front; they are not to be left to work on trust and don't even bother to make a call to confirm costs when they are heading towards the extraordinary.

This past Saturday I was in a pinch. Camping World was suppose to press fit bearings into my trailer hubs, but after 3 days left me high and dry. I was selling the trailer that day to a guy who had driven all the way from Sacramento to get it. I was recommended to HDS from Pep Boys. Went over there and they said they could get the job done for me within three hours, but hustled and got it done within 90 minutes, because they knew that I was in a jam. Here's the better part, they charged me less then half of what Camping World was asking.
These guys were nice and accommodating. Honestly, if I have a need for any type of work that they do in the future, I will take all of my business to HDS. Thanks guys, you saved the day for me!

My patronage here ended before it began... Called to inquire about some machine work. The guy who answered the phone was so annoyed and sounded so put off by my phone call. I can only think the inconvenience of my phone call (how dare I) interrupted his morning donut and coffee.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression !!

Just moved to the area from Florida and was looking for an auto zone type place in my area and came across this place. It was decent and the staff helpful. I would much rather go to pep boys or the machine shop in vista

great place for hard to find parts...Doug and Jon are excellent when it comes to a rare car or truck. part. great guys too, they actually give a crap about what they do...would go there again and again for the right part the first time..quality machine work too, I have had my heads done there with zero problems.

The worst machine shop i know!! Ruined my hard to find 351C block and charged me $225 for labor anyway. I guess "sorry, these things happen" makes it all better.
